chat i would like to propose in universe ctommy tattoo artist

tommy doesn't remember when he started tattooing.

he has a small stick and poke from l'manberg, something stupid he and tubbo did one night with sewing needles and ink. a lopsided 'T' still rests on his ankle, and he knows tubbo has a matching one. they're small and faded and dumb to look at but they face the other when the two stand side by side, and that's enough for them both.

(he remembers tubbo had looked at it in awe after it was done, asking if he could do a bee next, and tommy figured he may have to get more serious about blood-borne diseases)

he practices on himself, writes out POGCHAMP on his knuckles (and then thanks Prime that hand tattoos fade fast). he sports two uneven black circles above his right knee, with small blobs of green and purple in their centers. wilbur had commented on how they looked like a particularly nasty bruise, but tommy found fresh needles, gloves, and rotten flesh on his bed later, so he'd like to call it even.

(besides, he likes how it looks)

he had garnered a bit of a reputation after that, working on whoever would let him. tubbo gets his bee, a whole swarm of them really, niki gets flame dancing up her arm, fundy asks for something or other, but they could never really figure out the logistics of it. it was good for a while.

and then open wounds are too much of a risk to take.

and then they're free.

and then there's schlatt.

in the quiet of pogtopia, wilbur asks him for a flag, the flag, right over his heart. tommy scoffs but takes extra time making sure the ink he's using is just the right color. it had been some of his finest work. wilbur had loved it.

(he tries not to think about how there's a scar running through it now. he guesses some things were never meant to last after all.)

tommy would say that he doesn't do touch-ups, that all his work is perfect the first time and you can suck it.

that rule doesn't quite apply when his best friend has been burned to shit, taking tommy's craftsmanship with it. the skin is obliterated, raw and open, and the bees are gone. tommy offers to do them again, right then and there while tubbo's still hopped up on painkillers, but tubbo just shakes his head and says maybe later.

later doesn't come for a very long time.

when he comes to tommy, back still raw and bandaged, quackity asks for his wings back. he says fuck no but changes his answer to not now when quackity crumples. a few months later, when he all but sobs at his reflection, tommy pretends not to notice.

tommy doesn't tattoo dream.

(he wishes he didn't tattoo himself then, but the smile on his wrist stares up at him, taunting)

(it had been the only thing dream allowed to heal)

he's worse at it when he gets revived back. his hands shake. he's out of practice. his lines are sloppy. he puts a lily of the valley on his calf. it looks like shit.

he does it just to know he's alive sometime, tells people he's 'practicing' when he stabs lines into his skin. it doesn't hurt him, not really, it's just-

tommy doesn't really know. he's so tired nowadays.

it's tubbo that brings him out of it in the end (it's always tubbo isn't it?). he gifts tommy a machine he made himself with new needle adapters, says it should be a lot faster now and you could do the bees again, if you want, and that's it really.

they start on tubbos sleeve that night, laughing like they're 16 again and talking, really talking. it's been so long since they've been together like this. tommy tries out his new machine on rotten flesh, gets a feel for it before he works on his best friend, his brother. as they sketch the design, the sun rises and tubbo has to run home to take care of his son (when did he get a kid?), promising to be back before long.

(tommy thinks of all the promises tubbo has broken)

(he doesn't break this one)

when he comes back, tommy pours the ink with shaking hands and tells his brother you don't have to trust me again. you can live your new life and i'll make do. i never wanted to hurt you. i didn't mean it. if this sucks it's all your fault. tubbo smiles at him, easy and understanding and says yeah, alright.

i still love you enough to stay.

the lines wobble a bit and tubbo has to take deep breaths on the tender parts because he actually does have pain receptors on that side you asshole, but he smiles as he says it. he leaves with his arm wrapped and a promise to care for his new ink, and there's a weight off tommy's chest.

to his surprise, ranboo comes to see him next, hands twisting and looking like a deer set to bolt. they ask for a crown on their left wrist. small. simple. and something that would have taken 15 minutes if they would stop teleporting away every time the needle fucking touched them.

(ranboo ends up calling tubbo to keep them still. the hand-holding and flirting is gross)

(tommy's happy for them)

tommy finishes tubbo's sleeve, and ranboo honest-to-god swoons when they see it and they're all laughing their asses off and before he knows it he's meeting their kid who's so little and looks up at tommy with his big eye and touches his tattoos gently and with so much wonder that it hurts to look at and it's too much and he bolts.

the next time tommy sees the kid (michael, his name is michael), he has marker scribbles all over himself, says like you! in toddler babble, and tommy thinks he may be able to swing an apprenticeship someday.

he sees more people after that. he thinks there's less fighting now, or maybe just less fighting directed at him. he appreciates it, either way. connor gets a sonic tramp stamp, go figure. niki comes back, asks for a lemon branch, and tommy pretends he doesn't know the meaning behind it. quackity comes in, disheveled, and quietly asks for the name Charlie over his heart. tommy does it at no charge. his eternal nuisance ranboo gets alliums and tulips winding up their arms in black and white ink, their husband holding them down all the while.

no, tommy does not cry, he is a professional.

with enough time and some very generous "anonymous" donations, tommy builds a tattoo shop, a real one with clean quartz interior and shiny new chairs and work stations. he offers his tom-toos to whoever passes by, and his portfolio grows bigger by the day. the shop is safe (tubbo's fucking nukes ensure that) and on special days, michael helps him stencil his clients.

wilbur comes in once, and tommy has the strength to say no. wil doesn't come back after that.

tommy doesn't remember when he started tattooing, but now, as he looks across the SMP and sees little pieces of him across boundary and faction lines, on friends and enemies, he thinks he'd be a fool to ever stop again.

I adore both of these headcanons a lot bc 1. It’s literally canon and 2. The Beauty in the Rot (OBSESSED!!!)

I think Tommy’s faith (twitch prime) is so interesting as both a comfort and a detriment at times… he worships and is blessed by patron saint drista with the sacred dagger to hunt those who hunt him and I am deeply gagged by that (they don’t know what they did) (I love psychosis but also I’m right). With the addition of cdream being religious as well…fucking insaneeeeeeee asylum. Insane. He uses his faith to get what he wants and justify torment or bond tommy to him even more than he already has 🙏☝️+ the whole I’m A God thing. BRUHHHH HIS SACRILEGE WILL KNOW NO PUNISHMENT IG 😭😭😭😭 sorry this became a c!disc ramble

my bad that may have been my own personal demons... although it does make me desolate to know more people share this take. but im not exactly unfamiliar with media illiteracy in this fandom.

but tbh it's like fine you dont have to debate people online about their interpretations of characters i personally love to block and stew (and occasionally lose my cool or swagever) and write private metas bc well im not a super articulate person so i hate posting them online. but yeah listen if you see people making dumbass takes that are wildly insane such as c!wilbur groomed tommy, you never have to like. debate that person bc frankly they've gone to a level of reading into shit that you are probably not going to be able to unravel. write your own meta or complain to your friends. i personally do the second one bc i hate writing. but i can attempt a little bit.

cwilbur is a complicated man who a lot of people like to make simple, be that in a negative or positive way. there are far extremes of both interpretations of the character and they both drive me insane. he is a character who requires a lot of criticism and a lot of compassion, otherwise he gets lost in the extremes of "terrorist monster who wants to hurt everyone" or "big brother who wuvs his little brother and would never do anything to hurt him".

cdream is also a complex character but he has a simple goal. power. whether that power come from land or disc or a teenager all on his own, his goal is to be on top. things take an obvious shift from just being obsessed with power to being obsessed with having power over tommy, which dream has always had to some degree but that's bc he fixated on tommy's "troublemaking" ruining the server in the beginning. exile is where he began to just Enjoy fucking with tommy and lets himself want power over tommy for the sake of having power over tommy, nothing to do with control of the server.

both of them meant to hurt tommy. i dont disagree with the notion that wilbur was abusive toward tommy. i just think there is a very clear difference in the way wilbur treated him vs. the way dream treated him. specifically i think situationally, it is very clear that wilbur was in a godawful place when he started treating tommy and everyone else terribly. i think the notion that his abuse started before pogtopia is bullshit and an incredibly dumb read of the characters. wilbur was not secretly fucking evil during l'manburg. he was an asshole often because wilbur's an asshole (but so is tommy, which people who dont actually like his character but adore the fanon version of it like to ignore), but he didn't create l'manburg just to destroy it. he didn't created l'manburg just to hurt tommy and everyone he loves. he made a home for them and when that home was taken, he had a really fucking bad reaction to it.

there is no question that wilbur during this time period hurt the people he loves. but i also think acting like every single thing he did during this period of time was malicious is fucking strange. there is a very clear, obvious fucking steady decline from the moment eret betrays them in the final control room, to wilbur and tommy being exiled from the home they built together for each other, to wilbur and tommy trying to get their nation back, to wilbur watching schlatt onstage and realizing (thinking) he never can in a way that matters, to wilbur becoming a shaken up bottle of paranoia set to explode the second someone opens it. even the fucking pit, which was shitty and gross and makes me yell at the screen every time i watch it, had a cause and effect. wilbur who genuinely thinks technoblade is on their side and trusts not to kill tubbo, to running back to pogtopia and indignant about techno trying to come back, to realizing this reinforces his paranoia and that he was right all along isn't that amazing tommy he was right they can't trust anyone, to putting tommy and techno in the pit.

this isn't the most indepth bc well like i said i don't write meta. but i think my point is clear that overall, there is a very clear difference between isolating and hurting someone literally for fucking fun vs. being isolated by the country you built and having a paranoid episode that your brother is in the front lines for that irrevocably changes both of you.

i think not liking cwilbur is fair enough, he has done undeniably shit things and hurt a lot of people without really making up for it, but i think refusing to engage with his character outside of the surface level is incredibly annoying, especially when you refuse to do that but include your own personal hcs and pretend they're honest interpretations of what you actually watched instead of separate characters you invented in your head.

dsmp might be a mess and people might think they "did more heavy lifting than the creators" but at the end of the day, they gave us very clear groundwork and tons of content and i don't think any of the lifting we have done is actually all that revolutionary to the characters outside of like. fanart. usually the people who do aren't writing the characters anymore. or maybe it's their first fandom and they don't realize it's very normal to have a bunch of hcs and character reworkings. but that's a little off topic.

anyway i could ramble about all this forever so i'm gonna go before i'm too mean and late to work byeee.

Okok at first i thought that Techno would 100% be a fire bender but after reading ur explanation it makes so much sense for his character to be a water bender

And (just an idea! You don't have to include it or anything) i would love to see people assuming he's a non bender bc he fights without using water and then he just STARTS CONTROLLING THEIR BODY!! BECAUSE THATS THE ONLY(?) FORM OF WATER BENDING HE KNOWS!!

Like- that could be a huge character arc for him; learning to use water bending in other forms

For me, I definitely see Tommy as a firebender, he's got a personality that could only be described as 'fiery', hes THE personification of fire;

Persistent, ambitious, never giving up, fiercely protective, and even, consistent and unchanging

Because if we take a look at his dsmp character, he's all of the above! And please let me explain the last two

Ctommy went through a lot of changes and situations but at his core level, he kept those same characteristics that defined him from the start of the story, till the very end.

Yes, he matured and grew up, yes he went through trauma that definitely influenced him heavily

But he (and if you'd allow me this comparison here>) never became a whole different person like i believe cwillbur did. Cwillbur went from an ambitious leader fighting against corruption and false-power to --not only siding with said self-proclaimed figures of power -- but also becoming so corrupt himself, that he got lost inside the chaos around him, and the chaos inside his mind

CTommy never did. Even if it became borderline obsessive at some point, he knew what he wanted/what the goal was;

The discs and L'manburg

The discs; a symbol of friendship to his best friend tubbo (reminding him of who was beside him at those early dsmp moments), and also a symbol of capability for himself. He alone acquired those discs. Not by stealing them, without any help. His first time having something entirely his. It's a symbol of strength, of confidence. A way of showing that he can do anything himself, if he wished.

And L'manburg; a symbol of revolution, of resistance against the ones hungry for power. A symbol of equality, togetherness, brotherhood, family even!

C tommy always stayed true to those two, whether it was the physical embodiment of those or the things they symbolised.

And i just realised I've been rambling about ctommy for around 10 paragraphs, the spirit of ctommy possessed me. I genuinely don't know what took over me, but im definitely not getting saved if im analyzing dsmp in our year of our lord and saviour Twich Prime, 2024

I like the idea of Techno only being able to bloodbend at first, and I think I may incorporate that more into his narrative more now.

What I was thinking for his backstory was that he was ostracised and cast out from his village as a young child, being born albino with red eyes instead of blue he was considered cursed (or at best the child of an affair), but when his bending talent manifested he could only bloodbend which scared his people thinking he was a demon or something, so they left him in the tundra to die.

He survived ofc, but the isolation and trauma of living alone for so long manifested the voices (like schizophrenia but I think maybe it's instead a sign of the blood god worsened by schizophrenic symptoms). He always had them, urging him to bloodbend, but they were worsened to become noticable during that time. The bloodbending and albinism being the blessing / incarnation of the blood god, kinda like Yue was of the moon spirit when she was a baby.

He later learns to control water too, but I think he's quite a skilled swordsman, so for his fighting technique that doesn't involve bloodbending he uses weapons he's waterbended into shape and turned to ice. I'm working on some designs for this I'll post later, but in his updated ref you can see a hilt on his belt which he'll make the blade out of ice with (he could do the whole thing, but it'd be cold and uncomfortable, as well as less structurally secure).

The pole on his back works to make his axe and stuff. Then I think he makes a trident out of plain ice. This also gives them the appearance of being blue like diamond gear which I think is neat.

Tommy is also such a great character to work with, even if Techno's my fav Tommy's probably going to be the main protagonist if I get round to making a narrative. You're so right that he embodies all the firebender traits, I think I will end up going with firebending for him now.

I'm not sure if I'll include c!dream in this au or not considering I'm not really into him, but he does have a lot of involvement in Tommy's dsmp lore and development. If I do bring him in then he'd probably do the classic manipulation, probably try to 'train' tommy or smth and isolates and controls him.

I imagine Tommy's bending is actually pretty weak, or starts out that way cause he never had a proper teacher (methinks the other help him later), which makes him a bit insecure and leads to him learning how to be resourceful in other ways cause he can't rely on it.

I really like the discs being something he didn't steal but earned. I think one of the reasons that they'll be so important to him now in the au is because he's a poor thief who's had to steal everything in life to survive, so to have something he wholly earned himself, along with the symbolism of them, is something that means a lot and he takes pride in it. Thanks for bringing that up cause it'll be very useful for his development.

allow me to pull up some of my art for you and i will ramble- oh my god it has been literally so long since ive done colored artwork i am so sorry everyone wow the depression is visible i see. ANYWAYS.

so its funny trying to talk about designs when so much of how i draw them is just "this is ctommy but in a different outfit" so ill go into stuff that is always visible on them

i think my favorite consistency is ctubbos mismatched horns, its something that i think signifies it as My Tubbo Design. i saw a picture of a highland cow back in 2021 and i thought it fit him perfectly and ive never gone back ever since then. i started drawing tubbo as more butchy recently mainly because of boss and his source stuff to be perfectly honest, he has a lot going on in there. but its fun to take a character who is very often like... twink-ified? and make him into a stone dyke butch. well, idk if hes twink-ified these days, but back in 2021-2022 he sure was. i think giving tubbo a wider build- something these two images dont rlly do but whatever we'll work with it- is really great as a visual signifier for being guarded. hes a square hes got his massive snowchester coat on with its big furry coat and his hair covers his eyes and hes got a laurel wreath to signify coming home from war/being victorious in battle/etc. and he wasnt always a moobloom much like my little fic talked about, he used to be a human but the firework explosion fucked him up so bad the server had to stitch him back together with code from mobs. so the server grows a laurel on him and the server hardens him and tries to make him more resilient for the next fight.

i got insane abt tubbo let me move on to ranboo. i have so much fun drawing ranboo i really enjoy playing around with hair length and horn shape and leg anatomy etc. i used to be a fan of the straight split down the middle of their halves but i just love the mottled look so much i have to do that, mainly because i think it makes an artwork look a bit more polished for my own standards for myself. a lot of my ranboo design is an exercise in balance. his halves are black on the left white on the right, so his hair is flipped to make it more interesting, i give them the classic metfell hair flip because a)ranboolives hair moves like that already, and b)it lets me play around with giving them a little crown on the opposite sides horn. also i give them a bolo tie because i dont think cranboo can actually tie a regular tie if im being so forreal. and they have puffy sleeves because i think it adds to the fact that theyre not really a fighter like the others. though cranboo can hold their own and are a literal blacksmith constantly mining and smelting ores and making people armor sets, theyre not KNOWN for fighting, and so giving them an outfit that is not suited for fighting can reflect that.

when it comes to tommy i am always changing up how i draw him. im really attached to the long braid though, and im a classic butterfly clip ctommy enjoyer i think its fun and ppl who hated it were annoying as fuck. i think my favorite thing about drawing ctommy is that i give him gauges- very small ones but gauges nonetheless because cwilbur got them and he wanted to match early on. he never actually went through the process of stretching but he does have them in. and when i draw older ctommy i like to draw him like hes early on estrogen i think its really fun. same with tubbo i like to draw him like hes early on T. theyre transing together :]

what tma fear do you think c!wilbur would serve?

the strongest fear that comes to mind is the desolation, and not just because he blew up a bunch of shit (though that has something to do with it). i'd say his biggest fear was losing ctommy, whether literally or metaphorically by tommy refusing to forgive him. he literally made lmanberg for tommy, so his loss of lmanberg was something he simply could properly handle, and he reacted by pointlessly destroying all of it. very desolation-coded. also i think it's meaningful that he tried to get a reaction out of cq by blowing up his horse for no reason, but he was absolutely terrified at the thought of killing tubbo or ranboo, and more broadly, of permanently losing his relationship to cq. he would def serve the desolation methinks

HOWEVER i do have some honorable mentions:

the spiral: specifically thinking about pogtopia here. he had a lout of trouble with trust and lies and deceit while also deceiving everyone else (i am starting to notice a common pattern of him perpetuating his own fears. very avatar-coded)

the vast: he cares a lot about meaning something greater than himself, which i go into (or actually just ramble about) here, and thus he struggles with the potential insignificance of himself. there's also his association with vast spaces, such as the sky (the sunrise he loves), the ocean (the finale stream where he went back to utah), the desert (also utah), and most importantly the vast cavern that is the pit of lmanberg's remains. i just cant get out of my head the image of him standing on the precipice of that cave looking into a vast wasteland of destruction, both in the moment before death and in the moment of revival.

like i know it had been a running joke for a long time that oh, c!phil “will” die someday, ghostza will be real, it’s not if i die it’s when but like. after techno’s passing and when phil started talking about writing an ending i knew like...that couldn’t be the ending. on a lighter note, what’s the point of ghostza in a server that’s already dead and empty. and on a more serious note, it just... wouldn’t have made sense for c!phil to die after all that. so i trusted phil and i tried not to stress out too much about it. and when the ctommy ending happened i got a little scared, but when phil said he was still planning an ending i felt okay again because like. i don’t know im rambling but

bc like, all the jokes about shitting on annoying loreheads aside, phil knows how much his community cares for his character. he knows how much we all love c!phil and how we’ve stuck with him through all of the ups and downs of the lore and droughts and appearances in others’ streams and he knows how much we love his character, and it’s clear he cared about his character too, from the time he put in to make sure he was playing a good supporting role in other’s streams, to the lore tie-in for the kristin possession stream, to just...everything. he loves c!phil and we love c!phil and i trusted him to give us an ending that reflected that.

and he did it absolutely perfectly. thank you phil. thank you

thinking nonstop about doublebench man. especially qtub800 but also the rest of them.

i think ctommy and qtommy would be bros more than anything. they ramble about birds together and whenever ctommy goes on a rant about something he likes, qtommy looks at him with this indescribable fondness and nostalgia in his eyes. qtommy and ctubbo make up the Aggressive Defenders of Ctommy duo.

qtubbo and ctubbo have this weird soulmate shit going on. they cuddle all the time. qtubbo is the only one ctubbo trusts to talk to about rams problems. he's also desperately trying to get qtubbo to acknowledge he's Not Fine.

cranboo and qr800 are like the awkward loser and their extroverted partner. r800 is always trying to convince cranboo to do crazy ass shit, and sometimes cranboo is reminded of griefing george's house with ctommy. at the same time, r800 also helps cranboo recover from their time in limbo and learn to loosen up and be more confident. cranboo knits r800 all sorts of cool clothes.

qtubbo and r800 i don't think would even get along at first. there's a little passive aggressiveness because r800 makes a few jokes that kinda cross a line for qtubbo, but then after some time they become chill and it turns into like teasing rivalry flirting type shit where you KNOW they're making out behind the factory.

qtommy is like Vaguely Scared of r800 at first because r800 finds it fun to like pull out their limbs (since they're a robot) but they also joke around. number one candidate for the lamest pranks ever. they'll spray paint dicks onto qtubbo's factories while ctommy laughs in the background.

qtubbo and qtommy fight like a married old couple because qtommy REFUSES to sign the divorce papers and always talks about how it was love at first sight how qtubbo wants to kiss with tongue but qtommy says no. meanwhile qtubbo is plotting his murder. qtommy also tries these horrible pick up lines on qtubbo and cogs always rolling their eyes.

cclingy are like. idk how to describe it the closest thing i can get is like queerplatonic. they're literally cclingyduo man idk what to tell you. despite everything it's still them. best friends to the end, tubbo will fight for tommy when he can't fight for himself and vice versa, they're everything man.

cbeeduo are like constantly soaking in each other's presence, there's some separation anxiety at first due to all the time cranboo had been in limbo, but they hang out together and it's so soft and sweet and aaaaaaa

i think ctommy and qtubbo constantly enable each others shitty coping mechanisms and they stay up all night. when ctommy sees cucurucho he panics because the smile triggers ctommy a bit but then qtubbo calms him down and they both dance to abba. they both infodump at each other with no clue what the other is talking about.

cdream is a rattlesnake. <- heavily affected by tommy HC... Possums are immune snake venom + can Eat them and cdream Is like oh boy I don't have power over him this sucks and boom exile. cwilbur is a bat-eared fox... His hybrid process is Weird because in my head he fits so many animals. Fruit bat, foxes, cats OBV. but I hate going with the obvious choice so I said hmm ok bat-eared fox!!! Also like look at them. That's cwilbur alright... ALSO works well with ctommy. With possums camping out in other animals dens and bat-eared foxes making really elaborate dens and stuff.. :3

cPhil is a vulture! Specifically a black vulture. Because of his whole angel of death thing, I thought him being a vulture would be cool. Also I wanted him to eat cwilbur when he died because cannibalism and the whole thing with when a loved one dies you eat them to have them with you forever (something like that, probably a little off ..) also just look at them they're cool

CTOMMY OH MY GOD CTOMMY I AM SO NORMAL ABOUT CTOMMY

What I mean about “I fuck with the aesthetic” is that he’s Dave striders aesthetic and the homestuck in me finds it endearing.

Anyways ramble time about ctommy is that like. The universe keeps throwing shit at him and he keeps going regardless. Even exile wasn’t enough to bury him in the sea (literally) because he is filled with so much love, even for those who hurt him because inherently he cares. Inherently he is bonded to every other thing on that server. The other members might not get it but they all have an opinion on him and most of them were willing to show up for him and tubbo at the disc finale because punz basically said “yeah he paid me to help out who wants to join me” and they DID.

Anyways side tangent is that if he were Homestuck he’d be probably an heir of blood and the whole schtick about blood as an aspect is that it’s bonds and loyalty and tbf Ctommy is an annoying shit! BUT! The people keep coming back for him anyways.

aa thank you glad you like my cwilbur! he's genuinely my favorite character to write so I'd say I have the best grasp on him, but I also have a lot of other interpretations I keep in mind when writing other characters

(also, note, my characterizations have shifted over the past year. my understanding of different characters changes as I get better grasps on them, so this is how I currently focus on characterizing them in my fics, but it might not line up with older fics of mine)

for ctommy who is the other character I'm most comfortable writing, I'd say the core traits I try to keep in mind with him is 1) the fact that he has very high emotional intelligence, but doesn't really know how to vocalize it or what to do about his own emotions or others and 2) he's kind but he's not nice. like he'll bandage up your wounds, but he's gonna call you an ugly bitch and make fun of you while he does it.

I'm a bit less confident in the way I characterize emduo, especially techno, but I'll list the core traits I keep in mind for both of them when I write their characters.

cphil often thinks that he knows what's best for others and has a hard time recognizing that's not always the case. he also knows how to sound like he's good at talking about emotions, but when it comes to himself, he has no idea how to open up about his own feelings and would rather just keep that stuff to himself.

ctechno is actually pretty good at talking about emotions, but he doesn't like the idea of making himself vulnerable to others like that. he prefers to let his actions speak for him instead, unless it's with someone he really trusts not to use his feelings against him

and even tho you didn't ask I'll add in my thoughts on cniki as well because I love writing her too. she's a very kind person who deeply loves her friends, but she's also quick to anger and even quicker to holding grudges. of course her grudges aren't permanent, as we saw with her forgiving cwilbur, but that took a lot of personal growth on her end to get to that point because she was angry with him for a very long time after november 16th.

for specific character relationship dynamics... hm, that's interesting. obviously crimeboys is what I have the strongest grasp on, so when I write them I try to focus on several key things: obviously they rely on each other to an unhealthy degree. tommy looks to wilbur for guidance and reassurance, and in turn wilbur needs tommy to need him like this because it gives him validation both about his own capabilities, and also tells him that he is someone worth caring about. also, tommy is the protective one of the two. yes, wilbur is protective of tommy as well, but tommy is far more likely to jump up to defend wilbur from any threats, especially physical ones. oh, and tommy can see through wilbur's bullshit in a way almost no one else can. again it's a sign of his high emotional intelligence, but also he can just read wilbur better than most, and isn't afraid to say outright if wilbur is being an idiot or an asshole. and that's exactly why they work so well together, because wilbur needs that bluntness, he needs someone to look straight through him and tell him "you're being a prick right now" to drag him back to his senses when he gets too lost in his own ideas.

of course these dynamics can shift depending on the context of the au they're in. but for the most part that's the general framework I try to work with when writing crimeboys

the way that c!tommy has been lectured and beat down time and time again by the people around him for loving things but still loves so fiercely anyways makes his character so fascinating. he’s been through so much. he’s basically never won. not once. but that doesn’t stop him from loving his friends and his home and his discs and his items so so much.

ok warning im adding in after writing all this i just ramble about bedrockverse and tmmyrp for like a bunch of paragraphs.

its kind of interesting to me to think abt tmmyrp sometimes. like he started as ctommy as this blog that would follow alongside the canon streams. when dream broke out of prison i had tmmyrp act as the aftermath of that stream and freak out on tumblr.

but at the same time hes so different than ctommy. for one i think hes honestly a bit too mature to be canon ctommy in how he handles conflict (i.e.: the argument with technoblade in december last year). hes so different and my silly idea of including every different tommy design by making him shapeshift has now had deep and important connections to the plot. tommy flew michael back to see ranboo when he was revived. tommy grew tulips when he and tubbo ran off to petalsbrough- AND OH PETALSBROUGH MY PETALSBROUGH.

tommy and tubbo genuinely getting scared enough of dream- who unlike in current canon was a real, up close, and consistent deeply terrifying threat- to LEAVE the main smp. the fact that its still connected by a long tundra path of like 1000 blocks to SNOWCHESTER. its so interesting and i love the lore of that location so much i forget it isnt real. tubbo built an apiary there that never got used. tommy built up a house that was nearly identical to his old one because he missed it so much. when dream found their location through ranboo, he started burrowing fucked up tunnels underneath it to navigate the island easier and always be right behind him. when tubbo left for techno and phil's, tommy hid in tubbos house because he was scared. and that nether portal island right next to it where that confrontation happened between him and dream was TERRIFYING but it felt so so canon it was amazing.

the difference there in how tommy acted in an exile 2 situation was that at that maturity level- both the canon amounts of growth and the added bits of tmmyrp- he knew what dream was trying to do, and just went completely blank and dissociated the fuck out and didnt even respond to anything he said.

and during all of that the shapeshifting bits became environmental storytelling. when he died the first time and spent a month in limbo with ghostbur, the flowers went from tulips to blue cornflowers and he gave one to ghostbur before he was revived. the longer he spent with dream, the more draconic features started appearing on him, and he went slightly numb in the rain because bits of enderman also appeared after an argument with ranboo right before dream showed up.

and the way that before petalsbrough and before dream started tracking him down closely, tommy had another argument with technoblade in the basement of technos house. this was after their massive argument too it had been a while. and tommy told techno about exile first before anyone else before even tubbo and i think thats something so important and interesting to think about. and so techno knew what was happening when tubbo realized dream had tommy, and he was the one to approach dream first to confront him. and goddd god the rest is history with that bit it was so amazing it was one of my favorite bits of lore weve done with those blogs if you have the time go back to early february or late january and just reread those threads we did they were amazing.

but also once he was saved, he started talking to songbird again and holy shit the crimeboys era (which we are still in) has been so great. its so similar to canon in how tommy can read him like a book, knows how he works. but tmmyrp consistently goes about it by just acting like HE wants to do something, and wilbur should join him because hes not just going to leave tommy alone to DIE now is he? and so he- while i dont think canon ctommy in any way needs to be the one to "save" cwilbur, this is different theres a lot of buildup and it isnt even "saving" so. yeah. but he swims in the river with wilbur and makes food with wilbur and hangs out with wilbur but not enough.

thats the thing. it wasnt enough. because before casinoroyale joined the group, songbird kind of didnt have anyone. tommy was still quite frankly scared of wilbur, and was off in petalsbrough dealing with dream- wilbur was the only person NOT THERE when dream died. well casino too but casino wasnt a part of the rp group yet lol. so there's this strange distance between songbird and tmmyrp thats been so tense and everyone can feel it up until like. pretty recently. maybe july?? maybe june?? only now has tmmyrp started going and hanging out with songbird in a casual friendly way again. and man i love those threads. the fucking queen dying in the middle of a thread with songbird and having him break down over it was the funniest shit in the world.
