#the man who laughs#l’homme qui rit#gwynplaine#artwork#once again heavily drawing from a godfrey kneller portrait (of a young man. i think thats the name)#anyway this is from my mental alternate universe in which fermain was never abducted hence gwynplaine never existed. it makes me sad so i#dont think about it much but it is In There#i debated for a while about whether i felt comfortable drawing this given that it feels ableist to un-disable a disabled guy but ultimately#i figured that his physical differences were forced upon him by torture (in his own words) so there would have been a version of him withou#them had thd comprachicos not got hold of him. if he was born with them i would definitely not be comfortable with it but as it is i am#thinking about it as Alternate Universe Gwynplaine rather than like Gwynplaine’s Real Face or anything#does that all make sense. anyway had he grown up as a normal young lord i imagine him being a bit of a beau given how every character talks#about how Super Fit & Hot & Sexy he is from the neck down#obviously he is also all of those things from the neck up too but those of us who appreciate the truth are a persecuted minority#i havent ironed out any details whatsoever yet (because it makes me sad so i dont think about it much) but i am getting there.
