these hands that saved me, they're so fragile.
tartaglia x gn! reader. when you take a hit for him. he's referred to by his real name here.
you wouldn't really call yourself a fighter per say, more of an scholar or explorer. but like everyone else in the village, you knew some basic self defense - like how to hold a bow properly and the best way to wield a knife and cut through flesh. when you finally started dating ajax, he taught you how to throw a punch properly, with your fist as tight as possible and not with your thumb tucked into your palm, "because it'll break that way".
he's brought you on several trips already - fatui missions, you know, but he swears he has the time to lounge around and accompany you on your survey of various local offerings, and he makes well on his promises, despite the bruises and extra cuts he has to go through to clean up in time. you always scold him - don't go into a battle without a clear head! - but he laughs and says that it'll be a waste to come all the way here with his favourite person and not enjoy it.
you know he has his fair share of enemies - people who would do anything to take his head off. ajax jumps at any chance to fight - like a wolf that just learnt to bare it's teeth and fight tooth and nail with reckless abandonment. he comes home bloodied and bruised nine times out of ten, always with an apology hanging by his lips as you sit him down and wipe away the splash of blood on his cheek.
you've had your own close run-ins with his foes - even after ajax made an example out of the first group that dared to touch a hair of you, the fatui's enemies pinpointed you as the weakness of the eleventh harbinger - a surefire way of getting under his skin and catching him by surprise.
"i'll protect you," he murmurs every so often in your ear at night, arms tightening around your waist as he buried his head in the crook of your shoulder, "i'll be your knight."
"i know, ajax," you've always whispered back, smoothing back ginger curls and leaving a tender kiss on his forehead.
so that's why you didn't second guess yourself and threw yourself in the line of an arrow heading towards him in his blind spot. a sniper perched in a tree that quickly slinked off when the arrowhead pierced the flesh of your shoulder and you cried out in pain.
the overwhelming sensation of pain overtakes all your senses, you can barely hear ajax call out your name and you don't register him catching you in his arms and frantically patting you on your cheek. the taste of blood fills your mouth and your eyes water at the sensation - and smell of iron in the air.
your vision fades to black.
"i'll keep an eye on them. thanks for coming around, doctor."
ajax's voice finally makes it over the noise and his face finally makes it into focus in your vision. you vaguely register that you're on a bed and you can't feel the entirety of your left side.
"ajax?" you manage to croak out. you hear frantic feet against the floor and his face pops into view, brows drawn together in worry. the bed creaks under his weight as he sits on the bed beside you, leaning over your body.
"the doctor said that most people usually take 3 hours to wake up," he mutters, and you manage to catch it as he scans over you with scrutiny.
"guess i'm not most people," you manage to raise your right arm to give him at quick tap on his hand, which immediately moves to grasps yours and give you squeeze.
"does it hurt?"
"not really. can't feel it at all, actually."
he lets out a satisfied hum, before his blue eyes turn steely again.
"what you did was stupid. why did you do that - for me?"
"hey," you muster enough strength to squeeze his hand back in response, "it goes both ways, ajax. if you were me, you would done the same."
he fumes, because he knows you're right. he would rather throw himself to the flames than to watch anyone hurt you, and he knows that if he starts scolding you all you would do is do the same thing back to him.
he settles for sighing, playing with your fingers.
"i only wish it didn't have to be that way. i'm sorry, it's all on me. i should've been better."
he places your hand on his cheek, feeling the warmth against his skin.
"ajax," you say softly as his eyes close, "i told you before - i chose to be with you. i knew what i was getting into. so don't say sorry, okay?"
you watch as he inhales, then exhales, again.
"you really are the best, you know?"
not my best work but i suddenly felt the urge. like or reblog if you enjoyed thank you~

IRONDAD & SPIDER-SON WHUMP MASTERLIST—PART 1
Last Updated: September 2023
As promised, here is my long overdue Irondad Whump Masterlist! This list took an embarrassing amount of time to compile and over forty pages in my Google Docs (!!!!!).
Due to the sheer amount of fics, I will be posting in parts. Within these posts, each fic will categorized by its most prevalent trope/theme.
I hope the work from these talented contributors brings as much whumpy joy to you as they do to me!
Also, a very special shoutout to my most treasured Irondad authors iron_spider, for_the_night, madasthesea, losingmymindtonight, AdVitemAeternum, MotherKarizma, and so many more! This post is dedicated to you. ♡
Adoption/Tony Stark is Peter Parker’s Biological Father
5 Times Tony Acted Like Peter’s Dad by for_the_night
Summary: “And the one time he actually was." *Featuring an award evening, nightmares, a father-son field trip, appendicitis, and a very special gift—oh, and SO many forehead kisses.*
Alive and Healing by Watermeloness
Summary: “‘...bank robbery gone wrong in Queens. We’re receiving live footage from the crime site, where a 15-year-old teenager has been severely injured. Witnesses report a young boy getting shot after trying to stop the perpetrators. The last we’ve heard, his state is critical and he’s being rushed to…’ Statistically, there are a lot of 15-year-old teenagers in Queens. The city is filled with 15-year-old teenagers that are all brave in their own ways. This doesn’t have to be their teenager. But Peter is not picking up his phone.”
Dad Is Just A Word (You Give It Meaning) by madasthesea
Summary: “Father's Day, two years after May dies. Peter has something special to give and something important to say.”
For Want of a Dad (In Need of a Son) by GhostInTheBAU
Summary: “So, have you given the camping trip any more thought?’ Ned asks, and he groans internally at the change in subject. He'd much rather go back to talking about his non-existent love life, thanks. The trip is during spring break—a four-day long trek out into the wilderness, camping and hiking and gathering who even knows what, learning all about nature and the great outdoors. But the real kicker? It's an event specifically designed for fathers and their sons, which is something Peter doesn't have, and something he will never be. Not again." Or: Peter longs to have a deeper relationship with his mentor, a more meaningful connection; but he's managed to convince himself that the only reason Tony Stark spends any time with him at all is purely because of his enhancement. Because of Spider-Man.
Homebound by AdVitamAeternam
Summary: “Shortly after Homecoming, Peter starts having panic attacks. Tony happens to have some experience with those. What do you do when everyone around you has a tendency to die? What do you do when the last person, the most precious, the one you absolutely cannot lose, maybe wants you? Do you give in, or do you run? Do you take what they offer, or do you keep them as far away from the disaster that is your life as you can?”
I Love You More Than Anything Series by iron_spider
Summary: “The highs and lows of Tony unexpectedly becoming a single dad at 31—from Peter’s early baby years, all the way past the defeat of Thanos”
I’ll Always Protect You (Even If You Don’t Want Me To) by JAWorley
Summary: “So much changed with Peter’s body chemistry after the bite that new things are still coming up that surprise him. One day he and Tony are having a fight and Peter is so stressed out he ends up having a seizure. Seizures… great, so that’s a thing now, and Tony has decided that the best thing is for Peter to stop being Spider-Man. The more the seizures happen, the more protective Tony becomes. All Peter wants is to have his life back." Or: May asks Tony to take joint custody of Peter to help with the Spider-Man thing and this new stress seizure issue. Peter learns that sometimes parents do what’s necessary even if it’s not a popular choice with their kids.
Questions of Science, Science and Progress (Do Not Speak As Loud As My Heart) by l_u_c_k_y_c_l_o_v_e_r
Summary: “I had to find you, tell you I need you. Tell you I set you apart." Or: Peter stays with Tony for a few weeks, and the pair get into all kinds of shenanigans. And maybe, just maybe, those few weeks will usher in something more.
These Days I’ll Sit On Cornerstones by Finny3120
Summary: “Tony was ill-prepared to find that the vigilante he'd recruited was a 14-year-old boy. He was even less prepared for Peter Parker to be mute. But Peter hasn't spoken since his uncle died. And the more Tony works with the teen, the less it matters to him. He hears Peter just fine.”
You’re Stuck With Me by for_the_night
Summary: “I’m adopting you. I don’t care what you have to say.’ Peter gaped. Of all of the entrances he’d expected from Mister Stark after being alone in a hospital room for hours, that wasn’t one of them." Or: Peter gets taken to hospital with a ruptured appendix and Tony comes to a daunting realization of just how little hold he has on the kid outside of Medbay.
Alternate Universe
My Baby, My Baby by SpaceCowboysFromMars
Summary: “Silence falls over them like a warm blanket. Distantly, there’s commotion down on the street as people walk home from clubs. Peter thinks Tony might be his best friend in the whole world. After a long, peaceful moment, Tony says, voice dripping with warmth, ‘Night, kid.’ ‘Goodnight, Mr. Stark." Or: Tony and Peter in the middle of the night, in five alternate universes.
Visiting Hours by Sara (ctrsara)
Summary: “Boss?’ Tony jolted out of his half-asleep state. ‘What’s up, FRI?’ ‘There is a visitor here to see you.’ Tony jumped up. Anyone he knew would usually call or text first, so he was immediately on alert. ‘Who is it, FRI?’ ‘I need you to have an open mind, and know that I do not believe this person is any threat.’ Oh, yeah, that made him feel better. ‘Excuse me? How about you let me decide that, Watson?’ He started walking towards the door, activating his watch gauntlet. ‘Wait, Boss.’ He was annoyed, but he trusted his AI enough to stop and listen. ‘I also need you to know that I have performed biometric scanning, and this person is who they appear to be. However, they insist they’re not from our universe, and that is the part I don’t understand." — In a universe where he never invented time travel, and never brought anyone back, Tony Stark gets a late-night visitor he never could have expected. Prompt taken from @idk-bruh-20 Irondad fic idea #97 on Tumblr. Idea from @derpmallow.
What The Heart Knows by AdVitamAeternam
Summary: “When Peter wakes up, his head is being assaulted by a sledgehammer. He has no idea where he is. He has no idea what happened to him. He has no idea who he is, other than ‘Peter.’ But then, he looks over at the man who is scrutinizing him with worried eyes, and he knows who the man is. That's his dad." Or: The one where Peter gets hit over the head really, really hard and has temporary amnesia, and makes a very reasonable assumption based on the data presented to him.
Angst
A Far Green Country by madasthesea
Summary: “He just wanted Peter to be happy. More than anything in the world, he wanted Peter to be happy. Oh, Tony thought as that realization sunk down into the pit of his stomach and took root. I love him.”
A River To Skate Away On by frostysunflowers
Summary: “Peter has survived a spider bite, a building falling on him, turning to dust and being a teenager. He can handle anything. Except being forgotten.”
Agape by canon irondad (tomlinsoul)
Summary: “It's Tony's first date night with Pepper since the Snap, and Peter can't wait to spend some quality time with his little sister. Too bad a pair of hapless intruders, head trauma, and a panicked helicopter ride throw a spanner in the works." Whumptober 2022 Day 8: Head Trauma + Day 7: Seizures + Day 19: Repeatedly Passing Out + BTHB: Big Brother Instinct
Broken Heart Syndrome by iron_spider
Summary: “Tony is clearly really upset, the kind of upset that Peter’s only seen the likes of a couple of times, and it’s too close after everything happening to really talk about it. He can definitely see that now. ‘I’m sorry,’ Peter says. ‘I’m sorry, I should have answered— ‘Yeah, you should have answered!’ Tony yells. His bottom lip is trembling and he shakes his head, his eyes wild. He runs his hand over his forehead. ‘Okay, okay, I’ll know for next time,’ Peter says. He doesn’t know what’s gonna make this better. Probably nothing. ‘There better not be a next time,’ Tony says, dropping his hand from his face. ‘God, like this? Pete, no one knew where he was but you, and you—you kept it that way so nobody knew what the hell was happening, and you—you weren’t answering, kid, and that asshole sent me all that shit plucked directly from my nightmares, and I was trying to be strong for May because she was worried, too, and you—and you, I—I thought I wasn’t gonna ever—I thought—Jesus, Peter, you don’t think, you don’t—’ Tony bends over, clutching at his arm and breathing hard through his mouth.”
Dead In There, You’re Dead In There by iron_spider
Summary: “Peter, you’ve been acting insane for the past however many days and it’s giving me an ulcer, what’s going on, what did I do? Tell me. Tell me and I’ll fix it.’ Peter is still stalking around, and Friday is listing off his injuries, from a concussion to broken ribs to a sprained ankle, and Tony feels sick looking at it all. ‘You’ll fix it,’ Peter says, glancing over at him with pure disdain, the look bookended by matching explosions somewhere behind them. ‘Yeah it’s something you can’t fix, if it happens, nope, can’t fix it, it would just—but you’re just saying—’ Tony starts forward towards him. ‘Pete, explain to me what’s happening, please.’ ‘The protocol, the protocol,’ Peter insists, waving his hands through the air. Tony shakes his head. ‘The protocol?’ ‘The Avalon Protocol, Tony,’ Peter spits out, with venom.”
Dead-Eyed by iron_spider
Summary: “Hey,’ Tony says, fast, into the phone. ‘Everything alr—’ ‘Hey, no, I don’t know where he is,’ MJ says, in a rush of breath. ‘I don’t know where he is, Tony, and I know I have access to that tracking thing, but it feels weird for me to do that, and it doesn’t feel weird for you to do that, so you should do that. And find him and tell me what’s going on.’ ‘Okay, calm down,’ Tony says, getting up and stepping back from his workstation. ‘You know you can’t tell me to calm down, because I’m calm, and I’m always calmer than you because you’re like, inherently, not calm. At all, about anything, but especially about your family—’ ‘Okay, this is not calm,’ Tony says, starting to pace, even though he’s not calm either, she’s right. She sighs loudly in his ear. ‘When was the last time you saw him?”
Earthly Dust From Off Thee Shaken by ExpectoPatronum
Summary: “It had started with leaving his bedroom light on at night before he went to sleep. For a while, that had been enough. But then it wasn't.”
“Forever” by WithACherryOnTop
Summary: “Peter could feel the darkness creeping up on him again, like it had only moments earlier in the Avengers Compound bullpen. ‘‘ony.’ ‘Just go to sleep, bud.’ Tony gently scratched his nails at the nape of Peter’s neck. Peter collapsed bonelessly in Tony’s arms, all evidence of the tears, crying, and sobs hidden except for a stained shirt and the boy’s even, congested breaths. Tony wiped a hand over his face, a bit flustered. ‘Wow. That went way worse than I expected." Disclaimer: All characters belong to Marvel and/or Sony. I do not give permission for this work to be copied and/or posted to any other sites.
Gonna Pick Up The Pieces by orphan_account
Summary: “I don’t want to talk to you,’ Peter says. He’s been hiding for the better part of an hour, sitting in the cabin’s laundry room, wedged between the washer and the dryer. Something about the sounds coming off of them calms him, weirdly. The swish of water, the rumble of the motors, cotton rubbing cotton, the button on a pair of jeans dinging the side of the barrel. ‘That’s bullshit,’ Tony says. ‘You always want to talk to me.’ As true as that usually is, this time it rings discordant and tense. Peter clenches his jaw. ‘Not really,’ he says. ‘You just sorta assume that.’ ‘Of course I do. I make for lovely conversation.’ ‘Eh.”
Head’s On The Fritz by augustheart
Summary: "Hello?’ ‘Tony?’ ‘The one and only. What’s up, kiddo?’ The answer rises up in Peter's throat. Stops at the back of his tongue and wobbles there, heavy and leaden. He wants to spit it out, to cough it into the unbearable silence, to not be loud—but, to be steady. ‘I—’ he says. He trembles. ‘Can you—come over? Please?" Or: Tony makes things better
Hold Me Together by An_Odd_Idea
Summary: “Peter still doesn’t feel quite solid. Sometimes Tony can’t believe he’s really there either. They cope.”
I Have You by sweetspiderstew
Summary: “Tony has Peter all to himself, and there's nothing else like some good quality time in the workshop, but little mishaps happen, and there's a lot of hugging.”
I’ll Be Right Here by An_Odd_Idea
Summary: “Peter has a nightmare, and Tony goes to be sure he’s okay. It’s not the first one of its kind.”
It Came At Night by Marvelous_Writer
Summary: “What’s supposed to be a normal weekend visit to the Compound turns into one of disaster when unexpected visitors show up." (Set after Spider-Man: Homecoming) Whumptober Day Five: Gunpoint
It’s Time to Leave (and Turn to Dust) by hopeless_hope
Summary: "We’re going to help you, I promise, but you’ve got to trust me. Do you trust me?’ Peter looks at his mentor, fear written across his face. He raises a shaking hand back to Tony’s chest, and Tony places his hand over the kid’s. Peter closes his eyes and feels the hard surface of the arc reactor against his palm. Peter doesn’t like soft things, but this isn’t soft. It’s solid and steady and strong and feels like a truth he can believe in. It feels like presence. ‘Yeah, I trust you." (In which Peter has trouble coping with the events of Infinity War, but a certain Tony Stark is there to help.)
Meltdown by inkinmyheartandonthepage
Summary: “You said two-thirty,’ Peter said, acting as if he hadn’t heard Tony. ‘I forgot that you changed it to two thirty and not three.’ Tony took a step towards Peter. ‘Hey, Pete. It’s fine. You’re not that late kiddo. Hell, I’ve been to board meetings hours late.’ The joke didn’t land, and Peter’s eyes started to well with tears. He took in a hiccupping breath. ‘Oh god. I forgot. I forgot." Or: Peter isn't coping after Titan and has been doing everything to keep busy and not think about it. Everything comes to head when he forgets that a time was changed in his busy schedule leading to a meltdown.
Mine, And Yours by crowkag
Summary: “Is it Peter?’ He was met with loaded silence. The anxiety spark became an anxiety plunge and twist. ‘Happy. Is it Peter?’ ‘It’s… well. Who else would it be, right?’ ‘Hogan.’ He hated this. The spark, the plunge, the twist. The tension creeping from his shoulder blades, clawing down arms both flesh and metal, somehow, someway, and bunching up inside his palms. The hysteria of it all. ‘It’s—alright, I won’t sugarcoat it. The kid’s alive, but he got shot, Tony. Twice." Or: Tony reunites with Peter in a less-than-ideal manner.
Relax, Just Breathe by hailfire_73
Summary: “Tony,’ said Peter, lifting his head from the glass, his stubbornness spent. ‘I don’t feel so—’ ‘Do not,’ said Tony, through gritted teeth, and meeting Peter’s eyes in the rearview mirror. He had just one hand on the steering wheel as he drove them into the night. ‘Finish that sentence.’ Morgan leaned over, hung out of her booster seat, and whispered, ‘It gives dad attacks." Or: The Starks go on a road trip that goes wrong when Peter gets food poisoning from questionable carnival food.
Scars Can Heal And Reveal Just Where You Are by parkrstark
Summary: “Jesus Christ, Pete,’ the voice says again, and it's not just a voice. It's a voice that belongs to the shadow. The shadow is light in the dark. It's warm. ‘What are you doing on the floor? You're lucky you're by your bed or else it would have been you breaking my fall.’ Peter blinks at the shadow and can't tell if he's comforted or irritated by the new company. ‘What? No quip about me breaking a hip?’ There's silence. ‘Peter?"
Shots Ring Out by itsluckyyou
Summary: “Peter Parker had training. Training to deal with robbers, petty crime, and possible alien invasions. Nothing could have possibly trained him for this, though." Or: There's a shooter wandering the halls of Midtown School of Science and Technology.
The Pills (They Gotta Go) by searchingforstars
Summary: “Tony. What are these?’ Tony glances up. Sees the packs of pills clenched in Peter’s fist. He’s sure some of them must be dust judging by the force that Peter is holding them with. ‘My pills?’ ‘Why are they sitting at the back of the pantry?’ Peter asks, voice dangerously low." Or: Tony decides taking his medication is optional. Peter strongly disagrees.
We All Have A Hunger by MotherKarizma
Summary: “Morgan,’ he croaked, throat afire, and wiped his mouth with the back of his hand. ‘Hey—hey, it’s okay, I’m just…’ ‘You’re sick.’ She mustered up something like bravery, using it to straighten her back and plaster a very grown-up look on her face. ‘I’ll get Daddy!’ ‘No!’ Morgan jumped, eyes wide. Peter fought to calm his voice. He offered her a smile that couldn’t have been convincing, not even to a five-year-old. ‘No, you don’t have to. I feel better now. You don’t have to tell him.’ Morgan’s lips wobbled. Peter knew what her fake pout looked like well enough to know this wasn’t it. ‘Petey…’ Peter had a lot of reasons to feel guilty. He felt guilty for scaring her. He felt guilty for forgetting to lock his bedroom door, for making scaring her a possibility. He kind of, in a way, felt guilty for doing it in the first place, though not nearly enough to stop. But more than anything, he felt guilty for this: ‘Morgan, promise me you won’t tell him. He…he won’t let us swim anymore if you do. And I’m not sick, my tummy just hurt a little bit, but I’m all better now. Promise me you won’t tell him, okay?’ ‘But…’ ‘Morgan. Promise.”
We’re Here by An_Odd_Idea
Summary: “Comfortember prompt 3: Nightmares Peter has nightmares about when Thanos stabbed Tony on Titan”
Who Needs a Happy New Year When You Can Have a Happy Forever? by searchingforstars
Summary: “Peter's already feeling insecure about his place in Stark family holiday traditions, but it turns out it doesn't really matter because New Year’s Eve is significantly less fun when you’re a pair of PTSD-riddled superheroes, anyway." Or: Tony has a panic attack in a Burger King.
Without You (I Was Broken) by parkrstark
Summary: "How did you get shot? You just webbed me up 5 stories from being shot!’ ‘D-Didn’t know it was coming.’ ‘Dammit, Peter! This isn’t the first time your spidey sense hasn’t worked. I tried to give you the benefit of the doubt because Rhodey told me I was being insane. Why didn’t you tell me it wasn’t always working? You shouldn’t go out into battle like this when your powers are being wonky and—’ ‘You’re here.’ ‘What?’ ‘You’re here.’ He takes a deep breath. ‘I don’t...I can’t really feel the danger when you’re around."

ever in your favor by @iron--spider
Peter startles awake when someone shakes him.
“Sorry, honey,” May says. Peter blinks a couple times and she comes into focus, her hair pulled back from her face. She’s trying not to look a certain way, but he can see it in her eyes anyway. She clears her throat, keeps talking. “But it’s…” She glances away, wets her lips. “You gotta get ready.”
He remembers what day it is, and his heart beats like a drum at someone’s execution. But he tries to put on a mask, make it all seem normal. It’s everything but, despite the fact that he’s been dealing with reaping day since he was born, between himself, Ben and May. That fear that one of them could be taken away. Sent to surefire slaughter. But now Ben is gone, taken despite never having his name drawn from a bowl, and May’s finally safe. Now Peter’s name is in there alone. The last Parker sitting on the chopping block. He doesn’t know how to be. He doesn’t know what normal is, when the Hunger Games are looming on the horizon.
fic by @iron--spider
art by @angel-gidget
624 pages / 153,984 words
Title Font: PP Hatton, Rustic Printed
Body Fonts: Californian FB, Moonglade, Bebas Neue, War Is Over, Architects Daughter
More on the process below the cut!
I have...SO much to say about this project! This fic was one that I've wanted to do ever since I started fanbinding, and it was one I saved until my technical skills caught up with my vision for the book. @iron--spider is my favorite author and a wonderful friend, and I wanted to be able to do this masterwork justice!
Given that it's a Hunger Games AU, I wanted to touch on the Hunger Games aesthetic while still being unique. I started with the cover; I knew I wanted red and yellow, something bold and evocative of the Iron Man, Spiderman vibe. It also doubles as an implication of the blood spilt during the games, especially in volume II - when Peter actually enters the games. I chose the spider for the cover, and painted it on the cover paper with inky black paint; I cut a stencil, and while the images did have some drippy areas, I don't mind it so much. It's meant to look like graffiti, Peter's symbol that the people of the Districts scrawl everywhere they can get away with it.
In turn, I also experimented with a paint pen on this one of the titling, done on the spine piece, which is black Better Than Goat leather! Again, I went in with a stencil, and opted for blockier letters, like something you might see spray painted onto a wall.
The endpapers are custom; I messed around with a weird cityscape I found and came out with the image you see above. The setting for the games is a futuristic city, much like MCU NYC would be, complete with an Avengers Stane tower.
And then of course, there's the typeset itself! The Hunger Games books don't have particularly striking typesets, but I did go for the dystopian vibe with the Rustic Printed font on the chapter numbers, and Moonglade for the chapter titles, giving it a very industrial feel.
It was also a pleasure to include the art that @angel-gidget did for the fic as well! Her book covers are so gorgeous and I love her manip style so much <3 I also included the short drabble @iron--spider did on her Tumblr, a post-story snack-sized fic, as well as a meta question she answered via her asks that I thought was particularly interesting. The District guide at the back, including what Districts each character belongs to and whether or not they are deceased was interesting to put together, and I hope I didn't make any mistakes!
Last, but certainly not least, this book was the first one I was able to do really nice headbands on. Shoutout to @morningstarbindery who helped me learn how! They look phenomenal and I never would have figured it out on my own <3
I'm excited for everyone to see these books! One day I'll have all your works on my shelf ;)

20 Questions for Fic Writers
Tagged by @sassyandclassy94, thank you so much for tagging me in this kind of stuff!
How many works do you have on AO3? Five
What's your total AO3 word count? 135,767
What fandoms do you write for? Marvel (specifically Spider-Man), Lockwood and Co, and The Boys in the Boat. I do have a 1917 fic on there, but I'm not currently working on it
Top five fics by kudos?Proof That Harley Keener Has A Heart - 381 The Injury of Finally Knowing You - 234 Star-Crossed in the Worst Way - 135 All I've Ever Known - 78 When Our Fingers Touch, I Feel My Way Back Home - 4 (I weep)
Do you respond to comments? I want to and I'm trying to get better at responding! A lot of times, I just get distracted lol
What is the fic you wrote with the angriest ending? I've actually never finished a fic (yikes) but I predict it'll probably be my WWII coxstroke AU, just because of war and stuff. As much as I want the ending to be happy (and a lot of it will), I want to be realistic to a soldier's mindset at the end of a grisly war.
What is the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Again, never finished a fic, but I think it'll be my Locklyle fic. They need a happy ending and I'm also still mourning the cancellation of Lockwood and Co., so yeah. Probably them.
Do you get hate on fics? Strangely, I haven't. Maybe not enough people have read them, but I've never really gotten a mean comment. Shoutout to what haters I might have though, love you guys
Do you write smut? Maaaaaaaaaaaaybe. I've never really written any sexual content until recently. I'll probably write some sexual content but not like full on smut. I don't think I'd be good at it lol
Craziest crossover? I've never written one!
Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not to my knowledge, thank goodness
Have you ever had a fic translated? No, but I'm absolutely open to it!
Have you ever co-written a fic before? No, but I think it'd be fun! Especially now that I'm mutuals with a lot of fic writers in the tbitb fandom
All time favorite ship Oooooooooooo, it's probably Harley Keener/Peter Parker. They've had a special place in my heart for a LONG time
What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? Probably something I haven't written yet. I'm trying my best to finish all the stories I have posted except my 1917 one, just because I'm no longer super involved in that fandom. I'd like to do a Joseph Liebgott story or maybe a Joshler/Twenty One Pilots fic, but I don't know if I will.
What are your writing strengths? Dialogue and a lot of angst. I gotta make my characters suffer lol
Thoughts on dialogue in another language? As long as y'all are good with it obviously coming from Google translate, then sure
First fandom you wrote in? It was Once Upon A Time when I was in like seventh grade. I had a OUAT Peter Pan fic on Wattpad that actually got pretty popular. I'm sad I never finished it (it is gone forever, sadly).
Favorite fic you've written? Definitely Proof That Harley Keener Has A Heart. That fic has been a labor of love for almost five years and I'm very excited to finally finish that slowburn
There's no 20th question apparently lol

Why it's the right time for a third season of The Spectacular Spider-Man
While Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man: The Animated Series were my introduction to the character of Spidey, Spectacular Spider-Man was how I truly fell in love with the character.
I was obsessed with the show as a child. I had nearly every action figure, I'd rewatch episodes (shoutout "Group Therapy", it's my favorite), and even tried to make the theme song my ringtone.
As I went on in my years and consumed so much Spider-Man content, I always found myself comparing it to Spectacular Spider-Man.
Did the voice match as well as Keaton's, was the style of the character simple yet unique to what we've seen before, how are the quips?
I did this so much, that earlier this year I wondered if I was just wearing nostalgia glasses. That maybe I was misremembering as one does. So, I rewatched the entire show with my partner...
...and I was NOT.
It is concise, it is beautiful, and every episode at the very least is fun. There is no villain that doesn't get their due, there is no arc that isn't important, and there is not a moment where Josh Keaton is embodying the best voice for Peter Parker or Spider-Man.
As you might've been able to tell by my Young Justice article, I am a huge fan of the storytelling ability of Greg Weismann. But I think it is really put on display in this show. Every beat feels important, most characters have solid arcs, and suspense and danger always feel real and earned.
With my rewatch, Spectacular Spider-Man's recent inclusion in Across the Spider-Verse, and the fanbase continuing to rage on, I thought I'd put my two cents in as to why it's time this show is brought back.
Clearly I'm biased but I don't care.
1. New Villains
Spectacular Spider-Man had a great way of bringing in classic villains and even B-list villains and making them iconic.
My favorite example of this was The Shocker, who in this version was also Montana, leader of the Enforcers.
By doing this, they made one of Spider-Man silliest enemies into a character who feels like the most qualified killer in every room he's in.
Because such time has passed since season 2, new and different Spider-Man villains have entered the zeitgeist. The Prowler, The Spot, and Mr Negative are great examples of villains who weren't well known when the show was originally going on.
There were also several different villains teased during the 1st and 2nd season. The promise of Carnage, Hydro Man, Man-Wolf, and Hobgoblin never came to be, and fans of the show remember!
Much like every character, several villains in the show were left on cliffhangers. Hammerhead and Silver Sable were left without any bosses. Harry was left fatherless. Black Cat hates Spider-Man for letting her father stay in prison. And New York was left without a Big Man.
It'd be very exciting to see who might take over after a situation like that.
2. New Heroes
Unlike other superhero shows, Spectacular Spider-Man lacks many if any team ups.
Since it's cancellation, we have had several Spider-Verse crossovers, and Spider-Gwen and Miles Morales have entered the main stream.
Making Gwen a Spider and introducing Miles into the friend group could add more tension to the Peter and Harry dynamic as he feels left out and an eerie feeling something is going on.
The potential for Spectacular Spider-Man to enter a wider Marvel universe is now possible, with Disney now owning the rights for television.
We could see Peter join the Avengers, fight alongside Ms. Marvel, even switch bodies with Wolverine.
I'm not saying this SHOULD happen, but we do know that Greg Weismann knows how to build out a universe.
3. Not Enough (Good) Animated Spidey Content
Since Spectacular Spider-Man, we've had two different animated Spider-Man shows. Ultimate Spider-Man and Marvel's Spider-Man.
While Ultimate Spider-Man had a silly interesting tone, and an overarching story that was interesting at times, it paled in comparison to what came before.
Many of the characters lacked depth, and the jokes just didn't hit the same. But at least that show had charm.
Marvel's Spider-Man did not.
The animation was boring, the characters lacked the fun and whimsy of both the others, and every character felt exaggerated. It was painful to watch.
The next Spider-Man show we are getting is entitled Spider-Man Freshman year, set within the MCU.
While it looks promising and different, due to the writers strike, the MCU constantly pushing projects back, and Marvel Studios constantly over working VFX and animation studios, I don't see this one coming out any time soon.
Which leaves a window for Spectacular Spider-Man to fill. We've gone too long without animated Spidey content on television!!
and most importanty:
4. Josh Keaton is just the Best Spider-Man
Holland. Maguire. Garfield. Johnson. Lowenthal. Moore. The question keeps coming up. Who is the best Spider-Man?
But oh they are all wrong.
So soon the public forget how perfect Keaton's acting is. He nails the quips like Garfield. The inner monologues like Maguire. The awkward nerdiness like Holland. And he nailed the blacksuit storyline.
He perfected it all.
Keaton's Spider-Man is on pair with Kevin Conroy's Batman. It is the voice I hear when I read the comics, and it works on every level.
At 44, Keaton still sounds like Peter Parker, and could continue doing the show now as if it never ended. But frankly, we don't know how long that will last, or how long Keaton would be interested in continuing this version of the character. Now is the time to give him that call!
In this era of oh so many Spider-Men, it's time the king took back his crown. There's a reason he's the animated Spider-Man that made it into Across the Spider-Verse.
Now is the time to bring it back. The fans want it. Keaton wants it. It would be a win for everyone.
Let's just hope Disney isn't stupid enough to miss that.

Belated salty asks! 3, 6, 10, 23
and some belated answers!
3. Have you ever unfollowed someone over a fandom opinion?
Yep. I don't mind a few differences of opinion and I usually filter/block tags if I don't want to see something but like the rest of someone's blog, but there have been a couple where they were starting to post nothing but things I disagreed with/disliked and I was getting annoyed so I unfollowed. Gotta curate your own experience!
6. Has fandom ever made you enjoy a pairing you previously hated?
Hmmm I don't think so? Usually the opposite, lol.
I suppose there are some very talented Game of Thrones/ASoIaF writers who have made me enjoy Jon/Sansa as a pairing in fic, when I'm very "eh" about them in canon, and only really started reading them because there is so little Sansa-centric fic out there and I find it the most tolerable of the popular Sansa ships.
10. Most disliked arc? Why?
Ooh, it's definitely to pick one, there are so many where I feel the characters deserved so much better. Sooo to pick one:
I hate Peter Parker being mentored by Tony in the MCU, and using Aunt May as in the Uncle Ben role when Peter's already been Spider-Man for several years. Both do a massive disservice to Peter's character, in my opinion. Tony/Iron Man is pretty much the antithesis of Spider-Man, and I feel like Peter's been more subsumed into Tony's story instead of being allowed to shine on his own, as well as the narrative having to gloss over the absolutely appalling way Tony treats him in canon. And the fact that trying to Spider-Man fic on AO3 that does not involve Tony is practically impossible is further aggravating.
And Aunt May things frustrates me a) because her character was basically sidelined for two movies before being fridged and b) because Peter had already given a version of the "with great power" speech when he was introduced in Civil War and the whole point of Uncle Ben dying is that it inspires Peter to become Spider-Man, his whole person is shaped and built on the foundation of that lesson. It makes absolutely no sense for Peter to learn this five years into being Spider-Man.
(But also shoutout to the unbelievably stupid triangle-identity crisis-ski lodge arc in Girl Meets World, without a Season 4 to unpick it, it is the most frustrating thing to watcha and not get resolved)
23. Unpopular character you love?
Oh, so many. Edwina Sharma, Sansa Stark, Catelyn Stark, Alicent Hightower, Mal Oretsev, Matthias Helvar, Fjord Stone for a while . . .
Gale Hawthorne as well. I was absolutely shocked to discover the level of vitriol for him in the fandom, and the total lack of media literacy in the way most people talk about him is so frustrating. I am a Gale Hawthorne apologist and I will hear no slander against my boy.

nick watches spiderman
oh boy okay. agh. here we go. right off the bat the opening is just SO good??? its so sick and for what??? the soundtrack to both films also is very clearly 2010s pop music or whatever but still im a fan. shoutout to 2012 and 2014 specifically (bc thats when the movies came out KJHKJASHG)
peter playing hide and seek with his father in the beginning of tasm is very cute until u realize why his fathers hiding =]
AGH. richard parker.
oh yeah i forgot abt the office. so richards office gets broken into and like ransacked bc oscorp employees (????) were looking for his data on the spiders. is this ever stated in either film? no.
anyway! time to abandon our child and leave the country! - richard and mary parker
we learn basically nothing abt mary btw like we have noooo idea who she is shes just there
OKAY ALSO in the first film when theyre leaving richard says "be good" and just shuts the door. in the SECOND one he holds peters hand and rubs his thumb over it then says it and leaves. idk why its different its probably just a mistake but i noticed
FLASH THOMPSON this flash is soooo interesting he has such a fun character
peter being a scrawny brunette white boy and a skater and photographer in like the 2010s and also somehow being single is baffling to me
anyway hes abt to get his shit kicked in
remember how i said flash is a fun character? hes not rn he kinda sucks BUT he gets better
like he hits peter a few times but he gets better i promise
SHOUTOUT TO GWEN shes awesome she doesnt suffer from "only worth being a love interest" disease she actually has a full character
also her checking on peter after the fight is so cute
most of her character development and stuff comes in the second film bc it focuses on their relationship more but its so fun
"ben parker dont u even think abt leaving that filthy box in my kitchen" "these are my bowling trophies" "oh well then by all means please leave that filthy box in my kitchen" I LOOOOVE MAY AND BEN
ben is such a fun father figure for peter. like he says he doesnt know how to parent and take care of him well enough but honestly? he does a pretty good job
THIS. GODDAMN BRIEFCASE. THIS BRIEFCASE RUINS SO MUCH.
"guess who sold it to him? your mother, thats how they met" AGHHHH THATS SOOOO CUTE anyway whatever back to peter
oh yeah the photo of richard and curt. the start of it all. KGJHSKJGH this causes so many issues for everyone now
peter parker in glasses. i wanna be him.
im genuine peter parker is like prime gender envy for me i wanna be him soooo bad
THE DOOR LOCK he managed to build his own remote controlled door lock its so fun
ben is suchhh a good character to compare to richard. bens not even blood to peter but he treated him so incredibly well. and ik richard was in danger and thats why he left but he also just left his son. its more complicated than that for sure but at this point chronologically thats all we know
curt and richard working together is soooo interesting bc richard was just out here working for everyone JGHSKJHG
"youll find your badge to the left" [peter looks for two seconds] "are you having trouble finding yourself?" MAAM GIVE HIM TIME KJGJKSHF
like yes he snuck into this very important building and stole an internship slot from someone else but still!! let the man find a fake name!!!
GWEN oh yeah gwen is dr connors head intern she is so incredibly smart JKGHJSKHGKJ like u see her intelligence a lot more in the second film but shes so smart and i love her so much im a gwen stacy fan
each of the spiderman villains (or marvel in general) either want revenge or to make the world perfect. or both. gimme somethin new. /LHLH ITS FUN I ENJOY THE LIZARD PLOT
"hes second in his class" "second?" "yeah" "are you sure about that?" "im pretty sure" peter and gwen my beloveds <333
they have such a fun relationship and it drives me crazy theyre so cute jhafkjhskj even when theyre not together theyre still like. friends. (dont think abt the second movie we're not there yet)
i wish i was watching this with someone so i wouldnt have to explain whats happening on screen while also giving thoughts abt it. whos gonna step up and watch spiderman with me.
PETER. HE JUST BROKE INTO THE BIG SECRET SCIENCE LAB> U CANT JUST.
hes a little stupid
this might go without saying but if ur arachnophobic i do not recommend watching the first movie bc this whole lab sequence is just a shit ton of spiders. the second movie should be good but this one is. not.
anyway peters touching things and its not going well for him
OH YEAH CURTS TALKING ABT NORMAN okay so dr connors work is strictly to work on curing norman osborn bc he has retroviral hyperplasia (the osborn curse) hes not actually working to help ppl, thats not what he was hired for, hes here to help cure norman so that he doesnt die from this disease that no ones cured yet
so what theyre essentially doing is trying cross species genetics to see if some animal with like. self healing abilities. (like a spider) would cure norman if used in the correct way. thats also what richard was working on with him but we dont learn abt that for a while.
ANYWAY MY FRIEND IS DOING STUFF SO IM GONNA PAUSE HERE. ILL PICK BACK UP ON THIS LATER TONIGHT <3
#nick watches spiderman#loooove this movie. here are my thoughts for the first like 20 minutes of it JKGHSKJGHKJ

(What if) SPIDER-MAN SHATTERED SIXTH SENSE
THE MEMBERS OF THE SINISTER SIX
1-LADY OCTOPUS
(Hunter Schafer)
Otto Octavius’ daughter takes on the mantle of Doc Ock after his death, assists her godfather using her technological expertise, builds an exosuit for Vulture that stabilizes him and grants him unnatural abilities, giving rise to The Vulture and Lady Octopus. Her first move is to eliminate the Prowler, a key ally of the newly emerged Spider-Man.
2-SPIDER SLAYER
(Logan Lerman)
Alistair Smythe hates Spider-Man largely due to his father’s legacy; Spencer Smythe created the Spider-Slayers to hunt Spider-Man, and after his father’s death, Alistair becomes obsessed with proving himself and continuing that work. Blaming Spider-Man for his father’s failures, he seeks revenge by creating advanced technology to defeat the web-slinger.
3-MISTER NEGATIVE
(Daniel Dae Kim)
Mr. Negative, also known as Martin Li, hates Spider-Man because he views the web-slinger as a symbol of the corruption and injustice he fights against, seeing him as a threat to his criminal empire. His animosity is compounded by Spider-Man’s consistent interference in his plans and the personal losses he has suffered.
4-HOBGOBLIN
(Timothée Chalamet)
After fatally losing his father in battle against Spider-Man, Harry Osborn’s hatred for the masked vigilante grows— a sentiment common in most universes—ultimately driving him to become the cause of Peter Parker’s demise.
5-SANDMAN
(Alan Ritchson)
Unlike most versions, this Flint Marko loses his beloved daughter in an accident and blames Spider-Man, fueling his quest for revenge in this universe.
6-VULTURE
(Steve Buscem)
A dying old man desperate for a cure he can’t afford, with his only hope being his best friend, Otto Octavius, who had nearly found it—until he was murdered by Spider-Man. Now, Vulture teams up with Otto’s daughter (his goddaughter), and together they seek revenge.

Silly little fic idea
Peter Parker is kidnapped, wakes up in an unfamiliar place, two people are there telling a camera that Peter Parker is Spider-Man. Peter starts acting like a normal kid; screa, crying, and telling them he’s not Spider-Man. They say they saw him change into the costume in an alleyway. He says he dresses up as Spider-Man for birthday parties for money cos he’s poor. They say he does tricks and they’ve seen him shoot webs. He says he knows parkour, that’s why he decided to cosplay as Spider-Man in the first place and he used small cans of silly string to use as fake webs. He’s hysterical and the kidnappers are like fuck we got the wrong guy. They somehow have vibranium cuffs so Peter couldn’t escape (that’s why he’s acting so they’ll release him). They decide to knock him out and dump him in a random alley, they punch him and he goes unconscious. Except he doesn’t, he’s still acting. They unlock the cuffs in his hands and feet and BOOM he quickly knocks them both out.
He turns to the camera that’s still rolling and says “wow I can’t believe that worked, I deserve an Oscar for that performance!” And he’s bowing to his metaphorical audience and maybe he does a little fake speech while wiping fake tears “I’d like to say thank you to my parents, who are dead, and to my uncle, who’s also dead, and to my aunt May who’s not dead. And Mr. Stark who helps me with my Chem homework. Also shoutout to Ned and MJ, I wouldn’t be here without you guys!” And then he’s like well let’s web these guys up, so he webs them to the wall and he grabs one of their phones and calls Mr. Stark.
Plot twist tho: Mr. Stark says Peter I can see you!! Peter is like what are you in talking about. And Mr. Stark says the camera was broadcasting to ALL OF NYC (how you ask, I don’t know, not my problem) Peter freezes and turns to the camera where he flips it off and asks Mr Stark what he just did and Mr. Stark yells “Peter you just flipped the camera off!” And Peter is like “so you saw me give my Oscar speech, and me web those guys up?” And Mr. Stark is like “yes we saw all of that!!” And Peter is like “so everyone knows I’m Spider-Man now? what should I do??” while awkwardly waving at the camera. Mr. Stark is like “I’ve been tracking the phone I’m on the way already, just turn off the camera!” And so Peter does and then maybe it goes more into detail about the kidnapping, the acting, and the aftermath of all this happening. Maybe everyone is shocked Spider-Man is a kid and other stuff.
Anyways yeah that’s my fic idea. I have another one that’s less funny and more serious too. Where like he gets kidnapped by a international human trafficking ring and they planned on either selling him to the highest bidder or using him as a prostitute. A little dark for me tho. He does escape tho and he ends up releasing other victims too. It has the same basic intro but a lot of differences. He’s still playful in the beginning but gets more serious once he realizes where he is and how many victims there are.

but falling
tasm!peter parker x fem!reader
summary: as an unusual friendship continues peter realizes the significance of falling. just a little bit too hard.
series masterlist.
warnings: mentions of injury, idiotic teenagers, all the other warnings from previous parts.
a/n: anything italicized like this is apart of a seperate timeline than the storyline that follows--you’ve been warned. shoutout to my best friend (who is most definitely not reading this) for walking me through all of this and making it so much better than it ever could’ve been. i hope you enjoy.
*
peter sits on the other side of the room.
he's cautious with his breathing, a gentle in and out, so that he doesn't disturb you. nor the peace that's been decorated on the two of you in a gentle fall of snow.
so that you don't look up.
it's warm in your room, a bit too warm in his suit.
he pretends not to mind though because your face is upturned in relaxation, your hands are still, lost in whatever homework you're attempting to do now.
peter wasn't really paying that much attention when you told him to be quiet.
"are you staring at me?" your eyes don't move away from the book you have laid out across your lap, though peter can still the subtle tilt of your neck.
"i'm staring at the wall."
peter does look up to the wall, then, but he can practically feel you look towards him, can sense your confused mouth from ten feet away.
*
peter doesn't let himself look away from you when he's around.
he knows that you can't see his eyes, that you can't see his face contort into the shape of desperation, nor the silly smile that he gets whenever you say something while looking back at him.
but, that also means that you don't notice his staring--all the time. it means that you can't see the pages of pain beneath his smile, the meaning behind his jokes, and the guilt that seems to flow out of his mouth with every word he speaks.
he shouldn't be doing this.
it's not a question, it doesn't require an answer, but still, peter is desperately searching for one.
he's climbing through every conversation with you, trying to reassure himself that this is helping.
that you need him, even if he's not really there.
he watches your face constantly, trying to solve the puzzle that's broken in his mind. he used to know the answers-- only when it came to you and all your smiles--but now he feels that you're a mystery. like you'd changed when he did. like you were purposefully trying to keep him on his toes.
he has to remind himself that you don't know him like this. that your guarded eyes are only a side effect of his stupidity.
still, he watches, maybe waiting for you to realize, maybe waiting for that distance look in your eyes to fade away, maybe trying to curve the beating of his heart.
he watches too much, constantly, with an obtrusive glint in his eyes. but luckily enough for him, you don't always know that he's doing it.
spider-man is an anomaly to you, still. a strange friend. a bug creeping around in the dark. his eyes are a mystery, his being is formed out of confusion.
he's just a distraction. just an idle being to keep your mind from drifting. a carefully placed coping mechanism.
he doesn't mind that, he's sure. he's sure that he's more.
and he has to remind himself that he's only doing this to keep you safe. that peter handed over your friendship just so that you wouldn't be hurt. so that spider-man couldn't hurt you like he was hurting peter.
he has to remind himself that he's breaking these unspoken rules by being with you, in any form.
but then the cruelest part of him--the part who feels dizzy when you smile back at him, who laughs at the mere thought of letting you go--argues that he's trying to help.
you needed something to replace the absence that peter parker left, you told him, with shattered glass eyes and a dark laugh.
when peter parker suddenly escaped you needed something to escape to, you cried, with non-verbal cues and secret messages.
he thinks that maybe you both need this. even if it's dangerous.
even if it's selfish, he doesn't think.
he's a cruel superhero, a bad friend.
but maybe that's okay. maybe watching you is fine as long as he's there, as long as he's keeping you away from the dark, saving you from monsters completely unknown to you.
keeping you safe.
he only watches you as spider-man, he knows.
he keeps peter locked away so that maybe he can't hurt you anymore.
*
you peer up at the wall, staring for a moment then looking back at peter.
he's smiling innocently, but you can't see that.
"there's nothing there," you say, questioning but not asking a question.
"it's a very interesting wall."
this is idle conversation, peter knows. really, he only wants you to talk some more. to confuse him with your laugh until his mind breaks.
he wouldn't mind.
you smile at him, fake adoration, and lean a bit closer. "are you going to tell me why you're staring at me?"
"i'm not staring at you," peter promises, equal adoration filling his face.
this is a game you like to play, peter's learned.
he sits there, waiting for you to break. you swore to him that you were just going to do homework tonight. that he was just going to have to deal with it.
unfortunately, peter misses your attention.
"were you napping, then?"
peter waves a gloved hand. "dozing," he shrugs.
you smirk, looking away again, back that the book you're just pretending to read. "got bored?" peter might've answered, but you continue. "because you could just go back to your web. i'm sure spiders need all the sleep they can get."
peter scoffs, familiar. "okay, one-"
"besides, typically spiders only live around seven years-"
"-i'm not actually a spider, y/n, do i look like a-"
"-how old are you, again?"
peter stops. he knows you can't see his smile, but he's sure that you're familiar enough with his banter to tell. still, he lets out a small chuckle just in case.
another game, where you try to figure out any amount of detail he'll let slip.
you haven't gotten much.
"going deep, tonight?" he answers, a variation of the non-answers he always gives you, letting his head roll forward.
you look up again, smiling. "you sound old."
these are the conversations that follow you both in the middle of the night. low and careful voices, keeping secrets in the dark.
there's nothing important, nothing as significant as the secrets you shared with him weeks ago, but peter finds that he's okay with that.
he prefers it. to stay in the dark, in the very place where the most secrets are kept. to pretend that this is helping.
"when i die, everyone's going to wonder what finally got to me-" you roll your eyes, already knowing where this is going. "but really it's just going to be you. killing my ego."
you flip a page. "don't worry, i am fairly certain that will never happen."
peter moves, undeterred by your insults, going to sit on the bed with you.
your body doesn't move, your face doesn't change--but peter notices the way you lean closer, the subconscious movements closer to him.
it's one of those things he knows about you. one of those things that isn't different.
he wonders, secretly in bed at night when it's dark, if some part of you knows that it's him. if that's why you're so comfortable, if that's why you smile at him the way you do.
he sits for a moment, watching the rise and fall of your chest, listening to the inhale and exhale of breath.
but he misses your eyes, your mouth, your smile, your voice.
so he moves a bit closer, watching your head tilt towards him, and then he steals the book from your hands.
your eyes widen in irritation, watching him lay back down on the bed, holding it up to see.
you huff. "really? there are rules, spider, that forbid stealing-"
"what is this?" he asks, disbelieving even though he knows exactly which textbook it is--he read it yesterday.
"a book, i'm sure you're unfamiliar with the idea."
peter lulls his head over to you, appreciating the eyes you have on him. nothing else to distract you.
"explain it to me," he says, his most engaged voice bouncing off against the walls.
you sigh, tilting your head back, clearly annoyed. "i'm not going to explain-" you look back at him, shaking your head, eyes glaring. "did you even go to preschool? or have any sort of education at all?"
peter laughs, noting the gentle quip of your lips.
"-because really, "explain it" to you? what does that even-"
when he laughs again you stop, a suspicious hand coming to point at him.
"you're distracting me," you say, realization and accusation hitting your voice at the same time. peter watches as you look down to the book he's holding, then back to the wall he was staring at.
and then finally back to him, eyes shining in a wave of gentle anger. your smile, unbothered by relaxation.
he knows you're going to kick him out, soon. he knows that you're going to tell him that he's "bugging" you and then force him to look away with your steel-sharp smile. he knows that you're a far too powerful distraction, a relief away from everything else.
and yet, spider-man doesn't really mind, so long as you're looking at him.
*
peter walks alongside you with awake eyes.
he's not quite sure what time it is--you were walking out the door before he got a chance to look at your clock.
but he's sure that it's late enough for your eyes to start to doze.
"you're cold," he accuses.
you, with shaking hands, pull your jacket on tighter and look at him. "i'm not," you deny, with a smile. "are you cold?"
peter looks down at your shaking hands, shaking his head. "we should leave."
"what, spider-man, are you afraid of the dark?"
"no? but i am afraid of frostbite. and snowglobes."
your laughter rings in the air, a quiet shaking of emotion.
he'll keep an eye on you, he thinks. make sure to keep you warm.
*
he sits on your ceiling when you walk through the room.
he watches as you throw your bag onto the floor, slip your shoes off absentmindedly, and fall onto your bed--the image of a long day.
peter didn't see you at school earlier, or, he just missed you.
which, he thinks, is not why he's here right now.
he crawls a bit closer to you, keeping his movements silent. he watches you for just a moment, knowing he has time to spare, and that you look different in the daylight than you do with all the lights on.
but all the same, he smiles.
and then, with carefully placed feet, he moves to drop down on the ceiling, falling onto the floor right next to your bed.
he doesn't get anything out before you shriek, jumping three feet away from him and staring up at him with terrified eyes.
"hey," he says, waving while he waits for you to stop hyperventilating.
"how long were you up there?!"
peter looks up, nothing left on the ceiling except for his shadow now. he was careful.
"couple minutes," he shrugs, shaking his head to look at you.
you, who is very clearly shocked at this development.
"it's four in the afternoon," you tell him, pointing to a clock, giving him eyes that ask him again if he can read.
he rolls his eyes.
"what're you doing here at four in the afternoon?" it's a demand slipping from your mouth, but your eyes are suddenly observing his face, moving from object to object. a line forms between your brow. "you've got a cut," you say, pointing to the side of his cheek.
peter's hand follows your gaze, a twinge blooming in his cheek. he laughs a little bit, nodding.
you move closer, crawling towards him on the bed and reaching your hand out to grab him. but then you pause, seemingly surprised by something, and you pull your hand back, looking up with guarded eyes.
peter's head tilts, distracted by the composed frown on your face.
"can i?" you ask, gesturing towards his cut, eyes cautious.
peter's brow furrows, shaking his head but saying "yes," as he watches you lean down to accommodate the height difference.
your hand goes to his chin, moving his head so you can see the cut more clearly.
you don't say anything, so peter is distracted by the short breaths you're taking. distracted because you noticed that cut before he had.
he's distracted because he can't feel your body heat through the suit. he can't feel your hand moving along his jawline, nor the other hand coming to reach to move some of the fabric away.
he can't feel you, right next to him.
and he's so easily distracted.
"this looks bad," you whisper, so close to his face now that it sounds loud. peter can see through his peripheral vision that you're scowling. "how did you do this?"
peter lets out a breath of air, smiling a little bit at the memory. he doesn't want to answer your question, so instead, he asks: "worse than the stab wound?"
your hand moves him to look toward you, glowering eyes. "at least then you weren't scaring me to death."
he looks back at you, mimicking your expression even though you can't see it. "are you dying?" he asks, unserious.
you scoff and pull back, moving his head once again and pulling the fabric of his mask down so that you can see his cut again. "no, but you are."
"it's a cut!" he protests.
"it looks infected," you tell him, low voice in his ear. "i'm going to get you neosporin."
peter laughs and moves his head away from you. "did you actually get some?"
you smile at him. "no."
he laughs.
"by neosporin, i meant warm water."
peter shakes his head, appreciating your carefully guarded concern, your jokes even when your eyes are worried. the gentle lull of your throat as you smile.
he shakes his head, forcing those thoughts out of his head.
he looks towards you, bringing a hand to his neck. "i actually came to borrow something."
he looks over to the clock, the minutes gone by. there's still time. there’s still time to talk to you.
"borrow something?" you repeat, watching him move to your desk.
"i just need a pen..." he opens a drawer, rifling through your collection, before grabbing one. he turns back to you, holding the pen out. "you're not going to miss this, right?"
"what are you doing?" you ask, instead of answering.
he tilts his head. "hard to explain."
what he really means, he doesn’t say, is that he doesn’t want to tell you. he doesn’t want you to worry.
still, your eyes shift, going from confusion to understanding to irritation. "does this have to do with your cut?"
immediately, peter shakes his head, an adamant denial--even though you're right.
"you can't go back and fight-" your eyes widen as you shake your head. "whatever it is that you're fighting. you're missing a leg, spider."
peter moves a bit closer to you, tucking the pen beneath his palm. your face is strained, but you don't look upset.
worried maybe, but not too much. peter is satisfied with only a little.
he leans down, only slightly, so you can hear him more clearly. "i've got seven more."
you just scowl at him, crossing your arms. "you need to let me clean it before you go."
your voice leaves no room for argument, but the clock is ticking down.
peter came here--no real purpose in mind he knows. he knows--just to grab something from you. just to make sure that you were alive. just to see you once more before the day ended.
your eyes are an appreciative sight. your eyes are a tether, holding him down.
"i can't," he tells you, a change flowing through his body.
there's a difference between your spider-man and new york's spider-man.
he grabs your face in between his hands, a sudden gesture of his boldness, and leans close down to you. "i'll be fine," he promises, hoping his smile comes across in his voice. his hands move to your shoulder, a consolation.
you shake your head, confusion drifting over your skin. "what-"
"i've got to go," peter interrupts, letting you go. "thank you for the pen."
*
"well, i know you have longish hair."
peter raises an eyebrow that you can't see, leaning towards you to observe your eyes.
"how?"
you smile, gesturing for him to move back. "you always run your hands over your head-" you copy the motion yourself, hand running through your hair. "-even though you're literally wearing a skin-tight suit and there's nothing there." your eyes are teasing him, bright as you speak.
peter scoffs. then pauses, silent for a moment. and then: "it's a habit."
you laugh, moving away from him. "don't worry, spider," you say, voice sweet. "i'm sure it won't give anything away."
"hmm," peter agrees.
you raise a finger. "but if you want to tell me your social security number i'm all ears."
peter laughs.
*
peter is distracted when he sees you next.
his eyes are down towards the floor, an irritated breath leaving him at the pain in his leg.
he figured it would be better by today, but clearly, he figured wrong.
he's limping through the halls, unaware of anything around him when he trips on one of the many feet around him, falling against another person.
as his body lurks forward, leg struggling beneath him, his head jerks to hit another head, just as solid as his. the pain is fresh in the air. he moves back quickly, ears ringing.
and his eyes drift up to find you, hand pressing against the sore developing on your head. your eyes are squinted as if adjusting to your surroundings again.
peter immediately feels his heart drop.
"oh god, i-" he swallows, watching you look up at him. "i'm so sorry-" he pauses, distracted by how close you are. "i didn't- i didn't mean to do that."
his hand lifts up, absently, stupidly, to make sure your face is okay.
he only notices it when you flinch away, eyes widening as if you'd suddenly realized who he was. what he was doing.
your head starts to shake, shock, confusion, morphing into something different.
"it's fine," you say, voice small, eyes moving away from his.
peter watches your body crumble in front of him. he watches your face, no longer distracted. he watches your feet, beginning to turn away from him.
and, within a moment, his hand is reaching out towards you, mistakenly, to keep you there. "y/n-"
you look up at him, a warning in your eyes.
he lets go of your arm, raising his hand up innocently. he tries to laugh but it comes out all wrong.
"are you-" his smile is painful. "are you okay?"
your eyes are different--something is in them that peter can't quite read.
"i'm fine, peter," your voice is firm, promising, leaving no room in the air between the two of you. your voice is shaking. your voice is too quiet for a middle of the hallway.
it's the first time you've said his name since that night. it hits him right in his stomach, with the rest of the feelings, collecting in a gentle swarm.
your eyes drift over him, incomprehensible, and you stop on the side of his face. "did i give you that cut, too?"
peter freezes, barely able to watch as your brow furrows.
there is a siren going off in his head.
a warning sign appearing right in front of your face.
he lifts his hand to the wound--still not healed, but not as bad as you'd described it to him yesterday.
his face contorts into something innocent. he struggles to speak. "no, no," he adds the movement of his head. "i just fell."
your concern falls, the other feeling appearing again in your face. you give him a tight-lipped smile, only slightly disbelieving. "okay," you say.
and because peter no longer has a hold on you, in any type of way, you disappear right in front of his eyes.
he can see the back of your head walking down the hall.
but he's distracted by the contempt in your voice. he's distracted by the one feeling he refused to believe you had, the one feeling he'd never experienced from you firsthand.
you were angry, he realizes.
your eyes were irritated, annoyed.
your voice was a struggle to keep calm.
and peter almost wants to laugh. he almost wants to get on the floor and start rolling around in amusement.
he almost wants to scream at himself until his voice gives out.
he forgot--for just one moment.
forgot that peter wasn't the person you laughed with anymore.
forgot that he wasn't really him at all.
*
"...you managed to get a bruise right there?"
peter's hand points to his side, right under his ribs. your eyes follow his hand and then move back up to his face.
"how?" you ask, unimpressed.
"i fell."
you roll your eyes. "you fell and got a bruise right below your ribs?"
"...onto a car."
"you fell onto a car?" you're even less impressed now. peter can tell, just by the way your lips twitch.
"it was late."
"so?"
"so, i fell. aid me. i'm dying." he makes a dramatic show of falling back against your bed, hand cradling the spot he's bruised.
you stare down at him.
"i don't think you're very good at your job."
peter opens his eyes--looking to find you right above him. he raises a finger to your face. "and whose fault is that?"
"hey, i-"
*
when he's at your window, the same night of the same day, he watches you type at your desk for a minute.
he can see you, see the steady rise of your shoulders, the steady composure in your body.
he watches, maybe afraid to finally go inside, maybe scared of the truth he wants to get out because, well, he hated the way you looked at him.
he hates that he suddenly feels like a mystery to himself--someone unknown, someone cruel hidden behind sarcastic jokes. he hates that there’s only one person who really knows him, but that person is off limits, forbidden from his wonder.
he hates that he almost doesn’t feel guilty. that he almost wants to tell you the truth.
but he wants to keep you safe.
he wants to protect you from that anger. he wants you to feel at peace, even when he's off somewhere alone, he wants you not to care.
and he wants your friendship, he knows that, but he doesn't want it if it's just going to hurt you. he doesn’t want it if he has to look at your hurt eyes and reassure you. he doesn’t want it like that.
he wants to see your eyes again. he wants to make you smile.
he wants a picture of every moment he's had with you, upon the wall, to be seen.
he knocks on the window, his knuckles freezing under the suit.
you don't turn around from your computer, but your hand waves up in the air, a gesture for him to come in.
peter doesn't question it, sliding the window up and jumping in without a moment of thought.
you don't turn around when his feet hit the floor, a subtle sound as he limps on his leg.
peter shakes the cold from the outside off, whistling as he moves around your room, observing the things you've thrown on the floor with a non-judgemental gaze.
he feels that he understands this almost immediately--the disarray.
you speak before he gets the chance.
"how's your face?" you say, voice void of emotion. you don't turn around, don't look and see if he'd fixed his suit yet.
peter's head tilts.
"not infected," he tells you, coming to sit on the side of your desk, feet crossing at the ankles. "only slightly painful."
your eyes flick up but your body doesn't move. you're typing nonsense on the keyboard. "painful?"
peter tries to lean down to catch your eyes in a questioning glance. he tries to understand your vague tone of voice.
he can't--you won't let him.
he laughs anyway. "it's not healed yet, so," he lets his voice draw out, tapping his fingers against the desk.
you finally look up. "i thought you had superhuman regeneration or something?" you're scowling, mad at something.
peter wonders what you're doing on the computer, what assignment could be irritating you quite so much.
"i do," peter nods, vehemently.
"and it's still there?"
he continues nodding. "the leg isn't healing either."
your face goes blank as you watch him, then look down to his leg. "you hurt your leg?"
peter realizes his mistake. "uh, yeah." he waits for your eyes to move back up to his face, and then, he promptly continues talking. "what're you working on? seems very-"
you ignore him, looking angry again. "how did you hurt your leg?"
peter winces behind the mask. "i didn't," he blurts out, leg twitching with the lie.
your face goes blank again. you blink.
and then you scoff and turn away, unamused with his alluding.
it's silent for a moment, peter trying to carefully piece together your reactions. trying to piece together his own. your breathing has increased, along with the pace of your heart--peter can hear it this close--but your body remains still.
he doesn’t want to ask, to ruin your concentration.
but when your typing has intruded on the peace and your scowl doesn't fade as a minute goes by, he decides to ask anyway.
"you're...angry?" he wonders, leaning down again to catch your eyes.
you look up at him, annoyed. "maybe your cut isn't healing because you didn't let me clean it."
peter laughs, a bit shocked at your harsh tone of voice.
with your eyes focused on his, he suddenly notices the lines on your face. the tension in your shoulders. he recognizes this look, he realizes. he recognizes the dark cloud of a storm hanging under your eyes. the drip of rain going down your cheeks.
you look tired, exhausted, more than irritated.
"i didn't know you'd be worried," peter confesses, softly, moving to crouch on his knees beside you. his voice is concerned, careful. "i'm sorry."
your head falls, your kneck the only support holding it up. your shoulders seem to relax as you breathe out. "i had to look up a news report to make sure you were okay," you tell him, voice small, ashamed.
peter lets a hand fall against your shoulder, trying to console you even though he's not sure how. he nods.
"it was so strange to see you in the middle of the day-" you pause, shaking your head. "and then you just left even though you were hurt."
the silence drags after your words. a gentle lull of relaxation flooding the both of you. peter can see the anger releasing itself, fading from your eyes as you blink.
you turn to look at him with pursed lips, worried eyes. "you hurt your leg?" you ask again gently, looking down.
peter chuckles. "it's not too bad," he promises, looking down with you.
and still, you shake his hand off of you, moving to stand up and drag him across the room. your hand goes under his arm, around his waist as you push him to sit on the bed.
peter is impressed with your determination.
"what did you do to it?" you ask, standing in front of him with calculating eyes.
peter knows you're going to demand an answer until he gives you one. but still...
"i'll tell you," he says, tilting his head when you scowl again, catching onto the words. "i promise, y/n, but first just let me..."
he waits a moment until you're done searching the mask for his eyes. until he's sure that you're looking at him, clearly, with firey but calm eyes.
peter smiles, knowing that you can't see it.
"bad day?" he asks, knowing now that he can ask the question. that you might give him an actual answer this time.
your eyes shift. looking away from him, then back. "how did you-"
peter tilts his head again, leaning a bit closer to you. you don't move back, don't flinch at his movements. "your eyes, mostly." he tells you, waiting for those eyes to change.
he's sure that he'll be able to read them now.
but then you scoff. repeating his words under your breath like you're cursing them. you scoff again and look away, rocking on your feet.
"just tell me if you're okay," peter whispers, nudging his foot against yours. he's hoping you can hear the promise in his voice. the concern he's trying to convey.
you look at him again, eyes strained, smile pained. "i'm fine, spider."
he leans back, tilting his head at you suspiciously. "you sure?" unserious, he asks the question.
you laugh this time, moving away to crawl up on the other side of the bed, giving peter a chance to swing his legs up.
he sees your avoidance. he remembers weeks ago when you told him that he was a pleasant distraction.
he can still be that now, even with the questions eating away at him.
"so, what'd you do?" you interrupt his train of thought, causing his head to jerk up.
"huh?"
there’s a smile on your face. "to your leg," you nod down.
peter's eyes widen behind the mask. vaguely relieved. then he winces again, dreading telling you.
"you're not going to laugh?" he asks, looking away and rolling his neck.
when he looks back you've crossed your heart, wide eyes.
"i fell."
your lips twitch. "you fell?" when he nods your eyebrow raises. "how?"
"my..." he roughly points down to his web-slinger, an irritated note making its way to his voice. "it doesn't break at the most convenient of moments."
your eyes widen again as your breath hitches. "it broke?"
he nods.
"while you were in the air?"
"mid-swing."
you move towards him, seeming to observe the rest of his body, looking for any more signs of wounds. peter lets you, happily taking the moment to observe you back.
to look at the way your eyes move back and forth, the curve of your face, the gentle whisper coming from your lips--something he can’t hear. he watches your hands, lifting up toward him.
and then you lean back, seemingly satisfied with your observations. "but how did you hurt your leg?"
peter sighs, a puff of air escaping the suit. "spiders don't always land on their feet."
you blink at him. and then, with the kindness only a friend can convey, you burst out laughing.
your head falls back and your hand moves to cover your mouth. peter watches, both annoyed and amused.
"okay, rub it in," he says.
you lean forward again, looking at him while laughing. "you hurt your leg because you fell wrong?" you ask, voice equally dubious and entertained.
"that's not-" but peter is interrupted by another fit of laughter, watching you throw your head back again.
he's satisfied with this. making you laugh. watching you fall backward on the bed. watching you at all. being here with you, in the first place.
he thinks of the contrast between this and earlier today at school. guilt versus satisfaction. who will win?
he almost rolls his eyes at his own redundant questions.
then you sit up again, face more serious, though still holding a hint of amusement. "did you fix it?" you point down to his wrist.
he looks with you. "yeah, mostly. it should work."
"no more falling out of the sky?"
he smirks at you, letting out a bit of a laugh. "not probable."
you nod at him, smiling back. you look away from him for a moment, observing the room around you.
but peter watches as a light comes to your eyes. you look back to him, tilting your head in an act of innocence.
"can i try?" you ask, eager smile.
peter tilts his head. "can you try?"
"yeah, can i use one of them? they're detachable, right?"
peter leans back, reading your face. "why?"
you laugh, shaking your head at him. "you don't need supernatural abilities to use them, do you?" your voice is sarcastic but peter shakes his head anyway. "well then, spider-man, maybe you should be asking why not?" your voice lowers into a whisper as you say it, teasing him with your smile.
peter is taken back by your sudden interest, by your spike in energy, by a strange sort of smile on your face that he doesn’t recognize. he’s not sure he’s ever seen it, in all the years of knowing you.
he stares for a moment.
"you can just say no," you tell him, almost impatiently.
but eventually, peter nods. he doesn't see the harm in it--besides a few broken objects that you'll inevitably make him pick up. and, truthfully, he couldn't bear to let that light in your eyes go, couldn’t bear to miss an opportunity to familiarize himself with this smile.
your mouth curls, excited, and you move closer to him, climbing over his leg. you sit beside him on the bed while he leans up to remove the contraption from his wrist.
as soon as he attempts to hand it over you’re grabbing onto it, turning it so that you can look at all of it.
"okay so, put your hand through here..." his hand guides yours, holding the web-slinger while you slide it past your wrist. peter looks up, checking your eyes.
but you're not looking at him.
he shows you the buttons next, the different settings. he lets your hand adjust to the movement, lets you practice the feeling. he remembers doing this for the first time. he remembers the feeling.
he almost smiles at the realization.
as soon as you’re comfortable he maneuvers your body, turning both of you to face the other side of the room, objects galore.
he finds your smile enchanting, the energy of a child bouncing back onto him. he finds your face mesmerizing, a funny sort of feeling.
"what are you aiming at?" he asks you, leaning his head down so that it's right next to yours. he can feel your body, only inches away.
you laugh, pointing forward. "the mug."
"yeah...” peter draws, face turning towards you. “you’re definitely going to break that.”
it's only then that you turn to look at him, your eyes a different variation of the ones he's always known.
they flicker around his face, watching for any movement.
and peter's hand is holding your wrist, so close to your hand. if he concentrated enough he would almost be able to feel your body heat.
your smile, he thinks, distracted, moved away from the task at him, is blinding. your ability to let go of the worry he felt coming from you earlier--the anger that he saw in your eyes--is a wonder to him.
he wonders how you shut down your feelings, how he can shut down his.
because now, as you look at him, having no clue who he is, having no clue what he’s done, with all your trust.
as you look at him with your peculiarly bright eyes and outstanding smile.
as he holds you, so close to him, so far away from him.
because now, he can't feel anything but the yearning for you.
the wanting he's shoved down, so far, until it seemed fake, even to him.
and now, when you look back at him, peter is almost certain that he can see his emotion reflecting back at him.
he’s sure that you are a mirror image of himself.
and it’s then, in the smallest moment between two unusual friends, that one of your hands moves away from him, a gentle pull of your wrist.
he can feel the other one--once holding yourself up on the bed--move with it. he can feel both of them coming closer.
and when they fall upon his neck, a gentle question in your eyes, he is almost sure that he can finally feel your body heat.
he is almost sure that he nods his head, but he’s so distracted by your eyes.
in an instant, you're pulling at the base of his neck, you're moving fabric up, so terribly slowly but so fast.
peter can barely breathe as he finally feels your fingertips against his cheek, not able to remember the last time he felt your hands near this close to him.
your movements pause as soon as his mask is beneath his nose. but your eyes never stop looking at every angle of his face.
peter barely thinks at all as he leans closer, able to breathe for maybe the first time, and nudges his nose against yours.
and there is nothing after that except skin against skin.
there is nothing except your lips molding against his, pushing and pulling as you both struggle to breathe under the weight of the situation.
there is nothing but you moving up onto your knees, hand going back to the base of his neck while you kiss him, playing with the hair that you've only just discovered.
there is nothing but peters hands going to fall on your waist, the only thing there to keep you from falling off of the bed.
there is nothing except a soft exchange of emotions, passing between the two of you in a steady flow of heartbeats.
there is nothing except you finally pulling back after a moment. you moving away from him, and peter’s hand trying to pull you back.
there is nothing but another peck, a breakaway while you try to your breath. while peter's eyes stay shut, electric with shock, peter thinks, trapped in your trance.
there is nothing but your eyes finally fluttering open while you breathe.
nothing but the memory of your kiss in peter’s mind, the elation of a new feeling.
there is nothing but your eyes, suddenly moving across the newly found skin of peter's face. nothing but sudden recognition hitting you, deep in your stomach, right in your face.
there is nothing but peter, trying to open his eyes, but unable to because he can barely believe that he just kissed you.
there is nothing but your frozen body.
there is nothing, except
"peter?"
his name falling from your lips.

13. What’s the worst character assassination you’ve seen happen?
I know I've already talked about this but, uh, Kindred (Amazing Spider-Man [2018] #70-74...ish... I think...) really did a number on Harry Osborn and I'm so mad about it, and after reading literally everything about Harry before diving into THAT arc (I'm not even joking, I went down the wiki list of appearances) I'm just. I am just sitting here. Wondering what happened to my beautiful boy.
Also mad about this!!!!!! What the fuck!!!!!! Harry loves his family and would NEVER give up. Also taking psychic damage that this series forgot Stanley existed.
"But Kita, it wasn't him, the Harry we saw post-OMD was a clone-" BUUUULLSHIT!!! You're going to tell me that all the work during ASM v2 was just for nothing? That it was a clone + false memories?? And that even pre-OMD Harry, pre-SSM #200 Harry whatever I don't care, that he was capable of being a criminal mastermind???
Goblin Jr. was never meant to BE a criminal mastermind. He turned to the Goblin because he felt it gave him power and strength he felt he needed to protect his family!! He was traumatized by his father constantly telling him he wasn't good enough, literally HAUNTED by his perception of what others thought of him, do you know what killed Harold Theopolis Osborn? The Goblin Serum. The fact that his motivation would be anything but his own self-perception and desire to be what he felt everyone else expected of him is preposterous. I'm still mad. Don't talk to me.
24. Ship(s) that makes you cringe.
I'm running out of examples for this question, but it's still fun to answer, so: post-OMD Liz/Harry. Why. That is a full lesbian and a gay man. Please stop.
@softgrungeprophet said it best as they were witnessing my read of all things Harry Osborn:
also no offense that is the least sexy ear bite i've ever seen in my life
Thanks, Nadia. But yeah, for real though, I would love for them to be friends! They can be happily divorced parents who love their kids.
47. What’s the worst blatantly untrue fanon take you thought was canon?
I consider myself quite fortunate that I don't often wade into fandom circles where I don't already have a really clear understanding of the source material. So it's been more like, "lied to by adaptations" for most of this kind of thing. That and really out-of-context comic panels.
So, with that, and not to be mean, I will say I don't think Spider-Man and Deadpool have very good chemistry in any sense of the word. Not from what I've seen written. Not compared to either of their respective usual supporting casts.
I'll also say that I was briefly convinced that Tony Stark and Peter Parker had ever had a good relationship. After reading the events around Civil War and later appearances, I've decided it's much better when they're antagonistic. (Amazing Spider-Man #13... I think)
And LASTLYYY the adaptations gaslit me into thinking Peter and Harry were friends first but that's NOT TRUE!! Guess who was friends first!!! Harry and Flash. And Peter was mad about it. 😂 ASM Family #4 you are everything to me.
Shoutout also to Webspinners #3. JMD gets it. Also Harry was nursing a crush on Flash since they met in college and nobody can take this headcanon from me DIE MAD ABOUT IT.

I'm bored. Time to do my extremely Marvel fatigued takes on every MCU... Thing.
-Iron Man: Holy shit it's a movie! It's actually a movie!
-Captain America: The First Avenger: ROCK SOLID. Shoutout to Agent Carter for being cool enough for her own spinoff series
-Thor: there is nothing remotely Norse looking about any of this
-Iron Man 2: -10 points for Elon Musk, whole thing is freakishly libertarian, but I like Justin Hammer as a villain
-The Avengers: Look, you can hate on Joss Whedon all you like and probably be correct, but this was the gold standard of superhero movies for a good while and with good reason.
-Iron Man 3: Character development??? In MY bloated superhero movie franchise????
Captain America: The Winter Soldier: trying to be deeper than it is when really it's just Steve fighting hydra again
Thor: The Dark World: well, that sure was a movie.
Guardians of the Galaxy: James Gunn's skill with the needle drop rivals Quentin Tarantino. Not just in this film but in all of his actually
Avengers: Age of Ultron: oh god why is the ROBOT quipping please make the robot stop quipping. Oh look Quicksilver's dead.
Ant-Man: this would be really good if it was directed by a director instead of two million overworked VFX artists
Captain America: Civil War: Hey, y'know that actually fairly interesting character conflict we brought up about government regulation of superheroes? What if we pretended it never happened by act 3 and then completely ignored it for the rest of forever?
Was there another movie here or did I make that up?
Doctor Strange: I love it when rich assholes meet poetic justice and the costume design on this film was unmatched. Although I still think it should have been directed by Lana Wachowski with Michelle Yeoh playing the ancient one but that's just me
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2: teaching your dipshit male protagonist that toxic masculinity isn't something to strive for and showing him how to be better? FUCK YEAH. Also found family in a shitty spaceship my beloved 💖
Spider-Man: Homecoming: this is the closest the MCU has come to an accurate portrayal of Peter Parker, it's only downhill from here. Wait, why is Ganke here?
Thor Ragnarok: It's all the humour of a Taika Waititi movie with none of the compassion. Man's gone on record to say he only makes Thor movies for the money so if this is the price we pay for Jojo Rabbit, Reservation Dogs, and Our Flag Means Death, I'm okay with that.
Black Panther: hey maybe having your villain and only your villain saying racism is bad isn't such a good idea
Avengers: Infinity War: HE CAST TOO BIG FOR HE GOTDAMN MOVIE. Time to strip all these characters down to their barest bones because we don't have the time to do anything more nuanced!
Ant-Man and the Wasp: My Favorite versions of these characters will always be from the 2010 animated series and these ones just don't compare
Captain Marvel: we made a feminist girl power movie! What's particularly feminist about it? Carol gets catcalled exactly once and that's about it!
Avengers Endgame: is it over? No? Oh no.
Spider-Man: Far From Home: Peter Parker is not the "next" Iron Man, he's Spider-Man. Just let him be Spider-Man. Also seriously this is the wrong spidered man for Ganke why is he here
WandaVision: I am completely ambivalent about WandaVision
FATWS: are we supposed to believe that Sam and Bucky are friends? Also didn't fans give Wyatt Russell the 'non white male actor in a star wars movie' treatment for some reason?
Black Widow: 😐
Loki: Started strong and wandered off into the wild blue yonder of selfcest
What if: HEY WHAT IF...? YOU PAID FOR SOME DECENT ANIMATORS INSTEAD OF WHATEVER NERDS WITH BLENDER YOU CAN UNDERPAY AND WORK TO DEATH YOU MULTIBILLION DOLLAR CHEAPSKATES
Shang-Chi And The Legend of the Ten Rings: A post-endgame Marvel Movie that ISN'T hot garbage!
Eternals: couldn't be arsed
Hawkeye: Just different enough from My Life As A Weapon to avoid giving credit to Matt Fraction and David Aja
Spider-Man: No Way Home: Lots of things have been adapted into movies over the years: classic novels, comics, TV shows, plays, even video games! This however, is the first time a comic-con panel has been adapted into a movie. Also, no Spider-Man anywhere ever would EVER say "I just want to kill you myself" get a grip. I think I've now made my point about stealing Miles' best friend and giving him to Peter
Moon Knight: that's not an exciting Easter egg, that's an essential part of the character that you completely cut out and grafted on to the end
Multiverse of Madness: Nothing nowhere all at once. Themes? Character development??? PLOT??? Are you INSANE???? A good movie is one that's nothing but cameos and references to OTHER, BETTER MOVIES!
Ms. Marvel: Y'know, Kamala being a shape-shifter was kind of important because, comedic irony, top text learns she doesn't need to change for others, bottom text is a shape-shifter, you know how it is
Thor: Love and Thunder: haven't seen it, don't really want to
She-Hulk: Attorney at law: please just... Stop.
Comics are very good though! Read some comics!

are you kidding me - peter parker (soulmate!au) part 4
are you kidding me? - peter parker (soulmate!au) - part 4
pairing: peter parker x stark!female!reader summary: during your everlasting rivalry against peter parker, you’re unlucky enough to find out that not only is he spider-man (your dad’s new kid), but he is also your soulmate. god help us all. (soulmate au where you have a mark of where your soulmate first touches you) word count: 969 requested?: yes! warnings: pure teenage angst, a brief mention of smexy themes if u squint, y/n having major commitment issues, sad baby peter a/n: i apologize for the wait! this chapter is highkey garbage but i’m really trying to get back into writing :( shoutout to my girls for helping motivate me ;-; [part 1] [part 2] [part 3]
In the weeks following the patrolling incident, Y/N avoided Peter like the plague. To blame it on trust and abandonment issues, it would never be a fair fight when it comes to her justification. Although she would never admit it, witnessing Peter fall to pieces directly in front of her--half-expecting her to sew him back together--caused her to spiral. She figured, if she never allowed herself to show any vulnerability, Peter would never come to be disappointed with her. The last person she wanted any resentment from, aside from her own father, was Peter. Though this was to contradict their adversarial relationship, Y/N continuously held his opinions to a higher standard than anyone else. Although at this point of their complex relationship, there was truly nothing to hide. Whether it was against his, hers, or the universe’s will, either could hear each other’s thoughts, feel each other’s pain, and understand each other’s sentiments. Despite making it her life’s mission to prevent Peter from ever invading her mind palace, it was essentially impractical to avoid his presence at Midtown. As far as anyone knew, Y/N “Walters” and Peter Parker were “enemies attached at the hip.” Almost enrolled in every AP course possible, participating in the same extracurricular activities, even having the same lunch period made it damn near impossible. Making matters worse, Peter was constantly making an effort to make amends for their less-than-perfect past. Even if their insult guns were cocked and ready, neither party was ready for the cruel and empty words that were thrown at each other. As previously emphasized, the tension that the pair created in the atmosphere was almost overbearing at times. It came to a point in which their peers would create bets on when the “apparent sexual tension” would finally be released--the main perpetrator of such bets being Flash and (at her wit’s end) MJ. Desperately trying to push aside from their individual imperfections, Peter would corner her in the hallways, classrooms, and even her own bedroom to just simply apologize on his own behalf. But that goddamn Stark pride was a worldwide novelty. Y/N, keeping in mind that Peter had already torn into her massive ego, still held her head as high as she could. His criticism fell on deaf ears as she somehow wiggled her way out of every confrontation possible. In school, it was easy to play by the rules of their rivalry. She would always throw the same vicious cycle of signature Stark ™ remarks: “Oh, Pete-y baby, you wanna kiss?”; “Sorry Parker, I’m gonna have to give you blue balls--I have class right now!”; and other snarky comments of the same caliber. However, when it came to the complex--the visits that were few and far between--Peter genuinely had no clue as to exactly how Y/N could avoid him. Usually she would be more than prepared, calling out some sort of security protocol to FRIDAY that would usher him (rather aggressively) out of her room. Sometimes, out of the entire complex until Happy would unlock the door for him. Unfortunately for Peter, once was one too many times for Happy and soon Pepper became his doorwoman. Let it be noted that Peter is a fairly patient person, but when it came Y/N--she tested every nerve in his body. He was never sure why he always felt such animosity towards the Stark daughter, but he physically could not pull the reins on his competitive nature. Mind you, he purely disregarded looks and actual personality (which, trust, Y/N was overflowing in that department) to narrow in on her academic stance compared to his. Now, in the recent turn of events, Peter would take advantage of the rare moments where he could take in her beauty (natural or otherwise). Then, the sudden feeling of rejection would infiltrate any sort of daydream that could possibly gain traction when Y/N would rip herself from his mind. Demanding an obscene amount of space from him, Y/N locked herself away from him--deliberately eliminating any hopes of forgiveness and consolation in the near future. Peter currently sat in his small bedroom, spent from the day’s worth of school and patrolling. Thankful for the lack of crime within the day, he was sprawled on top of his twin-size mattress and still was attempting to catch his breath from the brief altercation he experienced before he finished patrolling for the afternoon. It was yet another attempted robbery, but it was somehow smaller than the encounter from a few weeks prior. Peter stared at his ceiling, trying to devise the best way to confront Y/N and otherwise figure out their soulmate connection.
Please don’t do this right now, Peter.
Wha--I wasn’t doing anything--
How do you repeatedly forget that I can hear you? Even if you think that you are dialing it down, it’s still loud and clear--constantly present in my mind.
Y/N continued as Peter did not respond.
Look, Peter, I want this to work out as much as the next person...but I honestly cannot find it in me to push aside everything that we’ve been through together. I don’t want to damage you, Peter. I don’t know how you are trying to go about this...I’ve always known you to be persistent with seeing the best in people, but I am, honest to God, the last person you should spare with optimism. So, if you really want to care about me, don’t try to talk to me, don’t look my way, and certainly don’t want to come to the compound.
And, in one final sentence, Y/N shattered the last resort of their potential relationship.
I’m sorry, Peter, but I can’t do this.
Without a second to respond, Y/N cut herself out from Peter’s mind.
