ngl it still hits me like a speeding bullet when i get remind that devin and nova are still Soulmates (ex: their both fairies).

truly u are one of, if not my favorite authors ever cause like. you yes and ur horror. a lot of deconstruction type horror ends up going "the premise is bad AND untrue, even, which is why its bad" but ur always completely willing to go with "the premise is true. and awful. lets explore that" which hits me SO much harder tbh

it's no secret that i Really dislike fluffy soulmate stuff. i even get squicked out by the ones that are "inclusive" by having non-monogamous and platonic soulmates, because the idea of relationships being fated and predestined and inevitable and inescapable just.... freaks me out.

the same is true of a bunch of other horror stuff in both my fanfic and original fiction.

it feels disingenuous not to engage! you get a MUCH more interesting story out of going, "okay, what would this premise MEAN for people?? and how would it be exploited??" than by going, "ha! and it was all a dogshit lie the whole time!!"

like, if i want to write meta about why soulmates don't work and why soulmate AUs make me anxious, i can (and do) just make a tumblr post. fiction itself is too expansive and unlimited to self-impose those limitations, you know??
