do you like Greek myth in general or just epic?
I'd say in general,
My grandmother's family traveled from greece to turkey when she was just a baby so i really dont have any ties to greece at all. Not the language nor the culture. And i won't stand here and claim to be greek in any way because I'm really not. But it is what got me interested in learning about the history which in turn lead me down the rabbit hole of learning about ancient greece. (And with it parts of the mythology)
A couple years ago i took a trip to Ephesus (Efes, izmir) and in the future if given the opportunity I'd love to go see the remains of Troy next. (Truva, Hissarlik)
(The obsession with -) Epic kind of came out of nowhere (cough Jay's tiktok) and now I'm scrambling to get my hands on a translation of the Odyssee and the iliad.
When posting about Epic i don't really bother with historical accuracy because i consider it it's own thing that's undeniably modern so i just have fun with it.

So collegiate a cappella may or may not be your thing.  And choral arrangements of Ladino songs may or may not be your thing.  But if either or both of those are in fact your thing, this is a really lovely performance.  “Puncha Puncha” is one of the many Ladino songs about the pain of love, and you can kind of imagine someone’s old abuelita in Sarajevo or Izmir singing this while doing chores around the house or while stuffing kibbeh or something.  It’s likely that the text is several hundred years older than the melody, of course, but that kind of layering is part of what gives Ladino song a feeling of being lived-in and loved.

Peri and her family moved to Briar Ridge when she was seven after her father accepted a position as a professor within a nearby university's Islamic World Studies program. She's pretty much lived all over as an adult and even has a few assignments through Doctors Without Borders under her belt but she hasn't lived in Briar Ridge since the day she left. Well, not until about two or so months ago. Ianto:
Tumblr media
Wears suits, looks like an English gentleman, or rather tea boy, tries to be as normal and boring as one could to not gain to much attention. Is the coffee maker/barista of his team (but he does the best one, so it's good he is doing that). He is the receptionist at a tourist information office
That's what everyone sees. A suit wearing polite unassuming restrained teaboy.
Now, behind the quiet facade:
The tourist office is actually a cover, as behind that office an alien hunting institute is located for which he actually works as assistant/butler, cleaner, driver, catologust and researcher and is good on field missions. He is the boy for everything. In the basement of that institute, he has hidden his girlfriend who had been modified by cybermen to turn into a cyberwoman as well. He hoped, he will find a cure. Unfortunately there was none before she escaped and tried to kill him and his team. His pet pterodactyl and his boss killed her.
At one point, Ianto allowed a slave trader to take his boss. Ianto later rescued him from this after all.
Eventually he fell in love and got together with his boss and they can be broken together forever. (Unfortunately not, but we are disillusioned and don't want to know that one of them dies permanently at one point.)
+ improper usage of a stopwatch
+ he bought pet insurance for his pterodactyl while he tried to land a spaceship (he is no pilot, he knows shit about landing a flying vehicle, he tried to land that thing with the help of a lady from a call center in Izmir, Turkey)
+ he shot his boss (yes, the one he is in love with) in the head to check if he is the real one and not someone/something else pretending to be the boss (don't worry, boss is unable to stay dead)
And I think I was just scratching on the surface. There is definitely a not normal person behind that normal wall he had build as his appearance.
Pete:
starts off as the comic relief side character. gets kidnapped and tortured. laughs in the face of the man electrocuting his dick. ends up sleeping with him later (by choice. like he wants him), decides he's in love witht he single most crazy unhinged character in the show and reduces him to like crying in his noodles because Pete escaped the safe house torture/sex dungeon where he was kinda a prisoner. shoots his man in the arm (to keep from being killed by other people), beats the shit out of him (that one is for personal reasons), the man confesses his undying love and kisses him before running off, pete chases after him, has to point a gun at him again, the man runs off, pete quits his job and chases after him again, pete stops the man from killing himself and is like "I'm your pet, you're my owner, you have to feed me" (it's a callback from their days in the safehouse torture/sex dungeon), the man gets shot by someone else, and pete goes crazy kills the guy who shot him. so yeah he's totally just a silly comic relief character
youtube
(^little video that shows how not normal he is lol. cw for torture and violence)

- is OMER CELIK late to class again? how does the 24 year old SENIOR expect to get their degree in PSYCHOLOGY? professors say that they are LIVELY but i heard that they are CYNICAL. hopefully they’ll make it to graduation! - SPORTS & CLUBS: ice hockey (center)
STATS
full name: omer celik.
age: twenty-four.
gender & pronouns: cismale. he/him.
zodiac sign: libra.
date of birth: oct 1st.
place of birth: izmir, turkey.
sexuality: bisexual.
BACKSTORY
omer celik grew up in izmir, turkey. the middle child of 5 siblings. there was always something happening in the celik household.
his parents wanted nothing more than to cultivate a proper life for the celik siblings and never once pressured them into/out of anything. they were the most supportive pair but also the most overworked. the small age gap between the siblings never made things easy whether it was financially or not.
when omer was old enough to understand this, he started helping around the house and picking up his own slack.
though omer was a bit of a dreamer. he was constantly imagining what he wanted out of life and was the type to put action plans in place to try and get there.
hockey has always been one of his biggest goals but also generally being able to take care of his family and pay back his parents for all they put into raising them and putting their kids first.
omer worked hard and earned a hockey scholarship to tcu and that's when he made the big decision to move away from his home and his family. it wasn't an easy one because he's so naturally attached to them and he's such a family guy in general but he has a vision!!
failure isn't really an option for him at this point and hockey is everything. he wants to go pro after college and eventually do the whole buy his family a big house and surprise them with gifts and spoil the hell out of them.
so while he's fun company at parties, he'll refrain from drinking or going hard, specifically if he has practice the next day or something because it's always health first!!
PERSONALITY
big family guy as established already
gift giving is his love language he loves to spoil people even just simple things like making them playlists is fun to him
he also really loves cooking and is slowly learning how to because living away from home has made him miss nice home cooked meals
he's really hard on himself sometimes especially after a loss but he doesn't let himself get too hung up on things and moves on. his motto is i didn't come this far just to come this far.
hes slightly struggling with his grades because he doesn't know balance tbh.. he's so hyperfocused on sports and succeeding there that it's a bit difficult to just sit down and focus sometimes. he's trying his best tho.
WANTED CONNECTIONS
childhood friends (if ur chara grew up in turkey this would be cool!!)
best friends, ride or dies, confidants (he's friends w everyone most of the time but these people are his inner circle, core bffs)
ex friends (miscommunication trope perhaps? we love that..)
unrequited crush
friends w benefits (bc he doesn't have time for relationships lowkey doesn't let himself date)
awkward one night stand
tutor perhaps bc he will not sit down and study unless its last minute so he needs someone to hold him accountable

So you said Turkey is one of your top 4 places? Can you tell me something about your time there?
(I've never been but I've got a special reason why it's close to my heart and I'm curious about it)
yes! i loved turkey, which is saying a lot given the time i went there.
i just happened to end up in turkey the day before the airport got bombed in 2016 and i left about four days before the attempted coup, so it was not a very safe time to travel but oh well!
firstly, istanbul was really quiet. the hagia sophia, the blue mosque, the grand bazaar etc., everything was pretty quiet, which meant that we got a really personalised view of things despite the amazing weather. istanbul is stunning. the architecture is amazing, the food is so tasty (everywhere we went in turkey, actually), the locals we met were really friendly and wanted to chat! we had great convos with people at restaurants, tourist spots, shisha bars, the supermarket...you name it. THE BREAD. turkish bread is next level. divine. baba ganoush. TURKISH COFFEE. the strongest coffee ever i love it. they also had some absolutely banging iced black coffee. i remember we took bottles of it to the coast with us!
we also went down to fethiye and did some of the turquoise coast. that is the most beautiful ocean i have ever swum in. crystal clear, deep blue, perfection. all the islands are stunning, the sunsets are out of this world. sleeping out on the deck of a boat in the summer heat under the stars is heaven to me. we would only wake up in the morning when we got too hot and then just jump straight into the ocean to cool off.
i also went to izmir but not for long enough to really comment! i want to go back to turkey so badly, mostly because i wanted to do pamukkale and cappadocia! but i'd also love to go back to istanbul when it's thriving!
i'm curious about your interest (although no pressure to tell me!)

GETTING TO SEE IMPORTANT RESPONSIBILITIES AS MUNDANE TASKS AND THE QURANIC METHOD OF TASRIF: Part 1
Question: Concerning the duties we are responsible for, we are sometimes taken by a feeling of carrying out a mundane task. What are your recommendations for breaking this feeling?
Even at actions and services that take start with the deepest love and enthusiasm at the beginning, people will be doomed to monotony and doing things in a spiritless fashion, if works and activities carried out are not revitalized by bringing new aspects and depths to the project. This can be done with new hues, patterns, and designs. In such a situation, even if the task you carry out is a vital one, it will seem to you as ordinary, and thus you will try to finish it quickly, in a careless fashion. For this reason, if you have a noble ideal, such as making people love God and His Messenger, then you need to continuously make variations, not let people be weary due to the same format, and not view your responsibilities as mundane activities.
Renewed enthusiasm through renewed formats
It is possible to relate our topic with the revelation and message of the Qur’an, in terms of its method of tasrif—presenting a truth in renewed formats. When you study the miraculous Qur’an from this aspect, you see that the same concept and meaning are used in different parts in different styles and formats. For instance, the parable of Moses is repeated in different parts since it is a good example to help solve different problems, to show different ways out, and to emphasize a Prophetic determination and struggle. In spite of that, no parable of Moses is a copy of another one in a different part. Every time, the same parable comes up with different statements. In terms of voicing the same truth with different words, God Almighty changes the speaker to Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad, peace be upon them all. This is the meaning of tasrif, or presenting the message in varied forms.
Presenting issues in such a renewed form and voice has a refreshing effect on people. Giving your message in renewed forms will present their true depth and immensity, and also draws attention to those truths. This will evoke respect toward the matters you represent. The values in our hand are precious in themselves. Therefore, they should be presented not in a blacksmith’s but a jeweler’s shop. There are so many beautiful truths that they seem worthless in the hands of people who fail to present them as they deserve to be presented. On the other hand, so many pale truths gain a different majesty through the tongue of people who compose and present the matter very well and thus fascinate people. Sometimes, falsehood might gain acceptance through cunning rhetoric whereas truth may be deprived of the appreciation it deserves for not being presented successfully. For this reason, if the matters you are trying to tell are truthful—they definitely are—then you must evoke due respect in others toward those truths by the Qur’anic method of tasrif.
Being in recognition of the era
Another important means of avoiding exhaustion and always staying fresh is recognition and consciousness of the era. Given that believers are supposed to be “children of their time” then we need to know the requirements of our time well and follow appropriate methods. For example, if I start speaking today in the same way as I gave sermons in İzmir or Edremit some thirty or forty years ago, it would be too simple. Today’s listeners are very different than those in the past; most of the current audience knows those matters already. What needs to be done today is to take the issues with their philosophical depths and show their reasonableness.
For example, if an Islamic topic you are going to tell is related to jurisprudence, you should be able to view the issue from Shatibi’s viewpoint or discuss the issue within the frame of the ideas in Taftazani’s Talwih. If you can do that, people will find it worthwhile to listen to you. Otherwise, they may not be willing to listen to the truths you are to tell. Given that God Almighty, the Eternal Teacher, shows us a way by using tasrif in the Qur’an, then we are supposed to utilize it well.
Having pointed out the importance of grasping the meaning of being children of our time, I would like to draw attention to another point that might be misunderstood. As it is not correct to be detached from the conditions of the time one lives in, it is also not correct to attach the issue completely to the time and dismiss everything with a historical approach as a thing of the past. If I give such a sense with what I have told above, I seek refuge in God from that; the eternal truths of the Qur’an never change. However, there are open-ended points both in the Book and the authenticated Tradition of the noble Prophet that are left to conditions of the time. So the children of their time are supposed to fill those points with due scholarly judgment and deduction (ijtihad and istinbat). In addition, choosing from judgments and rulings made in different periods to suit the needs of contemporary believers is another important issue to be considered. These are the fields where time becomes an interpreter. “Time is an important interpreter; it is not to be objected when it reveals its ruling.”

Dilan Seyfi had always been destined for greatness—or at least, that’s what everyone told her. A child prodigy, her paintings were mesmerizing from the moment she could hold a brush. She wasn’t just good—she was exceptional. The kind of exceptional that made teachers beam with pride and made her parents boast to anyone who would listen. So when she was accepted into Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, it wasn’t a surprise. It was expected.
But school didn’t shape her the way she had hoped. If anything, it dulled the spark. The praise that had once fueled her felt routine, and while her classmates struggled to find their style, she had already mastered hers. She left with a degree but no real sense of growth. That didn’t matter, though—her paintings spoke for themselves. Europe wanted her. Galleries in Paris, Berlin, and Milan clamored for her work. She was young, brilliant, untouchable. And then came the calls from New York and L.A. It felt inevitable. Of course, she was going to conquer the U.S. She was too big to fail.
But she did.
American audiences didn’t see what the Europeans had seen in her work. Her first few exhibitions barely made a ripple. Collectors weren’t interested. The buzz died down, and suddenly, she was scrambling—pouring her own money into shows that no one came to, chasing an audience that wasn’t looking for her. She told herself it was just a rough patch. Just one more show. Just one more loan.
Going home wasn’t an option. Back home, her family still spoke of her like she was a legend. Their little prodigy. The one who made it. She couldn’t stand the thought of facing them, of hearing the hushed whispers and seeing the disappointment in their eyes. She would rather scrape by in L.A. than go back and admit she wasn’t who they thought she was.
And so now, she’s here—an assistant at the Royal Bidding House, surrounded by the art world but utterly disconnected from it. The job requires a degree, but she does nothing that needs one. She’s a glorified paper-pusher, fetching coffee and organizing auctions for people who barely notice her. She hates every second of it, but it’s better than facing the truth. Better than going home.
So she keeps digging the hole deeper, knowing that eventually, someone’s going to figure out she's not what she says she is. But she can’t stop. Because the moment she stops, the moment she admits this is over, she’s nothing. And Dilan Seyfi has spent her entire life being someone.
H E A D C A N N O N S:
Dilan still paints, but only in secret—small canvases tucked away in her tiny apartment, unfinished because finishing them would mean admitting she still cares.
She tells herself she’s just waiting for the right moment to make a comeback, but deep down, she knows she doesn’t believe in her own talent anymore.
Despite everything, she still dresses like she belongs in the art world—statement pieces, bold colors, the kind of effortless style that makes her look more successful than she is.
She hates the wealthy collectors who parade through the Royal Bidding House, but she envies them too—how easily they buy the kind of life she spent years bleeding for.
No matter how bad things get, she refuses to take a flight home, because the idea of walking through the airport in Istanbul with nothing to show for herself is more terrifying than anything else.
