This is something old that I’ll probably never get around to continuing,, probably,,, idk..... like damn this was back when I still wrote in past tense aaa
Thor paused, and Loki fell to a stop just behind him.
He silently watched his brother stare after the Warrior’s Three and Sif as they walked triumphantly into the grand mead hall, already hollering out the beginning of a saga they would compose on the spot of the adventure and victory they had all just now returned from. They were welcomed into the hall with great cheers and thunderous applause, and Loki saw, as Thor did, that they didn’t spare a single glance behind them, so certain they were that Thor would be at their backs.
Loki already knew that this saga would not include his part in the adventure and victory- just as none of the others had.
For whatever reason, it didn’t bother him as it normally would. Perhaps because his mind was focused on another goal to obtain than the attention of the Asgardian masses.
“We hardly ever spend time together,” he tried again.
Thor’s head snapped up, back to him, eyes confused as Loki knew they would be. His brother was so oblivious sometimes — alright. Most of the time.
“What do you mean, brother?” Thor asked, nonplussed. “We have just now returned from a great journey together, one with a story that will be ringing in the hall for centuries to come!”
“No,” Loki sighed, aching at the fact he once again had to explain it to this oaf. “No, you and your friends just came back from that journey, whereas I happened to be a tagalong.”
“You were not just — !”
“Brother, listen,” Loki requested, frustration clinging to his tone.
Thor’s brow raised. The younger man gestured at the entrance of the mead hall with a graceful wave of his hand. “Listen to them. They’re halfway into their great rendition of our so-called adventure to the skalds, and have you once heard them mention me?”
“Well, no,” Thor admitted sheepishly, but he forged on before Loki could continue, “but I am sure they’ll get to your part soon!”
“‘My part’?” Loki asked incredulously. “Thor, there is no ‘my part,’ I was there for the entire thing, just as you were!”
“Loki,” the firstborn began tiredly, seemingly having realized something, “I know you wish for a larger attention from-”
“No,” Loki waved a dismissive hand. “No, that’s not even what I’m here about. Tell me, when was the last time we spent an adventure together- just you and I? Without your friends?” He added quickly, seeing Thor open his mouth to most likely refer to the one they’d just returned from. That didn’t count!
“They’re your friends as well,” Thor muttered quietly, but Loki could see the smidgen of doubt that underlaid his words — finally.
Loki crossed his arms, raised a brow, and waited.
Finally, after several long moments of silence where he could practically see the gears in Thor’s head spinning overtime, Thor’s shoulders slumped, and the great brute gave him this frankly pathetically helpless, sorrowful expression.
“I… I cannot recall,” Thor admitted, before he hurriedly rushed to try and assuage Loki’s imaginary irritation, “— but I am sure there has been-”
“No, there hasn’t,” Loki told him, feeling exhaustion pull at the edge of his consciousness. “Trust me. I’ve looked.”
Thor was silent, staring at him with a heartbreaking look that would move any more-sensitive man to tears. His brother was like a kicked puppy, in that aspect.
“So?” Loki asked, tilting his head to the side. “Do you agree to come with me? I’ve found a realm that’s frankly quite fascinating, and I think you’d like it very much.”
Thor didn’t speak for a few moments. Loki saw him glancing hesitantly back toward the mead hall, where Sif was reaching the climax of their tale, with Fandral and Volstagg acting the part to the roaring entertainment of their crowd of spectators. Something in Loki’s chest tightened, and though it felt childish, he slowly brought one hand to hide behind his back and sentimentally crossed his fingers, hoping.
“I—” Thor began, but shook his head roughly. Loki’s heart began to sink- honestly, he should have known Thor wouldn’t want to spend time with his younger, useless, less popular-
“Little brother,” Thor started again, this time with a grand smile. “Of course I would love to spend time with you!”
The bitterness churning in his gut vanished so abruptly that it nearly left Loki dizzy. He was so discomposed that he couldn’t help but blurt out his first thought in response. “Yes, I didn’t think s- what? You would?”
Thor observed him, the usual loudness in his demeanor softened. There was a hint of regret in his smile as he looked over at him, before his shoulders straightened and he gave a firm nod. “You are right, it has been far too long since we last enjoyed each other’s company alone. Now, where is this realm you speak of?”
Loki blinked, thrown for a loop and feeling quite unlike himself in the face of this. Was he actually dreaming this up? He hadn’t thought it’d be this easy. “Ah… right now?”
“When else?” Thor asked, resting an elbow on Mjolnir’s head casually.
“Do you not… wish to partake in the feast, though?” Loki began cautiously, wondering why the hell he was saying this. He’d gotten what he wanted and what was he doing? Double checking to see if Thor were serious? Possibly undoing his agreement? Giving Thor an out?
“I have been to enough to know that nothing extraordinary will happen at this one,” Thor explained to him, humor shining in his eyes. He stepped forward and slung an arm around Loki’s stiff shoulders, and began to lead them away from the hall. “They will get by fine without my input- they have even already finished the saga! Let us go.”
“If you are sure…” Loki tried again, before giving himself a rough shake. “Alright then, this way.”
Thor followed after him with a smile, and if Loki felt the thrum of eagerness or excitement running through his chest- well, no one had to know.

“Brother, we are forbidden from traveling to Midgard,” Thor told him sternly when he caught on to what he was saying.
Loki rolled his eyes. “No, it is just heavily suggestion that we do not go. And everyone listens because they all think Midgard is boring and “lesser” than the other realms. I have spent a cursory visit there just recently, however, and I do not understand the same. The Midgardians have come far in these last centuries and it is far from boring.”
Thor struggled with his words for a moment, before heaving a great sigh. “You are going to drag me there no matter what I say, aren't you?”
“You've already agreed to come,” Loki reprised smugly, and Thor gave an even louder sigh. “No going back now!”
And with a hand on his brother's arm, he tugged them both through the branches of Yggdrasil and on to their destination.
Convincing Thor of all this ended up being the best decision he'd ever made.
