more dumb music opinions!! this is long and ik most of u don't care but whatever this is my platform i will post how i see fit. also im not proofreading this at all its 1:26 in the morning and im literally falling asleep as im writing this so apologies in advance if this isn't the most well written or coherent post ive ever made

okay yall i fell down a rabbit hole of people on tiktok criticizing chappell roan and now im all worked up so here i am giving my opinions no one asked for;

so something i've been noticing a real influx of is people bringing up her hot to go performance at outside lands (a festival) where she says something along the lines of "vip thinks they're way too cool to do this.. you're not fun!" mfs have been getting online to talk about how chappell was being SO RUDE!!! and NOT EVERYONE KNOWS HER MUSIC WHO DOES SHE THINK SHE IS!!!! but like anyone with common sense who has seen the vid/heard the audio can tell she was being playful?? like come on now. i also saw someone post abt how she was being mean to jimmy fallon?? 😭 first off, while im not sure abt this one in particular late night shows are usually scripted and secondly im starting to believe more and more that these people have just never interacted with a drag queen before. chappell roan is a STAGE PERSONA and the majority of drag queens are characterized by having this larger than life attitude- take for example that one rupaul /jimmy fallon interview (u guys know which one) like idk i feel like it's very obvious that chappell is playing it up for the sake of entertainment, not cuz she genuinely believes she's above everyone else.

the other thing i've seen ppl whining about is how a) she doesn't wanna take a picture with fans, therefore she believes her shit doesn't stink and b) the two tiktoks she posted a day ago where she was voicing her struggles openly without policing her tone. first off, CELEBRITIES DONT OWE U PICTURES. don't get me wrong, taking a picture with a celeb u are a fan of can be a great experience and a fun story- but people are acting as if it is their god given right to get a photo with whoever they want whenever they want. "oh well she brought this on herself it's the price of being famous" are u stupid omfg acting like chappell signed a contract giving up her autonomy in order to get on the billboard charts. she quite literally did not choose this and even if she did that doesn't mean ur automatically entitled to a pic with her as if she's some kind of zoo animal like?? the two vids she posted to tiktok essentially telling ppl to leave her alone was met with backlash because she 'sounded rude' again im going to put this in perspective for everyone. her family is being stalked. she is being harassed both online and in real life. being upset because she comes off a little brash in a video where she is practically begging yall to stop with the harassment should be the least of your concerns. this is a twenty six year old who was virtually unknown six months ago- her meteoric rise to fame was not something she could have been prepped for in anyway possible. i feel like some people just aren't trying to wrap their heads around how insane the reality of this situation really is. the phrase "fifteen minutes of fame" used to be a lot more hyperbolic than it is now. i'm exhausted

one aspect about them i love

this is a very specific thing but watching the trajectory of not just his character development but his willingness to be.... happy? in front of people, specifically, across time? bc one thing i've noticed watching season 3 as it airs and then going back and watching the show from season 1 on through with a friend of mine who's watching it for the first time w/ me is that he barely smiled in season 1. not like.... for real. he smirked and sneered a lot but he didn't Smile, not in a real way, and now that we've seen what he actually looks like when he's smiling it's just. it's really jarring to go back and realize oh he just. never smiled, when we met him, huh. the kinda thing that drives me nuts.

one aspect i wish more people understood about them

i feel like this is one area where my lack of exposure to fandom at large is gonna hamstring my ability to coherently answer one of these questions slksjv but i guess i'll just say with No specific judgement or thought towards any particular person or thing i've seen in particular, i wish people generally Understood More about trauma and what they're saying about it wrt jamie, if that makes sense.

one (or more) headcanon(s) i have about this character

[points at icon] The Man Is Aromantic Gd Bless. i could go on about this forever in all the ways i see it manifest in his storyline and the way i think about him. but that's pretty much a gimme around here, given The Icon and my fic XD

so for another one, i think he would be, depending on the sort of person you are, either extremely fun or extremely obnoxious to watch movies/tv with. i feel like he's the sort of person who Talks To the tv and has very strong feelings about whatever is going on and NEEDS to share them. in order to get him to shut up during movie nights at away matches somebody needs to basically be designated to sit next to him and play with his hair because that is pretty much the only guaranteed way to get him to be quiet bc when people are like Directly Affectionate with him it turns his brain off.

one character i love seeing them interact with

well there's roy, because that dynamic is as i have described before "a rich tapestry of things that make me fully insane" and i will never tire of pondering it but there has been SO MUCH good stuff with him and sam in season 3, particularly in background moments. the trajectory of their dynamic has been very fun to watch and the way that relationship has been communicated lately, largely without dialogue, has been a very engaging game of Watching For That as episodes progress.

one character i wish they would interact with/interact with more

i'm gonna take what could perhaps be an interesting pivot here and say rebecca. i think they are both like..... a very particular kind of Awkward in a lot of situations that i think would be very fun to watch in a situation Together. they'd bump off of each other like roombas. there's a reason i have at least one or two Rebecca And Jamie Are Left In An Interaction Together During Some Kind Of Serious Moment scenes in several of my fics. also i would just.... really like to see something made of how he was one of the bigger pieces of collateral damage in her war against rupert early on, i think there's some very fun space to like. get very interesting with that.

one (or more) headcanon(s) i have that involve them and one other character

this is a bit of a cheater answer since it isn't 'one' other character but i think jamie often has trouble sleeping (i could say about a million things abt this) and sometimes when he's having a particularly Bad Time with it i'll make an excuse to go find someone he knows and trusts and take a nap on their couch while they play video games or read or watch a movie or something. everybody has just sort of acclimated to this being a Thing That He Does, with a wide variance of understanding of what exactly he's doing and why.

god i know that complaining abt fic which most of you haven't read, and which i won't, for politeness' sake, identify in this post, is a great way to come across as both dickish and boring—

but i've been rereading a very long, very satisfyingly plotty series that's a fandom darling and the thing is, when you read like 400k of an author's work at once it really starts to become painfully apparent what their priorities are, by which i mean two things:

holy shit they're obsessed with 'what if strong powerful men who could hurt you didn't (but did hurt Bad Guys) (and it was sexy of them),' which leads into

holy shit they do not appear to have thought through the implications of saying 'i will have my heroes take over the same power structures that have enabled abuse, make no real changes to those structures other than swapping out the leadership, and then claim that everything is wonderful now bc Good Men Are In Charge'??

like. i don't necessarily need every passing fantasy to present me with a coherent, revolutionary system of politics and ethics—sometimes things are just fun and sexy and not especially Examined and that's fine!—but by the time someone's written literally almost half a million words, and done a lot of worldbuilding while they were at it, i am going to start squinting if they seem to think a Good Man can e.g. become an emperor by killing off the leadership of multiple countries and installing puppet kings loyal to him and still remain a Good Man, even if the justification was that the original leadership was maltreating its citizens and deserved to be extrajudicially executed. like. this shit was a bad, autocratic move when the US did it in real life and it's still bad now that you're having our mutual blorbo do it in fiction! and that's not even getting into the whole thing where like. they've got servants who the Good Man and his friends ""treat well"" but who very much remain second-class citizens in terms of how the story actually frames them and their concerns. [this was also a huge issue i had with foz m*adows' most recent book—everyone wants to write about fantasy nobles but they also want to make them good people and it's like. honestly i think it might be better to get comfortable writing about flawed people, but also—if your aristos aren't treating their servants like equals and your text isn't either, you haven't actually cracked the Moral Aristo paradox, sorry!] like, there's nothing that says your story has to depict a fully Healed World, nor should there be! but it's troubling if you seem to be convinced you've written one (and have your wide-eyed love interests constantly marveling at it!) when you very patently haven't.

Honestly I think Airy wrote down notes if they were just... interesting to him. Or maybe if they sparked some sort of memory?

Because yeah! He DOESN'T use that info for anything! No one else is going to see it but him! Why not write cool stuff about the people in your show! Secret lore!

But MAINLY the thing that freaks me out is how did Airy get that picture of Bryce. Everyone else's could possibly be on social media, a phone, some sort of camera, Liam's is his work computer. But Bryce is passed out drunk on the FLOOR. He doesn't have FRIENDS. Why would his phone be out??? There aren't cameras in apartment buildings either??? HOW DID HE GET THAT PICTURE. Does the computer give you some level of omnipotence in the real world that isn't through technology? That's SO scary!!!

Airy also could have updated it as he went? Maybe after the pool incident he wrote it down? But again like you said he doesn't really... pick up on it well. I GUESS Bryce could have mentioned it somewhere but... Why would he? Unless it was in a conversation with someone (wait. a therapist maybe? telehealth?), which brings me back to Can Airy See Things On Earth That Aren't Cameras/Videos? Did he pick the contestants randomly like season one or did he put thought into them? He made the pages for everyone either way but... Still.

GOD YEAH... it is SOO. its one of the most unsettling things abt the database, and raises SO many questions. i think maybe?? it COULD be an omnipotence thing but maybe someone was there? maybe bradley brought him home and his phone out for literally anything ??? and airy was like oh well theres my image! but even then its. you have NO other image of this guy, why did you PICK him. how did u even FIND him if the apparent only image you can get of him is smth that def was not easily available. its JARRING and UNSETTLING

i think if airy were to connect the dots that ep 6 gave any of them thalassophobia, hed put it for all of them, but telehealth IS a good bet??? assuming the computer can only access things like cameras and stuff. this WOULD also mean bryce got a therapist after getting home which WOULD track w him trying to get his life in order, and also the idea of this makes me SO happy. but also sad. bc he was trying to RECOVER good for him!!!! but also . then this wouldve been a bit halted. tho also this would be one more person concerned for his wellbeing after he disappears AGAIN which IS good i think. but sorry bryces therapist thats prob a bit concerning for ur client to drop off the face of the earth (literally)

i DO all the time think abt how much he planned. bc i do think it was prob a bit less random?? maybe?? what with none of the people being picked being from france this time. but he also DID bring a baby. but also?? he does clearly put at least a little thought into it, since s3 was a bit planned out!!! he seems to plan things out more and more thru the series so this could be New, but i think it indicates some level of consideration abt who he picks!!! (that and... he picked bryces coworker and NOT his friend? so he may just not be the greatest at sticking to contestants that make sense Logistically, making that a running theme in all of his seasons)

OK I've been thinking abt this more actually hear me out here

So first off. It is not a one to one swap a Lot is gonna have to be different. Honestly Op fits Eurylochus more and Megs is more Ody but I really want the Optimus/Odysseus name lineup so. But that's near the end/after Underworld Saga mostly, near the beginning they fit my vision more. So different character arcs yay yay. I'll probably make a post abt that going into more detail at some point but yeah.

Instead of trying to get back home after war I feel like. Actually idrk what the end goal is.. maybe finding the matrix? I'm still cooking that part but essentially I'm kinda writing out Penelope + Telemachus sorry. I don't see a way 2 fit them in. I tried I really did. And maybe they'll make it back in somehow I have. One Alternate End Goal Idea that keeps the 'trying to get back to someone' aspect. It's. The actual AU Plot is a lot less fleshed out than it should be because this whole thing is just me playing with my robot blorbos like dolls.

I think Zeus and Poseidon might get smushed into the same character who is this AU's Sentinel Prime. Or maybe all the gods are different Primes? Except Elita/Athena ig mainly because she's. Not a god in this AU that's a very major change I'm making. If I go with Every Prime Is A God I think Sentinel would just be Zeus but idk who'd be Poseidon. Maybe I'll rope in Nemesis Prime????? Ik that guy isn't in Tfone but. Still.

I feel like almost everything in act 2 would change almost entirely. Like. Wisdom Saga is GONE bc we wiped out Pen + Tele + Athena's godhood. Mutiny would have the parts reversed. No sirens. Instead of the rest of the crew Straight Up Dying in Thunder Bringer I think that'd more so be like. Megs leaving + taking the high guard and forming the Decepticons. Y'know? And then we don't see them again until the end and instead of like killing the suitors it's our Megs vs Op final fight. Or smth. The beginning is clearer to me than the end.

adults always talk abt teenagers and their teenage years as wild and regretful, and, while im not like that, (ive always been called "wise" and "old soul" for context, im just a deep thinker i guess) someone mentioned that i talk more like a teenager now which felt sorta condescending and insulting though she then told me that isn't a bad thing

i think it's becaus emy anxiety is starting to go down so i use more slang and less restraint in sarcastic responses but isn't being "like a teenager" doesn't that have a sort of ignroing all rules and being a menace to society connotations?

i mean, i dunno. the thing i said was "whatever" so doesnt that make me a bratty mallgoing idk idk idk it feels like these are just stereotypes and they are obviously but i cant get it out of my head shouldnt i want to be old?

I feel your frustration. I think teenager stereotypes can actually be super harmful. For one, the 'depressed, reclusive teenager' trope can often be used to brush off signs of mental illness, and the 'troublemaker teen' trope gives all teenagers a bad reputation even if they aren't doing anything wrong in the moment.

Did you know the idea of a teenager really didn't start growing until the 50s? When suburban culture began growing and teenagers began to have the time and space to pursue their own interests. That is when catering towards teenagers really took off and we began to recognise the developmental progress teens go through.

Anyway, history lesson aside, ever since the idea of the teenager was born, common ideas of teenage behaviour have lived on.

I can still remember being around 11, and my mom talking/ranting to me about teenagers and I told her "when I'm a teenager I'm never going to act like that." She laughed and told me that in a few years I'd see I was wrong.

Well jokes on her but I never got into partying or going out. I didn't even have very many behaviour problems because I was repressing all my feelings and stressed about my future.

In that way I was also 'mature' or 'wise beyond my years'. Now that I've got my own place I've found I spend more time with friends in a way that some might view as stereotypically teenagery, but really I'm just comfortable and having fun.

As for your situation, it seems to be the same. You're more comfortable speaking up. That doesn't mean you're 'talking like a teenager'. Perhaps your coworker could have worded it more as 'talking like a young person'.

In any case, I believe teenagers need to be approached with more understanding. Teenagers aren't inherently bad, and they don't automatically act a certain way. Acting like they do, sort how your coworker did, isn't really helpful for anyone.

thinking abt totk and oot and how we, the audience, recognise rauru's name as the sage of light in oot, but in totk meet a new rauru, who was both the first king of hyrule, but also a sage of light. timeline-speaking, was the rauru of oot just coincidentally the sage of light and shared his name with the first one? or was it his fate, and his parents named him accordingly? or was he a history nerd who chose that name willingly? makes me wonder......
