My heart! Firstly, the characterizations are spot-on! Shouto's straightforwardness and honesty shine through, emphasizing his typical stoicism and difficulty expressing emotions. Hints of his feelings appear through subtle actions like adjusting his hair or lingering gazes on the reader. Small but meaningful gestures, like bringing a hot drink after she's hungover or assisting with a dress strap, beautifully showcase his care. Shouto's contradictory nature is well-balanced, blending aloofness with surprising intimacy. His usual emotional restraint magnifies the impact of his New Year's Eve outburst, revealing a profound capacity for deep emotions beneath his reserved exterior.
Secondly, the writing skillfully captures the reader's confusion, longing, and heartbreak. It adeptly portrays the tension between the reader's emotions for Shouto and their friendship. The New Year's Eve scene is incredibly well-crafted, bringing out the intensity of emotions and the bittersweetness of the moment. Descriptions, like Shouto's mismatched socks and the cold stone railing, add a touch of realism and intimacy to the party and balcony scenes. The narrative unfolds with honest and raw emotions, reaching a climax in the final scene that leaves me with a profound sense of both betrayal and uncertainty about the future. There's potential for more angst, and while I can see the appeal of it remaining a stand-alone, there's also a compelling case for expanding on this captivating story.
Overall, this fic is well-written and emotionally engaging, showcasing an expert portrayal of complex emotions. For fans of emotional, angsty fics, consider this a must-read.
I loved these line so much, I can’t even put it into words:
You’ve never looked a little too long at the skin of his abdomen that peeks out when he takes off a sweater and his shirt rides up. Never woken up before him after falling asleep next to each other, and just admire him.
Shouto swallowed hard when you told him he was heartbreakingly pretty, his adam’s apple bobbing as he glanced around your face.  Sober you apologized.
shouto todoroki x reader || wc: 2k
cw: no pronouns for reader but in a dress, 1 mention of drugs (a joint), alcohol, everyone’s a little tipsy, sfw
pls no minors or ageless blogs
Tumblr media
You’ve kissed Shouto, once.
If anyone asked, you would say no. That they’re wrong, he’s been one of your closest friends for forever. You’ve never thought about him like that when your other friends want to hear something “hot,” oh my god, he’s your friend.
You’ve never looked a little too long at the skin of his abdomen that peeks out when he takes off a sweater and his shirt rides up. Never woken up before him after falling asleep next to each other, and just admire him.
(You’ve gotten used to not looking at his face too much. He once adjusted his hair over his left eye when you were smoking together and you were staring at him. You asked him what was wrong and he asked if he had anything on his face as he took the joint from your hand. Shouto swallowed hard when you told him he was heartbreakingly pretty, his adam’s apple bobbing as he glanced around your face.
Sober you apologized.
Shouto still angles himself in his interviews, right side facing the cameras.)
Never known the feeling of his chest to yours as you breathe heavy breaths into each other’s mouths.
–it was New Year’s Eve.

no but think about what the new years art means for shouto’s hero career lmao
this dude will do anything you ask him?? pro hero meet and greets start having to release specifications for what kind of props you can bring to ask a hero to pose with. shouto’s pr team has to issue him a little carrying card with hand signals he is absolutely not allowed to do under any circumstances. twitter is overrun with extensive threads that have titles like “every time todoroki shouto had to check his no no card” and “todoroki shouto: ceo of accidental fan service”

The Soulmate Theory - Todoroki Shouto x Reader
I welcome you to my probably last-ever Soulmate fic. As much as I love reading this trope, it's gotten harder and harder to write. I hope you like it. This is for @shoulmate
Trope: You share your Soulmate's pain.
Tumblr media
Soulmates used to be a thing.
A long, long time ago, way before the first ever Quirk was documented, Soulmate bonds were just as common as Quirks are nowadays.
Your grandmother used to be fascinated by it, told you stories about her grandmother who was convinced she shared a soulmate bond even though not one case had been documented in the last hundred years before her.
It’s only natural, you’d say, that you didn’t realize you had one. After all, why would you think that?
-
Pain has always been part of your life.
Your wrists hurt and your legs hurt and your back hurts and your stomach hurts… all the time. The doctors cannot find anything, some even accuse you of pretending for attention. You’d gladly trade all that attention against a pain-free day.
Your Quirk’s Telekinesis and you’re so glad about it, because how else would you be able to move that pen and write that notes when your hands hurt like this?
You’re getting better at it too, threading a needle or picking up the last grain of rice with your thoughts alone.
-
A dull ache has settled behind your left eye after what has been the most intense pain flare you’ve ever had. All you want to do is rest.
But your mind is reeling, craving an outlet for all the thoughts inside your head.
Your restless eyes find some fabric in the corner of the room. Soon enough a few needles are working their magic, a creation coming to life before your eyes.
You might not be able to walk around most days, but at least you can still create outfits you’d love to flaunt in.
-
Years later
-
“Can you take over my student?” Kameko asks, “He wants a completely new costume.”
“What year?”
“First year. And his old one wasn’t even destroyed.”
“So? Maybe he found something out about himself.”
She huffs. “Please? I still have to finish Amajiki’s new design and you know how anxious he gets.”
“Yeah, no problem. Can you take another first year off my plate then? His name is Midoriya and he ripped it in half, it seems.”
“Oh yeah, give it to me.”
Someone clears their throat. You look up from your work into a set of heterochromatic eyes, one blue, one grey.
“Yes?” You ask. “How can I help you?”
“I’m here for my new Costume.”
“Are you Midoriya?” You point at the green fabric on your desk, or rather what’s left of the costume.”
“No, I’m Todoroki Shouto.”
“Ah,” Kameko doesn’t even look guilty at being caught. “You’re with her then. Do you need the think tank?” She points at the cubicle where you can go and plan outfits.
Todoroki looks like he isn’t quite sure, so you carefully slide off your chair and shuffle over.
“Come, come,” you wave at him, “It’s never wrong to brainstorm.”
“Are you hurt?” He asks and has the decency not to point at how you clearly favor your left leg.
“Not more than usual,” you try to joke and though he looks a little confused, he doesn’t ask more questions.
.
Todoroki is a quiet individual. He’s not shy, that you perceive immediately, but he makes sure to check if he’s allowed to speak before he opens his mouth.
He’s also insanely pretty, the red, rough skin over his left eye giving him even more appeal. But he’s also one year younger than you, so you keep those thoughts locked away in the back of your head.
“If you want to change the design, we can do that, no problem.” You remind him when you’ve finally found something he seems almost happy with.
“I don’t want to cause you more work.”
“If you don’t cause me any work I’d have nothing to do,” you joke and he looks at you quietly for a while. You wonder if he’s ruminating over your joke or waiting for you to talk on and sadly, you’re more than likely to ramble in a confusing silence.
You gesture, somehow now talking about the importance of fresh orange juice for the human body, a topic you didn’t even know you could talk about beforehand when your hand connects harshly with the door behind you. Your wrist catches the doorknob and the pain is immediate, sharp and cool, like you’d imagine being stabbed with an icicle would feel like.
Todoroki hisses behind you and you’d compliment him on the empathy if it wouldn’t hurt like that.
When you turn, hand pressed against your chest, he’s cradling his own hand before dropping it. “Musclespasm,” he explains quietly, offering you a hand that is covered in ice. “Do you want me to cool it? It helps.”
-
“I’d like to add some more details to my costume,” Todoroki approaches you with a Bento Box in hand.
You nod, unable to speak for a moment as you focus your Quirk on a particularly tough seam.
“No problem, as I said. What’s it about?”
“Could we use the think tank?”
You turn to check but it’s clearly occupied.
“Sadly not. Is it more complicated then?” You nod at the Bento Box. “Do you think it will keep us occupied during lunch break?”
“No, this is…” Todoroki hesitates for a second before holding it out to you. “It’s just something I wanted to give you. My sister made these.”
You open it with curious fingers to reveal twelve perfectly shaped cookies.
“That’s lovely, but why me?”
His cheeks turn pink and his lips curl into an adorable pout before he eventually talks.
“I mentioned that I was pleased with the changes and she told me to say thank you.”
“Aww,” you coo. “Your older sister then?”
“Yes,” the pout exaggerates, “I would have said thank you without her intervening.”
“Of course you’d have.” - “But my cookies didn’t turn out good.”
You both speak at the same time, or rather you accidentally interrupted him and he still talked on.
You stare at him now, mouth agape as you process his words.
“You made cookies for me?”
“Yes,” Todoroki nods, “I wanted to say thank you.”
“It’s my job.”
“I still want to say thank you.”
“Next time,” you joke, not quite realizing what you’re saying until it has left your lips and your brain has caught on, “just bring me the Cookies you made. It’s the thought that counts.”
He stares at you with wide eyes for what feels like eternity before a soft pink blush blooms on his cheeks.
You hide your own face in the box of Cookies, hope that he won’t hear the thunderous beating of your heart over the noise of you eating one.
They’re delicious. Of course they are.
-
You don’t know how or when or even why, but clearly, there’s a friendship growing between you and Todoroki Shouto. He’s stopped claiming he’s only dropping in for new additions to his costumes and in turn you’ve tried quite a few of his food creations, each one of them worse than the last.
But he’s cute and honest and real about it and you couldn’t do better if you tried anyway.
Your pain, however, doesn’t stop just because you’ve found work you enjoy or friends to spend your time with.
There are days where you cannot get out of bed. Days where strong painkillers allow you to get to school only for everything to go past you because those painkillers leave you loopy and tired, falling asleep over some costume in the early afternoon hours.
At least you’re not in the Hero Course, you think on the worst days, because you’ve seen the bruises Training leaves on Shouto’s arms and legs.
That’s before you realize that Training is the least of all his problems.
-
Third Year
“How are you?” You ask, because what else do you ask your Crush Slash Good Friend you haven’t seen in months?
Shouto’s got new scars, he’s grown, and he’s fought in a war while you were bedridden from pain, your mother scared out of her depths that you’d die in an attack, unable to move.
But you survived and so did he and if you can believe what you’ve heard on the news, he’s found out some things about his family too.
“Tired,” he admits, dragging a hand through his hair, “I missed you.”
You wonder how hard it was for him to admit that.
“Think tank?” You ask, slipping off your chair when he nods.
The last few days have been painless and even though you’re anxious about what’s to come after that, you can’t help but enjoy it.
When the door closes after him, you realize just how small that cubicle really is.
Or maybe it’s just that Shouto doesn’t step away like he used to do, staying so close to you that you could count every single one of his long lashes if you wanted to.
“Can I hug you?” He asks and you nod, unable to say anything, even less when he pulls you in.
He’s tall and strong, cool on one side and warm on the other and your face nuzzles into his neck like it was meant to be like that anyway.
You don’t speak for a while, just hold each other in the semi-privacy this room provides.
“I want to take care of you,” Shouto whispers at some point. “Can I?”
Somehow it doesn’t surprise anyone that you two end up dating.
-
Your third year is almost painless.
Sure, there are frequent days where you’re sore for no reason whatsoever, but that is nothing against the blinding pain that had tied you to a bed for weeks before.
Sometimes, Shouto pouts about that. He thinks it’s his job as your boyfriend to look after you and what good is he for if you don’t need looking after?
His friends tell you that he’s less reckless now - as if he’d ever been - making sure to keep himself safe because you need him.
You’ve met his sister, one of his older brothers and his mother, all of them nice, though maybe a bit distanced.
Emotional vulnerability doesn’t seem to come easy to them.
Shouto, however, likes to talk about his feelings in depth. And he wants to know how you’re feeling too, listening with wide eyes as you explain.
Should it be weird that you’re dating someone younger than you? If so, you’re doing it wrong.
-
The first(?) hint
“Do we need anything from the store?” You ask, phone crammed between your ear and shoulder as you grab your stuff from the passenger seat.
“I was going to get the groceries,” Shouto huffs on the other side of the call and you can see it, how he pouts at the thought that you’re doing it instead of him.
“I was already on my way. You can do the laundry.”
“I hate doing the laundry,” he groans and you giggle. “I know. I’m going to help you with it, don’t worry.”
“I could cook,” he offers and you giggle again, opening the door to step out. “As much as I love you, Shouto, I don’t love your cooking.”
“Fine,” he says, sounding exactly like a child that didn’t get its way, “But we do face-masks while doing the laundry.”
“Of course. I’ll call you back later, okay? I need both hands for shopping.”
“Sure. I’ll buy you more headphones in the meantime.”
There are a few more teasing remarks, a last “I love you” and then you shove your phone back in your purse and turn to where you think the shopping carts are located.
You don’t see the step in front of you before it’s too late and then you’re tumbling through the air. It happens slowly and then all at once and you’re not really sure what hurt first and what hurts the most.
For a moment you’re just lying there, face down on the pavement, trying not to puke, collecting your thoughts as if they scattered on your floor just like your open purse.
Your phone starts ringing and that seems the most manageable task so you pick it up from right in front of you and press it against your ear.
“Yes?” You ask.
“Love, are you okay?” Shouto sounds worried.
“No, I just tripped and fell,” you pick your head up from the asphalt and squint at your stuff in front of you, “in the middle of the parking lot.”
“Just after you hung up I felt a lot of pain and I just… I knew it was you.”
-
It keeps happening after that.
It doesn’t help that you’re clumsy, but maybe that’s for the best now, as you try and figure out this weird coincidence.
If you hurt yourself, Shouto feels the pain.
If Shouto hurts himself, you feel the pain.
It’s only after he almost gets buried by a collapsing building that you actually tell a Doctor. Or rather Midoriya unloads all the Data he has collected on the poor, unassuming Recovery Girl.
The most likely answer, as strange as it might sound, is the Soulmate Theory.
“Since you’re the first documented case in hundreds of years we don’t have anything to prove this theory. But I’m quite positive that more cases will follow.”
You blink back at her, not quite understanding. Shouto’s left hand, one of the few places of his that are not covered in bandages, squeezes yours.
“You know what that means, right?” He asks.
“Yeah. We’re most definitely never going to break up.”
His eyes widen in a way you’ve grown familiar with. No matter how long you’ve been dating, you still seem to be able to surprise him.
“No,” he presses out weakly, “I meant… That all the pain you went through as a child and teenager, that was me. It’s my fault.”
You lean down to press a kiss to the little spot above his eyebrows that has come away unscathed.
“I’m not saying it was nice, but if I could take at least a little bit of the pain you went through, I’d say it was worth it.”
-
You’re pretty sure Shouto would disagree, but in your eyes Soulmates are not quite as fancy as they’re made out to be.
After all, you found him on your own, didn’t you?

🍉 ─ SPONSOR A WIP FOR GAZA
Hi friends!! I don't know how this will go but I wanted to participate and help contribute a little bit more to the fundraising efforts for Gaza set up by ficsforgaza. I’m taking things slower on the writing front this year so I only have a few to list, some longer than others. Even so, I hope some appeal to you and encourage you to give a donation.
Tumblr media
RATE: $1 per 100 words
INSTRUCTIONS: donate to a vetted fundraiser of your choosing, take a screenshot of the donation confirmation (make sure your private information is censored) and send it to me along with the title of whatever WIP you're sponsoring!
Here’s an example:
hi monty! here's proof of my donation to child mohammed and family's gofundme. I'd like this to go toward the wip 'name your courage' :) ty!! [screenshot.png showing evidence of donation states that $5 was given, therefore 500 words will be written for the wip titled 'name your courage']
Upon receiving your ask (I won't be publishing them) I will amend the list below and prioritise progressing that WIP as well as keeping this post updated weekly. Just for clarity: I’ll be submitting redacted evidence I receive to @ficsforgaza to try and ensure that people are not sending those same screenshots to different writers.
Tumblr media
TO AVOID BEING OVERWHELMED I HAVE MADE A DONATION WC GOAL FOR EACH WIP❗️Just to be clear—donations go towards progressing a WIP. The sole purpose of this is to encourage donations and spread awareness. Every little bit helps. Even if a fic doesn’t get completed right away I still appreciate your participation and promise to fulfil the WC goals.

Tumblr media
↳ A MANY SPLENDORED THING — KUROO TETSURO #: GN AFAB reader, divorcee kuroo, best friends to lovers, heavy mutual pining, hurt/comfort, eventual smut + romance
you wonder, not for the first time, why tetsuro could never see what was right in front of him. it was as though the compass of his sharp intuition reversed polarity when you were in the vicinity. you’ve been in love with him since you were sixteen and he’s the one person that never noticed.
current wc: 13,962/20,000+ donated (goal) wc: 5,000/5,000 🎊 ☑️

Tumblr media
↳ EMERGENCY CONTACT — AIZAWA SHOUTA #: GN reader, friends to lovers, fluff + humour, sexual tension, reader is an underground hero, adopted eri, getting together

Tumblr media
↳ THE STAG — OKKOTSU YUUTA [RETURNING WIP!] #: AFAB reader, courtesan au (no curses), courtesan yuuta, reader is a tailor, falling in (forbidden) love, fluff + angst, love letters

Tired Eyes
Tumblr media
((Banner by me! I don't own Horikoshi's work/characters))
Pairing: Todoroki x reader (UAteacher!reader x Pro-Hero Shoto)
Rating: T+ (smol insinuated spice between lovers)
Words: 2k
Warnings: GN!reader, Behold the FLUFF, est. relationship, stress relief, Shoto is a good partner, just comfort hours, yall, tender kissing, *light suggestive pining* Shouto is a petname king
Summary:
An overworked hero and his under-rested lover are both due for a vacation. You are certainly dreaming of such a time where you can get away, and pose the idea one night when the dreams become just a bit too real and appealing to all your senses to ignore.
A/N: Ok, I super love writing Shoto now. Y'all's love of my first fic convinced me... more love for our half-and-half beau awaits~
For my My Hero Academia Masterlist, check it out here!
Read on Ao3
Night sky. No clouds in sight. There is only a sky of deepest blue, a sea of deepest green, and sparkling gems of reflected starlight in between. Music rises from the sandy beach band beneath you, but out of sight from the serenity of this island paradise.
There’s light, despite the lateness of the hour. Streams from the moon above you: so brightly that it casts shadows through those teetering, cascading palms over the entire balcony.
Just slightly too cold, this wind. A perfect midnight breeze, but you’re hardly chilly. There’s a perfect set of arms holding you around the waist– paired by a warm cheek pressed against your right side: his left.
You don’t get views like this living in such a thriving city. Those skylines hold their own beauty, but it’s hardly a candle to this unspoiled beach. Distant rolls of waves crashing at low tide act as the perfect background noise. Your better half is humming the familiar song that’s playing downstairs there by your ear; a relaxed state emanating from him that you rarely see–
Todoroki slips into your study, on the hunt for where his darling lover could be. Catching you catnapping at your desk, he runs a hand through your hair to test how deeply you sleep.
‘What’s gotten into you, huh? You never dance!’
‘We’re on island time, aren’t we? What’s the saying.. ‘there’s a first time for everything’.’
‘Breaking news: Japan’s number four hero, SHOTO, dancing his life away with the love of his life’- that’ll make headlines! I gotta make a call-’
‘They’ll never believe you…’
‘Where’s my phone- I gotta get proof-OOPHM!’
‘Stop talking. Come dance~’
A cool hand swipes a finger up your neck, another test.
Kisses outline your cheek in a curve, coupled by dreamy, airy hums. Lips that sear with their ‘want’ of you, laden with heat and obsessed with covering you in their wake. Making you weak for someone who proves his strength with utter softness– and his power with gentleness.
The man atop you -who worships you- has held your hand for years, but your heart for much longer. Friendship turned to something dearer once you both tested the waters together, which led to seeking out new shores in whatever spare time you could afford– time away being a precious treasure. You’re set on committing these kisses to memory, making the most of this respite that resets his busy mind and serious outlook.
He’s making sure you let go of every ounce of worry, now that he’s feeling better. Making you sing his praises without a care for who might hear over the billow and sway of hala trees.
Making you his.
‘M’love… My love….’
‘-My love?”
You stir suddenly and wake like nothing’s happened. That work email draft still sits idle on your browser and as you turn, the discovery that your boyfriend’s returned from the streets of Esuha comes to life as well.
You breeze past your bleary-eyed stare at the man who was just carrying you to bed, distracting you with his mouth, looking fondly up at you unbound by responsibility…- you were sure it was real, just moments ago..
“Oh Sho– sorry about that, I was just um– heh.."
A teasing eye studies your masking. "Long day?"
A curriculum planning session with Aizawa and Cementoss you’d thought was wrapped up yesterday continued in the main office today. Both heroes had flanked your desk with recommendations for your third year students, as well as the intern assignments for the first years. There also lay plenty of midterm e-filing on the administrative end you’ve been putting off, in favor of helping each of the department heads with their assignments so as to not stop their momentum.
Yet where has that left you? Stretched too thinly, as usual.
Not only has the Principal wagged a cautious tail at you for this level of stacked taskload, but in your carrying it home, you’ve received disapproving looks from your life partner as well.
Luckily, Todoroki appears more docile than normal– likely the result of his own weariness coming into play and softening his reaction to finding you this way yet again.
Long day yesterday. Long day today, and a long day most likely to face you tomorrow.
"Yeah.. they do tend that way now.”
"You haven't touched your tea, it's cold." He eyes the way the cup beside you doesn’t steam anymore, with a raised brow. All you can do is rub your eyes and stretch for a little added cuteness.
"I like cold tea- just add a little lemon and some ice~"
While charming, it sadly does little to sway your Pro-Hero.
"You're working too late again, sweetheart. We talked about this."
"Look, it was my bad forgetting the deadline. I got carried away with other stuff,” you explain your shortcomings, “But I don't want to be more stressed out later; I just… thought I could tackle it now?..."
“You ‘tackle’ too much during the day. Surely something can be left for tomorrow?”
“There is plenty for tomorrow– but there’s still some tonight.”
Without much expression, Todoroki sinks from his authoritative stance. A blur of mussed red and white hair knelt beside you to allegedly listen… only to swivel your chair for you, and hold his hands out to you.
You reached out, knowing you needed one of his award-winning hugs. Anything to settle the jolt of waking from such a pleasant dream.
…only Todoroki doesn’t offer you such a solace. Instead he pulls you up the rest of the way, and tosses you up over the shoulder and carries you by your pinned thighs. Paying no mind to your exclamations along the way to the bedroom,  you can’t even look back at him from this angle he carries you in .
"Sh-Shoto! C'mon, I can do this! I just need another hour or two - like two-and-a-half, tops."
He set you down on your feet by the bed, though you plop down onto the edge under his intensive -yet loving- stare. Todoroki lightly bridges over you, a hand atop each thigh to keep close to you.
"After… you take a shower, change out of these clothes, and eat something, then we can discuss your work schedule. But I won't let you run yourself into the ground."
He cupped your face and tenderly ran both hands down your hair and back to cup your entire face. His hands finding their comfortable home on your cheeks, you melt at the soothing touch of Todoroki’s thumbs brushing tender skin that’s graced by your shut lashes- where some semi-dark puffiness lies from interrupted rest.
"You have tired eyes, love.” your sweetheart whispers to you, “You're not listening to your body. Let's take care of it."
It’s the same argument you’ve coached him through sometimes. Though as a Pro-Hero, he’s taken the hint of self-care that you selectively ignore when it’s turned to you.
You sighed, but opened up to a well-meaning gaze; Shoto really was the most beautiful human you’d ever seen.
"Okay, honey. You win."
He smiled- wrenching your heart again, “I'll warm up our dinner."
“What do we even have?” you fight for the memory of what’s in the fridge.
“Don’t worry about that,” Todoroki settles you with a kiss on your forehead, “I’ve taken care of all of it.”
You hop in and out of the shower in record time and dress down in a curated set of pajamas, courtesy of Todoroki himself. Prepped and pre-heated in the towel warmer right beside the shower door, the gesture was just one of the many expressions of his love for you.
He timed his reentry perfectly, changed into lounge clothes as well and armed with a small tray complete with an assortment of some of your favorite poppables you can make a meal out of: crisp veggies, some rice balls, a touch of fruit for sweetness– all expertly topped with a green onion finish.
It’s a taste of something you’d maybe find on vacation. Even the way Todoroki plates this late-night snack meant to share… you’re spoiled by the presentation, without any special occasion sparking it at all. He makes ordinary Tuesdays feel like more. Sunday evening scaries aren’t something to dread anymore. Small moments in the daily -that hearken to the indulgent moments you work hard for- make the biggest difference in your weekly grind.
“You’re not off the patrol rotation around Golden Week, are you?” you ask wistfully, armed with a lightly sauced onigiri.
Todoroki stills from putting away some clothes; midthought, in puzzling fashion.
“Actually, I think so,” he gives a soft little smirk that’s more sleepy than pleased. “Iida and I worked out that he wanted some family time off the week after, so I offered to team up our agencies for that month to ensure smooth coverage while we’re both gone. The school is closed too, right?”
It’s perfect timing, you think. How you want to make your dreams a reality…
“We are. Got me thinking…”
Settling your finished tray aside to join you, Todoroki listens in.
“D’you think maybe if I get back in your good graces -not doing so much after-hours work-” you make a few bats of the eye to him, “...maybe we could get away for a bit? Take a little holiday?”
“A trip?” Todoroki asks.
You hum your request, hoping he’ll be open to it.
It’s hardly a fight; by the way his brows lift in amusement, it’s only obvious he’s never been asked about such a thing before, but loves the idea.
“Where did you have in mind, darling?”
Only the subject of your dreams: a beach hidden from the rest of the world, where cell reception is next to none (you pray) and where good food and good music are all you need to focus on while you spoil each other rotten with a selfish streak of alone time.
You shouldn’t feel so possessive of him -he’s a Pro-Hero who’s responsible for keeping this corner of the world safe… but you have to say, the idea of taking a break at his side has been seeping into your dreams long before tonight.
You can’t stay silent on it anymore.
“Somewhere there’s water.. And at least a six hour time difference. And a comfy bed.. N’ you.”
An amused huff leaves his nose again, transfixed on how soft your face looks at this moment.
“Big end of the bargain you’d have to hold up,” Todoroki teases, his voice worn by a day on duty and tenderized to sleepy perfection, “I know you can’t always escape it.. Can you promise no more after 9PM? Would that be fair?”
You accept the challenge, “That’s a good window. I could do that.”
Todoroki trails a warmed hand up your arm to ultimately cup your cheek.
“Promise no more lukewarm tea?”
“Is that so bad an offense to you?”
“Nearly unforgivable. Grounds for disowning, if you’re Nana Yaoyorozu.”
You giggle in your delirium, “Well, certainly can’t have that! No more, pinky promise.”
Leaning in, Todoroki seeks out a last condition,
“Promise I get my kisses in the doorway again?”
“Missed them tonight, huh?” you sigh guiltily.
Todoroki teased your partly open mouth, “Terribly.”
Nudging his nose, you beam at your sweetest reason to get up in the morning,
“I promise, my prince. Whatever you want. So please, can we?”
Matching the nuzzle and never one to refuse your wants or needs, Torodoki dives back in to kiss you,
“How can I say ‘no’ to my angel. Of course we can. A little break in paradise might just be what we need~”
You know no one works as hard as he does. Carrying the legacy of Endeavor is a hefty enough charge, forget that he’s set to forge his own path past what the reputation has already afforded him. Shoto has become a household name to many; though yours is where he is most content to come rest his head and heart.
With the dangling treat of a getaway with him on your horizon, you set the intention to finish your work after this aside for the morning, entirely. Shoto has already made his plea to hold you for the rest of the night, and you could never refuse his tender asks. When he treats you like royalty, how could you not in return?
With your shared kisses and brainstorming of vacation destinations now on the mind, you’re hardly focused on student affairs; you have dreams to fulfill.

porcelain, the afterword:
author's corner/first thoughts.
first and foremost: upon rereading, a scene in this fic holds a lot of similarities to one from dust, diamonds on ao3 by maokitty. (the jealousy scene w the husband where the wall crumbles) especially with the dialogue. i was definitely taking inspiration from that fic while writing the scene, and wanted to make a note of it here. go read it even if ur not into aot pls bc it’s actually life-changing !! i beat my sunflower record btw this was 25k ish words written in less than 20 total writing hours. spread over 1.5 days total. also i think i fucked up the pacing a lot from what id originally planed buuut at least its over. dobby is finally free!!! anyways. the original intent for this fic was a discussion on body imagery, to anyone who has ever struggled with the unrealistic standards of social media and/or felt lesser than themselves because they were not beautiful in a 'typical' manner. but then it ballooned into a monster of its own bc i was like how can i make this hurt. i took my inspiration from porcelain + kintsugi vases... like how can i break this reader before i put her back together. i think that i'd like to touch upon similar topics again one day. as a natural extension of my style and the way i write that 'fits' the childhood theme of this collection, i don't believe i handled these topics the best i could've: a lot of them are simplified to a point that, looking back, makes me go 'eugh' a bit because there's so much depth there that i had to like, tamp down upon as a result of my own inexperience. parts of it were likely believable, and parts of it likely weren't - whether because of my youth, or because i was afraid of approaching these topics from the 'wrong' angle. either way, i hope to be able to grow as a writer to the point that i can tackle these themes again to a point where i myself can be sufficiently pleased with the depth i've put into it. that is all. if you've read up to here, thank you. i'm not really expecting this one to do nearly as well as sunflowers - the content is heavier, it's not nearly as light, and shouto is just less of a popular character overall. but this is very likely my magnum opus so far in terms of how much thought has been put into the work, so it means a lot to me even if you do not interact, and simply read up til this point. thank you. your support truly means a lot. will also update again as i think of things
unwritten scenes, headcanons, thought process
another angst scene. at the todoroki forgiveness dinner table, katsuki and izuku are probably there. i havent watched this scene i just know it exists. (was gonna go find it just for research). enji hits shouto with the 'you can marry whoever you'd like' thing majig. shouto's like, cool i didnt give a shit anyways i was gonna marry her. with or without your permission. and THEN i hit you with the akshually... she's engaged... to be honest, a lot more scenes where it was just mother and daughter. i really wanted the point to hit home that, the mother is always intending to do good in the only ways she knows how - it's not discussed thoroughly, and she's obviously a negative influence when it matters most, which is why reader cuts her off at the end. i am a firm believer that not all parenting is good parenting, even when it comes from a good place, and to me it's like when you hurt someone - it doesn't matter your intention, because that should always come secondary to the fact that you hurt them in some way. sorry. i'm not sure if cutting completely out of the life like that was necessary, but i think that in real life, sometimes it is. something to think abt / regret abt this piece ig lots more on the brother. he was not seen a lot, and i cba to include more about him cuz tbh he's only really relevant for like... 2 scenes but basically the tl;dr is that. he also feels the same pressure. it's just offscreen. (he's a man, he's his father's heir, but he sees the impact this family has upon you). i honestly think he's pookie and hold him dear to my heart but he was really just there to get the plot moving... so.... sorry guys. i didnt even bother to give him a name. BUT hes definitely a very complex character i just didnt write it..... i just needed to add a little happiness to the dysfunctional family ok the husband. okay. so. i originally wrote him in with the intention of being someone to hate, entirely and utterly, with the whole of my heart. but i absolutely hate writing in characters that don't have at least some depth/some complexity, so here goes: he was definitely in love, i think, though i'm not sure i would call it that. there was a grooming aspect to it, an age gap difference (he attended all your recitals/performances when you were underage, had his eye on you), was twice your age. i think i wrote it in a way where it could definitely be interpreted as a form of love, as twisted and fucked up as it was⏤ in the way you think of ownership, that a pretty woman is nothing more than a flower to give the sun to, to water when you'd like. but you're not. you're more than that, you need more than food and water and a roof over your head, more than pretty jewels. you just couldn't love him, and i think that's the part that fucked with him the most. the husband was always supposed to die. i toyed with different versions of this⏤ if you should be the one to kill him, a final 'hurrah' when you finally find your courage. but i thought this wasn't very in line with the reader characterization, so i didn't include this. it's ok though u guys are always #1 bosses in my heart. i hope its clear though that the reader didnt love him at any point bc i dont like him enough as a character to give him that. sorry. he was also supposed to be a mafia man... did i make that clear... but both him and the father were like. i hate these characters. the father especially (he has 0 characterization he's only plot relevant bc he has to be). wipe them both from ur minds pls xx in terms of the baby: i actually know nothing about motherhood. this is only what i've done from the best of my imagination. if it isn't accurate at all i apologize.
i did not know tumblr had a max characters per block. i yap a lot huh. anyways on to cute shouto moments <3 i really considered the idea of like. sex scenes. nothing graphic, but tl;dr with shouto when you cry, he stops immediately. this would be near the end, when you're learning to live again, but it's like, you're so moved because no one has ever done it like this for you before, and he's just worried that he's done something wrong, and it's sad but it's like. you don't know if you can ever handle touch again, but bc you're married, you think it's your duty, and you also love him, so you want to try. you guys love each other so much i could sob. i didnt add this just bc i didnt think this was the fic i wanted to start nsfw with, and bc i dont think i could do the intimacy i wanted justice. also tbh i debated on including more thoughts of shouto during the relationship with the husband but i think, while the mc would definitely think of him, she would try her best to be a good wife. i think this is textbook of abusive relationships (i tried to portray that in the way that the husband speaks and turns the fault onto mc when he hits her) where naturally, they abuse you despite you already doing the best you can, and make you feel lesser for it. i.e. she hasn't thought about shouto the whole while, hasn't done anything, doesn't intend on it, and he still blames her for the way she feels. DID I EMPHASIZE THAT HE PICKS UP EVERY CALL EVEN THO U DONT TEXT HIM ANYMORE JUST IN CASE bc shouto todoroki the man that you are... the man i wrote you as... im never marrying idgaf i write my own standards too high i also jus wanna say guys... the way u pull him out of his shell... and then its his turn to pull him out of urs.... i am a SUCKER for stories that come full circle watch me write it into mermaid au anyways im so excited!!!!! in another world, shouto is the one to catch you. somehow he's in your penthouse apartment. the man's holding a knife to your throat (??) or it's your husband trying to save his own skin. in some variations you walk off the edge yourself, in some variations your husband pushes you, in some variations it's the man. i thought this fit better. either way in all of them he was supposed to dive off the fucking building after u but i also thought: he can't be there himself but he makes sure ur taken care of anyways. sort of fitting the characterization i had for him, i think. i rlly considered a kiss scene too but it'd be sort of natural. like stepping into someone's warmth and feeling entirely comfortable in it, knowing it's what you want and knowing it's also what he wants. at the end. but i didn't add it. wouldve been sweet but unnecessary bc i think this would be further down the line and would require a separate scene. once again i scoot free of my kiss-writing responsibilities ! ! ! more on this, though, i think i really like writing about how simple intimacy can be. i do not believe you need to be physically affectionate with someone to love them, though you certainly can be, and i hope this was reflected in the way i portrayed both shouto and reader. in my dreams we are shouto's sugar babies and just vibe for the rest of our lives. and that is all. the smallest things the reader does make him so happy like. slowly. you guys are already holding hands, so a kiss on the cheek would make him the happiest man on earth. oh here's a bonus scene: at some point he takes you out to see the fireworks. the two of you are sitting, you're tucked snugly into his side, you're watching the fireworks, but when you turn, he's watching you. it's so stupidly romantic. you probably ask him what he's looking at and hes just like 'you'. you flush a little. he kisses the top of your head, grinning like the little shit he is.
i also think it'd take a length of time to get married, so you guys probably do kiss sometime before then. no clue about the scene. but canonically (aka in my head) you guys are just having a normal conversation. like Normal Normal. nothing fancy. and all of a sudden you just lean in and kiss him on the corner of his lips. he touches it, and you can see the shock on his face. dunno if you lie and say 'something there i was just getting it for you' bc im a sucker for that but he only leans a little closer and asks you to do it again. i'd like to think man is patient even tho he desperately wants to (like to the point it's painful to watch) so you have to tell him straight up it's okay to do anything, when you're ready: i.e. initiate kisses and anything else later down the line. once he gets the green light though there's no stopping (he will immediately if u ever tell him) like in my head this man has been basically touch starved all his life and he YEARNS. everyone say thank you to the anon who prompted these scenes btw notes on reader: i think what i wanted to explore with this piece was the way that your parents, the environment you grow up in, the role models you have can shape how you grow a lot. but that does not mean you need to stay that way forever. and that even if you do, you are not necessarily 'weak' or any lesser. reader never actually stood up for herself until the very end, but she was strong in her own way. she tried her best to be a good wife, even when she practically hated her husband. she persevered, she tried her best to love her child. things were bleak, but she pulled through; she kept on living, she kept on breathing. and that was enough. she was enough! <33 i also don't know if this reader was a very believable one. a lot of what i explored here was an extension of some of my own experiences, but like. i simply have not experienced a lot of it personally, unlike with my other pieces, and not at all to the same depth. i hope that there are people out there that can resonate with her and her experiences, but like not in a fucked up way. i simply hope that this story can make someone out there feel seen/heard, even if it's just a little. also putting this here to say, i tried to write reader in a way where it made her thoughts read off as like. ingrained into her? but that the way she thinks is not supposed to be normalized. please love yourselves. just wanted to make that clear djsklsfjd

Bad day for nosy people who need to know what old fandom is 👀👀
lmao, i’m trying to talk myself out of it so that i don’t turn my current WIP list upside down on itself but. 🥹 i fear it has very powerful claws. 🦞 i’ve been mulling over like, why it ([Old Fandom]) is so attractive to me right now and i think it’s a combination of a few things!! like, one is the fact that i never originally left it by choice—real life kinda forced me away from my hobbies, and by the time i could circle back again, the fandom had died (i find it really interesting that so many modern fandoms don’t have staying power, but that’s a different discussion) and i was interested in different things. but now it’s seeing a revival and i’m remembering how much i loved it and how i never really… got closure for it, LOL, as silly as that sounds. 🥹 i never finished any of my ideas. 🥺 i went back into my old account actually, like a couple of weeks ago, and went through my fic drafts i had at the time and it—idk. i guess it just made me nostalgic. 🥹 it’s different, tonally, to what we do here in the bnha/x reader niche!! and it makes me itchy. 🥹😩 god!! so itchy. i wanna dig my fingers into it and move things around. dig it up from the garden. perform necromancy on the lover that doesn’t even know they’re dead, and blinks and finds themselves sitting in the same old kitchen with a cup of coffee in their hand. 🥹🥹🥹 i’m better equipped now—i know how to keep myself interested in long-term projects, how to finish them and, most importantly, what i like.
there’s a lot of stuff i like to write that i just don’t, here in our niche. either because it doesn’t fit in with the bnha world or just doesn’t like… suit the x reader POV. and that’s on me LOL, a better (or maybe more determined) writer could make all those things work, but part of what i like about bnha and x reader and [old fandom] is that they’re distinct—they all feel different. i wrote a lot before i got here!! i wrote so much. i wrote so much that i like, kinda burnt myself out on it LMAOO. there were tropes i liked and settings and tricks i used all the time that after a while they got boring to me. 🥹 and now after a million years of doing something different, i’ve realised—oh. i really liked all that. 🥹 i really like it, still.
idk!! idk. part of not naming the fandom is also because i haven’t decided if i wanna jump back in or not lmao. do i do it, knowing it’ll slow everything up even more? we tell ourselves all the time here in fandom circles that it’s just fanfic/fanart! you’re here to have fun! if it gets hard or boring or you wanna try something new—drop it! do it! you don’t owe anybody anything!! which is all very true yes sure. except i, me, mermie, want to finish things. i want the satisfaction of finishing the IAL series. im actually very proud of the fics, and while i know i will finish shouto’s (barring being kidnapped by pirates or aliens or death himself ig 💀), i also know im a slow writer, and that letting myself deviate off path into a completely different fandom will make me slower. 🥹 so idk. i guess ive just been ruminating on fiddly details like that LOL. also i don’t have a solid plot in mind yet (even tho i have a general gist of what i want) so that’s also probably the main leash rn LMAOOO. tbh if i get one im going in swinging, fist first, so let’s all hope that i remain idealess on that front lest the demons take me. 🥹🙏🏽

hellaaa plz share your favorite dabihawks fics for all of us who want some recs into their crazy minds!!
sorry i didnt answer this straight away i was reading a 230k words fic that i wanted to finish before i added it here 😭 does anyone know what's wrong with me. therapists hate me
dabihawks rec list!!
burn it all down by dorothycanfly - an au where dabi comes back to the todoroki estate to kill shouto when he's 19 and shouto is 11, but decides instead to take his little brother with him as part of his Grand Evil Masterplan that doesn't quite go as he wanted. this is the fic i always rec first in this fandom as it's the first dabi fic i really read that felt like it Understood Him and really made me go bananas about him. it's dark and twisted and true to what i think his actual mindset would be without demonising him, and also has shouto and him being very close and the way the author writes their dynamic is everything to me like it's so true to a real sibling relationship and id die for them. it gets very smutty in the middle but if that's not your thing the plot also kicks right back up again at 100mph immediately after, and there's also a sequel still being updated that's very promising.
big reputations by phanatics - singer fake dating au!!! i absolutely love dabi's characterisation in this and the celebrity angle is handled soooo well. the miscommunication and slow burn is incredible and that's coming from a bitch who finds both tropes frustrating unless they're done to my very niche standards. im pretty sure i read this fic in one day. im not making graduation i fear.
gunshots and molotovs by ironicallystupid - this is a 14k oneshot where dabi treats hawks' gunshot wound in a distinctly dabi way and then they get drunk. this one really got to me and i think it's bc it's one fic where they feel so true to character while still, for once, both acting their age. a big appeal of dabihawks for me is that they are both ultimately just two guys in their early twenties and seeing them embody that youth and silliness was surprisingly poignant
the 'will you accept this rose?' series by satelliteblue- the famous bachelorette au! if you don't know what i mean by famous, it's bc this fic has a habit of getting people who don't even read mha fic obsessed with it. like it's genuinely addicting. i remember first finding it and being like 'bacherlorette au dabihawks? be so fr' and look where im at now, 355k words later. it's genuinely just such a fun read AND i love the drama of it AND it has the todofam angle AND an actual plot snuck into it effortlessly. one of my fav fics of all time truly and it's still updating!
perspective by theeclecticeccentric - this is the fic i just finished and when i tell you ive powered through all 230k words of it in the past 4ish days. i love the league dynamic in this with the whole found family angle. i'll say it was something i clicked on less bc this kind of au (childhood friends dabihawks brainwashed to forget each other) is what i would normally go for and more bc i have BATTERED the dabihawks tag for all it's worth so i just tried it on a whim, but im so happy i clicked this bc it wound up being so fun! i also love any fic that forces the heroes and villains to ally against the hpsc and this fic does that. instant hit with me.

about couples and such. [bakugou katsuki x f!reader] + midoriya izuku
Tumblr media
notes: i tried my best to get his (and midoriya's) personality right, for a little after that one fight. i hope i really get it right and it's still bakugou and midoriya in the end. it was fun to (try to) write tho. extra note: petty couple fights. please do not take this fic too seriously because i certainly did not.
Tumblr media
Whenever Katsuki and you fight, Izuku always suffers.
Such was the rule of the universe—or so his classmates said. Shouto pat his back, Ochako tried to cheer him up, and Iida… tried his best. But, in the end, Izuku couldn’t exactly refute those words.
Though, recently, whenever the two of you fought, it became a whole dorm crisis.
“I hate him,” you said, sobbing into your knees as you curled up on top of the lounge sofa. Izuku wished there were others with him and you at the moment. Unfortunately, like traitors all of them were conveniently away and busy.
Izuku stuttered your name. “He-hey, don’t say it like that,” he managed a smile that ended up more as a grimace more than anything. With a patience of someone who had handled this sort of issue since the three of you were in kindergarten, Izuku continued, “I’m sure Kacchan didn’t mean any of the words he said.”
“He called me weak! A deadweight!” you screamed before throwing yourself to the green haired boy. Seasoned and trained, Izuku caught you and returned your hug with a sympathetic pat to the back. A part of him noted that Katsuki had called you worse things back in your youth, but he supposed ‘childhood friends’ status that had changed to ‘romantic partners’ would change things too. So, wisely, he didn’t comment.
“There, there,” was the only he thing he could said. If only ‘Kacchan’ was better at this whole dating thing…
“Hey.”
Izuku’s head did a sharp turn to his right. Talk about the devil and he shall appear, they say. Think about Bakugou Katsuki and he will appear like a ghost haunting the dorm, he says.
From his hug, Izuku felt you tried to discretely peaked at your boyfriend. Without seeing it, Izuku knew you were failing miserably. Katsuki, too, seemed to notice your stare and immediately met your eyes with his permanent glare. In response, you immediately hid your face on Izuku’s chest and hug him tigther.
If Izuku noticed Katsuki shifting that glare into a genuine one at him—no, he didn’t.
As Izuku tried to think what should he do now, that he was stuck in this unpleasant confrontation, Katsuki spoke, “Have you eaten yet?”
You, unsurprisingly, refused to reply. Instead, you hugged Izuku tighter as if such action would make Katsuki step away. It didn’t, it only got the two of your an even nastier glare.
Izuku, like a saint, answered in your stead. “Uh, she haven’t,” Izuku said, omitting the fact that you were skipping meals since yesterday because ‘Katsuki called you a deadweight in the middle of a training’. Your tantrum was as complicated as it was already and he would not at anything to that.
Katsuki stayed silent as he gave your form a once over. Izuku suddenly felt like a parent. Perhaps, this was where he should nudge the blond to apologize to you?
“You are not a deadweight,” Katsuki stated, suddenly but confidently. You suddenly stiffened like a stone in his arms. “There I said it, so hurry up, the fuck you want to eat?”
Izuku tried not to outwardly grimaced once again at that. He knew that you are a tough girl, but considering the circumstances at the moment since this argument started, he really wished Katsuki could be a bit gentler. You just complained at him for three hours about Katsuki’s ‘cute bastard’ way of talking while crying and Izuku really really didn’t want a sequel of that to enfold in front of the related person.
Luckily, this time, you responded to Katsuki. Slowly, you raised your head away from Izuku as your hold on him loosened. You still glared at the sofa, not meeting Katsuki’s gaze. Silently, you sent a side glance to the source of your irritation.
“Katsudon,” you answered, quick and hoarse after crying, before promptly returning to hug Izuku tightly. Izuku regretted not bringing a pillow or something else to avoid this fate.
At your answer, Katsuki made a sour face. Of course. That answer either came from your mind that was filled of curses ready to be hurled at Katsuki or because you simply wanted to jab at him through his name. Nonetheless, with a sigh, Katsuki dutifully turned away and walked towards the kitchen, “Fine.”
As he walked away, Izuku once again wished that the two of you could discuss this just so this fiasco could end faster. He held back a sigh and returned to patting you in the back.
“Izuku,” you mumbled to his clothes.
“Hm?” Izuku responded patiently.
“I don’t like arguing with Katsuki,” you said, your voice just above a whisper.
Izuku sagely nodded, having heard this for hundred times already each time the two of you fought, “I know, I know.”
“I will…” you trailed off, gently prying yourself away from Izuku. Your reddened eyes blinked a few times, before you finished your sentence. “…I will help Katsuki. He must be hungry too.”
Izuku didn’t have the chance to reply before you walked away, going to the kitchen. He stared at your direction, wondering if he should follow. Then, he remembered how it had always been—since you were little and since the three of you reconciled.
Learning from experience, Izuku chose to return to his room.
(If he heard a quiet chatter accompanied by peaceful clanging of pans and sizzles of seasonings from the kitchen, Izuku didn’t bother to listen and gave that moment to the two of you.)

do you have any tips or advice for being more confident about your writing / avoiding the comparison trap on here? /gen
Hello my love!! Oh my gosh, I have a zillion and one thoughts on this subject. Please excuse how disorganized this is but I am so happy to word vom at you lmao.
I think to start with, it depends on what you're comparing: whether it's the work itself or the metrics surrounding it! I will start with the work itself, and move on to talking about metrics if that's cool.
Your Story
In terms of the quality of your work, there are a couple key things to remember!! Firstly, think it's easy to feel like so many tropes and story lines have already been done, why would anyone want to read mine? But you can circumvent this quite intentionally in your writing by thinking about what new thing you can bring to that trope or story line. And make no mistake, there is always something new, whether it's a plot twist, a unique motivator, a different character's perspective, etc.
For example, I've read and loved several merman Shouto fics, and I also wanted to write a merman Shouto fic. In the development of something in the water, I sat down and thought about what things I'd read about merman Shouto before, and how could I add to that, outside of rehashing what I'd already read. I discovered I wanted to expand on mating rituals, spend some time on the cultural differences a human and merman would inevitably have, and linger in the feeling of a tropical island because at the time of the fic's conception it was like, the dead of my winter LOL. And I do think that something in the water has turned out pretty distinct for that effort; as far as I am aware no one has written merman Shouto being wheeled into a tropical bungalow in a wheelbarrow to watch The Little Mermaid lol.
So you can always bring something new to the table! And it will make your work feel standout to you, as well, as you will be very aware of all the things you did that were unique!! You will not feel like you're just rehashing something that has already been done, you will feel like you're adding!
Also in terms of quality, I think it's helpful to look at fic writing like a growth opportunity rather than a permanent, established skill set. The "quality" of your style is not fixed, it something you actively develop by reading, digging into other people's styles, seeing how they make their writing work, and trying out some of those elements for yourself. Maybe someone has a really rich descriptive style that you find beautiful, maybe someone writes dark psychological fics that thrill you; if you spend time looking at the words they are using and how they use them, you can replicate those techniques in your own writing. You can quite literally make your own writing look more like the writing you admire by reverse engineering authors' techniques.
Conversely, writing as a growth opportunity mean you do not have to be perfect. The process of writing is the process of figuring out what works, mechanically. It's not a reflection on you at all. You don't have to write anything "good," you can publish something you had fun with, see what people react positively to in it, and turn around and take those elements forward in your next story, while abandoning the things people maybe did not love or had questions on. And rinse and repeat over and over until you do end up with something you'd term "quality."
To me at least, that thought is a huge relief. Because I can just have fun, let people say what they say, and do something different in my next story if needs must. It's like any skill set, I think. It takes time to hone but no one would call, like, Van Gogh untalented because he once started with rough and heavy pencil sketches, right?
It's the knowledge that I'm building up my future self's skill set that gives me confidence to publish, even if I'm not quite where I want to be currently! And I really hope this helps you the way it does me; the knowledge that you can do anything, write like anyone, but that it's all part of an overarching process to learn to enjoy writing like you!
Which brings me to:
The Metrics
I am just going to say flat out that you should try to ignore metrics as best you can. In my experience, metrics are absolutely no indicator of a work's quality. Some of the work I am proudest of is what anyone would consider a "flop" by note count, whereas I think some of my most trite & banal works would be considered by some metric quite "popular." And I think that way about some of my favorite fics too, one of my absolute fave fics of all time only recently broke 100 kudos on ao3 after being up for years!!
I especially think this is true on tumblr, where a work's packaging and digestibility seem to be the key elements in gaining notes (ao3 does not allow the same level of customization). Fics with elaborate headers, cute & small fonts (I am guilty of loving these), and eye-catching graphics all naturally draw attention more easily in the sea of other fics, so it makes sense why more people would tend to look at those, and subsequently like or reblog them. I also think bullet-pointed headcanons or single/short paragraph works tend to skyrocket in notes here because they're quick and easy; and that makes sense too, right? If it's easier to read of course it's likelier to be read more!
But those things mean absolutely nothing about the quality of the work within. And you can take reassurance from the fact that you too can replicate those elements if note count is what you are truly after here! You can make a video header with any of the premades on Canva! You can try different font arrangements or cool graphics. You can even write a paragraph and tag it with a bunch of different characters for maximum exposure. There is no reason to get jealous, I think, if you can do it too!!
I also think you have to be conscious of different factors at play with authors. Some authors have been around since the inception of the fandom you're in, and naturally will have had more visibility for longer than you, but that also says nothing about the quality of their work. I've been around in the BNHA fandom for four years, and by a mixture of luck and timing ended up getting to publish a lot of my work during the pandemic when more people than ever were getting into BNHA. But does that make me better than some of the newer authors joining the fandom just now? HELL no lol, if anything maybe I could be getting complacent!
And this goes for the size of fandoms and the popularity of certain characters as well!! A Shouto fic is not going to do as well as a Bakugou fic because Bakugou has like, three times the stans. A Shinsou fic is not going to do as well as a Shouto fic because Shouto has like, five times the stans lol. And a Kaiju no. 8 fic is not going to do as well as a JJK fic because the fandom size (and therefore potential audience pool) has a significant discrepancy! Don't gauge your fic's success against someone else's in a different fandom or for a different character (or honestly even at a different point in the source material's storyline because sometimes a character has a moment where they are most popular but that drops off - think BNHA Hawks in 2020/2021 vs now lol).
There is a huge variety of external factors at play that determine your exposure and audience, but absolutely none of those can ever say anything about the quality of your work. So I hope you can try to distance yourself from the need to compare your metrics to anyone else's, because quite frankly they do not mean shit.
TLDR, think the best way to overcome the comparison trap is to write a story you love and feel is unique, something you are proud of. Because no one is ever going to tell a story quite how you would, and therefore no one can ever be compared. & I hope this was helpful and addressed whatever specific area of concern you have!! But let me know if not and I'm happy to discuss more!!

In Chapter 3 of Ambush Simulation, I wrote that Touya plays piano, and I wanted to further expand the thought process behind that choice, especially since whenever the fandom has him playing an instrument, I usually see fanworks of him playing a guitar.
(Also, Ryouta.)
First off is the reason given in the fic notes: The piano aspect revolving around Touya rehabilitating his hands after the fire/coma.
Second of all was the idea that his teacher was his grandmother.  For context, the relationship between Grandma Himura and Touya is a brief and tragic one.  As stated in the chapter, she has since passed away, but what’s important is she came to see him after he returned and that visit became an almost permanent one.  After learning he was dying, Rei and Endeavor both shut him out, whether it was guilt over what had happened to him or not wanting to get attached.  As an elderly woman already approaching the end of her life, Grandma Himura has that poignant understanding that time is running out for both of them and she chose not to squander that.  There’s also the idea that she may feel as though she failed her daughter, and so she’s trying to make amends as best she can through her grandson.  How the piano fits into this narrative:  The Himura family strikes me as a ‘traditional role’ family.  As in the women aren’t making particularly strong waves of rebelling against the patriarchal hands they’re dealt.  Under those circumstances, a piano is a far more ‘respectable’ Western instrument for a lady to play compared to the snooty attitude against something as ‘uncouth’ as an acoustic guitar.
Following that snobby train of thought with the third point, there’s also the unfortunate fact that piano does have a cloud of elitism hovering over it compared to other instruments, so that’s some more social bullshit for Touya and his ‘unsightly’ appearance to navigate.
Another thought that went into this is how a piano is a very noticeable and public hobby as far as a household is concerned. You can practice violin or guitar in the privacy of your own room, but a piano, especially one as big as a parlor grand, demands its own space. Practicing with other people in the house means them overhearing both your good and your bad moments, but it's easier to fool yourself into thinking no one is listening if you're in your own room with the door shut as opposed to being in the open in a communal space. Hence why he does not like either Endeavor or Shouto overhearing him.
...
The idea that Touya teaches though?
I can trace the inspiration for that back to this screenshot from Klaus:
Tumblr media
Because he would be this person.
But there is more to Alva's character that's gone into this inspiration. If you haven't seen the film, I recommend it. It's actually a pretty wholesome Christmas movie. If not, you can find Netflix's official clip Klaus: Learning to Write on YouTube. That's pretty much what I had in mind when writing that element in this AU.

Hi Kiara!! I missed reading your fics hehe, it always brings me joy!! If you have time, please consider writing a fic with lee reader (male or gender neutral) and lers todoroki and bakugou! Hehe (Probably the Reader is a new student in UA, initially scared of Todoroki and Bakugou because of their brutality in the UA Sports Festival. But then Midoriya decided to introduce the reader to them to show that they're not that scary, and the teasy midoriya somehow make Bakugou and Todoroki wreck the reader with tickles lol). P.S. please no foot/palm tickles, have a nice day Kiara! Looking forward to it <3
You’ll fit in Just fine
Tumblr media
A/N: Hello nonnie!! I’m glad my fics bring you happiness.
Summary: You just transferred to UA and Izuku helps you fit into 1-A. He introduces you to Bakugou and Todoroki. Everyone thinks that they’re very intimidating, but Izuku will prove otherwise by inviting you to a game night!
G/N- Gender Neutral (They/Them)
———————————————————————-
“My stuff is already here?” You asked Deku nervously. “Yeah I helped your parents bring your stuff up” He smiled at you.
“Come on i have some friends I would like for you to meet” He eagerly grabbed your hand. You grabbed on to anything and everything to stop him from bringing dragging you inside of the dorms. “Y/N come on there’s nothing to be nervous about” he explained as he pull.
As you entered the dorms mix of excitement and apprehension. But a couple of them were playing a game when you walked in. “Hey guys this is Y/N. They’re new here” Deku introduced. “H-hi I’m F/N L/N. I was originally supposed to be here on the first day of UA but they lost some paper work and I had to wait.” You explained.
“Omg hiiiii Y/N I’m Mina by the way I love your hair is pretty” Mina complimented you. “I’m Denki IS THAT A FRUITSBASKET TATTOO I LOVE THAT ANIME” Denki fanboyed over the tattoo. One by one they introduced themselves to you it calmed your nerves. “Hey do you guys wanna play with us?” Sero offered.
“I have to help them finish unpacking plus I want them to meet Kacchan and Todoroki” He smiled before he dragged you into the elevator. “When you said todoroki you don’t mean… Endeavor’s son Shouto do you?” Your nerves started creeping up on ya. “Yes and Kacchan, I still can’t believe you don’t remember him the three of us use to play heroes all the time” Deku reminded you.
“WAIT BAKUGOU?! KATSUKI BAKUGOU?!” The realization finally hit you. “Yes him” Deku giggled. “He’s that guy from the sports festival who went up against ochako!!” You started panicking.
“Kacchan isn’t gonna hurt you netheir is Todoroki they’re both super fun to be around once you get to know em” Deku reassured you as you two walk to Todoroki’s room he knocked on the door as it open you see Bakugou sitting down on his bed.
“Hey sho” Deku happily greeted. “Hello Midoriya” He greeted him back as he notice you “Who’s this Midoriya are they new?” He asked.
“Bingo! This is Y/F/N Y/L/N, Y/N this is Shoto and That is Kacchan”Deku introduced. “Haven’t seen this extra since back when I was 5” Kacchan raised a brow looking at you. “H-Hi is that the one card game you were talking about Izu?” You asked noticing the game infront of Bakugou.
“Oh yeah that’s the Truth or Dare game lets all play it” Deku plopped on Shoto’s bed. Shoto closed the door as both you and him sat on his bed. “Sure why not” Todoroki agreed as he opened the boxes and found some cards laying the two stacks ‘Truth’ and ‘Dare’. “You’re going first Deku” bakugou stated.
“Fine” Deku goes picking up a date card “Dare spin in a circle for 30 seconds and walk in a straight line, if you fail cold water will be poured on you! Guys can we do 15 seconds? Pleaseeeee” Deku whined. You, bakugou, and Todoroki told him no.
“Fine If i hurt myself I blame all of you” Deku pouted as he did his dare successfully surprisingly.
“You’re turn Kacchan” Deku smiled. “I know that Deku” He also picked up a Dare “Dare have a chugging contest with the person on your left. loser has to get a nose hair pulled you’re gonna lose Deku” Bakugou grinned handing Deku a water bottle.
They both began to chug and surprisingly it was a tie. “Who won it was me right icyhot?” He gasped for air. “Nah uh it was totally me right Y/N” Deku argued. “Well it was a tie” you and todoroki both say. “So who gets the punishment?” Deku asked “I guess no one since it was a tie if so then I’m drawing my card” Todoroki explained picking up a dare “Dare draw a Truth um okay Truth is it true that you like cats? Yes my sister has a cat at home she just adopted her, her name is Chi Chi” Todoroki told the truth.
“That wasn’t fair” Deku pouted.
“Your turn nerd” Bakugou notified you. You picked up a Dare “Dare send your mom or dad a risky message then text oops wrong person. Yeah no that’s a set up Andrea my parent will kill me. I’m picking truth Truth are you ticklish No okay your turn Midoriya” you sped up the last bit. “Why—“
“Shut up go” you side-eyed Deku smiling nervously. “You didn’t read the the whole card dummy we have to prove if it’s true or not” Deku giggled as you doubled back looking at the card it did indeed say that.
Little did you know, Bakugou and Todoroki had mischievous sides too. Suddenly, they teamed up and decided it was time to initiate you into their group by indulging in some lighthearted tickling fun.
As they approached you with mischievous grins, you tried to protest, but the ticklish sensations overwhelmed your resistance. “Seehe I’m not tihicklish” “Oi Deku come hold their arms down there in my way” Bakugou demanded. And of course Deku pinned your arms above your head which made you more vulnerable and ticklish.
“Lehet goho izhuhuku you traitohor” you let giggles out.
Giggles and laughter filled the room as they tickled you, gently but persistently, until you couldn't hold back the laughter anymore.
“Ohohkahahay wahahait ihit tihickles ahahaha” you tried wiggling out of Deku’s grip. “That’s the point” Deku giggled tracing shapes on your neck,as bakugou started scribbling your armpits.
“Nahahahaha THAHAHATS BAHAHAHAHAD”
“Finally they cracked” Bakugou smirked . “They’re more ticklish than you Midoriya” Todoroki teased drilling his fingers into your hips. “Todoroki!” Deku blushed.
“OHOHOHOKAHAHAHAY OHOHOKAHAHAY” you tapped the floor and they let up. “See I told you they weren’t that bad” Deku giggled.
After the tickling stopped, you realized that your initial fear of Bakugou and Todoroki had melted away. Their playful antics had brought you closer together, and from that day forward, you all cherished the bond of friendship, knowing that laughter truly knows no bounds.

Shouto’s Sizzling Night of Rebellion
‣ Pairing: None (some minor unserious hints at various ships if you squint), *EraserMic* (extended content at the end -optional read)
‣ Summary: Shouto Todoroki has had enough of his father interfering with his life. Tonight is his night, and nobody, especially Endeavor, is going to stand in the way of him having a good time.
‣ Genre: crack/comedy
‣ Warnings: alcohol/marijuana use, Shouto using his hot side to cook bacon.
‣ Word Count: 7,008 (8,048 -including extra EraserMic content at the end)
‣ A/N: This is genuinely the most chaotic and ridiculous thing I’ve ever written. I was inspired by this video by MorphyVA. Between listening to this video and writing this fic, I found myself laughing harder than I have in a very long time. Hopefully it can at least make you laugh half as much as I did while making it. Now buckle up and get ready for a slow burn into full-blown chaos and absurdity!

"Shouto! Your shorts are too short!”
"Shouto! Answer my calls!"
"Shouto! Don’t go to parties!”
"Shouto! Stop ignoring me!"
The grating voice of his father rang in Shouto’s mind. After all these years of Endeavor being so distant and treating him as anything but a son, he suddenly decided to compete for the “father of the year” award. He certainly wouldn’t win; Shouto knew that for a fact. All his attempts up to this point had been pathetic and useless, especially considering he had hardly built an honest relationship with Shouto to begin with.
What pieces were there left to patch up, anyway?
Ever since Endeavor decided to be more of a present figure in Shouto’s life, his daily existence had truly become the definition of “hell”. He couldn’t seem to escape him. Even if he managed to run away and hide somewhere else, he’d be plagued by near-constant calls and texts from his father. He couldn’t even escape his father’s voice, that seemed to have something to say about everything he did.
In many ways, Shouto much preferred life before Endeavor suddenly grew a conscience. At least he had become comfortable with the distant and abusive nature of his father before his recent change of character. It was much more predictable, and this made things a lot easier for Shouto to handle, especially in moments when he was forced to be around him. He was used to it. But this? This was a whole new level of torture. And Shouto’s sanity was steadily slipping by the day. He needed a break from his father’s constant badgering and pitiful attempts at “bonding” with him. He needed to let loose and reclaim the autonomy that his father was trying so hard to strip away from him under the guise of “fatherhood.” He’d had enough.
Tonight would be the night that Shouto truly broke free from his father’s chains…
Loud music and the sounds of people talking and singing filled the common room of the Class 1-A dorms, bodies buzzing past Shouto as he stood as a quiet observer in the middle of the room. He was wearing his shortest pair of black gym shorts and a white t-shirt that he had cut into a crop top, showing off his toned midriff. In his right hand was a red plastic cup filled with a mysterious liquid. Mina had offered it to him not long after he walked into the room. She said it was punch, but Shouto was pretty sure it was spiked with alcohol, based on the bitter aftertaste. He had no problem with this. In fact, it made him smirk a little while he drank it. His father would never approve of this, and that only made him want to do it even more.
His phone buzzed in his pocket. He sighed as he pulled it out and saw the text from Endeavor.
“Don’t forget our family dinner tomorrow at 5pm.”
Shouto growled in frustration, typing out a sarcastic response in return.
“How could I forget? You won’t seem to let me, no matter how hard I try!”
His phone continued to vibrate as messages from his father came through, one of them telling him to come to the dinner “dressed with dignity," clearly referencing the shorts Endeavor saw him wearing the other day. The same ones he was wearing now, just to spite him. Shouto barely scanned the rest of the messages before rolling his eyes and powering off his phone, which continued to vibrate until the screen finally went black. He shoved his phone back into his pocket, now feeling even more irritated than he was before.
He downed the rest of his drink and headed towards the punch bowl to refill his cup, stopping in his tracks along the way when he heard his name being shouted over the music. Turning his head towards the direction of the familiar voices, he spotted Izuku, Uraraka, Mina, Tokoyami, and Tsuyu smiling and waving at him. He offered them a small smile and joined their circle.
“Todoroki! How are you liking the party so far?” Izuku asked.
“It’s good. Are parties usually this loud?” Shouto answered, trying to speak up over the music.
“I think so!” Uraraka said.
Tsuyu held a small cup of punch in her hands as her eyes scanned the room. “Where’s Iida?”
"We sent him away. Convinced him he should visit his brother for the weekend." Mina confessed on behalf of the rest of the group.
Izuku scratched the back of his neck, a guilty smile on his face. "Yeah, I kinda feel bad about it…"
Uraraka placed a reassuring hand on Izuku’s shoulder. "It's for the best, Deku. You know he couldn't handle something like this.”
Mina nodded in agreement, bringing her cup to her lips and taking a sip before she spoke. “He’d definitely get us all busted.”
"I guess you're right. I thought I wouldn't like parties, but this one is fun!" Izuku smiled.
Tokoyami looked around at everyone else having fun at the party as he spoke. "Mm. I agree."
"Me too!" Uraraka chimed in.
"The punch is good."
The others chuckled at Shouto’s random comment, agreeing with him as they drank from their own cups. Shouto looked down at the empty one in his hands.
"You want a refill on that, buddy?"
Shouto looked up to find Denki by his side, smiling at him with a half-full pitcher of punch in his left hand and a stack of empty cups in the other.
"Oh, yes. Thank you, Kaminari."
Denki bowed dramatically after filling Shouto’s cup with more punch. "My pleasure! As the host of this party, it's the least I could do!"
"What?! Who put Dunce-Face in charge?!"
Unlike everyone else, it wasn’t hard to hear whatever the explosive blond had to say. His booming voice easily surpassed the volume of the music. Denki turned around to face Bakugou, who was glaring at him intimidatingly. Kirishima moved to stand beside him, nudging him with his elbow.
"Be nice, Bakugou! He's done a great job so far!" Kirishima said, attempting to tame the wild beast that threatened to be unleashed upon Denki and the rest of the innocent partygoers in the room.
Denki flashed a proud smile at the two of them.
"Thanks, man! And before you ask, Bakugou, I took care of the surveillance problem before the party even started! Called in a favor from an old friend. He managed to loop the live camera feed seamlessly! It'll last until morning! I also talked to the other dorms, and they said they’d keep quiet about it, so long as we return the favor for them in the future!"
Bakugou scowled. "If that's the case, then you extras better make sure everything is cleaned up before then! I don't wanna deal with the consequences of your stupid actions!"
"Nothing's going to happen, don't worry! Come on, Bakugou! Have some fun!"
Denki held out a cup of punch towards Bakugou, who was quick to push his hand away. Denki stumbled a little as he tried not to spill the liquid onto the floor.
"No! I'm going to bed! Last thing I’m gonna do is be an idiot with a hangover during tomorrow's training.” Bakugou muttered before turning his focus to Kirishima. He pointed a threatening finger at him as he spoke. “You better go easy on the drinking, Shitty Hair! You're going to train tomorrow, whether you like it or not!"
"Alright, alright!" Kirishima put his hands up in defense, one of them holding a full cup of punch.
Denki rolled his eyes as Bakugou took a step past him. "Fine! Go to bed, gramps! It's clearly way past your bedtime, anyway!"
Bakugou’s jaw clenched as he turned back towards Denki. "You better watch your mouth or I'll put you to sleep right now, Dunce Face!"
"Ooh, I'm scared!" Denki smirked, half laughing as he spoke.
Watching Bakugou fall into Denki’s trap caused Kirishima to let out an amused sigh and step in between the two of them. "Alright, both of you settle down! Katsuki, you can go to bed now. We'll be fine down here."
Begrudgingly pulling his crimson daggers away from Denki to glance at Kirishima, Bakugou rolled his eyes with a huff and turned to walk away. He made it a few steps away from the crowd when Shouto spoke.
"Goodnight, bestie."
Everyone tried to hold in their laughs, Denki snorting and Kirishima covering his mouth to suppress his own laughter as Bakugou visibly tensed and clenched his fists, his speed increasing as he stomped towards the elevator in the back of the room.
“Man, he is such a party pooper!” Mina spoke once he was out of sight, an amused smile on her face as she shook her head. Everyone else tried to recover from their laughing fits.
“I know! It’s like he’s allergic to fun!” Denki said, still chuckling a bit.
A party pooper? Shouto had never heard this saying before, but it reminded him of his father. His dad was not fun, by any means, and he always found a way to ruin anything Shouto considered to be a good time. But tonight was different. So far, he was having a decent time, but not yet a good time. He needed to do more fun things that his father wouldn't approve of. After once again pushing away his father's nagging voice in his head, Shouto set out to do the next thing his father wouldn't approve of...dancing.
He took a large gulp of his drink and turned to face the other end of the room, walking towards where everyone else seemed to be dancing to the music.
“Todoroki! Where are you going?” Izuku called out to him.
Shouto looked over his shoulder. “Dance.”
“Ooh! I’ll join you! Come on, Uraraka!” Mina chimed in excitedly.
“Okay! Deku, let’s go!” Uraraka grabbed Izuku’s hand and pulled him towards an empty space on the dance floor.
“B-But! I’m not really good at dancing!” Izuku said, his face blushing a deep red.
Shouto stood in the middle of the dance floor, looking around at everyone curiously. He’d never danced before, and he’d never really paid any close attention to how others danced before either. He saw Tokoyami leaned up against the wall across from him, bobbing his head to the beat of the music, so he started with that.
“Do you need help? With dancing, I mean.”
Shouto nodded at Momo. “I don’t know how.”
She giggled. “I could tell. Let’s start with something simple, then! See how Kirishima is moving his shoulders? Start with that!”
Shouto observed Kirishima and tried his hardest to replicate this move. He was a little out of time with the beat of the music, but he began to get better after a couple of minutes.
“You got it! Great job!” Momo clapped and danced alongside him.
A small smile tugged at his lips. This was more fun than he thought it’d be. It felt…good. And very scandalous. His father would never approve of this. He took another big sip of his drink while continuing to dance.
・ 。゚🔥: *.🥓 .* :🔥˚.・
After a while of dancing his heart out, Shouto had learned a couple more moves from Kirishima and Denki. Aoyama had attempted to show him some moves too, but they were too advanced and flashy for him. By now, Shouto was feeling really good, and it wasn’t just because of the dancing. He had nearly finished his third cup of punch when Kirishima stepped in, noticing him stumbling around on the dance floor a little too much.
“Hey, man! I think that’s enough dancing for now, don’t you think?”
Kirishima slung his arm over Shouto’s shoulders to steady him. Shouto glanced up at him, still bobbing in time with the music.
“I’m having fun.”
“Well, I think we should have fun together over here! We can dance more later!” Kirishima pointed towards the lounge area.
“Okay.” Shouto tilted his head back as he gulped down the rest of his drink, leaning his weight against Kirishima slightly as he did so.
“I think we should also take a break from drinking. What do ya say, buddy?” Kirishima suggested, eyeing his friend with slight concern in his eyes.
It was strange for Kirishima, seeing Shouto drunk and acting differently than usual. He wasn’t sure what to think of it. He tried to take the cup from Shouto’s hand, only for him to pull it away from his grasp.
“No! I like it!” Shouto argued, his voice raising slightly above his usual neutral tone.
Kirishima raised a brow at this, a small, amused smirk tugging at his lips. He held his hand up in playful surrender.
“Alright, man! No worries! I’ll refill your cup for you! Let’s just get you situated over here, okay? Then we can hang and have fun together!”
Shouto nodded and allowed Kirishima to guide him to the lounge area nearby. The moment Shouto spotted a bean bag someone had placed in the room, he insisted that he sat in it, grumbling something about how his father never let him have a bean bag growing up and he’d never approve of him sitting in one. Kirishima didn’t question him and helped him sit in the bean bag, before leaving to fill Shouto’s empty cup with water, almost positive he’d be too drunk to notice.
He was right. After 2 more cups of plain water, Shouto decided he’d had enough. By this point, Sero had joined the two of them in the lounge area, and Shouto had started a drunken rant about his father. Kirishima and Sero listened intently as they took small puffs of the joint Sero had brought along with him to the party.
"I can't even wear my favorite shorts without my dad getting onto me about it! Ughh! I hate him!" Shouto let out a frustrated sigh, his fists clenching at the thought of his father.
Sero took a puff of the joint pinched between his forefinger and thumb, his face scrunched up in opposition to what he was hearing.
"Well, that's stupid. You look good in your shorts! They, uh…accentuate your features nicely, if you don't mind me saying."
Shouto could feel his internal temperature growing warmer, and he wasn’t sure if it was simply because he was angry or if there was something else to it. Too drunk to think any harder about it, he shook his head.
"I don't mind. That's also why I like to wear them. I feel confident in them. And they're good for playing volleyball."
Sero passed the joint to Kirishima, who took another hit of it. "Then you should keep wearing them! Fuck what your dad has to say about it!"
Kirishima let out a large puff of smoke before speaking.
"Yeah! He's right! It's your life and you can live it however you want!"
Shouto smiled at the two of them. "Thanks, guys. I feel very heard and supported right now. You're the best."
"Good! We got your back, man! Whatever you wanna do, we support you!" Kirishima smiled, giving him a thumbs up from his reclined position on the couch.
"I want to get high,” Shouto confessed.
Sero chuckled and leaned forward on the couch, the joint held in his outstretched hand towards Shouto. "Hell yeah, my dude! You clearly need it more than either of us."
Shouto took the joint from Sero and listened closely as he explained to him how to take a proper hit of it. Shouto nodded in understanding, staring at it between his pale fingers.
"My dad would never approve of this.”
"Are you really gonna let that stop you?" Sero challenged, a smirk growing on his face as Shouto shook his head and spoke his next words.
"Fuck no.”
He took a small drag of the joint, coughing a few times, but quickly recovering from it. Kirishima and Sero proudly clapped and cheered on their friend. Shouto took one more hit before passing it back to Sero.
“There you go! How ya feelin’?” Sero asked.
Shouto sat awkwardly in the bean bag chair, eyebrows furrowed as he tried to think. “I feel the same.”
Kirishima chuckled. “Just give it a minute, buddy. You’ll feel it.”
・ 。゚🔥: *.🥓 .* :🔥˚.・
By the time an hour had passed, Shouto was sprawled out in his bean bag chair, neck tilted back as he stared at the party lights dancing along the ceiling. Denki joined the group shortly after Shouto got caught up in this mesmerizing trance and helped Sero and Kirishima finish off the joint. It wasn’t long after this that the party ended and everyone else had retired to their rooms for the night, leaving the four of them alone in the common room. The three boys on the couch were chatting and giggling about things Shouto couldn’t make out. He was completely lost in his own little world. That was, until they started talking about food. This seemed to reach Shouto’s ears and his stomach, which responded with a loud growl.
"Dude, you know what sounds so good right now?" Kirishima said, looking over at Denki and Sero to his right.
"What?" Sero responded curiously.
"Bacon!"
Denki gasped. "OH MY GOD, YES!"
"Do we have any?" Sero asked.
"I think I saw some in the fridge the other day. But the stoves are still broken. Maintenance hasn't fixed them yet,” Kirishima explained with a sigh.
"We could microwave it?" Denki suggested.
Sero scrunched his nose in disgust. "I'll pass on that, thanks."
Kirishima pouted. "Man, I really want bacon…"
"I can cook it," Shouto announced, sitting up in the bean bag too fast and causing his head to spin a little.
Denki jumped at the sound of Shouto’s voice, whipping his head around to look at him. "Woah, dude. How long have you been there?"
Sero rolled his eyes, unfazed. "He's been there the whole time. You're just an unobservant blob."
"I am not an unobservant blob!"
“Guys, shut it! Todoroki, that's nice and all, but like we were saying before, the stoves are still broken, remember?" Kirishima said.
Shouto shook his head. "I don't need that."
"Huh?" A look of confusion spread over Kirishima’s face.
Denki seemed to be the first one to catch on. "Ohhh, you mean you'll use your hot side to cook it?!"
Shouto gave a nod of confirmation. The three boys looked at him curiously as he started to ramble, smirking at the uncharacteristic nature of Shouto’s current behavior, which only appeared more animated now that he was drunk and high.
"I haven't done it in a while, though. My stupid dad won't let me. He's always like ‘SHOUTO! DON'T COOK BACON ON YOUR HOT SIDE! USE A FRYING PAN!’” He lowered his voice and put on his best angry face to fit the impression of his father, slurring over his words and causing the boys to giggle.
“Last time I was caught, I was grounded for a week for ‘behaving dishonorably’. I just don’t get it. What’s so wrong about using what we have been blessed with?”
“A-freakin’-men! Dude, that's so cool! We gotta do it!" Denki said excitedly.
Kirishima looked between everyone, a slight look of hesitation in his eyes that was quickly overtaken by his own curiosity. "Fine. But we gotta be quiet! If we get busted while using a flammable quirk inside the dorms, we'll be in deep shit."
“Chill out, man! It’ll be fine! I’ll check to see if there is any bacon left.” Sero stood from where he was once seated and walked over to the kitchen on the far end of the room behind them.
A couple minutes later, Sero called the three of them over, waving the pack of bacon in the air excitedly. Denki quickly jumped to his feet, followed by Kirishima. Shouto struggled to get out of the bean bag chair. Denki and Kirishima each grabbed one of his arms and hoisted him up, helping him to remain on his feet as he stumbled towards the kitchen. Upon seeing how unsteady Shouto was, they collectively decided it would be best if he wasn’t standing during this experience.
“Kaminari, help me move this stuff off the island. Sero, hold onto Todoroki while we do this,” Kirishima said, letting go of Shouto to grab the plates, cups, and food trays that sat on the island and move them out of the way.
Denki followed suit, grabbing a few leftover cups of punch and turning around to make his way towards the nearby sink. But as he spun around and took a step forward, he found himself nearly colliding into Kirishima, who was headed his way with a large bowl of punch in his arms. Denki’s eyes went wide as the punch splashed back onto Kirishima’s chest before the glass bowl went crashing to the floor, shattering to pieces. The four boys stood there in shock, staring at the floor with mouths hung open.
Sero was the first to break the silence. “So much for being quiet, huh? Do you think anyone heard?”
Denki took a breath to steady his racing heart before speaking. “I don’t know…I mean, it wasn’t that loud, right? Nobody is gonna hear that from their rooms.”
“I don’t know, man. Leave it to Katsuki to hear that shit all the way from the fourth floor. He’s such a light sleeper,” Kirishima remarked. He looked down at his punch-soaked shirt, sighing at the sight.
“Nah, I doubt it. Also, I’m so sorry, dude. I’ll buy you a new shirt sometime to make up for it!” Denki said, looking at Kirishima with guilt in his eyes. Unlike him, he had only a few drops of punch on his clothes from the incident. Kirishima’s white shirt would certainly not recover from the red dye in the punch that had now soaked through the fabric.
Kirishima waved him off. “It’s fine, man. Accidents happen! I didn’t care that much for this shirt, anyway.” He smiled reassuringly at Denki before removing his shirt. “Well, we should probably clean this up now, huh?”
“Sure…But maybe after a little snack? I’m starving!” Denki whined.
The sound of a stomach growling caused the boys’ heads to turn towards Shouto.
Denki chuckled. “Seems like I’m not the only one.”
“Alright. Help me get him up here,” Sero said as he helped Shouto over to the island.
The boys came over to his side, glass crunching beneath their shoes. Together, they managed to get Shouto up onto the island, giggling as they did so. Sero took off his shirt and placed it under Shouto’s head as a pillow. Turning to grab the pack of bacon, he found Denki trying to open it with a chef knife, sticking his tongue out in concentration as he did so. Sero shrugged before looking back at Shouto.
"Dude, take your shirt off. We need to maximize the cooking area."
Shouto complied, and with great struggle, managed to remove his shirt. He tossed it onto the punch-covered floor and flopped back down onto the countertop.
"Uh, is this table flammable?" Denki asked, handing Sero the now opened pack of bacon.
"No, doofus! It's granite! Wait…which is his hot side again?" Kirishima tilted his head as he stared at Shouto.
“Red hair side.” Denki pointed.
“Ohhh, right!”
Sero ignored the other two and decided to strike up a conversation with Shouto as he began placing some of the raw slices on his left arm.
"So, your dad really disapproves of this? What a shame. I think it’s cool you can do this!"
"I know! He won't let me do anything fun! He sucks! I wish I was adopted…" Shouto pouted angrily.
"Man, I feel you. My parents are strict too. They would kill me if they found out I got high on the regular."
"Dude, they totally know,” Kirishima butted into the conversation, an amused smirk on his face.
"What? No they don't!" Sero argued.
Denki laughed. "Yes, they do! You reek of weed all the time! No amount of cologne and incense will cover that up!"
Sero scoffed and rolled his eyes. "Whatever! They haven't said anything, so maybe they haven't noticed."
Denki leaned in towards Kirishima to pretend to whisper to him, but his voice was loud enough for everyone to hear. "Or maybe they just think he naturally smells like a skunk's ass."
Kirishima burst into laughter, along with Denki and even Shouto, who giggled where he laid on the cold countertop.
"Quiet down! Help me finish this up, will you?” Sero tossed the pack of bacon at Kirishima, who nearly dropped it before pulling out a few slices and handing them to Denki.
Their excitement grew along with their giggles as they finished covering most of Shouto’s left side with bacon. All laughter and joy soon came to a halt, though, when a familiar voice sounded through the room, sending chills down all their spines.
"What the hell are you-...The fuck?"
Each one of them froze in place as they whipped their heads towards the owner of the voice, who stood about 5 feet away from them with the most stunned and perplexed look they’d ever seen on him.
"Katsuki, it's not what it looks like!" Kirishima blurted.
"What the fuck do you mean?! I think it's exactly what it looks like!"
"And what's that?" Sero asked with an amused smirk tugging at his lips, not quite convinced Bakugou really knew what they were doing at all, based purely on the look on his face.
This question seemed to throw Bakugou off even more than he already was. His mouth opened and closed a few times before he finally attempted to give an answer.
"You're…You're…"
Bakugou took a closer look at the scene before him. All four boys were shirtless. Shouto sprawled out on the kitchen island, raw bacon strips laid across half of his chest and left arm. A large knife in Denki’s hand. The floor covered in red liquid, shattered glass, and the boys’ shirts.
It looked like a goddamn crime scene. What kind of crime? He had no idea. For a rare moment in his life, he was rendered completely speechless. It took him another solid minute to muster up the ability to speak again.
"I...What the fuck are you doing to Icy-Hot?! And why are you all shirtless?!"
"He spilt punch on me." Kirishima pointed to Denki like a child tattling on their sibling.
Sero shrugged. "I was hot."
"I didn't wanna feel left out,” Denki confessed, looking away feeling slightly embarrassed.
Bakugou pinched the bridge of his nose and took a deep breath, trying to ground himself amongst the group of intoxicated idiots.
"You still haven't told me what exactly you're doing to Icy-Hot…" He spoke in an exasperated voice through gritted teeth.
Denki answered his question simply. "We're just cooking bacon on his hot side! No biggie!"
"Yeah, don't worry, bestie. I'm fine…" Shouto lifted his head up slightly to lock eyes with Bakugou, who seemed quite the opposite of relieved upon hearing his words.
Bakugou growled angrily, any semblance of control over his temper now out the window. "How many times do I have to tell you to STOP calling me that?! And you! Stop waving that knife around! Give it to me!"
He stepped towards Denki and snatched the knife out of his hand, setting it on the counter opposite of the Island Shouto was lying on.
Kirishima held his finger up to his lips. "Shhhh! You're gonna wake everyone up within a mile radius and get us all in trouble!"
Bakugou scoffed. "Not me! I had nothing to do with this!"
"You're a witness! And you just touched the knife that was used for this act, which also makes you an accomplice," Sero said, pointing at the knife.
"What?! That's not how-"
"Yeah, what he said! You're just as guilty as us! So you better keep that big mouth shut!" Denki said, immediately regretting the words that came out of his mouth when he saw a vision of his own death flash through Bakugou’s eyes.
"Tell me what to do one more time and I'll-”
Shouto groaned, interrupting Bakugou with his next words. "Guys, stop fighting! Bakugou, you sound just like my dad. You're better than him. Stop this.” A couple of bacon strips fell off of him as he sat up to address Bakugou with a serious look in his eyes.
"Yeah, come on, man! Let us do this! You don't have to do anything! Just go to bed and pretend you never saw this!" Kirishima said.
Bakugou looked at Kirishima like he’d gone insane. "No! You guys obviously can't be trusted alone right now! You'll burn the dorms down or something!"
Shouto pointed a finger at him with a frown on his face. "Hey! Don't poop at our party!"
"What?" Bakugou stared at Shouto, completely dumbfounded.
"Uh…I think he means ‘don't be a party pooper’. Pretty sure he just learned that earlier today," Kirishima explained.
"My dad is a party pooper! He poops on everything! He's a life pooper! Don't be like him, bestie!" Shouto implored. Bakugou simply blinked at him, once again rendered speechless by the ridiculousness he had been subjected to thus far.
"Yeah! Come on! Live a little, Bakugou! Don't you wanna see Todoroki cook this bacon on his hot side?" Denki asked, pointing to the bacon on Shouto’s chest.
"No! Because I'm not a freak like the rest of you!" Bakugou barked.
Denki nodded casually, placing a hand on Shouto and slowly pushing him back down onto the countertop as he kept eye contact with Bakugou. "Sure, sure. Well, it's happening whether you like it or not. Todoroki, now!"
Shouto tensed at these sudden orders, but obeyed nonetheless, a strained look on his face as he quickly activated his quirk. The surrounding boys jumped back as large flames extended towards them.
"Dude! Tone it down! It's too much!" Kirishima said, raising his voice slightly.
The flames went out as Shouto deactivated his quirk. He let out a sigh.
"Sorry...It's harder to control right now, for some reason…"
"Hmph, I wonder why." Bakugou rolled his eyes and crossed his arms. “This is exactly why you idiots shouldn’t be doing this!”
The boys ignored Bakugou as Sero inspected the bacon on Shouto’s body. "Thankfully, most of the pieces are okay. Let's try again."
"Whenever you're ready, Todoroki!" Denki gave him a thumbs up and Shouto gave him one in return.
Shouto closed his eyes and focused on his quirk. Everyone waited in silent anticipation for a solid minute, until finally, the sizzling began.
Denki gasped. "Oh my god! He's doing it!"
Sero smiled widely at the sight. "Yes! You got this, dude! Keep it steady, now..."
"Fucking hell, this feels like a goddamn fever dream…” Bakugou muttered to himself as he stared at the scene before him.
"You can leave, Katsuki. We promise we won't burn the place down. I'll keep an eye on things,” Kirishima reassured him, but his attempt seemed to fall on deaf ears.
"Pfft! As if I can even trust you right now! I'll keep an eye on things."
While it was true that Bakugou was sticking around to keep an eye on them and make sure they didn’t do anything too stupid, he would be lying if he claimed curiosity hadn’t gotten the best of him too. He hated himself for it, but he couldn’t help but feel somewhat fascinated by the way the bacon was cooking on Shouto’s skin.
After another minute or so, the bacon was finally cooked. Denki, Sero, and Kirishima immediately took a piece of their own to try. Shouto smiled as he grabbed a piece from his chest and ate it, his stomach finally happy now that it was being fed.
“Here you go!” Kirishima offered Bakugou a piece, only to have him flinch away from it in disgust.
“I’m not eating that shit! It’s unsanitary!”
Kirishima shrugged with a smile, an amused chuckle escaping his lips. “Whatever. More for us!”
Denki, Sero, Kirishima, and Shouto touched their pieces of bacon together like some sort of “cheers” to what they had accomplished together before eating them. Denki, Sero, and Kirishima’s faces morphed into an expression of pure rapture as they eagerly consumed their treat.
“Dude! This is the best bacon I’ve ever had!” Kirishima exclaimed, talking with his mouth full as he chomped down on another piece.
Denki nodded aggressively. “Me too!”
“It must be something about the way his quirk cooks it that makes it taste better!” Sero said, eyes shining with pure joy and amazement.
Bakugou scoffed. "Yeah, right! It’s just regular bacon. Nothing about the way it was cooked is going to change the flavor that much! You drunk and high bastards would think dirt tastes good right now!"
Bakugou instantly regretted bringing this up as he watched a lightbulb go off in all of their heads before they turned to one another with serious looks on their faces, talking in slightly hushed voices with mouths full of bacon.
"Should we try it?" Denki asked, a daring smirk tugging at his lips as he casually swiped another piece of bacon off of Shouto’s chest without looking and took a bite from it. Shouto laid on the counter in happy silence as he crunched on his own.
Kirishima looked between Sero and Denki with hesitation in his eyes. "I don't know, guys…"
"Come on! Aren’t we doing the whole ‘yes, and’ thing tonight? I've always been curious to try it!" Denki pouted.
"Why haven't you?” Sero asked.
"I was scared."
Sero and Kirishima’s chewing stopped as a look of bewilderment spread across their faces. They both responded in unison. "Scared?"
"There might be bugs in it!" Denki said, voice raising above a hushed tone.
Bakugou growled. "Oh my god, shut up! You're not gonna eat dirt!"
The boys once again turned their heads toward Bakugou. Kirishima put his hand up.
"For the record, I wasn't going to do it."
"Coward,” Denki muttered, shooting him a glare.
Kirishima gasped, snapping his head to Denki with his mouth slightly agape.
"I wanna eat dirt!" Shouto yelled, trying to sit up on the kitchen island.
Sero jumped into action, placing a hand onto Shouto’s shoulder to stop him. "Wait, hold on! One more round! Please?"
“No! You idiots a-”
Bakugou’s protests were interrupted and ignored as the other boys focused their attention on Shouto once more.
"Yeah, please? I wanna see it again!" Denki pleaded, giving Shouto his best puppy dog eyes.
Shouto sighed. "Okay…"
He flopped back down onto the island and the boys immediately got back to work, placing more raw bacon strips on the left side of his body while Shouto giggled about how cold it felt against his hot skin. Bakugou cringed uncomfortably at the sight, yet he couldn’t seem to tear his eyes away. He had never been so painfully aware of how sober he was than he did in this moment.
Sero stepped back with his hands in the air as if he was stepping away from a delicate masterpiece he had just finished creating. “Okay! Ready!”
They all went silent again to allow Shouto to concentrate as they watched him closely. Since Shouto was warmed up from before, it didn’t take as long for the sizzling to begin. Denki, Sero, and Kirishima looked as excited as kids on Christmas morning as they watched the bacon cook before their very eyes. Bakugou, while not nearly as excited as them, was still watching with some level of intrigue as he stood there with his arms crossed. All of them were so focused on this that they didn’t even notice someone had walked through the front door.
The sizzling stopped.
“Wait, don’t stop! The bacon’s not done yet!” Denki said.
“Did you get tired?” Sero asked.
Shouto shook his head, eyes furrowed in confusion as he tried to activate his quirk again, to no avail.
“Uh…guys?” Kirishima’s voice was quiet and unsteady. Sero, Denki, and Bakugou followed his gaze until their eyes landed on what exactly had him so shaken.
The chill down their spines that they felt when Bakugou entered the room was no match against the one they felt when they saw their homeroom teacher staring at them, menacing eyes glowing red and hair floating around him as he stared at Shouto. Even though he wasn’t looking directly at the rest of them, they could feel him viewing them in his peripherals, and that was enough to make their stomachs drop to the floor.
Aizawa stopped his quirk, tearing his eyes away from Shouto in order to take in the full scene before him. His face remained relatively neutral, as usual, but his eyes flashed with various emotions, most predominantly confusion, as he scanned the room and the people in it. He looked entirely confounded, rendered completely speechless. Bakugou knew the feeling…
None of the boys dared to speak a word, and instead simply stared back at him, frozen like deer in headlights. After a minute or so—which felt like a millennium to the poor boys facing the scrutinous gaze of their teacher—Aizawa finally spoke.
“What exactly am I looking at here?”
Everyone began talking at once, including Shouto, who rambled on nonsense about his dad in the middle of the other boys trying desperately to explain themselves. Bakugou shook his head and ran a frustrated hand over his face.
“Silence!” Aizawa ordered. The room immediately went quiet. Aizawa moved his attention to the only other fully clothed person in the room, standing the furthest away from the scene.
“Bakugou. What happened?”
Bakugou glanced at the boys, who looked away in defeat, as they knew they were beyond screwed at this point. He sighed and begrudgingly told Aizawa the truth of everything that happened that night.
Aizawa stared at Bakugou as he processed this information, before looking between all of them with disappointment written on his face.
“You know the rules. And yet, you’ve broken multiple in just one night alone. What kind of heroes do you stand to become if you can’t follow simple rules?” he scolded. The boys averted their eyes in shame. Aizawa’s icy gaze did not let up as he continued speaking.
“We’ll discuss your consequences tomorrow with the rest of the class. For now, you need to go to your rooms.”
“But, uh…Mr. Aizawa? What about the mess?” Kirishima asked nervously.
Aizawa glanced around the room once more and let out an exasperated sigh. “Tomorrow.”
Sero helped Shouto stand up from the table, bacon falling off his chest and shoulder and dropping to the floor as he steadied him. Bakugou, Kirishima, and Denki shuffled out of the common room towards the elevator as Aizawa placed a hand on Sero’s shoulder.
“I got him. Go to your room.”
Sero nodded and quickly scurried out of Aizawa’s sight.
Aizawa scrunched up his nose slightly in disgust as he reached out and peeled a stray piece of bacon off of Shouto’s chest and tossed it to the floor with the rest of them. Shouto slowly looked up at Aizawa and smiled.
“Are you okay?” Aizawa asked, a look of concern on his face as he watched Shouto wobble unsteadily where he stood.
Shouto nodded. “I had fun today.”
Trying to hold back the tiny smirk that tugged at his lips, Aizawa asked him another question. “Can you walk on your own?”
Shouto paused, deep in thought for a moment. “The floor is moving.”
Aizawa sighed, taking that as an obvious “no”, and bent down slightly to put Shouto’s arm around his neck. After an arduous journey to the elevator and onto the correct floor, he managed to get Shouto to his room. He almost left him there in front of his room, but after walking a few feet away and not hearing the door opening and closing, he turned to find Shouto staring at the door and tugging at the handle, like he had forgotten how to open it.
It was at this moment that Aizawa really wondered how he had gotten to this point. Since when did being a teacher turn into a full-time babysitting job? After helping Shouto into his room, he got him a glass of water before trying to get him to go to bed. To which, Shouto was having none of it.
“No! I’m not tired! I can do what I want!”
Aizawa knew Shouto was going through some kind of rebellious phase the moment he walked into homeroom last week without his uniform tie on, nor his uniform ironed. Shouto was always put together perfectly every day, so while not very concerning to those who didn’t know him, to Aizawa and the rest of his students, it was pretty alarming. That day, Aizawa casually watched in his peripherals as Bakugou accused him of stealing his style. Shouto merely responded with a scoff and a roll of his eyes before opening his notebook and scribbling drawings inside of it. Aizawa later managed to get a peek at those drawings when Shouto wasn’t looking. They were all scribbles and doodles about his dad.
Aizawa immediately recognized this as a cry for help. But what was he to do? He was just his teacher, after all. Even so, that didn’t mean his paternal instincts didn’t wish to help the poor kid however he could.
After bribing Shouto with a bedtime story if he got into bed and closed his eyes, he finally managed to get him to cooperate. Shouto yawned as Aizawa started to tell the story. Before he could even finish saying “once upon a time,” Shouto was fast asleep, soft snores passing through his open mouth.
Aizawa stood quietly, trying not to stir Shouto awake as he carefully made his way towards the door. He froze after only a couple of steps at the sound of Shouto’s voice, mumbling something in his sleep.
“Fuck you, dad…”

*Later That Night...*
Aizawa stepped through the front door of his home with bleary eyes and hunched shoulders, dropping his keys on the table by the door and taking his shoes off. The sound of his husband’s voice echoed through the house as he was sliding his feet into his slippers.
“Honey, is that you?”
“Yes, I’m home,” Aizawa muttered tiredly as he walked towards the bedroom. There he found Hizashi in bed, wearing his pajamas and his hair in a messy bun, his back leaned against the headboard and a book rested on his lap. He looked up at Aizawa above the reading glasses perched on the bridge of his nose.
“Damn, you look rough. What kind of mess did those kids get into this time? Was it really a party like the mysterious snitch said?” Hizashi asked, eyebrows raised and a slightly amused smirk on his face. Behind all of this was a soft look of concern in his eyes as he took in the sight of his exhausted partner.
Aizawa had been working all day, grading papers and filing paperwork, when he suddenly got a late night call from an unknown number, informing him of some sort of disturbance happening at the dorm of Class 1-A. Aizawa knew for a fact who it was, despite the caller trying to mask their voice. It was Monoma from Class 1-B. How he got Aizawa’s personal number, he had no idea. But that seemed to be the least of his worries at the time.
After checking the camera footage for the dorm, he found that everything seemed to be just fine. But something in his gut told him to check up on things anyway, so he followed his instincts and left to do just that.
Part of Aizawa wishes he’d never stepped foot in that dorm at all. He was dreading the paperwork he’d inevitably have to fill out for this incident.
“So? What happened?” Hizashi asked again as he set his book aside and placed his hand over Aizawa’s, softly tracing his fingers.
Aizawa looked around, confused at how he was now sitting in bed when he was just standing moments ago. He sighed. He was so tired that he was starting to black out. He felt just like Shouto, except he was simply drunk from exhaustion alone. On top of that, he was still trying to process what he had witnessed earlier. Never in his life had he seen anything like what he’d walked in on earlier. Somehow, he was left feeling embarrassed for having interrupted whatever it was that they were doing. He still had so many questions and so few answers.
“Cooking bacon on his hot side…” Aizawa mumbled, eyebrows furrowed in bewilderment as he stared off at the wall ahead of him.
“Say what now?”
Aizawa turned his head to Hizashi. “They were using Todoroki’s quirk to cook bacon on his hot side.”
Hizashi stared blankly at Aizawa for long enough that Aizawa jumped when he suddenly burst into a fit of laughter.
“What in the world are you talking about? You mean the hot and cold kid?” Hizashi asked after his laughter had settled a bit.
Aizawa nodded, sending Hizashi into a further fit of laughter. The perplexed look on Aizawa’s face was only egging his laughter on even more.
“Tell me everything. PLEASE!”
Aizawa sighed and told him the whole story, including the details of what Bakugou explained to him. By the end of it, Hizashi was on the floor, clutching his stomach as laughter echoed throughout the room. Aizawa couldn’t help but chuckle at the sight, and as things began to finally settle within him, he began to join Hizashi in his laughter, until suddenly he too was on the floor, laughing uncontrollably beside him.
“What…” Hizashi began laughing again as he tried to sit up against the side of the bed beside Aizawa. “What are you gonna do with them?”
Aizawa chuckled. “I have no fucking clue. I have to figure something out before tomorrow morning, though.”
Hizashi’s smile turned mischievous as he looked at Aizawa, wiggling his eyebrows. “I have some ideas…”
“No.”
“Come on! You know I can give them the punishment of a lifetime! They’ll never even think about breaking the rules ever again!”
Aizawa paused in thought for a moment. “Maybe.”
“YES!” Hizashi pumped his fist in the air.
If Aizawa wasn’t so exhausted, he’d roll his eyes. “I said ‘maybe’. Don’t get your hopes up.”
Hizashi smiled, letting out a wistful sigh as he leaned his head against Aizawa’s shoulder. “Remember when we were their age? The parties, the fun? Getting caught and being punished by our superiors? Good times…”
“I wouldn’t say the punishments were ‘good’, by any means. I only ever got in trouble because of you. I didn’t even wish to attend most of those parties,” Aizawa muttered, yawning as he rested his head against Hizashi’s.
“Still…looking back, I miss it all. It’s kind of sweet seeing these kids doing the same stupid things we did.”
Aizawa scoffed. “We certainly were not doing whatever I walked into tonight.”
“Maybe nothing that weird, but our class definitely did some strange shit too. Remember that time with-“
“Don’t remind me.”
Hizashi chuckled. “Ah! So, you do remember then, huh? I thought you said you forgot because you were so drunk. Liarrr…” He ended his sentence in a drawn out, singsong voice.
“Oh, I remember. Too clearly,” Aizawa grumbled.
Hizashi laughed and continued to ramble on until he eventually heard the sound of his husband’s soft snores, paired with the weight of his head growing heavier atop his. He glanced up at him, a fond smile tugging at his lips. With little struggle, he managed to get Aizawa into bed without waking him completely. Hizashi was used to having to drag or carry Aizawa to bed most nights; it almost felt like routine at this point.
He couldn’t help but smile at his sleeping form. Leaning in, he pressed a kiss to his forehead before turning off the lights and snuggling up beside him. The last thing he did was giggle quietly to himself before whispering into his ear.
“Sleep well, honey. You’re gonna need it.”

anyway while i was in Time Out writing android shouto fic, i had some very kirishima ex machina-esque thoughts.
eijirou works at some esteemed, todoroki-owened programming company, along with kaminari and bakugou and izuku and—the ceo's son himself. and he and shouto aren't super close, but they have enough mutual friends that they chat, every now and then, and a few months go by before shouto gives him the odd invitation out to his private lake house, to check out what he's been working on.
and eijirou is a nice guy ! won't turn down the opportunity to hang with a bro ! so he goes and—it's very private, out in the middle of nowhere, expensive and minimalistic and full of floor-to-cieling glass windows and smart home features.
shouto gives him a very basic, vague rundown on what he's been doing with ai. how he's been testing it, the results he's come up with, how he needs help figuring out a few more things. and then he puts him in a room with you.
the thing that gets me with this au is that—he's so empathetic. it doesn't matter if he can see that you're literally wires and metal plating with a constructed face 🥺 he asks you about your day and you answer very plainly and listen to him when he talks and smile at a joke he tells, you even laugh, and tell him it's the first time you think you've done so.
and he falls so headfirst. so quickly. nothing against todoroki but you make a stray comment about wanting to see the sunlight and he's laying awake at night trying to figure out how he's gonna get you out 🥺
