Michael is biracial. His mother (Clara) is Lummi, having moved from Washington state after marrying William.

he's also trans (FtM), having socially transitioned from a young age. William was hesitant to accept this at first, but eventually gave in seeing how both Clara & Henry were supportive

Being the eldest, Michael was forced into third-parenting his youngest siblings. Elizabeth is four years younger than him & Garrett is six years younger. This absolutely causes some resentment in Michael, which he usually takes out on Garrett.

Michael's best friend is Charlotte Emily, who he used to have a crush on -- but backed off after she turned him down. They're still very close.

then there's Jeremy. He's always been in Michael's friend group, and he even shares a band with Sammy Emily! The two get closer after Charlotte rejections him.

Jeremy even picks up a job at Freddy Fazbear's just to spend more time with Michael. They'll sneak out and meet each other, Jeremy writes songs for Michael, etc etc -- but they still maintain that they are NOT dating.

it's bc Michael sucks when it comes to intimacy. His mother used to be loving, but grew distant over the years. After Michael shoves Garrett's head in Fredbear's mouth, Clara emotionally removes herself from her own child and turns neglectful. Any care for Elizabeth and Garrett soon falls on Michael's shoulders.

Despite what anyone else might assume: Michael's a great student. He never misses a day, he has straight A's in all his classes

There was an attempt to learn about robotics from William, but it was quickly dropped. Michael turned his focus on Henry next, who was more than willing to share his passions, albeit a little overbearing.

Michael excessively chews gum bc of stress. It's a better alternative than smoking, he tells himself.

He's quiet, but don't be fooled-- Michael's got the sass. When he's around someone he's comfortable with, he's a lot more open (like Jeremy, Charlotte, & Sammy).

Mike has a bad reputation for constantly getting into fights, but no one ever sees him fighting. It's a misunderstanding, since his fellow peers see bruises from William & just assume that Michael gets into fights outside of home/school. Why would they think William was doing it, after all? He's such a goofy man!

Michael likes to drag Jeremy into his work-out sessions & self-defense classes

After William disappears (Clara has already left for Washington again), Michael becomes Elizabeth & Garrett's legal guardian. Jeremy also moves in with them to help take some pressure off of Michael

Mike ends up getting a job as a robotics tech, giving Jeremy the chance to be a stay at home partner & focus on his music career

and just some general (angsty) ideas for FNAF 3 + PizzaSim:

Michael went for the job at Fazbear Frights after accidentally catching sight of the Spring Bonnie animatronic in some promotional material. He went in cautiously, but after confirming that William was indeed inside the suit? That's when he chose to burn the place down & return home to his family.

This was the same idea he had in mind when he joined Henry in setting up the PizzaSim location: get in, get the animatronics together, free the souls, burn the place down, go home.

It doesn't work out that way, unfortunately. Michael's escape route ends up blocked off by debris, trapping him inside despite his best attempts to get back home.

hello anon, thank you very much for the question! :D

to preface this i'll say i do have a few different AUs that all kind of vaguely exist in my mind but i'll presume you wanna hear about my main AU. i like to describe it as "fnaf lore if it didn't suck", i try to stick to canon by keeping major events mostly the same so if you already know fnaf lore you won't be too confused at my AU. i also like to focus more on the tragedy aspects of the lore, so in my writing there's a lot of focus on characters and their emotions, particularly william because i like to psychoanalyze him. but i also want to give more depth to the characters in general and put some spotlight on the missing kids since like… they are barely treated as important in canon and that's kind of sad

putting the rest under the cut cause this post got pretty long (talks about AU features, and a lot about henry and william)

i actually do have a breakdown of some of the key features of my AU! -less sci-fi, more paranormal like old fnaf -willry canon for shits and giggles (past tense)(they are like a divorced couple) -semi-good dad william (until the horrors) -more complex character dynamics, personalities, etc. -relationships expanded upon -more focus on the tragedy aspect -a mildly comprehensive timeline! -transgenderism (william is trans bc i believe it in my heart to be true) -ends at fnaf 6/pizza sim! (UCN is more of like, an epilogue)

if you're curious about my william and henry, i try to base them mostly off the novels! (though novel lore is irrelevant here, since i follow game canon instead, it's still a good basis for their personalities)

so, william is "the normal one", mostly running the business side of things but still a talented inventor and a great entertainer as well. he's silly, he's goofy, he's charming, and he loves the kids! and he loves his family more than anything, even though he's not the most amazing parent! so naturally no one would suspect him to be a murderer. cause underneath all that he's very selfish, willing to go to any lengths to achieve his goals. when CC died he kind of snapped, killing charlie on impulse (but discovering animatronic posession later after observing fredbear and the puppet behaving strangely) thus starting the whole remnant thing. remnant exists still but its more just like a concept than a physical, tangible thing; it's the part of the soul that cannot move on.

and henry is the artist, the recluse who prefers to remain out of the public eye and always seems to be off in another world. he doesn't like talking with people much but i imagine he's very passionate about fredbear's and feels more confident whilst performing as fredbear (like how william does with springbonnie). he's a better dad than william but that's not a super high bar to beat and he unintentionally kind of neglects his kids a lot. which is why the security puppet exists, to keep them safe (didn't quite work. RIP!) i think him and william are actually more similar than either of them would care to admit. henry is a selfish man who'd do anything to achieve his goals too, which is why the murders are covered up and fazbear entertainment keeps going. and also why fnaf 6 happens.

more about charlie's death. it puts a strain on henry and william's relationship, but henry also doesn't want to believe that his partner did it. but i think somewhere in the back of his mind, he absolutely knows. they stick together for a while, but after the missing children's incident henry completely kicks william out of the company. william almost gets convicted, but he's let off since cops couldn't find evidence (henry almost does too but is also let off). and after that william decides to lay low for a while and fuck off to somewhere else. what does he do? shrugs. sister location would happen a while after this and so on and so forth. i could elaborate more if you have any more specific questions!

FNAF: Enigma (general info)

Enigma is a whump AU I created at the end of either 2020 or 2021, for the life of me I don’t remember. Keep in mind I started it well before Security Breach, and before Vanessa was properly introduced, when Vanny was also very ambiguous so I took what I knew (the mask and rainbow hair, referenced in the AR game) and pulled out my version of Vanny: a lesbian disaster with a rough past.

The premise of this AU is: William has been researching remnant—how it’s made, it’s effects, etc—and has amassed a cult following of various outcasts of society (whether they want to be there or not), and he’s turned his sights on Vanny. She is trying to live her life, but is haunted by a dark past and has a body count, making her a good candidate for William to manipulate into becoming a prolific killer. Vanny doesn’t want to join him, so he, knowing that she and Michael are very close (a sort of father/daughter relationship), takes Michael hostage in order to get her to cooperate. Michael is punished when Vanny doesn’t cooperate, and is sometimes a bit of a punching bag for some of the more sadistic cultists.

The timeline for this is. Convoluted but this is FNAF so. FNAF 4, 2, and the original occur as in the games, in that order, including both the Bite of 83 (victim being Cassidy Afton—yes I’m calling him Cassidy it’s a cute name) and the Bite of 87 (victim being Jeremy Fitzgerald; at the time, Michael’s bf). Michael goes undercover as Mike Schmidt to figure out wtf is going on, figured out his father is responsible for the deaths of the 5 missing children (vengeful spirit Cassidy is different from Crying Child Cassidy), and sets out to bring his father to justice. Shortly after Michael leaves the FNAF 1 location, the restaurant closes and William suffers the springlock failure, but, instead of being left in the supply closet for 30 years, he’s found by the members of his cult and extracted from the spring Bonnie suit. Michael ventures to sister location, where he is scooped, and after ejecting Ennard into the sewers (gross), he circles back to Henry Emily to figure out what to do, where they decided to end the madness once and for all, leading to the events of Pizzeria Simulator. Vanny joins the team a few years in (collecting all of the scrapped animatronics is difficult and takes a while), and is clued in to Michael’s past, as they both are haunted from their own mistakes and the mistakes of their fathers. No, FNAF 3 does not happen

William’s cult started as research into remnant and how it works, discovered shortly after Charlie Emily’s murder in 1987 (a week before the murders of the 5 missing children). Most of the members of the cult are those who were preyed upon at their lowest and have no way to leave, and were tempted by William giving them promises of ways to fix their problems. The others are genuinely sadistic and enjoy causing pain and misery.

Miscellaneous info:

Mrs. Clara Afton was a lesbian when she was alive, marrying William (a gay man) in the late 60’s in order to present as a heterosexual couple. They also had kids in order to keep up that facade. She was murdered by William after Elizabeth’s death, as she planned on leaving him and taking Michael with her

Charlie Emily and Michael Afton were close as children. Even more unfortunate that Charlie saw William as a sort of uncle, leading her to trust him, which is why he was able to kill her (she was 15 at the time)

Michael Afton is trans. Just for funsies. William may be a murderer but he’s not a monster (transphobic)

Sammy Emily is still alive. He and Michael weren’t as close as Michael and Charlie were, but after Charlie’s death they became closer, almost brothers

Vanessa Howard had a younger sister, Lea, who couldn’t pronounce “Vanessa,” and instead called her “Vanny.”

William’s design (half rotted corpse gnarled with twisted, rusted metal) is very much so inspired by his design in The Fourth Closet (keep in mind I haven’t read the books)
