a chanbaek analysis from a veteran exo-l

before anything else there are a few disclaimers i'd like to make:

i am writing this analysis right now because as a non exo stan i'm not into chanbaek that much anymore. of course i like them to some degree since i'm writing this and all but it's nothing in comparison to the way i felt about them two years ago. so i feel like it's easier to keep a less clouded (?) state of mind being where i'm at right now, mentally, in regards to them. i feel like i can look at things more objectively, which is why i decided to write this and share it with you all.

for all the smart asses out there, this is a ship analysis. yes, i’m reading too much into everything. that’s what an analysis is.

i'm a chanyeol stan. this analysis will, most likely, have more information about him in comparison to baekhyun. this is simply because i consumed more content about him since he's my bias (such as magazine interviews, fancams).

i don't stan exo anymore, but it's not because of anything they did. i liked them for a long time and made a lot of different friends because of this fandom, therefore i experienced a lot of hurt, scandals, fights and didn't deal very well with many things, so i decided to leave. this didn't happen because of exo themselves and neither did it happen because of the fandom itself. it happened because of the relationships i had.

that being said, i haven't been following them closely for the past year and a half, but i still keep up with stuff a bit, although not chanbaek related stuff since i gotta dive in kinda deeper for that lmao. so this analysis is mostly in depth for 2012-2018. if anything that you perceive as significant happened after 2018 i'm more than willing to hear your opinions about it.

so, let's get started!!

MAMA ERA

I have always felt like Chanyeol and Baekhyun's relationship was strange. I started shipping them when they debuted and more specifically because of the 130128 ISAC. When I was younger I didn't see a lot to discuss in their ISAC interactions besides it being cute and shippy, but I've started to look at it differently now.

I think everyone knows how ISAC is known for being basically a stage for fanservice. The whole "dating ground for idols" issue aside, judging from the amount of attention they direct towards the fans who manage to attend the event, idols are clearly instructed to perform fanservice. EXO's first ISAC had to be full of it, obviously, and they did give fans a lot to be happy about, content we still get giddy about to this day, and I'm sure they were instructed to act like this to please us. I don't believe that fanservice equals "false interactions": if two individuals are talking, touching each other, they are interacting, even if it is a carefully planned setting made specifically for pleasing fans. They still get reactions out of one another through these interactions, it is still relevant to the way these people's relationship will develop; even though these acts are done with the intent of pleasing a crowd.

Don't get me wrong, though. I don't think the 2013 ISAC fanservice changed anything in Chanbaek's relationship. In fact, I just want to use it as a way to illustrate something I will explain later on.

To be remembered in an industry you must have an image. You won't be getting anywhere without a carefully constructed visual image. Marilyn Monroe is always used as an example of this: she's someone you can easily make a costume of and people will instantly recognize it as her. She's basically a concept by now: blonde hair, red lips and white hair. These aspects take our mind back to her instantly. Of course, most celebrities don't achieve this type of icon status, but it is still important to cling to a specific concept/image of what you want your celebrity self to be perceived as. Without this, you'll be forgotten as soon as your career ends.

When Chanyeol debuted, he clung to the first trait they gave him: being a happy person, a.k.a "happy virus". If you were not an EXO fan back in 2013 then it's likely you're not even aware of this nickname that was given to him, but it's basically just what it sounds like (lol). He was bright, energetic, had a "teeth rich" smile (another nickname that was given to him back then), was able to give 10/10 laughter reactions to MCs and to his members jokes, was always enthusiastic to interact and smile towards fans. He even introduced himself as "happy virus Chanyeol" in interviews (and later on that changed to "EXO's voice Chanyeol" or "EXO's rapper Chanyeol").

I feel like Chanyeol was very much aware of this "must have" that I mentioned, this need to have an image pasted into yourself and have that image be what people will remember you as. We're all complex and multifaceted individuals, but the general public needs something simple to grab on to, something easy to remember. That happy guy from EXO? I know who he is! I'm sure this is the path Chanyeol chose, back when he debuted: to pick a trait given to you by the public and make it a huge part of your image.

However, that image of him didn't last very long. It certainly became tiring to worry so much about how he was being perceived, to carefully construct something so his career would last, specially when his group had so many scandals and went through a sudden burst of popularity that changed their lives completely. By 2017, Chanyeol already had a change of mind in relation to his career, these changes being mostly due to how he felt about music and what he wanted to do with it.

He recognized himself as having always being impatient, which might be the reason why he clung to a specific image so fast right after debuting:

"At the moment I just want to enjoy myself with the music as it comes, without feeling as though I have to do something. It isn’t a greed from impatience, I could call it more of a greed to do better."

"When I first debuted I thought I was very optimistic, but as time has passed I think a more reserved side of me is showing."

"I think I've grown in many ways. Maybe it’s because it’s as though I perform everyday, but the stage has become comfortable for me. Shall we say I’ve become more calm and composed? [...] I think I’ve become more mature."

He matured. He's still bright and energetic but he's also more reserved. He managed to keep up the fanservice that his fans adore in a way that is more fitting to his actual personality. It still is an image, but an image that's not as exhausting as his previous one, with its strict demands to act in a certain way all the time. I remember specific interview with MCs demanding him to smile (although jokingly, of course) saying things like "Aren't you EXO's happy virus?", so I'm sure he felt pressured.

This is interesting to think about when put side by side with his relationship with Baekhyun. Back when they debuted, Chanyeol and Baekhyun were close friends that clearly felt comfortable with each other, and it isn't surprising to think that Baekhyun would be Chanyeol's first pick when he thought about doing fanservice with someone. Of course, I can't exactly pinpoint their first fanservice moment since I'm not a walking EXO encyclopedia anymore, but I can say with certainty that both of them felt like it worked as soon as they first tried it with the fans, and that's the reason why they kept doing it. Conveniently, they were both good friends, so all was good.

Until well, it wasn't.

At some point, Chanyeol's interactions with Baekhyun seemed too eager for Baekhyun himself. There are various moments where this is visible, such as this one:

That one pic where Jongdae, who was in front of them, looked so damn uncomfortable I can't even bring myself to google it

Of course, they had some over the top fanservice that did work out pretty well, such as this one, both of them imitating Jonghyun's and Taemin's Internet War stage, which seems a little scripted now that I look at it properly, with Baekhyun seemingly expecting Chanyeol to do whatever it is that he did on that day. (Can you imagine this: both of them backstage, watching Jonghyun's and Taemin's performance in silence, and one of them just blurts out "We should do that too!". What the fuck was going on)

Now, know what this moment reminds me of? ISAC. On their Internet War imitation moment, Baekhyun seemed fine, playful, even, agreeing. During ISAC, however, doing basically the same thing again (this time on a lighter way even; since they weren't, you know. Imitating a strong performance such as Internet War.), he appears reluctant. It's a bit painful to watch.

What changed? The ISAC event happened a few months after the SMTOWN concert where they did the Internet War thing, so what made things become so different?

Before we go to the next thing, I have this assumption that chanyeol and baekhyun are two members that have the highest popularity in sk, either they are the top 3 or top 4, and my reason is bcs everytime there are individual album/photobook covers sold offline, their individual covers sold out the fastest, everytime, even with nature republic stuffs, ok so there's this possibility that we keep seeing yeolmaes and bbhls on each other's throat everytime bcs well both of them are two of the most popular exo members in SK (i mean even in china, chanyeol and baekhyun are the most popular members with sehun, there's data for this)

Who is your bias: the one and only Kim Minseok

What made you notice him: the first time I noticed him was back in like 2015 or so, I didnt follow exo till 2017 but I remember watching this kpop chart and they always used this section of wolf and he did this little hand movement and I just always took notice of him for it, it got to the point I looked forward to seeing it even because of him. Strangely though when I did start getting into exo it started through CBX and loving Hey Mama. I had no idea it was the same person so I'll sadly admit I overlooked him in that mv (I blame jongdae and that hair oof) but when ka ching happened I realized and it just kinda magically happened over night. He shot up my bias list and it didnt take long for him to claim my ult position.

What is your favorite thing about them: His duality. He is good a a lot of things i like to call him the wild card in exo because stick him with chanyeol and sehun and he can rap, stick him with chen and baekhyun and he can sing his heart out, and he is a really good dancer as well. He is the triple threat and is good at all all three so you could put him anywhere I wish sm would stop sleeping on this mk ...but his duality can also mean he can he hella cute but also hella rude and ruin my life on a daily basis.

Who would initiate skinship more: it depends. I tend to be more touchy so I feel like I would but it wouldnt suprise me at all if he did it more than me, i have noticed if he is comfortable he can be very touchy.

Who would hog the blankets more: me. I get cold so easy so I would for sure be the one snuggling up in a pile of blankets.

Who would be more clingy: I'm not like relationship clingy. I can be very independent when I need to be. But I do know I tend to be very physically clingy when I'm with my s/o or someone I love. I feel like he may be more clingy in general (like wanting to be with me) but I'm more clingy when it comes to physical touch.

Who would say ‘I love you’ first: probably me... but..he strikes me as someone who would say it more through his actions than actually saying it. So he would probably say it first in that respect but actually saying it out loud it would probably be me.

Who would be more easily flustered: me...(whaa why are all these me) I get flustered with teasing easily and he does tend to tease a lot so I feel like he would have a lot of fun making me flustered.

What kind of cuddling position would you two have: Spooning. I mean this gif says it all in my opinion. That or he would just become a tangled mess clinging to me.

Which color(s) remind you of him: purple.. idk why but I just love him in purple or in the color purple.

Which season would you like to spend with them: spring or fall. Those are my two favorites.

It was that stupid time of year, where halfway through the day it would change from stupid cold, to bath-water hot, to stupid cold all in the span of a few hours.

You hadn't lived in Seoul long, you moved because things had finally settled for your job as a consultant in the clothing realm of the world.

You helped out with a few shoots in Korea before and they really seemed to really like your blog and video look books, because they called on you quite few times before looking to hire you as a full time consultant.

You had finally finished unpacking all your cloths and had recently filmed a look book for fall, since you were still going to keep this up while waiting for the magazine shoot you had in a few weeks.

Your phone rings.

"Hello, this is Y/N."

The agency called to let you know who you would be working with and you nearly dropped your phone.

"Alright thank you, I will get to work on outfit coordination, please send me the details of the theme via email."

"Holy shit I'm going to be working with EXO!" you send your friend a message via kakao.

You set out to hit the shops.

You open the email where the details are mentioned, location, desired colour pallet, sizes, etc.

And the theme. This albums concept was boyfriend EXO... Your heart melted when you read that.

AND YOU GET TO DRESS THEM. It was a dream come true.

So after a few days you had the perfect outfits for everyone, except Chanyeol. You were having a hard time picking an outfit for your bias because you wanted this to be perfect. You wanted him to look the best because well, he was your favorite, but you knew you couldn't make it too obvious.

You looked at his airport style through photos on social media and got a feel for what a lot of fans liked seeing.

After compiling a list of the common factors you set off to find the perfect outfit.

And lordy did you ever.

The colour was slightly darker then the desired palate, but given that it was still in the colour range you figured that would be okay. You shot a quick email to the agency to ask for a bit more info about the album, and for a bit more info on some of the key detales for the single.

They were a bit hesitant, but lenient enough to send you a clip from the single they were going to promote after the shoot.

What they sent worked out beautifully because it featured Chanyeol.

The day of the shoot rapidly approached.

You had spent the better part of the night making sure all the accessories and things were in order so you could set the dressing room up for the boys.

You met with the makeup team to give them your suggestions and found out you would need to help out with makeup as well because they were short-staffed.

You hear the boys pile in and your heart races.

"Calm down" you whisper "you are a professional"

They do their standard greeting the staff bow and wait to be instructed on what to do.

"Each outfit is tagged so please find yours and change into them, I have accessories set aside for each of you so please come find me before you go to hair and makeup."

The boys nod and grab the garment bags and proceed to go change.

Sehun and Kyungsoo are the first to finish changing. They come over to get their accessories and then head over to hair and makeup.

Suho, Minseok, Chen and Baekhyun come over next. After a quick once over you decided to swap out Chens sweater with one of the backup shirts you had, since you hadn't realised that he had changed his hair colour, you figured out the original shirt didn't quite fit with the new hair.

Lay and Kai are the next two. You hand Lay the accessories and grab Kai's.

"By the way," you quickly say "this is totally out of the blue, but my best friend wanted me to mention that she is absolutely amazed by you"

He laughs the laugh that makes his eyes crinkle. "Thank you"

Chanyeol is the last to finish changing.

"Oh boy" you say quietly. You certainly picked a great outfit for him. You only had small accessories for him since the sweater was long on him. A bracelt and ring, even though you figured they might not be totally visable because of the sweater paws, the accessories were a perfect fit.

He gives you a smile and you let out a small "meep" completely by accidentally.

The shoot went pretty well, minor outfit adjustments and makeup touch-ups throughout to ensure the photos turned out good. The single shots were next. Second outfit time! You still preferred the group outfits, but the solo ones you picked were still killer and perfectly boyfriend material.

You get to help with makeup and of course fate was messing with you by allowing you to have Chanyeol sit at your chair.

The hair team had given him the fluffy hair you loved so much so you couldn't help but stare at him for a minute before his voice reminded you that you had work to do still.

"Uh you okay?" he asks looking at you in the mirror.

"I'm sorry! It's just, you are so amazing and I can usually separate work from my fangirl side, but I got lost for a moment there."

He laughed "that's kind of ador-" he cut himself off. "Ah I'm sorry, I don't even know you, I shouldn't say that kind of thing"

You both let out a small and awkward giggle and you start the makeup for this shoot.

You two make small talk and found out you actually have a lot in common (which you already knew because of the long time you have been a fan) which promted him to mention that he has actually seen some of your work because of a few friends who raved about shoots you happened to style.

You hadn't realised at the time, but during one of the first times you were scouted, you had actually picked an outfit for Chanyeol for one of the variety shows. (you knew you were picking for a higher name celebrity, but they hadn't disclosed any info about him).

Less time past then you hoped before the makeup was done and he had to go for his shoot.

You got to watch to make sure there were no wardrobe malfunctions, and EXO didn't let you down. These men were more perfect in person then any blog post or airport photo could have prepared you for.

The shoot wrapped up beautifully and you almost cried because you never thought this would be a thing in your life.

The sun had gone down at this point and due to the nature of this time of year, the weather followed suit and of course got colder.

"Whyyyyyyyy" you hear Chens voice as you all stepped outside. "It's so cold out! What happened?! It was so nice this afternoon!!" he does a little stomp "HYUNG! Gimme your coat!" he tugs on Suhos jacket.

"I told you to dress warmer Chen, you can't blame me for being cold!"

"Minseok whyyyyyyyyy?! Why are you making it cold??" Chen pokes his side and Minseok side-eyes him.

"Because I can?" he shrugs.

They get in their van and you put the garnmet bags in yours.

it wouldn’t take him long to bounce back and focus on the fact he was hurting you w his behaviour.

The perfect relief for the hot and humid summer weather, was this weekend trip to a ski resort with your boyfriend, his friends and your own friends. Only problem was, it wouldn’t stop raining. You all got in one late afternoon of skiing and snowboarding on the day you arrived, but even that was cut shorter than expected because of a sudden downpour. It had been steadily raining all through the night and morning, into the next afternoon. Where one could find you as you sat in the main room of the cabin with your friends and chatted away while playing cards. “I’m so hungry. When will the guys be back with that pizza?” Your friend Kaye asked as she tried to peek at you other friend Sohee’s hand. Sohee pushed Kaye’s head away and bent her cards towards her chest. “Hey!” Sohee exclaimed as she laughed. You shook your head at them. “Soon I hope. My stomach is starting to eat itself.” You commented as you eyes the pile on the table and then your friends. “One of you has the big joker right?” They both looked at you and then each other. Playing innocent and suspicious at the same time. Sohee’s eyes focused on on your face, “Are you trying to distract us? You have it don’t you?” You shook your head no. Lying. “Liar!” Kaye burst out and tried to grab your cards to see. You stood up and ran to the opposite side of the room half screaming half laughing as you all began to chase each other. You all began throwing pillows, plastic cups, anything you could lightly pick up and hurl at each other, cards still clenched in your hand. Just as the shrieking was at its pinnacle, your boyfriend, Jongdae came back with two boxes of boxes, fried chicken, and some beers. Holding the fried chicken was Baekhyun and holding the beers was Chanyeol. Kaye froze in mid toss of a paperback book from the shelf. Baekhyun took in the scene with hearty amusement. He stepped forward, “Leave you all alone for one minute and you start to tear the place apart!” Jongdae laughed as he approached you, moving the pizzas in his hand off to the side of his body and leaning in to kiss you. You kissed him back and whispered hi. “What is going on here?” He inquired with a smile on his face. “We’re playing cards.” You answered, Jongdae chuckled and took in the cabin’s mini disarray. “I don’t think I know this card game.” He set the boxes down on the table after pushing the abandoned cards off to the side. “Come on everybody. It’s best to eat pizza when it’s still hot.” Chanyeol and Baekhyun both nonchalantly vied for the sitting places closest to Sohee. While Sohee was trying to get as close to the food as possible. You had noticed they were practically chasing her since you arrived with her and Baekhyun, having met her before while you were all out drinking together, had expressed a muted interest without trying to be obvious. Chanyeol she had never met, and he had never met her, but he seemed to gravitate towards her the minute you all met up to leave for this trip and she didn’t seem to mind. You calculated in your mind how to play Cupid and reminded yourself to ask Sohee if she was interested in either one of them at all. As you contemplated and watched the tiny drama unfold around the living room table full of noise, you felt a pair of arms pull you backwards and onto the couch. Jongdae nuzzled into your neck now that you were comfortably seated on his lap with his arms around you. “What are you thinking about?” “How to play Cupid.” “You don’t have to play Cupid. I’ve already been hit by love’s arrow.” He lightly tickled your side. You giggled and shooed his hand away. “Not with you~~for Sohee.” Jongdae frowned on confusion. You turned around to face him, excited. In a low voice you whispered to him, “Has either Baekhyun or Chanyeol said anything to you about her?” “That’s she pretty.” “That’s it??” “What did you expect?? I didn’t ask them anything so what would they tell me?” Jongdae leaned around you and reached for a slice of pizza for you and chicken for himself. Keeping one hand on your waist throughout. You nudged him to keep his voice down and sucked your teeth and the not-so-helpful information. “Could you ask them then?” You pushed Jongdae’s hand from your face as you tried to feed you the slice of pizza. His lips puckered as he began to slightly frown again. “Why? They’re old enough to figure it out on their own aren’t they?” “Everyone could use a little help.” “You’re meddling like an old lady.” “I am not!” You exclaimed. Jongdae tried to feed you again now that your mouth was agape. You sputtered and shook your head. “Jongdae stop! I’m being serious! I think Sohee likes Chanyeol but I don’t know for sure and Baekhyun is the one who asked me to invite her up here-I don’t know if he asked for himself or- ” You stopped your hushed sentences short as you noticed your boyfriend’s visage. His eyebrows were knitted together and raised in disbelief. “What?” You asked him, confused by his facial expression. “If I agree to help you. Will you eat this pizza I’ve been holding for the last five minutes?” You looked down at the pizza in his hand. Noticed that his other hand was still settled on your hips, and that you had maneuvered your bottom off of his lap and onto the couch. He spoke again, bringing your attention back to his face, “I wish you’d pay as much attention to me as you are to this imaginary love triangle.” He muttered as he took a bite of the pizza you wouldn’t eat. You blinked at his statement. A bit annoyed and a bit sorry. You thought setting up your friend would be a new highlight of this weekend given that you were stuck indoors. But you figured that Jongdae had different, more personally romantic, ideas for this weekend all together. You twisted your body so that you were leaned into Jongdae’s seated form. You felt his smile as you leaned your head on his shoulder. He kissed your forehead. “You’re such a baby.” You playfully muttered as you picked up the pizza from his hand and fed yourself. You picked your head off of him to raise the slice to his mouth and let him have another bite. “Your baby.” He said as he winked at you. You felt your stomach flip and rolled your eyes fighting back a smile. At some point, everyone had finished eating and slipped off into the respective two rooms and took naps. You woke up first and shuffled out into the living room. Checking the time on your phone, it was only 6:25pm. You took a bottled water out of the fridge and chugged to get rid of the grogginess. Stretching your arms above your head you cracked your back and groaned. Exhaling deeply at the relief, you decided to sit in the bay window and maybe read. As you walked through the main room past the back of the couch, a hand shot up and grabbed your arm. You shrieked, recoiled, and starting slapping the hand all at the same time. Then you heard your boyfriend’s loud cackles. You practically threw yourself over the back of the couch to repeatedly hit him as he blocked himself with his arms, only his blonde hair covered head visible in your quest to get your revenge. ”Why! Would! You! Do! That!”  ”Because you scare so easily!” ”Oh my god!” You crumpled to the floor after the shock and made whining noises as you felt your heart not calming down. Jongdae uncoiled from his balled up position on the couch and leaned over the back of the couch to reach out to you.  ”Aww, my poor baby, come here.” You reached up and took his hand. He gently pulled you up to a standing position to face him as he kneeled on the couch. He stroked your face to calm you down, humming lightly and smiling lovingly at you. “There’s no reason to get scared, baby. You know nothing bad will happen to you while I’m around. You know that, right?” He lifted your head slightly to raise your eyes into his. You nodded as you made eye contact with him. Jongdae grinned, satisfied.  “Come sit with me.” He asked you as he gently pulled you around the couch.  “I was going to read by the window.” “Okay. We’ll sit by the window then.”  You lead him towards the window, Jongdae never letting go of your hand as you stopped at the small shelving area holding books that were already in the cabin. Jongdae moved to stand behind you, as you contemplated what to read, and began braiding your hair which had come semi-loose from its original french braids while you slept. “What are you doing?” You asked, only feeling very light tugging on your head. “Rebraiding your hair…” Jongdae answered innocently and softly. He sounded adorable you couldn’t help but chuckle.  “I forgot you know how to do that.” “I watched you do it enough. It was easier than I thought…” He mumbled as he concentrated. You told him to wait and picked your book before seating yourselves in the window. You turned your back to him. “Okay, you can continue.” You smiled to yourself. Jongdae sat behind you and began braiding again as you cracked open your book. The feeling of his hands tentatively re-braiding your hair, apologizing when his fingers would stumble over themselves, was somehow relaxing. After a small while longer, you felt his hands stop and settle on both sides of your head. Turning it slightly side to side to presumably check out his work. You heard him exhale proudly. “There.” He stated. You reached up and around and felt around. it felt okay. He had worked so diligently you assumed it wouldn’t look bad either. You smiled over your shoulder and thanked him. He paused for a split second when you turned around before catching your chin in his hand before you could turn back around, “What?” You asked, a bit surprised at his sudden seriousness. “Gimme a kiss.” Jongdae finally said. You obliged, your lips meeting in a sweet peck. Jongdae smiled as he pulled back, eyes still closed, he whispered “I’m crazy about you.” He leaned against your forehead before leaning back altogether and leaning against the bay window sill and watching the rain fall. You bit your lip trying to no smile as hard as you wanted to and turned back to your book. Jongdae positioned his legs to let you easily lean back against him as if he were your personal pillow.  After while of solitude and quiet conversation between the pages of your reading, both of your friends began to file into the main room one and two at a time, until you were all present and the cabin was lively once again.

An hour or so passed and you and Jongdae had migrated over in front of the television with everyone else. During the movie’s commercial break Jongdae had begun whispering to you about sneaking off tonight for a late night walk if the rain stopped. You agreed just before you all got interrupted. “Hey lovebirds!” Chanyeol’s voice broke through your tiny universe, “we’ve all decided to play hide and seek. You two in?” Jongdae’s face lit up. “I haven’t played that game in so long! I’m in!” You nodded. “Me too.” Kaye volunteered to be ‘it’ for the first round. Sohee blindfolded her and you began spinning her around ten times before running away on the last spin. Kaye wobbled and staggered to the floor. You all held your laughs as you tried to squeeze yourselves into ridiculous places. After Kaye caught a lamp stand, a throw pillow, and tossed shoe, she exclaimed, “Alright! Clap!” You all hesitantly clapped. Sohee most of all. Kaye was not too far from her. Baekhyun stifled laughter and Chanyeol as well. Then, as Kaye’s arms dangled around the air too close to Sohee, Chanyeol pushed at the table he was hiding under causing Kaye to rethink her positioning and turn away from Sohee’s position to find the errant noise and the person causing it. Sohee’s hands flew to her mouth as she half gasped in relief and half suppressed her own laughter.  You all played five more rounds, Kaye ending up being “it” twice after getting caught, before Jongdae caught you; at which everyone ew’d because he claimed he found you by your scent-taking a deep inhale in the crook of your neck before taking his blindfold off. Then it was your turn and you almost broke a vase swinging your arms around too excitedly. You all cracked up as you all decided you had better suspend the game. You noted to yourself that Chanyeol didn’t try to save anyone else the rest of the game. Often making noises to get others caught, instead. Unless the tagger got too close to Sohee. In fact, he was only it the turn before Jongdae because he had gave himself up after seeing her cower in the corner trying not to get found by Baekhyun’s determined hands. Also noticing Chanyeol’s knightly behavior during the game, Jongdae came up to you briskly and whispered, “You saw that right?” “Oh, so now you’re interested?” You teased and poked his nose. Jongdae pretended to bite at your finger. You pulled your hand back and he took it as it dropped to your side and played with your fingers between your bodies. “He’s being so obvious.” “What about Baekhyun?” “I don’t think he cares. I’ll bring it up to him first–”As Jongdae was talking, something behind him caught your eye. Your eyes widened as you watched the scene unfold quicker than you imagined. “Looklooklooklooklook!” You told your boyfriend. Jongdae looked over his shoulder and saw the tail end of Baekhyun leading Chanyeol over to Sohee, who was relaxing at the big bay window with Kaye. Baekhyun then looked to excuse himself after setting an uproarious mood between the remaining three. Kaye awkwardly announced she was still hungry and decided she would take a walk into town for snacks. Leaving Sohee and Chanyeol shyly smiling at each other and softly talking. Chanyeol’s innocent eyes trying not to stare at her everytime she looked away and rubbing the back of his head when she looked up at him and asked him anything. Jongdae turned back to you with a smile on his face. “I told you they’d figure it out.” He commented. You rolled your eyes. “Oh please.” *********************************************** Hello my Marshmallows!!  Chen bleached his hair for the first time and so clearly I had to show him some fluff love! Story Title: (4/5)

The title is nice and simple but descriptive. At first glance, we will know that this story will be something fluffy and romance. When I looked at your tags, I knew right away that I was right. To me, the title is interesting. I'd totally click on your story if I was looking for a romantic story to read because I'm one of those people who likes short and meaningful titles. However, I'm not sure how other people would think. If you search the title 'Mine' on AFF, lots of stories will pop up. It's pretty common and overused. This doesn't really help your story to stand out.

Foreword and Description: (12/15)

Your description is very interesting. It doesn't give away too much and has a firm base to give the readers interested. Also the mention of Jongdae is a married man really creates the curiosity to how the story will go. I think it would make people want to check your story out because personally it really intrigued me to find out more about your story. Your foreword, however, shouldn't be just an author's note in my opinion but also an excerpt or an introduction of your story to draw the readers in more.

Readability: (14/15)

I can read your story well as your paragraphing is nice and neat. I like the fact that you're writing your story in present tense, because I prefer to read and write stories in present tense. You had a few spelling and grammar mistakes here and there but I brushed them off as typos since you didn't repeat them. I didn't notice them when I started but I did after reading your story for the second time. Just make sure to check your chapters a few times before posting them. 

Characterization: (13/15)

I had a little trouble with this part because I was not really fond of the characters you're creating. Jongdae is my ultimate bias but somehow his character is the one I disliked the most. And Suyeon too. But that's just my personal opinion. It will not affect my scoring or review on your story so don't worry.

Your story is still on-going, but I think that you portrayed your characters really well, even the minors. I also find them believable, especially Suyeon when she slowly opened up to Jongdae. We know that she hesitated at first because of the fact that Jongdae is married but the constant affection that the man kept giving her caused her to give in and admitted her feelings to him. I believe this can happen in real life because women tend to fall in love with a guy who shows their love and not hide it. And that's what Jongdae did. He showed his true feelings for Suyeon without giving up. I think that's enough reason for Suyeon to fall in love with Jongdae even though she knows he's not a single man.

The only problem is Hyemi's character. You did write a chapter about why she's cheating on Jongdae but somehow I feel like there's something more to her that's missing in the story. Questions like, "Why is she still with Jongdae when she has Jongin" and "Why she lied to Jongdae about having his baby" kept playing in my mind when I was reading your story. And most importantly, does she still love Jongdae or not? I kinda need an explanation on that. Therefore, I think you need to elaborate more about Hyemi's character though she's just a minor because from what I've seen so far, she plays a big part in your story.

Other than that, I also like to talk about Minseok, Joonmyeon and Baekhyun. I like how you portrayed them. When we read the story, we can see that they have two sides. They are kind and caring but at the same time playful and mischievous. The way they set up everything between Jongdae and Suyeon and how they care about the two main characters really entertained me in a way. I honestly think you did a great job in developing and portraying these three boys.  

Originality: (14/15)

This story isn't one of a kind but it's not something very common and with the context it's fun to follow. I'm not gonna say the story sticks to you very strong and it's not like it doesn't remind you a little bit of something else but the way it's going right now, it seems to be heading to an interesting direction. 

Plotline: (22/25)

I'm not a fan of the plot but I gotta say it's really exciting and fun. There's a lot of things happening in the story but there are a few chapters that I found quite bland and unnecessary. What I meant to say is there are events in your story that didn't really help the development of the plot. I know it's not easy to plan out a whole storyline perfectly because I do have problems with that too when I write but every scene needs to be thought out carefully so that it's not just out in there.

Structure: (9/10)

The flow went a little too fast at first, especially on how Jongdae fell in love with Suyeon but after a few chapters everything flowed very well and steady, so good job. Your writing style is also nice. It definitely matches your story; it's light, sweet and simple. I think your structure is perfect, I have nothing to complain about.
