I just recently got back into JOHN DOE and I needed to write for my eldritch husband, so here's some fluff to balance out all the angst I've written :3

It was a warm night, the air pooling through the open doors of the gas station filling you with a comfort you hadn’t felt since this morning. The comfort you had felt this morning was different though, that warmth was one of your unhuman boyfriend known as ‘John Doe’. if that was his real name or one he had just made up you’d never know, but you loved him all the same. Thinking about it now you realize how much you missed him, and how much you’d rather be at home with him right now… Say, Doe hasn’t visited you today… That’s a little weird, you think. The A/C of the gas station flicks a strand of your hair into your mouth, and you fumble around to spit it out. You make a small gagging noise as you pull the hair from your mouth, huffing in annoyance. 

As soon as you turn to gaze back at the front counter two large, yellow eyes meet yours and you flinch backward. You fumble back a little, blinking rapidly as you stare at your eldritch boyfriend. His eyes were so wide you’d swear they’d pop from their sockets, his red pupils in small heart shapes that pulsed slowly. His breathing is slow as his head rests on his palms, his gaze unwavering from you. “Hello, my love!!” Doe finally speaks, tilting his head slightly to the side, his eyes closing as he smiles widely, and his hair curling perfectly to frame his cheeks. Seemly finding your breath you let out a harsh sigh, rubbing your fingers at your temple. As much as you loved Doe he somehow always scared you, though he always said you looked so cute when you were scared… If Doe had the choice, he would scare you all the time! He never meant any harm by it, just harmless little startles now and again. He just loved the little face you made, along with how you gasped and jumped.

Doe giggles warmly, as warmly as a breeze over the open ocean. Maybe you’d go a little easy on him… Just this once. “Doe, baby, you can’t do that. Especially when I’m at work!” You scolded him, your brows furrowed irritatedly. Your tone was much softer than it had been previously when scolding him the other day, only since you weren’t too mad at him. He giggles once again, his eyes now open and the corners crinkled upwards as he smiled brightly. You often liked to make the comparison that Doe smiled like the Chesire cat, his smiles always wide and somehow full of mischievous even when not meaning to be. His smiles were pleasant though, always contagious. This was all true now, as you could feel your lips curl into a slight smile. 

“Okay…. I guess I’ll let you off the hook this one time, but don’t expect this to happen often!” You give into his silly smile and giggling, and he bounces on the heels of his feet at this. “Yay!!” He stands straight as he throws his arms into the air at his victory, smiling brightly and triumphantly and he bounces on his heels. He looked like a kid who had just gotten ice cream, his eyes shining brightly as he looked at you. God… You’d managed to get the best boyfriend in the world, you think happily as you grin at him. A soft chuckle leaves your lips when Doe leans back on the counter, his face a few inches from yours. As you both stare into each other's eyes you realize it’s just ticked over to the end of your shift, and you do a small victory lap in your mind. Screaming internally as this means you get to leave this hellscape and go home, now with Doe at your side. A small kiss is placed on Doe’s lips before you pull away from the counter, “My shifts over, Doe. You came at a good time.” you smile cheerfully at him. 

The bouncing on his heels intensifies, now flapping his hands as well as he stims happily. Small chirp-like squeals leave Doe’s lips as he watches you clock out, and he grabs your hand right as you wall around the counter. “I have you all to myself now, love!!!” He practically squeals, holding your hand tightly in both of his. You laugh warmly at this and nod as he pulls you out of the gas station. “Yes, yes! You’ve got me all to yourself, Doe.” He giggles happily when he hears you say this, slowing down to let you catch up to him. The two of you walk side by side, your fingers intertwined tightly in a warm embrace. The warm night breeze floats over the two of you, a feeling of contentment filling your senses.

i finished breath of the wild (loz for those who don't know) and before I get to totk i wanna at least talk about the casual/subtle/built-in misogyny in the game and get it off my mind

1) the first i noticed directly was how purah OFC wasn't allowed to be an old woman. two old women in a game? naahhh that's crazy, let's make the one that's a scientist a loli stereotype 🤪 "sure she has the body of a cutesie 6 year old (that looks nothing like the other children in the game) but she's ACTUALLY like 120 sooo :P" plus that stupid stance thing that she does with that noise is so fucking... weird i can't stand it. why couldn't she just be a wise old woman?

2) backing up to purah's village and family, let's talk about her grand niece Paya. complete fan service right off the bat. that noise she makes when you start a conversation with her is straight up pornographic. and she's nervous around men. and she's in love with link. there's NO other personality we could give her nintendo?

3) Mipha. also in love with link. she dies lol ofc. very soft spoken and is a healer. again whole personality is being in love with link. there's some side notes about her connecting with van ruta really well but majority of her story is about her love for link. 😐

4) all the female zora are in love with Prince Sidon. he has a fan club. except for one:

(and also one female zora that is married and got so carried away with fishing she forgot about her family. she kinda slays so I'll give them that but getting to my point)

5) one of the younger female zora; a side quest you're able to do is ssaauurrr weird. so the zora age slower and live longer than the hylians (humans) and there's a female character that wants to find love cuz she doesn't have a thing for Sidon like the others. she sends love letters down the river to some guy she's corresponding with. they meet once you complete the side quest and he's an adult human with a child female zora. but it's okay cuz she's a late bloomer. 😰 also also side note there's another female zora not in love with Prince Sidon, she's in love with link. or was. she got married after link went missing but like CMOOONNNN

6) zelda's entire damsel in distress character. others have worded this better than me. also in love with link and was completely "useless" until "her love for him" unlocked her powers. not when like, her entire kingdom and her father and all the champions died that was chill ig. NOT MY MANLET KNIGHT ESCORT NAAUURR. i never thought i would start to dislike link ever but here we are.

7) the great fairy/ies. but this has been a thing. and they kinda slay. but still it's kind of weird to be in what is considered a child's game.

8) the rito. the males of the rito are known as flying warriors, skilled in archery. the women: their singing 😐 literally give me a break here. both male and female birds sing. at least majority of the children in the village are these sillay girls but that doesn't make up for the fact that all they do is sing. and stay home. and cook. and like,, stand around.

9) the gerudo is just......... like they could be SO COOL but that's not allowed. for those of u that dont know the gerudo are an all (most of the time) female race (one male is born every 100 years)(oh and btw when he is born he's like hyrule wizard hitler very cool not racist at all when u look up the gerudo (only sometimes tho i think to be fair)) and they strictly forbid men from entering their village. sounds kinda cool right? yeah that's where that stops. a majority of the gerudo talk about marriage or men in general. the female children gather up at some point in the day and when you interact with them, they're talking about marriage and falling in love. the gerudo leave their village when old enough and go out to find a husband. the older gerudo women are portrayed as lonely and regretful. and of course there's the whole thing of link either having to sneak in in most games or CROSSDRESS like in botw to get into the village. but it's for the good for the world or whatever. oh and btw, in botw the male that link gets the crossdressing clothes from has the same voice sounds as the only other gnc male, who is largely portrayed as gay. verrrrryyy interesting stuff here. very subtle.

10) the gorons. okay I like the gorons. just silly guys. but that's the thing there's no female gorons. i forgot their origin and lore but they're basically rock creatures and are very big and buff. and nintendo couldn't make a female character like that 😱 so there's just no female gorons. im sure it's explained away but bruh.

okay this has gotten too long and that's all i can think of off the top of my head anyway.

actually i’ll get into it why not. so holly italian american in 1950s (not a good thing to be in 1950s) in new york city (which was a mix mash of rich but also very poor. just walking past your neighborhood would mean going into a new world essentially). joseph and suzi do their absolute best to keep her safe and away from the worst of it but holly is a curious kid: she is joseph “heh. what will happen if i do xyz” joestar and suzi “i love teasing i love being sillay i love poking and prodding and see ppl get flustered” q’s daughter ok she does not keep her nose clean

anyway jotaro gets his sense of justice from SOMEWHERE ie HOLLY so when she sees really intense like, gang turf wars and classism and stuff, she goes nuts. esp re the police-community tension that was particularly notorious at the time (holly didn’t trust them). so obviously she takes it into her own hands and runs headfirst into the shit

i dont think she realizes it’s a systemic problem so she’s just going at it trying to fix it all on an individual basis and she enjoys that work but it is EXHAUSTING. she thinks of herself as a one man army cause she has this special super power (hamon but she doesnt know what it’s called) but that doesnt mean she’s invincible (she will have a hard time learning this)

she makes friends and all that and they rib into her HARD for being a little rich girl who clealry has a savior complex. but also they do love holly and holly loves them. also their perspective of her actions does help her consider what would be the most effective way of dealing with things. her friends love her but they tell her that it’s obvious she’s only doing this cause she gets gratification out of it when the more successful way of helping them would to be throwing money into lobbying for better community care and safety nets. holly admittedly is not very good at smooth talking tho so her friends def help her on that

however she also makes enemies along the way with her meddling and in true jojo protag fashoin she and her friends get attacked and people Die. esp cause the police do not like her so no one is coming to help. holly is so depserate and begging anyone to jsut come help and it’s only then she realizes she can’t save everyone -- too many people are bleeding out around her and she only has two hands and a rudimentary understanding of hamon -- and she realizes how it’s indicative of how she was acting this whole time, how she as one person cannot save everyone from systemic abuse, and she, like her son will one day, shuts down. the only way she can conceptualize it is by blaming herself, if just so she has something to obsess over, if just so she has a way to guarantee herself that this will never, ever happen again

so she closes off, but not in the same way jotaro does -- she’s friendly in her new aloofness. she has a hard time connecting ever again (sadao is patient and kind when they meet later during college and she loves him, she loves him so much, but she’ll never fully open up to him precisely because of that reason and it breaks his heart). she goes joseph to lobby for better societal safety nets like her friends told her to do and she tries to smother an individual fighting spirit because she’s convinced being on the offense herself will lead to only death. she’s lost confidence in herself. she doesnt believe in her ability anymore <- this btw is why her stand is killing her. it’s a self-fulfilling prophecy. she believes she’s not strong enough, she DOESN’T WANT TO BE strong enough because she’s convinced she can only lead people to ruin. she HAS the will power to have a stand which is why she was even DEVELOPING IT in the FIRST PLACE but she just was too scared of what that meant. she wanted to believe she was passive so she smothered it and it started choking her in return

^ i think holly and her stand have a rough relationship at first because of this. esp cause like, once dio was defeated and holly saw how her stubbornly keeping to passivity just meant others would have to be assertive for her (and therefore dying where she thinks she shouldve), she accepts to an extent that she has will. she still doesnt trust it but she accepts she has it. so her stand grows in and it’s rocky. think a less explosive purple haze and fugo relationship. holly post part 3 works on accepting it and in turn herself, but it’s never gonna be perfect because her only son, her baby, cannot trust her (cause jotaro is jsut like holly in that he’s scared of himself and what he could do to his loved ones, so he cuts them off; however holly blames herself for this. literally snake eating its own tail ohh kujos). sadao helps where he can though
