Wrote a short BroDave Stridercest fic (unrelated to the longer one I'm working on that I've posted snippets of on here,) because once I did the math for the longer one, I realized that Dave definitely tried weed before Bro, and I needed to write Dave sitting Bro down and making him try it. It couldn't happen within the longer WIP because too many reasons, or else I would've just put this in with that mess. So the only thing in common is the fact they're both trans men half-brothers (non-Sburb AU) that are 10 years apart. Anyways:

I have TWO where I've written the ONLY fanfics for the pairing. (Also, just fair warning, these are Adult Only fics lol.)

1: Mass Effect - Commander Shepard (Nonbinary)/Mako (the vehicle used in Mass Effect). Shepard's gambling problem runs their budget dry and they have to get creative to fundraise for more supplies. Shepard decides to cam it up since they're a famous hero now.

2: Homestuck - Dirk Strider/Dammek ('Antler Troll' before he was named). Shipped solely for the fact that they both wear sunglasses, soon after Dammek's appearance (only his appearance) was announced. He wasn't even named, so that was something I had to work around, along with giving him a blank slate personality. Dream bubbles make anything possible.

This was written after I already pulled notes for my lightning fast Antler Troll cosplay 1 hour after the announcement was made where he was shown. I love having a claim to fame.

Honourable mention: I was the second person to write Borderlands - Claptrap/Reader, but since then, the tag has exploded to a whopping 6 works. You'd think there would be more.

haphazard assortment of thoughts on the unwanted guest:

firstly, it really does have to be said—crazy good, probably my favourite of all the tlt short pieces, and i say that as someone who lost my mind over as yet unsent for like a week. excellent conceit and excellent execution, just a really gorgeous piece of writing. the play format of course reminds me of what abigail says to harrow in htn—that the river bubble is a ‘play [she’s] directing’—the inside of one’s head as a stage in which other actors can intervene & whereby mileage can be gotten out of Symbolism as immediately “real,” tangible presences that the kind of realist baggage that a more quotidian prose form would usher in would probably falter in accomplishing. it’s a lot!! i think even if i wasn’t already a tazmuir writing style defender (contra the insistence that she’s yknow homestuck fanfiction serial numbers filed off hack) then this would have had me floored anyway. 

the play format also works in the way that muir’s general dexterity in form and willingness to really make use of craft as a technical space where discourse can be generated always works—i’m talking about the ‘fanfictiony’ voice in gtn which manages to say something both about fanfiction and about the text itself, the use of the dramatis personae as a space where atmosphere can be established and plot points hinted towards (thus blurring the lines between what is and is not diegesis), the drastic shifts in style between different close thirds, the shifting from third- to second- to epistolary first-person, the use of poetry both diegetic and not (the noniad, the epigraph poems…), the mimicry of the ‘voice’ of the king james bible in the nona epilogue—she never stays in one place for too long and she never seems to stick to one central style or form, and it really works in her favour. insofar as tlt as a whole is a very ‘patchwork’ kind of work, building itself up from its big big index of references and intertexts and memes with hugely variant levels of ‘prestige’ or legitimacy attached to them, the ‘patchwork’ use of form really works in muir’s favour. however i am also fuming because i was right in the middle of writing a tlt fic which jumps into a play format two-thirds of the way through and now my idea doesn’t look ORIGINAL but ANYWAY—

& i really do need to flag my good friend vee’s mercy/augustine fic, which makes use of a similar conceit and pulls it off masterfully—i am deeply jealous of vee’s talent and i think the unwanted guest makes this piece (from 2021!) shine even more, if anything.

i am DYING to see where muir is going with the use of hamlet, of all things—dulcie quoting it to palamedes immediately catapulted my mind back to abigail’s reference to ‘that undiscovered country’ in htn. obviously muir likes to drop contemporary (or contemporarily canonical) references and turns of phrase all over the place, but the attention drawn to the quote as diegetically referential (“I like that. Is it from something?” / “Yes. It’s complicated.”) has me wondering about a) the survival of ‘pre-res’ literatures ~over the river and like WHY and b) what a thematic interlocking of tlt and hamlet can do, here…….real aveheads remember cytherea ophelia theory where i tried to use ophelia as a point of reference for teasing out some arguments about cytherea and death and aesthetics and white femininity and whatnot. all of which is to say i need to sit with this hamlet reading a lot more but i love it, i am so here for it.

of course ‘kissing or feeding, we can’t be sure’ calls to mind ‘how meat loves meat,’ alecto biting harrow’s mouth by way of a kiss…and the general thematic throughline of, you know, certain practices of love as practices of consumption, naberius later being figured as the ‘meat’ in question contains echoes of this eroticism which ofc guides the contours of the necromancer/cavalier dynamic, eroticism as a currency of power, we know all of this stuff because it’s all over the text but i am just thumbs-upping it from the sidelines

the coffins had me thinking of utena’s black rose arc, which is a fun link to make considering the equivalent moment in the main body of nona is also referencing utena, ie. with the ‘rules’ of the duel being that cam has to get the handkerchief out of ianthe’s pocket as kind of an equivalent to skewering the rose. i feel like the tlt/utena overlap is pretty self-explanatory but it’s just fun to see the fingerprints all over lol

i think a lot of this was treading old ground thematically (erotics of consumption, dog motifs, we’ve seen it already!) but i will say that i did Yell Out Loud over ‘who's she got dawdling behind her but that creature—tugging visibly at her leash like an overeager dog.’ reminded of the other memorable use of ‘leash’—’even the devil bent for god to put a leash around her neck’—and, of course, the endless parade of commonalities between gideon & alecto. anyway there’s not really anything in this line that we didn’t already know about gid as a character, thematically speaking, but i point it out because it inflicted +100 psychic damage when i read it. gideon as a ‘creature’ is particularly slimy, & sort of puts me in mind of ianthe's tendency to talk about what appears to us as 'butch masculinity' (as opposed to the more effete masculinity of augustine or even babs) with a notably derogatory slant (the 'hurtful threats of sexual violence' line comes to mind); i don't know that i have much to say about it here specifically but it's an interesting one that i think informs the kirianthe dynamic pretty heavily (especially when held up against, like, harrianthe ... ianthe has a kind of respect for whatever harrow's gay and stupid gender is Doing (at least insofar as she can mould it to her own desires; i'm thinking of the dios apate forcefemme scene lol) in ways that i don't think she has for kiriona? but this is v off-topic, lol).

i have never been especially taken by dulcie as a character but i think this may finally have forced me to fold and admit that she’s great. her haters!!! her agonies!!! camilla would have to cook!! the balance between levity and sincerity was really well-managed. & i love the double meaning of “unwanted guest” as both palamedes intruding on ianthe’s mind palace and naberius setting up shop inside of her.

i need a week to sit with where this idea of the consumed soul as being literally ‘digested’ such that it can begin to ‘inhabit,’ however immaterially, the host body, or like to alter the characteristics of the host body such that to carry out such a consumption is to kind of kill yourself as well, slots in with lolita theory. or like, i need alecto right now. i am however reminded of chew, a short story that muir wrote in 2013, which also plays with these ideas of sexual assault as a forcing of a part of yourself meaningfully ‘into’ another person, and cannibalism as the reenactment of such a process, figured in the story as kind of a reclamation or at least an assertion of permanence—“I was always going to be in the ground with him in me,” she said. “I just wanted to make sure, that’s all. I just wanted to make sure.”—which the unwanted guest seems to kind of, play with in reverse? i don’t know, but i’m interested—as ever—in where muir wants to take these ideas of rape and consumption and absorption that she’s got in her hands.

i keep returning to…i hesitate to say ‘parallels’ because i think that imposes a narrative onus that i’m not actually that convinced by, but these, like, commonalities between babs and gideon. gideon is played off against so many people (cristabel, loveday, alecto being the big ones) that it feels kind of inane to add another person to the pile, but like…they’re the two who get got in canaan house, they’re both ironically ‘false’ cavaliers and expressions of the ‘truest’ or most paradigmatic form that cavalierhood ‘can’/’should’ take, they both have unconventionally gendered names (‘babs’ is a shortened form of ‘barbara,’ it is a typically feminine name imo) and (by our standards) somewhat unconventional genders (gideon is butch, babs effete)—and of course the unwanted guest places a lot of emphasis on the coercive ‘making’ of cavalierhood (the reference to babs being ‘fixed’ were he to have a disability! ianthe’s glib ‘society really is to blame’ comment—ironic, obviously, but not wholly untrue) not dissimilar to the emphasis that gtn puts on cytherea moulding gideon into the state she comes to be in at the end. babs and gideon as the two possessed corpses in nona, obviously. two wildly diverse but ultimately converging trajectories! a dialectical tension between their fundamental ‘opposition’ (as by-the-book cavalier vs whatever gideon is doing) and their fundamental ‘sameness’ whereby the dialectic is resolved in their mutual deaths. also just, of course, continuing the throughline that muir has had going for a while now, of gender/gendering as a set of coercive enforcements loyal to a hegemonic structuring of the world.

1. How many words did you publish on AO3 in 2024? 53,872! it isn't much by many metrics, but please also consider this is after not writing fanfic consistently for a good 8-ish years?? so i am proud!

2. How many fics did you complete this year? three! artistic (un)intention for homestuck, we will be everything we say and Little Games for acotar!

3. How many in progress or ongoing fics did you start this year? technically two since wwbews was started and finished in 2024, but if we're talking just currently unfinished? one!

4. What was your favorite thing you wrote? i'm probably proudest of our fingers touch (i feel my way back home) at the moment. my writing is by no means perfect, but i feel like i'm getting better and better with every work. i dont think my excessive criticism on myself helps as much as i would hope though lol

5. What piece was your most experimental or different from your usual style? definitely Little Games - i'd literally never done any sort of plot what plot/porn without plot before and it was so weird just. throwing them in this proverbial sandpit and not building up any further context. i need to practice it more!

6. Did any fics surprise you - either while writing or their reception? i genuinely did not expect we will be everything we say to get as much love as it has received. like, i wrote that bad boy as an indulgence on my occasional love for friends-to-lovers - write what you wanna see, yknow? but i know it's quite boring for many and not quite their cup of tea. absolutely warmed my heart and soul to see how many people also loved it!! also, feyre leaving college completely in chapter 5 also took me by surprise. i was writing it and the spirit of the character and plot completely took the wheel.

7. Do you have a fic you wrote and loved that went under the radar? (This is your sign to reblog/repost it!) i feel like Little Games didn't get as much love as i had hoped it might, but at the same time. twas literally my first acotar fic. it is my little fic that could. i love it no matter how many hits it gets. broke a glass for that thang

8. Who is an artist that inspired you? literally anything that @witchlingsandwyverns or @velidewrites does is transcendant to me. other ones that have made my brainworms go wild are @eospaint and megabee on insta!! there are a lot of others but my brain is so mushy.

9. Who is an author that inspired you? quite literally where tf do i even begin. i have fallen into such a cozy supportive little network of fan creators that i am forever inspired by and grateful for. this is not an exhaustive or ordered list but @whatishowedyouinthedark, @climbthemountain2020, @popjunkie42, @damedechance, @shardminds, @rosanna-writer and @secret-third-thing are a handful of my close and bestest fanfic buds. you are all my spouses and i am kissing you all with tongue.

10. Who is a new author you discovered? see: above question. quite literally read the entire acotar series thus far and all the fic writers in question in 2024.

11. Did you do any collaborations? How did it start? i have but it shan't be revealed yet :3 all i'll say is my friends put out a call and i gave it a red hot go <3

12. What accomplishments are you proudest of? getting back into writing fanfic at all. and reading. i was in such a literary slump and it's been so wonderful to jump back in with two feet and land in such a welcoming, supportive place.

What did you learn about writing or creating this year? sprinting is king for my little likely-adhd ass. i also used to be a big pantser, but i'm finding a balance between planning and pantsing seems to be the way to go. i'm still learning though! also, breaks are needed and necessary and i'm not unproductive for not creating for a while. it's part of the cycle. also, things can be shit and thats okay <3

14. Any advice you’d like to share with new or aspiring writers? carry some sort of notepad with you - those ideas that come to you like a flash of lightning will not stay with you, that is the devil lying to you. don't be afraid to scrap segments or even whole works if it feels like something isnt working, sometimes you have to go back to the drawing board and start fresh. write what you love and/or want to see. be freaky and horny with it always.

15. What are your creative goals for 2025? put out more! be less concerned with the set dressing and just get right into the meat of it. i have a list of ideas literally staring at me on my desk and i wanna hook into them!!

'tis the damn season. I spent so much time researching all the American parts of it, it was so heavily beta'd and edited to make sure that side all made sense. It wasn't supposed to be that long but somehow it ended up as my longest oneshot. I started and finished it at a time when I was feeling a lot like Imogen does in the fic and it really helped to get my feelings out that way. special thank you for @essjaywrites for giving me the word homestuckness. it's the fic that shows my writing off the best in my opinion and shows just how much I've changed as a writer since May alone.

I put my whole heart into this fic. If you only read one thing I wrote this year, let it be this.

nothing really sticks out beside everything because this is my first year posting omg

Technically yes? I mean, the Life Series and Hermitcraft are two things I often pull into each other, and I've written some crossover stuff for gift exchanges, but I'm more of an AU girlie (gender neutral) most of the time.

I do, and it tends to vary a lot. I think most of the smut I've written has been Cass/AuDy though lmao

I sure have! Co-writing is so fun and I want to do it more.

What's your all-time favourite ship?

Cass/AuDy is the ship that taught me what an OTP really IS. Like, I've had ships that I enjoyed and I thought they were OTPs, but no. Cass/AuDy will be with me forever, even as I kind of drift away from being as involved in the FatT fandom.

What's a WIP that you want to finish but don't think you ever will?

I don't know that I'll ever finish Arranged Candidacy AU. It's just too big and ambitious and I love the concept but I don't think I have it in me to do it justice.

What are your writing strengths?

I've been told my character voices are good. A comment I got that I think about when I feel bad about writing involves the phrase "(disgraced Merle Highchurch creator Clint McElroy gives up. "Yes, harpydora is the Merle person now")."

What are your writing weaknesses?

What's a fandom/ship you haven't written for yet but want to?

I have a very silly idea for some musical!Beetlejuice/adult Lydia fluff that I want to write for Danielle. I just have to clear my plate first.

What's your favourite fic that you've written?

light up the way, hands down. It is still in the top five longest things I've ever written, and I frequently go back to it because I'm still pretty happy with all the character beats. It was so self-indulgent.

CKAU: Part One of ???

I often find myself struggling to write the first chapter of the Communication Knife AU.

When I first started writing awesamdream, it was me spitballing ideas in the dreblr minecraft server when it first opened, and trying to have fun with a ship that, at the time, wasn't considered A Big Thing, or was purely for whump purposes. And while writing for an AU, Sif was also there, poking and tormenting lovingly as a Sif does, and mentioned the concept of Auspisticism, a homestuck relationship, in regards to Dream, Sam, and Punz. And then one thing led to another, and now I have this big thing that makes me happy and had grown a lot bigger than I expected it to, and there's so many little drabbles and snippets and smut pieces that came out of it, that by the time new people started asking what the hell I was talking about, I realized that the context wasn't properly put together and hard to explain.

So I tried to put together a whole fic for it! And it hasn't been going well.

Because I really want to do the fic justice. I want to make it sound really lovely and use all the right words and explain very well all the things that made me insane so you can understand just the way it went when all this started! But in trying to do that, it's become so hard to write. I feel stuck, the words won't come, I overthink and overedit, and nothing is good enough.

But I still really, really do want to explain the AU so you can understand. And i know it won't be the perfect, well designed thing I built in my head, with all the write prose and all the little extra fancy things, but I'd rather you have it imperfectly than not at all.

Here you go, part one of ???:

When things get bad for Dream in prison, he offers Sam sexual favors in return for better treatment, food/blankets/etc., and Sam agrees to this, regardless of the terrible ethics involved. Its not a great situation, for like, Obvious Reasons, and the consent is very much dubious here. Sam's possessive behavior is at its peak, and even if there ends up being less torture as part of the deal, it doesn't change that things are still fucked up.

When Dream escapes prison and finds Sam during Daedalus Arc, after scarring Sam, Dream offers to meet up to have sex again next week, out of a need to feel in control, to prove how he was Totally Not Traumatized he was and how he was absolutely fully capable of consenting to it, and the two continue their sexual activities.

However, Punz, who has been in a comfortably open relationship with Dream since before prison, bristles at the idea of Sam taking advantage of Dream, of the severe power imbalance still being a problem, and comes with him to these sexual encounters to protect him and keep Sam from pushing Dream's boundaries. They set up some rules, and if Sam breaks any or steps out of line, Punz will stab him with a special, gaudy blue knife that has 'Communication' engraved in its handle.

"He tortured you!"

"Technically it was Quackity who did the torturing." Dream corrected him, meticulously sorting his inventory. Their base felt suffocating, tiny, and he wanted to be done and gone already, but Punz seemed ready to fight him the whole way.

"Don't give me that shit," Punz snapped. "Sam let him in, he starved you half to death, for God's sake, Dream, he r-"

"It was not." At breakneck speed, Dream turned on his heel and hissed. "I said yes. Don't you dare say I didn't."

"You weren't in a position to say no." Punz said fiercely. Something dark and angry crushed their heart in its fist. "You didn't have any choice-"

"I had a choice!"

The world seemed to stop moving, the air stale. Dreams breaths were shaky, heaving, and Punz realized with a lump in their throat that Dream was trembling from stress.

"I had a choice." Dream repeated. "And it was mine. Not his, not anyone's. I'm going to see him again, and that's my choice too. Not yours."

They could stop him, a little voice in the back of their head murmured. They could stop him and- and keep him safe. Prevent anyone else from hurting him again. They could say the right words that would cause him to falter ("for me." Punz had once pleaded, and Dream bent, as he always did) and then Sam would never touch him. They could even kill the creeper hybrid, to be sure. They would destroy the entire server with the Plan, and Dream would finally be safe.

But.

Dream needed this. Whatever he said, whatever he thought, he'd been denied agency for so long. The thought of them being the one to take it away, his friend, when they were supposed to be the one person on the server who he could trust… it made them feel sick.

Dreams trembling faded, and he straightened up, before he throwing his cloak over his shoulder.

Punz made his decision. "I'm coming with you."

"What?"

"I'm your backup, and your mercenary, and your partner. If Sam has a problem with it, just say you rehired me."

At the very beginning, the rules are this:

No Kissing. Punz doesn't think Sam deserves kisses, and they're vicious about enforcing this. Kisses are for Punz alone, and Sam is incredibly jealous.

No marks. Sam has tried to leave hickies or bruises, but it was quickly shut down. When he argued this, Punz told him that he could leave marks when all the marks (torture scars) he already made on Dream were gone.

No cuddling or aftercare. Since Sam insisted that the sex didn't mean anything, clearly that means he doesn't need to be involved in taking care of Dream after. Punz will take him away and they can be the one to hold Dream. (Not that Sam longed for that. He doesn't feel more desperate each time the two leave him behind. Of course not.)

The most obvious one: what Dream says goes. Sam isn't allowed to Override Dream and insist his way is better, and he isn't allowed to take whatever he wants without asking. If Dream needs a moment, or would like to change positions, or even just say he'd rather not, Sam must listen. Punz will make him listen.

And so every week all three of them get together, usually at the prison, and have sex. Its a very complicated, unhealthy dynamic, for a lot of different reasons.

Punz, usually able to gauge what Dream wants/what would make him comfortable, is left blind, because Dream is always a little uncomfortable here, always stressed, and Punz can't fix that. They're trying their best, and they know that Dream could shut down and be unable to express himself if the wrong button is pushed, but in the beginning its a mess. At some point he micromanages where Sam puts his hands, pushing and arguing with him over whose allowed to say where Sam can and can't touch, and neither of the two argue that it should be Dream.

It doesn't help that Punz is jealous. They don't want to be, especially not in this situation. But Sam's possessiveness of Dream, the way he taunts about knowing Dream in ways nobody else possibly could- it sets off that part of Punz that has always been so self-satisfied with his place as Dream's most intimate companion, the other half of his soul.

(Its the server's second stupidest dick measuring contest where they accidentally objectify Dream in the process, while they also compete to see who Dream likes more.)

Sam, on the other hand, is constantly having to reckon with the fact that he wasn't actually as good as he thought he was. Punz doesn't let him get away with spewing the same lines of crap and insisting he's always right. Sam also considered himself A Good Lover and good at getting Dream off (the only one who knows him, who knows him Best), and his ego takes a fucking hit when Punz corrects him. When Punz points out that certain things were actually harmful/not enjoyable, its hard for Sam to accept because it means he fucked up and made assumptions in his head and Punz rubs each of those in.

Sam tries to defend himself by pointing out that Dream went along with it, and which leads to Punz pointing out that he didn't have much of a choice/wasn't in a good situation to make that choice at the time, and that's the one time it nearly comes to blows between them before Dream speaks up to tell them both to knock it off.

(Sam discovers One (1) kink that Punz doesn't know about and he's so fucking smug about it despite fucking up literally everything else.)

(No matter how many wins Sam thinks he gets during their weekly time together, Punz still gets to take Dream home, do aftercare and keep him safe. Sam hates how much he wants that too, despite the fact that according to his own weird moral code he shouldn't.)

And as much as this is most definitely causing more issues, it does leave Dream actually feeling more in control of his situation.

He gets so much praise now! This is basically therapy but better! He even gets aftercare with no torture. He's getting good dick and most of his kinks are getting hit, truly luxurious for a cDream. He's a lot more confident and content, and he isn't constantly on the defensive, because if Punz says he didn't deserve what happened to him, even if its just a single person, Dream doesn't have to fight to prove that he's a person deserving of basic human decency.

But the Most Important Thing That Makes All This Take The Turn It Does: At first, Sam thinks that the proper solution to all of this is to get Dream all to himself again in his prison where he belongs and not fixing his behavior any more than what he needs specifically to get there.

However, during an very short period of time where Sam is able to be with Dream without Punz there to scrutinize, Sam attempts to do stuff like how he used to before Punz, to prove he doesn't need him, that they don't need him.

But now he knows, he knows that Dream isn't actually into a lot of the things he was trying, or at the very least he likes other things more. He had it proved to him, and he's aware that things can be a lot better. Dream's clearly nervous, anxious, and not super into this, and Sam can tell, and now all he can see are all those little signs that he's fucking up, and it's getting into his head.

In the end, he can't even get himself to go through with it, because now it feels wrong and he can't ignore that. He makes an excuse, and he's frustrated and aggressive, but he doesn't try this again without Punz there.

Mentally he can justify it as Punz would kill him if he did. This is just a matter of self-preservation.

But quietly his plans adjust to not just needing to get Dream under his control. He'll need to get Punz too in order for things to be perfect.

Anyway, my favorite fanfiction is a Homestuck fic by oxfordroulette called Vanitas Vanitatum. This mildly pornographic novel-length fantasy au dirkjohn fic is genuinely, independent of actual Homestuck, one of my all time favorite written stories.

Vanitas Vanitatum is the third fic in a long series, but it's technically a standalone. The first fic in the series is a jadekat fantasy road trip adventure, the second one is about jadekat getting dragged into a bunch of mysterious royal intrigue at Jade's arranged marriage to Eridan, and Vanitas Vanitatum is about the aftermath of that intrigue. John Egbert ascends to the throne of their country after the death of his and Jade's evil mother in the previous fic, and he's totally fine guys! He's definitely absolutely having zero mental health troubles!

Dirk, our pov character, enters as a new member of John's secret police. He slowly befriends his new king/boss and, in doing so, begins to discover the extent to which John is totally definitely okay! He's fine Dirk so you can stop asking! And because he's Dirk Strider, when he discovers how John is struggling, he immediately wants to Fix Him. Enter a twisted mess of genuinely falling in love and horrible shadowy puppet master schemes.

Vanitas Vanitatum is the ultimate "I can fix him" romance. It is an "I can fix him" romance to the extent that Dirk's desire to "fix" John becomes one of the fic's main conflicts—in addition to John's genuine mental health crisis and the political crisis that's happening around them. If you know anything about my taste in fiction, you're probably looking at "dark fantasy story about a guy trying to unravel and understand his crush's mental health problems" and going "okay yeah. I see why Andie is obsessed with this."

If you're a Homestuck fan, even if you're not usually a DirkJohn person, I cannot recommend Vanitas Vanitatum highly enough. It's well-written, it's funny, it's heartwarming, and it's absolutely heartbreaking. The plot is twisty and, especially if you've read the rest of the series, absolutely filled with delicious dramatic irony. The way oxfordroulette writes Dirk's pov is an absolute treat. And while the fic is fairly nsfw (there's only three actual sex scenes if I remember right, but lot of discussion and thinking about sex in the interim), the real porn in this fic is the food and costume porn. The author knows what the people want, and it's decadent food descriptions and crazy fantasy royalty outfits. It's also illustrated!

Honestly, if the fic didn't require an understanding of troll romance quadrants to make any goddamn sense, I'd be recommending it to non Homestuck fans as well. It's just a really good story.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? The barely-inspired-by-Hellboy AU that I should probably just write as an original story. But I won't because I'm a coward, lmao.

16. What are your writing strengths? Consistency and structure, I think. I'm a tradesperson, not an artist.

17. What are your writing weaknesses? I feel like I lack a lot of foundational material that other artists have due to my lack of education and just generally not knowing things. Like, the kind of works I personally admire and learn the most from, I lack the toolset to create myself, which is constantly frustrating.

Structure is sometimes a shackle, and I often feel like I can't execute something truly Artistic because to me, writing is a trade, not an art.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? I do this sometimes and lemme tell you, every single fucking time I do, I rigorously check everything.

Like, I recently agonized over whether a character would use Verzeihung versus Entschuldigung in a fic, and that was a solid hour of research. Worth it tho!

I'm of the opinion that if you're just going to use google translate or something, then I would elect to write it as ["Excuse me," he said in overly-polite German as he passed], but that's me.

What kinds of fics do you like to write? I like to write my OTP's, I keep most of my stories to myself but I have posted some chapters of my first OTP. I've tended to keep close to canon so far but I want to branch out to an AU for college or sm. I mainly write for myself, a little indulgence.

So my version would probably be a mix of his routes.

Lanque would be very biased towards his Moirail.

Your blood color doesn't entirely matter to him but you can be an Olive Blood if you want!

Although... I can see him being more manipulative towards you as an Olive Blood due to your lower blood color from him.

this is gonna be hard I'm in so many fandoms lol I'm gonna try to be diverse. Also this is super long

1. Eritav (Homestuck)

OUGHHH where do i start with these 2. Ok so tavros is my fave troll so naturally during the period i was reading Homestuck a lot i stared having dreams about him. And for some reason one time Eridan was also there so i was intrigued and looked into their ship tag on AO3 and found the best fic ever with like the best characterization, writing etc... Before i literally didn't give 2 shits about eridan but it made me love his character as well. It's called "Black sails, Black romance" by mtjester and it's about Tavros and Eridan developing a kismesissitude(which is basically hate love, for those that don't read hs). The reason i put a pic of them down there as moirails is because i can honestly see them in any quadrant, despite them never talking in canon.

For moirallegiance, i feel like it would start out rocky but eventually develop into something better. Tavros would actually be allowed to speak his mind and develop more confidence since i dont think Eridan would shut him down constantly like Vriska, as Eridan is desperate for his quadrants to actually work. And Eridan would obviously benefit from having someone to keep his ass in line.

I can see them developing into matesprits later from that as well.

And as for kismesissitude, well it's already getting too long and i already gave a fic rec for it.

2. Toxic4Toxic/Socket/Rocket x Sinedd whatever they're called (Galactik football)

Must i say anything. They give each other undiscovered mental illnesses and are horrible for each other and i love that for them. Rocket is my favorite character and so his arc in season 2 was most interesting to me, which includes his relationship with Sinedd. I feel like they could have done more with them in s2, but i already made a post about that.

3. Hinadam (Super Danganronpa 2)

AHHHH THEM. Contender for fave rarepair of all time and fave Danganronpa ship overall. Best fics on ao3. 0 fandom toxicity surrounding them. Should be shipped more than k0mahina. Is more canon than k0mahina(I'm gonna get torn apart for this opinion but idc!!!)

like the entire freetime events with Gundham ends with him letting Hajime hold his hand, which he never let ANYONE do due to his touch aversion. He never develops a relationship this strong with anyone, not even Sonia who is his friend in the game. Hajime is the only person he feels safe and comfortable letting down his walls with due to Hajime's genuine effort to understand him better and be his friend. It's genuinely touching to me idkk i think i cried a bit first time i saw it. I'm not going to go into spoilers but good god man...the chapter ....if you know you know

and also in the island mode ending, Gundham asks Hajime if he wants to live a quiet life with himself and his animals. How is this not shipped more they're literally so in love it's not even funny

And NO i do not ship it because gundham is the best character and Hajime is the character i relate to most. but that could be part of it

Most of my once-OTPs have relaxed over the years (Sephiroth/Cloud was my OTP for a while, and probably the original, but recently I've been devouring all the Rufus/Cloud content I can find). I used to be really into Drarry too, but I'll read a lot of Harry pairings, so while I have preferences (*cough* tomarrymort *cough*) he's kind of a fandom bicycle in my mind.

The OTP that has remained an OTP for me since I first discovered it is Homura/Madoka from Madoka Magica. I have a lot of feelings about them.

I - Has Tumblr caused you to stop liking any fandoms, if so, which and why?

Despite creating my account in 2011, I only really got active earlier this year, so I missed the Homestuck and SuperWhoLock phenomena. But I will say it was a bit of a culture shock to see the tomarrymort fandom in action on a social platform. Previously, I'd only engaged through ao3 and a little on Discord. I had to really curate my experience and block some folks because seeing all the opinions and drama almost made me take a step back from my fics and the pairing. But I think I've found a niche that makes me happy, so fingers crossed I'm here for a while!

L - Say something genuinely nice about a character who isn’t one of your faves.

I appreciate how human Ron is. He's not perfect, he acts like a teenager more than Hermione or Harry do, and he makes bad decisions and is petty -- but he has a big heart and can be very insightful when it comes to his friends.

F - What’s the longest you’ve ever been in a fandom?

I've been in the Harry Potter fandom off and on for more than twenty years now! For the FFVII fandom, it's a little less -- off and on for nineteen years.

X - A trope which you are almost certain to love in any fandom.

I have read somnophilia fics in fandoms I have no knowledge of because I like the trope~ Other than that, some good pining always gets me. Especially when at least one of the people involved feels they can't/shouldn't care for the other person.

I dunno if I have a favorite tag to use but my favorite tag I’ve ever used is “past marriage fraud.” At least that I can remember.

Other than “alternate universe — human” which I won’t count, my most commonly used tag is “canon compliant” and that feels right. I really like working within the confines of canon to add more depth to stories.

Ummm I guess I’ll go with high school AU. I know I’ve technically written about characters in high school, but I don’t consider that a high school AU the same way I don’t consider collegestuck* a high school au. Like, having characters in high school IMO does not a high school AU make. High school AU means the high school choice came first, over having high school aged characters.

Anakin doesn’t know how Obi-Wan manages to look so cocky, cool and confident, and self-assured while sitting spread-legged and dick out. Well, bulge out, technically. That’s what Obi-Wan called it when he described in detail what he wanted to do with Anakin when they finally saw each other again, voice tinny and staticky over the comm, as he told Anakin to touch himself from hundreds of parsecs away.

Anakin can’t help but keep his legs tightly pressed together, his hands keep moving to try to cover his dick. He’s half-hard already and has been since the Resolute docked on the same planet as Obi-Wan. When they finally reunited, Obi-Wan had pressed a gentle, almost shy, kiss against Anakin’s lips - the first in the many months since they’d been apart. What they had was both new and old - new in that they finally broke down the barriers between platonic, familial, romantic, and sexual that previously stood in their way, but old because their urges and feelings were well-worn and familiar.

They just hadn’t gotten the chance to have sex yet. The last time they were close enough to touch, Obi-Wan was injured and Anakin was busy with Ahsoka, and it was only just before both were shipped out to opposite edges of the galaxy that Anakin broke down. Pathetic and embarrassed, crying like a child that he didn’t want them to part, crying until Obi-Wan pressed a cool hand to his face and told him that he didn’t want them to part either. And since then, it had just been sending messages over the comms whenever they had a spare moment, calling each other when one was just walking up and the other finally going to sleep, sending charged and longing glances at each other as they projected into meetings.

Now they were together. And Anakin had no clue what to do. When he first ran into Obi-Wan’s arms, he shyly suggested that they sneak away from the Negotiator and the military docks. They could go closer to town and find a hotel. Obi-Wan shook his head and chuckled at Anakin’s confused expression.

“We’d have to pay a fortune in cleanup fees,” Obi-Wan said. “My quarters are better suited for what I have in store for you.”

Sitting naked on Obi-Wan’s bed, watching as Obi-Wan’s bulge slithers out of the smooth, rounded sheath - his nook, Anakin thinks dumbly - leaving a watery blue mark on everything it brushes against, Anakin finally understands what Obi-Wan meant when he talked about clean up fees. He almost forgets to breathe as he watches it unsheath, the base getting wider the more it comes out, the flexible, tapered tip growing more adventurous as it can reach further. The whole appendage is a majestic teal-blue, as is and the slick that drips off of it. The few times Anakin has been unfortunate enough to see Obi-Wan bleed, his blood had been the same.

“Well,” Obi-Wan says, the teasing note in his voice almost insufferable. “Is it up to your standards?”

“I have no idea what to do with it,” Anakin admits, feeling hopelessly juvenile. While his own dick twitches, Obi-Wan’s flicks around and squirms. Obi-Wan brings a hand to it, and the bulge wraps around it. Not the other way around.

“You could touch it, to start.” The teasing lilt of his tone has diminished but not disappeared entirely. “Don’t worry, dear. It won’t bite.”

Anakin grumbles but scoots closer to Obi-Wan, who leans back against the headboard of his bed, looking as comfortable as ever. Anakin brings a tentative hand, his flesh hand, to the writhing limb and jumps when it surges over to meet it. The tip twitches and worms its way between his fingers, curling around them, like it's trying to hold his hand. It’s not as firm as Anakin’s dick, there’s more give underneath the slimy skin, but it’s strong enough to spread and squeeze together Anakin’s fingers at will. He’s surprised by how much colder it is than he expected. Not freezing or unpleasant, but noticeably cooler than his skin. (He always loved how cool and comforting Obi-Wan always felt. There was nothing better than his Master laying a chilly hand on his forehead when he was feverish as a child or his refreshing embrace after a spar gone well.)

He lets out a giggle, silly and stupid, as he moves his hand in a mimicry of how he jerks off. The bulge moves with him, guiding him, keeping his attention solely on it to not let it slip from his grasp. Translucent blue fluid bleeds through the gaps in Anakin’s fingers and drips down his wrist until it splatters onto the thick towels that Obi-Wan laid out on top of his sheets.

“See,” Obi-Wan’s voice almost startles Anakin, so caught up was he. His voice has a breathy quality to it now, and when Anakin glances up at his face, he sees Obi-Wan’s half-lidded eyes and flushed cheeks. “Nothing to be worried about.”

“I wasn’t worried,” Anakin lies. He pouts when Obi-Wan snorts. “I wasn’t!”

“No, no, of course, you weren’t.” Before Anakin can argue some more, he presses on. “Did you prepare yourself like I told you?”

Anakin flushes a deeper pink. He nods softly. “Yes, Master.”

It was agonizing, trying to sneak away from his crew long enough to finger himself open (“At least three wide and as deep as you can reach.”) and put in the long, tapered plug that Obi-Wan shipped to him. (How he managed to sneak the package in with the regular shipment of rations, medical supplies, and parts, Anakin didn’t know.) For hours, Anakin had to walk, sit, and move through the Resolute, as if there wasn’t a silicon toy in his ass. He only found relief after Obi-Wan had let him to his room with a large hand resting on his lower back and when he excused himself to the washroom to freshen up. As soon as the plug was out, abandoned in the sink (Obi-Wan made him wear it, so he could clean it up.), Anakin missed the stretch and heft of it. Now, he understood why Obi-Wan insisted he wore it.

“Such a good boy,” Obi-Wan praises. Anakin smiles and his dick twitches, getting even harder. “What position do you want to start in?”

Anakin has imagined himself in so many of them with Obi-Wan but the twisting bulge in his hand, and the leaking slit that he can spy underneath, where it's coming out of, have wiped his mind blank.

“What’s easiest for your… uh… for you?”

Obi-Wan grins wolfishly. “Oh, you don’t have to worry about me, dear.” He leans over and presses a sweet kiss against Anakin’s open mouth. Hunched over uncomfortably, hand around Obi-Wan’s dick and making out with him, Anakin would be happy even if they just spent the rest of the night like this. But Obi-Wan promised all sorts of strange and wonderful things and it seems like he’s intent on doing as many as he can.

“Why don’t you lay back and we can see how it goes from there,” Obi-Wan suggests as he pulls back. A spiderweb-thin string of spit hangs and stretches between them. Anakin can’t take his eyes off of it until it snaps and drips down his chin. It takes him a moment to register what Obi-Wan said but once he does he nods. It takes another moment to let go and pull his hand away from Obi-Wan’s bulge, reluctant as it is to lose Anakin’s pleasurable grasp.

On his back, Anakin realizes just how many towels Obi-Wan has layered onto the usually stiff beds that, even Jedi General, are given. It’s almost plush from all the layers. Anakin wonders whether Obi-Wan had to save up for all these towels, whether he had to consciously plan to use them for this evening, or whether they count as a species accommodation and were provided for him. Anakin hopes it is the latter - that all the bickering at the senate over military funding and taxes ended up funding the towels that Anakin is going to get fucked on. Even if it isn’t, he’s sure that Obi-Wan will get a kick out of it when he tells him what he’s thinking. It can wait until later, though.

Obi-Wan gets to his knees and hovers over Anakin, planting a hand next to his head and smiling down at him.

“Hi,” Anakin whispers and immediately feels silly for doing so. But Obi-Wan just smiles wider.

“Hello,” he replies. “Are you comfortable?”

Anakin nods.

“Alright. Tell me if you want me to stop.” Unlikely, Anakin thinks. He strains his neck to watch as Obi-Wan grabs his bulge, starting at the thick back and sliding his hand towards the tip, holding it steady as he shuffles closer to Anakin’s winking hole.

“Oh,” he gasps when he feels it stroke his hole. He spreads his legs wider, earning him another ‘good boy’ from Obi-Wan, as he presses his bulge into Anakin. At first, it doesn’t want to go in, too content mapping the rest of Anakin’s ass with its blue film. Then, it catches Anakin’s rim, feels how warm and wet and open Anakin is for it, and it starts squirming to get into it. It’s embarrassing, how quickly Anakin loses the ability to control the words he says or how loudly he says them. How could he be expected to remain poised when Obi-Wan was reaching so deep inside that Anakin thought he always feel empty after tonight? His hair is flustered to his face and his eyes glazed over, mouth slightly slack. For all the slick that leaks out, more of it stays plugged inside Anakin, as Obi-Wan continues fucking into him and his bulge writhes. Anakin groans in pleasure and pain, as his tummy begins to be pressed taut from all the liquid stuck inside. When Obi-Wan peels his eyes open from where they’ve fluttered shut, the sight of Anakin squirming, filled with come, makes him moan even louder, and another wave of slick pulses out.

“Obi-Wan,” Anakin rasps, twisting until he can look Obi-Wan in the eye. He has so many things he wants to say. That was amazing. That was the weirdest fucking thing that I’ve ever done. I want to do it every night. I don’t want to leave you. Let me stay here forever. Instead, he swallows and asks, “How long until we can do that again?”

Obi-Wan barks out a laugh. He reaches for Anakin’s flesh hand, tacky with come, and holds it tenderly. “No need to rush. We have all night, love.”

Anakin wants to say That’s the problem, it’s only for the night. He wants to say I want to bottle this feeling so that I’ll always have it.

“You didn’t answer the question.”

Obi-Wan hums. “Give me until I can walk again and then let you swallow my bulge until you choke.”

Anakin swallows and licks his lip. “Okay,” he says. “Alright. Don’t take too long, then.”

Obi-Wan chuckles and looks at him lovingly. “I’ll do my best, Anakin.”

Fannish Fest February, Day 1: your first fandom

my first fandom was zelda! when i was 11, i had some friends who were really into it, and would talk about it all the time. i'd never really played games like that before-- i was into nintendo, but hadn't really played any of the main series other than mario-- but they made it seem SO COOL that i decided to give it a try.

i'd just made my first Big Purchase with the 3DS (it was 2011, i sold a bunch of my old games to save up for it, regretfully including my DSi) and OoT 3D had come out recently, so i figured that was a good pick. i remember having to convince my mom it was ~appropriate~ (she thought anything that involved magic was satanic ofc) before i bought it, but i got there eventually.

as far as i can remember, this was my first big media-based special interest. i went in DEEP, it was all i wanted to talk about, and looking back at a letter i wrote to myself then i'm like. how did no one pick up on the autism

i wasn't active in the zelda fandom in the same ways i do fandom nowadays, but i was decently active on the zelda dungeon forums. i remember sharing a poem or two, discussing theories, things like that. i posted the beginnings of an OC fic on quotev at one point that never went anywhere, but that was technically my first fanfic fjdskfjd

i remember through zelda dungeon i found peanutbuttergamer, who i still watch to this day. he opened the gates to a bunch of other youtubers i still keep up with too! and honestly zelda in general was the Gateway to my fandoms, i eventually got into anime and homestuck and it was all downhill from there (i say with so much love)

i still love zelda, though i'm not too involved in the transformative fandom side of things-- although after making a friend who's also very into it (hi @rosemirmir) i've been appreciating it more and seeing a bunch of stuff i wouldn't have otherwise. don't know if i'd be interested in writing fic for it, but it's nice to appreciate from the sidelines! 💕

these days, i'm not really in contact with the people who originally got me into zelda. but a few years back i did get to thank one of them for creating such a formative experience for me, and tell them i wouldn't be the person i was today without their zelda rambles 😄

my favorite zelda game is twilight princess, though after finishing link's awakening i think that's up there too. i'm currently playing through every game in order and it is a long journey, but i'm excited to see the rest of all the games i've barely scratched the surface of!
