I get the point of pointing out CO2 emissions of Taylor’s jet but at the same time I’ve only seen this directed specifically at her and not other super rich people/celebrities with private jets….So it does come off a little bit as a way for people to hate Taylor and feel morally superior about it, rather than being about actual climate activism.
The original ask just asked my opinion on the cease-and-desist so I didn’t get into this but it’s definitely a factor in the overall conversation! Something I’ve struggled with is when people bring up legitimate criticism for someone for petty reasons. Ex, fans immediately digging up dirt on their favorite celebrities’ partners to justify disliking them beyond envy. Does that make the criticism less valid? She’s pretty inescapable right now and not everyone “gets it” so I think there are a lot of people eager to latch onto any controversy so they can go “SEE! I was right!” (See: people creating entire feuds over Lana having a straight face in a few shots at the Grammys.) Combine that with a legitimate issue (CO₂ emissions are bad, full stop) and the story’s going to gain special attention.
So do I think everyone has the purest intentions calling out her jet usage? No, but it’s a good conversation to have, especially within our fan space. Ideally every celebrity who tops those carbon footprint lists would get equal criticism, and hopefully we get closer to that reality by having these discussions. I don’t think the answer is to write off these concerns completely.
#but yeah! be aware of people’s motives and biases in general.#especially in the beginning of her career she dealt with a LOT of baseless criticism so I get the instinct to defend and discredit but I#think sometimes Swifties brush off real issues the same way they brush off ‘she’s an attention seeker for dancing at award shows’#some issues are bigger than her#I don’t think YOU’RE doing that btw! just some trends I’ve noticed especially on Twitter#anon#ask#asks
