Heyo all, Mod Mage popping on to give you guys a Christmas present from me.
I didn’t really have the time to be a part of the official Genyatta Secret Santa between classes and making presents for my family and some personal stuff, but I just want to say thank you to you all for various reasons. This part gets a little lengthy, so it’ll be under the read more.
Thing is, I’ve been in quite a few fandoms. Not as many as some people, but a good deal in my opinion. As such, I’ve also seen a lot of discourse (to be very light about some things) in said fandoms. Some of it changed the way I interacted with some things – going in so far as to not really be a part of a fandom, but more of an observer and dropping the occasional piece of fanfiction if I had an idea that wouldn’t leave me alone. I didn’t seek out blogs that dealt in the matters I enjoyed, and only delved into fanart if I was feeling particularly brave. Or sleep deprived. And not a lot of my friends really enjoyed the same things I did at the same times, either, so I didn’t have anyone to really talk to about them.
With this said, I have to say that this: this community, this section, this blog, whatever it should be called, is probably the best one I’ve been a part of. I know that discourse exists in this part of the fandom, and I am not by any means saying that it is perfect so please don’t interpret this as me saying such. But there is something to be said about how kind everyone has been since I’ve been a mod here. I know that being kind to people sometimes isn’t the easiest thing on the planet. But you all… man, I’m still over the moon about how honestly nice you all are, even when dealing with things that could be problematic. I’ve seen conversations like that go to hell in a hand basket faster than you can say “Discord”, so the fact that everyone was very polite about their thoughts and feelings on the issues was a little mind boggling and super refreshing.
On another note, I love looking at all the art and stories and edits and everything else you all have created. I’ve spent so many hours on AO3 and Tumblr and some other sites reading and taking in everything. The art is just so beautiful and just…. Gah, I could spend at least a week going over why my favorites are my favorites, and another three praising those that don’t quite make it onto that list but are still amazing. And you all know how much time I spend on fanfic – there is a reason that that master post is as long as it is, and even if some of the Archive didn’t make it on there for various reasons, it doesn’t mean that I don’t like the work, just that it doesn’t fit here on the blog or some other reason.
So thank you to you guys – the fans, the artists, the writers, the editors, the people who make me feel like this is something good to be a part of, and for making this blog’s existence possible.
I’d also like to thank Mod G. I’ve been following this blog for a long time – probably since last November, when I really started getting into Overwatch in general. Mod G ran this blog solo for a very long time, keeping out the discourse for shipping and making this blog (at the time daily-genyatta) a wonderful place to come. Heck, I’m pretty sure my first ask to this blog is still in the inbox. So I’d like to thank Mod G for making this blog in the first place and providing hours of enjoyment. I would also like to thank Mod G for offering me the chance to be a mod here. I don’t have the conversation saved, but I know it was a huge deal on whether or not to bring me on considering how people can get in fandom and I’m so happy that even with my lack of experience in modding they decided to let me help. So thanks Mod G, both for creating this blog and giving me a chance to help and be a part of it. Hope I’m doing good in your books. ^.^
Happy Holidays from me to all of you, and once again, thank you all.
(P.S. - Genji’s flower crown is made of azaleas and peonies. Zenyatta’s is made of daisies. And his sweater is a knock-off Pachimari that he finds funny because GODDAMN is his chassis hard. A challenge for another time.)
