i am just so enamored by kakashi's ninken pack. like he really just has 8 dogs that he dresses up. i think that little part tells us so much about kakashi's character. he's caring and he likes cute things. he's not just a battle hardened veteran shinobi, he has puppies too!!! and how did he meet them? are they inherited? is there like a choosing process? did sakumo put baby kakashi in front of three dogs and kakashi toddled over to pakkun? were the pack a pack before kakashi? there's just so many questions i have about the pack. kakashi's summons being 8 doggies is just sooooooooo HMMM he's perfect. his doggies are perfect. one of them even wears sunglasses. why? who's to say! maybe akino is blind, maybe he just wants to look cool!

also the fact that they wear konoha headbands? why? akamaru doesn't and he's a ninken. is it because they're a summons? but so is gamabunta and gamakichi and katsuyu but they don't wear headbands. is there a special rule about it? did kakashi just put them on his puppies? is he so far deep in konoha shinobi propoganda that even his puppies must be in uniform? or did he think it, like the henohenomoheji capes, looked cute. there's so many ways to think about it.

Seriously chaotic fashion misadventures

I realized I posted a teaser and never really followed up on it, so here is some more of that

“Hey, Dami?”

Boy hadn’t looked up from the kittens he was bottle feeding but let out a hum indicating he listened.

“I'm thinking about trying out a more girlish style. Do you think it would suit me?”

Well, Damian had no idea but if Dani wished to give it a chance, then, well, the only proper reaction was to offer his aid.

Bruce almost choked on his breakfast when his youngest made this announcement.

Rouge gallery, as his children playfully called it, was vast collection of lipsticks, which he collected to uphold his Brucie persona. Famous playboy with head constantly in the clouds couldn’t not show up with discreet signs of scandal from time to time. And it couldn’t always be the same shade. Or scent when he choose more subtle approach and used one of his more feminine perfumes.

In all honesty, he enjoyed this.

But that’s not the point, point was that Damian wanted to use it and Bruce needed to know what disaster would fall upon him if he agreed.

“Mind telling me why, chum?”

Dick, who visited Manor for a weekend, barely stifled his laughter while Tim stared at his empty coffee mug like it personally betrayed him. Cass just wore her usual knowing and mischievous smile.

Damian shifted in his chair, hands clenching on butter knife. He was nervous and suddenly Bruce dreaded the answer he was about to hear.

“I don’t see how me sharing this information would change anything. It won’t be used to cause harm to anyone but it’s necessary in the extracurricular project I just started.”

“Dami, what project?” Dick asked, voice oozing with genuine curiosity and excitement. He was almost bouncing.

“I don’t want to disclose it.”

“Is this a hero or civilian type of deal?”

Damian didn’t look any of them in the eyes, both hands clenching on his seat as he kept shifting. Bruce narrowed his eyes. Was his youngest… flustered?

“Civilian”

“Alright, great” Dick swung back with single clap, almost tripping his chair over “I think B won’t have anything against you using his rouge gallery, will he?” Man knew his oldest son well enough to recognize his ‘don’t you dare to disagree’ tone. He was confused but there wasn’t any harm so he nodded with affirmative hum.

“Thank you, Father”

Boy practically inhaled rest of his food and rushed outside. Despite all his training and all his efforts, they clearly saw his excitement. Tim pinched himself and returned to staring at his mug.

“Cass, have you seen what I’ve seen or am I overreacting?” Dick asked, barely restraining his enthusiasm. Girl nodded eagerly, shoving more crumbs into her mouth. Young man cheered, throwing his hands up.

“What have I missed?” Tim mumbled, frowning a little.

“BABY BAT HAS A CRUSH!”

Cass nodded again with wide smile.

Oh.

Oh no.

Who were they? What did he know about them? Was Protocol 3r0s started? Did someone run a background check already? What could they do if they somehow hurt Damian? Was this person a risk to their identities? Oh gods, oh no.

He probably will have to do The Talk™.

He always dreaded having The Talk, with any of his kids. He felt The Talk with Damian would be even worse. Understandably so.

“Also sleep in at least three da-”

His children remained obvious to how much work it meant, cheering and sassing each other like they often did.

Damian did not know how it was possible but he lowered his guard enough to get caught.

"What are you doing?" Brown choked out after they stared at each other for a long moment.

"You're rummaging through my wardrobe, not many things concern me more and also, that's frickin creepy don't do it to anyone outside of the family"

She did have a point however he was not convinced it would be the correct approach if he shared his plan. Father's wards (even unofficial like Brown) tended to make assumptions and overreact based on these conjectures. Dani wasn't easy to scare off but he didn't want to check if his family would manage. They often did things thought to be impossible.

He tried to get away but the blonde stood fiercely in a door, leaving the window as the only way out. He wasn't this desperate. Yet.

Girl looked more and more angry at his silence. He had to give her some answers.

Now that he actually considered it, she could be a useful asset. She was far better versed in women's fashion and if he phrased it correctly, he wouldn't even need to bribe her. Question was, how should he phrase it?

"I have an acquaintance- I have a friend," he corrected himself "from the animal shelter I volunteer at. She mentioned wanting to try out more 'girlish style' and asked for my opinion. I wanted to see if you had any clothes that would fit her. She is smaller than me so I thought that whatever I take, it wouldn't be missed." 

Brown grinned with an unsettling gleam in her eyes. He suddenly regretted opening his mouth if not coming to this room in the first place. 

"Say no more, I have a plan Demon Child"

Here's what typical vestment for The Odomache looks like.

The pelt of the lion that was originally sacrificed and worn raw for her incarnation is retained throughout the years of service, preserved and fashioned into a headdress and cape (obscuring a helmet). This can get dreadfully hot in the summer but no one ever said that being a hollowed out pathway for God's spirit was easy.

The complete obscuring of any identifiable feminine form is also notably important to the underlying philosophies and biases involved. It is necessary that she is female, a condition ascribed a unique malleability to change and transformation (for good or harm), but the act of female/non-male sex and gender assignment also serves to uphold an underclass in a patriarchy that she By Necessity must be distanced from. This extends beyond the masculinized social and dress performance of Odonii to a masculinized social performance with dress that utterly obscures any part of the body that could be gendered, and dress that is not gendered in of itself (women do wear less revealing clothing than men and skirts of similar length, but the act of Fully covering the body in this form exists outside of the bounds of gendered dress).

The relatively undecorated white cloak and robes in comparison to culturally favored displays of color and opulence further emphasizes a sense of the Odomache's separation from humanity. The Wardi image of God is not a human lord, but rather the world itself and the functions of the world distilled into the forms of animals. Human hierarchies exist Within God rather than God having a place within human hierarchies, so in this philosophy it's natural for this particular person of high authority to not closely resemble a Human Authority.

This is still ultimately a human body existing at the top end of a human hierarchy (and in the dimension of religious thought, it a human body holding aspects of God most specifically concerned with maintaining concepts of 'right' civilization and hierarchy), so public-facing garb like this will still include a few mundane trappings of lordship such as this fancy gold khattanocuy displaying an image of an enemy being trampled by the Face Odomache as the guardian lion. Purely ceremonial garb for the Odomache hides the body in its entirety beneath the white cloak and forgoes all decoration save for the obligatory weaponry.

A sword and dagger is worn at all times as a matter of being the ultimate physical bastion of her society's military might, and she is always accompanied by a retinue of 'lieutenants' (Extremely elite servants/squires) who carry whatever other elements of her perpetual armament are not currently in use. These weapons are Completely ceremonial in nature (to the point that they're made or plated with gold rather than anything like, durable) and there is absolutely zero expectation that the Odomache will ever directly engage in combat (the times this has happened historically have been when things have gone horribly wrong).

Her face is usually masked in public, though this is not a strict necessity of the role and is forgone for some ceremonial purposes. On these occasion, it's standard to paint the face red to still partly obscure human features in the same fashion of battlefield Odonii. As the color of blood, it positively evokes bodily vitality and strength, the living spirit of the world itself and the mode of connection to God (and will also be reminiscent of the rite of incarnation during which she is Actually covered in blood)

it looks like this round of birthday cards aren't going to be interviews/conversations, at least not for most of it -- the first part was Jamil talking to Ortho (who he duos with) about what his dormmates are doing for his birthday (they're setting up a surprise party/parade (because Kalim) but they're doing an extremely bad job of it and he's having to go around making sure that they don't screw it up) (being Jamil is suffering). second part was Jamil talking to his (unvoiced mob) roommate and answering Crowley's School Improvement Survey (he wants bigger bathrooms) (also a fridge in his room) (actually, make that a whole kitchen) (but mostly bigger bathrooms). then third part was his ~morning routine~, aka talking to himself about his hair and makeup, as one does in a visual novel. it's less cohesive than the previous birthday stories, but it's all pretty chill and there's some fun stuff in there! (Najma sent him hair stuff for his birthday that's way too fancy and he can't decide if she did it to annoy him or not. truly, being Jamil is indeed suffering.)

I feel like almost every adult contemporary romance that I read (mostly tradpub since it's a genre I prefer to listen to, audio availability etc) with an ace MC has them grey/demisexual/sex-favourable with numerous sex scenes and..... I have no problem with that in any individual book, obviously, but like, looking at things as a whole it really feels disproportionate to the broad spectrum of asexuality? I feel like there's a certain intent of 'going against ace stereotypes by showing that some aces still have sex!' but in this specific space it's just kinda all going in the same direction and like. there's a bit of a lack of the other side of the spectrum, actually. how much of it is just catering to what's expected in the romance genre?

anyway can anyone remind me of contemporary adult ace romances where the ace characters are sex repulsed and/or they don't sleep with their love interests?

off the top of my head I have like..... ace of hearts, life underwater, let's talk about love (?), a milky way home(??), love in all the haunted places (not repulsed but no sex in the book, and it is also a bit paranormal)......that's perhaps it, for books that I thought weren't bad?

(to be clear also: I myself am not sex-repulsed and I don't mind/enjoy reading sex scenes! it just feels like every ace romance I've read in the last few years is like this. i want variety)

I know at least a handful of local Indonesians follow me on here and I've already seen concerns over whether Lunar Boy is available in book stores after a recent take down of queer books. I'm here to assure you that as far as I know and from quickly checking, Lunar Boy is still available on periplus, tokopedia, and open trolley. While I know this is a frustrating time, please exercise patience to the staff working at these places- they're doing what they can.

I say this as someone who has to walk this tightrope between being vocal about queer representation online and in western spaces but also having to carefully navigate how things are in this country- keep this discreet and on the downlow, locally. I understand how the immediate reaction is to make recommendations lists or databases on other queer books to find and support, but right now it's clear someone is targeting these books and reporting them to be taken off shelves. I fear all this does is put a target on our books, and I don't want it to happen more than it already has. Imported books are hard enough to come by as is here.

I've already had book reviewers from the US ask permission to have Lunar Boy on recommendation lists, and that's fine! Feel free to add Lunar Boy on your lists. The accessibility of these books in western countries is a different story. But at home- locally- the motto is "tread lightly". Be cautious and discreet. Smaller things have caused huge moral panic and I think this is a precarious moment. Be safe out there.

Alright you all knew it was coming. Time to dissect the differences with Dalston and the circus tiger in each version!

First off. This was something I noticed instantly. Alphonse (for some reason) is a bit more secretive about liking animals as much as he does in the UK! We see this come back in the 'hannibal the ferocious' episode, actually.

Instead of telling the ringmaster directly that he has something to snack on for the tiger, too, he skirts around it and tries to act unbothered. This made me smile a lot. I think I prefer this, actually. Him being a little embarrassed about his love for animals. It fits his demeanor overall pretty well.

Then there's the acknowledgement of his own rambling that I like. He knows he's about to go on ranting. He's definitely done so many times.

Him calling Henry 'Le Bore' is SENDING ME. But what's interesting about it is that it mirrors what he calls Randall when they're younger, too.

He calls both of them 'his lordship', something I actually really like because it signifies that Henry has basically replaced Randall's role in Dalston's eyes, in more ways than one.

I think it's also intruiging that he calls Henry a bore specifically, considering Henry's tendency to take things somewhat too seriously. Then there's the specific mention of them having the same assets but Henry having higher profits anyway, and the slightest sliver of jealousy/reluctant admiration for that fact that comes with it–

All of it proves to me that Dalston sees Henry as in a position equal to or slightly above him.

This one is less important but I couldn't leave it out— Dalston TRANSLATES METAPHORS to be more tiger relevant. He uses paw when talking about himself, emphasizing the similarities between him and his tiger friend. This is very fucking cute.

In the US version this line is about him being worried the masked gentleman will ruin him I think (which I also appreciate a lot) but I like this approach too. Especially because it's him getting angry on the behalf of others!

We know he wasn't at the parade at the time so he's legitimately just PISSED that the masked gentleman ruined everyone's good vibe. He wanted people to have fun! And we know the circus troupe WAS at the parade, so he's probably DOUBLE pissed because they most likely put a lot of effort into preparing for it and now their hard work has been diminished.

I don't know, I like seeing him get protective like he does here.

So. The US has another criminal line change, sadly.

Basically. This means that Monte D'or is in the hands of the two people that care about it the very most. And it also makes Henry directing the police to arrest Dalston HURT SO MUCH MORE. FUCK

Dalston gets accused of being a danger to a city that he LOVES. That he's sacrificed a lot for, too! And it feels like people can't see any of that!! It has to hurt, ESPECIALLY coming from Henry.

Their fighting (and why it's resolved so easily by the end) makes a lot more logical sense to me now:

They're both always doing what they think is best for the city and when the other person does something they don't understand/can't agree with, they react in a hostile manner because it feels like the other person is ruining things (even if they're just helping in their own way).

They BOTH feel like the other person is a danger to all their own hard work and to Randall's memory. They're both way too stubborn to ever hear the other person out! It's actually shockingly everpresent just how SIMILAR their stances are.

So it makes sense that things are only finally resolved when Dalston finds out about everything Henry has really been doing for those 18 years (we know he's present for Hershel's whole explanation!) And they both realize they've had the same goal this whole time.

Then there's this which just. Ough. This is as close to the game yelling 'Dalston and the tiger are supposed to be parallels to eachother' in your face as we can get. And it's also just really cute.

I used to have a really hard time bringing up the fact that I graduated from high school a year late without feeling the need to explain why and insisting that it wasn't my fault while simultaneously kicking myself for how much I sounded like I was just making excuses for something I should take responsibility for.

The first time I heard the phrase "super senior" was in reference to Antiope Jones, a Black girl who had been held back a year after getting kidnapped and imprisoned by members of a fundamentalist cult, and like, girl, same.

So, since then, instead of anxiously spinning out any time I tried to tell a personal high school anecdote, I could just say I was a super senior, and then my brain would auto complete that statement with "like Antiope Jones" and I'd feel good about myself because Antiope Jones Is That Bitch.

That's what the problem had been the whole time. I wasn't worried about how other people would perceive me; I had been struggling with how I perceived myself.
