i write a lot of HEs... perhaps only an echo, since the entire premise of that (unfinished) series is an AU where Wu Xie isn't there to fulfill his ten-year promise with Xiaoge. rather than angsty endings, i write more angsty stories? in which case, the angstiest might be 千里自同风 | no distance too great as a canon-compliant post-canon fic that follows Fang Duobing's journey of grief. (but i don't think the ending of that is sad, tbh.) alternatively, 飞蛾扑火 | for you, i'll gladly burn is another contender given Shen Yi's big reveal in the last chapter (but also don't think the ending is sad). 红尘似水，万事入歌 | the world becomes song is pretty sad too if only because we the readers know the characters' fates in canon.

honestly, i think most of my fics are HEs. or if not "happy," comforting for sure. most of my fics end with a promise to be together, to spend an ordinary life together, to have the chance to be in the moment together. it might not be super, like, grand or dramatic or anything - but i genuinely think all my fics have peaceful endings. so take your pick, peruse my works～

atmosphere and rhythm, i think. maybe because i used to write a lot of poetry? i also have faith in my world-building (bc i do a LOT of research) and dialogue. in terms of tropes, it must undoubtedly be hurt/comfort.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

i'm not good at writing fight/action scenes (probably another reason why i literally cannot write smut). i also don't think i'm super great at description, but i think i've been improving.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

this is an interesting question because i actually write all my dialogue in Chinese first and then tl it to English since i pretty exclusively write for c-media now 😆 i like that a lot bc i think it helps me to more accurately characterize these ppl - but also it sucks tremendously when English is just the ugliest-sounding language in the world, LOL. (i always think my original Chinese dialogue is prettier and has more depth～)

19. First fandom you wrote for?

the first fandom i posted fic on AO3 for was Good Omens: i love(d) you. but in my life, it was probably like... Warriors (yes, the cats) or Shugo Chara..? idk, or maybe Case Closed (still love that series despite how insufferably long it's gotten).

yes i think i did mention that once! tbh, it's true, i need to be in a very specific headspace to write smut bc i find it challenging at times. i am very inexperienced w writing smut, and i just think it's easier to write the other parts of a story. i totally understand i get new followers all the time, and they're not always aware of my rules, but i do wish there was just better common courtesy when sending writers asks? like i know i'm not the only writer struggling w these pressuring requests from readers since i've talked to a couple of my other mutuals ab this that share similar feelings

honestly, i have a hard time deciding on one single favorite character on er, just because a) there are so many characters i absolutely adore (mark, susan, carter, benton, lucy, and neela among them), and b) my answer tends to change based on the era.

that said, forced to choose, i'd say my all-time favorite er character is abby lockhart.

while certainly there are some parts of abby's storyline i enjoy more than others—i've never really liked any of her canon romances, tbh—in terms of her personality and overall arc, i find her so endlessly compelling.

given what her background is, she reads exactly as she ought to.

she is so real and three-dimensional and dynamic!

watching the way she evolves over the course of her nine years on the show is one of the great delights of er's later seasons for me.

and, of course, maura tierney is such a consummate actress! i can only imagine that had she not been in direct competition with west wing-era allison janney for most of her er career, she probably would have much more major award show hardware on her mantel for this role.

just on a pure character design level, i love abby's wry, sardonic sense of humor; that she is a fellow minnesotan and has that "well, i guess this may as well happen—" kind of fatalistic midwestern outlook; how she occasionally is possessed of a streak of "bored housecat" naughtiness; how deeply she cares about her patients and will go out on limbs for them, oftentimes literally; her complicated relationships with her family members; how steel-trap clever she is; the way she struggles with her self-esteem; how she has to really work to initially find her confidence and speak up but then becomes such a firebrand (and sometimes rebel) in the department; her love for dead flowers; her deadpan comedic scenes; that she has some of the deepest, most fleshed-out female friendships on the show (particularly with kerry and neela); the way she so often self-sabotages and then has to deal with the consequences but always does deal with them, however roughshod the effort; how she gradually overcomes her hard start in life and eventually grows into this really graceful, wise, centered person, both professionally and personally; etc., etc., etc.

i also love that her story isn't a linear one: that she starts and stalls, not only along her path to becoming a doctor but also with her own recovery from alcoholism and her mental health issues; her interpersonal relationships and her struggles with her own self-doubt.

the way she is written is remarkable in a good way.

she is allowed to make mistakes to a degree that few female main characters on primetime television ever are—to fuck up royally and even at times be downright unlikeable—and yet she is also allowed to progress, however slowly and unevenly, and to grow.

to me, her long-in-coming triumphs are that much sweeter and more earned because of her numerous setbacks and failings along the way. you really do travel a wending road with her, and by the time you reach the end of it, the destination is so welcome.

there are multiple abby-centric episodes that are among my favorites of the whole series, including episodes 07x07 "rescue me," 10x12 "nicu," 11x10 "skin," and 14x08 "coming home."

i've said it before, but i have never seen such a well-done character sendoff episode on any series as episode 15x03 "the book of abby," which serves as a bittersweet, beautiful forty-five minute love letter to our much-beloved protagonist as she leaves county general for the last time.

her overall arc is one of the best examples of character development i've ever had the pleasure to watch.

Nah, I'm just kidding. Or am I?

It's a bit unconfirmed at the moment tbh. It's either going to be Lust or Wrath, or even both. Now, before you vilify me and nail me to a cross, when I say Lust, I don't mean in the sexual kind.

See, most people assume Lust is associated with sex because, well, that's the usual imagery; the same way Gluttony is associated with food. But considering that the other 7 Deadly Sins aren't associated with material objects, how come these are? For example, Greed isn't necessarily about money. It can be about other kinds of possessions or even non-physical things like power. Greed (the character) in Full Metal Alchemist is an example of this; his greed was about friendship.

In the context of my fanfic, Lust is associated with passion. The drive of someone to do something simply because they're passionate about it. Anne's power was always about willpower because, you know...

HEART!!!

As I've written before, her power works by giving her the ability to circumvent defeat through the power of determination. Every time she's put down, she'll stand back up and grows stronger until she's strong enough to no longer get her butt kicked. Basically, as long as Anne believes she can win, SHE WILL NEVER LOSE.

See, that's a reason why I said Anne's power is bullshit. She quite literally has plot armor/main character "never give up" powers.

This is where passion/Lust comes into the mix. Her passion and willpower to win against any challenge give her an infinite boost. She starts off being able to barely take on a toad in combat to later on, ripping trees out of the ground or breaking castles by punching it. If you don't beat her early, she will outpace you.

Now you know why I chose Lust. Originally, it was going to be Wrath because the original idea for Anne was that she has anger issues (and she still does somewhat) but I've written her to be more in-character per the S1 finale. So she's less vengeful and more "I just want to go home".

(Note: There will be drawbacks. Basically, Anne getting beaten up and still coming back? Yeah, that also has a mental influence. Getting beaten up hurts after all, so her powers switch that pain into pleasure. If left unchecked, Anne would basically get drunk in the heat of the moment and care less about her safety.)

first of all, thank you, again. messages like these (long or short, just personal, I guess) are the reason why I love writing so much. and sharing it. you took your time to compliment my mind, and I will take the opportunity to do the same with yours because I believe it takes a certain type of sensitivity to connect to a piece of writing at the level you did.

the way you see ira is exactly what I've wanted to portray through my writing. it is not an easy character to write - honestly, I knew how much of a sensitive topic I was entangling myself with and at my forefront was understanding. I feared saying too much, or too little, to express such a hard, real and honestly devastating topic. but it's also really hard for me to see her as the villain, even though that's exactly who she is in my story. I feel for ira and I had the strong urge to write her in a different light, the very first light she shone on jungkook, because I didn't want that to be lost in all the bad things she did. I enjoyed writing them in love, so so much, because that's exactly what they were. that's what they were when they made soori! soori was truly a baby that was made in love and if there's one thing to take from all that went down, is her. and that she was made in love. this is so important for me to put out there and I've even written bits of this exact train of thought that I want to expand in future chapters. so thank you for seeing her the way you do. and thank you for sharing why with me. you're seen in my story and you're seen in my eyes!

as for oc and jungkook - I couldn't agree more! I'd jump his bones, too. she definitely has a bit of a hero complex when it comes to him and sometimes getting myself in the mindset of writing her and feeling heartbroken for him truly messes with my heart hahahaha. but all the pain aside, I truly do believe there's love like that out there. when I started writing to build a home, I was in the midst of breaking up a love that I thought was just like that. and I saw it - the impending doom. and it really hurt. it hurt enough for me to sit down and randomly write that first (heart wrenching) chapter. but then my heart started healing and I was like, I'll be fine. I'll always be fine because this is not the last I'll see of love. and I also believe it started projecting itself in my writing. I also do want to mention that a lot of that love is first seen in characters like Lucy (which, I agree, everyone needs a friend like her) and Soori - just very unconditional lovers in this story... and then slowly, in oc and jungkook.

ngl i wonder what boyoung's reaction to all of that was. idk if it's just me, but i wouldn't feel good about being the "special" one or the one to "fix" a playboy after witnessing how said playboy would string along girls for entirely self-serving purposes. my whole thing with hookups and friends-with-benefits is it's only gonna work out if both parties are completely aware that they're just in it for the pleasure and know for themselves that there will never be anything more.

my problem with san is that he doesn't do that, he gets with girls that might actually fall for him because it's probably easier. if i was boyoung and i heard what san said to y/n about listening to her "crappy artworks" just to get laid, i wouldn't want to keep pursuing a relationship with that kind of person, regardless of how "in love" san might be for once. because why would i expect him to change for me? why would i expect him to fall in love with all the little details about me, why would i expect him to care about my interests? it's so very clear that he hasn't in the past. is that just me?

idk i'd really like to get boyoung's perspective in all of this, and tbh san needs to go through a MAJOR redemption arc like i'm talking zuko level shit after what he pulled.

also i'm not sure how to feel about y/n. i know that last chapter was purposefully trying to highlight how much of a bitch a woman like y/n can be when they want a man and can't have them, but there truly was no need to take it out on boyoung. y/n is a very polar character to me because she does these nice things for others and at least has some basic human decency (like at the party when wooyoung was in trouble), but then she almost seems to negate that by going after someone's looks and assuming she's gone through more than another person has even when she doesn't know? just because she wants a boy. it's astounding what "love" can turn a person into. how a person can and will betray their own morals just to get the person they want in the end. i guess the main takeaway here is that people like her are constantly on paths to grow and overcome that more selfish part of themselves, and i truly hope that by the end of the story y/n can do that. maybe one day apologize to boyoung (because no man is ever worth destroying a person's self-esteem over), and then maybe even find true love like yeojin (and i say true because although san was completely cruel in how he said it, he was right in that y/n doesn't truly love him, just the idea of winning someone like him).

i also think that mingi might play a big part in this, giving y/n the reality check she needs. so that one day, she'll look back at these times and laugh at herself. SO sorry for the long ask btw 😅

let me tell you something, male validation is like the finest crack cocaine you get hooked on it QUICKLY so fat chance is that being the 'special' one would make anyone feel good😭 and boyoung wasnt the one to "fix him" that was just yeojin talking but she doesnt exactly know whats going on between san and boyoung (and i don't plan on dwelling on the romance part between them too much or why she's special to san bc there are enough stories like that out there) but i totally get what you mean tho!

why IS boyoung into san even after knowing how he treats other girls?

i never understood it either which is why i decided to take that basic trope and reverse it so we can all see the player/fuckboy/bad boy that everyone fell in love with while reading fics for what he really is and what he's actually like towards girls who he isn't in love with 😭 because there are countless stories where the male oc in san's place treats the mean girl like trash but no-one bats an eye bc you know you're not supposed to be on the mean girl's side.

as for y/n... she's one of the most complex characters i've ever written. yn knows that boyoung didn't deserve that, in fact throughout the chapter, she compliments her even when she's trying to put boyoung down in her head and she ( i think two?? or three?? times by now in the story) says that she'll feel bad later when she thinks of what she's done to boyoung but in the moment it makes yn feel better so she let's the ugly side of her win.

yn is a very flawed character here so its okay if you dont know how to feel about her. after all, you would hate her if i was writing this story from boyoung's perspective😭

Before getting into PB, and the whole Cillian + Tom filmography fandom I was a big fan of and looked up a lot of fics for (Star Wars) Hux x Kylo, (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them) Graves x Newt, and I was very active as an artist last year for DBH (Gavin x Connor / Gavin x Nines) and DMCV (Nero x V / Dante x V) and loved the fics for them.

Now as we know I'm head over heels for any Tom Hardy x Cillian Murphy character pairing and I really wish for more♡♡ also PB: Tommy with Luca or Campbell or Freddie or any other man pleaseeee
