âYou give terrible dating advice,â Simon said. He had just barged into Magnusâs apartment and found Jace lying down in the spare bedroom. He couldnât believe he embarrassed himself in front of Maia like that. And it was all because of Jace. How stupid could he have been?
Simon goes to yell at Jace about his terrible dating advice and gets more than he ever imagined he would.
âYou give terrible dating advice,â Simon said. He had just barged into Magnusâs apartment and found Jace lying down in the spare bedroom. He couldnât believe he embarrassed himself in front of Maia like that. And it was all because of Jace. How stupid could he have been?
âWhat?â Jace asked, rubbing his eyes. It was clear he was recently sleeping, or napping, and his voice was groggy.
âDid you purposefully try to sabotage my date with Maia? I should have never listened to you.â Jace was now more alert and sat up on the bed.
âNo, of course not. I was trying to help you.â âHelp me? She hardly wanted anything to do with me!â
âI donât know, maybe you were doing it wrong. You know what? I should really go and get a glass of water-â
âNo,â Simon barred Jace from exiting. âYou basically told me to change everything about myself. That I couldnât be myself and get girls.â
âWellâŠâ Jace shrugged.
âWell what?
âI was showing you what works for meâŠâ
âAnd?â
âIt was stupid of me to do that okay?â Simon wasnât expecting that. His plan was to yell at Jace and then leave but this was a more than pleasant surprise.
âYou donât have to change yourself to get a girl, I just...I wanted to feel like I could do something, anything again,â Jace admitted.
âAgain?â
âI was essentially kicked out of The Institute.â
âOh,â Simon said quietly. He did not know how else to respond. What The Institute meant for Jace and what it meant for Simon were two completely different things.
âThatâs why Iâm at Magnusâs. Wait how did you know I was here?â
âIâm banned from The Institute too, remember? I figured the second place youâd be would be here.â
âThatâs right. No Downworlders allowed,â Jace sat back down on the bed. Guess he had forgotten all about his glass of water. âI uh...Iâm sorry you couldn't come to Jocelynâs funeral.â Simon felt a lump in his throat. The wound of losing her was still fresh and he couldnât help but think of Luke, who at the time was dealing with his grief alone in the woods.
âMaybe I shouldnât have brought that up-â
âNo, no, itâs fine. Tell me about it. Iâve never gone to a Shadowhunter funeral.â
âItâs...itâs a beautiful ceremony. Everyone wears white. You say the name of the person who has fallen and light moves from the bodies to the sky. There are ritual words spoken andâŠSorry Iâm not really that good at explaining it.â
âNo, you did great. Iâm sure it was beautiful.â Simon felt far away, as if he actually was there with Clary. He thought about all of the times Jocelyn was like a second mother to him. He still couldnât believe she was actually gone. Jaceâs hand on his shoulder brought him back to the present.
âYou know if you need someone to talk to about it...â Jace looked visibly uncomfortable.
âYou donât have to offer because you feel bad, itâs okay,â Simon forced himself to meet Jaceâs eyes and smile.
âNo, I mean it. Iâm just...not good in these kind of situations.â Jace sighed and tried to explain. âWhen youâre a Shadowhunter, youâre taught that emotions-â âAre nothing more than distractions, I know that one.â âAnd what Iâve learned is that...they exist and yeah maybe they can be a distraction but they can also be a strength.â
âSeems like Clary has rubbed off on you,â Simon was oddly proud of Jace in a way he couldnât quite comprehend. âSo is this leading up to a big speech or something? You arenât usually thisâŠ-â
âThoughtful? Having your life turned around does that to you. When I was first sent to The City of Bones, all I could do was think. They...get into your thoughts and that was all I could do. And this isnât leading up to a big speech, I just...I wasnât trying to set you up to fail or anything earlier. I was frustrated and I want to be good at something. I really did mean it when I said you could talk to be about...whatever. Iâve been a dick to you in the past but...weâre gonna have to stick together, right?â Jace looked completely hopefully and wowâŠ
âRight. So how is it I get a girl again?â This made Jace genuinely laugh and Simon couldnât help but laugh along with him.
âThatâs a topic weâre never gonna talk about again.â
âAnd if I were to ask how to get a guy?â Did he really actually say that? It just slipped out of his mouth. Why was he like this?
âWhat?â Jace was giving him a look, like he was looking at Simon with fresh new eyes.
âWhat.â Play dumb, Simon.
âYou just said-â
âI said nothing.â This is going well. Jace finally decided to drop it. The silence stretched out between them. âI should probably get going. Itâs late and I need to be back before the sun starts to come out again.â
âYou could stay here. If thatâs easier for you.â Did Jace just?
âThis is technically Magnusâs house and-â
âWerenât you basically living here like what- two weeks ago? Iâm sure he wouldnât mind.â Why was he being so insistent? âItâs totally up to you, I just thought it might be easier if you didnât have to race against the clock.â Simon looked at his phone and damn it was really late.
âI didnât realize how late it was.â
âYou didnât exactly come here early.â
âSorry.â The last thing Simon was thinking about when he came to yell at Jace was the time. And maybe he could stay. Jace seemed happy at the prospect and why not make him feel better after the mess that happened. âIâll stay if thatâs alright.â Simon was entering new territory and he felt it.
âCool,â Jace said, smiling. His eyes slid down to Simonâs outfit.
âOh, I uh. Iâm still wearing my dress clothes.â He knows that, SimonâŠ
âWear this,â Jace reached into a bedside drawer and threw a black t-shirt and trackpants combo at him.
âDo you only own black clothes?â Simon wondered.
âYup. Go change.â Simon went to the door to find a bathroom to change in when he heard Jace. âWhere are you going?â
âTo change?â Simon looked at Jace like he had three heads. Hadnât Jace literally told him five seconds ago to go change?
âI donât mind,â Jace said, gesturing towards him. âI wonât look.â He took out a magazine and began to leaf through itâs pages. Where did that come from? Simon felt a little self conscious but he wasnât about to leave now. He undressed and redressed as quickly as possible. The clothes were tight in some places and loose in others, but he still was pretty comfortable.
âSo is this like...a sleepover?â Sleepover? Really? Was he five again? Jace looked up from his magazine.
âA sleepover?â
âYou know, the thing were you invite your friend or friends over and you do stupid stuff and stay up the whole night?â
âSimon, I know what a sleepover is. Iâve never had one, but Iâm aware of the concept.â
âOh. Well theyâre kinda overrated anyway.â
âThis is whatever you want it to be.â
âBut you were the one who invited me so I thought it would be appropriate to ask you.â
âItâs up to you, buddy.â Did Jace just call him buddy? It had never ever been up to him. Clary had always orchestrated all of their plans. He didnât mind it, and he was used to it. It was foreign for him to make plans. Is that what this was? Making plans? With Jace? Who, just a few hours ago, had given him terrible dating advice?
âItâs never been up to me before. I...I donât know. What do you want?â
âSimon,â Jace laughed. âYou can speak your mind. Iâm fine with anything. Honestly.â
âHonestly?â The wheels in Simonâs head were turning. It had to be something Clary would never agree to.
âHonestly. I promise.â Simon thought long and hard and there was that one thing.
âIâve always wanted to marathon all of the Harry Potter movies.â He was proving himself to be a bigger nerd, wasnât he?
âHarry Potter?â
âThe guy with the glasses and the scar? The wizarding world-â
âIâm just pulling your leg. I know who Harry Potter is.â
âSo...youâre okay with it?â
âSure! Yeah. Do you have the DVDs?â
âContrary to popular belief, I do not carry movies around with me all of the time. But there are websites.â Jace pulled out his laptop.
âIf you accidentally download a virus, I swear.â
âDonât worry. Iâm experienced.â Where the hell did that come from, Simon? He awkwardly took the laptop from Jace and tried to balance it on his lap in a weird crouched position.
âSimon,â Jace patted a spot next to him on the bed. Simon didnât think and plopped himself and the laptop on the bed.
âWhatâs the password?â Jace took the computer from him and shielded it in such a way that Simon wouldnât see the password.
âWouldnât want you breaking into my computer or anything like that.â
âWhy would I ever?â
âI donât know Simon but you told me you were very experienced in websites,â Jace said the last part with air-quotes.
âThatâs not what I meant. At all. Give me back the laptop.â
âGetting greedy now, arenât you?â
âJace,â Simon held out his hands. It didnât take too long to find the first Harry Potter film. He found out pretty quickly Jace had a different movie watching style from his. Jace liked to comment on everything, from the hat one woman wore in the first five minutes, âThat seems a little impractical, doesnât it?â to the spell Harry was using in the middle, âNow is this the most effective spell to use? Iâd love to see Harry as a Shadowhunter, see how well heâd do.â
âJace!â Simon exclaimed. Simon was the type to remain completely silent during movies. He liked to completely direct his attention onto the action and escape. âCan we just watch the movie and not comment on it?â
âOkay, I just figured-â
âWell you figured wrong. Now letâs see what happens with Dumbledore.â It wasnât a surprise as to what happened, but Simon liked to pretend he forgot. It was more fun that way. They were on the third movie when Jace started to drift off.
âJace,â Simon whispered.
âWhat? Oh,â Jace fixed his sleepy eyes on the laptop screen again.
âHarry is about to find out about Sirius!â Simon knew this was going to happen, it was one of the reasons that Clary never agreed to do this marathon with him. There were eight movies to get through. Nothing made Simon sadder than finishing a movie by himself. He remembered nudging Clary awake to the very end of almost every movie marathon they had. Then again, those marathons usually only consisted of three movies at most. Not really a marathon, but Clary knew how Simon felt about finishing movies by himself.
It was during the fourth movie that Jace began fading fast, meaning that he couldnât keep his eyes open for more than 30 seconds at a time. At this point it was nearly morning and Simon couldnât blame him for falling asleep. He felt weight on his shoulder and saw Jaceâs head resting there. He looked so peaceful when he was sleeping. Simon almost felt a need to brush a stray hair off of his face but he stopped himself. As unique as the situation was, Simon liked that Jace was resting on him. Whereas before it was unpleasant when someone fell asleep during a movie marathon, Simon felt comforted. He felt like âthe chosen one.â Simon started drifting soon after and for once he didnât stop himself.
âWhat the hell?â Simon and Jace awoke with a start to the sound of Alecâs voice. Magnus appeared by Alecâs side in an instant.
âSimon. Wasnât expecting you here,â Magnus said, clearly surprised.
âYeah, Iâm sorry I didnât ask you if I could..well...yeah...I,â Simon closed the still open laptop and handed it to Jace. âI should really..â Simon grabbed his fancy clothing he wore the night before and headed toward the nearest bathroom. The walls were thinner than he thought because he heard every word that was being said.
âSimon? The other day you had a random lady in bed and now Simon?â Alec asked. A random lady?
âThatâs not what this was! Simon wasnât here toâŠâ
âYou canât even say it can you?â
âIâll leave you two alone,â Magnus said. Jace let out an exaggerated sigh.
âWhat is this, huh? You really like playing around with people, donât you?â
âWhat? Thatâs not what Iâm doing.â
âJace. Itâs obvious thatâŠâ
âThat what? What am I not getting, Alec?â
âSimon likes you Jace,â Alec said in a loud whisper. What?
âWhat?â Jace said.
âAnd you literally slept with him!â
âYeah literally slept, but wait what do you mean? Simon doesnâtâŠâ Is that really what everyone thinks? He doesnât like Jace like that! Hell- he didnât even know he liked Jace at all until last night.
âClary told meâ Clary? What does she have to do with all of this? âThat...I donât know, she had this theory.â
âTheory? And since when were you friends with Clary? Did you come in here just to make me feel like shit? First you tell me itâs obvious and then you tell me itâs a theory?â
âIt was a very convincing theory. And Clary decided to come to me because well, you know. You were acting all sorts of different before and I figured you had a motive with Simon too. I wanted to see if you were being a dick or not.â
âNo, I wasnât being a dick, Alec. Simon did mention something about how to get guys or something but I donât know it was weird.â So he hadnât dreamt up that exchange. Great.
âClaryâs theory may have a hint of truth in it thenâŠâ
âAlec,â Jace said in warning.
âAlright, Iâm going. Donât sleep with anyone while Iâm gone.â Simon gulped and was even more nervous than before. What did Jace think of him now? And Clary and her theory? He quickly changed and went back into the room where Jace was half changed out of his shirt.
âSorry!â Simon quickly closed the door. What kind of person changed with the door cracked open?
âIâm fully dressed now, donât worry.â Seeing Jace now made his palms sweat. He tried to focus on the floor, and anything but Jaceâs eyes. âSimon? You okay?â
âYeah. I should actually get going now.â
âSimon. Weâre cool right? Thereâs nothing you need to tell me?â Oh god. He should have known this was coming. Clary and her goddamned theories.
âNo. Thereâs something I need to ask you though.â He was going for it. Jace was surprised but he went with it.
âAsk away.â
âWhy did you invite me to stay over last night? Were you just trying to be nice? Did you feel bad for me? Why did you do it?â Simon suddenly had the courage to look Jace right in his eyes. Jace struggled to respond.
âItâs complicated. Well, no, it actually isnât. I havenât had...Iâve never had a friend before? Like an honest-to-god friend. Not a fighting partner or mission buddy. Thatâs all business. I do have Izzy and Alec but...you know nothing about me. And I know that should be scary but...for once itâs good. I never got to do stuff like this- movie marathons and âsleepovers.â Itâs stupid, I know-â âNo thatâs not stupid at all. I havenât had any new friends in such a long time. When youâre friends with Clary it takes up most of your time.â
âSounds accurate.â
âAnd I do know something about you.â
âYes?â
âYou like to talk during movies.â
âYouâre gonna have to deal with it when we do this again, thatâs just how I am.â When?
âThis wasnât a one time thing,â Simon said, testing the waters.
âIs that okay with you?â
âIâd love to do this again. Just- donât fall asleep.â
âYou fell asleep yourself!â
âOnly after you decided to fall asleep on my shoulder.â Thatâs right. What did it look like to Alec, seeing the two of them resting heads together with a laptop in front of them? And now heâs reminded of their whole conversation.
âAbout that. Iâm going to say it now, so itâs out in the open.â Oh god. âI donât want to lead you on or anything, I really donât and-â
âClary and her goddamned theories.â He couldnât last listening to Jace like this.
âYou heardâŠâ Simon nodded. âEverything?â
âYeah, I heard everything. You must think Iâm pathetic or something. For the record, no, I donât like you that way and I donât know why Clary was saying all of that but sheâs wrong and I donât know why Alec had to get involved-â
âSo you donât like me...like that,â Jace said slowly.
âThatâs what Iâve been trying to tell you!â
âOkay.â Thatâs it? Okay? âYou also donât want me to give you dating advice when it comes to guys right?â
âNo!â Simon had never felt so embarrassed and he wished he could just evaporate.
âI just wanted to straighten things out between us.â
âStraighten. Ha. What makes you feel qualified to give me dating advice about guys anyway?â He was feeling defensive and god, he wanted to shove something in Jaceâs face. He was tired of always feeling lesser than and like the one being played on.
âI donât feel qualified, I...it canât be that different. You were the one who brought it up in the first place,â Jace was uncomfortable and Simon was reveling in it.
âFor your information, it is different, completely different. In fact, thereâs a whole new guidebook for it, and only select people can get a hold of and-â He didnât even know what he was talking about anymore, he was saying whatever he could think of.
âWhy are you getting so defensive?â
âIâm not defensive,â Simon said, crossing his arms.
âSimon, you...The second I told you Iâm not trying to lead you on you got defensive and I donât know what it is. I donât know what I did wrong.â Now Simon felt bad.
âYou didnât do anything wrong. Itâs that...When you and Alec were talking about me before, I felt I donât know..less than? Like a child? âDonât hurt Simonâs feelings!â âSimon likes youâ It was so out of my control and I donât want to feel like a toy or a porcelain doll or whatever.â
âYouâre not any of those things, and I donât want to make you feel that way. Simon, youâre enough as you are. Alec and I shouldnât have talked about you, that was wrong. And even if you were to have feelings for me, there would be no power imbalance. It wouldnât matter. I swear.â Simon was overwhelmed by Jaceâs words. It had been a long time since someone had told him something like that. âSimon?â
âThanks for that. Iâm sorry about before, I didnât mean it. Can we just forget all of what happened this morning?â
âIâd like that.â
âWant to finish our Harry Potter marathon?â
âAre you serious?â
âWe were almost halfway! Plus I canât go anywhere right now, with it being midday.â
âFirst, food. Or blood, in your case.â They did end up finishing their marathon, to Simonâs delight. He even let Jace comment for some of the movies. Simon had started off coming to Magnusâs to yell at Jace, and instead he had gained a, hopefully, solid friendship. Where that would take them, Simon didnât know but he was ready for the ride. He had yet to talk to Clary about her supposed theory, but after spending most of a weekend with Jace he couldnât help but go back to it. What did she see that he didnât? How did he act around Jace that differed from everyone else? As he began to question and question he was reminded of Jaceâs head on his shoulder and his smile and his devotion to watching the marathon and honestly he was thinking too much of Jace. Maybe he was in for more of a bumpy ride than he thought.

And since we're talking about it, why does nobody think it's strange that N went out of her way, TWICE, to discount season two with her little jokes? One was that joke at Tudum and then when she said she didn't tell anyone about s3 being about Pollen because it would overshadow s2.
Then she goes and gets emotional because the show is so diverse? It's all a bunch of BS
Related to this post and I have a whole anti tag dedicated to this topic
I can't remember if I talked about it here on the blog but I've discussed Tudum with my friends a lot. It was the first time my perception of Nicola completely changed to be honest. Like with the Rege tweets I gave her the benefit of the doubt.
But the moment the words "The most anticipated couple of the series Kathony aside from Polin. It's on the card I swear!" Left her mouth I was like What the actual fuck??
Like I do not give a shit if it was on the card Nicola, be polite and don't say it out loud Jesus. The way she played it off too. Like literally whose season is it?? Not fucking yours. I think now that moment is even worse because she knew S3 was Polin by then because she knew when S2 was in it's second week of filming.
She was literally rubbing it in Jimone's faces and us even if we didn't know it at the time. And honestly Polenta was the second most anticipated within book fans pre-S1 but now no one except the loud minority that for some reason still likes those racist show asshats are the only ones who want it. Like the GA doesn't give a fuck and the rest of the fandom either doesn't care, is tired of them or are pissed as hell.
Like literally no one of importance is anticipating it anymore. Whereas on the other hand, Kathony broke numbers, they constantly trend and get the most engagement on their posts. We love to see them winning!!
I just recently learnt of the other two incidents and actually a couple of my mutuals have talked about it - they just don't tag the main tag sjjsjsj so if they wanna reveal themselves can do so in the notes.
Since then I've talked about it alot but the "i LeT tHeM haVE tHEiR TiMe tO sHInE" excuse is SUCH BULLSHIT. You don't get to say that N.
Not when you knew how much time your useless side plots with barely any bearings on the main story had. I talked about it in this ask but the Featherflops took up a WHOLE FUCKING HOUR of the show. That's one whole fucking episode dedicated to these useless characters that contributed nothing to the main plot and did nothing to move the main romance and story.
Not when you kept giggling about how LW/Pennywise get up to sO mAnY cOOL tHiNGs. Yes because ruining her best friend's life is SUCH A GIRLBOSS MOMENT. Well I guess it is a girlboss (derogatory) moment.
You definitely DO NOT GET TO CRY ABOUT THE SHOW'S DIVERSITY, not when you set the tone for how Marina and eventually Ruby Barker was treated Post S1 (this was brought to my attention yesterday by another ask I'll be answering shortly). Still even now I know friends and blogs who have gotten racial slurs and misogynistic comments in their ask box for defending Marina. I honestly am glad I didn't watch the KC interview I just know I would have thrown my phone seeing her fake ass cry. I'm so tired of her being performative and shady. Like stop the fake niceties. I don't give a fuck Nicola just grow up and be professional about your costars. It's literally your job, not high school.
People are talking about this albeit more privately because her stans can be rabid and will be aggressive with their anon hate in your asks. I'm talking about all these issues again because I have no fucks left to give and I'm very block button trigger happy ksnskkss. They've already called me the worst names what else is left đđ

My contribution for @ficletinstrumentsâ Week 12 âMisperceptionâ
Impossible? Impossible is Jace's middle name. Maybe. Simon disagrees.
Jimon, Rated G
Originally posted on AO3
âItâs not possible! I donât care what you say. Which of us is the expert here?â Simonâs rant had been going for twenty minutes, set off by an innocent comment from Jace. âThere is no way you did that. Angel blood or not, it is impossible.â
-
Clary snickered from her seat and quickly buried her face against her girlfriendâs neck when Simon turned his glare on her. She knew better than to fight him when he got like this. Izzy wrapped her arm around Claryâs shoulders but didnât look away, amused by the whole argument.
-
âHow is it impossible if I did it?â Jace asked. âI mean, obviously a lot of things about me should be impossible, my stunning good looks included, but in this case, Iâm telling you that I did it. I donât see why you don't believe me.â
-
Alec felt fairly certain Jace was taunting him on purpose if the amusement coming through their bond was any indication. Jace did that kind of thing to them all. Often.
-
âYou donât even know what it is! I bet youâve never even seen the Rainbow Road before!â
-
âIâve always preferred the Bi-pass myself,â Magnus chimed in, earning a high five from Izzy and peels of laughter from Clary and Alec. Simon and Jace glared at him for the interruption before returning to their argument.
Alec whispered, âI thought you were funny, Magnus.â
âAnd this is why youâre my favorite, darling.â
-
âFine! Prove it! Show me, right now!â
âRight now? In front of everyone? Way to put me on the spot there, Simon!â
âItâs because you canât do it and now everyone will know it!â
Jace, never one to back down from a challenge, jumped up and was nose to nose with his boyfriend in a heartbeat. âOh, itâs on! Youâre going to wish you never said that.â
Everything was set up, bets were met, and soon they were all enthralled in the competition. Most people bet on Simon, arguably the expert in this particular arena, but Alec knew Jace better than anyone and put his money on his parabatai, earning some good-natured teasing from Magnus about who would be buying who dinner.
âThere! I told you! I told you it was possible!â
-
âHuh,â they all muttered, staring at the result. âWould you look at that.â
Jace held up his hands in triumph. âAlright, pay up! I told you it was possible to get a car stuck in a tree in MarioKart!â
Simon handed him his money. âJace Herondale, master of the impossible.â
With a smirk that came as a warning to anyone who knew him, Jace shrugged. âWell, I fell in love with you didnât I? If I can do that, I can do anything.â
âHow dare you!â Simon called, chasing his boyfriend out of the loft while the rest stared in horrified silence.
-
âAnyone else wish they wouldnât include us in their foreplay?â Magnus asked. Three hands shot straight up in the air. âSo, drinks?â
