Sorry if you've already been asked this, but who is your favorite Sherlock Holmes, outside of the original canon? (I'm always a little embarrassed to admit that Peter Cushing and Basil of Baker St. are my favorites, especially since it's practically heresy in the fandom to not pick Cumberbatch or Brett as your favorite).
No problem! I can't remember what I posted about SH or not, haha! I tend to ramble and rant...aksjhf
But oh, sweet anon, you are not alone. And I guess if you must die for heresy, so must I. I too am team Cushing and Basil of Baker Street all the way to the pyre.

I mean look at him! It is a shame that the Cushing Holmes series didn't have as much of a budget/quality writing because he was really good (and looked so ACD canon it HURTS).
As for Basil...despite being a rodent homage to everything Holmes-related, he  is prooobably the closest depiction of canon Holmes??? He’s got the hyperactive enthusiasm, readiness to learn from his mistakes, and soft heart that I love from ACD Holmes. I’ve posted/reblogged comments about this before but canon Holmes is such a puppy and its sad we don't get to see more exploration of that personality ;,D
This may get me killed, but Cucumberpatch and Brett McDucklips didn't do much for me. Obviously, taste is relative but the combo of writers on the show + character portaryals didn't appeal. Brett was better than Cummerbund, by far. But I think most of the fault is on the writing/direction as opposed to Brett himself. They did that whole "jerk” genius/sexism angle that is too common in crime fiction and I hate it (Granada’s The Greek Interpreter was reprehensible). Such a shame, because I actually liked a lot of what he brought to the role!
