Maybe I'm too into the Everlark Kool-Aid, but I really don't see Katniss marrying anyone other than Peeta. Why? Because of the bread. The bread that gave her so much hope and changed her in such a profound way. I 100% believe that if she married Gale or someone else, she would inevitably think of Peeta when she and her husband-to-be burn bread. She will be reminded of that day. The day that Peeta became the boy with the bread. And everything will just feel wrong. Idk, maybe she'll be the run away bride in that world, searching for him. And Peeta will always be there, hoping and waiting for her.

One of the (many) reasons I deeply dislike the "Annie and Finnick's wedding was only a propaganda move that meant absolutely nothing to anyone" take is that is... simply not accurate?
It is often claimed Plutarch had Finnick and Annie intentionally wear Peeta and Katniss' outfits to send some type of message, but that means to completely ignore how it was Katniss herself that offered to give Annie a dress for her wedding:
“when Plutarch has a fit over what the bride will wear — I volunteer to take Annie back to my house in 12, where Cinna left a variety of evening clothes in a big storage closet downstairs.”
How Peeta himself also made their wedding cake:
“As surely as the embroidery stitches in Annie’s gown were done by Cinna’s hand, the frosted flowers on the cake were done by Peeta’s.”
And to also disregard how everyone else felt and how happy and excited they were to be part of it:
“When it’s announced that children are wanted to sing District 4’s wedding song, practically every kid shows up. There’s no shortage of volunteers to help make decorations. In the dining hall, people chat excitedly about the event.”
All in all, it means to brush aside how everyone perceived their wedding as simply something good, genuinely so, and nothing linked to a false spectacle:
“Maybe it’s more than the festivities. Maybe it’s that we are all so starved for something good to happen that we want to be part of it.”

Livia Cardew, First Lady of Panem - TBOSAS
If he ever married, he’d choose someone incapable of swaying his heart. Someone he hated, even, so they could never manipulate him the way Lucy Gray had. Never make him feel jealous. Or weak. Livia Cardew would be perfect. He imagined the two of them, the president and his first lady, presiding over the Hunger Games a few years from now.

inspired by reading @thegreenthepeacetheorange’s mockingjay reread.
this is probably just me but this line
A chill runs through me. Am I really that cold and calculating? Gale didn’t say, “Katniss will pick whoever it will break her heart to give up,” or even “whoever she can’t live without.” Those would have implied I was motivated by a kind of passion. But my best friend predicts I will choose the person who I think I “can’t survive without.” There’s not the least indication that love, or desire, or even compatibility will sway me. I’ll just conduct an unfeeling assessment of what my potential mates can offer me. As if in the end, it will be the question of whether a baker or a hunter will extend my longevity the most.
because why does katniss truly still identity peeta as a baker???? they’re in the middle of an actual war, like 50 percent of the people katniss has ever met in her entire life are dead, everyone’s stuck in a tiny hidden basement without a shower and peeta was literally a prisoner of the other side for weeks, if not months. when was the last time that boy baked anything, let alone enough to be called a baker???? 😭😭😭😭

haymitch and chaff rant once again but do you think about how if they were partners hypothetically how they would have a reputation to uphold (despite being alcoholics and despite being shunned for it even though it IS a sickness) and how homosexuality would not bode well as a victor, especially not BETWEEN two victors. and how they'd have never gotten to live a life where their love wasn't scrutinized/something shameful not only because one of them doesn't survive to see that life, but maybe it would've been frightening. i love you/despite it being a form of rebellion/despite what we are and what we represent. i love yous could never be public, they would never be a common word at gatherings where your hand is clasped over mine and the night has crept in and we've had too much to drink!!!

Hi 🌲
I couldn't stop thinking about Johanna and reader getting married. I think Johanna would randomly propose (so random she may propose after a nap).
At the wedding I imagine it would just be reader, Johanna, and their pets.
In the book, each district seems to have a wedding tradition, so I think in District 7, they may plant a tree to symbolize their growing love. Since they use rope to help climb trees, maybe they could tie a knot in a rope, with each of them holding an end to symbolize their trust in one another and how their lives are now intertwined.
And the next time she sends a letter to Finnick, Katniss, or Haymitch, she'll just attach a picture of her and reader in their wedding gowns with a note saying, "l got married, by the way"
I would love if you could do some headcanons or a one-shot about it, but even so, I wanted to share it with you because I couldn't stop thinking about it
this is going to be a ramble, soz, but i'll definitely add it to my list for a one shot idea.
words can't describe how much i love this idea, thank you so much for sharing it with me! honestly, i agree with everything you said, because i love the idea of johanna and you having a really private and intimate wedding, and the thought of her just mailing everyone a photo of the ceremony as a kind of, "oh yeah, by the way, here's what happening in my life recently." but in reality, honestly, i think the two of you would have your own private ceremony and then like, a nice little gathering with the remaining victors (and finnick because, he's definitely raising his son in district four, i don't know what everyone else is talking about. mutts? what mutts?). i just love the idea of their being like a first dance or something, and johanna and reader are gazing into each other's eyes so lovingly, and everyone's swooning over them (well just peeta and annie, i can't really see the others swooning over them, tbh). but if you and johanna want to, you'll have a quiet ceremony for just the two of you. either way, she doesn't mind. as long as she has you.
also, for the wedding tradition, that's literally so creative??? give me your brain please, because you have come up with some of the best prompts i've ever received, and now you've given me another banging one. i think that johanna wouldn't really be into that kind of stuff, she's not a very traditional kind of girl, but you'd be super into it so of course she'd pretend to love the idea as well. the tying of the rope kind of reminds me of the greek wedding crowns, where they're joined by a ribbon i think (idk much about greek weddings, tbh, i've only seen my big fat greek wedding and i remember that scene.) i think that's such a cute wedding tradition, and secretly johanna would love it because she's terrified of losing you, that physically tying you to her makes her feel comforted. the rope symbolises a lot more than just a union, it symbolises a connection that the two of you will always have.
for the tree idea, i think it would be one of those traditions where johanna would find it extremely corny, but because you find it endearing she doesn't say a single thing. she's on her knees, getting dirt under her fingernails with you just so she could plant this tree with you. if you needed a physical symbol of your growing love, then she'd give it to you, because you'd offered her more than she could ever repay you for. safety, comfort, contentment. you were home to her, and she wanted to show you how much she loved and trusted you in whatever way possible.
i can see wedding dresses going either way, tbh. you both wear one, or johanna wears a suit while you wear a dress, or vice versa. hell, i could even see one where you both wear suits. i don't think they'd be white though. white would remind johanna of snow and torture, so i could imagine like a red for her—purely because it would match her hair. and then for you, like a deep rich green, for the forest and the trees. (omg, i just realised those are christmas colours, but honestly, i don't think panem even has christmas, so it's just a bit of fun for us).
honestly, the wedding is set in the backyard, among nature. that's the vibe for the whole ceremony—people there or not. it's got a rustic, woodsy atmosphere and the two of you love it because it is just so, intrinsically, home. bonus points if johanna's saved the pinecones and all the stuff katniss got her in mockingjay, and made a little display with it.
as for the proposal (probably should have started off with this, lol, oh well), if it was by you, you'd have gone all out (not in a public way, but more of a romantic dinner or date way) and planned it to a 't'—and while johanna appreciates the effort and love you put into it, she'd love a more intimate proposal. and what's more intimate than when lying in bed together, watching the drool spill from your mouth as you snore slightly and take up most of the bed? she'd shake you awake and propose to you there, realising that she wanted to see that sight every morning when she woke up.

Finnick and Annie's wedding as an act of resistance through joy and love; as an open defiance for all the people that expected to see only death and destruction, for Finnick's clients/abusers who felt they were entitled to him (see the way they fainted when he recited his love poem for Annie all thinking they were his one true love), for Snow who saw him as his possession to trade to the highest bidder, who most probably wanted to do the same to Annie, who seeked to control their whole lives and keep their relationship a secret; their wedding as a symbol for rebellion through love and happiness and dance and music and cake >>>>

gif/photoset for my fic, All That You Can Do which is an AU of my other fic, Close Your Eyes
unusual fic-specific prompts ask game (still open!)
Gifmaker's Notes: (spoilers for my oc fics below)
I love the prompt being like "a picture's worth a thousand words," and then I just… explain the main theme with text.
I did try to also explain the theme through visuals too! The pictures/gifs try to focus on the idea of butterfly effect ripple that happens.
Artemisia mentors Brandy instead of Arachne which causes Artemisia to feel more empathy towards the Districts. (Also she tries at that and fails.)
Festus, well, I had a hard time coming up with what to put for Festus. His involvement in the story was very relationship based. He mediates between Felix and Artemisia and indirectly helping mediates between the Creeds and Diana (Ravinstill, my other oc). Focusing on the latter idea, I paired him with money, because Diana's whole beef with the Creeds in the main timeline is over her inheritance.
Felix gets paired with the Capitol to symbolize his complicated relationship with the his family and the city they (namely his great-uncle, built). Also being paired with "even if you don't succeed" because the Capitol/his family failing him in a way but in some ways, he feels he's failed them too. Felix and failure go hand-in-hand in my head (I had to bully him in the aesthetic too apparently)
Teapot and cup are meant to symbolize Diana Ravinstill (and her poisoning of Coin). Annie and Finnick at their wedding and Prim and Katniss being the gif in color is meant to work around having to find a faceclaim for Diana around 50-60 years old but also pull away from the Ravinstill-Creed family drama and the final murder of the fic. Instead, we focus on the good that their choosing to try be better does! (Finnick and Prim getting to live. I just used the wedding footage, because I have to work with what I have if giffing Felix and Festus in their Academy outfits didn't make that obvious.)
Overall, I did my best, but I'm unsure how I feel about it, need more distance from me making it to decide. (But I suppose according to this very thing, all that I can do is my best so... haha)

Wedding Traditions by District
District 12
Back home everything is so much simpler. A woman usually rents a white dress that’s been worn hundreds of times. The man wears something clean that’s not mining clothes. They fill out some forms at the Justice Building and are assigned a house. Family and friends gather for a meal or bit of cake, if it can be afforded. Even if it can’t, there’s always a traditional song we sing as the new couple crosses the threshold of their home. And we have our own little ceremony, where they make their first fire, toast a bit of bread, and share it. Maybe it’s old-fashioned, but no one really feels married in District 12 until after the toasting.
District 4
Dalton, the cattle guy from 10, conducts the ceremony, since it’s similar to the one used in his district. But there are unique touches of District 4. A net woven from long grass that covers the couple during their vows, the touching of each other’s lips with salt water, and the ancient wedding song, which likens marriage to a sea voyage.
