I've technically been in the TF2 community for more than 6 years but I just recently got back into it as of 2024!

My main ship is Gentlesurgery, which I draw quite a lot! If that ship is not your cup of tea I kindly suggest to be polite and just move on, harassment and hate will not be tolerated here. I also have other favorite TF2 ships that I don't have listed above in the "Meet The Artist" template that I may draw from time to time! However, please be mindful that I don't really draw HeavyMedic (Red Oktoberfest), MedicScout (Quickfix/Blunt Trauma), or SniperScout (SpeedingBullet) ships, as those are not ships I'm particularly fond of compared to others (MedicScout cuz as a passionate MedicSpy shipper it just feels uncomfy for me) ;3; very sorry! Part SEVEN of "Clone Danny"

Red Robin, Danny recognizes, steps away from him as he sits up. "My name is Phantom," he signs, blinking the exhaustion out of his eyes. (From Red Robin's perspective, it looks like he has no eyes. There lacks his signature green glow.) "I'm not a gang member, just an out-of-town vigilante."

Red Robin frowns at him, an uncertain grip on the bō in his other hand. "Phantom?" He repeats, no lacking amount of suspicion in his voice. "How can I believe that?"

Right. Yeah, okay, that's fair. Danny shrugs at him, and slumps against the wall. "Google search?" He gestures, he's been out in the daytime before and he's seen the news articles about him.

Red's eyes narrow at him and Danny simply draws his knees up and faceplants into them, half-listening to Red's murmurs into his comm while also trying to get some extra-shut eye.

("Oracle, can you pull up anything on a vigilante named Phantom? The guy here is claiming to be one." Tim says.

"On it."

"Is this Phantom wearing a white mask?" Bruce asks, his voice gruff like an aftershock. "There's a vigilante who shares the same name, but he resides in Illinois."

"Is this guy from that Amity city you visited ages ago?" Says Tim, before shaking his head. "Don't answer that. Yes, he's wearing some freaky mask. I said it reminded me of Hood's helmet for a reason."

"I've got something," Oracle interrupts, "Bats' right. as usual. The Phantom of Amity Park, not much stuff of this guy but he's only been out for over a year. Apparently, his rogues' gallery consists of ghosts."

"Oh great.")

"Look tell the Batman that I'm sorry for trespassing on his turf," He signs irritably when Red Robin eventually starts talking to (re: interrogating) him again. "It's not like I want to be here."

"How did you get in Gotham anyways?" Red Robin questions, batman was on his way to help deal with the situation but Tim doubted he wouldn't get caught up on the way with dealing with petty crime. "Your turf is nearly a thousand miles away from here."

"Two words." Danny deadpans, "Teleport ghost." (Red Robin winces sympathetically.) "I'm keeping this bastard in the thermos for a month for this alone."

(Danny was ignoring the slow-choking anxiety growing in his lungs over how he was gonna get home. He never takes his phone when he goes out, the risk of breaking it was too high. He had no way of contacting anyone to get him home.)

(He swallows the growing lump in his throat, and buries the feeling in the back of his mind.)

"Thermos?"

Danny unclips his Fenton Phantom Thermos off from his belt loop and shows it to Red Robin. "My ghost-catching device," He says with one hand, tilting it carefully for Red to inspect. "I wish I could say I made it, but its a FentonWorks invention."

(He wasn't sure if it was a smart idea to say who it belonged to, but saying it wasn't his probably loosened up any tracks on him, right?)

"Do you work with these Fentons, then?" Red asks, and something dark and shadowy flickers from the corner of Danny's eye. He glances over, and sees nothing, and his hackles raise.

(Either that was Batman, or a ghost, or Danny's mind playing tricks on him. He couldn't feel his ghost sense building in his throat, so he decided it was either the latter of the former.)

Danny snorts, quiet and gruff. "No." He clips his thermos to his belt again, stifling a smile on his face. "The Fentons hate me actually, I prevent them from catching ghosts themselves. Their son gives me their tech."

He had a cover story, so he might as well stick with it, right?

Batman shows up at that moment, appearing atop the little roof where the door is, and giving Danny a heart attack when he speaks in his low, rumbly voice like thunder rolling in, "Why would they hate you for that?"

Danny shoots up to his feet with a startled yell in his throat, clutching his chest as he whirls around and looks up. He nearly runs into Red Robin, and signs a few choice swears at the Bat.

"wow you're scarier in person, asshole."

"you didn't answer my question."

"Of course I didn't, you scared me." and Danny takes a trembling step back when the Batman jumps down and lands on the roof in front of him. He's faced ghosts before, but somehow the living is always scarier.

"But, um, the reason is a bit.. complicated, I guess." He says, fingers beginning to shake as his adrenaline wears off. God is he tired. He wants to go home. "The Fentons are the local ghost hunters and local crazies. I don't know if I can call them mad scientists because they're harmless to the living."

"But they're extremely anti-ghost. I've heard from their son multiple times the very unethical things they would do to ghosts if they got their hands on one."

Danny 'talks' a little more before calling it quits, even telling Batman that he can't tell him more without putting his identity at risk.

Plus, its getting harder and harder to hide his bone-deep exhaustion and his growing fear of being stranded in the most dangerous city in America with no way home.

"I would love to tell you more, believe me I'm dying to." Danny signs, shaky sarcasm dripping from his fingers. His hands are visibly trembling and he's withholding a slowly growing panic attack. "But I would like nothing more than to figure out a way to get home."

"Do you have no one to contact?"

"Sort of. But only one of them could probably come get me and get me back to Amity by sunrise. And I have no phone."

Hi. My name's Woody :) You might know me from old fallout fanart i made or from my silly little fallout ocs. I like to draw and also happen to be a very poor and a very queer person living in Russia. YIKES!

I still can make it do. I'm currently in a university, studying and trying to (maybe sometime not soon) leave this place. It also happened to be that my alcoholic mom hates me and she put a lot of debts on me as soon as i turned 18. I was fine when I had a job, but now I'm in uni (which i can't leave because it is realistically my only chance to leave the country) and also fighting my mental anguish every single day while being jobless SO! how come you don't draw much spirk besides with mcspirk?

in order to answer this question i made a diagram. very scientific, of course.

and i am always very stressed....

ok but to give this a fair shot xD: really like bones... drawing that guy makes me go hehehe and i gotta maximize the happy because i gotta (mumble grumble) do work and get paid and attend school and all that. also there's so many incredible spirk artists and writers out there who love spirk with all their heart!!! sometimes the smaller ship tags dwindle. can't have that >:33 and then there's the matter of personal preference bc I've always been drawn to "imperfect" ships/learning to love someone even if the chemistry isn't there initially! i don't have too many spirk brainworms bc they feel sorta... Complete i guess? and i feel like the majority of people who like my stuff enough to stick around don't mind/in fact enjoy my multishipping shenanigans so i usually don't consciously draw something for a ship exactly but it sort of just happens loll

but tbf if someone sends in a spirk prompt that really Gets me i'll probably do it! (and i'm ngl there's also the other other factor that i actually don't manage to get to all of my asks 😭 i'm sort of shit at doing them in order in part bc the adhd gets my ass sometimes xDD it's.... Summary: Steven always enjoys your drawings and art, big or small, painting or simple sketch and doodle. But he's a bit surprised when he discovers that you have a habit of drawing a certain muse that you have. 

Warnings: There's nothing that I can actually thing of other than it's mentioned that the reader draws Steven when he's unaware, but I don't think it's that bad. Also 'Y/n' is used once. 

Author’s Snip: This was meant to be just a little blurb but I got the writing equivalent of zoomies. You asked for a cookie and I made you a cake with layers, frosting, and toppings. This is insane how did I do this. I think it's because I've been drinking a monster while writing this. I have paused the video that I was previously watching in the background because I am so focused. I'm not even joking this shit is 1517 words long and that is before I proof and grammar checked it. I think this might be the longest writing I've done thus far. Enjoy your free cake, anon.

Steven always knew you drew. You met at your jobs at the museum, at the time, you were working the front desk while he of course worked at the gift shop. The two of you weren't all too familiar with each other since you only saw each other in passing. You knew him as Steven from the gift shop, and he knew you as Y/N from the front desk. You did learn more details through others. Steven was a chatty guy who had an impressive knowledge about Egyptology and mythos. And you were the person at the front desk who did nothing but sit there and draw all day when not granting visitors entry, or in most cases, taking a second to scan a preprinted ticket and check the schedule.

Steven heard talk that you were really talented in your art. You were able to draw what were basically pictures of things you saw or even made up. He hadn't seen your actual art till one day he found you sat where he usually did for lunch, drawing the statue man that he talked at everyday. And wow, were they right about how well you could draw. Though while you talked to each other you laughed "Well of course I'm able to draw him perfectly. He doesn't move.".

That lunch break was a long time ago. You two started dating between then and now. Steven managed to leave the museum for a new one that actually let him be a tour guide. You eventually managed to find work that let you use your skills in art instead of using it to beat the boredom of your job. And you also moved in with Steven in his little flat, in which he cleared out some of this clutter to make a space for you to work and make your own.

You would draw little doodles for Steven to have. Like Gus swimming around. An Egyptian god that you made using his books as a reference. You even drew him a little alligator with a speech bubble saying "Later" on a sticky note. He still has it by the way. He laminated it using clear tape and has it in his wallet as a pick-me-up when he's upset or as a lucky charm of sorts. You always made drawings for him. But never once had he thought that you would make drawings of him. Let alone how many drawing you made of him.

Steven isn't a man who likes to snoop around regularly, feeling a massive sense of ruining someone's privacy. But you said that he could always look through your sketchbooks and art pieces if he wanted, as long as it wasn't a commission that was still being worked on, which he respected. You, like any other artist, had a plethora of sketchbooks of different sizes that served different purposes. There were your personal sketchbooks, outline and testing sketchbooks, practice sketchbooks, a lot of sketchbooks with a lot of different things they were for. It amazed him just how many you had and how you were able to remember which is which.

He knew which ones were ones he gifted you though. Steven was never confident when it came to gifting you supplies. He wasn't an artist himself so he didn't know what was perfect and what was something you would say thank you for out of courtesy. One of the things he used as a safe play were sketchbooks. The bookstore he frequented had a section of art stuff and found that the sketchbooks were not only great quality but also had various designs on their covers. So he'd get you one almost every time he went.

When he looked at them on the shelf next to your desk he realized that he had never actually seen inside of those ones. He was a bit hesitant to grab one since he didn't know if you would want him to. It's not like he could ask you right now. You were out running some important errands and he didn't want to bother you. However, they were on the part of the shelf that you put all your regular personal sketchbooks, which he was allowed to look at so he took a one random from the collection and flicked through the pages.

Out of some coincidence, it was the first sketchbook he got you, which was admittedly one he got you before he learned what pages were good for actual art. The first few pages were doodles that were likely from testing how the paper held up with the actual process of drawing which soon stopped and the rest of the art was actually taped on like they originally belonged to another sketchbook.

Steven thought of that as a clever use for the pages. You would sometimes make art you thought was nice on miscellaneous papers and would simply take the piece with the art out and stick it somewhere else. But he soon notices a theme amongst all the doodles and drawings, which then follow into all of the other sketchbooks he gifted you.

Him.

Most of the drawings in these sketchbooks were of him.

They were all different. Some were him lounging around or taking a nap. Something that would have made him unaware of you creating a drawing of him. There was one that was him asleep laying in bed from what would be your side of the bed. His face was calm, the limpness of his arms and body was captured perfectly, the sheets drawn with the most accurate wrinkles, and the lighting gave the impression of the light of the morning that came in through the curtains. It looked like you simply took a picture of him while he slept but it was clearly a sketch drawn using a pen and pencil.

There was these bust and face portraits that spanned through out the books, of course of him. The first were already so good in detail considering these had to be drawings of him from memory. But they only got more detailed as they went on. You managed to get his amount of stubble right. You had the little baby curls that lived along his hair line. The crease between his eyebrows he had since he always had a slight anxious expression. That tiny little dimple that he had next to his nose that he didn't know existed until you pointed it out one time.

Steven's mind was boggling to him to see such detailed drawings of him that looked so carefully done even when they were simply quick sketches. They were life-like. They were him. They were Steven. To be honest, how could it not? You see his face all the time. So why wouldn't you have him completely memorized. It was just the fact that you had taken time and pages to draw him and him alone.

It was a bit jarring, for the both of you, when you walked through the front door with a hand full of groceries and other things from your errands and he was seen looking at all the drawings of him. You were embarrassed that he finally saw all your drawings of him and worried that he would think it was weird. He thought that he crossed a line and breached your privacy.

You two avoided talking about it till Steven finally did during dinner later that evening.

"You, uh, draw me... a lot." Steven spoke. "Yeah. I do." you blush as you avoided eye contact in case his eyes showed that your fear of him finding your habit with drawing him was strange was correct. "Why do you draw me so much?" he questions. You sighed, "It's sort of a habit I formed." you confess. You proceeded to explain how it started,

"I first drew you as an exercise to get rid of some art block. I usually draw faces of people I know as a means to do that. So I drew you. It was okay. But when I looked at it a couple days later I thought that I could do it again to improve on detailing some more. Then I used you as a study for lighting and colors.".

"Then, sometimes, I would just draw you when I thought you looked pretty or thought of you. And that's sort of what I've been doing." you explain further. "I thought you would find it weird if you saw all the times I drew you and so I just put them in the books you got me and hoped you wouldn't see them." you say in a timid manner.

"I don't think it's strange. I think it's actually quite flattering." Steven clarifies. "I was just surprised that you think of me as something worth drawing. Especially with such detail." he remarks. You breathe a sigh of relief at that.

"If I'm entirely honest, love," Steven spoke up, "Never tell me that you're drawing me from where I am. I'll get nervous and possibly ruin the position that you're drawing me in." he remarks.

How do you work when there's something on the line? I find I freeze, and it's just so much more difficult to properly organize myself to produce something I'm proud of. But you've been to conventions, and you sell your work, so I'm assuming you feel pressure at least *sometimes.* do you work with it? Around it?

Hey Tymbul, it's not a dumb question, it's actually a really good one. I can only answer it to the best of my own abilities, in regards to my own art and practice, so mileage may vary.

This feeling of something being is "on the line" was what burned me out hard in 2019/20. I'd been making and sharing art for decades and all the while my thoughts took the shape of, "it has to be GOOD, it has to SAY something, it needs to hit X and Y requirement to be worthy" etc. Wherever that habit of pressuring myself came from, it wasn't helpful. I would glare at the blank page and curse every sketch I made because it (and by extension, myself) wasn't ever good enough.

I knew something had to change, so I changed. I began trying to make art with no pressure. Instead of pushing myself I let my foot off the brake. I changed the way I talked to myself about art. "I'm going to make this as good as I can. And if I can't, there's always next painting." I began starting a piece with fast, easy, not-precious stuff--random paint smears, doodles, gesture sketches. The pressure was off when all I had to do was start with trash and play around. If it just wasn't working and I had to scrap it or start over, oh well, it was just trash. I still run into this pressure today, though. Growth ain't linear and all that. Old habits die hard. I have to snap myself out of it with a feral screeching JUST THROW PAINT ON IT RRRRRRRRGH and I can usually let up on the brakes enough to get it going. It's a journey.

I like to think of this in terms of dog training. If you punch your dog and yell at it, that dog is going to have fear and doubt and won't be a healthy dog capable of performing the tasks you ask of it. But if you use positive reinforcement, they develop confidence and become dependable and sturdy. If you sit down to make art and every time its a barrage of IT HAS TO BE GOOD! YOU HAVE TO BE PROUD OF IT! EVERY NEW PIECE HAS TO BE BETTER! IF IT ISN'T YOU'LL BE A FAILURE! WHY AREN'T YOU DRAWING YET then man, that dog is cowering in the corner, it is not going to sit or fetch or anything. What if instead you said, "Okay! Time to make something. Let's do warm-ups and thumbnails to prepare so I'm ready to jump in. I am open to surprising myself by making something I'm excited about, but I won't beat myself up if today isn't that day. I know by doing this I'm practicing and getting better, it is never a waste." You are much more likely to Do a Thing if that thing feels good to do. That's just being an animal, man. Positive feedback.

To be honest, though, I still haven't found a successful way to make commissions less like pulling teeth. My method of art-making is to fuck around and find out and that's not a conducive method for a comm, which usually has a ton more expectation and strict parameters and my nemesis: Should-Look-Like. I am good at some things, I am not good at comms. Progress is not linear. I am still learning. My efforts to let up on the brakes made it so the car was a lot harder to control... for better or worse.

Hope this helps. Mostly, my advice is to find out how making art can feel good to you and then make a ton of it. Make more art than you think you should. It gets easier. And don't punch your dog.

Really struggling everyone. I don't have the mental energy to make another fun and exciting promo post.

I lost my bed in the hurricane last week. It soaked up all the water that came up through the floor. I can't afford a new bed, not even a super cheapo one, unless I skip out on bills this month.

I have drawing comms open always, pwyw, anything over $5 will get BOGO drawings, I usually do 3+ per $5 dono. (please check my art blog @rosie-lav-art for my art style, or DM me for more examples!)

It's been unbearably slow at my job for months, and last month was our worst month in 10 years. They can't afford to give me the hours I need. It's just not busy enough.

I also can do bigger stuff, and also digitize it, I just ask that your dono is a bit higher since a few hours of work will go into it.

I also have 2 ttrpg hacks of L+F (a d6 game with no math, very role play heavy, can be as silly or serious as you want), and I'm really proud of them. One is a Sci-fi mech adventure, where you and your mouse friends all pilot a mech and try to accomplish your customizable mission. The other (my favorite) is a collaborative cooking competition where you and your fellow Mouse Chefs work together to win! If you like Chopped, Cutthroat Kitchen, and Iron Chef, but wish everyone was a little nicer, I think you'll love this game.

I also have a third ttrpg coming out soon (I really just need a couple good nights of sleep so I can finish it), it's a triple module mystery game, with lots of opportunities for dark and twisted macabre tales (or silly fun lighthearted ones!). Please stay tuned for that one, I already have a temporary cover that an artist friend very generously made for me, so it's literally just the formatting and flavor text I need to get done, and that'll be as soon as im physically and mentally able to do it.

UMINEKO X DRAWTECTIVES: OGALVY AND MARIA, YORK AND BATTLER

I have much to say, so sorry in advance for the length!

I was rewatching some of Drawtectives before attending one of the NezumiVA Umineko streams and I thought it would be fun to cross the two over! They're both mystery "games" but with vastly different tones and settings.

The first drawings I sketched aren't even the ones finished here but I'm sure I'll get to them soon enough. The one I started lining first was Ogalvy and Maria, or specifically Piss Boy and Sakutaro! They're cuddlie~ I even had my own Piss Boy plush next to me while drawing fo reference! I think Maria just deserves good things and she'd be such good friends with Ogalvy, I had them doing drawings together. The outfit swap was also fun, though a little tricky with how cartoony Ogalvy is. Maria's clothes were a bit tricky to put on him, but I like the way it turned out! Also proud of the facial expressions, hope I got the right kind of "enthusiastic to the point where you don't even smile, you're just totally focused and excited".

York and Battler got compared to each other a while back so I thought they'd be good to draw together, and I love the idea of Battler being a goofy bi disaster. Not only that but given how him being tall is mentioned repeatedly, I wanted to bring in the energy I feel whenever I see someone taller than me. I basically just hardcore projected onto Battler is what I'm saying.

The outfit swap part was a lil tricky but still fun, since York has two key design traits: he keeps on his armband with his outfits and he can't wear sleeves. "The technology just doesn't exist". I took off the sleeves of Battler's outfit, but I still decided to swap the armband around, mainly because the part of York's arm it would go on was geometrically confusing and I didn't want to draw attention to that. The hair was also fun to swap. Battler looks like that one rando from Overwatch and I'm not sorry, but I'm not proud either. It does still look nice to me.

OK! That's the process explained! And now: a call to action.

Hey, peeps on the YouTube stream and on the Umineko tag: you should watch Drawtectives! It's a fun and silly mystery series! There is murder in it but it's still lighthearted for the most part, it's got charming characters, and season 3 is on the horizon! You could catch up pretty easily in time for it to start and have a gay ol time!

Hey, peeps on the Drawtectives tag waiting for season 3: you should read Umineko! It's an incredibly engaging and emotional mystery series! It's got a massive cast with lots of character depth and many puzzles to solve! It's on Steam (but please don't use the new sprites they made they're so much worse than the OG sprites, switch to them), a few other places too, and I'm pretty sure there's even a Kindle Port, but I've been enjoying the readthrough by the delightful NezumiVA!

We've got a really nice community of people who've read it before and people like us who don't know what's going on there. It is a bit longer than Drawtectives I'm afraid but it may not take too long to get caught up on the playlist. Nezumi's also pretty good at warning for the more sensitive content in the Novel which is always a big help. Only thing I'd watch out for is some gorey stuff toward the end of episode 2, which isn't even visually depicted.

i havent been rlly active on tumblr in a hot minute but i had a question!! my boyfriend is trying to get into doing art commissions and hes looking for advice on how to start and how to price stuff so people will want it afakjadfkhj do u have any advice?? idk ur just the coolest best artist i know so i thought youd have good advice

Hiiiii Riv!!! It's so cool your bf is looking to get into taking commissions, I wish him lots of luck!!

I will say,,, I am not a very good person to ask these questions, I have no clue what I'm doing usually, ESPECIALLY on pricing. Mine are only where they are thanks to a little push from my bf who thought my original prices (fitted to taking payment thru ko-fi lol) were too low! But, I can def give just a couple pointers of comms in general:

Be clear about what you will and won't draw, and don't use your own boundaries for the money if it'll distress you. No amount of money is worth drawing something that'll weigh on you due to subject matter

Be careful of scammers. I try and protect myself and my own time and effort by taking 25% of the total up-front, and I don't bend from the options I have for payment unless I trust the commissioner (i.e. If they're one of my friends). That second one is because usually someone trying to pay another way is going to ask me to download a crypto app and that is noooot good. No good.

The advice I DO have on pricing is make sure it feels fair for the time you'll be spending on the art. If I wouldn't spend the same amount of time at work for the same amount of money, I'm not pricing that slot for that price.

This feels corny, but have fun with it! I adore doing comms because it gives me the chance to draw characters I usually don't and designs someone else put lobe and care into and that's so fun to me! Not to mention I get to throw on a show or my music and just sink into art usually without having to make as many decisions as I do with personal art, I just follow the instructions and have fun with it. If it's not made enjoyable, it can turn into an obligation, a chore, so make it something you have a good time with.

If I try to go on I'll get more repetitive, but that's what I hot for now! If he has more specific questions, you can slide him my discord, I can answer anything he wants to know. ^^

Experience in RP — I've been rping since I was a kid back in forever ago before I even really knew what rping was. It all started on a chat site and I wasn't sure what was going on but I liked it LMFAO. I think it was probably about middle school-ish time for me. 6th grade I guess??? So a while.

Best experiences — AAAAA many! I think some of my best experiences rping was when I was doing things with my friends on Twitter and Deviantart. They always inspired me to draw and we were constantly designing characters / joining art rp groups back then which helped me improve drastically. Ughugh I miss doing things like that sometimes.

Pet peeves / dealbreakers — Godmodding. The quickest way to make me drop a thread is making Ozy do something or saying he did something without consulting with me. That's a pretty big dealbreaker for me as I've been put in really uncomfortable situations as a result of people doing this. Also instantly coming at me with ship ideas is a bit of a put off if we like...have literally done one thing / I barely even know you. I had that happen day one of me making Ozy and it almost made me want to leave before I even did anything. Only time I will shake you around and be like, "yeah let's gooooo!" is if we've known one another a long time / I'm comfortable enough to do that.

Muse preference ( fluff, angst, smut ) — That depends. I love writing things where it's deeply discussion based over beliefs, philosophies, and the like. Emotionally charged threads too since that gets my muse really going, but it doesn't need to quite be angst so IDK AAAAAA. Fluff is okay sometimes, although Ozy isn't exactly 'fluffy' most of the time and it's a 50/50 with him and his fickle moods. Smut is nice to write every now and then too because there can be a lot of characterization in intimate moments like this. I don't think I have any kind of definite preference when I think about it -rubs chin-

Plot or memes — Memes usually (or just throwing unprompted stuff in my inbox)! My attention span is absolutely terrible. I like plotting but I have a tendency to slowly lose interest if it goes on for a while as I like getting the barebones as to what we're going to do, have some discussion, then jumping straight into making a thread. Discussing things as we go along and have things already started is just more fascinating for me.

Long or short replies — I loooove long replies, but those tend to be done at a slower pace unless the muse is really gripping me by the throat. I remember the days when I wasn't working and I could get through like ten threads a day or something but thinking about that now has me like, "how did I even do this?" So a nice mixture of short and long is nice! That way I can pick and choose what I feel like replying to that day.

Best time to write — In the weeee hours of the night mainly -- and with music! ////

Are you like your muse — Not even remotely amg. Ozy's too much of everything. He's loud, he's arrogant, and his confidence levels are off the charts on a good day whereas I prefer to be left to my devices, avoiding conversation or faking it till I make it with people, and then dying when I get home because boy was that too much extroverted activity for me FKJSDFHKSDFDS

The sand table's piece was just a bunch of divots in rows from Sunny bouncing along and trying to measure distances. She couldn't think of anything else and she needed to spend time doing something. It didn't help that she was afraid to talk to Caiatl because she knew she would say something about it and maybe start trouble.

So naturally, Caiatl pinged comms.

And she couldn't think of an excuse and she didn't want to just say no. Just act normal and be a good friend.

That immediately backfired, because Sunny's first attempt at pretending to be in a good mood was an entirely fake, "Hey!" 

If Caiatl was going to say anything else, it was gone now. "What happened."

"Freija made me mad, I'm drawing it out on my table."

"Ah. My men found an interesting supply of stationery in the Pale Heart, and I wondered what you might like to do with some of this ink. It is an interesting texture and the color is a rich purple I am sure you will like."

Sunny could have melted. "You got me a thing?" 

The invitation was to a living/travel station near Mars, and Sunny found Caiatl's transmission point easily.

No sooner than she arrived did Caiatl swipe at her and miss as she shot toward the pile of crates along one wall.

Most had been opened and gone through, with stacks of supplies sitting around each one, some on crate corners. Paper, canvas, silk, if any major earth culture painted on it, it was here; paints of all kinds, ink pens, markers, bottled ink; brushes and quills and so much more than Sunny had ever seen before.

"Oh, wow," Sunny said, trying to pick what sounded good. "The City will love this."

"I expected you would feel that way about much of the supply, but this caught my eye when it spilled, and I think you would like it."

The spill in question still stained the floor vivid pinkish-purple in a beautiful sprawl of lines and dots from where the container had obviously landed on its side.

"I do like that color," Sunny agreed cheerfully. "I think I'll need something protective, or maybe an alternative way of drawing with it than I usually do. Humans had a special pen for this kind of ink."

"Search as you need, we will do our best to construct a means for you," Caiatl replied. "And while you do so, tell me what is wrong. I had been hoping to bring about some cheer, but I did not expect refreshed malaise. What did she do?"

Caiatl pulled up a chair while Sunny pretended to be too busy looking to answer. "Normal Guardian stuff, and I told her to quit and she didn't," Sunny huffed, remembering every other time it happened, more often than it didn't. "Guardians," she muttered irritably. She couldn't make it a swear like Caiatl but she could certainly say she didn't like them all the time. 

She didn't look back at the empress, afraid of what she might see. 

"This is very typical behavior of a Guardian, yes," Caiatl agreed, speech heavy and more monotonous than usual. "I don't suppose you'll give me more context, will you?"

Sunny didn't know what to say. "You'll be mad no matter what I say," sighed the Ghost. "Forgive her, she's just got a lot to learn." She finally glanced back at the empress to see her standing frozen, as if she were a statue. 

"Was it the same?" she asked, finally. 

Sunny drooped. "Yeah."

Caiatl took a deep breath that inflated her to twice her size.

Sunny didn't know what she was going to do but it couldn't be good. "She'll quit, it just has to scare her enough," the Ghost said, knowing it was a bad excuse.

"I will scare her enough."

Sunny wheeled helplessly and flew back to Caiatl's side. "I understand, I really do, I want to beat her in the head some days, but please don't hurt my Guardian."

The Uluran studied the tiny drone in front of her. "Define, 'hurt'," she growled. 

Sunny did struggle with that one. "I don't know if I'm okay with you doing any kind of pain infliction at all," she said softly. "I know she needs a kick in the ass but I'm not sure I want you giving it to her."

"Who better," Caiatl chuckled darkly, but she sat back down and gestured at the offering. "She is overconfident. She will get worse."

Sunny wheeled silently and kept her eye on the paper, looking for something sturdy and not too absorbent. 

"Sunny."

"You just want to kick her in the ass," Sunny muttered. "I don't blame you, but still."

"... I will admit that there have been occasions where I wished I could hold her to a standard."

"Kick her in the ass."

"Much the same. Corporal punishment is standing practice."

Sunny didn't want to say yes but she really wanted Freija to stop that and she wouldn't until it was too late, and while Sunny had a lot more faith than Caiatl in herself and in Freija to handle 'too late', the empress was right– with the way they worked, 'too late' might actually be. 

Plus, she did lose a fight and do it again anyway, which…

"What kind of corporal punishment."

"Lashings, beatings. There have been traditions of amputation that we no longer employ. I do wonder if she would prefer having a hand cut off over being whipped."

Sunny didn't want to think about it. "Don't whip my Guardian."

"Are we narrowing down the options I may employ?" Caiatl asked, maybe a little too eagerly. 

Sunny didn't want to answer that, either. 

"I will use only my hands and feet?" she offered hopefully.

Sunny couldn't figure out how she managed to make a threat sound like a request. Diplomacy, she guessed. 

"I will not kill her, nor harm her to such a degree that it could," Caiatl vowed.

Sunny didn't like how much she liked the sound of it, either, and it wasn't like she didn't get shot at every day anyway, and while 'who better' wasn't a good question, 'who else' was.

"Fine. Please don't hurt my Guardian."

Sunny barely heard her on the way out. "Hurt is relative."
