#SundayGratitude / Celebration, Celebration!
Thank you for stopping by and being part of my weekly series #SundayGratitude. As I am striving for balance through gratitude and more mindful living, I came to create this weekly blog series that is not only meant to help me reflect upon what I can be thankful for, but hopefully inspires you to turn inward, also, and actively remember a few things that happened this week that you can be grateful for. Oftentimes, it’s the littlest of things, but the most valuable ones.
Hello, folks! I hope you all had a good weekend - or are still enjoying a rather long 4th of July weekend at this point. As you can see, Rocco is ready for some fun in the sun, wearing his stars and stripes collar proudly.
As much of a rollercoaster the past week might have been, especially the last few days were all about celebration of different kinds, when I think about it.
My granny seems to feel better again and will hopefully be released soon. I am so thankful for that. Being here and not having the opportunity to be there for her in person is hard. But I could not be more thankful for my family and all they do. And so it happened that me and my mom were on the phone on Wednesday for at least two hours. It was so needed. It usually puts a lot of things into perspective.
The week then continued with yoga, a facial and a massage, and thus my very personal celebration of my body, mind and soul. Treating myself every once in a while is so important. The appointments all happened to be this week. I am always happy to share special treatments with my good friend Chelsea, who I rarely get to see these days, as she is traveling a lot for work. But when she is in town, we make the most of the time.
I also got to hang out with J. from the gym. She moved here a few months ago and is only living a few blocks down from where Rickey and I are here in Ocean Beach. I guess you could call it a getting-to-know-each-other-better-over-wine celebration that we had at my house.
That’s just large enough of a glass for me. Haha.
Saturday, Rickey and I met up with C., her significant other and a few friends of hers at one of the many breweries here in San Diego to toast to a new year of her life. It was nice to have lunch and hang out with a few new people. I cannot get over how good this one craft beer called Calm Before the Storm, was. It legit tasted like coffee. We had a good time.
This weekend also kicked off the 4th of July festivities. America’s birthday is just around the corner and many people, if any possible, take this upcoming Monday off to make this a long weekend of BBQing, hanging out at the beach, and, well, drinking (just goes well with the burger).
My mom got me this scarf a while ago; Saturday was the perfect occasion to wear it.
My better half surprised me with date night on Saturday evening and took me down to the harbor, to the Summer Pops 4th of July San Diego Symphony Concert. This is where everything pretty much began and will most likely end, haha. I am grateful that we share the same interests. We undoubtedly got our dose of patriotism in style; the concert was amazing.
So many things to celebrate in one! Quite overwhelming, when you ask me, but it sure made (or still makes) for a lot of happy hormones.
I am grateful to be (still a guest at this point) in this country and experience those special holidays.
I woke up not feeling well this morning. However, we did go to the gym as this usually helps. Sure enough, the workouts on the agenda were actually good. It started off with 20 mins determining a new deadlift PR. Long story short: I hadn’t lifted real heavy, let alone deadlifted, for months because of my back but everything felt good today. I pulled, I had 225 lb on the bar - I knocked out a 25 lb PR. Yay! A little personal accomplishment today.
After Sunday Funday at the gym, we headed over to OB Brewery with a few Humanitarians to say goodbye to one of our members, Jess, and ultimately celebrate the beginning of her new chapter on the east coast.
I am thankful I got to be part of those moments this past week. Shall we never stop celebrating life and what it throws at us. Cheers.
Be well.
What are you grateful for today?
