how did you manage to get the game in english and japanese? i’ve been trying for some time but it seems like the only way is just with another device. thank you and i love your writing btw
Thank you so much! And I have both apps on my iphone, I just needed a Japanese itunes account! I downloaded it via the Japanese itunes store and then I log out back into my regular account and everything works just fine! You just have to log back into the japanese account when updates are needed
I was put off from doing it for awhile bc the other Admin said that you couldn’t get a Japanese account without having some type of card on it (which would be me having to buy a Japanese Itunes card) but it didn’t make me put in any type of payment method when I made my account a few weeks ago! There are a lot of guides online like this one that help with the creation of the other account.
~Writer Admin
Gonna go ahead and clarify that you did need to have a payment method when you made an account years ago when I started playing JP games but I guess they changed that at some point

~~~~~
🇺🇸
The question was, whether the show’s legally available to watch in Germany (yes, it is, you can buy a season pass on several streaming platforms, however it’s NOT available on Netflix…) with episodes available roughly around the same time as in the US (there’s usually a 24hrs delay until new episodes become available).
There are many other countries where the show’s either available on regular TV (@lire-casander mentioned it will air on HBO Spain the day after the US broadcast, it should also be available on HBO Nordic, and in Canada it airs on Showcase at the same time as in the US, I’m sure there are other countries I’m not aware of where it’s on TV). If it doesn’t air on TV, there’s often an option to buy a season pass via iTunes, Google Play and other streaming platforms.
Buying a season pass does support the show btw, streaming sales ‘count’ towards ratings (not directly, but you know what I mean), and they might even convince a broadcaster in your country to buy the show and air it.
Serology, Murder Timeline, and Scrivener 3
November 20, 2017
This week in the WRITERSDETECTIVE Q&A forum on Facebook had some great questions and discussion that I wanted to expand upon:
STORY SCIENCE: Serology Dan asked a great question about blood on clothing, and whether modern Forensic Science could determine how long the droplet of blood had been there. Terri quickly found a link on chemistryviews.org that revealed researchers have developed a laser-based technology, called Raman Spectroscopy, that can determine Time Since Deposit (TSD) if the blood stain is less than two years old. This is a pretty exciting and promising technology. The most important passage in this article is in paragraph four, "At the moment, crime scene investigators have no single validated approach to determine when a blood stain might have been deposited." I would take that to mean it will be possible to use in Court in the very near future. The term Forensic Science literally means Science applied to Law. So while the technology is here (or nearly here), we have to wait for the Courts/Attorneys to argue its acceptance into law. This is what delays its admissibility in Court. So if you want to include Raman Spectroscopy into your own story, your investigators should realize that this cutting edge technology can point them in the right direction, but it will be a hard fought battle in Court to prove the science behind it admissible. This study of TSD has been pursued for a while now. I found this article from 2011 about TSD on WritersForensicsBlog.com, which is another site you should definitely bookmark for all things CSI-writing related! As I suggested to Dan in the Q&A: Whenever you find a particular research area you want to delve into, especially emerging sciences, don't be afraid to send an email to the scientists behind these discoveries. Many people in science are happy to share knowledge when someone outside of the science community shows an interest...especially when it may end up in a book!
STORY SCIENCE: Serology Part II As I was researching Dan's question, I also discovered other emerging serology techniques that will soon help crack whodunnit cases wide open. Researchers at the University at Albany have, in addition to determining TSD, been able to determine the approximate age of the blood's originator using the alkaline phosphatase (ALP) as a marker. These researchers are working on creating a real-time CSI kit that will one day provide approximate suspect age, and even gender, without the need for a Crime Lab! I also discovered that researchers at the Department of Pharmacy and Forensic Science at King's College London have used machine learning via artificial neural networks to crunch DNA data (I am WAY oversimplifying here), to improve age estimations of DNA originators. These researchers have been able to estimate the age of a person, based on their DNA sample, to within a 3.8 year accuracy!
STORYTELLING TECHNIQUES: LINING UP YOUR CLUES Heather posted a comment about the troubles of lining up and following the clues within her story. Here’s what I had to say:
I wish I had writing advice for you, but alas, that is not my expertise. I can, however, offer some advice on how we really work cases...which may help you fill in the outline of your story. We all obviously understand that the goal of your investigator (likely your protagonist) is to find the truth of the matter: what exactly occurred (determine the crimes), who was responsible (who to arrest and prosecute), why it happened (motive), etc. HOW a Detective goes about that is by forming a timeline of what happened, based on the totality of the knowledge at hand. This means every interview, every piece of evidence discovered and analyzed, the data dumps from cell phone search warrants, the time stamp on video surveillance, -all of it- is plotted on a giant time line. I mean this literally. We have a "war-room" (a conference room with a lockable door) in our Detective Bureau that we use during active homicide investigations, where a time-line is drawn on a white-board. (There is also a task-list that shows what task each detective has been assigned and whether it's been completed.) As new facts are discovered, they are plotted on the timeline board for everyone working the case to see at a glance. Obviously, this dry-erase board drawing isn't the formal document - all of that is done via the written word in dozens or even hundreds of reports and a Crime Analyst will likely create a formal visualization of the timeline as a document. But you get the idea. That timeline often starts with the first 9-1-1 call that notified us of the crime. My goal, as a Detective, is to fill that timeline in. By doing so, it will paint the full picture of the crime and not only point to who is responsible, it will also show alibi factors for other suspects/conspirators/accessories/witnesses at a glance. It will also help us spot inconsistencies in stories quickly. I'd suggest Authors try working this process BACKWARD. Since you're the omnicient storyteller (sorry, Pantsers...this may be tough if you can't stand planning out your stories), I'd start with creating the entire timeline of the events leading up to the crime, the commission of the crime, and then what happens after the crime in chronological order. This is all reference material for you to use as you create the story. Your story, most likely, won't start at the beginning of your Omnicient Timeline. It will probably start with the inciting incident of either the commission of the crime, or the discovery of the crime. From there, your story will be about the order in which the earlier bits of the timeline are discovered by the Detective. Does the Coroner/ME provide a time of death window? Plot it on the time-line. When was the victim last seen alive? Plot it. When was the last phone call made by the victim? Plot it. When was the last ATM/Credit Card use by the victim? Plot it. Sooner or later, the window of unknowns on the timeline starts to narrow...allowing your Detectives to gain some insight into where the case is heading. Obviously, take this advice with a grain of salt...being as I have not been in your chair as the author (tip of the hat in respect, BTW). However, I hope some explanation of how real investigations happen may help you form your own way of having characters discover the clues/events in your own story. I hope this helps, -Adam
WRITING TOOLS: Scrivener 3* My favorite writing software got a long awaited update today! I know many of you already use Scrivener to compile your research, characters, scenes, and drafts. Today, Literature & Latte released Scrivener 3!* The look is still very much what you are used to seeing in Scrivener 2, but updated with more modern appearance, and they have added some great new functionality. Best of all, if you are upgrading from Scrivener 2, you will get a $20 discount (making Scrivener 3 only $25.) As always, L&L still offers a 30-day trial of Scrivener...and that's an actual 30-days of use, not thirty calendar days. IMPORTANT NOTE: If you purchased Scrivener 2 through Apple's Mac App Store (instead of the Literature & Latte website), you need to send a copy of your App Store proof of purchase to: [email protected] If you are even considering upgrading to Scrivener 3 and you bought v2 from the App Store, send your discount request in NOW. They are sending out Discount Codes in the order they are received. I sent my receipt in early (yesterday, before the v3 release today) and I received my discount code mid-afternoon today. I forwarded the email I received from iTunes when I purchased v2 back in 2015. If you are better at clearing out your inbox than I am, you may have to request a copy of your receipt from Apple by going to: http://ift.tt/2anigg0
WRITING TOOLS: Free Training for Scrivener 3* Gwen Hernandez at ScrivenerClasses.com offers online courses for learning Scrivener. She just created a FREE mini course for those of us upgrading from Scrivener 2 to Scrivener 3. It's called Jump into Scrivener 3: Your transition guide for Mac. Even if you just want to see a few videos on what the new version looks like, it's worth checking out. You don't need to provide any info to view the mini course.
Changes in the new iTunes ( a review)
Learn about changes to Apps, iTunes U, Internet Radio, and more.
You mean, let’s see how much you’ve fucked up iTunes again?
The new iTunes focuses on music, movies, TV shows, podcasts, and audiobooks. Apps for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch are now exclusively available in the new App Store for iOS. And the new App Store makes it easy to get, update, and redownload apps—all without a Mac or PC.
‘makes it easy to get, update, and redownload apps’ FUCK OFF. My iPod can’t access the bloody app store, so how the fuck am I going to re-install a fucking app via iTunes if the only solution to re-install them is to access them via the ‘purchased’ tab VIA your device?
You'll find these changes in the new iTunes:
Apps: Looking for your past iOS app downloads? Learn how to redownload apps on your iOS device.
iTunes U: Collections of iTunes U content appear in the Podcasts section of iTunes.
Internet Radio: Your Internet Radio stations appear in your music library's sidebar. Click Edit in the sidebar to show or hide Internet Radio.
Ringtones: iOS 11 supports redownloading ringtones directly to your iOS device, without the need to use iTunes on your Mac or PC.
Books on Windows: Books on iTunes for Windows are managed in iBooks for iOS. Learn how to redownload books on an iOS device.
Manage media, files, and other content on your iOS device
You have absolutely NO IDEA HOW MUCH HARDER (OR IMPOSSIBLE, REALLY), OR MORE PAINFUL IT IS to MANAGE everything on an apple device now. It’s fucking inconvenient to not have easy access to things in your device that you can see listed so you don’t have to connect to your device every time just to view what’s already in your device. Christ.
Connect your iOS device to your computer with a USB cable to sync music, movies, TV shows, and audiobooks using iTunes. You can also back up your device using iTunes.
YEAH YEAH, it’s still relatively ‘easy’ not to have issues syncing movies, TV shows and audiobooks using iTunes because those fucking things still exist on the iTunes tabs.
If you want to copy files between your computer and apps on your iOS device, use File Sharing.
Let me parse this sentence: “ We have purposely inconvenienced you so that you’ll have to rely on ‘file sharing’ *cough* iCloud to easily back up/ share/copy files to your iOS device. We have given you free space of up to 2GB, but surely people have more than 2GB of shit worth backing up so you just gotta pay up for more space because $$$$$”
You can find iOS apps, ringtones, and books (PC only) that you've already downloaded in your iTunes Media folder.
Did ya’ll purposely make this so we PC users can feel more involved in managing our files? Because this is literally shit that we already know about. Any Apple device user who uses a PC knows this shit. What is this about telling us PC users this? This isn’t a new change at all. Stop selling this as a ‘new and improved’ schtick the latest iTunes provides. Is this to show how much more interesting it is for PC users to micro-manage their shit in their iOS device? Because this is SO not the way to do it. I’ve tried this, and it’s FUCKING annoying and tedious. Oh, btw my problem lies with apps and books mainly, the music aspect hasn’t been thoroughly fucked by Apple as of yet.
If you have an iOS app, ringtone, or book that's no longer available for redownload, you can move that content to your iOS device while plugged in to a computer with a USB cable.
Oh, jesus.
Glooko: iPhone Diabetes Logging Made Super-Easy
New Post has been published on http://type2diabetestreatment.net/diabetes-mellitus/glooko-iphone-diabetes-logging-made-super-easy/
Glooko: iPhone Diabetes Logging Made Super-Easy
Suddenly, it seems to be raining diabetes iPhone apps. Many of them offer sophisticated graphing of your glucose data, or educational materials, medication reminders, training videos, and even links to purchase supplies. Notice that NOT ONE of the logging apps offers a way around manual entry of your numbers — ugh!
New Glooko, due on the market Nov. 15, aims to change all that. It will be the first available plug-in cable between popular glucose meter models and the iPhone/ iPad that automatically "sucks up" your data, and offers a very simple logbook-style app to view it.
The company's motto is "free your data"!
When I say this app is simple, I mean SIMPLE. No graphs, no quizzes, no reminders. No fancy stuff. At least in version 1.0.
All Glooko does is offer a very clean interface that allows users to view 14 days' worth of glucose data, add some meal tags and notes on carb intake, dosing, activity and mood, and with the push of a "share" button, send that data to your doctor or other providers via email or fax.
But to a lot of people, Simple is Good.
That's what Glooko, a small startup company of seven people based in Palo Alto, CA, is betting on — scores of PWDs out there who mostly test just a few times a day, and currently aren't doing anything to capture their data. Now they'll have an easy way to connect their meter* via a simple cable to their iPhone or iPad for a quick data download that produces a very clear, easily printable one-pager for them and their doctor to review.
The MeterSync Cable portion will go on sale at Amazon.com for $39.95, and the app will be free at the iTunes store.
*Bayer Contour, OneTouch, and FreeStyle meters are supported, which make up 50% of all meters used by people with diabetes, Glooko claims. The FreeStyle meters require a small adapter, which comes free of charge with Glooko's MeterSync Cable.
When Glooko ships in mid-November, it will be the first product to enable automatic data downloading from your glucose meter to a smartphone.
Note that AgaMatrix's iPhone/iPad cable connector, previewed last summer, has been "strategically held back" from market for distribution reasons, that company tells me. (Waiting on the iBGStar?) It only works with the WaveSense Jazz meter anyway.
Interestingly, one of three Glooko co-founders is Anita Mathew, formerly of JnJ Lifescan. She was the woman who stood on stage and made the presentation of Lifescan's then-groundbreaking iPhone app for diabetes, at Apple's iPhone OS 3.0 Preview Event here in San Francisco back in 2009. That app turned out to be Vaporware! (it never came to market), which frustrated the hell out of Anita, along with many others 😮 — which is one clear reason why Anita is with Glooko today.
"This is essentially the technology that we developed, but they never did anything with it," Anita says. "Our co-founder Yogan Dalal (a successful an entrepreneur and engineer) has pre-diabetes and works hard to control his glucose levels. His feeling was, 'Let's get something out there people can use now that actually makes their lives easier. It's a building block — it's one more step you've eliminated for me.' Right now it's functional, not sexy."
Without the algorithms for identifying trends, they're aiming mostly at Type 2's and women with gestational diabetes, who will appreciate an easy-to-use electronic logbook. This lack of algorithms is actually what's helping the company toss this app to market directly, bypassing the FDA; a so-called Class 1 device — that does no manipulation of data, but only moves data from point A to point B — does not require 510k approval.
But Glooko does plan to expand on its offerings and apply for FDA approval of more sophisticated features next year.
"Glooko provides doctors something to trust because the readings are downloaded," Anita notes. "Right now, 80% of diabetics out there don't see endos, and many of them are just not engaged at all with their diabetes care."
Are there similar products out there? Yes, of course. Two that come to mind as the most obvious would-be competitors are iGlucose and WellDoc, both covered in our AADE report on mobile diabetes management tools this summer.
iGlucose, still under development, is a device that patients can attach to whatever glucose meter brand they use, via a universal cable, to automatically download and transmit the most recent data to a server, where BG readings can be viewed on a web portal. So it's not a smartphone app. And it's not yet been FDA cleared. Also, it appears to focus on providing information to the caregiver, rather than patients themselves.
WellDoc, on the other hand, is a sophisticated diabetes program based in your smartphone, but it is marketed to patients and healthcare professionals for use together as a team effort. This means patients will not be able to use this phone-based system completely on their own. It's being distributed via employer groups and health care plans. And, like most everything else, it requires manual entry of glucose numbers.
Maybe it's just me, but I find Glooko's "building block" approach interesting, mainly because no one else seems to be playing in this space. For example, I can imagine my mom, who monitors her numbers once or twice a day for pre-diabetes treatment, using this super-easy cable plug-in (if and when she gets an iPhone, that is!). I mean, she hates having to write the numbers down (who doesn't?) and often forgets.
The Glooko cable is not eligible for insurance coverage, btw, but you can write off the cost on your HSA - health care spending account.
To be fair and balanced, we must note that not everyone thinks iPhone apps for diabetes are the best thing since sliced bread. Outspoken diabetes industry consultant David Kliff, aka Diabetic Investor, had this to say when queried:
"The basic premise of all of these companies is that patients will actually take the time to attach the device to their iPhone, and then, working with their apps manage their diabetes better. As I have also noted in the past, all of these efforts are targeted at insulin-using patients, as they value this information and would benefit most from the information. I think a more relevant question is, who's writing all these apps and are they actually helping the patient?"
Duly noted. But it looks like Glooko is trying to bridge the gap to Type 2's by offering them a super-simple plug-in solution. Can't fault them for trying, I say.
Serology, Murder Timeline, and Scrivener 3
November 20, 2017
This week in the WRITERSDETECTIVE Q&A forum on Facebook had some great questions and discussion that I wanted to expand upon:
STORY SCIENCE: Serology Dan asked a great question about blood on clothing, and whether modern Forensic Science could determine how long the droplet of blood had been there. Terri quickly found a link on chemistryviews.org that revealed researchers have developed a laser-based technology, called Raman Spectroscopy, that can determine Time Since Deposit (TSD) if the blood stain is less than two years old. This is a pretty exciting and promising technology. The most important passage in this article is in paragraph four, "At the moment, crime scene investigators have no single validated approach to determine when a blood stain might have been deposited." I would take that to mean it will be possible to use in Court in the very near future. The term Forensic Science literally means Science applied to Law. So while the technology is here (or nearly here), we have to wait for the Courts/Attorneys to argue its acceptance into law. This is what delays its admissibility in Court. So if you want to include Raman Spectroscopy into your own story, your investigators should realize that this cutting edge technology can point them in the right direction, but it will be a hard fought battle in Court to prove the science behind it admissible. This study of TSD has been pursued for a while now. I found this article from 2011 about TSD on WritersForensicsBlog.com, which is another site you should definitely bookmark for all things CSI-writing related! As I suggested to Dan in the Q&A: Whenever you find a particular research area you want to delve into, especially emerging sciences, don't be afraid to send an email to the scientists behind these discoveries. Many people in science are happy to share knowledge when someone outside of the science community shows an interest...especially when it may end up in a book!
STORY SCIENCE: Serology Part II As I was researching Dan's question, I also discovered other emerging serology techniques that will soon help crack whodunnit cases wide open. Researchers at the University at Albany have, in addition to determining TSD, been able to determine the approximate age of the blood's originator using the alkaline phosphatase (ALP) as a marker. These researchers are working on creating a real-time CSI kit that will one day provide approximate suspect age, and even gender, without the need for a Crime Lab! I also discovered that researchers at the Department of Pharmacy and Forensic Science at King's College London have used machine learning via artificial neural networks to crunch DNA data (I am WAY oversimplifying here), to improve age estimations of DNA originators. These researchers have been able to estimate the age of a person, based on their DNA sample, to within a 3.8 year accuracy!
STORYTELLING TECHNIQUES: LINING UP YOUR CLUES Heather posted a comment about the troubles of lining up and following the clues within her story. Here’s what I had to say:
I wish I had writing advice for you, but alas, that is not my expertise. I can, however, offer some advice on how we really work cases...which may help you fill in the outline of your story. We all obviously understand that the goal of your investigator (likely your protagonist) is to find the truth of the matter: what exactly occurred (determine the crimes), who was responsible (who to arrest and prosecute), why it happened (motive), etc. HOW a Detective goes about that is by forming a timeline of what happened, based on the totality of the knowledge at hand. This means every interview, every piece of evidence discovered and analyzed, the data dumps from cell phone search warrants, the time stamp on video surveillance, -all of it- is plotted on a giant time line. I mean this literally. We have a "war-room" (a conference room with a lockable door) in our Detective Bureau that we use during active homicide investigations, where a time-line is drawn on a white-board. (There is also a task-list that shows what task each detective has been assigned and whether it's been completed.) As new facts are discovered, they are plotted on the timeline board for everyone working the case to see at a glance. Obviously, this dry-erase board drawing isn't the formal document - all of that is done via the written word in dozens or even hundreds of reports and a Crime Analyst will likely create a formal visualization of the timeline as a document. But you get the idea. That timeline often starts with the first 9-1-1 call that notified us of the crime. My goal, as a Detective, is to fill that timeline in. By doing so, it will paint the full picture of the crime and not only point to who is responsible, it will also show alibi factors for other suspects/conspirators/accessories/witnesses at a glance. It will also help us spot inconsistencies in stories quickly. I'd suggest Authors try working this process BACKWARD. Since you're the omnicient storyteller (sorry, Pantsers...this may be tough if you can't stand planning out your stories), I'd start with creating the entire timeline of the events leading up to the crime, the commission of the crime, and then what happens after the crime in chronological order. This is all reference material for you to use as you create the story. Your story, most likely, won't start at the beginning of your Omnicient Timeline. It will probably start with the inciting incident of either the commission of the crime, or the discovery of the crime. From there, your story will be about the order in which the earlier bits of the timeline are discovered by the Detective. Does the Coroner/ME provide a time of death window? Plot it on the time-line. When was the victim last seen alive? Plot it. When was the last phone call made by the victim? Plot it. When was the last ATM/Credit Card use by the victim? Plot it. Sooner or later, the window of unknowns on the timeline starts to narrow...allowing your Detectives to gain some insight into where the case is heading. Obviously, take this advice with a grain of salt...being as I have not been in your chair as the author (tip of the hat in respect, BTW). However, I hope some explanation of how real investigations happen may help you form your own way of having characters discover the clues/events in your own story. I hope this helps, -Adam
