Rhys and Lucien had a thing in the past
And I'll prove it to you now:
The first evidences are in ACOTAR, the book which we get more about Lucien's character:
Rhysand smiled—heartbreaking in its beauty—and put a hand on his chest. “Rhysand? Come now, Tamlin. I don’t see you for forty-nine years, and you start calling me Rhysand? Only my prisoners and my enemies call me that.” His grin widened as he finished, and something in his countenance turned feral and deadly, more so than I’d ever seen Tamlin look. Rhysand turned, and I held my breath as he ran an eye over Lucien. “A fox mask. Appropriate for you, Lucien.”
“Go to Hell, Rhys,” Lucien snapped.
ACOTAR, Chap 26
How does Rhysand know about a fox mask being appropriated for Lucien if he didn't know him?
"Oh, but people know that Lucien is from the Autumn Court and the Autumn Court is known for being foxy" Yes, but they are just rumors and a stereotype. Lucien could had been born dumb and people would still read him as foxy. So the only option is that Rhys knows Lucien. But why?
The other thing I highlighted: Lucien called the Night Lord as Rhys. Rhys, not Rhysand as his enemies and prisoners call him.
What does this mean? This means that Lucien considers Rhys as something less then enemy, but too hateful to be considered friend. What does the situation remind you, dear reader? Ex-lovers? Yes, I thought about that too!! But then you tell me "No, you're being dumb it doesn't necessarely mean that. Lucien would prefer to obey and respect someone who's known to be powerful and deadly, he's smart" Really? Did he think about it when he cursed Amarantha? So, I think you can agree with me about the ex-lovers thing, right?
Now, again in ACOTAR
“Her whore I might be, but not without my reasons.” I flinched as his voice whetted itself into an edge. “At least I haven’t bided my time among the hedges and flowers while the world has gone to Hell.”
Lucien’s sword rose slightly. “If you think that’s all I’ve been doing, you’ll soon learn otherwise.”
“Little Lucien. You certainly gave them something to talk about when you switched to Spring. Such a sad thing, to see your lovely mother in perpetual mourning over losing you.”
ACOTAR, Chap 26
How the hell does Rhys know about Lucien's time among the hedges and flowers?
Dark boy was locked Under the Mountain, the question here is not exactly who Rhys knows about Lucien doing that in that time. The question is: how does Rhys know about this trait of Lucien? It's not something that someone would bring up like this. He knows that Lucien has this "habit".
Little Lucien
This one kills any set-off. I don't know you, but if I call someone like this there are this only option:
The person has a special place in my life to deserve a nickname
And by special I don't necessarily mean as a lover or a friend. If you want to take it this way you can, of course. But by special I mean that it took something from Rhys to call Lucien like that and, imo, it was probably the time spent together, even more if you consider all other topics of this post. It's very open, tho, but something we can't deny: it's special.
Rhysand’s face became a mask of calm fury as he stared and stared at me. “I remember you,” he purred. “It seems like you ignored my warning to stay out of trouble.” He turned to Tamlin. “Who, pray tell, is your guest?”
“My betrothed,” Lucien answered.
“Oh? Here I was, thinking you still mourned your commoner lover after all these centuries,” Rhysand said, stalking toward me. The sunlight didn’t gleam on the metallic threads of his tunic, as if it balked from the darkness pulsing from him.
ACOTAR, Chap 26
Rhys knows that Lucien took a good time to mourn over Jesminda
And knowing Lucien's profile this's not something he would show that easy. He's proud, foxy, he knows how to play the game. Sure, he could had been a crap in the fews years after her death, but the way Rhys said it, using the word "still", implies that fiery boy was in a really bad situation. Maybe Rhysand was helping him with it? With sex, I mean, sex can be a cope mechanism.
Rhysand’s venom-coated smile grew. “You draw blood from me, Lucien, and you’ll learn how quickly Amarantha’s whore can make the entire Autumn Court bleed. Especially its darling Lady.”
The color leeched from Lucien’s face, but he held his ground. It was Tamlin who answered. “Put your sword down, Lucien.”
ACOTAR, Chap 26
How does Rhys know about the Lady of Lucien's weak point (LoA)?
Lucien is no fool, he would not scream about missing his mum after leaving the Autumn Court. Rhys knows Lucien enough to discover (see, here I say discover, because again; Lucien is no fool) how important Lucien's mother is. But then you say, again; "Oh, but it's obvious that someone's weakness would be their mother" Is it really? Look how fucked up is the Autumn Court, people can take every bad interpretations of that place.
Lucien did not bother to hide the slight curling of his lip.
As if he could see the mating bond glowing between Rhys and me.
ACOWAR, Chap 15
This one sounds delusional, but it's a genuine question, just pictury this for fun: Was Lucien jealous?
And since we are being crazy... Lucien and Feyre had a lot of chemistry in ACOTAR. Mates are known to be equal in every aspect. Something in Feyre attracted Lucien as well as something in Rhysand. Feyre and Rhysand are mates, they share some equal aspects. 2+2=4 ;)
Anyways, the evidences are there, guys, we just need to open our eyes to them.
