Unknown/Nth by Hozier reminds me of you talking about how Durge must feel betrayed by Gortash even if they can't fully remember why. Especially towards the ending.
The part "You called me angel for the first time, my heart leapt from me/ You smile now, I can see its pieces still stuck in your teeth/ And what's left of it, I listen to it tick/ Every tedious beat going unknown as any angel to me" reminds me of Durge saying "I seemed to have trusted you once before, and it ruined me". They know they trusted him once, and they know they feel like they shouldn't again, but the details are still unknown to them.
"Do you know, I could break beneath the weight/ Of the goodness, love, I still carry for you? That I'd walk so far just to take/ The injury of finally knowing you?" reminds me of Durge saying "for what it's worth, I think I always liked you too." They may still have feelings for him, they might want to remember the good times, but they can't anymore.
"It ain't the being alone (Sha la la)/ It ain't the empty home, baby (Sha la la)/ You know I'm good on my own (Sha la la)/ Sha la la, baby/ You know, it's more the being unknown" - The true tragedy of Durgetash isn't the betrayal, or the death, it's that the only one alive who could remember what they had never will...
"And there are some people, love, who are better unknown" ... and that in the long run, they're better off for it. At the end of the day Gortash was an awful, evil person, who's sole redeeming quality is that he was loved. But not anymore, and so he is best forgotten.
hey anon, you know it's illegal to bring a gun into my house and shoot me right in the heart, yeah? you're going to fucking jail for life now. i hope it was worth it.
