What if you sought the slashers for help when another person tried to kill you ?

Synopsis : You had been taking care of the infamous slashers, but were surprised when you received a new resident. Even more when you realized it was none other than Ghostface. But another Ghostface than the one you knew. And when the other slasher decided to go after you...Let's say you preferred the evil you knew.

J :

J had been stalking you for a while now, and when he saw this Ghostface wannabe go after you ? He knew he couldn't stand it and came in with his knife at the ready. However, he didn't think you would be so relieved to see him.

You instinctively hid behind him and even though you had a knife in your hand, you decided to wait. He tilted his head curiously at you, but didn't have the time to ponder more in the weird phenomenon when the other copycat decided to attack him.

Him.

The clown prince of crime.

It made his blood boil and want to kill him even more.

J : "Come on...Let's play."

Pennywise :

Ghostface had been following you around for a while and you thought at first strange that this man seemed to appear at the most random of places.

He was another slasher. But, something was weird about him...

When you were cornered by the new stalker, you found yourself alone and feared he would kill you or worse...But then, a hand went through your attacker's chest and reaped his heart from his chest.

"...Wrong target, pal'."

Ghostface fell to the floor and you slowly looked up to see the clown gulp down the still-beating heart of your attacker. You stared at him and somehow, you didn't feel fear. Even when Pennywise's glowing yellow eyes met yours, you didn't shiver.

He smirked knowingly.

"Run along, nursy. That one won't be bothering you anymore..."

Penny :

Penny had tried to stay away. You weren't like his other victims. You knew that he was watching you, but seemed fine with it as long as he didn't approach. And he had no intention to show himself...But then, this weird masked guy had appeared and he had had had no choice but to interfere.

He had reaped the man to shreds, ignoring the way you were staring at him or the fact that you hadn't ran away at the first sight of blood.

However, when he looked up at you and your (E/C) eyes met his bright orange ones, he offered you a bloody smile.

"...You're still here ? Interesting. I knew you looked like fun, pet."

He crouched in front of you and smiled before wiping the tears off your face, smearing blood all over your cheeks instead.

Freddy Krueger :

"Don't. Move."

Freddy instructed you and you had no choice but to obey. He smirked as he looked down at you and lifted his finger to your mouth. He wanted you to remain silent and even though you were scared, you decided that he had a good reason to ask you this. So, you stayed silent and then...You heard it. The door opened and here came in a man with a piece of cloth in his hand.

You recognized him as Ghostface and closed your eyes tightly. You had felt his eyes on you for weeks. You were scared he might kill you if you were to let out a pip. But then, the patient screamed.

You opened your eyes found the bloody claws of Freddy Krueger a few inches from your face as he started cackling. Blood splattered all over him as the man was drained from his blood and you shivered when Freddy turned back towards you and smirked.

"...Ain't no one taking your life before I say so, got it sweetheart ?"

Michael Myers :

Michael was surprised when he heard you running in the hallway. He then heard a different pair of footsteps and immediately knew that someone else had decided to play with his next victim. His jaw clenched as he put on the mask and marched out.

Just at that moment, you ran past him and he grabbed you by the hair to yank you back.

Who were you running away from if not him ? Who did you think you are ? You were his victim.

He looked up and found Ghostface up the stairs. He frowned. What was he doing so far from Silent Hill ?

But, he didn't have the time to ponder more on that question that the actual Ghostface lunched forward with a knife in hand and their weapons clashed.

Michael frowned, but Myers smiled. Finally.

He was getting bored.

Jason Voorhees :

Jason never let anyone enter his forest and leave without his permission. But, when he first saw you...He decided a few days wouldn't hurt, especially after so many years alone. So, he let you live.

He observed you from afar and didn't attempt to make contact...until you drew another creature inside his forest.

You were covered in bruises and ran head first into him. He could feel your heart beat fast and a sudden surge to protect you overtook him.

When he raised his eyes and they fell on the stranger before him, his clenched his teeth and drew out his machete.

He hated strangers.

Brahms Heelshire :

Brahms saw you running away and decided to intervene. He jumped out of the walls and put himself between you and Ghostface. He thought the man would start blabbering, as he had the first time they ha met each other.

But, he was surprised when the man didn't hesitate before lunching forward, swinging his knife with expertise. Brahms dodged the best he could before finally grabbing Ghostface's arm—almost breaking it.

"ENOUGH."

He raised his voice, but Ghostface didn't obey and once freed, ran away. Brahms looked at him go with a small frown of incomprehension before feeling two arms wrap around him from behind.

"Thank you..."

Brahms looked back at you and smiled.

Norman Bates :

Norman was taking care of the hotel when he sensed the presence of another slasher nearby. He didn't think much at first, but when he realized who the other killer was after ? He decided to make it his problem.

He stayed a bit more with you and gave furtive glances around everytime you were together—making sure no one was around to kill you.

And when Ghostface finally showed his face ?

Norman was ready...

He took his wrist and pulled him back just as he was about to attack him and hissed in his ear.

"Mine."

Ghostface looked up at him and Norman glared down at him with a certain animosity in his gaze.

"...Mine."

There was a silent warning behind that word and Ghostface knew better than to protest.

Bonus : 'The Attacker'

Eddie never thought he would be the one following the Ghostface legacy. But, he had found the mask in the trailer and knew that he ought to become one to find his father. No matter what. He had become the embodiment of all the past Ghostfaces. He was their descendant. Him. NO ONE ELSE WOULD TAKE THAT AWAY FROM HIM ! It was his destiny. And you would be his victim.

He had decided to take you as his first victim, but had been stopped by the slashers.

He looked down at the mask in his hands and his jaw twitched. His uncle used to be a slasher and had past it down to him. But, he had revealed that his father was as well, it was the only reason he had survived the attack of the bats.

And now, he only had one objective in mind.

"I'll find you. I'll find you and I'll kill you for leaving me."

Resurrecting Fear: Alone in the Dark Returns to its Roots

The first Alone in the Dark game from '92 is basically the OG of survival horror, laying the groundwork for series like Resident Evil and Silent Hill, which is why enthusiasts often seek out platforms to buy Xbox games. While those two blew up big-time, Alone in the Dark kinda fizzled out by the early 2000s. The spin-offs dropped in '08 and '15 pretty much sealed its fate. But in 2018, THQ Nordic swooped in, snagged the rights, and announced they're rebooting the OG game. They're aiming to bring it back to its roots while giving it a modern makeover. We got to test out the PS5 version early, and it's clear: there's a ton of legacy to live up to, but the competition in the genre has leveled up big time, especially in the action department.

Evolving Darkness: A Contemporary Twist on the Classic Tale

Alone in the Dark kicks off with a spooky car ride through the swamps of the American Southwest, where we meet Emily Hartwood and Edward Carnby, embarking on a journey that has sparked interest in platforms offering options to buy PS5 games. Carnby's a private eye hired by Emily to find her missing uncle Jeremy, who's chilling at the Derceto Manor sanatorium, far off the grid. Once you're there, you gotta pick which of these two you're rolling with for the whole game. Emily and Carnby each see the story unfold differently in some scenes, so it's worth running it back a few times to catch it all. You can only get those alternative endings after you've seen the "normal" one with both characters. Alone in the Dark sticks to the '92 original's vibe but puts its own spin on things instead of just rehashing the plot. You don't need to know anything about the ancient debut to dive right in.

Mysteries of Derceto Manor: Navigating Haunted Hallways

No matter which main character you pick, Alone in the Dark spins a gripping detective tale with supernatural twists. It's set in 1920s Southern USA, dripping with period costumes, decor, and a jazz-heavy soundtrack. The devs roped in real Hollywood heavyweights for Emily and Carnby. Jodie Comer (Killing Eve, Free Guy) nails the brave Emily, while David Harbour (Stranger Things) brings grumpy detective Carnby to life. They add serious personality to the main duo, with the original English voices shining a bit brighter, but the German dub ain't too shabby either. Even the side characters hold their own, like the perpetually griping housekeeper, the shady director, and the artsy celeb. They unfold through cinematic cutscenes, leaving you mostly to your own devices in between. Derceto Manor steals the spotlight as the main haunt. You navigate this eerie sanatorium in third-person, starting with lots of locked doors and blocked paths. To move forward, you'll snag clues and crack environmental puzzles like a pro.

Combat Frustrations: Navigating Survival in 'Alone in the Dark'

In Alone in the Dark, you've got three difficulty levels to choose from. The higher ones amp up monster toughness and cut back on gear. But since the combat's the weakest link, it just ends up being frustrating. You can opt in for puzzle hints too. Characters drop lines like "I've seen this before," and key details are highlighted in docs. Sometimes, it makes things too easy, but at least you won't wander clueless for ages. It's cool that you can pick which hints to use. The monsters hunting you are mostly cut from the same cloth. There's a handful of types—zombie dudes of different sizes, leeches, and these demon bat things. They all kinda move the same and go down quick. The only thing giving you a rush is the clunky controls. You can sneak around, but it just drags out the annoying parts without any real perks besides saving ammo.

A Call for Focus on Core Strengths

They really went all in! I kept wondering if the action parts were even needed like this. Personally, Alone in the Dark would be way better without them, more like those newer Sherlock Holmes games or Call of Cthulhu. If THQ Nordic wants to keep the series going, they gotta think hard about sticking with this formula or focusing on what it's really good at.
