Fall Out Boy - So Much (For) Stardust Fall Out Boy released their seventh studio album, M A N I A, in 2018, but a lot has changed within five years. We’ve gone through a presidential election, a pandemic, an insurrection, the war in Ukraine, inflation, and many other horrible things that have been plaguing the world since, but also music has changed a lot, too. Pop-punk has gone from being the step-child of popular music to being front and center with artists like MGK, Willow, and Olivia Rodrigo making it a household name again. History certainly repeats itself, and the genre of music that so many folks my age (in their late 20s and early 30s) grew up with is popular again. It was only a matter of time before the scene veterans came back with a new record, and it’s certainly overdue at this point. Five years is a long gap to go without releasing albums, but it’s around the same gap from 2008′s Folie A Deux to 2013′s “comeback” album Save Rock & Roll. The only difference is Fall Out Boy never went on a hiatus, but it almost felt like it. Guitarist Joe Trohman left the group, at least temporarily, earlier this year, citing mental health reasons, and the other members of the group, vocalist / songwriter / multiinstrumentalist Patrick Stump, bassist / lyricist Pete Wentz, and drummer Andy Hurley, focused on other projects. They were almost on a hiatus without formally announcing it, but it seems as though their hiatus-without-calling-it-as-such did them some good, because their last few records have been very polarizing and contentious among fans. Some of it is for good reason, especially in retrospect, but there was a lot of very unfair hatred and criticism towards their post-hiatus material that they could never shake. Part of talking about their latest LP, So Much (For) Stardust, requires talking about their last few records, because to understand where the band is coming from on this record, you need to put their last few albums in context. Stardust is almost a soft reboot for this band, so to speak, especially for the better. A lot of their younger fans might not know about their infamous hiatus from 2009, where the band were imploding, so they took some time off for other projects to mixed success and results. The band came back in the beginning of 2013, and everyone was super excited, but the resulting album, 2013′s Save Rock & Roll, was underwhelming to a lot of people, considering it went more into pop and pop-rock that sounded like others bands at the time, namely Imagine Dragons. I loved it at the time, and I still enjoy it a lot, but my feelings towards their post-hiatus material is complicated. 2015 brought us American Beauty / American Psycho, and it doubled down on the Imagine Dragons-like pop-rock with more mixed results. People didn’t like these last couple of albums because of how “mainstream” they sounded, and I somewhat agree with that now, because I was looking at the albums through rose-colored glasses. Fall Out Boy are my favorite band, and they have been for years, but it’s okay to admit a band you love makes bad music, or music that’s subpar. I wouldn’t call either of these records “subpar,” because they still have great qualities, but they’re easily my least favorites of their work, especially almost a decade later. They haven’t aged as well as other albums from them, but there’s nothing wrong with that. Where people really lost their minds, and where most diehard fans jumped ship, was on 2018′s M A N I A, their last album. While I’m not as crazy about Save Rock & Roll and American Beauty / American Psycho nowadays, I absolutely love M A N I A, even though I should really hate it, because it goes too far into the pop / pop-rock sound that the last two albums, but that’s why I enjoy it. Save Rock & Roll and American Beauty / American Psycho are catchy, fun, and energetic records with great performances across the board, but their sounds are interchangeable, both within themselves, and within the landscape of rock music at the time. They don’t sound too different from other bands at the same time in their lane, whereas their earlier work, and M A N I A, are much more unique. M A N I A fully embraces pop music of all kinds, but they also experiment a lot more with other styles, such as Afrobeat, Latin music, electronic music, 1960s gospel-tinged soul, and some more straightforward pop-rock bangers. It’s also a lean 35 minutes, so it never spends more time than it needs to. M A N I A scratched the itch that their last couple of albums didn’t, and I think it’s aged fairly well, but by that point, the band was rather burnt out again. Trohman has said that he didn’t really participate in the writing of M A N I A because of pop-focused it was, and the band wanted to move elsewhere in their sound, which is the genesis of where Stardust was born. Most albums don’t require this much context, but Fall Out Boy is a band that needs it, especially because they’re my all time favorite band. This band means a lot to me, and I’ve gone on record many times saying that before, but this band is the first band I ever got into growing up. I have a vivid memory of picking up 2007′s Infinity On High at Target the weekend of its release, and falling head over heels for it. I was into music before that, but that was the first album I really loved, and it set the stage for falling down the rabbit hole of becoming a music fan. I’ve been looking forward to another Fall Out Boy album for years, and I almost didn’t think we’d get it, but they were slowly teasing this record, ultimately releasing “Love From The Other Side” a couple of months ago, and getting people very excited, because it was a “return” to guitar-based music. This song was a rock song, through and through, instead of leaning more on pop flavors and sounds. Make no mistake, it’s not a return to form in terms of 2003-ish pop-punk, but if anything, it builds on what they did with Infinity On High and Folie A Deux, incorporating other styles of music, such as funk, soul, R&B, and pop, among others. The song also marked a return to Pete Wentz’s brand of lyrical wit that we hadn’t really gotten in years, minus a few moments on M A N I A. We got one more single from the album before the whole thing was released, “Heartbreak Feels So Good,” and it, too, was a return to something more familiar, yet also rather new. It wasn’t completely trying to sound like it was from 2008, but it took elements of their classic material and threw in some new sounds and ideas, too, all the while sounding refreshed. Lo and behold, So Much (For) Stardust is upon us, so how is it? I’ve listened to the album maybe ten times in the last few days of its release, and I have to say... It’s fantastic in every single way, shape, and form. So Much (For) Stardust is the album that I’ve wanted from them for years, because it both blends the old and the new. This is easily their best record since Folie in 2008, but Patrick Stump has said that they wrote this album with the mindset of moving away from the technology and production that they used on their last few albums, and writing a record that hypothetically would have came out after Folie if they never went on hiatus. That’s what this sounds like, because it takes everything that they had done up to that point, and puts it in a blender, so to speak. Folie was a record that took rock, pop, soul, funk, R&B, pop-punk, and a lot of other styles, and made it their own. Stardust does that, too, but in its own way, especially when you remember that Stump put out a solo album in 2011 entitled Soul Punk that owed a lot to Michael Jackson and Prince, which Stump brings to this album, at least with his vocal performance. There’s an obvious return to “organic” instrumentation, but that’s not what this album great. It’s their ability to straddle the line between paying homage to their past and looking to the future at the same time. A lot of the songs on this album sound like songs I’ve been listening to for years, especially in the classic Fall Out Boy canon, but I’ve also never heard them. The best instance of a song like that, at least for me, is “Hold Me Like A Grudge.” This song has everything that makes for a classic and perfect Fall Out Boy song -- Stump’s impeccable vocal, Wentz’s clever lyricism, a great hook, and instrumentation rides the line between multiple styles, but it’s still clearly a Fall Out Boy song. There are many other songs on this record that make me feel the same way, whether it’s the opening one-two punch of “Love On The Other Side” and “Heartbreak Feels So Good,” “Fake Out,” “I Am My Own Muse,” “So Good Right Now,” “The Kinsugi Kid (Ten Years),” and the title track, among others. This whole album is great, and it has the ability to have each song follow a somewhat similar sound, but each song is very different from each other. The hooks all stand up on their own, and these songs don’t feel interchangeable, whether with themselves or other bands, these songs feel distinctly Fall Out Boy in the best way. Stump’s vocals return to that sound that he was always known for, and they don’t sound as processed as they have been, and Wentz’s lyrics are a more interesting this time around, including on every song I mentioned. If I wanted to talk about my favorite moments in terms of his lyrics, this review would be a lot longer than it already is, because there are too many little lyrical nuggets to count. The instrumentation is strong on all fronts, especially Trohman’s riffs this time around, since he’s able to let loose, but Hurley is killing it behind the kit as always, too. It’s nice that we have a more organic dynamic this time, because they feel more like a band, which is kind of insulting to say, but their last few albums dabbled so much in technology and in pop music sounds and ideas, it didn’t feel as though they were a cohesive unit. It’s nice to hear them all together now, and it makes for a rewarding experience. Every song is just chock full of things to love about them, and I’ve found myself going back to this album again and again. There are a couple of very slight issues I have with this LP, but they don’t matter in the slightest, because they’re just tiny little nitpicks that don’t bother me that much, but there are a couple of unnecessary interludes, “The Pink Seashell,” and “Baby Annihilation,” the former featuring dialogue by Ethan Hawke from 1994′s Reality Bites, and the latter being a monologue from Pete Wentz, and they’re fine. They don’t add much to the album, but they’re not bad. Wentz’s monologue reminds me of moments from their earlier albums where he would have a spoken interlude that served as poetry, and I could take or leave those moments, but it’s fine. Really, though, the album is pretty damn strong from start to finish, and even though it’s around 44 minutes, it doesn’t feel like it. I’ll be listening to the album, and I’ll notice that I’m already on the last song, when I feel as though I just started it. It’s one of those albums that you can listen to and never get bored of. This is the best possible outcome from a new Fall Out Boy album, where they went back to making more guitar-based music, but (and that’s big “but”), they didn’t sacrifice what makes them good. They could have easily made another 2003-ish pop-punk album and called it a day, but they didn’t. They made a catchy, well-written, and fully realizing pop-rock album with elements of soul, R&B, and funk that sound great. I’ll be damned if this album is not my album of the year. I really will be. Fall Out Boy means a lot to me, and this record brings me so much joy. It makes me feel like I’m 13 / 14 listening to them again in 2007 / 2008, but I’m also 29 / 30. I’m getting that nostalgia, but I’m also hearing something new that I’ve never heard. Fall Out Boy did it, folks, and if you’re a fan of their classic material, you should listen to this. I will say, though, that if you’re one of those cornballs that only listens to their first two albums, and nothing else (imagine thinking Take This To Your Grave is their best album, yikes), you won’t like this. This is more of the pop-rock sound that they went with on Infinity On High and Folie, but that’s my favorite of Fall Out Boy. I love the first two albums, too, but like with their post-hiatus material, they haven’t aged well in certain ways. In other ways, they have, but I don’t listen to those albums as much. I can imagine So Much (For) Stardust being in top three Fall Out Boy albums, because it sounds like the era that I love so much, but it also does something new and exciting. This is such an exciting album, and I can’t get enough of it. I’ve been looking forward to this album for months, and it was worth it. They delivered one of the best albums of their career, but without sacrificing anything that they made them great to begin with. They just added onto their classic sound. That doesn’t erase the last few albums, but I wouldn’t even say their first couple of post-hiatus albums are bad. They’re not. They’re catchy, fun, and they’ve got a few solid lyrical nuggets here and there, but they’re not as great as Infinity On High and Folie A Deux. This album doesn’t necessarily erase those albums, but it builds on what originally made Fall Out Boy great. I feel as though I’ve been listening to this album for years, but I’ve also never heard it, and those are the best types of albums to listen to, because they immediately feel familiar and welcoming, like you just listen to it as though you’ve already been listening to it for years. It’ll be hard to top this record, but Fall Out Boy came back with something I truly did not expect, and I mean that in the best way.

Soap MacTavish has a sweet tooth.
He once mistakenly ate an entire plate of freshly made brownies in one sitting while you were out purchasing a quick grocery list, thinking it was your usual recipe.
As you entered your home, your eyes immediately went to the empty metal tray that sat on your counter as you took in the sight of the crested Scotsman splayed out over your couch.
Quietly, with only the slightest aggravated smirk, you stepped towards him as his glazed eyes mindlessly followed the images of SpongeBob flashing on the expansive TV screen.
"John," you said with a hushed tone. Patrick's voice echoing behind your shoulder as Soap's eyes lazily moved to meet your questioning stare.
"How ya feelin', babe?"
He answered simply with a smile. Unable to speak as the effects of copious amounts of THC coursed through his veins and clouded his mind as you gazed upon him, lovingly rolling your eyes at his mind-numbing state.
"Yeah. That ain't nothing yet."
You sat by his side for the next 10 hours as he rode out the high he had so inadvertently thrown upon himself. Only moving when he muttered 'got'a pee, lass', which was a feat upon itself as you shouldered the inebriated Scotsman ever so carefully down the hall to the bathroom (yes, you helped him because you love him and he's too embarrassed and high to ask)
You vowed never to leave a tray of special brownies unattended if you knew he were to be home alone. The man could not be trusted, especially since he had no discipline around your expert baking.
And you'd hide the newly made gummy bears in an inconspicuous container. Margarine, perhaps. Anything to keep his greedy hands from embarking on yet another cannabis fueled adventure.
Although you'd be lying if you didn't love the dopey smile he gave you as you rode him on the couch. Limp body with a throbbing dick. Accompanied by a dilated stare that melted your heart as you pulled the most delicious moan of your name from between his permanently kissable lips.

Hi so I was having some brainrot regarding your small-town-neglected-meta reader and I wanted to share them with you!
One thing I've been thinking about alot is the way readers powers work and what kinds of weather they're likely to create, etc. One thing I specifically thought about is that readers powers definitely have to come from her mom's side. Bruce and no else in Bruce's biological line have powers so readers mom has to have the meta gene. I was thinking that maybe readers mom also controlled the weather a bit, maybe not as strong as reader can but still had some powers.
Like creating little drizzles, maybe some dustdevils, and little snow storms. Because her powers were so weak she never really used them for much, maybe to help out her own parents on the farm but that's about it(using her rain powers to easily water the crops)
In that same line of thinking I also wondered if readers little brother also has superpowers. Maybe the way his powers work or appear are bit different than readers because of they have different dads(I imagine Bruce has really strong genetics. If Damian is any proof of that lol)
One little crank in this little headcanon though is that Nana and Gramps would also have to have superpowers. But then I reread the first chapter and thought about One of the phrases you used to describe how reader got in Bruce's hands.
"but blood is thicker than water in the eyes of the court."
That specifically makes me think that Nana and Gramps are actually readers little brother biological grandparents and not theirs.(what happened to their bio grandparents 🤔)
But anyway, one last thing I wanted mention is how badly I want to see reader using their powers more freely when they're back in small town. Like they aren't afraid to use their powers to make it super windy and have fun with their little brother up on the sky. Or causing a blizzard just so they can have a snowball fight and make snow-men with their little brother. Or even accidently cause a power outage because someone pissed them off! No more suppressed emotions just freedom. (Also reader crying in the middle of the rain they made in front of their parents graves(they wanted to be buried in their hometown) would be so tragically fantasic.)
Anyway I know this is a lot to read and I'm sorry if I seem a bit scrambled but I wanted to send this to you just cause I had so many ideas floating up in my brain I couldn't stop thinking about it all. Thank you for listening to me ramble, I hope your doing amazing🩷
Your call this bain-rot, Imma call it fertilizer. This is long as mess, but I think I addressed everything. Lots of Smalltown!Reader lore and I made a Family Tree to help explain if needed.
☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️
Smalltown!Reader's Family Tree:
Complicated little bugger, ain't it? I didn't add Stephanie or Barbara because Bruce technically never adopted them or fostered them. This isn't an official thing, I made this and it was composed of little bits of information I found online. So some of this stuff might not be lore accurate.
Also, while I was researching I found out that Bruce's middle name was apparently Patrick, after his grandfather at one point.
Now, time for the pseudo science.
I consider the meta gene to be a genetic trait carried down by a parent. That would be Momma/Adeline, in this case. She carries the gene. Now, the meta gene does not always activate even if one has it. So, no, Momma was not making mini storms for us. She was, however, very encouraging of Reader using their abilities. It takes an event, usually a traumatic one, to activate the gene. (Little Brother could be getting power's in the next chapter, though.)
As for Nana and Grand Daddy we have this:
They don't have the gene, so they don't have abilities. (Which doesn't me their harmless.) They are Reader's Step-Grandparents, but they've grown to love them all the same. Now, in court, it is preferred for a child to go to the nearest blood relative after their parents die. Or, at least, that's what I roughly know from what the court in my state is like. I'm not from Louisiana or New Jersey, where Gotham's located, so maybe it's different. But, this is fiction. This is why Nana and Grand Daddy didn't get custody of Reader, though. Plus Bruce is rich with a bunch of adopted kids, on paper he looks like the best option.
☁︎☁︎☁︎☁︎☁︎☁︎☁︎☁︎☁︎☁︎☁︎
I really love the thought of Reader using their abilities for silly little things while back in Smalltown, at least before things absolutely go to hell in a hand basket. So I'll probably include a bit. (They used to do things like that before moving to Gotham, definitely.) Something I want to mention is that Reader likes to make it rain when their happy. It's their favorite weather, they love it. So a grave scene might be a bit different. (I have to include that now. Thank you for that idea! Frick, Part Eight about to be long af.)
☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️☁️
If your curious about Reader's other grandparents, they just died from old age and health problems. I like to think that Reader had a close relationship with them. Calling them MawMaw and Gab for their nicknames and having spent a lot of time with Reader and their Little Brother before they died. (I'm sorely tempted to just commit to rewriting this with the OC I based Reader off of so I can include all this backstory to highlight how different their life in Gotham is compared to what it used to be, but I best finish what I started first.)
(Side Note: It's very common in the American south for people to give their grandparents nicknames. I have some for my southern grandparents, while I call my northern grandparents just plain Grandma and Grandpa. The nickname can vary and is usually what ever the first grandchild comes up with.)
Thank you for sending me this ask! Stuff like this actually inspires me so this was wonderful. Hopefully this helps. (Now to get back to work on my writing, I've been draggin' my feet again.)

mei you straight up rekindled my love for the outsiders with a single fic (the power u hold is immense girlie). domesticity for my poor greaser boys?! ahhh my brain was so fuzzy by the end of the fic. magnificent as always <3
so if you'd like requests i'm more than happy to oblige. darry was my first dilf crush (i mean he has several children in his care and i'd like to duck him. counted as a dilf in my 13 year old brain and counts as a dilf in my brain still lmao) so how about darry n reader mom and dadding all over the place; maybe they all go to the drive thru together, reader n darry are emergency contacts at the hospital and mischief is afoot, they get some time away from their several greaser children... or whatever scenario your beautiful brain cooks up. i hope this is a little inspiring and i send you tons of good vibes (and a big phat kiss. MWAH!!).
send me requests for the outsiders!
i'm so flattered <33 darry's been my fave for a loooong time i love that big beefy man omg <3
--
You'd think that six years old is the last age you'd ever have to worry about restaurant etiquette with, but apparently 18-year-olds can't handle themselves either.
"Two-Bit, you keep your feet to yourself under the table and stop kicking Ponyboy." You hiss, keeping your voice low so that none of the other patrons can hear you. There's not many times you'd ever try traipsing through a fancy restaurant with the entire gang, but Darry's managed to get himself promoted to worksite supervisor, which means less back-breaking labor and more cushy pay. It's a special occasion, and everyone's greased their hair as neatly as possible.
"He stole the piece of bread I wanted." Two-Bit insists, "He grabbed the biggest piece with the softest insides and he left me the heel!"
"We have two baskets," Darry passes the secondary bread basket over to Two, eyes glinting warningly, "Now listen to Y/N and quit kickin' my brother."
Ponyboy shares a grateful glance at Darry, but nothing more so as not to hurt his teenage ego. You're sure his shins are smarting, but he'd never admit it.
"That's the good stuff." Steve dips his hand into the basket as well, and together both boys clear it out, save for the heels. You watch Soda realize that he's been cheated, and before he can wrap his hand around the heel of the bread and chuck it across the table at Steve you catch his arm, staring dead into his eyes.
"Sodapop Patrick Curtis, if you throw food at this table, I'll give you a buzzcut."
His eyes widen, your threat proving effective. He runs a cautious hand over his styled hair as he sinks back into his seat, staring at his empty bread plate.
You sigh as you scoop your bread onto his plate, taking the heel for yourself and lamenting the loss of the soft innards.
"Y'all are too old for this shit." Dallas remarks, a look of distaste on his face, but no one points out that he's having a cigarette for an appetized instead of bread and butter.
"Pass me the menu, Steve?" Johnny asks, eyeing the large folded plastic tucked beneath Steve's plate. You see the moment he gets the idea, his eyes glinting mischievously as he goes to whip the menu out from beneath the plate without moving it.
"Don't- do not do that!" You break your own rules, landing a sharp kick against Steve's calf so that he stops in his tracks, "I swear you boys act like toddlers. Steve, pick up the plate and then hand Johnny the menu."
"Couldn't've made it anyways," Ponyboy mumbles, and any sympathy you'd had for the youngest teen vanishes when he challenges Steve.
"Oh yes I could'a," Steve argues, obeying your directions only to avoid another kick to the shin, "You don't know what you're talkin' about, kid, I could whip a tablecloth off a table without a fork movin' outta place."
"I've seen him do it," Soda nods, ever-loyal to his best friend, "Well- one glass broke, but it wasn't that bad."
"Wasn't my fault," Steve agrees, "It was the wind."
"Your table's in your basement, stupid," Dallas scoffs, "There ain't no wind in there."
"There's a window," Steve remarks hotly, perhaps pushing boundaries too much considering it's Dallas he's smarting off to, but Darry cuts in and effectively silences everyone.
"I'm gonna make every single one'uh you hoodlums walk home if you don't start behaving." Darry's tone keeps everyone silent, even Dally who watches Darry with a mixture of interest and amusement.
"Feet off your chairs," There's a rustle of movement as most boys adjust, "Elbows off the table," Another commotion, "And voices low. There's other people here, and if one of y'all launches a piece of bread across the room we're gonna get kicked out. Sit down, shut up, and figure out what you're eating."
Six heads duck shamefully towards their menus, and a blissful silence reigns over the table for the first time all night. You turn towards Darry with a shit-eating grin etched into your features, one that makes his cheeks warm as he tries occupying himself with his own menu.
You prop the plastic sheet up on the table between you, and it's large enough to cover your faces. You duck towards Darry and press a sweet kiss to his rosy cheek, "That was pretty intense, Superman. I liked it. Whipped 'em right into shape."
"Damn hooligans." Darry grumbles, letting his nose brush against yours.
"Scoundrels," You snicker, leaning in to press another kiss to his face, this time catching his lips.
"Whippersnappers." He murmurs against your mouth, the two of you shaking with laughter behind your menus.
"Unwilling audience members." Two-Bit snags the edge of your menu, tearing it away from you to reveal you and Darry with your noses pressed together, "Talk about poor table manners- I'm pretty sure you're supposed to save the boning for dessert."
"Y'all are gross," Soda's nose scrunches in faux-distaste, but you know he's thrilled that his brother has found you.
"You'd better hurry up and figure out what you want, then." You smirk teasingly at the group, "The sooner we order the sooner we eat, and the sooner we eat the sooner we can get out of here and get a room."
"Hurry up, Johnny," Dallas elbows the boy theatrically in the side, a sharp laugh coming from Johnny as Dallas smirks at the two of you, "If we wait any longer they might start making out behind the bread basket."

"NEVER FUCKING TOUCH HIM."
—{★}—
PATRICK HOCKSETTER X FEM!LATNIA READER X HENRY BOWERS
WARNINGS: kinda yandere?, I'm not Latina or anything so I will be using Google translate for some stuff!, angry scared reader, swearing, Patrick being patrick, mention of murder?,
Summary: Y/N found a haunted house that she thought would be fun with her two lovers but only to be even more scared then ever
—{}—
You were the complete opposite of the two boys you so very loved for. You, a sweet, caring, loving, beautiful, angelic, person. Was with Henry Bowers and Patrick Hocksetter? It was a weird mix that's for sure, maybe Patrick and Henry weren't, but you + them? Shook the whole school
You are the popular girl, the one who is on the cheer team and everyone is probably jealous of. Your little brother Richie Tozier? He never told you about the bullying he got from Bowers gang, mostly from Henry and Patrick, they practically threatened him and the losers club to shut their mouths and not tell you
Richie, is and still is protective. No kiddin' though, he's been through alot still being a 13 year old? This kid is tough. You looked up to him even though he was younger, he was your little brother and still very much you loved him. If you found out what's been happening to him and his little club? You would kill the bullies yourself!
—{★}—
You were looking at your mirror in your locker fixing every detail possible, the boys who stood behind you leaning on the other lockers were confused, you were perfect! How could you possibly need to fix anything? Any detail they thought it was beautiful. It never made sense to them.
You smiled looking at yourself happily as you turned around closing your locker and locking it before looking up at the two boys with a smile. "Okay, so I was thinking-" you said before getting cut off immediately "No." Henry said as you frowned as you three walked "I didn't even finsh the damn sentence!" You said with a slight pout as he smiled a bit "anyway! I was thinking of going to a haunted house this week! You know? It'll be fun" you said shrugging with a now smile bright as ever, not noticing the grin that perked on Patrick's face as he looked at Henry with a 'Please' type of look.
Henry could easily say 'No, that's to childish' but, both if them could see the way you would look scared. It would practically send them off a rampage of.. well, you know. So they both agreed in their own way "Sure, but you owe us, dollface" patrick said as he put his arm around your shoulder you made a confused face but shook that off.
—{★}—
To say this was what they expected was completely right. They saw the way your eyes flashed in anger and sacredness as a clown jump scare popped up normally screaming; Santo hijo de puta. They both saw it and it to say the least turned them on in a way,
Seeing you scared and clinging on Patrick's arm? Fucking hell he would go crazy, definitely grinning from ear to ear. Not in a sweat way btw. Hug Henry on accident? He will absolutely smirk a little as he would mock you a bit
Your fear of (__) would fucking go crazy if it was in there, your scared of clowns? Watch your back bb, there's gonna scare the living shit outta you
—{★}—
"Santo hijo de puta!" You yelled in fear as you jumped a bit from the jumpscare infront of you as you turned a corner them following you "What? You scared" patrick asked as I frowned "Take a guess" you said as patrick put his arms around your waist "It ain't that scary just a little jumpscare!" He said as you sighed
—{★}—

LOOK AWAY IF YOU DON'T WANT SO MUCH FOR (TOUR) DUST SPOILERS, OKAY?
~~~
~~~
~~~
Set list:
(1) That Pink Seashell spoken word thing actually opens the show
(2) Love from the Other Side: I assumed they'd play this first, and they did, and they looked very happy with the reception that it got
(3) The Phoenix
(4) Sugar, We're Goin Down: I overheard two guys when I was leaving saying, "I only came to this show for that Sugar song, and it was the third song they played," whatever to those two guys lol
(5) Uma Thurman
(6) A Litttle Less Sixteen Candles, A Little More Touch Me
(7) Chicago Is So Two Years Ago: I know they always play this song when they play Chicago but the way the show is set up, there's this spoken intro that references a light being left on in Chicago, and then they launch into this song, and so I feel like maybe it's permanently in the set list for this tour, we'll see.
(8) Grand Theft Autumn: Patrick told the story again of how he wrote the lyrics while jogging with Pete. Here is exactly what he said, because I recorded it, hahaha: "I wrote this song out here, jogging, trying to figure out the words. This was back when I wrote a lot of the words. And Pete was jogging with me and he was like, 'Eh, maybe change this, maybe change this.' Before we knew it he was writing all the lyrics." And then Pete said, "Imagine us jogging" lolololol
(9) Calm Before the Storm
(10) This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race: They added a little Peterick-y moment in here? I don't remember them playing at each other during this song in previous performances? It was cute, it was during the instrumental part before Patrick leads the singalong, maybe I've just always missed it? They played it each other and kind of did some kind of kick thing with their legs??
(11) Disloyal Order of Water Buffaloes: Honestly, always a delight to hear this song, this is one of my favorites <3
(12) Heaven, Iowa: THIS SONG LIVE, I SWEAR
(13) "The Take Over, the Breaks Over": OH MY GOD I LOVE THIS SONG AND I TOTALLY DIDN'T EXPECT THEM TO PLAY IT, I WAS SO HAPPY
(14) Headfirst Slide into Cooperstown on a Bad Bet: <3 Guess they got over being scared of playing this one lol
(15) Fake Out: I CANNOT TELL YOU HOW EXCITED I WAS THAT THEY PLAYED THIS ONE OMGGGGGGG. Also, there was some plan I wasn't aware of to, like, hold up cell phones with pink paper over the lights so the crowd lit up pink???? I have no idea who engineered that but it was CHARMING and at the end of the song Pete said, "Thanks for that, guys, that was beautiful," and the stage was on darkness so it seemed absolutely spontaneous on his part and I think they really did like the effect, so, Idk, future shows, keep doing it????
(16) Patrick did some kind of piano interlude where he played "Don't Stop Believin'"????? It was random but he was super charming, I think the rest of the band used it as a break, it was just SO GREAT. Part of his intro was: "Pete was putting together this show and he said to me, 'Hey, you should play piano.' And I was like, 'I kinda only play songs I wrote. I don't really play piano. I don't know how to play piano.' And he's like, 'Eh, you'll figure it out.'" And then Patrick sat down and played gorgeous piano ugh THANKS, PETE.
(17) Last of the Real Ones: I am glad Mania got some love.
(18) Save Rock and Roll
(19) PETE RECITED BABY ANNIHILATION WHAT. I SWEAR TO GOD. I SO DID NOT EXPECT THIS AND I STILL CAN'T BELIEVE THAT IT HAPPENED. If you're going to the show, pay attention, because I looked away and apparently there's, like, a magic trick at the end of the monologue where he disappears behind a piece of black silk?????
(20) Crazy Train cover: I...don't know what to say about this randomness hahaha but it happened??
(21) Dance Dance
(22) Hold Me Like a Grudge: I think Patrick adores singing this song, I really do.
(23) G.I.N.A.S.F.S.: I KNOW. I CAN'T BELIEVE IT, EITHER.
(24) My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light Em Up)
(25) Thnks fr th Mmrs
(26) Centuries
(27) Saturday <3
The show ends with a little piano version of So Much (for) Stardust played over the sound system, so pay attention for that.
The set is super Alice in Wonderland-y and I adored it, it's playful and fantastical and has all these whimsical touches and interludes and I just thought it was delightful and at one point there were bubbles, and I heard some people complaining after the concert that the fantasy thing didn't suit their style of music and really, I was surrounded by downers after the concert, I thought they were perfect hahaha. Like, ABSOLUTELY PERFECT. They looked so, so, so tangibly happy, all of them. Patrick sounded fantastic and he looked like he was having a blast, he smiled the whole time.
I have a lot of videos but they seem like they're all pretty terrible, but I'll see how I feel in the morning lol
i've been thinking about the whole "friction in his jeans" thing a lot lately, and while it is certainly one of the more iconic instances of the lyric in the CD booklet being different from the actual song, it is far from the only one. on top of that, there are quite a few lyrics that play with double meanings that only become clear when they're written out.
so, i present a collection of every lyric in the fob CD booklets that differ from the final version, punctuation and double meanings that aren't noticeable unless the song is written out, and any other interesting details i find in the process, or a really long post of me cornplating about fob:
disclaimer that if the difference is small enough/doesn't change the meaning of the line i won't include it because that would take me years (for example, the book says "light that smoke for giving up on me" and patrick says "yeah, one for giving up on me" but literally who cares that changes nothing. everything i include here is relevant, i think)
follow-up disclaimer that there are a bunch of fucking typos in every single one of these books because these boys never proofread anything but unless i think it's significant in some way i probably will skip it
TAKE THIS TO YOUR GRAVE:
tell that mick:
"I hope you choke on those words, that kiss, that bottle - I confess / now ash yourself out on the insides, when I said I loved you I swear I lied"
grand theft autumn:
"someday i'll appreciate in value, get off my ass and call you... but for the meantime i'll sport my brand new fashion of waking up with my clothes on at 4:00 in the afternoon"
saturday:
"pete and i said goodbye to astoria with promise and precision and mess of youthful innocence"
(most of these are just silly but this one fucking hurts)
sending postcards:
"fake it like you matter - cause that's the biggest secret you have to keep"
chicago is so two years ago:
"that means that I believed every single lie you said (and learned from the best)"
"cause every pain of glass that your pebbles tap negates the pains i went through to avoid you / and every little pat on the shoulder for attention fails to mention i still hate you" (pain of glass instead of pane of glass - i think this is supposed to be a parallel. that or pete just misspelled pane)
patron saint:
"I'm holding out and I'm holding on to every letter and every grudge"
*flashes forward 20 years to hmlag*
anyway
FROM UNDER THE CORK TREE:
our lawyer made us change the name of this song so we wouldn't get sued:
"we're good friends only when you're on your knees"
sugar:
the icon, the legend
"don't mind me, i'm watching you two from the closet wishing to be the friction in his jeans" 🎉🏳️🌈
dark alley:
"joke me something awful just like kisses on the necks of 'just friends'"
"I'm hopelessly hopeful that you're just hopeless enough"
champagne for my real friends, real pain for my shrimp friends:
"you steer away in a rearview mirror, make my head swim"
i slept with someone in fob:
"someone old, no one new / always borrowed, always you"
THIS ONE!! THIS FUCKING ONE [CAR CRASH] [SIRENS]
ahem. anyway
sixteen candles:
"i confess, i'm just messed up / dropping 'i'm sorrys' like you're still around"
XO:
"to hands"
(that's it. no "between legs, and whatever it takes" just hands. just fuckin. to hands)
"to hotel stares/stairs" (wordplay!! to clarify it literally says "stares/stairs" in the book)
"choose awe or sympathy"
also in the last verse it says 'to the "love"' with the quotes which is just kinda funny
INFINITY ON HIGH:
this ain't a scene:
"crashing not like hips or hearts"
i'm like a lawyer:
"i only keep myself this sick in the head cause i know how the words get you (off)"
"collect the bad habits that you couldn't bare to keep" (idk this one might just be a typo)
hum hallelujah:
similarly, this might also be a typo, but "versus" is spelled "verses"
(after) life:
ok. ok. hear me out. this is the cornplatiest i have ever been. but on genius it says "death's in a double bed"
and on the lyric book it says "deaths in a double bed"
that changes everything!!! (not really, i know) it's not death as a concept or figure or whatever it's deaths. as in multiple people dying. aaaaaaaaaaaaaauuuuuuuuuuaaaaaaaughhhhhhhhhhh
moving on
carpal tunnel:
"we take the sip from life's lush lips"
the line "we might've started singing just a little soon" isn't listed, it's just the goodbye line twice
"but i'm just tired yawns for fawns"
you're crashing:
"the cause, the kid, the charm, and the curse"
ginasfs:
"lips pressed this close to mine"
"but the prince of this failing empire knows" (hhhnnnggggggghhh)
"i've already given up on myself once but the third time is the charm" that's not how numbers work pete <3
"just kind of figured on not figuring myself out"
FOLIE A DEUX:
folie a deux doesn't have a lyric book. just portraits of the boys with empty white pages that have their names written on them. my poor beautiful masterpiece
BELIEVERS NEVER DIE VOL. 1:
fnowae:
not a lyric but for some reason the whole fuckin song is in quotes
SAVE ROCK AND ROLL:
the phoenix:
another punctuation thing but instead of "hope to die" it's "hope-to-dies"
"you're wearing our vintage misery"
alone together:
"my heart is like a stallion, they love it more when it's broke in" instead of "broken" (i love double meanings!! i love wordplay!! i love pete wentz!!)
where did the party go:
"i will appear to you if you make yourself shake fast enough"
the mighty fall:
the lyric book straight up doesn't have big sean's part 💔
rat a tat:
at the end there's this "talk less / mean more / let's be electric / like we were before" that i have literally never heard so i'm assuming it's a neat little cut lyric
save rock and roll:
"i will save the songs / the songs we're singing"
AMERICAN BEAUTY / AMERICAN PSYCHO:
irresistible:
"coming in announced" this one. this one's just a typo. come on boys it's been 12 years at this point read the books more than once
"i just dragged my nails on the tile / i just follow your scent" ?? idk
"this will not be a battle"
ab/ap:
for some fucking reason it just says "she's an american beauty" three times at the start of the song 😭
"and as we're drifting off to sleep" isn't in there, it just says "and all those dirty thoughts of me, they were never yours to keep"
the kids aren't alright:
indulge me once more, reader. i am cornplating again
instead of "former heroes who quit too late and just wanna fill up their trophy case again" it's "wanted to" do you understand why that makes me insane
also they have it as "will put your curse in reverse" instead of "we" which could be a typo but could also be a neat little change
uma thurman:
"you cut me deep like uma thurman"
jet pack blues:
"i'm the kind that can turn june to september / the last one that you'll ever remember"
"between these two white highway signs"
immortals:
"i try to picture you without me but i can't"
M A N I A:
hold me tight or don't:
the line "i'm pretty sure that this isn't how our story ends" isn't included
wilson:
"i know it's just a number but to me you're the 8th wonder"
sunshine riptide:
they didn't include any of burna boy's lines 😒
SO MUCH (FOR) STARDUST:
smfs doesn't have any lyric changes that i noticed, just the usual typos.
update: future emma here, upon further contemplation I have decided to add the line "I'd never go, I just want to be invited" since the first verse definitely says "I'll" (thank you sugarweregoinin and foliejpg for inspiring this revelation)
and there we have it! if you're insane patient enough to have made it until the end, thank you for reading and i hope you enjoyed! if there are any i missed/any in CDs that i don't have please let me know i find these so fascinating (if you couldn't tell). i just love getting glimpses into their writing process and seeing how the songs we know and love evolve before they get to us. i might also do a post about how spotify/genius gets a bunch of their lyrics wrong because it pisses me off but this is all for now, good day/night!
#fall out boy#fob#i can't believe i spent four hours on this#take this to your grave#from under the cork tree#infinity on high#folie a deux#save rock and roll#american beauty/american psycho#mania#so much (for) stardust#patrick stump#pete wentz#joe trohman#andy hurley
When Love and Hate Collide
Eddie Munson song-fic.
Song lyrics belong to the band Def Leppard!
warnings: female reader, cruel Eddie, angst!
Eddie walked out of his trailer, seeing you sitting on your own porch in the opposite lot with your boombox beside you, listening to your music. Usually your music taste was similar to his, but when you were in a low mood you always went for power ballads. He used to teased you about that but right now he felt like someone had punched him when he saw you refusing to look in his direction, writing in your notebook, silently lip-syncing to the song.
You could have a change of heart If you would only change your mind Instead of slamming down the phone, girl For the hundredth time
He had tried calling you, reasoning with you, begging your forgiveness but it was plain to see that this time you've had enough.
I got your number on my wall But I ain't gonna make that call When divided we stand, baby United we fall
You two had been best friends forever. Your parents had rented the trailer in the lot opposite his and Wayne's when you were barely four years old and you had hit it off immediately.
He couldn't say when those feelings had developed into love. Maybe when your parents had sent you to camp the whole summer and you hadn't seen each other for two months? Maybe it was when Gareth Heath had commented on how you had come back from summer camp with a 'rack of lamb'? Maybe it was when you said that you had a small crush on Patrick Swayze and he got furious because Swayze was a pretty boy, nothing like him and he wanted you to think of only him.
Yet, he never acted on those feelings, despite the hints you dropped. He was scared that if it didn't work out he would lose you forever. That was his worst nightmare. He'd rather stay just friends then.
Got the time, got a chance, gonna make it Got my hands on your heart, gonna take it All I know I can't fight this flame
It was plain to see that it hurt you. Especially when he got drunk and flirted with other girls - maybe just to see how jealous you got, to ensure him you still loved him and only him - or when he sold weed to cheerleaders and they flirted with him, wearing their short skirts and scratching his arm with their painted nails to get a reduced price.
You never did anything of the sort. You were in love with Eddie and wanted no one else. Good thing you didn't because he might have punched the guy you showed the slighest bit of interest in.
It was only because Patrick Swayze was a hundred miles away in Hollywood - and too old for you - that Eddie hadn't killed him.
Not really, but still.
You could have a change of heart If you would only change your mind 'Cause I'm crazy 'bout you, baby Time after time
But last night at the Hideout when some skank (your words, not his) had all but draped herself over him and he had done nothing to prevent it, despite talking to you merely seconds before, you had slammed down your glass on the bar counter top and walked out.
He had pushed the girl off of him and raced after you wondering what was wrong and you had turned around, looking at him with such hatred in your eyes that he had to take a step back. Your voice was colder than ice when you said: "I'm done. Done, Munson (not Eddie. Munson.). You've been hurting me for years. Friends don't do that. And since you claim that's the only thing we are, then I say it's a shitty friendship and I'm better off without it. We're done. Don't call me. Don't visit. Don't talk to me. Never again."
Without you, one night alone Is like a year without you baby Do you have a heart of stone? Without you Can't stop the hurt inside When love and hate collide
He had been struck by surprise, then paralyzing fear before he shook himself out of it. You couldn't mean it... right? No, you were just angry. You would get over it and understand he didn't mean anything by it. You always did.
He had cursed himself a million times over for not going after you when you walked off. He had gone back inside, thinking a little distance would make you cool down.
It was merely hours later that he realized what a mistake he had made.
When he got home he had tried calling you, but you didn't answer. When your parents answered the phone they didn't even bother lying to him - they said you didn't want to talk to him and that was that.
He went over to your place the next day but you didn't come to the door. He knew you were home because once again your mom refused to lie to him, she simply said that you didn't want to see him and that he had to respect your choice.
When Monday rolled around you took the bus to school from the trailer park. You hadn't done that in years, always riding with him in his van. In school you avoided him like the plague, sitting with Robin instead of the Hellfire table. When the guys heard what had happened they all looked at him as if he had killed someone. Or rather, killed you.
I don't wanna fight no more I don't know what we're fighting for When we treat each other, baby Like an act of war
Now he didn't know what to do. It was like someone had reached into his chest and cut his heart out. He had tried saying sorry, even put letters underneath your door, saying he would do better. You still didn't talk to him.
Deep inside he hoped you would again, that you would realize that you missed him, just like he missed you. But for every day that passed he slowly realized that whatever feelings you had for him, he had fucked up one time too many and the pan of the scale had tipped over.
I could tell a million lies And it would come as no surprise When the truth is like a stranger Hits you right between the eyes
"You got to make this right," Wayne said when Eddie all but cried for help. "You obviously don't see her as a friend. Not to mention you hurt her so many times - trying to have your cake and eat it too! That's such a cruel thing to do, Eddie! I've not raised you to act like that! So tell her how you feel. For real. And you better spend the rest of your time making it up to her!"
There's a time and a place and a reason And I know I got a love to believe in All I know Got to win this time
So that same night he showed up on your porch with his acoustic guitar, strumming out the tones to the song you had played just the other day. Not caring whether your parents heard him or even called the cops on him.
Without you, one night alone Is like a year without you, baby Do you have a heart of stone? Without you Can't stop the hurt inside When love and hate collide
You could have a change of heart If you would only change your mind 'Cause I'm crazy 'bout you, baby Crazy, crazy
You opened the door, meeting his gaze for the first time in days.
"I... I love you, sweetheart," Eddie whispered. "I'm so sorry. So sorry for how I behaved. Please... please give me a chance to make this right. I can't live without you."
You shook your head. "I'm so goddamn angry at you, Eddie Munson. But... I love you too I thought it would be easier, living without you. It's not! I miss you so much!"
Eddie smiled and ran up to her, wrapping his arms around her tightly, both of them crying.
"But I'm telling you now - I'll castrate you if you ever hurt me again!" Y/N whispered and Eddie chuckled.
"I'll hand you the knife, baby."
"Don't bother - I'll use a spoon."
Without you, one night alone Is like a year without you, baby Do you have a heart of stone? Without you, one night alone Is like a year without you, baby If you have a heart at all Without you I can't stop the hurt inside When love and hate collide
