current mood: crying over “bring on the monsters” from the lightning thief musical
When the whole ensemble joins in it feels so inspiring? Like they’re facing insurmountable odds but they’ve decided to persist and rally in each other.
Annabeth singing bring on the real world as the fulfillment of her arc... And I LOVE that Clarisse joins her because they’re both the “girls who had to be tough.”
Literally everytime we hear sally’s voice I start tearing up from the sheer “she loves her sonnnn” energy
When the rest of the ensemble sings “We’ll make them listen to us,” it’s a great callback from the ending of the Prologue. They lyrics have changed this time to be more hopeful instead and oOgh the vibes. They might finally be seen and loved.
When the cast’s voices fade back and Percy sings on his own it just feels incredibly triumphant. It’s also a great contrast with the Prologue. Instead of singing “I didn’t ask to be a half blood,” he says “I’ll be back next summer.” He’s finally found a place where he belongs and embraced who he is. Seeing how his self image has changed from “good kid”... tear inducing
I think the part that gets to me the most is that the song makes it really clear that they’re a bunch of kids. Lyrics like “bring on the real world” and “i’ll be back next summer” are language that kids use. They’re really just kids that have no idea what’s in store for them, and yet the song is triumphant anyway!! It’s incredibly hopeful, and probably a little bit naive, but that’s what’s great about it.
