Episode 10 was just an absolute masterclass in emotional outbursts. The fight between Lomfon and Patts, then Patts and Tai, then Lomfon and Tien, then Patts and Tai again. Like goddamn, finally thank fuck, Patts is able to let out years worth of frustration and pain at Tai's silence was just so beautiful, and cathartic, and necessary. What an absolutely incredible moment to not only witness but experience. Patts has been so kind, so patient, so forgiving, and it was time for all the pain that he's been letting simmer for two years out. Good! For! Him!

Uea and His Bio Family, Bed Friend

There are few characters in this world I hate more than Uea's mother, and it was so so so so so so wonderful to see Uea finally give her a piece of his mind. I am so proud of him for speaking his mind, standing his ground, and getting the ever living fuck out of his bio family's house. Too personal, sorry, but this fight hit especially well for me because I too have had a parent say they'd live perfectly happily without me, and it was great vindication of my reaction to that to see Uea GTFO immediately after.

Secondarily, James' sobbing screams at the beginning of episode 4 and in the flashback of him getting dragged in to the bathroom when he was an adult have never left my brain. James absolutely crushed those scenes and this was going to be my Bed Friend pick before I remembered this fight exists.

Jim and Li Ming // Heart and His Parents, Moonlight Chicken

I don't think I am exaggerating when I say that Jim and Li Ming's relationship dynamics is one of my favorite of all time. Aof is such an incredible screenwriter/director and I feel like he's able to make such realistic depictions of families in all their complicated glory. The screaming match between Jim and Li Ming is SO good, and really is what solidified my appreciation for Fourth's acting skills because there was a fucking storm cloud on his brow. Happy fucking birthday to you Uncle Jim I guess. Poor fucker.

And then of course, one of the first ever posts I made in the BL Sphere of tumblr was a full essay on Heart's confrontation which I loved so motherfucking much. Once again a much needed fight with lots of interesting, complicated emotions flying around the room.

Kiyoi and Hira, Utsukushii Kare Season 2

"I'm sorry that I like you" one of the best moments of the year for me by far. This fight between Kiyoi and Hira was desperately, and I mean desperately needed. I know changing will be a slow process for the two of them, and even in Eternal they are no where near where they need to be, but Hira needs/needed to cut this Pebble to a God bullshit out and I am so glad that Kiyoi was able to call him on it. Also from a performance standpoint, Yagi Yusei had his work cut out for him as a scene partner to Hagiwara who absolutely bodied his role as Hira. In season one Yagi did not need to do all that much for his performance because we didn't know as much about Kiyoi until closer to the end, but that cannot be the case for Season 2 and Yagi knocked it out of the motherfucking park.

Sunshine and Q, 7 Days Before Valentine

Okay, almost positive this isn't a BL but I love when people structure TV shows like stage plays, and there was a fight between Sunshine and Q in like Episode 4 or 5 where they were shouting over each other and it just felt so real and the dead silence that hit the room when Q said something that struck a chord with Sunshine was expertly handled, and some of the best work I've seen out of Atom the whole show. I don't think anyone gifed it so I can't put the scene in, but I think you talked about it in your Stray Thoughts @bengiyo

Hi! Happy 4k celebration 🥰 Can you share how you make your gifs or make a gif tutorial?

hi !! tysm <3 i'm more than happy to give you a little tutorial on how i make my gifs ! of course, my process is not the same to other gifmakers and may not always work for everyone but i hope it helps !

for this tutorial, i'm using the most recent edition of photoshop (2023) on my mac. full explanation under the cut.

full disclaimer: most of what i've learnt about photoshop and the giffing process is through pure trial and error. this won't work for everyone and others may think it's a little weird, but this is just how i make my gifs !!

1.find your scenes.

finding your scenes is sometimes very time consuming but you want to get it right the first time !! for this tutorial, i'm using a music video in mp4 format.

2. loading your scenes.

to load your scenes, you want to go: 'file' > 'import' > 'video frames to layers'. i know that this step varies on the user because some people like to go to timeline first, but i'd advise starting in frames first !

after that, a screen like i've depicted below will pop up. i've also annotated everything for you as well.

so, select your desired range, press 'ok' and then it will all load into ps !

3. setting up your gif.

i'm grouping this all into one step, but it's broken down into a few things.

the first part of this is: cropping. the recommended dimensions i follow are on this guideline here, but for the sake of this tutorial i'm just going to crop my gif 540x540 (as a w x h setting). the crop tool is on the left hand tool bar.

now, my gif looks like this. from here, i'm going to click on the timeline (the space along the bottom that has every frame). from there, click on the three lines to get this menu (i've circled where to go + what you'll click):

from there, go 'select all frames' and then click on any of the frames NUMBERS (where it says 0.04 with an arrow besides it, or whatever yours says) then change the frame rate. with most youtube videos i will use 0.08 as my desired frame rate, but when i'm gifing a show or something, it loads in as 0.02, so i change it to 0.05. 0.05-6 on any normal screen cap should be fine, but obviously you can change it depending on if it looks right or not.

from there, you've basically done the first half of the basics. now, you'll want to click on this button:

and now you'll be taken to the video timeline ! from here, select command + option + a (this is for mac, i think it would be control if you're on another device) then, right click on your layers and go 'convert to smart object'.

from here, i'll sharpen my gif before i colour. for this step i have two alternative sharpening settings first one by anyataylorjoy (rb to download !) and the other by maygrant (please ask !). the first one is tuser maygrant's and the second one is tuser anyataylorjoy's. i typically use morgan's for all my basic gifs but anyataylorjoy's for creative sets. every user has a different preference but just find what's good for you !

4. colouring your gif.

definitely the most tedious, this can be a little bit of a hassle depending on the scene. if the colouring isn't riddled with heavy yellows or cyans, colouring is usually a breeze but if it is, it can be hard.

CURVES

the circle with the arrow dropdown and that's half grey-white is the circle you want to click on to find curves. it'll open a menu and curves will be at the top.

you'll see a little menu like above appear. now, select the dropper i've indicated as being the "light point" and then, using the zoom tool, we're going to zoom in and find the brightest point on the gif. this is typically where the light source is.

in this section here, i can see a couple of bright points. using the dropper, i'll click on the closest to white (note: i find that white rarely changes the colouring of the gif, so if there's like, a really really light yellow, for example, click on that) and then i'll do a similar process with the "dark point" dropper, finding the darkest spot, which is usually in shadows or in the corners. unlike with the light dropper, you want the closest to black, whether that's a dark dark brown or dark dark blue.

now, we can see how the colouring has changed:

optional: you can change the white line on the curves menu, which can make it lighter, or darker in different points of the gif.

LEVELS

levels is an optional step, but i recommend it on very light gifs, or if you want to add a little more depth. probably don't do it on an already very dark gif.

the levels menu looks like this:

the far left slider adds shadows and the far right slider makes it lighter. on this particular gif, i only need a little bit of depth to her face and i only need to contrast that a little bit. by just dragging the slider a little bit:

this is the result:

with levels, it can very quickly alter skin tone/make your gif look bad !! with levels, i don't think you need to go above 1-12 in adding depth.

OPTIONAL: BRIGHTNESS/CONTRAST

brightness/contrast is optional !! only add it if it's necessary :)

COLOUR BALANCE

a colour balance layer is great for fixing the tones for the gif !!

this one's pretty self explanatory. if you want it to be more yellow, slide it towards yellow. if you want it to be more red, slide it more towards red, etc etc. i've attached some gifs showing how i change tone:

but just play with it until it looks right. be very careful with skin tone !! colour balance can very easily whitewash/colour wash and that is not something encouraged, in the slightest.

SELECTIVE COLOUR

a selective colour layer is basically a "final touch" to colouring. where colour balance just kind of does an overall change of the gif, selective colour allows you to alter your specific tones, ie. reds, magentas, blues, etc. for me, i'll do the bulk of getting my desired colouring with colour balance, but if it overcorrects reds, for example, i'll add some cyan to red tones in selective colour, to diffuse that.

currently, in my gif, it's very red/yellow heavy. to balance that out, i want to add cyans. so, on the drop down list of the selective colour menu, i'll select 'red' and then i'll ADD cyans (so move the slider to the right, not the left to decrease) and then repeat that on other tones that i want to correct, with different colours.

with each of the sliders, just add or decrease how much of that colour is in that tone. once again, be mindful of skin tone and whether it is appropriate or not.

with selective colour, if there are any standout colours (eg. in my gif, there's a big patch of cyan) that don't interrupt their face (eg. reds and yellows are always in faces) and change the way the subjects look, you can change those colours to make it more vibrant. so, in this gif, i'll enhance the cyans and blues and magentas to make the colours pop more.

5. saving your gif

once your happy with the colouring of your gif and done what you need to do with it, save it as a smart object with all your colouring layers, then go to 'file' > 'export' > 'save for web (legacy)...' . play back your gif, and it should be all good !! congrats on making your gifs !

i've included a playback of each layer, which is staggered to show each layer come into effect.

in order: nothing -> curves -> levels-> brightness/contrast -> colour balance -> selective colour.

I would like to rant about something. It's been awhile since I've done that and it's been kinda bubbling under the surface for a long time.

Again: you can headcanon whatever the fuck you want, this just my "takes me out of a story" thing.

There have been a couple posts that I've seen going around lambasting people for using other names for Eddie then Edward (Edwin, Edison, Edmond etc) when it's on his missing poster as Edward Munson.

Only there is a couple things wrong with that.

One: Not everyone goes through every frame of the show and are actual causal viewers! I know, shocking! (heavy sarcasm here, folks) I personally had seen the missing poster gifed and screenshotted a billion times and never caught that they had his first and last name until someone pointed it out.

Two: it lists Eddie's age at 17. So how well can trust it, really? I know I've seen several takes from production getting the age wrong, to Wayne making him younger so people care, to Kas theory, to even Eddie being one of the kids that went missing before Will and his age is listed as what it would have been in 1983 (which could go either supernatural or Wayne just used the old missing poster from then).

So until there is something ELSE in the show that shows his name AS Edward, you can call him whatever you want, because canon just tells us that his name is Eddie.

So why am I bringing this up?

Because the people going around shouting this bit of information tend to also people who will use one or the other or even both of the next headcanons in their meta/fanfics.

1- Eddie CAN'T swim. This one always takes me out of the story when I see it because we have TWO on screen events that show him swimming. The first is the one most people forget. When Jason and his friends chase Eddie out onto the lake and he falls in. If he couldn't swim, dude would have DIED. But he makes it to Skull Rock. The second time is jumping after Steve. Trust as someone who can't swim, there is no way he would go jumping in after Steve if he couldn't. He would go back to shore and let the kids know what was going on.

So I tend to back out of a fic when I see it, because if you're off about that aspect of his character, I'm not sure I want to read further because what else might they get wrong about him.

2- This one is a doozy for me because it really makes me mad. When they say Wayne is Eddie's mom's brother.

"While all the other dads were teaching their kids to fish or to play ball...my old man was teaching me how to hotwire. Now I swore to myself I wouldn't wind up like he did, but now I'm wanted for murder and soon grand theft auto so...uh, yeah really living up to that Munson name."

Right, I had to transcribe the whole phrase because IMDb only had the hotwiring part. Because it's that last part that is so important to my point. Now I don't know if there are other ways to interpret that line, but if Wayne's last name is Munson and Eddie talks about living up to the Munson name...wouldn't the logic follow that Eddie's dad (named Allen Munson in the Stranger Things: First Shadow play and that's how I'll refer to him from now on to make it easier to type) is also a Munson? So if Wayne, Allen, and Eddie all share the same name wouldn't that make Wayne and Allen brothers?

Now, I think I know where this logic that Wayne is related to Eddie's mom and not his dad, is because how could sweet, hardworking Wayne be related to criminal, most likely in jail Al? Because I don't know who needs to hear this: but even growing up poor in a family that isn't known for its honest living (not that I think all the Munsons are like Al, by the way) one can still chose not to follow in those footsteps. Hell, Wayne could have even straightened up FOR Eddie.

Hell we know more about Eddie's dad then we do his mom. The only thing we know is that she isn't around to take care of Eddie. Dead, in jail, or just doesn't give a damn, she's not in Eddie's life.

So yeah, it upsets me because to me it smacks a little classist. Good guy Wayne can't be related to criminal Al *clutches pearls!* He absolutely is.

Hello, I don't know if I'm the first to ask this, but how do you make gifs?

If it's not a problem, could you explain it to someone who had never made gifs, but want to try?

As you can imagine, it's a fresh awoken need, because I think I just got a stroke watching a concert and I wanna try gifing, pls help a fangirl out 🙏

OKAY SO i use a program on my desktop called instagiffer, which actually makes gifmaking very easy once you get the hang of how it works and learn the shortcuts you can take with it. it's pretty easy to learn just messing around with it to see what everything does, but on top of that, i have a very efficient system that's been developing over the years.

this is what it looks like with no video loaded in it yet:

i had to load in a video to see these other things for screenshots, so here it is with a video loading in(one i started a long time ago and never finished but am working on now, i've posted one gif from it already though):

so it has the effects panel(which i never use except the enhance one but i've had to switch that off before on certain videos if it looked messed up):

and it has the captions panel, for subtitles or anything:

it's got the manual crop thing in the frames dropdown, so you can be more precise about cropping edges out instead of just relying on dragging the corners of the red square around:

as far as i'm aware, the program seems like it's been abandoned for a long time, the website for it hasn't been kept up, the social media pages for it, etc., but it's still available to download in places online somewhere i believe. or if you'd prefer, i could probably send it to you! i can also help with how to use it if you wanna give it a try, and tell/show you my usual routine.

besides that, sometimes i'll use ezgif .com to do things like remove frames or change speed on gifs i've already made or to resize them if i need to because it's quick and doesn't throw a watermark on it, but i think you can make them there too. i haven't done it because it didn't work for me when i was testing it out one day, but it might have just been me being impatient.

OH MY GOD ELLE SORRY THIS IS SO LATE!!! IT WAS VERY COOL!!!!! VERY SURREAL!!!!!! I've taken a week to answer this but uhhhh yes I am in fact home now 🥰 I got home at like 1 am which was cool....

First of all I have to mention this! I was fighting for my life walking thru the Austin airport(from sleep deprivation), and I had my Fernando hat on my backpack, right? Some girl comes up to me and asks if I'm going to the GP, I say yes. SHE GAVE ME A FRIENDSHIP BRACELET, I COULD'VE SOBBED 🥹 It says on it "wtf is a km", I'm still so happy

COTA was the first race I ever watched, so to be actually at that track and watch a race live there was extremely surreal! Very hot though my god 😵‍�� I think last year it was pretty hot, right? And my brother kept sending me the temp and it was pretty okay, and then of fucking course the temp leaps up to 89-97°(31-36° Celsius btw) right in time for the gp....so that was nice(I say as I burn in the sun like a vampire. But don't worry I didn't even really tan at all 😭 I always wore a hat and a lot of sunscreen. And meanwhile my brother was literally a lobster)

So unfortunately I missed the drivers parade because my brother and I were dying on Saturday night and his friends wanted to go first thing in the morning, and we're like "we will go later actually 😊" and missed it entirely 😭😭😭 but his friends took pics of Mclaren and Aston for me!!!!! But unfortunately I havent gotten them still, so I'll have to reblog this later with those! I took a lot of pictures of the cars I took from behind the fence, which I think I've posted some of? Lmk if anyone wants those!! They're very random, I just thought it was very surreal to see the cars flying past, so I took a million.

The coolest part was definitely running on track after the race was over!!! Soooooo surreal, and so I'm only gonna post pics rn from Sunday(bcs pic limit on phone) and also I think everything else kinda pales in comparison(but of course lmk if there's anything you're interested in seeing 🤭)

Okay and did I see any drivers...? ONLY ONE BUT AAAAHHHH I DID SEE LANDO!!! Not even one of my favs but it was soooooo surreal to see him, even from afar. As you can see above, everyone standing on the fences was blocking the view 🙄, but during the podium, I was focusing my camera btwn their legs and got literally one second of Lando 😭 I think its a pretty aesthetic clip, so I gifed it!!

It was so funny, I went to the gp with my brother and friends, so all these older guys yeah. And I was showing this off to them on the ride home, and his one friend was praising me so much for it 😭😭 like: "oh my god!!!! You could put this in an edit !!! This is so sick!!!!"

Oh one other thing!!! I think I've mentioned it before but my god, my favorite f1 podiums are always the ones with confetti, right?? AND THERE WAS CONFETTI AT THIS RACE!!!

LOOK AT HOW PRETTYYYYY!!!! And so anyways, I picked up so much confetti off the ground and now it lives forever in my phone case 🥰🥰🥰 I have no other room for pics on this post(for now) but oh my godddddddddd most of the confetti were just rectangles BUT THERE WAS ALSO ONES SHAPED LIKE TEXAS!!! SO COOL!!!!! And I also picked up a bunch of tire marbles off the ground!!! And a piece of plastic that probably came off some car. It was so funny when all of us were just scrounging off the ground. My bro's one friend somehow found a piece of carbon fiber, and we're all like "how can I kill him in his sleep and steal this from him..." But no the highlight actually of that process was watching my brother sprint to the podium, but stopping and grabbing a bunch of gravel first to shove in his pocket 😭😭😭

The other two days were fun as well, but also a lot of just dying in the heat and drinking a fuckton of red bull, so there's not too much specifically to say! I really liked hearing the cars. I think if you wanna know what's actually going on in a race, watching from home is better, but hearing the cars go by and seeing them is just so fucking sick. It was so funny to see grown men be like "I think I'm going to cry hearing these cars." I was really flexing on them with "uhhh yeah I've already been to a gp already 🙄🙄"

Anyways I ended the day by breaking bank by buying my dad and myself Fernando shirts because he is of course Fernando's biggest fan 🥰🥰 and I bought the most delicious overpriced lemonade, which I only drank half of bcs my brother proceeded to accidentally elbow it out of my hand....

OH WAIT ONE MORE DETAIL LOL. On Friday, my brother and his friend were waiting in line for smth and I was talking to them outside of the barrier. I look down, hmm theres a red cap abandoned on the ground, I pick it up, it is in fact a Ferrari hat. And that is how my brother acquired a $40+ dollar hat for free. Lucky bastard....I was the who found it!

Since you are an absolute master as show trailer gifs, I was wondering if you had a good guide, or know where to find a good step by step, for being able to screenshot show and movie trailers for gifing?

Sadly, I am not the most techy person and what I’m finding so far is a bit more involved than I’m comfortable with.

i personally use potplayer to cap my shows/trailers etc, i generally find it the most 'user friendly'! you have to download these first, specifically for trailers i use 4k video downloader+ to do this, and then open the file in potplayer and use that to cap. i'm afraid i really don't have time currently put a tutorial together (i've been running around the entire weekend sadly, and this week is incredibly busy for me!) but here's a good giffing tutorial that i'd recommend following. hope it helps you and you're able to figure it out, good luck!

A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night Viewing Response

(this scene literally changed the trajectory of my life)

I love this film so much!!!!! I've watched it for a few MAC classes and done a good amount of projects on it, it's one of my favorite films of all time so please bear with me if I have a lot to say :).

To start, I have to say I don't wholly agree with Abdi and Calafell's interpretation of The Girl in their text. The authors describe the titular Girl as a "forlorn chador-wearing feminist-vampire-vigilante, attempting to rid the fictional world of Bad City ... from the violence of patriarchy" (358). It's not that this is a completely inaccurate description, per se, as The Girl inevitably disrupts the patriarchy (which I will of course get into later), and can be revered by women audiences as a sort of feminist icon. Within the world of the film, however, I think this description is a bit heavy-handed, overlooking the intricacies and nuances of her character and her motives.

I don't feel that The Girl is this untouchable vigilante figure who's acts are always for the sake of liberating women and dismantling the patriarchy, even if she does end up doing so. In fact, I think the most feminist and empowering thing about her is that she sometimes acts out of her own self interest and her desire to feel human love. I feel like girlboss feminism has created this "I don't need a man" mindset, but my favorite part of the film is that Amirpour dared to portray that badass women, too, can still desire to be loved.

Ok, now for some actual formal analysis.

What is so cool about this film is that Amirpour uses the form of cinema itself, and its masculine traditions, to display a disruption of the patriarchy. It's notable that The Girl does not appear for the first 20ish (?) minutes of the film. We are instead introduced to three male characters with stylistic influences of old Westerns as well as the works of James Dean, all trademarks of western masculinity. We might expect the film that follows to be Arash's face off against the nefarious Saeed, a sort of dick-measuring contest (for lack of better words lol) that we are all too used to in these kinds of films. When we first do meet The Girl, she is framed through the gaze of Saeed, an emobodied masculine force proven to be physically dangerous. While Saeed sees The Girl while in the car with Atti, Amirpour cleverly utilizes the constructions of the male gaze. The audience sees The Girl only as Saeed does: in the mirror, over his shoudler, then not at all. The same occurs when the two cross paths on the sidewalk moments later. At this point, The Girl is still on the periphery of a masculine narrative.

Then, Amirpour does something interesting. As The Girl enters Saeed's apartment, the cinematic gaze gradually shifts. The space is overwhelmingy, obnoxiously "masculine." As The Girl takes it all in with disgust, we begin to see how ridiculous this masculine aesthetic truly is. Still, she is alone and physically small within a space that might as well be masculinity itself, with a dangerous man and his predictably disgusting motives. As the two get closer, Amirpour really hones in on compositions of the male gaze. In the scene GIFed above, Saeed is above The Girl, emphasizing her physical size. Her face is in focus, presumably to show its seductive nature as he is seeing it.

Despite my qualms with the Abdi and Calafell reading, they had a point that really stood out to me, and that applies a lot here. They remark that The Girl's vampirism "allows her to fight patriarchy; however, she is still living within a patriarchal society in which her raced, classed, and gendered body is disciplined" (365). Amirpour plays with societal expectations of how The Girl and her body would typically be positioned in this moment. With Saeed looking down at her and placing his finger in her mouth, she appears disempowered. In an instant, all of these expectations are turned on their head. After biting off Saeed's finger, it is him that is now disempowered, whimpering on the floor. When he looks up at the girl, she is no longer seductively framed. Her face is covered in his blood and she looks terrifying. In this moment, the patriarchal narrative of the film has been disrupted. What follows is discordance, a cynical view of the world now through The Girl's gaze.

I've been gifing mostly TLK for now as it is my one and only absolute favourite TV show, but I've also made some gifs from WOT and Shetland - the characters that Arnas Fedaravičius plays.

21. PSDs or original coloring for each gif

Both. I have some PSDs prepared, but they don't fit always, so it depends very much on the particular scene.

26. How many un posted sets are in your drafts right now

Exactly 3 😅 and I have prepared screencaps for 2 more, but haven't started gifing yet.

34. A set that took you a long time/was really hard but you’re really proud of how it came out

It's my very first try in doing overlay and it took me really long time until I found the right ink splash video, cropped out the fitting part (the first few ones didn't really fit), then I needed to adapt the speed and then it was another nightmare to put it all together, but I'm really proud of the result 😅

38. What are you really excited to gif that isn’t out yet

I have saved some double exposure tutorials that I really, rally wanna try out, but I can't find time for that as it seems one of the most complicated thing in comparison to what I have done until now and I need to find the appropriate scenes first before even starting.

1. What are your top 3 favorite sets you’ve made?

This is such a tough question because having to choose three sets out of everything that I've ever made?! I've made hundreds of gifsets in different fandoms, how could I possibly choose only three?

Okay, okay, here goes:

JJ/Emily from Skins UK. I thought they were so cute and I just really like my coloring here. :3 I really miss this show and I keep thinking about making new Skins (gen 2) gifs every once in a while.

Sarge/Cleo from Cleopatra 2525. This remains one of my all-time favorite sets because a) it took me several hours to make it b) it was actually my first 2-gifs-in-1-canvas set ever and c) again, I just really like my coloring here. :)

Billy in purple. My favorite boy in one of my favorite colors. :) I just really, really like this one.

8. What gif trend do you hate?

I can't exactly remember what year it was when people used to make those colorless/washed-out gifs all the time? 2014? 2015? Anyway. While I kind of liked the look of some of them (and I made a few myself so I'm not so innocent heh), when literally everybody was making them, it made my dashboard quickly look so fucking dull and lifeless. I kept asking: where are all the colorful gifs / why do you guys hate colors so much? Ugh.

Also some of the recent trends... You know when people make those transitional b&w glitchy gifs? I go back and forth about it. Like, in a way, I kind of like the look. I think the effect looks cool and I can tell it's taken a lot of time & effort to make it happen. But I also have this thing called astigmatism in my eyes, and that glitchy effect makes me go all 😵. So I'm not a huge fan of that trend because of that. I still think it's cool though.

9. What/who inspired you to start making gifs?

Honestly, I can't even 100% remember anymore. XD I think I always just thought that gifs are cool and I guess I was just hoping to see more gifs about X and Y and couldn't find them, so, I figured I gotta do it myself. I made my very first gifs in the J-rock fandom and later, as a fan of the Norwegian actor Kristoffer Joner (who has like 5 fans on Tumblr, including me haha), so, I'm guessing I got my original inspiration from there. And here we are.

32. What is your favorite tool/adjustment layer in Photoshop?

Color Balance! :)

I nearly always use the same tools for my base coloring (curves, levels, b/c) and then finish it off with vibrance and curves. But obviously, coloring/color correction is my favorite part of gif-making. And I love Color Balance because you can make such powerful changes to your gifs with a minimum of fuss - also give them depth if you adjust Shadows and Highlights as well (and I nearly always do that).

I also like using Photo Filter, especially before Color Balance - especially when scenes are strongly tinted in yellow, blue, or green (ugh). It generally works great as a color neutralizer (or an emphasizer) and saves you from a lot of cursing and swearing most of the time.

There are quite a few of those sets and some of them really didn't do quite well in the sense of popularity. XD

I would honestly say that most of my color palette, fake scenes, and lyrics edits all took a fair amount of time and most of them are something that I'm quite proud of.

In my less popular fandoms - Young Hercules, Hercules: the Legendary Journeys, Fear the Walking Dead, Z Nation - I spent hours, even days to rip them & convert them from my DVD/BR, not to mention the whole process of finally gifing them and all, so. They definitely took me a lot of time to make and I am still quite proud of them. Even if some of them are very old now and don't necessarily look as good anymore (thus why I've already started working on some fresh remakes :D).

36. Do you gif with something specific in mind or do you just wing it?

Both. Sometimes I have such detailed plans for gifsets (even now I have so many different projects in mind, just very little time or energy for all 🙃) and I spend so much time planning them and working on them (and then they get 30 likes and 2 reblogs, one from me lol). Then sometimes I just want to make something, fuck details and plans, I don't want to think about it all lmao. So I just make these simple character episode gifsets or random scenes that I liked etc.

41. What is your least favorite part about your gif making process?

Oh, let me see. Using software that requires at least 16GB RAM to run effectively, and my poor laptop only has 8GB, so. 🙃 Not always being able to run other programs (like Spotify) in the background - or having to restart PS - or occasionally having to wait for several minutes for it to even fucking import anything, then having to wait a few minutes more for it to crop and resize the goddamn thing - yeah, I love it so fucking much. 😎🤗 Not.

Not to mention how PS keeps crashing occasionally (especially CS5, which I no longer really use for that reason + crappy fonts and it's a shame because it actually works faster on my laptop so kjkgjkggk), plus countless other, lovely errors that may occasionally pop up with this otherwise lovely, "user-friendly" Adobe feature. Thus, I am so 🏴‍☠️☠️ this shit. Not sorry. 😇🤭

49. How much would you say you’ve improved since you first started giffing?

Some of the first gifs I've made (somewhere between 2012-2014 I think):

I think there's a clear improvement compared to my most recent ones 1 & 2. :) I try to pay more attention to the speed of my gifs now - I no longer try to make them slow or skip any frames if I have to. I also strive to use mostly HQ videos these days (albeit sometimes you really just can't find them anywhere and that's something you just gotta deal with 🙃😎).

Albeit I actually still do like even some of my older colorings, I no longer usually have to spend hours and hours (except on very rare occasions) fiddling with different coloring settings and feel depressed every five minutes because now I have more experience and knowledge with different PS tools. Of course, now that Tumblr also allows us to upload even bigger gifs (from 1MB to 10MB ftw), it's obviously given me more freedom to explore and improve myself as a gif maker. :D There's still much to learn ofc, but then again, there are still people who make such awesome gif tutorials here, so I love to take new tips from them whenever I can.

✨ my sister moved back and we're closer now than before she went away

✨ I grew a lot as a hairstylist

All in all I've had a fairly decent year there were definitely downsides and some parts of it were hard but I made fun and exciting memories for sure 💞

Hi there! It was my second comic con 🤩 first one in the states though. Cons in US are such a huge thing, they're so well ran so as to accommodate so many people. Photos ops were so efficient like I've never seen Americans work this fast before 😅 now I see why smaller cons are better if you want to spend a little more time with your favourite celebs.

I didn't go with a costume, I just don't go to cons regularly enough currently to justify an expensive set of costume, but I do hope to do so one day. Met some cosplayers, they're really nice and the costumes are banging 😍

I went there to meet Ming-Na 🥰 she is the nicest person honestly, she takes her time, let you take selfies with her even though the staffs say no. The joy of meeting her is gonna keep me going for the next couple of years 🥹

The WB studio tour was amazing! Highly recommended if you're a fan of Harry Potter, DC or friends. And I've seen many of the shows mentioned in the tour too, even though I'm terrible at recognising anything. Learnt a lot of magic tricks used in sets, and now that I know just how damn much it is to rent in those studios, I understand why shows get cancelled all the time 🥲 I went to the Paramount one too even though I didn't plan to at first, I just had such a great time at WB. I would say Paramount is more for old Hollywood fans, there's too many movies I've heard but have never seen.

My first fandom was Castle (and it'll forever be my favourite show), it ran for like 8 years and was pretty much my life from elementary school till uni 😅 It was just something that I always looked forward to during it's run and kept me going all those years.

Not sure what "home fandom" means, but I started giffing on Tumblr with the show Agents of SHIELD (AoS) and it's sorta my home here on Tumblr. I've giffed that show so much I can recall most episodes while tagging other people's gifs (I'm usually really bad at recalling things, but it makes rewatched really fun though 🤣). How about you? Like what got you started in gif making and what is your home fandom?

Favourite colour scheme really depends on the show, like with AoS it's pretty dark and cool tone so I often go with blue & purple. I would say I like any colour but green 😅 I've had enough "trauma" with it, like I don't know how I always ended up on the green house/ team (no offense to team mixer I love you guys but I just don't vibe with that colour). Font wise I like a bold sans serif font and a fancy cursive decorative one for accent in those big gifs with text in the middle. Honestly, typography is a constant struggle.

I started gifing shows not so long ago this spring. My first shows to gif were My School President and Moonlight Chicken who then were followed by Bed Friend. BF made a lasting impression on me, the story of King and Uea touched me very much and I made huge amounts of gifs. One of them is below, it's from the last episode and I like the colouring and sharpening in it, it shows how much I've already learned since MSP and MLC. It's not perfect and I'd propably do it a little bit different now, but I still like how it turned out. It also shows beautyfully how much King and Uea still love and adore each other after everything that happend.

Gifing started to become such an important part for me to show what I like in a series. I'm not that good with words and gifs make it easy to sort of speak about an episode I've seen. I can make silly moving pictures and tell everyone "look, this is a part of the show that moved me very much, have a look at it too and tell me what you think about it". Much more time consuming than writing but it is as it is 😆

I like seeing them on my dash, I like to dig through the tags to see what people came up with. I love making them and reblogging them. It all brings me so much joy. Even the ones that take me longer and don't trun out that beutiful. I love them.

I adore this scene but as soon as I laid my eyes on it I knew it was gonna be a bitch to colour. I think it was one of the first ones I used photoshop after not touching that program for over a decade. It took ages to make the gifs but I was smiling through the process because the scene made me so happy.
