A Walk Down my Art Memory Lane!

Now that I’m thinking about my childhood Kirby art, I dug through my storage a bit and thought it’d be fun to share a few! Here are some of Baby Jojo’s drawings!

note: I was not active in any online Kirby art communities at the time and I never posted these anywhere so I made these drawings just for my own enjoyment hehehe.

These are probably among my earliest Kirby drawings. Most likely ~2008!! I must’ve been in fifth grade maybe…? The first picture is a very rare example of pre-2022 Dedede sightings in my art. Around 2010 I became embarrassed and frustrated about not being able to figure his shapes out. So I spent the next 12 years avoiding him at all costs and instead sticking to the safer things to draw, like nice round Bronto Burts or Waddle Dees. Who knew it would take me writing an entire comic about him in 2022 to finally learn to draw him in my style!! :P

The second picture speaks for itself lol. I was the girl who googled “maskless meta knight” back when we had no fancy 3D renderings of his face. Just edits of anime screenshots and fanart of him holding his mask/getting his mask stolen and looking at you with the biggest, pearliest, white eyes. JPEG artifacts littered these images like sprinkles on a cupcake. And I would giggle and squee with every one like the baby fangirl of Meta Knight I was. :3

This one was probably ~2009. Very ambitious piece for me at that age. I struggled with the perfect roundness of Kirby haha. I had just gotten these cool alphabet stencils and couldn’t wait to write “Kirby” everywhere with them. This was probably the complete catalogue of Kirby characters I had the ability to draw at that time. It’s funny to think about how Magolor wouldn’t exist for another two years when I drew this.

Hmm. Maybe I should redraw this one day as a fun honor for my younger self.

Triple Waddle Dees!! A rare but precious Sailor Dee sighting, and of course my sweet Bandana Dee. This was probably around 2011 after Return to Dreamland came out and I came to adore Bandee. :3

This is probably around 2012- some time after Mass Attack came out. I had this AU at the time where each of the 10 Kirbies from Mass Attack had their own personality trait from the original Kirby, and a permanent copy ability assigned to them. Hence the Spark Kirby having wings and a halo like in the game- where you get damaged and have to rescue the poor Angel Kirbies before you lose that life!

Also my Poppy Bro Jr OC that I don’t think I named at the time- but I redrew him recently and named him Allegro the Poppy Bro. I loved drawing his hair and his funny teeth :D

Finally, I redrew just a few of the characters from my old drawings tonight. Just doodling for fun, nothing serious. But it’s something my child self would be happy to know I could do.

Guess I’d better draw all the Dededes that Baby Jojo missed out on drawing!! Thank you to anyone who read to this point. I encourage anyone to draw things that would make their younger, baby self proud of you. ….even though I bet they already are proud of you. <3

you mentioned "uncle magolor" whats your thoughts on him?

I think that's what he's best at. Like I said: Uncle Magolor is talented in a lot of ways. He's quick witted and he's adaptable and he's strong, but above all, he's charismatic. He knows how to make people laugh. Or… well, he knows how to make me laugh, at least. I like him a lot. I didn't always look up to him so much, though! Funny story, actually: when I was reeeeal little— like I had to be three or four, he, Uncle Marx and Miss Francisca first adopted Glock. And I was so surprised by that, 'cause you know what I thought? I knew Mom grew me in a test tube, so I assumed that's where all babies came from. And I ended up saying to Uncle Magolor's face, "What? But Mom's always saying you're stupid. There's no way you're smart enough to have created a baby!" He. Was. Mortified. And I think to a certain extent Mom was too? But- uh, it all worked out eventually. Uncle Magolor started putting his all into impressing me, and I guess it worked, 'cause I'd never say something like that to him now! …Probably. I dunno, now that I contemplate the prospect, it's pretty funny imagining the look on his face. Maybe I will mess with him a little. Y'know, for old time's sake!

It's really funny to write an eight year old referring to herself as being "reeeeeal little" at four. Girl, you are STILL real little. You're so teeny tiny I could toss you over my shoulder like a sack of potatoes.

But... yeah, Peony's a big fan of Magolor! I think she should get a better taste in rolemodels, truthfully, but something tells me she's not going to take my advice on that.

rating every kirby villain-turned-ally by how evil they are after becoming an ally

dedede: gotta start with the classic. if he were an actual king i might have to judge him for the sins of his ancestors but since he's consistently called a "self-proclaimed king" he's fine. he probably just found an abandoned castle and went "woah... my castle now" and then the waddle dees went "wait we have a king? that's so awesome i'm gonna follow this guy forever." anyways he's a rival and a selfish hedonist but not actually evil. arguably not ever evil but that's a philosophical debate i'm not going to get into. while not the first to help, and still sometimes a troublemaker, he's a dependable companion when it counts

meta knight: look he was attacking dreamland in revenge of meta knight for, reasons??? because he thought they were too lazy??? kind of a lame reason meta knight. the point is he counts. meta knight spends most of his time as an honorable fight seeker, like if vegeta was never evil and his goku was a baby, but he'll step up to the plate when it's time to protect the planet or whatever. he is certified Not Evil. a reliable ally whenever he shows up

dyna blade: that's right, dyna blade counts too. as we all know dyna blade was just trying to feed her kids in super star. beyond that, i believe birds are like ghosts and just sort of do things arbitrarily. rating: Not Ever Evil

marx: okay this freaking guy. i don't think marx has changed literally at all after being beaten by kirby. like in star allies he's still got his powers. the only lesson he learned is to not pull any shenanigans while kirby's around. he is probably waiting for a villain to actually defeat kirby so he can swoop in and steal all their power, and every time kirby beats some horrible god he goes "wow~ you're such a great hero, kirby~!" while being more mad than anyone has ever been

shadow kirby: hold on i'm checking the wikirby page because i needed a refresher on his lore and was reminded that he was never actually a villain in the first place. he was always helping out. my bad

dark meta knight: okay i gotta show everyone this image before i begin my analysis

look at him. he is full fist gripping that crayon. he is holding it like a child would. he's drawing his cool badass epic sword. he's having fun. he seems like he's a threatening villain ("what if meta knight were evil... that would be so sick and twisted") but really he does not know a single thing. it's gap moe

this may be controversial but my rating is: he was never actually evil in the first place. like, he was serving dark mind, and might have had some influence in turning sectonia evil and huge (maybe??? possibly???), but he is not evil. i think he's more like that one image where he doesn't have empathy and goes into a dissociative state and commits atrocities. this of course does not imply that he is good. but the potential is there

daroach: on one hand, daroach was kind of never actually evil, since all he did was steal a slice of cake and get mind controlled. on the other hand, he IS the leader of a gang of thieves, and stealing is sort of evil. like marx, he has clearly learned not to get on kirby's bad side and will help out on occasion. but if kirby needs to grab a treasure i doubt daroach would hesitate to take it first. all in all: not a good guy exactly but in the grand scheme of kirby villains, he's pretty small-scale. not much to worry about. he can't even destroy a planet

bandana waddle dee: thought i was done talking about characters who briefly opposed kirby during super star? think again. this guy's pretty much just loyal to dedede with all that entails but he seems to have a better relationship with kirby than his king does. a nice guy who likes to help out. we all love him

magolor: i've 100% completed the magolor epilogue and minimal spoilers here but that basically confirms that he's still a little bastard. like he seems to have gone "wait, losing all your friends because you betrayed them sucks," and if you want to get speculative he could have been influenced by the master crown a bit since before KRtD's opening and that might have upped his evil rating for that game. outside of that he learned nothing. he just decided that selling gem apples and running theme parks would be more fun. he loves making an attraction where close friends throw explosives at each other. his continued pseudovillainy is of course obvious, given that he has performed the most dastardly deed of all kirby characters: Selling Real-World Microtransactions. perhaps it would be better if he got defeated once and for all but unfortunately evil wizards give kirbies lots of enrichment. unless he teams up with marx and ends up in some sort of betray-off, we're stuck with him. to be clear i think he's awesome except the microtransactions

taranza: on one hand, even in triple deluxe he wasn't exactly evil, he just wanted to help out his huge, evil friend. on the other hand, kirby did kind of kill his friend. like there were some circumstances there but it'd be understandable if there was some resentment

claycia: does it count if she was only a villain because she was mind controlled and is only an ally during the final boss fight and ending of her game? i'm going to say yes because i've already included bandana waddle dee. obviously if you were being mind controlled you probably were never evil in the first place. but we don't know much about claycia's inner life. it could go either way

hold on i was on claycia's wikirby page and i noticed that drawcia shows up alongside her in some illustrations: i've played it pretty fast and loose with my criteria but i'm going to say this doesn't count as being a villain-turned-ally. documenting my process

^one of the images in question. sectonia is also there and not only has she also never been on kirby's side in a video game, i'm pretty sure she died. so this is debatably canon at best

back to your regularly scheduled programming, it's susie: susie is like. still a capitalist. i had to review her star allies pause screens and apparently she wants to bring back her dad's evil company and keep doing colonialism? like come on susie don't be this dumb. don't make kirby take you to the guillotine

addendum: kirby-polis pointed out in the tags that the original japanese star allies pause screens do not reference mechanizing planets which opens the much more sensible possibility that she went "i want to make this company be how it was before my dad got thralled by a big evil computer." but said original pause screen text also quotes her saying "i will exterminate the uncivilized." which is... questionable at best. updated verdict: susie will be spared for now but she maybe still has some learning to do

the three mage-sisters and hyness: i guess technically hyness hasn't helped kirby out yet but he's part of the package. we do not get a great deal of insight on what the lower-end believers of their religion are like so i'm optimistic about the possibility that the whole "reviving an ancient god of destruction" incident will result in religious reforms, where the sisters take on leadership positions while hyness is reduced to having more of a figurehead role where he can't revive any more ancient gods of destruction. but they might not do that and instead continue being a weird evil cult. hard to say

the beast pack: the beast pack was only being evil because their leader was mind controlled, and presumably they would feel a great debt to kirby for saving both him and their planet. but they're also a rowdy bunch. i wouldn't be surprised if they went and caused a ruckus

I’m really a fan of your Wish Library Magolor design!

Thank you! ❤ Even though I drew it exactly one time and never really said anything about that incarnation of the character...I still enjoyed making it, and I feel it's the most finished-looking design of the bunch.

For those of you who don't remember it/never saw it:

At first I wasn't really sure what to do with the design (when you've drawn as many Magolor gijinkas as I have, eventually you start running out of ideas...) but then I came up with the face-veil and the rest of it evolved from there. ^^ I think I drew the sneaky smile first and then went "wait, I'm supposed to cover his mouth...but wait, I like his face the way it is...but wait, why not both??"

I like how he stands out from the rest of the cast; in a collection of tall, thin noodle-friends he's the only character with a short, boxy silhouette. If it weren't for his expressions and body language, he'd look like a harmless little baby...

Since you stated that (your?) Magalor is a descentend of the acients, is he a self made magician from the science side of the acients? Related to some magic acient that survived the banishment? Or since the whole deal happend so long ago, it dosent even matter at his point?

And beside the whole void termina thing, how does he feel about Hyness?

I also hc him being related to the acients (with the acients themself being an evolution of humans) so i want to know the magolor n1 stan opinion 🤔👀

I was JUST writing about how hes a culmination of both sides of the Ancients!

FIRST OF ALL THOUGH. I dont believe that the Humans became the Ancients. I will die on this hill. Adeline is a human so Im going to assume theres more settlements out there (unless Adeline has become the last of her kind). Why the Human tech revealed in Forgotten Lands is similar to the Ancients is because the two races collaborated once they came into contact with each other. Science is collaboration, baby! The two races were so close that they started sharing an alphabet so that they can understand each other, bring their joint knowledge further.

As to Magolor having magic… I do believe that he, like the rest of the Halcandrans, are descendants of the Tech side of the Ancients. He learned magic on his own somehow, and kept it secret in fear of being banished (He had to learn to lie at an early age, then). In addition, in my interp anyway, him having magic was the only reason he survived the Haltmann Invasion of Halcandra (I follow that interp too; hard to really fight against a clockwork star, eh?).

About Hyness.

Mags has seen Void Termina up close through the Crown. He knows how twisted it is. If Hyness summoned the body of the beast, the Crown held its mind. Part of it, anyway. I hced that the Ancients made the Crown to try to use the eldritch being’s power, use it for their own whims. They tried to catch the whole of its might and power, but only caught a fragment of it. For a while…it was working as intended.

Gonna go off on a tangent here for a moment — I am a believer of the Four Heroes of Yore being different races. I think that one of them was an Ancient King, who was wearing the Crown in the fight to seal away Void Termina. It was a mistake — the Void reached out, seized the power that was trapped in the crown…made the Ancient King turn against the other three. (Looks like a betrayal across the ages.)

The King was both magic and tech, but…after the magic fellows sealed away Galacta, the tech guys grew more fearful of them. It was magic that corrupted their king. The magic users must be sealed away.

Thats…what Mags had to grow with. And yet, he still dabbled in magic. Maybe he was curious! Maybe he was rebelling against what was usually taught to him! Anyway, as the years went on, he saw more and more that the Techs/Halcandrans were wrong about the magic users. Those little that found out about his magic treated him…poorly, I assume. (Jokes on them, they had nothing to defend themselves with against the Haltmanns.)

Back to Hyness! Magolor thinks that hes crazy to follow Void Termina. Mags used to follow it, as it was the force that (mis)guided him prior to and during the events of RTDL (I have a WHOLE other ramble about that. But Ive rambled enough). He knows the truth about Void. Seems that Hyness is aware too, and had wanted to use the being to destroy/conquer the universe, much like he did back in RTDL!

He can relate. To that anger, to that hate, against what the universe has done to him. Theyve both been through some horrible shit. They have both been under the influence of Void Termina, more or less. Theyve both been proven wrong about their beliefs. Both beaten by a pink puff.

Theyre both…Ancients. Mags is a far descendant but technically, still related. I think Mags would see the guy as some sort of family… I mean, I already imagine him learning more spells from the guy! They have their disagreements on how magic/spells work (Hyness may think it as a form of worship of some kind, Magolor sees it as manipulation of universe code) but they work together on them!

Ofc they also talk history, of the time before the banishment. Hyness doesnt remember it all clearly, assuming he was ALIVE back then (or he could only have been told about these things, or read them in really old texts). Piece things together. Make relics the way those Ancients used to do em (a combination of Magic AND Tech)!

PSPSPSPS TELL ME ABT MAGOLOR I wanna hear abt catboy

@seitsenpistepirjo tagging you too cus you also sent an ask abt Mags and I very much am smiling abt how you worded your ask, anyway this might be weirdly formatted cus im on mobile but I NEED to answer right now and not tomorrow.

First impression : Oh that's a fun looking character alright, oh thats cool you get to speak to him when you want. Oh you motherF-

Impression now: MY BOY MY BABY, I am literally that meme of the people pointing excited when he makes as much as a cameo in any media. Also his VOICE he sounds like a squeaky toy and I love that for him. I don't really know if any of this constitutes as an impression. There's an interesting depth to his character that would be fun to get to explore.

Favorite moment: Ok so this is very specific but hear me out. When he does that little ear wiggle in Drum Dash. This one:

Ideas for a story: So this is kind of backhanded bcs I would be mad if they established a canon that deviates from My Timeline but I would like to hear about what he did right after Return to Dream Land. What was the initial aftermath like, did Lor ever speak to him. Did he go back to Halcandra, did he apologise to Landia? I may be working on a fic revolving around this.

Unpopular opinion: I don't think he's moneyhungry. Sure, he is the shopkeeper in Kirby Clash, but I Never really saw him being greedy about it? Idk I'd think someone who literally builds theme parks as Gifts isn't in it for the money, yknow.

Favorite relationship: He and Taranza are married, need I say more. But to be fair, I think there's potential to an interesting dynamic between him and Landia. I want to know if Landia ever forgave him for what he did, does Mags look up to her?

Favourite headcanon: Oh but theres so manyyyy. Each and every type of cat behavior and characteristics I am able to shove onto him. Honorary shoutout to him having scars from the incident with Master Crown bcs scars are cool.

lor waking up in the aftermath of rtdl and it’s just the caption of that one german shepherd video that’s just “oh god babies babies very small babies oh my god”

God I wish she could’ve had that but unfortunately she did not wake up on Popstar.

Instead, she woke up after being shot down in Another Dimension, but it took her a little bit to come fully back online. By the time she did Magolor/the Master Crown had been defeated and the resulting release of energy basically popped the spacial fabric of that area of Another Dimension like a bubble, causing the void to start overtaking the area. So basically imagine you’ve been in a coma for thousands of years and when you finally wake up and get your bearings, reality is collapsing all around you, there’s a bunch of strangers, except wait four of them are Landia, and Landia is important, and the others are in trouble, ok better do something about this. No time to go “>small babies oh my god”, first order of business was making sure you, a dragon, and these people who by all means should not be here don’t get consumed by the void.

Oh, also other than Kirby and Bandana Dee, none of them are child sized/shaped, so it’d have probably happened sometime after she returned to Halcandra, was told to go back to Popstar because Halcandra got even worse while she was gone, and subsequently returned to settle in Cookie Country. People didn’t instantly warm up to her being there until several months later, when it became apparent she’s good with kids after a group did graffiti and she not only didn’t get mad but was like “>WOOOO FREE IMPROMPTU CUSTOMIZATION”, and all but encouraged it. Much to Magolor’s dismay because he was the one who had to wash it off.

I think it’d eventually become a monthly neighborhood event where paint and stickers and stuff are provided and people are invited to go nuts decorating her hull. Helps with Magolor’s reputation, encourages social interaction and creativity, and also Lor loves looking different than usual. Her physical appearance is, after all, identical to every other Starcutter of her model, other than the hue, so she appreciates having a day to not be a recolor. Though, that doesn’t quite apply anymore, given that she’s the last first-generation Starcutter...

Anyways that was one huge tangent huh?

Here's a little fanart between Anne's Hatte and Darrel having a first meet.

Knowing Hatte's rude nature, Darrel wouldn't be swayed and angered by him. Crazy enough, he would actually enjoy the insults Hatte would give and his company too. One common parasite to another I'd say.

Not Possessed- Nil being who he is, his head eye closed and his pupils are normal

Possessed- Change in voice and eye changes to black while pupil becomes white. The eye on his head is open and spiteful, will only see this form whenever Darrel needs to step in.

Enraged- Nil's emotions overflowing because of someone's actions or intent, entire face will be black except for the left part of his eye becoming white. The Eye Head is nowhere to be seen... where could it be

Full Control (RUN) R.U.N or "Regicide Under Nil" is the codename transformation whenever Darrel is in full control of Nil. His body is completely covered in darkness and his smile is an eye, similar to Magolor's eye mouth. Whenever this happens, you must've been the poor scumbag to have made Nil cry. Hope you said your goodbyes, no one lives whenever Nil is extremely distraught.
