thinking about that one JillianEve video where she talks about the disconnect from the items around us and the growing normalization in not knowing where the things you use come from and how there are made? yeah
#the entire video is just phenomenal#and something that resonates so much#uriel posting#not saying that everyone needs to learn how to spin yarn and metal smithing or anything#but the disconnect she talks about? the feeling of being so disconnected and ignorant of how#things you take for granted came into existence? the loss of millenia of craft and artisan traditions? yeah#it feels especially relevant for me because as a fiber artist? fiber crafts actually skipped a generation in my family#my grandmother (mom’s mom) and mom both used to crochet and other things but have long stopped doing it#and my grandmother (dad’s mom) used to be a seamstress but once again stopped doing it as she got older#and i did not learn any of my crafts from these women. i ended up teaching myself#and something about that is so sad. how the chain of passed down knowledge gets broken#i will say when my dad’s mom was still alive she was so delighted i was interested in fiber arts#she even was so excited to alter a prom dress for me because i was too short for the length#idk. glad there is more of an interest in fiber arts nowadays but this video resonates in like. my bones and goop
