This is a reminder to everyone who's excited about RDJ's casting as Doctor Doom that this casting is whitewashing. Victor Von Doom is a Romani character and has been a Romani character since his introduction in the 1960s. (Fantastic Four Annual #2 [1964]) Not only that, but his Roma identity and the persecution he and his family faced due to it is integral to his character, it is what forms his identity. (Books of Doom by Ed Brubaker) Even if on the off chance this casting is meant to not be Victor but instead be some variant of Tony or whomever else becoming Doctor Doom, it is damaging to the character to rob him of that important cultural background. Doctor Doom does not exist without that history. Fans have been pushing hard to cast Doom as a Romani actor for years, especially since the MCU has whitewashed other Romani characters. (Wanda, Pietro, etc) This casting is not a celebration moment, it's fucking heartbreaking that the MCU repeatedly ignores the important and nuanced cultural backstories of characters.

I know I can't change anybody's mind on whether or not you want to be excited about RDJ's return to the MCU. But I do think at the very least you should be mad that the MCU is baiting us all and destroying nuanced and interesting characters for the sake of self-referential easter eggs and nostalgia bait. Because that's what it is. Feel how you'd like to feel about RDJ's return, but personally, this is soul-sucking. I had such a deep love for the MCU as a teenager, it was obviously something incredibly formative to me, especially Tony Stark. This isn't recreating what I fell in love with the MCU for. This is turning a well-planned and artistic storyline of adaptations into cheap cash grabs and fan service. Because, I think we're past the point of being able to call the MCU an adaptation of anything. They can use existing characters' names and powers, but to say they're being properly adapted is laughable.

This is not an adaptation of Doctor Doom. This is RDJ the Electric Boogaloo because Marvel's fear of losing the interest of dedicated MCU fans overrides their willingness to tell stories that are genuine to the characters. I don't know what there is to be excited about that. The MCU has lost its authenticity and aside from a few projects, feels heartless. Every movie is a copy of a copy. This announcement isn't something celebratory, it feels like a death knell of a cinematic universe that's so desperate to cling to relevancy it's resorting to nostalgia for a character/actor who hasn't even been dead for a decade. We're not getting anything new, we're just rinsing and repeating the same song and dance.

I get it. I love Tony Stark, his death destroyed me and I to this day, rue the ending he got in Endgame. It misunderstood his arc and it robbed him of a satisfying conclusion. But the solution to that isn't dragging the corpse out of the grave five years later to whitewash an existing character with rich and interesting nuance, just to forcibly tie his existence in the MCU to Tony. Whether he is a variant or not. Why would you want someone else's fave's legacy to be destroyed simply so your fave's legacy can go on? Hell, if we were really all so hellbent on the return of RDJ and/or Tony to the MCU, we have the multiverse for a reason. There were other ways to do it that didn't whitewash and ruin someone else. This just. Isn't something to be happy about.

I hope you won’t mind elaborating, please ignore this message if it makes you uncomfortable, but I am terribly intrigued by the correlation between shipping narumitsu and having attachement issues, and I would love to hear your thoughts - either on the pattern you’ve noticed, or on why you think one would lead to the other? Sincerely, a sceptical of the idea that our fictional preferences reflect who we are (who also just happens to ship narumitsu lol) (this is all /lh and /genuinely interested btw my signature is meant to be tongue in cheek not passive-aggressive)

this doesn't make me uncomfortable at all! in fact, i'm happy to elaborate. i would, however, like to start this by saying i meant the case majority of nrmt shippers, not every single one, so if this doesn't apply to you - honestly, great news for your future and present relationships with people.

anyways. when i started reading narumitsu fanfiction, i noticed a pattern. people tend to make the characters pass the "i will find you and help you" role like a hot potato between the characters depending on the time of the events in the fanfic - if it's feenie or aa1 era, phoenix is the one who writes endless letters and seeks miles out, if it's aa3-aa4, edgeworth is the one who flies across the ocean to see wright or helps him financially and emotionally during the disbarment. each time, that borderline obsessive behavior gets romanticized and turns into the basic formula of "i'm in pain, closed off and not who i really am - let me help you despite your constant refusals - okay i'm better now. i love you also". i don't mean to say it's inherently bad to write stuff like that or that it makes the relationship toxic, i'm simply hyperbolizing and making an overall point.

another thing about those fics is that the hurt/comfort is usually centered on the one who needs the comfort. if phoenix helps miles get over the turnabout goodbyes trial, holds him after an earthquake or saves him "again", it's usually a miles-centered fic, and the disbarment ones are a phoenix study. it can be the other way around, of course, but the ones described earlier made me have a realization.

as i've stated in my nrmt analysis post, what they would have had before turnabout succession is just... not that healthy in my eyes? not long term healthy, at least. so i feel like nrmt fans tend to have a warped sense of what love and relationships are, constantly defining phoenix and miles by what they do for each other and what they mean to each other, not by their individual growth. phoenix often gets too much credit for saving miles, miles gets assigned the role of the one who was always there during the 7yg and helped take down kristoph, etc. again, not bad!! just interesting.

and with all of that being portrayed as this big romantic thing, i just feel like the narumitsu fans can be divided into different groups. if you like phoenix-centered bratfeen and aa1-3 wrightworth, you are likely to disregard your emotional needs for the sake of another person, idealize then, and to have experienced parental neglect or betrayal and abandonment of some kind, which can lead to an anxious attachment style. the people who like aa1-3 wrightworth with explorations of miles and disbarment fics about phoenix might have an idea in their head that no one understands them and never will, have a tendency to isolate themselves and have an avoidant attachment style. it might get mixed up too. of course, this is no way scientifically credible or well-spoken, it's like two am for me, what am i doing. but anyway, with the way nrmt shippers practically tie these two together by their identities... yeah.

again. absolutely no shade or hate or anything similar. i'm a huge narumitsu enjoyer. i have 333 bookmarks on ao3 and god knows some of them are exactly what I described above. but a girl has to speak her mind.

Being a Charles fan I actually have nothing nice to say about the clown team. I just meant it more like Newey is not going to Ferrari because of Hamilton?

Speculation has always been since he’s joining then maybe there would be new talent in engineering or something, which I don’t think it’s happening. Two of the reasons why Ferrari has trouble in attracting new talent (from my very superficial point of view) is they are based in Italy, compared to a lot of teams based in the UK, and is really more of a state-owned institute than a race team in terms of change and efficiency. And even though there’s Fernando, but this move with the huge salary and financial backing promised for his over projects looks much more like it’s not going to be longer than 3(2+1) years. Why would engineers move all the way just to work with him for 2-3 years. And I remember reading about anti-poaching in his current contract too, so when people were excited for Mercedes talent, it’s probably not happening.

But did Newey once say he wants to work with Hamilton? Right now google only has how they are going to be at Ferrari next year(maybe). If there was then I shall concede Newey is amongst those that have always dreamed to work for Ferrari and Hamilton.

i totally agree that ferrari is lewis’s retirement plan btw. i mean, that contract really is perfectly packaged to set him up to fulfill a dream (driving for ferrari) and then to swan off into ambassadorship with class and a good bow out. which is actually a VERY GOOD POINT regarding newey, as i hadn’t considered that! my best guess would be that newey is looking to retire soon (or now) too (and all of his recent interviews lean that way, so one last short term project with LH helping get ferrari back to excellence would be a nice send off for newey.

that being said, i frequently forget how delayed f1 development is. like, some of the poached talent ferrari is bringing in is garden leaved until 2026. newey would be working on the 2026 car — not even 2025! LH himself is out of reach until next season. it’s kind of wild to me how one bad year (cough, 2022) can set you back SO badly, because these problems can’t be fixed in a season or with any speed whatsoever (and then you get 2023…). so. it’s very possible the short term project couldn’t be very short term at all to be meaningful, which means not much of a quick little ferrari chapter before retiring peacefully.

also: yes, regarding the quote! newey said something along the lines of how he has three main regrets looking at his career, one being to work with lewis hamilton and the other to work for ferrari. (i forget what the third was because frankly it wasn’t as relevant to me 💀) it is somewhat recent i think? two months? it was circulating around during the LH to ferrari rumors because ppl were saying he could get 2/3. or maybe right after the LH to ferrari confirmation.

I was floored when I searched jjba in the site I usually watch anime at and there were so many options, i kinda got confused but i found a 'watch order complete guide' so that's fixed but i never knew jjba didn't have that many fillers? apparently, all the ova's related to the story so it's recommended to not skip anything, excited to watch it tbh, long continuity types r a grind but the complex storylines are pretty rewarding when they finish im p sure, excited to see the animation too tbh

and ohh u both watched the prev seasons together? were you both able to understand the plot properly? and ohh, using album song names as attack/power names is actually so clever, i don't know if i would've understood the reference until a few weeks but yeah it is deffo really smart(/gen) is there any other similar references like that? and woah, so kira is like a very plot relevant char (at least for those seasons im assuming) and oh part 1/2 are different from the others? looking forward to seeing how tbh but i'll find out when i watch that scene :D (/positive) a 'flaw' btw? i'm resisting the urge to find posts about it and watch for myself (/joke/lytheart) that sounds super cool

and i just searched for 'jjba part 4 rohan blue hair' scene, i don't know if i found it but i found some other scenes with different and p unique colorings. i'm really curious how they integrated that with the anime actually though i imagine it was around the fight scenes since those scenes typically have the most effects? and woah, his design definitely looks nice tbh, i don't know why but the bit about you saying "kinda cuz theyre pretty not bizarre (in comparison.)" reminds me of that one meme with the guy in yu-gi-oh w/ the normal hair as opposed to literally even in the series lol

YAYAYAYA the certified best way to watch it is to watch part 1 & 2 (phantom blood + battle tendency in the same like period of time?? like dont take a break after phantom blood ends (by break i mean stop watching for a month) then you watch 3, 4, then the rohan kishibe ova's. if ur in it for the fact its jojo id say to watch the anime ova version, then to watch the live action one later whenever you feel like it- its jojo but not art so it doesnt really pack that exact same punch after the ovas you watch part 5 and then 6 the one thing i'll say about jojo (other than every other thing ive said :D) is that araki does not give a fuck he WILL kill the characters you love and he will NOT feel sorry even the main character isnt safe i honestly would not reccommend reading past part 6's manga because part 7, 8 and 9? havent been animated yet the mangas just good to read because its the original you feel araki's like self in it (more) or whatever

i still enjoyed stone ocean aswell i knew what happened but it still was like "w w o w that just happened" also it was the first time id seen cgi used in anime and it was super cool

the using song names for abilities stuff is like, really reoccuring i think almost every power after part 2 has some musical/tarot connection theres a lot more obvious (?) examples of this like "man in the mirror" named after the michael jackson song, or notorious b.i.g, or the one named metallica depending on the kind of music you like its more easier to pick up on the references

kira is VERY plot relevant. so plot relavant i insist you do not search him up at all it might be hard cuz ive been gassing him up but once you get there youll see why part 1/2 are different for a big reason which will become immediately clear 10 minutes into part 3 for that reason a lot of people say to skip the first two parts when starting but i just say No....? like. theyre plot relevant, they set the stage, and they bring in joseph and jonathan!!!! those guys are amazing and telling people to skip those part because what? cause its not like the rest is such a slap in the face them not being the same is the point!! part 1 and 2 are set way back like way back like with cowboys so theyre not going to have the stuff/ thing that made part 3 forward different because they just werent there technology wise!!! part 1 is such a charming part because jonathan is literally such a sweet heart like SUCH a sweetheart and part 2 is brought together by joseph and these other 2 characters (spoilers) plus part 1 is literally the most important season ever. i wont say why but. it is. season 3 only works because of the stuff it takes from 1 and 2, literally in show or just in like writing or art (as in the people from part 1 and 2, and the way the storys work) I AM RAMBLING.

another trope.. well design i hate and throws me off is Thigh Highlights. chest highlights. shoulder highlights. this one more applys to artists than anime honestly but 9 times out of ten if someone does little white highlights on their big breasted teenage looking characters chest they probably like little kids i have to say it 9/10 times they love children thats just how it is second i notice the shading like that i just cant trust them

How weirdly gatekeepy (idk kind of an extreme word bc of how it's usually used) the dadrius microfandom is and also how fixated they are on fanon portrayals of Darius (granted. That last part is not at all unique we know fandom at large is about sanding characters down to their most convenient to the points you want to make basic traits but it's especially noticeable because they also are like really self righteous about it like woah you removed any negative trait from the fictional man that don't contribute to the like same 5 repeated angst fanfics? Do you want an award?/lh)

Like and I could maybe excuse it if fanon Darius was at least interesting but you're kind of punished for reading into his character literally at all or at least not deliberately interpreting canon to portray him as insanely incompetent for no reason.

Like y'all cannot convince me that Darius realized belos was an evil overlord and started the rebellion years ago and has been working behind the scenes and gathering intel this whole time but somehow thinks that child fucking soldier giant ass scar on his face mentor mysteriously and suspiciously died Hunter is fine and safe and not being abused by belos and you ALSO can't convince me that him having this knowledge and doing what we see him do in canon makes him a bad person or at all problematic, past like being a nuanced person who can't go at the world with the approach of a therapist.

Like idk I got a lot of pushback whenever I talked abt my hcs like it was automatically in bad faith or something, like ok fair it fsr makes people uncomfortable, but maybe it makes me uncomfortable when the only accepted interpretation is that he's that checked out/oblivious and more specifically that this is a good thing that absolves him of some predetermined guilt.

Like idk I think it's established very well that Darius has very little room to work with in helping Hunter for a number of reasons (he has to avoid suspicion, belos is insanely possessive over Hunter and limits his contact with others, Hunter is yk. The Golden Guard and child or not Darius has 0 assurance that if Hunter found anything out or sensed disloyalty to the emperor he wouldn't turn on him. Which, btw, it seems very likely pre Hollow Mind he would have) and then all of his attempts we see in canon TO help Hunter are waved off as not actually his contribution but purely coincidental and any inclination that he might have like. Idk fuckin autonomy in the narrative/plot is somehow the same as saying he's abusive (seriously this confuses me so much. HOW does that track? "Encouraging Hunter to act any differently than how belos wants him to is like basically wanting him fuckign dead because belos will kill him" belos was going to kill him no matter what. He's literally got a sigil. Darius already knows about the draining spell even if you don't think he knows belos killed his mentor this kid is literally already condemned. Also do you hear yourself? Trying to break someone out of their brainwashing is not abuse just because they might get hurt if their abuser finds out)

Like cmon guys they went into a public place, and checked to be SURE they were being followed (Hunter has 0 fucking stealth in his white and gold fucking outfit marching through the night market come ON) to do a spell they can literally do wherever when they Literally have A Secret Hideout no one knows about after Hunter just super mysteriously got an anonymous tip about their most dangerous plan. And yeah you could chalk it up to bad writing but like where is your whimsy aren't you tired of being boring as hell and refusing to engage with canon beyond surface level interpretations

But I'm also fascinated by how like. The dadrius microfandom becomes so defensive that they loop around into being weirdly misogynist towards Camila while ALSO perpetuating the same stereotypes with Darius that allegedly are the problem with Camila as a parent figure

Like idk the biggest argument I saw against Camila being an important figure in Hunter’s life (fuckign at all let alone as a potential parent) is that she already has so much on her plate and Hunter has So Much Trauma and would be Such A Burden on her which like. Okay really making that easy to interpret uncharitably but undercurrents of ableism aside like

Considering the Staple of dadrius angst is how he steps into raising the kid that 1. He has a complicated and often painful history with and 2. Literally Has His Dead Mentor's Face and how him having basically any support system is seen as too much of a coparenting truther agenda I really think that considering Hunter's existence and its affect on his adoptive parent really isn't the priority here

Like you want this man to, upon immediately escaping a cult in which he had to mask his entire true identity for a MINIMUM of 16 years, suddenly become a parent to a mentally ill teenager who he has an insane amount of guilt towards and who also until recently was fairly combative towards him and then you very specifically want him doing this almost entirely on his own AND you want to diminish all of Hunter's relationships with the others to just kinda casual friends when the narrative calls for friends to exist and somehow this is supposed to be The Healthiest Preferable Option that they'd both choose

Like obviously theres an annoying trend in mom Camila fics/content where she prioritizes Hunter beyond what's healthy that's an issue but you don't fix that issue by going well diversity win guys we took racist stereotypes for Black women and applied it to this gnc Black man instead. Now HIS life solely revolves around the white character(s). Hashtag progessive

Like and let me reiterate I LIKE dadrius, I like that Darius is able to reconnect with Hunter and that they're able to heal together and find family in each other. It's just that I don't like the way that fanon simultaneously isolates him and sands all of his emotions and motivations down to super gentle and somber parent who sits around agonizing over Hunter and his mentor.

Anyway back to Camila, I've noticed that in arguments about this there's a tendency to very strongly erase Camila's involvement in not just Hunter's life but in all of their lives minus Luz and Vee (and let's not kid ourselves Vee is only accepted as Camila's kid because they didn't have time to get attached to her before she was interacting with primarily Camila. I see so many complaints of "everyone ignores Vee" from people who I've honestly never seen posting about her otherwise) and like the undercurrent here makes me so uncomfortable like

There's this idea that Camila is just nice and doesn't actually care about the hexsquad and is basically counting the days until she gets her house back. And theyre like "what is Camila Gus and Willow's mom now too" idk how to explain to you she fostered these kids, repeatedly risked her life for them, and then was implied to be actively invested in their adjustment period returning home. Removing her agency in that and deciding she gets no joy from them or that they exist solely as a burden isn't doing what you think it's doing. And hell y'all have no problem randomly deciding that Darius is so super attached to the Blight kids who he has literally no interactions with and deciding that Hunter and Amity are The Siblings Ever when there's nothing indicating that so again it's fine putting the entire weight of the blight family's problems on this man but not fine to think that Just Maybe what Camila wants is a support network (THAT SHE GETS! and also that literally includes Darius if you like Camila’s VA, Elizabeth Grullor's HCs) and not to get rid of these kids

And I mean the arguments get ridiculous I am never letting y'all live down "Hunter isn't standjng next to Luz and Camila during the group shot at the end so clearly he isn't in their family" that is so comically pedantic especially when the epilogue has almost no dialogue and tells us very little about everyone's living situations and they kept that shit ambiguous on purpose to avoid alienating fans.

It's so frustrating like ok I get it annoying Camila as a mom fans killed your grandma and gave you anxiety letting Darius have anything that they could criticize but do you have to make that everyone's problem or go after the "coparenting truthers" for existing in your spaces

🎈describe your style as a writer; is it fixed? does it change?

Ooooh that's hard. I don't think it's super fixed-- like I have experimented with different types and voices, and it definitely fluctuates based on what I'm reading at the moment (for instance you can tell with the stuff I wrote last summer that I was reading Rebecca at the time)-- but I think it does have some anchors? Like the way I describe things stays mostly the same? Also something my advisor has pointed out is the way I write anxious characters with the italicized first person thoughts, which he thinks I should stop doing lol. Idk, I'm not sure how to characterize my writing style; I'd be curious to see how others would describe it.

🎉how often do you celebrate completing & posting a work? how often do you give yourself the credit/validation that you seek from others when you post? (if you don't, you should!)

I mean, there's always a sense of pride when I've finished something-- pride mixed with relief lol. I always say that finishing writing a story kind of gives me a high, especially when it's something I've been working on for a while. I don't think anything I can do for myself gives me the same sense of validation as getting positive comments though, whether that be from commenters online or just friends reading my story irl.

🍭why did you start writing?

I'm not sure if this is meant as writing in general or just fanfic. I'm honestly not sure "why" I started writing in general, because I've been doing it since I learned how to write. I still have these little handmade books that I wrote when I was six or seven and illustrated myself-- when my sister was old enough to read (I taught her how to read btw, that's something I will forever be obnoxiously proud of /lh) I used to make her these little books too. I just like writing stories. I like telling stories. My parents always used to say that I had an overactive imagination (I used to tell people that too even though I had absolutely no idea what it meant just because my parents said it so often lol) and writing them down seemed the next logical step. As for fanfic specifically, I've been making up fanfic stuff in my head for as long as I can remember (I have memories of being four or five and creating self insert stories with the characters of Little Einstein lol) and during lockdown I had just gotten a tumblr account and decided to try my hand at writing some of them

The History Of The Cloobies War

(note and disclaimer: war is /lh. this is all for fun. no one was ever actually fighting. every single participant in this fully supports containment & proper tagging out of courtesy. cloobies are not for all and we understand this. And again, ALL OF THIS IS /LH. EVENTS ARE OVERDRAMATIZED FOR COMEDIC EFFECT. that said, let’s get into it).

Background

It all began one day with a simple concept. Boobsteal SMP. Picture: Lifesteal, but instead of hearts you steal boobs. This naturally led to the concept of Lifestealers with boobs, and somehow this spiraled into Clownpierce with boobs. A new channel was created in the lifesteal brainrotting discord for the sole purpose of containing the cloobs.

And so it began.

Some time passed. Whispers reached the outside world. Inside the cursed-thing-containment channel, the Cloobers were plotting. Quickly those involved seperated into a few groups. 

First, the Cloobers, with Skye/Gender (recently revealed as Rat Anon, although we wouldn’t find that out later) being one of the most well-known. Later, when Vester Casinomoths joined the Discord, it also became a prominent member of the Cloobers, along with Joobies Anon.

Second, the resistance, mainly consisting of Nix Felicityphoenix5. Yeah, really by now it’s just Nix. Most others took a somewhat neutral stance, being neither particularly enthusiastic about Cloobs nor against them.

And then the Kevins. I, Pacific C. Otter, proudly claim the title of the original Kevin, but there were a few... copycats (/lh /nm).

The Kevins did not last long.

Containment Breaches

Around the same time, two things happened. First, the Cloobers posted Cloobies art on Tumblr. Let’s just say it breached the containment of a few mutuals who it was meant for. 

And secondly, Nix made the mistake of mentioning Cloobs in the tags of lifesteal-headcanons, which prompted a second containment breach in which cloobies were explained to the general public.
