as i like to say, it's like lifting an anvil: it's very simple, but that doesn't mean it's easy. as someone who's a 12+ year veteran that lurked for a couple years and remade a little while ago, really it all comes down to putting yourself out there!!! don't just sit around twiddling your thumbs and lurking. it's tough to do it without coming off as a pandering tryhard, but honestly as long as you're polite, upbeat, and posting regularly, then you're golden.

if you want a big list of wordy bullet points, here's what i've got, and i think you'll find it's pretty applicable to basically any site/community you want to get involved in:

post a lot. this is number one with a fucking bullet! POST! POST LIKE YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT. but crucially...

post GOOD STUFF. don't bash yourself in the caption/tags, don't say "sorry this is shit" or whatever, don't self-deprecate, and don't admit to posting low-effort stuff just to hit a quota. imagine it's open mic night and go crazy. this is a good site to use like a journal and a scrapbook, but if you want to actually get some traction, you need to bring something interesting to the table. of course, just being funny and nice goes a very long way.

encourage audience feedback. people LOVE to tell you about themselves and give their opinions. get them responding and make the questions and calls for engagement so interesting or fun they can't help themselves.

tag effectively. use both fandom/content tags for searches, and organizational tags for your visitors' use. the tagging system is tumblr's bread and butter, so make it work for you.

follow a lot of blogs you like. then see who they follow, and add those to the list. build a good circle of engagement and keep your finger on the pulse of the site culture for whatever niche(s) you're in... or want to get in.

reblog a lot and be funny/kind in the tags. generally leaving a lot of comments/replies to post is kind of hit-or-miss, but tags are a good harmless "inside voice" to use that doesn't clutter the post itself and yet still engages with op and people seeing the post

engage with people when they ask for engagement. things like polls, ask games, etc... scratch people's backs and they'll scratch yours. and it's just a nice thing to do regardless :)

panhandling is not always the best route. people will balk if you look desperate or openly beg for engagement, like directly asking people to reblog something or being passive-aggressive about how much engagement you are/aren't getting on something. a genuine joke about it is fun and relatable, but snarky comments just kill the vibe and scare people off.

REMEMBER THERE'S NO ALGORITHM. lurking will not put you or any of the stuff you like out there!! REBLOG POSTS! SEND ASKS! this site will NOT SPOON FEED YOU ANYTHING. like taming a wild stallion, you can make this work for you, but you have to put in the effort first.

some people will think you're annoying, and that's okay. probably not very many, but they'll be loud. this is an unavoidable part of Being Known. you can be the sweetest peach in the world but there'll still be people who just don't like peaches. don't take it to heart, and if you do happen to drop the ball or rub a few people the wrong way, don't let that keep you from trying again :)

The Poisoned Peach: ATL by Night - my actual VTM game I'm playing with my husband. It follows Khloe Osborne, a fresh Thinblood trying to navigate the vampire world without really knowing anything. She has a coterie and the Camarilla currently runs Atlanta, Georgia... but for how long?

Wilted Roses - The overarching full canon to the plot of our World of Darkness. This is a mixed bag of information and stories that aren't necessarily in a Chronicle but flavor the world! Nyth and Noa are probably the stars of this overall story.

What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

You know what, this is kinda hard to pick because I write some MISERABLE stuff. Just check my 'Sad Ending' tagged works.

Maybe my latest fic, 'Reunion'. Most of my sad fics are sad because they end with one or both of the pairing dying, but in this one they're dead from the start and the fic's about their autopsy.

What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?

I have a lot of these too! I like writing established relationship fics, especially post-canon ones for Dorohedoro. I'll pick 'According to Plan', because Dokuga and Tetsujo not only get their happy ending, but this is the one where they have the easiest access to antidote for Dokuga's poison (for kissing).

Do you write crossovers?

No but I think a Dorohedoro x Dungeon Meshi crossover would be fun!

Tetsujo/Dokuga from Dorohedoro. I call them my forever OTP. I'm obsessed with them and I love them with my whole entire heart. Close second is Bandana/Uruha from Kagurabachi.

What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

My Dorohedoro longfic. I have an outline for it but haven't written it. I'd love to one day! But longfics are hard.

What are your writing strengths?

Dialogue and characterisation probably.

What are your writing weaknesses?

Prose. I really want to be one of those writers who can put together beautiful sentences that have people thinking, 'I wish I wrote that'.

Sometimes? I've gotten really bad about it :( After an update/new fic I try to get all the comments that come in over a week or so... but then I retreat into my cave and giggle and squee over them in private.

I haven't written a crossover since I was writing for spn and none of them ever made it out of my wips folder lol I had spn crossovers with Firefly, Teen Wolf, The 100, Criminal Minds, and (naturally) The Hunger Games. Man, I miss that. Such a versatile show.

I don't really do angsty endings lol I think the closest I've gotten is Lay Me Down - 8k destiel major character death--lowest kudosed fic out of all 42 lmao

This is an impossible question. I am like the queen of happy endings? You want me to rank them??? Fine, it's You're Freaking Out. Best 10k epilogue in the land. Oh hey also I just noticed it has 997 kudos. May I humbly request 3 more pretty please?

8. Do you get hate on fics?

No. Closest was when someone complained on one of my destiel fics about the grocery store not having plastic bags and needing a quarter in order to obtain a cart. I specifically remember they said, "I hate when writers do this," and went on to complain about us making up obviously fake stuff that pulls them out of the story. Like, first of all you're complaining about storytellers making stuff up ??? okay. And second, it was an Aldi. A real grocery store. That I didn't make up.

I had to take a day to cool off before I responded and then they were like oh yeah, my roommate told me when I complained to them, you responded to this really nicely though! WHICH folks LET ME TELL YOU made me angrier lol Like you found out you were wrong and didn't even come back to edit/delete/apologize for your comment???

Anyway after that I internalized that you don't know what kind of lived experience your commenters have so some comments should be taken with a grain of salt. Which is a double-edged sword bc sometimes I get really nice enthusiastic comments and read it like, okay but what if this person is 12 and read it at 2am in a fit of delirium and this is their first fic ever and it's actually not as good as they think haha

I doooo. I haven't published any since I wrote for spn but I have a parkner pwp ready to go as soon as I muster up the nerve.

I have no idea how to interpret the question "what kind" lol uhhh the hot kind? pffft

I have but I never published them. Again, these were for spn which is hella fun to play with merging into other canon. I started but never finished spn crossovers with Firefly, The 100, The Hunger Games, Criminal Minds, Agents of Shield, and Teen Wolf. I think that's all of them. I've been thinking about putting all of my abandoned wips on AO3 for archive purposes, but idk still noodling on it. I wish there way a way I could elect to post without notifying my subscribers :/ Or at least send them a message warning them that I'm about to be incredibly annoying

And Faaayeee42 on AO3 translated Paradise (spread out with a butter knife) to Mandarin Chinese.

Nope! Done some brainstorming a few times but nothing that has evolved into actually writing out a shared thing. Not sure I'd be any good at it tbh. I'd probably be a very frustrating writing partner.

My Infinity War time travel fix it (make it worse) fic 😔 It's got so much potential but it is perpetually at the bottom of the to-do list.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

Eh. It's fanfiction, you know? Do what you want. Experiment. Try your best to do it justice. Accept that some people are going to let their eyes blur and skim over it while others will pick it apart but most will exist somewhere in the middle. Just write what you want to write, how you want to write it.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

*sigh* Harry Potter. Looking forward to my own post getting gobbled up by my block list lmao

20. Favorite fic you've written?

Goodness gracious how do I even decide? I think Peaches Ain't Pretty is my favorite. It's the fic that showed me beyond a shadow of a doubt that I can step outside of fanfiction and write whatever I want and be just as satisfied, if not more.

Anything that demonizes Mario for the sake of 1.) hooking Peach up with someone else (y'all fuckers really don't think a guy and a girl can still be friends after being love interests?? Especially MARIO WITH PEACH???) and/or 2.) making Luigi look better/more sympathetic.

I think one of the most infuriating ones I ever read was a Bowuigi fic with the Good Brother Mario tag that portrayed him as inconsiderate, cowardly, and insufferable, totally incapable of doing anything without Luigi there to pull strings, and the "good brother" part only comes in because Luigi gets his Big Awesome Moment of telling him off near the end and talking about how Bowser loves and supports him so much more than Mario ever did, and Mario begrudgingly accepts that, if Luigi's happy, then he's happy... while making it clear that he's still really not happy at all.

Shit like that. Don't do shit like that. (It was especially sad, because it had the best sex scene I've ever read in a Bowuigi fic, and I admittedly read a lot in my early days in the fandom...)

I'm... I'm so sorry. I just don't can't be part of the Geno hype. I went into the SMRPG remake back in November fully expecting and hoping to fall in love with him, and I do like him! He's fun! But my feelings for him don't go beyond "Ah! Cool dude." He is, however, my heaviest hitter in battle, so I would never dare speak ill of him. 😂

Ah! Here's one I know I haven't shared! Peach loves how rugged and manly and handsome her husband is... and she also loves the sight of him in a dress. And lace lingerie, but that's for another post. She especially loves how strapless dresses accentuate his broad shoulders and strong arms, but she sees him in any dress and she's full-on heart-eyes. Mario, unlike his brother, doesn't actively look to wear women's clothes, but he's always happy to indulge his wife 😌

4. A story idea you haven't written yet

There are a couple of ideas I've written in my side blog:

The third entry in my Pauline series in which she has an intimate conversation with Mario about what he thinks about Peach. I've been meaning to get back to that one but keep getting sidetracked. 😅 Hopefully, I'll be able to after I finish my current WIP.

A Legend of Zelda BOTW fic in which Urbosa talks to Zelda about her conflicting feelings towards Link after he was assigned to be her personal knight. I don't know if I'll fully write this one out, however.

With that said, an idea that I haven't written yet is a Smash story centered around Little Mac feeling out of place as a normal boxer compared to the other fighters who have all of these cool powers and abilities. I don't know I would approach it just yet since I haven't played a lot of Smash. Therefore, this one will be quite a way down the road if I ever get to it.

10. What is the longest amount of time you've let a draft rest before you finished it?

A little over four months, which was the time length I posted Chapter Two of To The Tea. I posted the first chapter on AO3 in February 2024 but didn't post the second until late June/early July 2024. I started on the second chapter of that fic but was was distracted by video games and other things and therefore didn't do a lot of writing or editing in that time frame. 😂 Since then, I've vowed not to take as long in between drafts and chapters.

25. Besides writing, what are your other hobbies?

The obvious one is video games; otherwise, I wouldn't be as engrossed in the Mario fandom as much as I am. 😂 Other hobbies include music (listening and playing), baking, sudoku, and crossword puzzles. Another one I'm big in is sports, especially American football. I'm really looking forward to the season starting on Thursday.

29. How easy is it for you to come up with titles?

To be honest, this is probably the hardest section for me in the writing process besides tags. I usually come up with the plot and write for a while before even considering a title. It's one area I know I need a lot of improvement on. I cringe at some of my fics' titles and want to change them; however, I risk confusing those who've followed and read my fics and hence leave them as it is. 😂

gone skiing? no i am scared of the snow since learning about crevasses in year 4 and almost falling off a ski lift at a very young age. i do love the cold and the ski lodge episode of gmw though.
