Ok so like. I’m thinking about the Scrybes and what they all represent gameplay-wise. What their games all focus on and how that reflects on them as a character.
Like. Leshy’s game. We know Leshy’s game as we’re introduced to it first. His game is all about lore and story, engagement. Leshy’s focus is on building a rich world for the player to wander through towards the end goal. The mechanics are a bit clunky and breakable, but it hardly matters because Leshy’s game is fun!
Meanwhile I believe Grimora is meant to represent strategy. We see far less of her game in finale, but what we do see tells us quite a bit! Grimora’s board is a chess board, and she speaks frequently both in act 2 and finale about how card battles against her are/were battles of wits. Grimora’s game is all about taking care and thinking two steps ahead.
While P03’s game is all about mechanics. It’s about balancing and stats and fitting everything together to make something that functions well- what else do you expect of a machine after all. P03, similar to Leshy, ensures that the player is engaged, but where story and lore fails presents you with new mechanics to play with and just flat-out allows you to make over-powered cards, then throws challenging battles at you in return.
And Magnificus? Setting/art direction. He’s an artist, after all. A painter whose work is never done. But the way his battle is set up is very ambitiously done. 3D models instead of simple card art, a specialized disk you hold your cards on instead of in hand like the other games, the pillars and the bell that differs from the others so much…. By the time we get to see a hint of Magnificus’ game, most of Inscryption has been deleted, but… What was left of the assets Magni did have give an interesting insight into what his game would have been had he had the chance.
