The first day of sophomore year was overwhelming. You had somehow managed to land a spot in a university instead of the local community college you were planning to attend. Jino had been accepted along with you, pushing your relationship to last even longer.
You hadn't heard from Yoongi since that eventful night. During the few remaining weeks of high school, he would completely avoid your presence and made no attempt to congratulate you during graduation. During his speech his eyes met yours for a brief second before continuing to scan over the crowd, making you feel like a simple classmate. You were hurt but realized you asked for this, for him to stay as far away from you as possible. Min Yoongi was good at keeping his promises.
You heard he was accepted into multiple colleges, so many that it was hard for him to choose. Within the state and from places miles away. You were happy with him and realized you did the right thing. You were convinced you would only hold him back, keep him from pursuing his dreams. Even if you were somehow able to leave with him you told yourself it wouldn’t have lasted. Yoongi would’ve grown bored, found someone better than you. You were sure he was with someone now. Someone that treated him the way he deserved instead of having him sneak around for them.
“Baby, come to the game tonight, it'll be fun this time I promise.” Jino pleaded, leaving a trail of sweet kisses down your neck to break you out of your deep thoughts. Jino’s football skills had jumped from nothing to scholarship worthy in less than a year. He was now the quarterback for your college, on the field for every game and bringing in hundreds of fans. He pushed for you to attend each and every game though your work schedule would conflict with the game times.
“Jino, I have homework.” You simply stated, eyes locked on the small tv in your dorm streaming a Netflix show.
“It's Friday night, you have the whole weekend baby come on” he dragged out, face nuzzling into your neck. You accidentally released a giggle and Jino continued his assault, fingers creeping up your shirt. You felt your cheeks burning as his sweet kisses turned into lingering licks on your collarbones.
“Okay! I’ll go” you exclaimed, slapping his hands away from you. He smiled wide, kissing your lips as he cheered.
“Great! Get there early to get a good seat, I need to see my good luck charm to win,” your cheeks burned at the sweet comment. “I gotta go, love you.” You watched as he grabbed his jacket and zoomed out your small dorm room, a goofy smile on his lips.
Your chest suddenly felt heavy with guilt. Jino still had no idea what happened between you and Yoongi. How unfaithful you were. It hurt thinking how heartbroken he would be if he found out. He never brought up the weeks you distanced yourself from him after rumors of Yoongi leaving town surfaced. He seemed to be blind to all the signs linking you and Yoongi together and you were thankful. It made you feel even worse seeing how much he had changed since high school ended. He rarely canceled your dates now and seemed to spend all his spare time with you, treating you the way you wanted to be treated since the very beginning. A bing from your phone snapped you out of your thoughts and you glanced down at the screen to see a message from Jino.
jino 5:54 pm
Start getting ready, you know you take hours and I don't want you to be late!
You rolled your eyes at the true statement and sent him a teasing emoji in response. You jumped off the couch and began getting dressed, taking a warm shower and taking your time to do your makeup. You threw on a pair of leggings and a plain white t shirt, snatching up Jino’s varsity jacket on your way out.
You arrived early but still struggled to find a seat. You overheard the guys behind you once you found one in the first few rows discussing how big this game was. Two of the biggest universities in the state with the best football teams going head to head. You rarely paid attention to sports and had no idea who your school was even playing tonight. It wasn't until the announcer mentioned the school's name that you felt your body tense up.
No way...
The school mentioned was a school Yoongi dreamed of going to. He had bragged about their football team and music division multiple times, completely infatuated with the diversity the school offered.
You recalled the summer after graduation, the rumors of Yoongi’s chosen school flooding town. You remembered your mom bringing it up at dinner one night, announcing that Yoongi’s mom had told her Yoongi’s top two choices. You rolled your eyes and acted as though you didn’t care, whining about not understand why the whole town was interested in some teen boys future.
“y/n he’s one of the top players in this town! If he makes it big he’ll leave such a legacy!” Your father had exclaimed.
You were sure your family was just interested in the neighborhood gossip.
Halfway through the game, your nerves had simmered down. No one on the field seemed to resemble your high school fling and you were thankful. Jino had noticed your presence after you returned from the concession stand with a large soda and chili fries, grinning and waving like a madman. You giggled and waved back, blowing a kiss with a wide smile on your face. You noticed one of the players from the opposite side staring you down and suddenly felt nervous.
Maybe blowing that kiss was a little too much...
Your heart stopped the minute the player removed his helmet, blue hair poking out in several directions. No matter what hair color you could recognize him in an instant. The same gummy smile shining at you as though you were back in high school.  You nearly choked on your fry when he raised his hand up to wave at you and mock your kiss to Jino. Jino didn’t notice the blue haired boy winking at you before snapping his helmet back on, all the players getting back into position.
Your body felt weak, your heart feeling as though it was pounding right against your chest. What were the odds of you seeing Yoongi again? He was supposed to in a different state completely, off at Yale or Juilliard. Not back in his hometown, waving at you as though you were best buddies seeing each other in person after only a few months apart.
You didn’t even realize the game was over until the crowd in the stands opposite of yours burst into cheers, chanting their school's name as the people around you groaned and piled out of the stadium. You looked onto the field and saw no sign of your boyfriend, quickly maneuvering through the crowd to make it to the men's locker room. You smiled to a few of the players from your school's team, congratulating them on a good game. They thanked you but the frowns on their faces showed their clear discomfort with losing to their biggest rival. You moved to step inside the hallway of the locker room, ready to smother your boyfriend in sweet pitty kisses, but a hand on your wrist stopped you, dragging you back out to a dimly lit corridor.
“Well well,” Yoongi grinned, a hand resting beside your head against the wall. He was too close to you. You could see the sweat falling down his forehead, hear his heavy breaths from his victory. His close distance had you feeling as though you were on the team running back and forth along with him, your heart beating fast as you began to sweat. “Isn’t it funny running into you here?”
His grin was wide, his gums on full display. The jet black hair you loved to hold onto at nights was gone completely, a smurf blue color covering his head. You were upset with how well it suited him. It brought you back to his brief blonde phase he pulled off well, convincing you Min Yoongi could never look bad, it just wasn’t possible. His skin was pale as ever in his usual all black attire, the only inch of color on him being his bright blue hair.
When his grin grew wider you realized he was waiting for a response from you. You were far too busy checking him out.
“Not really considering I told you I wanted to go to this school for years.”
“I meant at the football game, sweetheart.” You flinched at the word, watching as his eyes trailed down to the oversized red jacket you had thrown on. “Oh, so that’s why you’re here.” He tugged on the sleeve of the jacket which had Jino’s number printed on it. “Wow, you’re still together? He didn’t care that you were fucking me every time he left you on read?” You remained silent, looking down at the floor, praying someone or something would get you out of this situation. “You never told him?” He asked, peering down at you. His boney fingers gripped your chin, tilting your head up, forcing you to look him in the eyes. “Answer me.”
“No. He doesn’t know. No one does.” You mumbled, ignoring the way his minty breath fanned your cheek. He laughed, releasing your chin from his grip. It was quiet for a while until he backed against the wall opposite of you, head titled with a smirk on his lips.
You were surprised enough that he even acknowledged your presence on the field now he had come to find you just to seek information about your relationship with Jino? You were sure if you ever ran into him again he would’ve avoided you like the black plague.
“So, how bout we do like old times? Celebrate my victory with a sweet treat?”
Your jaw dropped at that, your eyes widening. You were sure you looked comical by the way Yoongi chuckled at your expression, shaking his head.
“I meant ice cream, to y’know catch up.”
“Catch up on what? We’re not old friends, Yoongi.” You spat, arms crossed over your chest. You didn’t believe his cover up for a second. Yoongi shrugged, beginning to inch closer to you.
“Things didn’t end well that night, y/n. At least, they didn’t end how I wanted it to.” His fingers caressed your cheek, his tongue poking into his cheek as silence took over. “I’m here for a few more days to see my family. Deal with some unfinished business too.” He raised an eyebrow at you. I’m just still curious to know how you felt about me. My numbers the same incase you change your mind. Whether it’s to get some ice cream or different kind of treat. It was nice seeing you.”
You watched as left, the same confidence in his walk he had all throughout high school. The blue hair suited him and you realized you had missed him. A lot. His sarcastic snarky comments about everything, his lame jokes that somehow made you laugh, and the softness of his lips against yours. After nearly two years apart you realized then and there that you were in love with Min Yoongi. This time, you weren’t gonna let him slip by.
“Hello?”
“Yoongi? Hi, it’s me.”
“Me, who?” You heard the teasing tone in his voice and rolled your eyes, feeling the urge to hang up on him. He must’ve sensed it through your silence and laughed, quickly blurting out that it was a joke. “So, decided to take up my offer, huh?”
“Actually... kind of. I want to meet. At the diner we used to go to. No ice cream, nothing sexual at all I just want to talk. Please?”
Yoongi coughed over the phone, surprised by your request. “Uh, yeah sure, when?”
“Could you come now? I know it’s sudden but I’m already there and I just need to talk to you.” You hated how weak you sounded.
“Yeah, I’m on my way now give me ten minutes alright?”
“Okay.” You hung up and set your phone on the table, resting your chin in the palm of your hands. It had been a few days since the game night where you ran into Yoongi. He was still in town you heard from some friends to visit his family and just spend time in his hometown. He never texted or called you like you expected and you never once ran into him out on the streets. He was still clouding your mind and you decided to meet up with him and do things properly like you should’ve done the night things ended. Tell him your true feelings, even if he didn’t feel the same.
Each chime from the front door had your heart racing, head snapping up to see if it was finally Yoongi entering. After the sixth chime and the tired waitress shouting out a weak greeting, you noticed the mop of blue hair bring color to the dull room, frantically searching around the room. When his eyes spotted you, he smiled and made his way over to the booth, sliding into the seat directly in front of you.
“Hi,” He greeted, reaching over and caressing your hand in his.
“Hey” you muttered, chewing on the inside of your cheek.
“So, you wanted to talk?”
“Yes.”
“About?”
“That night... when I ended things and left you.” You paused, your chest feeling heavy. “First, I’m so sorry for even getting you into that. I should’ve never started messing around behind Jino’s back in the first place.”
“Oh,” Yoongi dropped your hand, leaning back in his seat to set up his chill demeanor.
“Wait! Let me finished,” you stuttered out before he had the opportunity to spin things around. “I should’ve told you the truth and left Jino, it wasn’t right for me to sneak around with you when I had feelings for you.”
Yoongi seemed dumbfounded, his eyes wide as he stared you down.
“I told you I didn’t have feelings for you that night...and maybe at the time I thought I didn’t but..” Yoongi inched closer, his heart swelling up with anticipation. “I did. I still do. When I saw you the other night it all came back to me. I thought if I stayed with Jino I’d be happy. He made me feel so comfortable Yoongi and you were just too good for me,”
“y/n, how could you say that? You shoved me away that night because you thought you weren’t enough for me? Are you crazy? I’ve replayed that night so many times in my head wondering what I did wrong. If I read the signs wrong. God, I was so in love with you after our first night together it was torture seeing you run back to him but I knew you’d never leave him so I just let it happen.I had no idea you felt the same way about me I did about you.” His confession brought tears to your eyes, your heart aching at the sweet words.
“I dumped him the night of the game It was right after I saw you. I just needed to think and after I saw you that night all I could think about was you. I’m so sorry.” You whispered, hot tears streaming down your face. Yoongi rose from his seat, moving beside you to cradle you in his arms.
“Does this mean you’re all mine or is it too soon?” He asked after your cries seem to calm down.
“I’m all yours Min Yoongi, all yours” you whispered, smiling at his gummy grin. He leaned down, giving your lips a sweet kiss.
“Finally.”
