So, uh, I get the general vibe that people are expecting a new chapter for Misfits on Christmas. Honestly, I was also hoping that I would be able to update on Crisis. Unfortunately, the chapter is not even close to being ready to be posted. I'm really sorry. (Combo of busy irl, writers block, and a new hyperfixation grabbing me by the throat.)
However! As a holiday treat, I do have a snippet from the next chapter of Misfits. Spoilers under the cut!
----
People Who Might Be Persuaded To Wind Ingo Up; a numbered list:
1. Emmet
I cannot ask Emmet, he gave a very clear no, as is his right. He seemed extremely distressed by the prospect and I don’t want to upset him further. There’s no need to burden him with my problems.
2. General North
I know that if I asked him he would oblige me, as he has done so in the past. After the entirety of the Taffy Battalion rebuffed me he came to my aid. However, this also caused him to reassign me to the Pine Battalion, effective immediately, because if they refused assist me with basic maintenance then our working relationship had clearly deteriorated beyond repair. He would not listen when I tried to persuade him otherwise.
I cannot risk him removing me from Gear Battalion. Do not approach under any circumstances.
3. Whoever it is that helps Emmet?
It doesn’t make any sense. Who winds Emmet up? He’s been working on his own for quite some time, and he doesn’t appear to have any friends. General North? It can’t be, Emmet hates him. Besides, if he asked the General now he would simply redirect him to me, or worse. There must be something I’m missing.
I can’t ask Emmet directly, but perhaps there is some other way to find out?
4. The fairy floss spiders
I talked to Emmet’s spiders about my dilemma and they were very good listeners. I had a far fetched and rather outrageous theory that Emmet might have trained them to wind him up. In my defence, they are the only living beings Emmet has a positive relationship with. Further thought proved that this was an even more ludicrous idea than first assumed, as they are too small and lightweight to physically turn a key, even if a whole cluster of them worked together. It is possible that exhaustion is making me slightly delirious.
It was not a complete waste as I feel better after putting my thoughts into words. Additionally, spending time with the spiders always puts me in a positive mood.
Update: a cluster of them worked together to drag a candy cane to me. They must have misunderstood my worries about running out of energy for me being hungry, not understanding that I don’t need to eat like they do. All the same, it was extremely sweet of them to try to help me and it’s a gift I will treasure.
5. Donner
Even when we were in the same battalion our relationship was transactional in nature. If I did a chore for him, such as cleaning or moving cargo, he would return the favour and assist me with maintenance. I have not spoken to him since my removal from his battalion. Although we parted ways on a sour note, he might still be willing to aid me if I offer my services.
Update: He refused. He laughed at me.
6. Captain Jawbreaker
Previously, he gave me an ultimatum: no member of the battalion would wind me up unless I smiled convincingly beforehand. At the time I was unable to. If this ultimatum is still in effect, perhaps it works in the reverse as well.
Update: I’ve tried in front of a mirror and I was unable to produce anything that Captain Jawbreaker would be satisfied with. Since my removal from the Taffy Battalion I have not been practicing as frequently and upon joining Gear Battalion I stoped completely. It’s noticeable. I’m terribly rusty.
Update: I can’t do it. My more recent attempts would be more likely to elicit a punishment than a reward. My cheeks hurt.
Update: I still can’t do it, I wouldn’t be able to even if I had days to improve and I don’t have days. I shouldn’t be wasting my time trying but I don’t know what else to do.
Update: I can’t
7. ???
I don’t know, I don’t know, I don’t know, who else is there? Everyone hates me. Everyone hates me. I can’t even bring myself to try pleading with more of my former squad members I already know they’ll say no they don’t like me no one does
I’m running out of time
8. Emmet
Beg. I could throw myself at his feet and beg for mercy. He’s been kind before and he’s shown concern for my well being in the past, he might take pity on me. He’s my friend, isn’t he? If he knew how dire my situation was
What a horrible thing to do to a friend. He was so distressed the first time I brought it up, I won’t add guilt to that too. I don’t want to risk our friendship by pushing beyond what he is comfortable with. I don’t want him to hate me.
Maybe he already does
9. Nobody
#misfits#wip Wednesday#submas#Tumblr did not want to play nice with the formatting orz#perhaps its for the best that its not ready for chimbsmas#this isnt a particularly festive chapter#like#I got a gift for you!#IT WAS PAIN#people in the comments last chapter were really worried about Ingo#as they should be#submas angst#<- I am not kidding

MHA's ending still isnt particularly good, but the NEW last chapter is a bandaid to the abysmal ending of the previous last chapter, not a miracle cure that solves everything after the Culture Festival onwards.
It is definitely better, since now they decided to not ignore Ochaco's arc and giving her and Izuku a proper conclusion.
is it perfect? definitely not.
is it BETTER?... honestly cutting it at 429 after Izuku called Ochaco his hero was probably still a better move- but 431 is still definitely better than 430.
There is still way way WAY too much that i have issue with, Midnight's death for pure shock value and then never mentioning her again, Kurogiri never had a final ending, Bakugo dying for pure shock value only to revive immediately after- Edgeshot sacrificing his life to save Bakugo... only to, once again, revive immediately after. Himiko dying, Tenko dying, Izuku not being a hero after losing his quirk...
there is far too much not addressed or just sloppily written outside of logic for me to say the ending is good. I think it's fine, definitely better now, but man is it just... not what anyone really wanted i think?

It's surprising and curious how Mikan's words can actually hurt or affect Natsume in some way and this is 100% canon in the manga, at least it happens twice.
The first is that time at the Festival when his fans started saying bad things about Mikan and she, in a fit of fury, said that she would never ever dance with Natsume and later we can see that these words really affected him because later he didn't want to dance with her and he even went with another girl!
Natsume, the introvert who never participates in academy events or interacts with girls, this time he did it only because Mikan said she would never dance with him.
And later we have that moment in the new year, when everyone ended up stuck together because of a prank by Tsubasa, at one point Mikan without realizing it says that she likes Ruka more than Natsume and at that moment Natsume doesn't seem affected but when are they going to sleep Natsume remembers Mikan's words twice; the first time when they were entering the room and mikan was complaining and Natsume replies "I'm sorry but I'm not Ruka" and at some point I know he says "I'll return you to Ruka later"
I don't remember if there is another instance in which something similar happens but I think that the 5 of us who are still alive in the fandom don't talk enough about how Mikan's words do have an importance in Natsume and that he can really feel hurt by they. It's also funny because all these scenes occur when Natsume was in the mood of "leaving Mikan and Ruka together" and he stepped aside so those words from Mikan should have been a joy or relief for Natsume but in reality they weren't.
(and very honestly I think that as much as Natsume loved Ruka I think he would never have been able to stand him being with Mikan, I'm sorry but every time there seemed to be some 'progress' between Mikan and Ruka, Natsume never reacted well, in fact he was affected)
hi! thanks for sending a message! my reply is a bit long, so it's under the cut.
it certainly is 100% canon but i dont think it's surprising to me, considering that it's typical for someone with a crush to be particularly vulnerable to any harsh words from said crush (whether they were harsh on purpose or not).
i did discuss these instances and more in my essays bc of how interesting those scenes are from both natsume and mikan's perspective but i will always take an excuse to talk more about them!
i always thought the festival dance instance was interesting, especially when you compare the anime and manga events, bc the anime seems more like what you'd expect from natsume: after pushing ruka and mikan together, he sulks off and isnt seen again at the dance for the rest of the night until mikan finds him. the manga is interesting bc he does the opposite, at least for a little while. yes, he does still push mikan and ruka together, but instead of brooding about it by himself, he acts out of spite, dancing with every girl EXCEPT for mikan.
i love this scene for what it reveals about both of them: they're too stubborn, for their own reasons, to actually communicate their feelings of jealousy. anime!mikan asks natsume to dance but manga!mikan would never, and analyzing those differences is pretty interesting.
and for the new years chapters, he actually gets hurt by her a couple times that day. the first instance is when she asks him how many greeting cards he got, when the answer is 0 and it is technically something she could have deduced. this event is a little different than the "i prefer ruka" one because mikan is instantly berated and feels really guilty for hurting natsume. she even gifts him her mochi as an apology though actually saying the words "im sorry" is difficult for her. natsume is a lil different too, because although he's hurt in the moment, he forgives her pretty quick and is still contemplating giving her his alice stone and he even eats her mochi without receiving any real apology at first. in this case, he knows she didn't mean to hurt him and there's no ill will involved, so it's easier to move past.
the case of confirming out loud that she would rather be attached to ruka than natsume is different for a few reasons:
mikan doesn't know that natsume loves her, so even though she instantly takes it back and tries to clarify, because she knows it's a mean thing to say, she doesn't fully understand why natsume would be particularly hurt by it. i would actually argue that mikan doesn't really mean what she says here, either. she doesn't prefer ruka to natsume at all. she loves both of them (in different ways) but considering her actions up to this point, it's pretty clear she's devoted to natsume. she's just petty here because he's irritating her.
i think mikan does in some way know ruka has feelings for her, and her feelings in response are complicated. i talked a lot about why i feel this way in my essays, but the main takeaway is that, because she isn't sure how she feels about him back, she doesn't want to really confirm or deny anything. saying things like that she prefers ruka to natsume might hint at some confirmation she isn't ready to give.
natsume does get hurt here in a way he doesn't with the greeting cards because this isn't a silly misunderstanding; it's a statement of her feelings. natsume has given up from the beginning. just a few chapters earlier, he even tells ruka "i was never trying to win in the first place" because he has no future to give mikan, being in a relationship with her would put her in more danger, and he hates himself and views himself as unlovable. altogether, he has no hopes of mikan falling in love with him as opposed to ruka. HOWEVER, that doesn't mean hearing things like this doesn't hurt. he's still jealous and sad about it, and that's why he doesn't get over it quickly even when she says that's not what she meant. he stays bitter about it for a long time, because, as far as he's concerned, she told the truth.
i think, usually, natsume doesn't really get very hurt by mikan's words because he knows she's careless and talks without thinking. there's plenty of things she says in the heat of anger or without considering how her words might make someone feel, and understanding what kind of person she is means her words don't hit as hard for him. there's a few instances where she does hurt him, and those are usually related to saying how she feels out of spite. she lashes out, and he gets hurt in the process. he loves her, and nobody on the planet would feel good getting any kind of hint that the person they love doesn't feel the same way.
for me, one of the most interesting scenes in the manga is chapter 81, when natsume asks mikan if people worrying about her is a burden, and she says "yes". she doesn't say it because of luna's threats or carelessly like she might have earlier. usually mikan hurts natsume on accident, or without thinking she could hurt him, but this time she hurts him on purpose, because she's jealous. he hurt her by choosing luna's team over hers, so she hurts him on purpose by saying he's bothering her. she doesn't mean it, and she regrets saying it, but i find it so interesting that she feels so bitter about being rejected by him that she hits back.
we don't really see much of natsume's reaction to that. he's not happy, for sure, but we don't really see if that hurts more than anything else that happens to him in this arc. still, mikan's side of things gives the moment an extra layer of angst.
natsume is, i would argue, almost always team ruka, at least until the sports fest arc. he gets jealous, yes, but like i said, he doesn't consider that he could get the girl and he doesn't really aim to get the girl either, out of fear she could get hurt. he loves mikan and he loves ruka and he thinks, if they like each other, they should be together to make each other happy (because he can't). that doesn't mean he doesn't get jealous, it just means he's choosing the path that hurts him the most for the sake of others because of his martyr complex.
things start changing around the sports fest arc because he becomes increasingly less capable of resisting showing his affection toward mikan. he has been pretending to hate her for so long without ever apologizing, but this time is different. he can't do it. he has to apologize, he has to hug her, to anonymously confess to her. he can't fight it anymore. thus, his jealousy towards ruka (while never once taking the form of anger towards ruka) also becomes stronger.
natsume is fascinating because he in constant conflict between selfishness and selflessness, the conflict between choosing what will make everyone else happy and what will make him happy.
he chooses selflessness each time, even when it's hard, until mikan makes her feelings known to him. he'd already completely let go of hiding his feelings by that point because he wasn't doing any of these things for reciprocation, but just because he loves her. but when she says she loves him back, he chooses selfishness. he's still dying. a relationship would still hurt her. and he still doesn't view himself as lovable (he underestimates how much she loves him). AND YET he still kisses her and proposes.
*note that when i talk about selfishness when it comes to natsume i don't mean it in a necessarily negative way.*
as for natsume not "standing it", i'm sure he wouldn't be able to. but his poor reactions towards mikan and ruka's relationship are mostly internal, which he is willing to take, with maybe some bitterness towards mikan, which works in his favor because he's constantly trying to push her away. he doesn't WANT mikan to be with ruka, but natsume doesn't care about what he wants. what he wants is never his priority. besides, he knows his death is imminent, so at least he wouldn't have to watch mikan be with ruka for too long. he sets the stage and he puts this misery on himself because he's convinced himself everyone would be better off without him.
but that's why it's interesting when he finds out his feelings are reciprocated. he doesn't try to put ruka and mikan together anymore. even when he has ruka promise to take care of mikan for him if anything happens, he doesn't mean for ruka to be with mikan after that. after all, natsume even tells mikan "you are mine," and that he will never give her stone back to her, even if her feelings change. and then, after natsume does die, ruka confesses again to mikan and tells her he will win her over next time. i think he does this to lure natsume back to life. kinda like a "see natsume? im making moves on your girl! come back and fight for her!"
so i do agree with you that he wouldn't be able to stand it, especially after he finds out mikan loves him back. he never wants mikan with someone else, but after that point, he wouldn't be able to tolerate anybody with mikan except for him.
i really can't talk enough about natsume or mikan or their relationship which is why i've written so much about them. natsume's jealousy is so interesting to me because it's rarely as simple as "i don't like the idea of mikan being with someone else." that's definitely a factor, but it's complicated by his love for ruka as well as his own self-hatred and martyr complex. this is what makes him so different from most male leads in other romances and also what makes natsumikan so unique.
tbh i think jealousy gets a bad rep these days. people lump it in with aggression and abuse, and though jealousy can certainly play a role in those things, it's an emotion and no emotion is intrinsically bad or abusive. EVERYONE gets jealous. it's what we do with that jealousy that makes a relationship healthy or toxic. i definitely wouldn't say natsume's jealousy takes a healthy form, but he's not abusive towards mikan in that way, mainly he hurts himself. he puts himself in this situation time and time again. this struggle requires natsume to choose himself every once in a while, rather than what other MLs might need (to choose other people over themselves).
i know you didn't necessarily ask a question, but i love having discussions like this. i hope you have a lovely day!
#answered#anonymous#gakuen alice#natsumikan#ga#hyuuga natsume#ppl hate jealousy but i think they just hate normalized abusive actions justified by jealousy#same w anger. there's a difference between feeling anger from time to time and having anger issues that hurt others#but these feelings aren't necessarily good or bad. feelings don't have morality. they just are#its fun when i go somewhere and leave tumblr for a while and come back to convos like this in my inbox... a nice surprise!

Puppy Dog Tails
Puppy Dog Tails by LittlebabyShouta
"Blasty Blasty! Did you hear? Kaminari is bringing his new service dog to the dorms!" Mina pounced on his shoulders, he threw her off onto the couch.
"I dont fucking care about his damn dog! Keep that fucker away from me." Bakugou shoved his hands into his pockets and tried to storm off.
"Well uh-" Mina called out from her spot on the couch, her fingers nervously scratching at her face, it made Bakugou want to paw at something. A habit he'd never grown out of, no matter how much it made him sick.
"Well, it's just that- Kaminari said that he might have to take him to class for a bit." Bakugou's chest felt heavy with dread and his heart skipped a beat. The color drained from his face, it was bad enough the damned thing would be in the dorms but now it was going to be in class? Fuck- how the hell was he gonna survive this shit.
Or- After a particularly traumatic event in his life, Katsuki was diagnosed with cynophobia- the fear of dogs.

✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
Good day everyone~! This week’s Comic Tea Party is now officially beginning. Today we are discussing Cosmic Fish by cosmographia~! (http://cosmicfishes.com/) For those new to CTP, discussions about the comic are freeform, so please feel free to bring up whatever you wish. However, every 30 minutes I will be dropping in a discussion question to help those who would like a prompt. These questions are totally OPTIONAL to answer so pay them no mind if you wish~! Remember, constructive criticism is allowed, but the primary focus here is to have fun and appreciate the amazing comics that the community makes~! Each chat a top comment will be picked and featured on an ad for this chat, so let’s have a great discussion~!
With that said, let us begin with this first question~!
QUESTION 1. What is your favorite scene in the comic so far and why?
for me my favorite scene is the silent interaction between syias and bells while they are fighting ramus. i think so much of the visuals to the moment illustrate their relationship beautifully. it was a moment that really cemented them as my favorite guardians in the story
another scene that im particularly fond of is that one where bells and schnell talk and he tells her to change her strategy. there was something ominously dark about it in a way that felt....realistically practical? cause while i dont trust schnell's intentions, i cant disagree with his practicality in the matter. i mean is he really wrong since insofar, it doesnt seem bells' strategy has been particularly effective
✨Tenor✨
I haven't gotten to read this week but I've seen the art and style and it looks super good so I'm hoping to catch up after my end of the month rush
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
yes you should. cosmic fish is a very well-illustrated comic. and the lore behind it is pretty intense. i think a lot of aspects capture that its its own world
cosmographia
Hello everyone!! So sorry for being a tad late
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
thats okay a lot of the regulars are late/might not come i guess? holidays have been killer i imagine
cosmographia
yeah it's been a busy time for all
but ey I am SO glad that both Syias and Schnell's scenes are really effective! It's really fun to write characters that are morally gray
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
im glad to hear. moral grayness can be a challenge to write for sure.
syias i think is more sympathetic than schnell. schnell is kind of a jerk cause enigmatic reasons. whereas syias is a jerk cause gotta do whats good for the world and then he head pat apologies bells.
i might be biased cause i have a fondness for the guardians XD
for me theyre one of the most interesting parts cause of their roles and how they interact with others
cosmographia
hahahahaha that's definitely fair! they're slowly coming into the picture and become more prominent in this chapter and so forth. (the guardian lore is insaaane and I'm so glad we're finally there hahahaha)
✨Emma the Festive🍠Potato✨
I liked the beginning of chapter 5
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
yes. admittedly from a more critical level ive been liking the later chapters a smidgen more cause its tying things that happened earlier together a lot better. cause the initial chapters while well-written, always kind of felt connected mostly by protagonist. but the later chapters are really making everything seem like threads of the same world since motivations and past events and all that stuff is coming into play
what did you like about it specifically @✨Emma the Festive🍠Potato✨ ?(edited)
cosmographia
yess! I'm really glad to hear that! The first chapters are definitely meant to feel a little looser until all the pieces come into play. And Emma, I'm glad chapter 5 is really clicking with you!
✨Emma the Festive🍠Potato✨
I guess the end of chapter 4 is included in the reason why I like it It's just when we see that Ramus has become huge and stuff, I felt that was really impactful
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
ah yes, thats definitely a good reason. my heart was a little broken from that moment. cause it was like the emobidment of worst case scenario
and after seeing hte flashback
can just imagine how many people are going to be sad and crying O_O
except for schnell. schnell probs just gonna shrug say welp sucks to be ramus
cosmographia
hahahahahah
I think an important thing to keep in mind is that Schnell is...very old and even if he claims to be a guardian he still doesn't have the same concept of time as they do, so he's probably bitter and tired of that by now
there's a comic I haven't uploaded onto the main site yet (since there already was a gone fishing between chapters 5 and 6) that kind of explores Schnell how he was 250 years before the current events
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
oh man that sounds super interesting. especially cause schnell who in my opinion is the most mysterious of all the time.
his weariness definitely comes through though i think
especially through his expressions
where they just always struck me as someone saying "dang kids and their newfangled ways"
cosmographia
HAHAHAHAH
that is not far off honestly
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
lol oh man, i must understand schnell better than i realize then.
✨Emma the Festive🍠Potato✨
Yeah Schnell is cool and interesting, I would like to know more about that guy
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
QUESTION 2. Bells and Schnell are entangled in a complicated “game” that directly correlates to ghosts coming into existence. However, Schnell is enigmatic at best. What is Schnell’s goal with this game, and why does he care about ghosts being saved? Why does Bells even agree to play this game? As the first ghost, how did Schnell come to exist? Does it have anything to do with the game? Lastly, what is this “fish” that Schnell’s mentioned to Bells that would make his job easier?
cosmographia
hahahaha as is with the story, there's going to be a few bits and pieces about Schnell presently, but as for his backstory and past in general, is still going to take a bit to explore (to not lunge the reader with too much information, especially since we're still in the adaluxen arc) 2) Great questions, one second!
- What is Schnell’s goal with this game, and why does he care about ghosts being saved? Schnell originally served under Bells (in the Monster King comic, he's still wearing what is currently called the Guardian uniform) and he assisted Bells in returning ghosts back to where they came from with other characters we may have met but can't say ;D So despite him being tired of what he defines as "Bells' constant failures" and even promoting them (as he says in chapter 4 that he IS to blame with why Acantha wasn't saved), he's trying to use negative reinforcement to get Bells to do [something] I can't say yet but it's definitely related to Schnell's earliest memory he told Acantha in chapter 4. (About the white being that drinks tea) -As the first ghost, how did Schnell come to exist? That is sadly a spoiler for now, but he is definitely telling the truth that he was a ghost and with Bells' and the other guardians misunderstanding of what a ghost was (since they had never seen one before) did lead to how he got his powers. (This will be explored later) -Does it have anything to do with the game? The "game" was invented after Schnell stopped working for the guardians, it's more of a jab as in "if you're not going to take this seriously, let's make it a game then" kind of approach. -Lastly, what is this “fish” that Schnell’s mentioned to Bells that would make his job easier? The fish is actually a cosmic fish, they are actual physical entities but that's all I can say for now hahaha
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
hmm some food for thought for theorizing
cosmographia
hahahah yea no definitely go ahead and share if you have any theories
MathTans the Pun Prince
I made it home! ^.^
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
im actually most surprised by the fact schnell actually helped return ghosts at one point. i personally always thought he was eternally bitter
welcome math~!
cosmographia
hello there! hahahahah
he holds bitterness and resentment for a lot of things since day 1 though, you are not far off it's just things that gradually evolved
MathTans the Pun Prince
Gonna take a second to catch up, but in terms of favourite scene, I actually liked the whole "Toy" side story. It showed the Guardians of the world, showed they weren't omnipotent, showed they were maybe out of touch through no fault of their own, just thought that was very clever.
(Delves into backlog.)
cosmographia
much like Acantha, he was very optimistic but after a while he lost it. So Schnell is semi-meant to represent the bitterness Acantha could eventually develop if she dwells on her failures
ey thanks! but oh man I'm so glad the out of touchness is clear in that!! guardians are definitely out of touch with the world, of all ironies
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
for me the out of touchness perhaps more came about when ramus attacked i think
just cause they didnt pay mind to the ppl around
just were focused on fighting
and syias was like "yeah sure another guardian can show up im sure nobody will freak out"
cosmographia
yea that's definitely important later
even with Bells trying to befriend Acantha, she's more determined like "I'M approaching her so it'll be cool right" without actually considering the harm's she's done (the collar, some resentment, etc.)
MathTans the Pun Prince
Yeah, lots of lore in this one. Interesting how things don't necessarily end happy or sad, it's just like, this is how things are for better or worse. Also, yeah, like Bells as a character.
Guardians are interesting in general.
cosmographia
yessssss, thank you Math!
I'm sometimes worried the comic comes off as too pessimistic when it's meant to be an inbetweener
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
i cant speak for everyone but i think its an inbetweener. or more accurately, i think the story is just reality based, in that reality isnt pessimistic or optimistic 100% of the time
it just is what is it
bad stuff happens
and ppl have to keep living
so really i just feel like the characters are living actual live
s
that have consequences
MathTans the Pun Prince
Acantha took getting used to as well. What with the attitude and stealing and stuff. (Which is weird to say, because my protagonists aren't always sweetness and making the right decision either.) I gravitated a bit to Bells.
cosmographia
Ah Rebel I'm really glad to hear that!! Hahahah I think that's fair, she's definitely written to be bratty at first
MathTans the Pun Prince
Q2: Schnell just seems to have it in for Bells somehow? Like, maybe he had mother issues in his life and he's taking it out on her as "mother ghost" kind of deal IDK. Using everyone else to do that.
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
man i cannot unpicture someone pointing at schnell and just shouting "you have mother issues!"
XD
cosmographia
HAHAHAHA
MathTans the Pun Prince
Once we see Acantha's history she becomes loads more sympathetic too, to be clear.
cosmographia
p sure if/when the ghost kids find out about that they'll just slowly turn to him and go "REALLY????" cuz THEY definitely have valid father-figure issues
good!!
MathTans the Pun Prince
"Were you hugged enough as a child?"
cosmographia
Hahahahahahahaha
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
yeah i really appreciated acantha's backstory. i think it was super needed right at the point it was presented. cause it finally showed that her own actions and attitude were a direct result of her past and what happened
cosmographia
good!! There's definitely chunks missing from there but they'll be studied throughout the story (and also gone fishing short stories thrown here and there)
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
>v>
in regards to question two part of me has been wondering if schnell just doesnt like his own life and he wants ghosts to be saved so he himself can be saved and move on.
MathTans the Pun Prince
Yeah, negative reinforcement is really kind of a dick move. IMHO. Hmm, so cosmic fish bunnies exist outside of space time?
(Ok, caught up...)
cosmographia
ooh ho ho nice theory Rebel! Ah yeah cosmic fishes are not directly related to Lheur (but I can say he is part cosmic fish, but not entirely)
MathTans the Pun Prince
I kind of wonder if Schnell really does know more than he lets on. Like, maybe he's been able to exist as long as he has by drinking the blood of virigins every hundred years. And he doesn't want anyone to kill because then they might stumble on the secret too.
Lheur is a fish offspring perhaps.
cosmographia
hahahahah no it's not THAT dark hahahahhaha mmmmaybe ;D
though I CAN say that, like guardians, cosmic entities like the fish and such can't biologically reproduce
wishjacked
Oh hey, I'm not going to be able to talk much (I'm at a holiday party!!) but I wanted to say that I finally read through the chapter three epilogue after this comic being on my TBR for ageeeeeees and I cannot wait to read the rest!!
MathTans the Pun Prince
(Have I mentioned I put out crazy theories? Cuz I do that.)
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
ah see, clearly bells made schnell on purpose cause she was like "ah man being a mom would be great" and now schnell is bitter cause he has an eternity to live
cosmographia
hi Wishjack, thank you!!! And I hope you have a wonderful time at the party (hahaha no problem at all, I find them funny)
hahahahah
MathTans the Pun Prince
Hiya wishjacked! Any fave in what you read?
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
thanks for stopping in wishjacked~!
cosmographia
Bells "aw man I definitely wish I knew what being a mom is like" -creates the most brattiest, entitled little thing- "....dammit"
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
meanwhile syias is in the bg saying i told you so
wishjacked
Such a good story so far, I'm really enjoying the characters and worldbuilding!! The bit with the mayor getting eaten by the starfaces was my favorite moment so far, and I'm REALLY looking forward to seeing how the story progresses!! Schnell's design slays me every time, it's so good.
cosmographia
ahh thank you wishjacked!!
and PFFT
Syias: lemme guess, now you want a PET? -Lheur shows up- Syias: OH COME ON.
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
QUESTION 3. One of the larger conflicts in the comic is whether or not ghosts can be saved. Exactly why do ghosts form in the first place? Do you think they can actually be saved? Why can’t the guardians save them from the get-go? If ghosts are doomed to become monsters/change like Ramus, why hasn’t Schnell changed? Is this human character, Midah, going to have some role in their salvation? Speaking of which, what is Lheur’s (the rabbit-fish) role in all this?
MathTans the Pun Prince
Oh yeah! That thing with Mayor Pain was clever in terms of showing the light/dark reversal kind of thing too. Like, how it was actually not a bad thing and just part of "life", such as it is.
Also, twintailed star people. Strangely cute.
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
i liked mayor pain's reaction to being "eaten"
that was like a hilarious expression moment all around for everyone
cosmographia
Hahahahah! okay yea one sec!
MathTans the Pun Prince
Also, french bread puns (and puns in general) gets an A+.
When having dinner, Lheur might have a minute amount of seconds.
Going back to the quesiton, I wonder if ghosts form from things other than humans.
(Schnell has the blood of virgins thing going for him, like vampires...)
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
oh thats a good question math
i never considered that possibility
MathTans the Pun Prince
It just seemed like if they have no memory of being human, maybe they weren't, but I'm not sure about the alternative.
As to Lheur's role, it seems to be making collars.
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
hmm. its possible. although i considered the fact they dont remember being human is just from the sheer fact they no longer possess the brain that contains their memories. so its not like theyd have concept of what a human even is
MathTans the Pun Prince
Mayor Pain wasn't exactly human either though.
Of course, that might have been another plane of existence entirely.
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
yeah we do gotta remember lheur teleported them somewhere. who knows where that even was.
not to mention theres monsters besides ghosts anyway
so the existence isnt that odd
MathTans the Pun Prince
True. Maybe it's regrets of the guardians made manifest or something. >.<
cosmographia
Exactly why do ghosts form in the first place? I can't really give the exact reason as to WHY they're there without diving into spoilers, but ghosts' bodies are a defense mechanism to a world they're suddenly being thrust upon. They don't go through the normal developmental process of baby, childhood, teenager, adult, but are thrown in at mid-teenager and expected to pick everything up in a matter of days. So their bodies are responses to society, personal, and cultural expressions and after a while they just CAN'T go back to where they came from (literally and metaphorically) Do you think they can actually be saved? I think anyone can be saved but it's not in the concepts a lot of western cultures define it as. It's not that someone like a friend or a romantic partner saves you or a higher entity (in this case guardians), but more how much you're willing to accept your own flaws and work toward them for your OWN betterment and everything else comes afterward. So a lot of what happens later isn't about being saved by a guardian before they turn, but WHAT you do with the circumstances and your own definition. You sometimes can't take back the things you've said and done (Ramus physically hurting Hessa, and Acantha's crime that often gets talked about) but how you respond to it, gives it meaning (Ramus allowed his negative thoughts to control his life till he became a monster, Acantha just pushes forward) Why can’t the guardians save them from the get-go? The only guardians that have the connections to the ghosts are Bells and Syias mainly because they feel the life cycle being disturbed, but for them to actually locate a ghost is a bit of a task. Actually, I'll answer this question with another question, if in chapter 1 we see that Bells compresses the souls but we know they can't filter through the guardian, where does she take them? ;>
If ghosts are doomed to become monsters/change like Ramus, why hasn’t Schnell changed? That definitely has to do with his powers and something else we'll see at the very beginning of the next chapter ;D Is this human character, Midah, going to have some role in their salvation? HEHEH. We'll see. Speaking of which, what is Lheur’s (the rabbit-fish) role in all this? Honestly, I'm gonna explain this soon so I'll say it here, but Lheur's role is that he makes sure the universes are running smoothly and healthy. He's kinda like the little guy with a notebook who takes notes at anomalies and leaves, but has befriended Bells little by little through his visits And yea, the comic has never stated if they were human at all, and honestly, that doesn't matter since they can't go back nor have memories from that possibility. They could've been anything or even nothing! It's who and what they are now that counts
MathTans the Pun Prince
Speaking of western cultures, it's interesting to see some of the Puerto Rico tidbits. I like stuff like that.
cosmographia
oh I like that theory Math
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
peeks in
Hw yeveryone
Almost forgot about CTP again
cosmographia
Yea!! I honestly wanted to make a comic that would motivate people to find the reference or see something and go "-gasp- that looks like the thing in Cosmic Fish!"
hello there!!
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
hey super~!
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
Hi Cosmo! Hi Rebel!
MathTans the Pun Prince
Well, and with Acantha's many eyes, I originally thought she was the comic fish. (Maybe she is, in a metaphor way?) But now it seems more likely to be beings like Lheur.
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
Also that's an intresting piece of trivia
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
ah okay i guessed right on lheur. i thought thats what his role would actually turn out to be. that hes some being of order spying on things to make sure everything is okay. but then this begs the question of whether or not the ghosts are considered anamolies.
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
Refrences are fun to do
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
as for where bells took the soul i assumed it was to some cosmic place where the cosmic fish are
but now i think that makes is sound like the souls are fish food
cosmographia
Nice!! Ghosts are definitely anomalies ooh interesting guess! ovo
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
Ooh is that so
MathTans the Pun Prince
The souls are soles? O.o
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
and idk i could still argue acantha is the cosmic fish in a metaphorical sense, math. it depends on what the message of the comic is cause acantha could be considered the embodiment of the title even if shes not the literal fish as far as the lore is concerned
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
also Acantha is the cutest thing with six eyes that I've seen yet(edited)
cosmographia
thank you justing!!
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
if lheur is responsible for the collar i wonder if the collar is some sort of experiment from lheur's "superiors" to see if they can help ghosts move on and return things to status quo
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
You're welcome XD
MathTans the Pun Prince
I still have such a soft spot for Bells. With her rolly head. I don't like that Schnell teases her about it.
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
I'm actually Justin but everyone in this group likes to call me Justing
cosmographia
yea!! Yea you're right on the money about the metaphorical title Rebel, cosmic fish is attributed to Acantha's personal growth + an actual thing in the story
oh ok sorry <"D
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
Lol it's k XD
MathTans the Pun Prince
OH, which reminds me, in one of those animated sequences (which OMG, very impressed that it's a thing) it looked like Bells' head was rolling away until she grabbed it and I laughed. (edited)
cosmographia
ooooh I love these theories
hahahahaha YEA!
MathTans the Pun Prince
Rebel: Hm, maybe? Are the true cosmic fish Lheur's surperiors, and they made him to keep tabs on things?
"Create some bunny ears to be more non-threatening."
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
I'm also a total sucker for characters with stick eyes like Bells/Raju
(and thank you deeply for doing chapter recaps)
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
maybe. although makes me wonder what cosmic fish are again. like are they embodiments of the universe. beings that exist in the cosmic flow of life. O_O regular ol' space fish
cosmographia
hahahahah OH ey good!
hahaha
ah man I can't say yet
I CAN say they're kinda dumb.
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
regular ol' space fish it is
cosmographia
hahahahahah
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
schnell just wants to have a good fish dinner
cosmographia
he just wants the pet fish Bells told him he wasn't responsible enough for it
MathTans the Pun Prince
They're Acantha's siblings sent back through time after she creates them.
cosmographia
oh GOD
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
lol
I want a pet space fish
cosmographia
no , like...time is a thing but there's no legit time travel in the comic I REFUSE to work with time travel(edited)
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
that's understandable
since time travel is in everything these days
cosmographia
yeah honestly
also I don't want the answer to the comic to just be "time travel"
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
i do kind of wonder if acantha had some sort of interaction with the cosmic fish unknowingly just cause she kind of wound up looking like a fish dragon thing
MathTans the Pun Prince
Hee. I do time travel. It's not as popular as you might think. ^^ But there was one remark about how time was fluid or something and so how they're not really ghosts, that's an element.
cosmographia
time is a very delicate and finicky thing in the comic so it's unreliable, nervous, and nobody likes it
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
I'd probobly try time travel a grand total of one time in my series(edited)
because the story is all about it
Especially since you have to write about things like, paradoxes
cosmographia
yeah!
MathTans the Pun Prince
Maybe Acantha will learn how to do the cosmic fish teleport, maybe that's what the collar is preparing her for.
cosmographia
and as for the question Rebel, it'd be interesting yeah! But for now nah, Acantha just looks fish-like because she was drowning. She isn't technically special in any way.
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
oh really
cosmographia
ye ye
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
QUESTION 4. Our protagonist, Acantha, has numerous mysteries about her. With her being Bells’ newest strategy to save ghosts, the mysteries are more poignant than ever. Do you think Bells is right that Acantha might save the ghosts/prove Schnell’s wrong? While it’s implied Acantha broke the rulef about killing the past, what do you think exactly happened (and why does that rule exist)? Will she reunite with Hessa and the others? How will she react to Ramus’ death? Will we ever find out how Acantha became a ghost exactly due to Schnell’s machinations?
cosmographia
if anything Schnell is supposed to be the "special/chosen one/what have you" he's the half-and-half, as in, half ghost half guardian that stories usually use to treat as the hero but he ain't!!(edited)
MathTans the Pun Prince
Maybe Acantha broke the rule partly to annoy Schnell.
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
what about half spider
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
well i remember it was implied that she did it to protect the others
but from what
from some icky human
?
MathTans the Pun Prince
Schnell is like evil Hercules.
Maybe to protect them from Schnell. She says she doesn't trust him.
confleiks
so i may have just pictured schnell in an ill-fitting kid's costume of disney hercules
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
perhaps
MathTans the Pun Prince
Bells is Hades?
"Whoa, is my head off?"
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
MIND BLOWN
MathTans the Pun Prince
Just reverse the morality.
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
hmmm
cosmographia
Do you think Bells is right that Acantha might save the ghosts/prove Schnell’s wrong? Their bet mainly consists that despite everything that happened, Acantha still saved a ghost (back in chapter 1) unlike what Schnell would have done. So, in a way, yes, I think Bells is on to something but is approaching it in a very black and white way and that can be bad for Acantha. So both need to work on their own things there. While it’s implied Acantha broke the rule about killing the past, what do you think exactly happened (and why does that rule exist)? There are a few reasons, killing is considered a problem with ghosts because, it's, well, bad, and it might speed up the process since ghosts change into monsters due to negative thoughts. Also since ghosts aren't SUPPOSED to be there, them killing someone is a paradox (though nothing universe breaking is happening, so it might just be guardian paranoia) and Schnell is against killing personally because he believes there are worse punishments. What Acantha did, IS covered soon, so I can just say, she deliberately killed a human and it wasn't even out of self-defense. Her own reasoning is understandable once that's taken place (it's foreshadowed a bit in Gone Fishing 003, the one with Midah) Will she reunite with Hessa and the others? Time will tell, but most likely because good narrative structure would incline that to be so, but it's really a matter of WHAT will happen and WHEN ;D How will she react to Ramus’ death? Oh we're finding out about that very soon, so stay tuned! Will we ever find out how Acantha became a ghost exactly due to Schnell’s machinations? Yesssss, by next chapter!
and hahahahaha
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
oh boy
dis is gonna be fun
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
my semi crack theory is that schnell happened upon unformed acantha and said "ah mother isnt here" and then he kicked her into the lake/river
and then sipped some tea
MathTans the Pun Prince
Speaking of Acantha and Schnell, Gallo was pretty cool. And funny at times. Though he really shouldn't have spilled the beans there, in retrospect.
cosmographia
hahahaha no she WAS there but close ;D
MathTans the Pun Prince
Possibly sipped the tea first.
cosmographia
hahaha
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
Did i hear
tea
MathTans the Pun Prince
I also liked with Gallo's first appearance Acantha was all "nope nope nope". Then it got echoed later. Nice little throwback.
cosmographia
he really shouldn't have but I'm hoping once i get the short stories edited and out into the world, it's going to be very clear that the ghost kids are crazy dependent on Schnell as their fix-all solution YEEES
confleiks
@cosmographia HI MOM
cosmographia
good on ya for catching the callback
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
TEEEEEAAAAAA
cosmographia
@confleiks HI MOM
tea is important in the comic hahahaha well for a few characters but
MathTans the Pun Prince
Good on you for writing it.
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
@cosmographia HI MOM
I like comics that have tea as a theme for some reason
cosmographia
hahahahah
I'm trying to get to the page that the tea thing is mentioned
MathTans the Pun Prince
Also Gallo makes me think "pico de gallo" and he's red like salsa so that works.
cosmographia
http://cosmicfishes.com/comic/chapter-4-page-20/
Cosmic Fish
cosmographia
Chapter 4, page 20
HAHAH Gallo means rooster, so close enough!
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
i really like gallo's design. but speaking of gallo i enjoy the fact that there are certain things they cant do cause of how their bodies are made. like the fact gallo doesnt really have hands so has to pick stuff up with his teeth. thats a really nice detail
MathTans the Pun Prince
Hands are really an issue with the guy, of course.
Yeah, my spanish is not good. ^^;
cosmographia
yea!
Gallo is handicapped but it isn't plot or character-development related, it's just a thing that is and that's ok!
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
so a cartoon monster or whatever Schnell is loves him some tea
MathTans the Pun Prince
Can Acantha ever close all her eyes? Like, I can see why she wouldn't like dark tunnels, not used to never seeing anything.
cosmographia
the two small ones have transparent eyelids like crocodiles
confleiks
I wonder if Acantha ever threw a blanket over his head because she thought he might think it's nighttime and fall asleep
cosmographia
but they see shapes and shadows for the most part
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
lolol
cosmographia
HAHAHA
confleiks
YES HAHAHAHAHA
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
thats a good picture. i accept this as a canon scenario.
cosmographia
maybe it'll help her in her next stealthy heist
hahahaha
MathTans the Pun Prince
Oh yeah, cosmographia, saw some of your little pics at the bottom of some comics, those were clever.
cosmographia
ah thanks!!! poking fun at your own stories is A+
MathTans the Pun Prince
It's a thing with those who enjoy puns, maybe.
cosmographia
HA
maybe...definitely
there's a good number of puns or playful naming decisions for most characters here
MathTans the Pun Prince
I'm sure I only noticed half. ^^
cosmographia
hahaha well some become more relevant later
Acantha isn't JUST called Acantha because of the mirror decoration
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
OMG LOL
THAT PIC
MathTans the Pun Prince
So you have the whole thing sketched out for a while yet, eh?
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
The rag is the ultiamte weapon
MathTans the Pun Prince
OOOooooh, interesting. (Reminded of the pic where she's just taking the mirror away, heh.)
cosmographia
she's a "support" for other characters ;3 likeapillarsupport...it'sagreekthing
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
heehee
cosmographia
hahahah
MathTans the Pun Prince
It's so ionic.
cosmographia
and YEAH! the characters are pretty old and the story took a long time in the oven andalotofreading
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
oh really?
how long have you been planning this comic?
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
i did wonder if acantha's meaning was super on purpose and not just cause timing and place XD
cosmographia
2012...? At least that's when the first draft happened, some characters are from 2009 or so
hahahahahah
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
ooh wow
cosmographia
yea it's unconscious but also it'll start gaining relevancy throughout the story right now it's just her own word for identity, so it's a "self" definition, and it needs to evolve into "action" or how it's perceived.
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
mine started planning around '09, but I haven't started making the full story for it yet
cosmographia
ooh!
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
and I have a feeling it'll take me a long time
cosmographia
that's normal though, and also gives you a time to re-do things
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
Yeah
cosmographia
or re-establish them and make em more solid
MathTans the Pun Prince
The little plush doll cameos was cute in that one update too, wonder if that was inspired by something?
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
Lots of things have changed in my project over the years, mostly for the better
(at least I hope the changes I did make were for the better)
cosmographia
CF definitely became WAY better when I started researching the science-y parts oh! it was a thank you for a lot of people who were supporting me at the time and just did a call on twitter and fb if people wanted cameos
good!!
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
oh nice~
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
i like that idea of acantha's name turning from a piece of identification into an action. thats a really beautiful sentiment that i think suits the comic
cosmographia
whoo!!
thanks!
MathTans the Pun Prince
Gotcha. Animation bits also impressed me. Nice that you have the support and music and such for such things.
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
yea
MathTans the Pun Prince
And all the best with you health-wise cosmographia (I read some of the author remarks and comments).
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
^
Best of luck and hope everything goes smoothly
cosmographia
thanks!! I wanted to make animated bits for every chapter but that soon proved to be wayyy difficult. Major kudos to the musicians who've helped and sometimes having months in advance to plan out scenes. (Bells juggling her head while fleeing from Ramus was made like...5 months in advance)
ay thank you so much!!
MathTans the Pun Prince
That whole thing with Bells head, subtle running joke, don't know why it amuses me so much.
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
Welcome
MathTans the Pun Prince
Maybe cuz I like her character and it helps show that she's also a bit imperfect.
cosmographia
hahahaha GOOD!
confleiks
Bells is like a very excitable and eager to please ancient puppy and I love her so much
cosmographia
Bells was definitely made to APPEAR like the perfect fix-all character but definitely is neither of those things upon further inspection
yessssss :')
confleiks
she'd be a cocker spaniel or bassett hound because of her long ears :>
MathTans the Pun Prince
Hee! She has dogged perseverance.
confleiks
BA DUM TS
cosmographia
hahahahahaha
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
relatedly i want to say i really like the mentions of how the ppl worship the guardians. i think it really capture the disconnect between ppls idealistic image of them and the actual true nature of their existence
cosmographia
^^^^^ Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
Yea
MathTans the Pun Prince
Another nice callback actually was when Acantha said she didn't like the story of the toy, which had been shown earlier.
Rebel: Very good point.
cosmographia
"the guardians are perfect and want what's best for us" -Bells trips in the next scene-
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
lol
MathTans the Pun Prince
Also, I think it was the right idea to not really have people until the later chapters. Keeps the focus on the curious beings, who are the major players.
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
^
cosmographia
Ye!! It also kinda hinted that any potential narrator might not be a narrator but something....or someoooone
yea!!!!
cosmographia
"what's the toy?" Oh, literally just a bed time story Schnell told Acantha and she hated it.
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHH
✨🐱 RebelVampire 🐱✨
i do like seeing humans tho. cause everyone kept mentioning them but i was like "where are they O_O"
cosmographia
HAHAHAH
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
"who are these "living" things"
MathTans the Pun Prince
"Humans are mythological creatures."
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
Are ghosts made of flesh in this comic?
cosmographia
"they're not the center of the universe it seems, just some other random animal"
yeah they gain a physical body but they can't control it after a while
MathTans the Pun Prince
It is interesting that humans aren't really huge or anything though. They're size-wise about right for everything else, I think.
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
ooh
Superjusting of ✨Time🕑&Space☄✨
alroight then
MathTans the Pun Prince
All the best with the fishy stuff going forwards then. ^.^
cosmographia
yea they're just...part of everything else. Which is also why I was very avoidant of using them at the beginning, cuz this isn't a story about them no matter how hard they try
cuz we humans naturally desire to be the protagonists
MathTans the Pun Prince
Good call.
cosmographia
so the narrative is purposely going "there they are...in the distance. Moving on."
MathTans the Pun Prince
We're also sometimes the antagonists.
cosmographia
they're not good, they're not bad, they're there.
yep!

Redneck Revolt: the armed leftwing group that wants to stamp out fascism
There are several commonalities between the far left and the far right including a disdain for liberals but the biggest divide is on the topic of intolerance
The cookout offered free food, a face-painting booth and a protest sign-making station a pile of cut-up cardboard boxes, paint markers and rolls of packing tape. A group of neighborhood boys, each no older than 12, gathered around. They wanted signs to tape to their bicycles, so they could ride around and tell Trump what they thought of him.
One grabbed a piece of cardboard and wrote in big letters: TRUMPS A BITCH.
Max Neely quickly stepped in.
Im not sure you should use that word, he said, his voice taking on a fatherly tone. At 6ft2in, he towered over them. That word isnt very respectful to women, and there are a lot of women around here today that we should be respecting. Maybe you can think of another word to use.
The boys conferred. Eventually, they settled on a different, less offensive protest sign at least in Neelys eyes. FUCK TRUMP, it read, followed by four exclamation points.
A 31-year-old activist with long hair and a full bushy beard, Neely had a full day of political activism ahead of him: Donald Trump was in Harrisburg to mark his 100th day in office with a speech at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex. In other parts of the city, the liberal opposition were also readying themselves: organizations such as Keystone Progress, Dauphin County Democrats and the local Indivisible group planned to march in protest.
Neelys group were not among them. Instead, they had set up a picnic site in a small park, offering a barbecue and leftist pamphlets. Someone had planted a bright red hammer-and-sickle flag in the grass. On a nearby table hung a black banner that bore the words Redneck Revolt: anti-racist, pro-gun, pro-labor.

If you havent noticed, we arent liberals, said Jeremy Beck, one of Neelys cookout friends. You know, if you keep going further left, eventually, you go left enough to get your guns back.
Wooly liberals, theyre not. Redneck Revolt is a nationwide organization of armed political activists from rural, working-class backgrounds who strive to reclaim the term redneck and promote active anti-racism. It is not an exclusively white group, though it does take a special interest in the particular travails of the white poor. The organizations principles are distinctly left-wing: against white supremacy, against capitalism and the nation-state, in support of the marginalized.
Pennsylvania is an open-carry state, where gun owners can legally carry firearms in public without concealment. Redneck Revolt members often see the practice of openly carrying a gun as a political statement: the presence of a visible weapon serves to intimidate opponents and affirm gun rights. Many of the cookout attendees owned guns, and had considered bringing them today but ultimately they had decided to come unarmed, in the interest of keeping the event family-friendly.
Redneck Revolt began in 2009 as an offshoot of the John Brown Gun Club, a firearms training project originally based in Kansas. Dave Strano, one of Redneck Revolts founding members, had seized upon what he saw as a contradiction in the Tea Party movement, then in its infancy. Many Tea Party activists were fellow working-class people who had endured significant hardships as a result of the 2008 economic crisis which, in his eyes, had been caused by the very wealthy. And yet, Tea Partiers were now flocking in great numbers to rallies funded by the 1%.
By supporting economically conservative politicians, Strano thought, they would only be further manipulated to benefit the already rich.
The history of the white working class has been a history of being an exploited people, he wrote. However, weve been an exploited people that further exploits other exploited people. While weve been living in tenements and slums for centuries, weve also been used by the rich to attack our neighbors, coworkers, and friends of different colors, religions and nationalities.
Now, eight years later, more than 20 Redneck Revolt branches have sprouted across the US; the groups range widely in size, some with only a handful of members. Max Neely is a member of the Mason-Dixon branch, which encompasses central Pennsylvania as well as his native western Maryland. Many members are white, but the organization seeks to build on a redneck identity beyond race.
I grew up playing in the woods, floating coolers of beer down a river, shooting off fireworks, just generally raising hell, all that kind of stuff, said Neely. Things most people would consider a part of redneck culture. Were trying to acknowledge the ways weve made mistakes and bought into white supremacy and capitalism, but also give ourselves an environment in which its OK to celebrate redneck culture.
The group draws a great deal of inspiration from the Young Patriots Organization, a 1960s-era activist group consisting primarily of white working-class Appalachians and southerners. Im very impressed with Redneck Revolt, said Hy Thurman, one of the early founders of the Young Patriots. I think theyre right on with what theyre trying to do.
The group opposed racism and worked closely with the Black Panthers, but they did make use of the Confederate flag in their recruiting. Thurman explained that it was used only strategically, to start conversations with poor white people who might identify with the symbol.
In the same way that the Young Patriots once used the Confederate flag, Redneck Revolt seeks to employ another emblem of rural America: guns.
Redneck Revolt groups work on providing an explicitly anti-racist presence in rural areas, and focus particularly on gun shows. Many members are from places where guns are relatively normalized, and Neely wants Redneck Revolt to serve as a viable alternative for people who might otherwise join the growing right-wing militia movement.
Since the 1992 Ruby Ridge siege, the US has witnessed an increase in anti-government paramilitary organizations. Oath Keepers, for example, is a militia group that strives to defend the US constitution, which the group believes is under threat by its own government. They claim to be nonpartisan, but its members politics tend to skew far right. During last years presidential election, they announced that members would be monitoring voting booths to prevent election tampering, stating he was most concerned about expected attempts at voter fraud by leftists.
But groups like Oath Keepers have much in common with far leftists: concerns about the infringement of human rights, objections to mass surveillance and the ever reauthorized Patriot Act, anger at the continued struggles of the working poor.
We use gun culture as a way to relate to people, said Neely, whose grandfather was an avid hunter. No liberal elitism. Our basic message is: guns are fine, but racism is not.
Officially, Oath Keepers bylaws prohibit anyone associated with a hate group from joining, though their background checks have proven to be inconsistent at best. But there are other rightwing groups around the explicitly racist kind.
Im worried about Pikeville, said Neely. Ive got friends out there.

Pikeville is a small Kentucky town deep in the heart of Appalachia. It has no major airport or interstate, a population of less than 10,000 and an abundance of idyllic mountain scenery. Mining has long been the major industry here, though Pikeville also attracts tourism: mid-April draws over 100,000 visitors to the annual Hillbilly Days festival, a celebration of Appalachian culture and music.
In the week after the festival ended, however, Pikevilles atmosphere had taken a distinct turn. Neo-Nazis were coming to town the same day as Trumps appearance in Harrisburg.
The Nationalist Front an alliance of far-right white nationalist organizations was planning a rally in front of Pikevilles courthouse. Take a stand for white working families, read an invitation that circulated online.
This begins a process of building and expanding our roots within white working class communities to become the community advocates that our people need and deserve, wrote Matthew Heimbach on the Daily Stormer, a neo-Nazi website.
Pike County chronically impoverished, overwhelmingly white is seen as a fertile setting for spreading their ideology. The city of Pikeville itself has actually experienced some growth in the past few years, but the greater area is struggling. Pike Countys unemployment rate is one of the highest in the nation: 10%, more than twice that of the US as a whole.
Trump successfully tapped into this desperation with his pro-labor, anti-immigrant rhetoric and successfully won more than 80% of votes cast. Citing this figure, Heimbach hoped to develop existing pro-Trump sentiments into full-blown national socialism.
Were doing this because we care about the people of Pike County, said Jeff Schoep, head of the neo-Nazi National Socialist Movement, in a video promoting the rally. Weve seen factories shut down, weve seen people losing their jobs, weve seen families getting desperate and reaching out for drugs or other things that they shouldnt be doing. We want to give people hope again. Something worth fighting for.
That something happened to be a white ethno-state, and many Pikeville residents were not interested.
The city approved a permit for the Nationalist Front to gather downtown, citing the constitutional right of free speech and assembly, though Donovan Blackburn, the city manager, also issued a statement promoting peace, respect and diversity.
Students at the University of Pikeville planned a counter-protest, but the event was quickly canceled due to safety concerns: university officials feared that a conflict between the Nationalist Front and members of the antifascist movement or antifa could escalate into violence.

Developed in Europe over the past few decades, antifascists represent the lefts own united front: a conflux of anarchists, communists, social democrats and others, dedicated to stamping out fascism by any means necessary, including violence which they see as a justified response to the inherent violence of fascism. They often employ black bloc tactics, where individuals wear masks and all-black clothing to avoid police identification.
Antifascist groups have never been as prominent in the US as they have been in countries such as Greece, where masked individuals recently smashed the windows of the Golden Dawns headquarters. But in the wake of Trumps election and the ensuing spate of hate crimes, they have swiftly mobilized. A masked man famously punched white nationalist Richard Spencer in Washington DC on Inauguration Day; two weeks later, antifascists lit fires on UC Berkeleys campus in protest of rightwing ideologue Milo Yiannopoulos.
We live in a historical moment where theres unprecedented wealth inequality, and the average person is struggling to get by, said Sidney (not his real name), an Appalachian antifascist who has been keeping a close watch on white nationalist activity in his area. When governments, as they characteristically do, fail to step in, people look to other institutions for an answer. Fascism is having a resurgence because were in that moment. Its not a problem thats going to be solved by leaving it alone. Thats like leaving an infection alone.
A 27-year-old native of West Virginia, Sidney comes from a coal mining family. He splits his time between installing drywall and organizing with Redneck Revolt.
Pikeville really caught my attention, said Sidney. The Traditionalist Worker partys been making real efforts to organize in Appalachia. Im not a Kentuckian, but Im a working-class Appalachian, and it really sticks in my craw.

To dissuade antifascists, who often wear masks during demonstrations, the Pikeville city commission passed an emergency ordinance that prohibited the wearing of masks or hoods in downtown Pikeville. Anyone above the age of 16 wearing a mask or hood would be subject to 50 days in jail and a $250 fine.
Antifascist demonstrators would have to show their faces, which could be potentially dangerous: neo-Nazi groups have been known to use facial recognition software and other tactics to identify counter-protesters, acquire personal information and subject those identified to further harassment.
At Redneck Revolt, we tend not to cover our faces anyway, said Sidney. We want to make inroads with the community, and its easier if they knew who you are.
But Sidney had a greater concern: Kentucky is another open-carry state and Heimbach had encouraged members of the Nationalist Front to come armed, ahead of possible leftist attacks. At least, however, he would have his own firearm: his Smith and Wesson semi-automatic pistol, which he decided to carry concealed.
A couple locals had expressed to Sidney that they wished they would all go home both neo-Nazis and antifascists.
I cant blame them for feeling like that, said Sidney. Theyve got this huge ideological fight on their doorstep that they didnt ask for.
Regardless, some time after noon, a large group of antifascist protesters some armed, some wearing bulletproof vests headed to the courthouse, ready to face the Nationalist Front.
Instead, they saw only about 10 white nationalists, waiting in a little area that had been fenced off by police. They were members of the League of the South, a group that promotes a renewed attempt at secession from the US. The two major Nationalist Front delegations, the Traditionalist Workers party and the National Socialist Movement, were missing.
Rumor soon spread that they were lost.
Given that theyre not from this region, and they dont represent the people here, its not terribly surprising, said Sidney.

Back in Harrisburg, a group of six young white nationalist men wearing a uniform of white polo shirts approached Neelys cookout site; they looked like missionaries, clean-shaven with neatly combed hair.
Max Neely approached them and asked, cautiously, whether they were interested in socialism.
No, they responded. They identified themselves as members of Identity Evropa, a white nationalist group that endorses racial segregation and only admits applicants of European, non-Semitic heritage. They had initially supported Trump as a presidential candidate, but were now in Harrisburg to protest him; they were disappointed that he had not yet created a white ethno-state.
Neely wanted to keep them away from the cookout. On another day, in a different setting, some of his associates might have come ready for a fight. But today was meant to be family-friendly, and many of the picnic attendees were young black activists from a local high school. They could handle themselves, Neely knew, but the task of arguing for the legitimacy of your existence against those who deny your humanity is an arduous one.
So while his Redneck Revolt friends kept a careful watch from across the street, Neely let the Identity Evropa members talk more about their ideology about how the US was a nation meant for white people, how white culture was under attack. Neely debated them as politely as he could, hoping his quiet listening could diffuse the situation. They thanked him for being so calm and civil.
Its easy to be calm when youre a white man, said Neely. Its easy when its not your life or your familys lives at stake.
They could not see the back of his shirt, which depicted a hooded figure dangling from a tree, and the words HANG YOUR LOCAL KLANSMAN.
The encounter ended rather decisively: three local teenage girls had chased off the white nationalists.

By mid-afternoon, the cookout was in full swing. Nearby residents filled plates with barbecued chicken and strawberries. A neighborhood man looked at the pamphlets that Neely had laid out. Piece Now, Peace Later: An Anarchist Introduction to Firearms, read one title.
Yall trying to overthrow the government? he asked.
Its more about community defense, answered Travis, one of the Redneck Revolt members.
I just wanted to warn you, the man continued. West Philadelphia, 1985. Look what happened to them.
He was talking about the lefts own Ruby Ridge moment: in May 1985, a Philadelphia police helicopter dropped a bomb on to the row house that had served as a headquarters for Move, an armed black liberation group. There were 11 casualties, including the groups founder, John Africa, as well as five children. The resulting fire destroyed 65 houses. A special commission later appointed by the mayor to investigate the incident concluded that the bombing had been unconscionable.
When Neely and other white members of Redneck Revolt claim allyship with movements like Black Lives Matter, they are compelled to acknowledge their whiteness in particular, their ability to carry weapons with impunity.
When Oath Keepers began to patrol rooftops during the 2014 protests in Ferguson, Missouri, their intention was to protect protesters from the police but many activists were alarmed and intimidated by the appearance of heavily armed white men. When Redneck Revolt members show up at black-led protest events, they are generally invited.
They are our security, said Katherine Lugaro, an organizer with This Stops Today, Harrisburgs local iteration of Black Lives Matter. Theyre a wall between us and anyone hateful. They put themselves on the line.
A neo-Nazi demonstrator in Pikeville. Photograph: Pat Jarrett
Back in Pikeville, a full hour after the rally was scheduled to begin, a caravan rolled into the parking lot down the street. Matthew Heimbach and the rest of the neo-Nazis had arrived. Close to 100 people, dressed in head-to-toe black and carrying Nazi insignia, marched up to the courthouse building. Many in the front were visibly armed; others carried wooden shields decorated with swastikas and Norse runes. Someone had brought a shield featuring Pepe the Frog and the words Pepe ber Alles. They sieg-heiled to Heimbach.
They were outnumbered by protesters two-to-one.
Then came a few hours of scheduled neo-Nazi speeches. This turned into a few hours of shouting, as the antifascists attempted to drown out the sound system with drums and jeers. From the midwest to the south, they chanted, punch a Nazi in the mouth.
A handful of Pikeville residents lingered on the other side of the police barricade, listening to the Nationalist Front speeches. But most locals present had trickled in along with the protesters, eventually making up a third of the crowd, and had joined in with the jeering.
They were absolutely the most strident antifascist voices there, said Sidney. Im assuming most of these folks were apolitical, or maybe conservative, but they were drawing a line in the sand.
No injuries, no shots fired; the Nationalist Front finished their speeches and returned to their caravan. A heavy police presence had kept the two groups separated and prevented any opportunity for confrontation. It was over.
