okay maybe this one's a bit of strech and i'm just trying to find something that isn't there or maybe i'm pointing out the obvious but it's still so interesting to think about

each one of the guy's numbers include some sort of alteration to their costume (noel's lingere, mischa's wedding attire, ricky's idon'tknowwhattocallit), the closest we get to that with any of the girls is constance letting her hair down

ocean didn't need to since she was clearly already very sure of herself, jane doe had no idea who she was, a blank slate, and by the time her number came around constance was all for accepting who she was. but the guys? in their lives they all hid behind some sort of cover-up for the way they actually saw themselves/wanted to be because there was always something stopping them (noel's mother + the fact he was the only queer kid in uranium, mischa's home life + his mother's supposed death, and ricky being patronized and babied because of his disability) from being their real, authentic selves.
