Day 25 - Perpetuity
"Sergeant Fiske!"
Brynhorn Fiske paused, his Maelstrom hat under his arm, the red and black uniform once more worn by the ex-soldier as he met the eyes of a young officer, the soldier actually saluting Bryn first as the old dog chuckled, and saluted back, the smart, sharp, straight right hand grazing his right brow before they both dropped the common greeting. "Sorry sir," the younger man blurted out, speaking rapidly, "didn't mean to surprise you by calling out, but I saw you and had to talk with you!"
Bryn turned fully towards the man who, by all accounts, outranked him, but the respect he saw in his eyes was genuine, and he had a good idea why. The Silver Wolf was well known now among the ranks of the Maelstrom, both for his time in the corp, and for the years after helping them. Now, with the threat of Ultima dealt with, a dragon slain, and a relatively peaceful future stretching ahead, Bryn had returned from his snowy vigil in Ishgard to receive an honor bestowed only on a few lucky soldiers.
"Speak, Lieutenant," he chuckled out, and motioned for the man to walk with him. "Time is short before the ceremony begins."
"Right!" The young man jumped forward into step with Bryn, and for a few steps, seemed to be visibly wrestling with his words, before finally sighing. "I have a...problem. Or really a short coming. I'm a Lieutenant, already, but I'm so young that a lot of my men don't respect me. I know that you were given a command very young too, Sergeant. So how did you earn their respect?"
Those intense, brown eyes lifted to silver ones as Bryn met his gaze, reaching up to gently stroke his well kept beard, humming thoughtfully. "Respect, hm?" A tricky subject. He remembered how he, a fresh faced twenty year old, holding a rifle he barely knew how to use, had stared at the ten men and women meant to be under his command, and felt so...small before them. Like he didn't deserve this honor or their respect. But he also remembered how he had earned it. "When was the last time you shared a meal with them?"
"Shared a - what?! I eat with the officers!" He seemed shocked to be even asked such a question, and Bryn stopped to look at him with a sharp eye.
"That's your issue. You are separating yourself from them." The Lieutenant flinched slightly at the harsh tone in Bryn's voice, and he relented slightly, sighing heavily. "Look, they are all acutely aware that you outrank them. That you, somehow, so young, could order them to lay down their lives and they would be expected to do so. What they don't know is if they can trust you. And that means you need to ask yourself a question. Do you want to be their leader, or do you want to be their dictator?"
For a moment, he watched as the young man's head wrapped around the question, worked through it, and formulated an answer, his mouth opening to say something, but was silenced by a firm pat on the back from Bryn. "Don't tell me," he chuckled out, "tell them." And after a second of embarrassed nodding and a quick salute, the Lieutenant was gone, off to find his command as Bryn continued on his way towards the ceremony.
----------------------------------------------------------
"Sergeant Brynhorn Fiske."
Rising, his hat under his arm, Bryn took the few steps forward on the makeshift stage the Maelstrom was using the Limsa Lominsa to hold their ceremony, the applause of both civilians, soldiers, and veterans filling the air as Eynzahr Slafyrsyn turned with medal in hand towards Bryn, the old Sea Wolf's eyes gleaming as he pinned it on the red and black of Bryn's uniform. "Apologies Merlwyb herself couldn't be here, sir, but she sends her regards and congratulations."
Bryn chuckled, and shook his head, his voice soft as he shook his old Grand Marshal's hand. "It is of no consequence, sir. The honor alone is enough."
"Speaking of, she asked me to impart another gift besides the distinguished service medal." Bryn's eyebrows shot up, but Eynzahr was already turning to the crowd, and announcing loudly the second gift for Bryn.
"By order of the Chief Admiral, Sergeant Brynhorn Fiske has received a distinction for his actions during the fall of Dalamud, and the many years of working with us and the Scions to protect Eorzea. As a result, despite leaving our ranks, he is to maintain and hold his title as Storm Sergeant Second Class, in perpetuity! Thank you, sir, for your service!"
The roar from the crowd as the Grand Marshal turned and saluted Bryn barely registered for the Silver Wolf, his salute more ingrained instinct than anything else, his expression one of shock as he tried to form words to say something, but already the Grand Marshal was moving on to the next person on the stage, and Bryn dutifully retook his seat.
Storm Sergeant, Second Class, in perpetuity. Until death, and after, Bryn would hold that rank, and be able to leverage it wherever he went. It was truly, one of the highest honors. Almost made him wish he had made it to a higher rank...
He jumped as his linkpearl went off, and he quickly lifted a hand to his ear and answered, listening, nodding, and confirming he would be on his way. Perfect timing too, as the last man received his award and the crowd clapped. It was a simple matter to slip off the stage and head for the aetheryte plaza, humming to himself.
"Well...it never ends, does it?" He muttered dryly, but still, his feet carried him surely back towards Ishgard, and whatever new threat existed.

News
The Security Forces Channel flickered on, the screen awash with the crisp, clean lines of a studio set that was both austere and imposing. The anchor, a strikingly handsome and athletic young man, sat behind a sleek desk. He wore the black high-collared parade uniform of an Enforcer, the sharp cut of the fabric accentuating his disciplined posture. His shaved head gleamed under the studio lights as he began the broadcast, his voice resonant and clear.
"Good evening. This is 4X9ZM with the Security Forces Channel News, your source for the latest updates on the Paramedic Corps, Lifeguards, Enforcers, and their vital actions protecting our Republic."
80LKU and 60CCD watched intently, their visors up as they sat in the common room, reflecting on the recent documentary and readying themselves for the latest bulletins. The anchor continued, his image unwavering on the screen.
"In our top story tonight, the Republic Parliament has extended the conscript service period to up to 3.6 years, ensuring that our Security Forces remain robust and ready to face any challenge. This decision underscores the critical role our conscripts play in maintaining national security."
The screen cut to footage from the helmets of Enforcers on the ground. The HUD overlays were visible, marking key points and individuals in the crowd. Commands flashed across the display, directing the Enforcers' movements with precision. The scene was chaotic, protesters clashing with the armored figures of the Enforcers, but the discipline and training of the Security Forces were evident in every motion.
80LKU leaned forward, noting the tactics used. "They’ve got the new crowd dispersion modules in play. See how they isolate and de-escalate?"
60CCD nodded. "Yeah, and the memetic blockers are filtering out the agitators. Textbook execution."
The footage shifted to a debriefing, where the commanding officer outlined the operation’s success. The anchor’s voiceover praised the Enforcers’ restraint and effectiveness.
The screen then cut to a paramedic conscript, a young man with a shaved head, dressed in a red bellhop-style uniform. He stood poolside at the Lifeguard swimming competition. "This is L7B23 with the annual Lifeguard Corps swimming competition, where the finest swimmers of the Corps showcase their skills," he reported. The camera panned over the pool, capturing the toned bodies of Lifeguard cadets slicing through the water with ease, their ID tattoos visible on their chests.
80LKU and 60CCD watched the swimmers with admiration. The Paramedic continued, "These cadets represent the pinnacle of physical fitness and dedication, their rigorous training reflected in every stroke."
The scene transitioned back to the studio, where a Lifeguard conscript, equally bald and imposing in yellow shorts, stood ready to present the weather. His bare chest displayed his ID tattoo: KL99R. "Good evening," he began, "This is KL99R with your weather update. Today, we can expect clear skies and favorable conditions for all Security Forces operations across the Republic."
80LKU and 60CCD exchanged glances, impressed by the seamless presentation and the disciplined presence of their fellow conscripts on-screen.
The anchor returned to the screen, his gaze steady and unwavering. "In other news, the Lifeguard Corps has been actively involved in a major rescue operation off the coast. Utilizing their amphibious armored suits, Lifeguards evacuated over a hundred civilians from a sinking vessel, demonstrating their unparalleled expertise in maritime operations."
Images of the yellow-armored Lifeguards splashing through the waves filled the screen. They moved with practiced ease, their suits buoyant and agile in the water. The HUDs provided real-time updates on the rescue, marking civilians and coordinating efforts seamlessly.
80LKU glanced at 60CCD. "You ever think about the Lifeguards? Seems like a different world, but still part of the same family."
60CCD shrugged. "Not really my thing. I prefer solid ground. But they’re impressive, no doubt."
The news segment transitioned to a feature on the Paramedic Corps. "The Paramedic Corps continues to set new standards in emergency medicine. Today, they showcased their latest advancements in rapid trauma care and evacuation procedures."
Footage showed Paramedics in action, their white and red suits a stark contrast against the grim backdrop of an emergency zone. The HUDs highlighted vital signs, injuries, and treatment plans, guiding the medics with unerring precision. Their efficiency was a testament to the rigorous training and advanced technology at their disposal.
The anchor’s voice carried the weight of national pride. "Remember, every day, our Security Forces stand ready to protect, serve, and ensure the safety of our Republic. Stay vigilant, stay strong. This is 4X9ZM with the Security Forces Channel News, signing off."
As the broadcast ended, 80LKU and 60CCD sat back, absorbing the information. The conversation flowed naturally as they discussed the various roles within the Security Forces, the anchor's polished presentation, and the ever-evolving nature of their duties.
"They really make it look like a well-oiled machine," 80LKU mused

short list of characters for my star blazers project
sorry if its a bit short, this is only like a couple, ill add more later
EARTH CHARACTERS Vice Admiral Juzo Okita (沖田十三) M61 Famed hero of the 2nd Battle over Mars. A stern, fearless stoic. Captain of the Yamato (UNS BBY-001) and formerly captain of the battleship Kirishima (UNS BBS-555). His battle strategies are nearly always high risk, high reward, and it miraculously always seems to work out perfectly.
Commander Mamoru Kodai (古代守) M27 Elder brother of Susumu and captain of UNS DDS-117 (JSS Yukikaze). His family was wiped out by an interplanetary bomb that struck the Miura Peninsula. Only he and his brother Susumu survived. He is shot down by the Gamilons while drawing their fire during Operation M so Okita could return home.
Commander-in-Chief Heikuro Todo (藤堂平九郎) M59 CinC of the Earth Defense Force. A calm, collected, reasonable man. Believes in the prioritization of morals over orders.
Admiral Kotetsu Serizawa (芹沢虎鉄) M55 Todo's right hand. A stern, angry, stubborn man. Harsh, immovable, but well intentioned. Reasonably disliked by the general public. Foil to Field Marshal Zöllick.
Lieutenant Commander Yuki Mori (森雪) F21 First mate aboard the Yamato, formerly a staff officer at EDF central command. Highly intelligent. A woman of great forethought and consideration. Kindhearted, consistently collected, fiercely believes in legitimate justice & the invalidity of sheer revenge, no matter how heinous the crime. Closely resembles the beautiful Sasha of Iscändar, who crashed on Mars.
Lieutenant Susumu Kodai (古代進) M19 Chief of the Tactical department. Hotheaded, righteous, brooding when upset. Mamoru's only surviving relative. Main protagonist of this story.
Lieutenant Daisuke Shima (島大介) M19 Friend and compatriot of Susumu. Yamato's Helmsman and Navigation department Chief. An expert navigator with an interest in astronomy. Calmer, more proper and more level-headed than Kodai. The exception being when Kodai is actually around, in which case Shima is even more rash and foolish than he.
Lieutenant JG Hajime Hirata (平田一) M21 An older fellow student at the Space Force academy when Kodai and Shima attended. A sort of "older brother" type friend to them.
Dr. Sakezo Sado (佐渡酒造) M54 A brilliant physician and a confidant of the Captain. Appointed as the ship's Medical department Chief despite no prior astronaval experience. A widely beloved drunkard. Cat person.
Makoto Harada (原田真琴) F21 Medic, officially a civilian.
Analyzer (AU09-Q1309) X3 AI companion of Dr. Sado and improvised autonomous subframe of the Yamato after the original was destroyed. Prefers to be called "Analyzer", as opposed to AU09 or Q1309.
Lieutenant Shiro Sanada (真田志郎) M28 Science and Technologies department Chief. A highly analytical and intellectually gifted man. His mind was designed to create machines. Highly emotionally intelligent, though bad at reading and expressing emotions. The Wave-Motion Gun is his brainchild.
Lieutenant JG Saburo Kato (加藤三郎) M23 Captain of the Yamato's Air Corps. Damn well coulda been born and raised in a cockpit, for the way he flies. Righteous, a little bit of a control freak. Close with Yamamoto.
Lieutenant JG Yasuo "Dash" Nanbu (南部"DASH"康雄) M20 Chief of Gunnery subdepartment of Tactial. Very much envies Kodai's position. About twice as hotheaded as Kodai, and 10 times as pigheaded. Excellent, loyal soldier, even if he disagrees with is commanding officers.
Ensign Yoshikazu Aihara (相原義一) M21 Operations department Chief and Comms officer. Reports to XO Mori. Sort of on-edge a lot of the time. Often overshadowed by those around him.
Ensign Kenjiro Ohta (太田健二郎) M24 Radar officer and Chief of the Space Weather Prediction subdepartment under Navigation. Eager and enthusiastically helpful. Bit of a mild Osaka hillbilly stereotype.
SP3 Haruki Ando (安藤春樹) M18 Wave-Motion Ballast & Shield technician. Brilliant kid, rushed through school with the goal of helping the cause against the Gamilons. Did not intend to be a soldier, merely a scientist, but is overjoyed nonetheless. Follows Kodai around like a duckling.
Kaoru Shintani (新谷かおる) M43 Chief OMCS technician. AKA, shipboard cook.
Lieutenant Commander Hikozaemon Tokugawa (徳川彦左衛門) M62 Chief engineer. Like Sado and Okita, quite brilliant, though quite odd. Former Chief engineer of the Kirishima. Very warm & paternal to all, considered the nice grandpa of the crew.
PO1 Sukeji Yabu (藪助治) M31 Tokugawa's favorite student. Cautious, introverted, kinda weird. Extremely intelligent. Refers to Starsha of Iscändar as a goddess.
Lieutenant JG Sho Yamazaki (山崎奨) M45 Tokugawa's official right hand.
Ensign Akira Yamamoto (山本明) F20 Another prodigy seemingly born to fly. Similarly to Kodai, she and her elder brother Akio were the only survivors of the early planet bombings by the Gamilons. ALSO similarly to Kodai, said elder brother died in Operation M. She and Kodai seem to keep ending up in bleak situations and having to save each other.
Ensign Hiroki Shinohara (篠原弘樹) M24 Deputy Captain of the ship's Air Corps. Quite unserious and smug in general. Very mature and insightful when the time calls for it. Never angry, and excellent mediator.
Lieutenant Akira Nemoto (根本明) M31 Captain of the Yamato's Marine Corps. Cold, quiet. Foolhardy, but a quick learner. Eager to kill Gamilons.
Corporal Kazuhiko Sugiyama (杉山和彦) M18 Deputy Captain of the ship's space Marines. Smug asshole most of the time, but humbles up quick when he deems it necessary. Doesn't like to take things too far. An EXCELLENT shot.
MCPO Isami Enomoto (榎本勇) M36 Boatswain's Mate. Kodai, Shima, and Hirata's former Practical Skills instructor. Simultaneously bubbly and friendly & strict and unforgiving.
PO3 Shinpei Iwata (岩田新平) and SP1 Kiyoshi Toyama (遠山清) M27 and M26 3rd deck operators. Inseparable. Idiots. Simultaneously fully competent and woefully incompetent. Often subjected to Enomoto's wrath.
WO2 Yuria Misaki (岬百合亜) F19 Member of the Supply department and self-proclaimed ESP haver.
WO2 Shigeru Hayashi (林繁) M18 Member of the Navigation department, plagued by visions (suffering from nightmares).
Lieutenant Kaoru Niimi (新見薫) F37 Chief of the Security department. Friend of Serizawa.
Lieutenant JG Shinya Itou (伊東真也) M21 Chief of the Armed Security department. Eerily friendly. Unnervingly polite. Gives of bad vibes.
WO1 Toru Hoshina (星名透) M19 Member of the Armed Security department. Love interest of Misaki.

Keys backstory that I had typed up originally for that ask and then deleted because like who asked for that... but I wanna have it on my blog anyway so
"Keys" is his call sign and he kept he when he went into shadows/became a mercenary. He is ex military (marine corps) and has been doing runner work for twenty years.
Growing up, he was a very like. by the book standard good Christian American boy. he did not come from the greatest home but he never really thought about it, it was very normal. He was very good in athletics and got decent-ish grades and was very quickly scouted out by military recruitment at a young age.
In a way, joining the military before he even left school was a very "make my parents proud" moment. But it was more so just an inevitability. There was nothing else he would do, he was set on that path from such a young age that the idea of other possibilities were inconceivable. Much like a lot of other young men his age.
He married his high school sweetheart. While a lot of things in his life were not of his control and he was going through the motions, he did genuinely love her. He was a good husband and a good solider. But things fell apart.
He was becoming increasingly disillusioned with his role in the American/UCAS military. It was harder & harder to follow orders and to accept his active role in what he was doing. He developed PTSD and often had reoccurring nightmares of fulfilling an order, only to find that he's murdered his own family. He tried to push through it, tried to constantly remind himself that he has to be fighting for something good, right. it can't all be for nothing?
Two major things happened.
One. His wife got pregnant. Fortunately, he was there for the birth of his first child. Unfortunately, the first thought that came into his head is how fragile an infant is. The first thought he had seeing his daughter was of him crushing her with his hands. He refused to hold her. He refused to ever hold her. This put a massive strain on his marriage. He became super distant and spent a longer time away from. He missed a lot of milestones in his daughters life.
The second thing is what made him break. An incident that resulted in the death of several of his squad mates and civilians. He deserted and was MIA for several years and presumed dead.
For a while he was very off grid. He thought about suicide, he thought about what he should even do. He really sank into some pits of despair around this time. He really internalized that he is an awful person and completely irredeemable. Around this time he met a shadowrunner who convinced him to try running the shadows and put his skills to good use. And it's not like Keys had much else to do, killing is all he knows.
So he became a shadowrunner/merc. and He's been doing it for a very long time. He's got code but he's still very much a cold professional. He lives by the idea that he is simply not a good person, so it's no use trying to pretend. He's cynical, gruff, and keeps to himself. He's been around the block and is pretty wise. He hasn't slowed down in his age and a lot of younger runners he works with underestimate him for it.
He has no contact with his (now ex) wife and child but he does keep tabs on them. His only possessions are his dog tags, wedding ring, and a photo of his wife & daughter that he keeps tucked away. He claims to have made his peace with it and figures it's best if he stays away from them. He did have a final goodbye with his wife but refused to ever meet his daughter again.
He takes on a lot of jobs and doesn't stick with a team. He's earned quite a reputation that way even though he really hates having attention drawn to him. He's always presenting himself as this death seeking 'nothing matters' kind of merc, you know, a sort of sociopath energy that freaks enemies out. But one thing that's hard to beat his instinctual desire to protect even towards strangers. It's probably the only thing that keeps him from just laying down and dying.
#oc keys#i feel like the way i talk or my writers voice or w/e its called its very obnoxious and dumb#but whatever im shutting up now !

@galaeus sent a meme.
❛ I wish I could say I’m making a difference, but I don’t know. ❜
He watched from the platform over the firing range as one of the dozens of units in training were being drilled through the field stripping and cleaning of their standard issue weapons, fingers twitching unconsciously in time with the motions that had been drilled into him in his youth. To be able to fight, to be able to protect themselves, their units, the civilians of the UNSC, such tasks had to be rote memory, to be drilled over and over and over again so that they could be performed in the most exhausted states, under pressures that most of the cadets in the range below could not even begin to imagine, despite their best attempts to do so.
He wondered if he'd ever been that young. That naive.
Her words drew his attention and his gaze, and brought him turning on his heel to face her, watching her as she tucked the last parts of her fatigues in place. She'd taken it onto herself to add additional hours into her training regimen for the Spartan-III's, and he'd offered to observe and offer suggestions that might further benefit her; he had little else to do in between missions and despite the fact that the Covenant's attacks had only increased in the last weeks, there seemed an ever increasing gap between missions for the already existing Spartans. He'd needed a way to keep himself occupied, and even though he couldn't offer much in the way of hands on training without potentially decimating the upcoming Spartan class, advice he could do.
When it came to skills, and tactics. Moral dilemmas and morale weren't entirely his specialty.
He could've offered platitudes: every marine makes a difference, every soldier matters, but he knew her well enough by now to know she'd see them for what they were. There were mixed feelings in the Spartan-II's about this up and coming 'generation'. These third gens were nothing like them. Most of them were being pulled from already active duty, and sure, their training programs were rigorous and extreme in comparison to standard marine corps, but they didn't have the augments of the second gens, they didn't have the MJOLNIR or the capacity to wear them. What makes them worthy of the name?
"You're putting yourself through the nine levels of hell to come out the other side, stronger, faster, smarter, better, to protect your people, your pack, your home, your family." Maybe not the same levels of hell that he and his had been through, but with all that he'd learned in the last weeks, would he really wish that on anyone? Halsey had convinced ONI and UNSC that he and his Spartans would be the difference between victory and death, and for what? They were still losing. "We fight for the ones that can't, so you have to decide. Are you going to do what it takes, make that stand, make that difference, or are you going to hand that mantle to someone that will."
#IC.#ANSWERED.#GALAEUS#JOHN & ECHO.#VERSE. ( halo. )#lmk if anything needs tweaked i just kinda ran with this based on what we'd talked about!

last update: 11/16/23
sacha dhawan. 40. agender. he/they.┊┊ AMAR KAPOOR, better known as agent PHOENIX has been with cerberus corp as an eo since 2014 and is LEVEL II. FALLING INTO THE HUDSON RIVER IN THE WINTER has gifted them REGENERATIVE HEALING FACTOR / SELF-RESURRECTION, though HE STILL FEELS EVERY INJURY AND DEATH / HEALING IS PAINFUL has also been noted. when they aren’t protecting the tri-state area, they are fond of SUDOKU and are never seen without A VINTAGE ITALIAN STILETTO SWITCHBLADE. civilians think they are AMBITIOUS & COURAGEOUS, but some of the other agents see them as PARANOID & VOLATILE. cerberus corp should consider the fact that their last mission status was SUCCESSFUL BUT A PR NIGHTMARE when giving out the next one. ┊┊
001. GENERAL
name: amar kapoor | nicknames: zombie (don't call him this unless you're picking a fight) | age: 40 | date of birth: august 25, 1983 | zodiac virgo sun, pisces moon, scorpio rising | place of birth: londone, uk | current residence: brooklyn | gender: agender | pronouns: he/they | sexuality: bisexual | occupation: cerberus corp. level II agent | faceclaim: sacha dhawan | height: 5'7" | tattoos: ouroboros around his right wrist (temporary tattoo) | piercings: both earlobes, right eyebrow (clip ons)
distinguishing features shaved head, a nevus in his right eye near his iris positive traits ambitious, loyal, adaptable, proactive, courageous negative traits abrasive, insecure, suspicious, workaholic labels / tropes: hero with bad publicity, always someone better, jade colored glasses, heroic fatigue, fights like normal character inspiration: Marc Specter (Moon Knight), Miguel O'hara (Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse) likes animals, dogs, kids, dislikes the status quo, egomaniacs, the press fears his life not amounting to anything hobbies jogging, sudoku, computer games habits languishing, moping, lurking
002. EXTRA ORDINARY
near death experience…
[ tw suicidal ideation, panic attack, drowning ]
Amar stared down into the frigid depths of the Hudson river from the safety of the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge, hands gripped on to the railing as he watched the current swirling beneath him. It’s not like he actually wanted to die—well, not really. He was just tired of everything; of working himself to the bone for years with nothing to show for it.
If he jumped right now maybe a miracle would happen and he’d become an EO and everything would instantly change.
The icy air stung his nose and the warm puffs of his quickening breath blinded him as his heart pounded in his chest. Did he even have the determination to pull this off or would he just end up dying after living pathetically for twenty three years? A joyless, manic chortle escaped from behind his clattering teeth. ‘This is so stupid,’ He thought, as he took a step away from the edge.
Too bad for him that his worn out work boots had no traction on the iced over metal of the bridge. His arms flew forward to the guardrail in front of him as he slipped, but the frantic motion of his legs as he tried to regain balance only added to his momentum. The old, rusted rail never stood a chance as he barreled into it with the full force of his entire weight.
He didn’t even get a chance to scream before he hit the water.
Days later, after he had been reported missing by his parents and the search team had pulled him out of the water, he had woken up confused and disoriented in the morgue. They had called it a miracle of science, a case of accidental cryopreservation that had ripped him out deaths grasp.
[ /end of tw ]
power… [ tw references to/mentions of bodily harm, body horror, gore, mutilation ]
Amar has a regenerative healing factor that allows for reattachment/regrowth of injured/severed body parts as well as enhanced healing and self-resurrection. As long as there is a piece of him in existence that still contains an unchanged/undamaged portion of his DNA he can (eventually) come back to life.
drawbacks / vulnerabilities… His power does not give him any enhanced strength, however, it may not appear that way to others. Think of him as abiding by zombie strength rules i.e. while he is only as physically strong as any other non-EO, the knowledge that he can heal his injuries allows him to push past the mental block of self preservation that would stop anyone else.
His healing is not instantaneous and the more severe the injury the longer it will take him to regenerate. Healing is also painful as his nerve endings are grown in tandem with whatever he lost. His ability will also prioritize what gets healed first based on the severity of the injury. In other words, if he were to get a paper cut but is otherwise uninjured, the wound would heal almost immediately but if he had a paper cut + a head wound the paper cut would not heal until the head injury was finished healing.
The portion of his body has the most mass is the 'core' and all healing is done from that central point. Anything that was severed and is away from the 'core' will rot naturally though he is able to reattached pieces if they can be located before his healing factor can regrow it.
He experiences phantom pains of old, long healed injuries and nightmares about previous deaths.
[ /end of tw ]
(if applicable) cerberus corp… Amar was a vigilante prior to the inception of Cerberus Corp and was ecstatic when he found out that there was a coalition of heroic EO's. Because of the nature of his powers, he was recruited on his first try.
codename… He was torn between the name 'Ouroboros' and 'Phoenix' for a long time but ultimately decided that a bird is more marketable than a snake. Some of the people that have seen him in action have started calling him 'Agent Zombie' but you shouldn't say that to his face if you're not trying to start a fight. 😤😠
003. EXTRA
Phoenix was demoted from a Level I agent to Level II after multiple videos of him being mauled by a monster went viral on the internet. This event caused a media storm that brought Cerberus Corp's concern for the safety of their agents into question.
There are vials of blood and tissue samples of Amar in various quantities at Cerberus Corp HQ, just in case.
He is only the face of the company during Halloween (which he hates).
Amar was a USPS driver prior to his NDE.
He is the middle child of a family of 5. His older brother is a Cardiologist and his younger sister is a lawyer.

Pride [Part 1]
18+ ONLY
[Part 2] [Part 3]
a/n: I was going to stay away from Levi for a short while, but how could I?
Summary: An unexpected re-union with your ex lover gets you in a spot of trouble. Will you listen to what he has to say?
Warnings: 18+, light sexual themes(for now, I can´t stay out of Levi´s pants for too long), controlling behavior
Word Count: 5562
🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓
''Empty your pockets,'' a voice that sends your mind two years into the past causes you to gasp softly, to your annoyance your heart decides to skip a beat and speed up, not a good sign. You are scared to turn around in case that voice does not belong to Levi Ackerman. ''I won't say it again.''
You stop a few steps down the stairs that lead to the tunnel which is how you got Above in the first place. You're nervous, but not because you're about to get caught with jewelry you've stolen, you've been caught plenty of times before. You hear steps behind you and the hairs on the back of your neck stand when the draught gets redirected by the man that is approaching you.
''Let's make this easy, you hand over everything you stole and I let you go,'' Levi's voice is quiet, but demanding as ever. You turn to face him and even though there is hardly any light in the stairwell your stomach sinks. You want to throw your arms around him and be held by him, but two years of resentment held against him has rooted itself into your heart and all you can do is scoff.
''I haven't stolen anything,'' lying comes easy to you, growing up Underground taught you to lie. Unfortunately, the one person who had always been able to read you is standing right in front of you. It doesn't stop you from expressing as much defiance with your body language as you can.
''Tch. Empty your pockets,'' Levi takes a step closer to you. His voice had already unlocked plenty of memories you'd locked away, but the strong draught brings a subtle touch of mint into your consciousness. And just like that, many late nights flash behind your eyes. ''You're testing me now, brat.''
''Since when do the Survey Corps get involved with civilians?'' You still don't move. You have had to deal with the MP way too many times, but something about Levi being brought back to you after all these years makes you want to share a longer moment with him, even if it's unpleasant.
''You had a chance to be a civilian, you said no,'' his body language is stiff. More so than what you're used to. ''Empty your pockets, I won't ask again.''
''I don't belong here, Levi,'' you blatantly ignore his request. He may be a Captain of a squad, but you're not a part of that squad anymore. Levi takes another step closer and the mint becomes a part of your existence.
''Not if you're going to be stealing,'' Levi moves quickly, but with no effort, flawless like always. You don't even register his motion, when you're pressed against the ragged stone wall, your chin pressing against the cold surface and you squirm when your wrists bend dangerously behind your back. ''I warned you, brat,'' his lips nearly touch your ear, there is not an ounce of anger in his voice. He sounds as annoyed as always.
''You're quicker than those pigs from MP,'' you can barely talk, each word is accompanied by a shallow cut of a sharp stone into your cheek. You attempt to kick Levi's shin, your death sentence is signed already, you might as well go down fighting, but he cuts off your attempt to fight him by pushing his knee into the back of your thigh and kicking your leg to the side, making it difficult for you to use any force. You feel Levi's body press against you and you betray your trying to act cool by inhaling sharply.
''I have a nice cell for you, if you keep this up, Curls,'' Levi's voice drops and you can tell that he's not joking. His body is pressing you roughly against the wall and your present gets overshadowed by the past once more when he mentions the name he used to call you.
''Do you remember the last time you had me against this wall?'' Levi shifts behind you and your ears tingle when you feel him become breathless. Not three years ago he had you pressed against this same wall, only a little further down the steps, where it was dark enough, but you could still hear the busy streets above you. He had demanded that you wear a skirt that night, you had made it yourself and you thought it was way too girly and short. You had never worn it until Levi insisted that you wear it. It was a date of sorts, he had promised to show you stars, he had promised to show you how people date Aboveground, but you hadn't made it further than these damned stairs.
''There is no time for sentiments, brat,'' Levi's voice sounds constrained. He holds you in place with his knee. ''Don't make this harder than it needs to be,'' Levi pats you down and he is very thorough. If you disconnect for long enough you can just imagine that he's giving you a massage until a metallic sound echoes the stone walls around you, and then again. You realize that he's throwing everything you had hidden away on the ground.
''You had a chance to live a respectable life,'' you're being spun in the very tight space between Levi and the wall and end up face to face with your ex lover. Levi has placed his hands on either side of your head, locking you in place. The more time you spend in his presence the less you can resist your memories flooding your thoughts. ''You still can,'' Levi's movements still as he looks at you.
''And what? Die like Fur and Izzy did?'' Levi looks down at those words, guilt washing over his face. It's rare to see him sporting an expression that isn't a paler shade of annoyed.
''What you're doing isn't living,'' Levi stands up straight, releasing you from the restraints of his arms. ''Join me, you can learn to love freedom,'' your heart jolts at those words and betrays you, and for a moment you can imagine yourself out in the streets, walking hand in hand with Levi, like he had promised all those years ago. But before you listen to your heart your head is already saying no. Levi nods to show that he understood, you can tell that he's holding back his words. He reaches in his back pocket and holds something out for you. When you realize it's money you feel a surge of anger fill your veins.
''I don't need your charity, Levi,'' you knock his hand away from you. Levi's expression changes, he looks angry and defeated, but not as angry as you feel.
''Next time I see you, there will be bars between us, brat,'' Levi drops the money at your feet and stalks off into the distant light. It feels almost symbolic, Levi leaving you again. He had tried to get you to join him once before, telling you about the stars, the people and the freedom that being Above brings. He told you so many wonderful things, except he forgot to mention that he needs you. He had tried to sell the world, but he seemed to have forgotten to ask you to join him, like he had when he formed your little squad of thugs Underground.
🍓🍓🍓
He had been watching your movements for a while now. Your pattern was simple, whenever there was any event that attracted huge crowds you would appear and take anything that wasn't tied down and could be easily moved around. Recently you had started getting bolder, getting as far as flirting with married men to slip their wedding bands off their fingers. He didn't mind it, you had to do what you had to do, but, when the MPs started noticing you, he had to get involved.
He had thought about visiting you nearly every sleepless night that he spent in his office. He hadn't slept in a bed since you'd left him, but he didn't know how to explain to you that he did what he did to make a future for the two of you. But then Isabel and Furlan died under his watch and everything changed. He had looked for you then, looking for comfort in your arms, but you wouldn't have it. In your eyes leaving Underground was betrayal and returning from that faithful expedition without her brother and best friend had been the end of your contact with him. And so he accepted Commander Erwin's terms and dedicated every single day of his life to serve humanity. Until you appeared Above.
The Survey Scouts had just returned from another expedition. Commander Erwin was facing the angry crowd of parents of lost soldiers and Levi, as always, scanned hundreds of faces out of pure instinct. Angry civilians wasn't dangerous, angry anti-military activists however was a different story. But then the time stopped. He had to look twice, but he saw you, and you didn't even know. He saw your curls wildly swirl with the wind. He watched you hug a grieving mother and shamelessly pick her pockets.
You were lucky that he had been walking with Commander Erwin today. Levi didn't even need to see your face to recognize your petite stature - only people from Underground hadn't grown into their bodies, the lack of Sun and nutrients had left you looking small and frail, even if you could take down most of his Squad members - his doing of course. What you didn't know at the time was that you were flirting with a member of the MP who was out of uniform.
A knot formed in Levi's chest when he saw you slide your slender fingers over Commander Nile's forearm. Levi saw Nile's reaction after you had slipped your hand in his pocket and emptied it. You had missed it, it had been a long day for you and you never worried about civilians too much. Levi stayed behind in the town square, watching Nile's movements and when he saw him send two MPs after you, he intercepted them and convinced them to let him go after you.
He had decided to scare you, make you more cautious, he could see that you had become more reckless. When he followed you down the stairs he felt like he was going home. He had pondered how to approach you, but he decided that you will have to lead the conversation. So, when your big eyes faced him for the first time in years and you became hostile already, he realized that you have not forgotten or forgiven his mistakes.
Pushing you against the wall brought back memories that had been playing in his head whenever he would be alone under starlight. Stars kept the memory of you alive. You were always with him under the dark sky, keeping him company. His biggest regret was that he had never shown you the beauty that the world could bring. However, being reminded why you hadn't made it as far as the top of the steps had his cock growing painfully in his already tight uniform.
He is now standing in his office, looking out the window, replaying your words in his head over and over. The sound of your voice alone had him hard in no time. Do you remember the last time you had me against this wall? Levi has to close his eyes for a moment to pull himself together. He had often replayed that memory to help him. Women used to fall hard for him, the main reason being that he could last in bed for hours. What they didn't realize was that when he finally succumbed to his body it was because of you and that slutty little skirt that you had put on just for him.
The truth was that he hadn't wanted you to show your legs to some asshole from Above, and as you were going up those stairs he could see your ass and he just couldn't not have you then and there, your moans echoing in the stone stairway. And he couldn't stop there, he had dragged you back into the tunnel and you couldn't sit properly for a week after that night. He inhales sharply and tries to think of anything else. Without really putting too much thought into it he has come to a resolve, he will break you and make you his, whatever it takes, even if it means breaking himself in the process.
Two things Levi knew for sure. First, the money he threw at your feet would anger you and keep him in your head long enough for you to show your pretty face in the sun eventually. Second, he would catch you again and get you stay Above one way or other. It was time he fulfilled his promise to take care of you, and sometimes tough love was better than nothing.
🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓
You wake up the next day and the first thing you see is the money you picked up after Levi had left. You had spent a long time debating whether you should touch it. You had decided to sleep on it, see how you feel in the morning. Cheap you think to yourself and make a decision. You will not be humiliated by Levi. You get dressed quickly and for the second time this week you start making your way Above.
The first time you had stepped outside the Underground was shortly after three of your best friends had left on a mission, which lead to two of them dying, one of them being your brother. You had gone after them after having changed your mind, you couldn't stay Underground without them. But the moment you saw the bright light and hundreds of voices from energetic people you got scared. After that, you often made your way towards the outside world, but only when Furlan and Isabel died did you actually make it outside.
You had decided to surprise the Survey Corps on their return, greet your friends and, even if you couldn't join them on their expeditions, you wanted to be a part of their lives. You saw Levi return first, but one look at his face and you knew. And when Levi had come to you, you couldn't bear to look at him. He was so broken and riddled with guilt you didn't want your pain to make it harder for him.
The short meeting you had had with Levi had you feeling a certain kind of way. You wanted to see him again... of course you wanted to see him again. Driven by a surge of emotions you made the steps and stepped into the light once more. You always felt intimidated by the vast world, but sunlight felt good on your skin. You stand in the light for a short moment and let the gentle rays caress your skin. Even spending a couple of hours in the sun yesterday your skin already started changing color.
You realize that you had no plan once you start walking through the streets. Where do the Survey Scouts gather? You didn't really want to get involved with the MP, seeing as some of them already started to recognize you. And so you wander around, your curly hair is wild today, you hadn't braided it like you normally would, intentionally this time. You scan every single person that passes you and force yourself not to get overwhelmed with the vast numbers of people in your vicinity.
🍓🍓🍓
Levi finds you first. You didn't know he was waiting for you to fall for his trap. He watches you wander around town, looking for him. He was going to intercept you at the gate to the stairs, but when he notices you enjoying sun, his heart fills with hope. You look beautiful in the golden light and he enjoys your moment in the sun as much as you're enjoying the sun. And then he watches you from the rooftop. You're drawing attention with your locks, but Levi's got your back, nobody is going to get away with looking at you for longer than necessary.
He softly lands on the ground, causing a bunch of MPs to get nervous. Survey Corps don't usually hang out the Town Square. But Levi doesn't care. In fact, he wants the MP involved. He watches you make your way to the middle of the square and sit on the large well. You close your eyes and face the sun once more. You will have a chance to do this every day, my love Levi thinks to himself. I'm sorry for this next part.
''Oi, brat!'' Levi feels like he has disturbed an endangered animal.
🍓🍓🍓
You hear Levi's voice in your day dream, but you open your eyes anyway and you have to blink several times to adjust your eyes to the light before you realize that he is standing in front of you. He knew you will come to seek him out. But how?
''What did I tell you yesterday?'' Levi steps in front of you, giving you a pleasant shade. You're not used to this much sun, so you're grateful to some extent.
''I've come to return the money, Levi,'' you say defiantly.
''I will ask you a question one last time, Curls, and if you give me the wrong answer, well.. you know the consequences.'' You're surprised to hear him talk like this. It feels almost rehearsed.
''I only came to return the money, Levi,'' you hold the money up between two fingers. You can't help but notice the obvious threat in his statement. A hint of torment appears in Levi's eyes.
''The money that you STOLE?'' he is practically shouting. You jump at the sudden change in his tone and notice two MPs make their way towards you. You look at Levi angrily, how could you have fallen for his trap this easily?
Fight or flight. Flight. Fighting Levi alone would be near impossible, so you run. You gracefully run along the edge of the large fountain and try to locate yourself before heading down a narrow street. ODM gear is useless in tight spaces, so you take the advantage of the shadows and close walls, still trying to remember which way you came from.
You find yourself alone in an empty alleyway. The sounds of the town are barricaded by the thick stone walls. You see a couple of rats scurry into the drain and wish you could follow them and just get home. You realize you have hit a dead-end.
🍓🍓🍓
''I've got her,'' Levi shouts at the two MPs and watches your curls bounce in the bright sun as you make your way across the fountain. You look free. He vows to take that freedom away for only a short time. He lets you get a head start, all he needs to know is which direction you went. He knows he will find you, he always does.
Levi quietly follows you over the rooftops, no need to startle you yet. Let you be free for a while longer. He also wants to see how your mind works. You're like a little rat in a labyrinth, trying to get to the cheese, he is proud to see you navigate the outside world so well. You, of course, don't know that you're heading farther away from home, but that works out for Levi. A part of him wants to help you , but how else will you learn?
When he realizes you have found yourself at a dead-end, he decides that there is no better time to stop your fleeing. He sees you kneel down and look longingly after the rats that dove into the sewers. He remembers how you used to bring them home to your frustrated mother and name them. He gently lands on his feet behind you, but you hear him and the expression you wear doesn't help Levi's increasing need to chain you up.
''You're coming with me, brat,'' he takes up most of the space you could use to escape and takes a few steps closer. He sees you reach for the knife he knows is hidden in the belt of your pants and it amuses him. ''Don't put yourself behind bars for longer than necessary.''
''I see that being here suits you well, Levi,'' you're shooting daggers at him, it breaks to see you like this, like a cornered animal. He knows that you will try to fight your way out, but he knows you too well to let yourself get hurt, so before you do anything with that knife that he realizes is the same one he had given you on your 18th birthday, he makes the first move. No time for sentiments, Levi.
He watches your eyes, he watches your slight movements, waiting for you to strike first. He knows you won't attack unless absolutely necessary, so he makes a quick movement towards you to get you to swipe at you, and just like he knew you would bring the money back, you swipe at him. He sees the surprise in your face when he doesn't step back from your attack, but steps into it.
You find yourself pressed up against another wall. He's holding both of your hands above your head and he does something to your wrist that causes you to release the knife. He feels his trousers tighten when he hears a soft moan escape your lips from the force you hit the wall. He recognizes that moan and it gets his carnal brain going. He grits his teeth and tries to bring himself back to focus, you're the only one that could make him crave you from subtle sounds and those big, innocent eyes that used to look at him when your mouth was full of his dick haunt him even now.
''I'm doing this for you, brat,'' his voice sounds harsher than he had intended to, but you're clearly not listening to what he's saying. ''Turn around,'' Levi's voice softens. When you don't oblige and a challenge appears in your expression he realizes that you haven't changed much. He remembers all the times he had to bail you out and he can see the betrayal in your eyes from being the person to put you through this. But he goes through the motions anyway, he knows that this is what you need to finally listen to him.
🍓🍓🍓
As you lie on the hard bed in the cell you wonder what went wrong. You had been doing well enough for yourself. After Levi left Underground you had to learn to fend for yourself. Levi wasn't there to protect you anymore. You grew up very quickly, you put all the knowledge he'd provided you with to survive and learnt to stick to the shadows both Underworld and Above.
You hear a door open somewhere down the long hallway and light steps approaching. It's not any of the MPs because they walked with heavy steps, having spent their lives within the walls they never learnt to avoid being heard. You already know it's Levi, although you're not sure how.
''Good morning, sunshine,'' Levi's voice bears a hint of mockery. You hear a chair getting dragged across the ground. It's going to be a long day. ''Are you ready to listen?''
You scoff and turn on your side. You have never been in a cell before, all the other times you got caught you always got away with it.
''I have all day, brat,'' you hear metal hitting metal. ''Are you going to eat at least?''
Your stomach rumbles painfully the moment the thought of food comes to your mind. You're used to eating whenever and whatever you get your hands on, but, since you refused to take food from the MP pigs all day yesterday after getting thrown into the cell, you now realize that starvation will probably be the least pleasant option.
''Two things can happen now, the way I see it,'' Levi's voice fills your small cell. The way you're feeling - alone, trapped and vulnerable, makes you feel safer with Levi around, even though he is the one to put you in this position in the first place. ''You let me take care of you or I leave the MPs to do whatever they please.''
''What you did was illegal,'' you talk to the wall, your stomach is still painfully grumbling under your own embrace.
''You have stolen enough to be sent out to work the land with no pay, brat,'' Levi's voice has returned to his calm and collected one. ''Let's start with something small, come and eat.'' The back of your neck tingles, you can feel his eyes on you, but the tone of voice that hits your consciousness could bring you to your knees. You realize that pride is not your best choice right now and you sit up.
''That's my girl,'' Levi's words catch you by surprise, but when you look at him your breath is caught somewhere in your lungs. He's wearing the grey shirt you had once made for him. The material has worn out and you can see how muscular he is underneath it. Levi had always been lean, two years in Military and using the ODM gear had made his body defined. He stands up from the chair and holds out the plate of food for you through the bars.
You snatch the food from his hands and sit back on the hard bed.
🍓🍓🍓
''I will take her, I know her, Nile,'' Levi tries to convince the Commander of the MPs to hand you over to the Survey Corps. Levi knows that it will be easy, after all, you're just a petty thief. The only problem is that he recognizes you as the one who got him in trouble with his wife. Levi knows that MPs are so bored with their job that the most petty shit gets to them and they take it out on whoever is at arm's reach.
''She needs to go through the trial, like everyone else,'' Nile looks at Levi from behind his desk. His shirt is covered in red wine stains and he is not completely sober from what Levi can tell.
''And waste tax-payer's money? You know that she's from Underground, right? She won't stay quiet and take punishment like civilians do around here,'' Levi knows that the MP are scared of the public. Where Survey Corps always take shit about wasting money on their expeditions, MPs get away with not doing anything and having an easy life. ''She has no money to give back and keeping her in prison will just add another mouth to feed, we don't need that. Keep the prisons for the traitors.''
''You were very interested in capturing her, is this your attempt at courting a woman?'' Nile leans over his desk and examines Levi with a smirk on his face. ''You do know there are brothels Underground, Captain, much quicker and easier that way.''
The anger that spreads through Levi's body like wildfire sees him nearly feed his blade to the pathetic man before him, but he clenches his jaw and counts to ten in his head. Each count sees Nile's head hitting the ground by his feet. Levi manages to get his focus back, barely, his patience is wearing thin.
''She's the sister of Furlan, Commander, I promised him I would take care of her,'' Nile doesn't look interested in anything he has to say. Levi has no time for this, he has his own duties to fulfill, his squad has been leaderless for days now. ''I will keep her off the streets.''
''Very well, you're boring me now, Captain. She's all yours,'' Nile winks at Levi and dismisses him with a shake of his hand. Levi makes his way down to the cells, but something bothers him. If a dumbass like Nile could see through his pathetic attempt at getting you to stay with him, it means he's slipping. There is no emotion in Military and if someone catches on to Levi actually having feelings it will be used against him at some point. But he can't let you return to Underground, not after he saw you come Above so willingly and on your own.
Seeing you lying on the hard bed and behind bars makes him want to let you go, but it has to come from you. He watches you devour the food he'd brought you, worried that you will get sick eating as fast as you are.
''Slow down, Curls,'' Levi sits back in his seat and crosses his legs, the truth is, he doesn't have all day. He needs you to agree to come with him soon or it will get very complicated. He can't lose you now that you're in his grip. ''So what will it be, are you staying here until they finally remember about your existence or are you coming with me?''
You look almost feral when you look up, having the fire return to your eyes is a sight Levi has been waiting to witness with his own eyes. He stays calm and gives you a chance to take a breath from eating. He notices several scars that hadn't been there before. If only he had stayed and protected you. But he knows that you can take care of yourself, you're a fighter and that's what probably got you the scars in the first place.
''The moment I leave this cell, I am going back home , Levi,'' he stands up and walks to the cell. He opens the cell door and with a gesture that says you're free to go steps back from the door. He can see the doubt in your eyes, you're cautious, but you stand up anyway. That hesitation is what makes Levi that this will be easier than he thought. ''Give me my knife back,'' Levi raises his eyebrow at you, he knows you have a collection of daggers and throwing knives, but you're asking back for the one that has both of your initials on it.
You approach him, not taking your big eyes off him which drives him crazy, you look like a wild animal, begging to be tamed. He reaches in his back pocket and holds the knife out on his palm. He knows your movement like he knows himself, so when you reach for the knife he is able to pull you hard against him before you even realize. The gasp that leaves your mouth drives him crazy and he is a lost man. But he finds himself again on your lips. The resistance that turns to a response is all he needs to keep going. His hands are entangled in your curls and he's tasting your lips like a man starved.
🍓🍓🍓
You could tell it was coming, but you didn't know that you would allow yourself to indulge in what had been playing on your mind for so long. Kissing Levi is home, it's what you have needed ever since he left you. Levi's tongue fills your mouth and you try to savor the moment, for the future. You haven't been touched for years, in fact the hands that are entangled in your hair are the hands that brought you pleasure last time.
You feel yourself get carried away, you forget where you are or why you are there. You are back Underground and everything is alright, you will be alright. But you won't be. He's trying to take you away from home. You push against his chest and break your kiss. Your lips are tingling and missing him already. Your body is missing him already. Through shallow breaths Levi looks at you.
''You made your decision Levi, you can't have it both ways,'' you whisper and feel his hands leave your hair.
''Very well,'' Levi steps back from you and gestures towards the stairs. You look at him, hesitant, he had been desperate to get you in this cell, why is he letting you go? ´´You will come back to me, Curls, you can´t stay away.´´ You wish you could say otherwise. His voice is seductive, he had always known how to get you to fold with no effort, part of you wanted to give in right there and then.
It´s the pride that makes you step away from him, each step further away hurts. All you need to do is return to his arms and you will be safe. You had never blamed Levi for your brother and Izzy´s deaths, how could you? They had faced monsters that are unfathomable even from the description and drawings in the books. Your pride is keeping you away from him because he chose Military before you. You can tell that he´s thriving and that´s what hurts you. Izzy used to say that Levi was the greatest of Underground, but you kept overhearing whispers from crowds and crowds of people calling him Humanity´s Greatest. For someone from Underground to become the hope of humanity meant a lot. He belonged to Military. And you will come to that conclusion soon enough, when you finally return to him.

the questions here for each section are suggestions to get you thinking. as long as the section is appropriately elaborated upon, you’re fine!
near death experience…
[trigger warning: drowning]
It was all meant to be a bit of fun. If she listened to her mama though she would not be working towards her dream of being one of the number one heroes. How she came to her powers was nothing all that thrilling like the legends you greek tragedies or ones adorn on comic pages. Her near death experience was a moment of stupidity really, she knew better not to go skating on frozen lakes. Even though she had done it a thousand times before! When the ice started to crack, she thought she would have enough time one more spin before taken to a frozen watery grave, as the shards of ice broke beneath her feet. She remembers the cold, her temperature dropping. Then seeing this mysterious blue light...it was strange. But sometime strange can be good, leading to the weird and wonderful world of her powers. Not giving up, with her body temperature dropping, as she looked up with the hint of light she saw, swimming up. She knew the struggle would come, slipping as she pulled herself up with ease. Yet that didn't happen, her hands touched the ice and instead of a slippery grasp, her hold was firm and tight like grasping tightly from the rope. It was strange and unusual little did she know...that was her first time using her powers.
power…
Friction Manipulation: Allows Sabryna the ability to control and manipulate friction. With her power, she is able to alter the level of friction between objects and surfaces in a wide range of possibilities that alter some basic laws of physics. In order to activate the power, she must physically touch the surface she wishes to alter. She does not need to touch every individual surface, such as if she touched a wall, her alternation will apply to all walls in the area not just the single wall she has made contact with.
LEVEL ONE: BASIC FRICTION MANIPULATION
During this stage of her power development, she is only able to apply her power to small surface areas, as she progresses through her power leveling, the surface area will also increase. For now, she is only able to manipulate any surface that is the size of both her hands and feet. During this stage, she is only able to alter the friction of herself and surfaces, she is not yet able to affect other people’s own friction.
Friction Glide: allows to increase speed and movement by reducing the friction between her feet and the chosen surface. A way that she tends to travel in order to arrive at the scene swiftly and quickly. However, lacks very much control and coordination. Her speed and coordination will increase the better she gains her power. When Friction glide is activated, a soft glow will shine from behind the activated contacted surfaces.
Friction Reduction: this move allows the user to decrease the amount of friction between surfaces and objects resulting in smoother movement and reduced resistance. This allows Sabryna to make slippery surfaces, minimising the friction that hinders motion. When a surface is selected to be reduced it will glow a light shade of blue until engaged with another surface. This effect is only temporary and will fade in time.
Friction Increase: this allows her to increase the friction between objects or surfaces, providing a stronger grip or enhancing stability. She can create a rougher surface or increase the coefficient of friction, making it harder for objects to slide. When a surface is selected to be increased it will glow a dark shade of blue until engaged with another surface. This is only temporary and will fade in time.
Friction Awareness: gives her the ability to sense and perceive the level of friction in her environment, allowing her to make informed decision-making. She is able to detect the amount of friction present, her eyes glaze a soft tinted blue as she is scanning her surroundings looking at the gauge to if it is high or low and is able to adjust it accordingly through her touch. The range that she is able to detect will increase the stronger she gets with her power.
Looking at the levels of friction she has the capacity to control is playing around with Dry Friction, however, she is is experimenting around with fluid friction, skin friction, Lubricated fiction and Internal friction.
That is all for Now....>:3c
drawbacks / vulnerabilities…
Balance and Coordination Challenges: she is clumsy without her powers, when she is constantly altering the interactions between the body and environment she is disrupting her limited balance and coordination. She is always falling over, the more she uses her power the more likely she is to misstep and fall over due to her unbalanced center of gravity. For her, she is finding it far more difficult to ice skate, due to the the change of center of gravity.
Joint Stress: when constantly altering friction levels she is adding extra stress on her joints, especially when performing high-speed movement or sudden changes in direction. This can lead to joint pain, inflammation or even long-term joint damage if she does not look after herself properly.
Tendon and Ligament Strain: The sudden acceleration or deceleration caused by friction manipulation can put a strain on tendons and ligaments. This can result in sprains, strains, or even tears if the forces applied exceed the body's limits. Motion Sickness and fainting: the movement is not something that she is used to. When she overuses her control she tends to get spouts of motion sickness, that tend to make her vomit a sparkling array similar to how her powers seem to be active.
(if applicable) cerberus corp…
She auditioned, it was no easy fate but she will filled with determination. There was one hero who saved her, one who showed her kindness and a smile she will never forget. Something about that encounter always stuck with her. It was her drive, a motivation something that drove her more to pushing her dream into being a reality. She wants to be a part of the change of the world, do something that is greater than herself. Cerberus Corp is a place that can offer that...so she was going to do everything that she can. It might have taken a few tries but...there is something about her powers that has the potential to be more than just a simple slip and slide.
codename…
Amontons as in famous french scientist, inventor and physicist, Guillamue Amontons who pioneered the laws of friction! Please just tell Sabryna that you know before she gets out her powerpoint to start explaining it all to you.
003. EXTRA
⛸️ She is always utterly messy, it has just been the way that she always has been. Some people might even call her a hoarder but that is not the case, Sabryna just does not like being wasteful with her stuff. Her family grew up being pretty tight with money, so judge her if you want or don't.
⛸️Family situation, basically a tight knit small family with a little sister, a supportive mother and strained relationship with her father, who is a cop, he is someone who doesn't believe the world needs saving my fancy heroes in costumes that the law should stay in the hands of the law. Does not support his daughter at her, still communicate but they don't really talk about work otherwise a lot of arguments would occur.
⛸️Misses the closeness of her family. Like board game nights. As much as an introvert she can be at times, she loves the company of her friends...maybe her found family in New York.
⛸️Use to compete as a Figure Skater, helped her with her scholarship, she was a women in Stem and studied Engineering, something that her father encouraged her with since she was a little girl.
⛸️More to come....

City of Glass
Fandom: Star Wars the Bad Batch
Summary: Rex receives word from a Trooper that he hasn't heard from since Order 66. Through their meeting, Rex discovers more allies willing to help in his fight for all Clones
Characters: Captain Rex, OG Clone Characters, OG Characters.
Warnings: None, lots of fluff.
Word Count:3,212 Words.
A/N: I'd love to hear your thoughts and feedback. But please, do enjoy.
The forest world of Dotune, located in the mid-rim, is not a world that Rex is well acquainted with. During the war, Dotune had been an ally to the Republic, one of many worlds actively playing a part in the war. The more populated areas are surrounded by deep forests and high mountains, while the western areas stretch out into vast deserts and oceans. There's still visible damage left behind from the fighting.
Rex has read the reports, during the last two months of the war, Dotune and many of the nearby planets in the system had fallen to a Sepreratist stronghold intent on cutting off a series of trade routes that the planets supply. Many citizens had taken up arms to rid their worlds of the CIS invasion forces, but it hadn't been long until Republic interference had been requested.
In response to this crisis, the Jedi Council dispatched the 188th Ballistics Corps led by Kage Jedi Master, Kheo Roouse. Rex had met General Roouse during the last few months of the war. When the 188th had been dispatched as reinforcements for the 212th and 501st. CC-1825, Commander Ty and his men had proven effective alongside the 501st which brought Rex to stay in touch with Ty while the war went on.
But since Order 66, Ty and the rest of his squad had maintained radio silence until Rex had received word from Ty telling him to come to Dotune. Rex knew it was safe since the Empire hasn't made a move to return to Dotune yet, but that’s likely not long to last. The coordinates that Rex was given took him to the far outskirts of the capital city of Ero. When his ship landed he was immediately greeted by a small group of heavily armed civilians, many of them not looking too happy to see him.
Most are speaking what sounds like a mixture of Hutteese and Ryl, with very little basic. To ease the tension, Rex surrenders his blaster to a yellow, Twi’lek woman who tries to defuse the tension.“Captain Rex,” She addresses him. “I’m Elphine Elek. Sorry about the caution, but we greatly appreciate your cooperation.”
Rex shrugs loosely. “In times like these, I suppose it’s the new norm.”
“Especially when clones are involved.” A man amongst the group replies but shrinks back when Elphine glares at him coldly.
“If you’ll follow me.” Elphine motions for Rex to follow the group back to the capital city. The dawn is slowly approaching, from this distance Rex can just make out the silhouette of the city. A city of glass.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Eros
The days of work start well before the dawn on Dotune and the capital is no exception to this fact. Miners and artisans brace the chill hours before sunrise to sharpen their tools and stoke the furnaces of their shops. Dotune is best known for its glasswork next to its Vintrium mines, one of the few collections of planets in the mid-rim to have and refine this material let alone use it as a component in their glasswork items. Items that earned the city the name, the city of glass, and after generations of patience and practice, the results are truly breathtaking. Something that the men of the 188th discovered rather quickly.
Clapback, Chert, and Ozzie, Ty’s loyal squad mates, good men, good soldiers, now turned deserters, out of uniform and working with Imperial conspirators. Quite the change of pace from the trench fighting.
“Gaius, the rest of the Vintrium is loaded up.” Clapback dusts his hands off when placing the last crate inside the cargo shuttle with Ozzie. The task hadn't taken long and the two were more than happy to help where they can.
“Thank you both so much!” The older gentleman says after examining the pair's good work. “Stuff definitely looks better all packed up.”
Ozzie looks back, hands on his hips, looking proud of the well-done job. “Sure does.” He turns his head back to Gaius. “Let us know how the sale goes.”
Ozzie and Clap say their farewells before making their way back to the city square to their next destination. The central square houses not only the city hall building but a variety of shops and homes. Both of which the 188th had fought long and hard to defend from the Separatists not too long ago and sadly helped marshal once the Republic fell.
Kamino had taken every measure to ensure the soldiers of the Republic had all the skills they needed to fight in a war and that training has saved Ty and his men's lives more times than any of them could count. But after settling on Dotune after the Republic fall and getting to see the people of the world create such wonderful things, Ty and his men all knew that they needed to acquire new skills beyond their lifelong training. So they came ready and anxious to learn.
Learning Dotune's livelihood of glasswork proved to be an interesting challenge for the soldiers, but a skill, like many that they picked up quickly.
A few puffs of compressed air will help the glass cool only slightly which will allow for adornments to be added. “Alright,” One worker says. “I think we’re ready for the powder.” Chert retrieves a handful of red-colored powder and waits for further instructions. He’d have to be quick and careful with adding the powder, too much will ruin the effect of the glass, and too little will lead to the cause to start from scratch again. But Chert’s had good mentors and knows how to proceed. Slowly and carefully the red is added, encasing the glass in a vibrant shimmer of color.
“Gorgeous.” A female worker looks at the piece in awe. Chert didn’t mind showing pride in his good work.
The praise from the workers is cut short when Chert sees his brothers on approach. “You Fellas got this from here?” Something's up, hopefully, good news. Rex should be arriving soon.
The workers all nod. “Not a problem, Chert. Great work. Thanks for your help.” The trooper nods letting another worker take over his position near the furnace allowing him to join the rest of his squad.
“Project looks like it’s coming along nicely,” Clapback says based on the brief look he got.
“Bit more work to do.” Chert replies, whipping the sweat from his forehead still feeling the heat from the furnace. “What’s the word?”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s an involuntary tic. One that Ty has only recently developed. He’ll be lost in thought, ideas pulling his mind lightyears away while his body remains behind. His far-off stare is locked in focus while his thumb runs against the scar on his lower lip, he becomes completely unaware of the world around him. He’s not even looking at the information on his datapad, only the void and hearing silence.
“Huh?” His head snaps to attention to the voice talking to him, a lovely voice that he never wants to miss. “Sorry, what did you say?” He looks up at the orange skin Twi’lek woman standing before him, her sharp eyebrow raised.
The face that goes with the voice smiles sweetly before repeating her unheard words. “My, we certainly are focused today.” She giggles. “I said, Elphine and her scouts are escorting your Captain back here.”
Ty’s face lights up. “I hope your sister keeps everyone in line with him.”
“Can you blame them for still being cautious around clones, especially after everything that's happened? You just need to be patient.” I’dae takes out an assortment of small tools out of her bag.
Ty sighs remembering to keep his patience with the situation. It had taken him and the others time to regain the trust of the populists of Dotune. Trusting clone outsiders is going to take time as well. “I know, I’m sorry.” He groans, running his hands down his face in frustration. “I don’t have your level of patience.”
I’dae smirks, not taking her eyes off her tools. “Did your cloners forget to program that into you?” Her hands immediately cover her mouth, eyes go bug-eyed in shock at what she had just said. Ty stares at her with the same wide-eyed disbelief of what she had just said. The silence between them lingers for a long while until Ty breaks it with his laughter. “You are horrible.” I’dae buries her face in her hands.
Ty, still laughing, clutches his sides. “I’m sorry…It’s just...you…” He can’t even finish the sentence due to his laughter.
I’dae stares at him blankly, trying hard not to smile. “I hope you get eaten by a rancor.” A fair amount of laughter later, Ty adjusts himself. “You’ve been on leave too long, Commander.” She teases him. “Civilian life is making you giddy.”
Ty shrugs. “Changing career paths takes an adjustment period.”
“Guess so. From what you’ve told me about this Captain Rex, he sounds like quite the soldier.” I’dae muses, leaning herself against the edge of the holo table, closer to Ty in order to see what he’s reading on his data pad.
“He is” He hands the device to her. “More Imperial reports. More clones turning up dead or missing.”
I’daes face saddens when she sees the sorrow blooming in Ty’s eyes. To give what comfort she can I’dae takes her friend's hand in hers. Ty squeezes it firmly, showing gratitude for her comfort. “We’re going to help them, Ty. As many as we can.” Ty leans in closer to I’dae
His stomach drops. “I’dae-” Before the Commander can finish his words the pair are interrupted by the deep-toned chirps of a familiar astomech droid. Ty breathes out heavily, his lips pursed. “What is it, Zeek?” The dark grey and purple colored droid answers in another assortment of beeps and whirls. Ty turns back to I’dae with a grin. “He’s here.”
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rex had not expected to see so many members of the 188th alive and out of the hands of the Empire. And just like him, out of uniform passing for civilians rather than soldiers. Clapback still has the sides of his hair shaved, but has grown the rest of his hair out and tied it back.
The last time Rex had spoken to Chert he was attempting to grow his hair out, judging by the state of it now he definitely had not stuck with the attempt for long. Ozzie’s crew cut has grown a few inches. Ty has always been a clone of consistency, especially when it comes to his physical appearance. Standard military haircut for all troopers, no visible tattoos on his face, the scar on his lower lip is new, what’s the story behind that one? Rex almost forgot how young they are compared to him. Ty and the others had only done a year and a half of fighting, but they have that same fighting spirit that same honorable heart, the same as the rest. And it was so good to see them.
“Quite a setup you’ve got here,” Rex says, admiring the domicile that the boys had made their own.
Ozzie hands Rex a drink once he joins him and Ty on the veranda of their home, overlooking the city as the dawn begins to rise. People leave their homes to begin their days of work. All ready to contribute to the community. “Better than barracks.” They can’t argue with that fact. “Never had my own room before.”
Clap kicks up his feet, taking a seat close to the balcony. “Definitely a plus of not having to hear Ty snore.”
The men's laughter is cut off when another joins them. “You boys had to listen to that all the time? Oh, you poor things.” I’dae smirks then look at Rex with intrigue.
Ty is quick to make the introductions. “Rex, this is I’dae Elek. Quite the archeologist and the daughter of the genius who removed our inhibitor chips.” The commander points to the surgical scar on his right temple. Rex had noticed it on Ty and the boys the moment he saw each of them. It’s a relief to see and know that more clones are finding the root of their unnatural loyalty toward the Empire. More of them are becoming aware that they are being used and manipulated.
Clapback raises his glass. “She’s sensational.”
For Rex, it’s nice to see some of his brothers settled and at peace in their environment. They seem to have integrated nicely into the community, content with themselves. It’s something that Rex wants for all of his brothers and he knows Ty and the others are ready to help achieve that same want.
“Pleasure to me you, Captain.” I’dae turns to Ty. “I just came by to tell you that the Tribunal is meeting this evening, can we expect you all to be there?”
“Tribunal?” Rex asks.
“They’re the governing body of Dotune. They want to speak with us about the planet's involvement in moving forward with our goals.”
“I have a lot of questions myself,” Rex says, putting the subject off about more touchy details for longer than intended.
It’s from his tone that Ty can tell that Rex wants to be serious for a moment. The time for pleasantries is over, for the time being, it’s time to discuss why Rex is here on Dotune per Ty’s request. “Can you give us a minute?” Ty asks I’dae politely. She smiles before excusing herself from the balcony. “Let’s go for a walk. Lots to talk about still.”
------------------------------------------------------------------------
It wasn't hard for Rex to understand why his brothers had settled on Dotune. The populists have welcomed them with open arms not just from gratitude for defending their world but for their natures as good men.
“Once the effect of the chip started wearing off, the boys and I knew we had to get out.”
“So you came back here, to Dotune?”
Ty nods, looking around the city streets. “We connected with a lot of people here. The first place that felt like home aside from Kamino.” A few passersby wave at the pair, even addressing Ty by name. It was clear to Rex that Dotune had left an impression on his younger brother. “Coming back wasn't easy, not after what we had done, not after who we had hurt.”
Rex hesitates for a moment, wanting to word his next question carefully, knowing that the answer wouldn't be pleasant. “And General Roouse?”
The Commander stops in his tracks. It had been a question that Rex had been hesitant to ask. Imperial intelligence had Roouse listed as K.I.A on Dotune. But Rex knows that listings such as those can be forged. Ty’s voice is softer when he spoke, it's full of guilt and pain. “Clap, Chert, Ozzie, and I received the order…and… we executed it.”
Rex rests his hand atop his brother's shoulder in an attempt to ease his distress. “It’s not your fault, Ty. The order wasn't easy to refuse.”
The soldier almost like as though he doesn't fully believe that. Dosnet believes that he couldn't have stopped himself. “The boys and I have been monitoring Imperial Radio chatter. We’ve been hearing that more and more clones are disobeying imperial orders. So I sent out messages to any troopers that had fallen off the Empire's radar. I know that you had been listed as killed in action, but I wanted to be sure that was the case.”
Clones disappearing without a tracer has Rex more than concerned and if the Empire had anything to do with those disappearances then that’s more cause for concern. “Smart move.”
The Commander hangs his head not looking very pleased with himself, unsure if his efforts have been enough. “Maybe. I just wish that more had responded.” The evening chimes signal the later hours, the city lights spring to life. “Tribuinal’s meeting. Definitely don’t want to miss this.” Ty grins, putting his guilt and pain away just for the moment.
The Tribunal of Dotune is comprised of several elected representatives with one primary at the head of the Tribunal. A human woman named Eyra Esse had acted as Dotunes senator previously along with her husband but had taken an early retirement once the Empire had taken over. Rex had seen Esse’s speeches on the holonet, she was quite the public speaker during the war. There’s a hint of grey in her brown hair, distinctive tattoos cover her face and hands, indicators of her culture no doubt. Her bright yellow eyes are striking, she can look anywhere and instantly capture the attention of anyone.
“Dotune has already elected a new representative. He’ll be keeping his eye on things in the Senate. The people of Dotune had come to an agreement, Captain. We are wanting to assist with your endeavors. The Clones of the Republic have done more than enough to ensure the security of the galaxy. It is an atrocity that you and your kin have been disregarded so carelessly. We wish to help.”
Rex is utterly speechless. He and his small unit have been stretched so thin, with barely enough resources as it is. But to have the backing of an entire planet now, that changes things drastically. Rex almost can’t believe it, but Ty and the others quickly reassure him. “I don't know how to thank you.”
Eyra shakes her head. “There is no need for thanks, Captain. Just tell us what needs doing.”
------------------------------------------------------------------------
The negotiations were short. Rex and the tribunal had come up with a system in which the clones will be able to better operate, with Dotune providing food, resources, and intelligence and acting as a waypoint for the soldiers to settle when needed. They all knew that great caution would need to be taken from this point on. But the end result of their goal will be very much worth the risk.
It was then that the Tribunal said their goodbyes for the evening and Rex began to make ready to leave.
“You’re more than welcome to stay for the night, Rex.” Ty once again makes the offer to the Captain, and once again he politely declines.
“Your hospitality has been more than enough for me. I need to report back to the others, and tell them the good news.” Ty and the others were sad to see their brother leave so soon, but all knew that it wouldn't be long until they’d be working side by side once again. “Here’s to a better future, for all our brothers.”
Ty chuckles, confidence gleaming in his eyes. “We’re more than ready for the fight, Captain.”
Ty, Chert, Ozzie, and Clapback watch Rex’s Y-Wing ascend and disappear into the night sky leaving behind the city of glass that proves its resolve to not be shattered so quickly by the Empire.

The Underminer...
So...I really didn’t like anything about Incredibles 2 except for the gorgeous animation. So have a thing for my RP verse for Violet (also includes a self-insert but the info for her part in that verse is on the verse page:
This incident in Municiburg has brought into sharp relief the flaws of the Superhero Relocation Act, and Municiburg isn't the only city that found itself under attack. And despite the risks, Supers young and old have risen to the occasion to protect their fellows. It's been a struggle for those 'classic heroes', who have been scared out of keeping in shape. I propose that both the Superhero Relocation Act and the laws against non-government funding in America be abolished. Trinity Corporation has the funds to manage damages. If it makes you feel better, you can make the law require supers to register with my office, but this has gone on long enough.
A woman had come to the Parr family's motel room a few days after the Island, and introduced herself as Nakira Taisho, the owner of Trinity Corp and new manager for Superheroes in America. Violet and Dash listened in as their parents talked with the woman.
"It's an honour that you'd come talk to us yourself, Ms Taisho," their mother said lightly and Nakira made a sound.
"Please, call me Nakira. It's going to take a bit of time for the politicians to get things finalized, but I'm trying to get with as many Supers as I can before the announcements," she told them. "And I do believe your children should be present, since they're already listening in." Violet and Dash stepped into the room. "This pertains to the two of you as well, since you'll be getting the choice to follow in your parents' footsteps when you're old enough."
"Really!?" Dash gasped. "Sweet!"
"So, they're changing the laws…?" Violet asked, sitting across from her mom.
Three months passed; Dash was finally able to slow up enough to join the track team. At the track meet, Tony finally talked to Violet and asked her out. She'd been learning more about her powers, and the laws against Superheroes were abolished just as Nakira had promised. So, they were all wearing their super suits under their street clothes.
Violet laughed with her family as they left the Track Meet with Dash sitting on her father's shoulders with his second-place trophy. Jack-Jack was in a carrier strapped to her mother's back. The ground rumbled and the family of heroes looked at each other before running in different directions to change clothes. As they met back up with their masks firmly in place, a giant drill broke through the pavement. A microphone screeched above them as Dash darted around to clear civilians.
"I am the Underminer! I am always beneath you, but nothing is beneath me! I hereby declare war on peace and happiness!" a small man called over the speakers. Violet rolled her eyes and ran for the drill. She saw her father get catapulted to the top of the drill.
"Dash! Help Mom with the civilians!" she called to her brother, focusing to create a sort of stair case with her power to get her to the top of the drill with her father. She landed beside him right as the drill started to go back underground. "I've got you, Dad," she assured him, creating a force field around them so her father could pry his way into the drill without getting hit by debris.
He made a hole in the roof of the drill just as the device stopped moving. They dropped into the interior of the drill and the small villain laughed maniacally, holding a detonator. Violet made a slashing motion with her hand, sending a field to knock the device from his hand. She then created a field around the man to prevent him from retrieving the detonator. Her father gingerly picked up the device as they were joined by the rest of the family.
"We need to disable the explosives," Elastigirl commented as she went to the controls. The Underminer shouted in rage and started trying to force his way out of Violet's field. She winced, putting all of her focus into it. He flipped a switch on his metal arm and it started hitting the field in rapid strikes. Just as her mother gave the all clear, she dropped to her knees, losing the dome confining the villain.
"Vi?" Dash gasped, rushing to her.
"I'm fine…worry about the bad guy," she told him, catching her breath. Dash nodded and ran to block the main exit. Her father was standing in front of another escape route. The Underminer went for the main exit, clearly aiming for the lesser threat. The family shifted positions as Violet recovered her bearings. She went invisible and got behind the villain while her parents moved to surround him. She thought of something, remembering his jack-hammer tactic a moment ago.
She created a small field around his head, cutting off his air. He gasped and struggled for a moment before activating the mechanism on his arm to try and bust the field. Right when he went to attack her force field, she released it, causing him to punch himself with the device. He made a noise and fell unconscious.
"Nice one, Vi," her father praised, breaking off some pipe and twisting it around the villain before they all exited the drill.

Death breathing
This post is a follow up of my earlier post describing my oc, Izanami Hikari. I wanted to post a little more information that I put together for her breathing style. Coming up with each death breathing form and describing them was really fun, and I hope you enjoy it!
Word count: 2,290
Death Breathing Definition:
Death breathing, the derivative of breath of hell (Hellfire breathing). While most breathing styles don’t have any negative lasting effects on the user, death breathing does, and can sometimes be life threatening. The more energy used for the form, the more harmful they become. That’s why death breathing like the breath of hell is frowned upon and forbidden. There is one family lineage that has kept this breathing technique secret for generations, the Hikari family. The location of the family is unknown. Strengths and limits to these breathing techniques are also unknown, there is no known record of this breathing style written down in any manuals.
FormsFirst form: Slow kill
Second form: Death song
Third form: Life or death
Fourth form: Blessing from hell
Fifth form: Death bed of lillies
Sixth form: Last breath
Seventh form: Dying wish
Eighth form: Amputate
Ninth form: Murder the dead
Tenth form: Reincarnation
Eleventh form: Raise the dead Breathing from explanations
First form: Slow killThis breathing technique is meant to be a slow time consuming technique. Due to this technique's slow nature, swordsmen use it in situations to buy time. by using the least amount of energy possible, but still inflicting damage that constantly causes the opponent to regenerate. For example, simple slashes or stabbing motions. This technique requires close combat and a massive amount of stamina and precision. This form is also meant to slowly build up power and strength. Each attack gradually becoming more damaging, the power is backed up by the swordsman's speed. This technique can last up until the swordsmen has reached their limit.
Second form: Death songDeath song is a wide range move that is meant to be used at long distances not visible to the enemy. Using total concentration breathing and focusing all strength to the vocal cords, creates the illusion of multiple voices coming from all directions at different sound levels. This form is mainly used to confuse the opponent of the swordsman's location. It can also be used to mimic one's voice, making this a great way to confuse the enemy and lead them astray. This technique does no physical damage to the enemy, and depends on the swordsman skills of total concentration breathing.
Third form: Life or death Life or death includes rapid movements of the sword, slashing at angles rather than straight up and down or side to side. This technique is also paired with rapid movement from the legs, making it easy to create multiple slash wounds all along the enemy from different angles at high speeds. Making this a close combat strategy. Without using total concentration breathing, this technique would not be as effective and can be dangerous if the swordsman isn’t probably trained in total concentration breathing.
Fourth form: blessing from hellSimilar to Death song, Blessing from hell is mainly used as a distraction. The swordsmen creates an opaque black fog that stretches about fifty yards in length that reaches about the height of a fully grown tree (~ 80 feet). This technique is similar to the Mist breathing form called Sea of Clouds and Haze. However, this black fog has a special feature. Just how it obscures the enemies vision, it also makes their other senses go “numb”, cutting off their sense of smell, touch, hearing, etc. Yet it’s not just the enemy that is targeted by this fog, but everyone other than the swordsmen, either by being directly in or touching the fog. So this style is not recommended to be performed around other corps members or civilians.
Fifth form: death bed of lilliesDeath bed of lillies is not one of the original breathing forms of death breathing. But was recently created by one of the current family members of the holders of the Death breathing’s secret codex. The concept of this form is very similar to the method of insect breathing, which is using poison. But, like how in insect breathing the sword is covered in poison, this move secrets a poison like substance from the sword into the air surrounding the swordwielder. And unlike the position created for insect breathing, this position doesn’t have a high concentration of wisteria. The poison temporarily stops regeneration and physically weakens the demon, buying time for a killing blow. However for this technique to fully work, the sword welder has to be within close range with the demon for it to inhale the airborne poison. (see weapon modifications & others to learn more)
Sixth form: last breathLast breath is focused on the pure strength and agility of the swordsmen. One wrong move during this form can mark the end of the swordwielder. Total concentration breathing needs to be mastered to be able to produce this form, any lack of experience can result in asphyxiation and death. This move targets the enemies throat, lungs, and head. Backed up with multiple slashes and thrusting of the blade to pierce and slice the enemy. If done correctly the finishing move or position for this form would be a slash to the neck.
Seventh form: dying wishThis form requires the welder to use their weapon as though it was a spear or a javelin. Speed and acceleration is the main key for this move to be effective, anything blocking the path or force like wind or rain will significantly weaken the blow. The welder throws their weapon with an enormous amount of force, at an angle like a spear so that it arches into the sky then slowly aims down towards the ground, like a shooting star. Although this technique produces a very damaging blow, there are a few risks. The sword may be shattered in the process or chipped, and there is a high possibility of missing the target.
Eighth form: Amputate Amputate is a great form when fighting in a group. Because Amputate essentially distracts the demon with the welders multiple slices to their limbs to keep them in one place, but not going for the neck. Making it easier for other demon slayers to go in for the kill. The swordsmen need to give enough room for another demon slayer to join in and only go for the head. The main target is the limbs, as stated earlier, cutting and slicing them into multiple different pieces as possible to make them focus only on regenerating.
Ninth form: Murder the deadMuch like the fifth form, Murder the dead has a mechanical element to it involving the welders weapon. Note: each death breather in the Hikari family typically used a standard Nichirin sword. Any death breather that would use this form would have to have their sword forged with certain modifications that would allow the welder to achieve this form. It also needs an attachment for the weapon to be capable of this move. This technique can be used for both close and long distance combat. (see weapon modifications to learn more)
Tenth form: ReincarnationReincarnation is one of the first breathing forms that was created for death breathing, it is also one of the most dangerous forms to perform. Because this requires most of the welder's energy to be focused on healing their wounds, this essentially is a demonic ability that can use the blood of the user to “stitch” or heal major wounds that are bleeding profusely. If the wound produces little blood then that wound will not be targeted by this method. Major arteries or vital organs like the brain or heart are the main priority of this form, and is basically a saving move to prevent death. Reincarnation can be used on others, but is not recommended. When used on someone else it can induce an enormous amount of pain and can be more damaging if done wrong, even fatal. It can also be harmful for the person performing Reincarnation on someone else too. Reincarnation if not already clear is not an attack.
Eleventh form: Raise the deadThe most hated and prohibited form out of death breathing is Raise the dead. By far the most eery and unsettling out of all the forms is this one. For its purpose and methods are seen as unethical and horrifying by human standards. Blood is also another component of this breathing style. The swordsmen must use their blood to draw out a symbol on the ground; the symbol contains the symbol of the Hikari family with a circled border. The blood must be one from a descendant of the Hikari. The swordsmen enters the circle and kneels on the ground while piercing the tip of the sword deep into the ground. A chant is said that has been passed down from generation to generation. While doing so the demon slayer mark is manifested. Once the chant is finished, much like in the name the dead raise. Any corpse either human or animal, is controlled now by the demon slayer within the circle. The demon slayer has full control over the corpses body movements and functions, they are even able to see through the eyes of the corpses. This is because if they leave the circle the ability loses all effect and the bodies drop to the ground. If the person within the circle doesn’t fully concentrate on their chant, it can lead to death. Raise the dead is a demonic ability that has no written explanation in any of the death breathing codexes. The first person to use the form in the Hikari family said that everyone in the family possessed the ability to create the eleventh form, but at a price. Each time the form is executed their lifespan is shortened. Some who used this form said they would hear voices and see things that weren’t there.
Weapon modifications
Murder the dead: The sword modification to unlock the ninth form relies mostly on the sword's handguard. By turning the handguard the sword blade becomes segmented like a sword whip. The more times that the handguard is turned, more segments will be made. The total number of segments used for this modification ranges from 15 - 20 segments, with the smaller and closer segments being near the tip of the blade. Once the desired amount of segments is reached the guard is lifted slightly to be held in place, when that is done the smaller segments closer to the tip of the blade curve, and form into the shape of a scythe. Depending on the amount of segments that were selected the size and shape of the scythe blade can vary. Once the sword is locked into this position as an attachment it connects to the handle of the sword that can extend into a staff. The staff can be extended to multiple lengths, the shortest being roughly one foot and the longest being six feet. Due to these weapon modifications this is great for both defensive and offensive moves. For example, it can be spun like a bo staff at very high speeds that can act as a shield for oncoming attacks.
Death bed of lilies: This modification is only to the hilt and guard. At the base of the hilt there is a butt plate. The butt plate is able to rotate around a pin that shows an opening within the sword hilt. This small tube is where the poison is stored, this small tube can contain around about eighty mL of poison. The poison is usually injected with a small needle. Near the end of the tube where the hilt meets the guard, there are smaller and thinner lines of tubbing that connect and run through the guard. The edges of the sword guard are very porous, making it easier for the poison to be released in the air. To have a small amount of poison to be run through the guard, there is a special button or trigger on the hilt of the sword. One of the ornaments or shapes along the sword hilt are a secret button. Once pressed a specific amount of poison is let through the smaller tubes up to the guard. To scatter this poisonous substance through air the sword must be violently moved or shaken.
Poison
The poison that is used for the Fifth form. This position is made up of a ratio of three main substances; scarlet crimson ore shavings, scarlet crimson iron sand powder, and wisteria flowers. However there is a small amount of spider lily petals and lotus flowers, but they aren't harmful to demons. Wisteria flowers are a good repellent for demons, a certain amount of it can hinder their abilities like regeneration, movement, etc. yet for this position the amount of wisteria used is actually very little. The main ingredients are the scarlet crimson ore shavings and scarlet crimson iron sand powder. These two things are also what make up Nichirin weapons. They absorb a significant amount of sunlight within just one year, making them a great additive to this position. Both are ground up into a fine powder then mixed in with the wisteria. How the wisteria is prepared and added is unknown. Once all three of those ingredients are combined, the base of the poison is liquid fusion of spider lily petals and lotus flower. The reason why this form is called Death bed of lilies is due to the hallucinations and euphoria that comes from the lotus, normally a demon wouldn’t be affected but due to the good amount of wisteria in the poison the demons react to it. The hallucinate makes the victim see a field of spider lilies, it even gives the illusion of the flowers scent. The mechanics as well as the formula for this poison are only known by the Hikari family.
I know that was a lot to take in and read, but It's all still a work in progress and I might end up changing a few things here and there throughout my story. If you have any questions about any of the breathing forms and sword modifications please feel free to ask, and I'll try to answer as best as I can.

[ad_1] Oil futures dropped Sunday evening as markets noticed a relaxed opening following Israel’s launch of a floor offensive in Gaza that drew implied threats from Iran amid market fears of a wider battle that might disrupt international crude provides. Oil declined as Israel “appears to be approaching the scenario with warning, which has introduced a way of aid that the worst-case eventualities might not materialize,” mentioned Stephen Innes, managing associate at SPI Asset Administration, in a observe. Innes, nonetheless, mentioned traders ought to keep in mind “that is prone to be an extended, drawn-out affair with many false dawns.” West Texas Intermediate crude for December supply CL00, -1.38% CL.1, -1.38% CLZ23, -1.38% fell 93 cents, or 1%, to $84.61 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Change on Sunday evening. December Brent crude BRNZ23, -1.14%, the worldwide benchmark, was off $1, or 1.1%, at $89.48 a barrel on ICE Futures Europe, dipping again under the $90-a-barrel threshold. Oil futures jumped practically 3% on Friday, however suffered weekly declines, eroding the modest danger premium priced into the market. Learn: 4 reasons why oil prices have only seen a modest Middle East risk premium Israeli solders had moved a minimum of two miles deep into the Gaza Strip as of Sunday, the Wall Street Journal reported, after starting a delayed floor incursion into the enclave geared toward routing Hamas following its Oct, 7 assault on southern Israel that left greater than 1,400 useless and noticed greater than 200 Israelis taken hostage. A sustained bombardment of the densely populated Gaza Strip by Israel has resulted in additional than 8,000 casualties, based on Palestinian authorities. Israel has been below strain by the U.S. and others to attenuate civilian casualties. U.S. stock-index futures ticked larger, with S&P 500 futures ES00, +0.36% up 0.3%, whereas futures on the Dow Jones Industrial Common YM00, +0.26% added 68 factors, or 0.2%. The most important fear amongst traders is a battle that sees Iran change into extra immediately concerned. Iranian crude exports have rebounded from lows seen after the Trump administration withdrew the U.S. from a nuclear accord with Tehran and reimposed sanctions in 2018. A renewed crackdown on Iran might take as much as 1 million barrels a day of crude off the market, whereas a spiraling battle might see Tehran threaten transportation chokepoints, significantly the Strait of Hormuz, or in any other case assault infrastructure within the area, whereas driving up a concern premium. Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi, in a put up on X written in English, mentioned Saturday that Israel had “crossed the pink strains, which can power everybody to take motion.” U.S. warplanes on Friday struck two places in jap Syria, which the Pentagon mentioned had been linked to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps, following a string of assaults on U.S. air bases within the area that began final week. U.S. shares are poised to ebook one other spherical of month-to-month losses as October attracts to an finish, although strain has been attributed largely to a surge in Treasury yields. The S&P 500 SPX final week joined the Nasdaq Composite COMP in correction territory, whereas the Dow DJIA is down greater than 2% 12 months thus far. The rise in yields, which transfer reverse worth, has come as U.S. authorities debt has failed to draw its traditional haven-related shopping for amid rising Mideast tensions. Esprit de Corps [Challenging: Success] - Come on, this is *not* the way real police solve crimes. The *real* police are some twenty kilometres away, sitting in an armoured motor carriage.
Mack Torson - "Come on, Chester, tell the story again." A bald man turns toward a lean man and pats him on the back.
Chester McLaine - "Again? Man, I tell that one at least once a month. It's not that interesting," Chester replies.
Mack Torson - "The *fuck* it is," the bald man replies. "And these guys haven't heard it." He motions to the civilian sitting in the back seat. "You see, Chester here," he pokes his finger at the lean man. "Chester *faked his own death* once!"
Civilian - "Gosh, why?" One civilian looks on, amazed. The bald man bellows a reply:
Mack Torson - "A very fuckin' dangerous case, ain't that right, Chester? They almost got you that time."
Chester McLaine - "Yeah, sure came close," Chester mutters in return, then turns to the rapt listener. "Alright, so I was tailing this guy called 'Francis the Shoe'..." The inside of the motor carriage is thick with cigarette smoke. Outside, it starts to rain...
End ID.]
I love how often Esprit de Corps checks are like “oh no your colleagues are precisely that stupid”. I’ve never seen anyone upload this check, actually.

Mr. Sigurdson: Madam Speaker, that is the true spirit of being an Albertan, and I believe this motion speaks to that.
