i very much dislike the ‘angel turned bad’ approach to his character because angel was forced to be good, his soul being forced upon him. angel was forced to be good.

he know faces the guilt of his actions; he didn’t choose to become a better person it was forced upon him as punishment. it wasn’t earned.

at least in btvs when he loses his soul again he has no problem with remaining a terrible person, he doesn’t want to go back to feeling guilty for being an awful person
