Day 1: “A Feng Shui Class”

My very first class of Scientific English  at university.. Well to be honest, at first I didn't want to give this class because I felt that it would be useless cause really at my school all classes were given in English, this means that I already gave biology in English...However, I was reaalllyy surprised when the teacher arrived to class because first it was obvious that he wasn't from Panama but then when he started speaking, I immediately noticed he had a British accent (and I loooooove the British accent and also love England). Then the professor arrived full of energy and very positive with a contagious excitement making me realize that well this might not go as I thought it would. So, something that he made us clear is that he hates how chairs are organized, he likes it in a more Feng shui style and so we arranged them in groups.Now with the class already organized, he started the class by telling us that if you didn't know English, you shouldn't stay in this class because you are not going to pass it.So the people with an okay level in English stayed and the others left preferring to take it later on...Later the professor told us that to achieve a healthy classroom, some rules had to be followed and made a type of list that included:

1.     Paying attention

2.     Feng shui

3.     Proper posture

4.     Discussion of important issues

5.     Respect

6.     Positive attitude

7.     Support each other  

8.     Classroom never in lines

9.     Social media therapy

10.  Nutritional breaks (12:30-12:45)

11.  Correct social interaction

12.  No four letters (BAD word in English) 

We also talked about some of the activities during this subject and how he would be grading, something like this:

Final project: 30% (EXAM)

Project/portafolio: 30%

Presentation: 20%

Parcial Exam: 20%

The most fun part of the class is that we united in groups and did a type of logo, ours was named Ying and Yang nutrition . And we drew a pizza in the evil side of the good and an apple in the good inside the evil to represent how nutrition and life in general is all about balance, everything has evil or goodness in it depending on how you use it.Then each one of us spoke about passions and hobbies in general.It was kind of nice because it helped me get to know some of my classmate a bit more. 

 Last but not least, we talked about a new term thats been rising in our society known as fat shaming and we concluded through the different meanings found that there are two definitions of fat shaming.

A term made by obese people to avoid the responsibility to actually take proper care of their body and instead victimize themself by pretending they're discriminated like an ethnic group.

The action or practice of humiliating someone judged to be fat or overweight by making mocking or critical comments about their size.

 Key learning points:

·      I learned a new quote that I liked based in the 5Gs.

·      I also learned about my classmate’s passion and a new term known as fat shaming.

·      I learned about how United Kingdom is composed and what countries are part of Great Britain and what countries are separate.
