It's become a duology where the second one is L POV and they're simultaneously amazing and awful. They're not set in the same timeline, they're just companion fics.
The Light one has internalized arophobia, really good unreliable narration, and no quotation marks. Light's conflicted. The conflict is the Death Note's influence on him. It's an AU. There are no details to the AU. One of them is dead and I don't reveal until the end who. It doesn't make any sense - it's basically two timelines in one.
The L one uses every tense and POV (ok, not every, 3rd person is only used to describe Light), but it does have quotation marks. It's so out of character. He's hallucinating. It's fixated on one line from a song I'm fixated on. It's about religion. It's about unrequited love. It's about religion as unrequited love. It makes sense if you can read it but you can't read it due to the way it's written.
I don't like afterlife fics, even ghost fics, for Death Note, but they both kinda are.
Something interesting is that I commit way more to Light being Bad in L's POV. I can't write inside Light's head without feeling sympathetic for him and making him a little nicer (the fictional man has charmed me! I'm so gulliable! tbf he's kinda my Type in fictional characters - the whole unrequite-er part is pretty similar to a This Charming Man OC thing I wrote before), but in L's POV I can write positively about him but with the understanding with the reader L is brushing off his negative traits due to attraction. (L is way too pathetic, in both fics really but it only matters in his. At least his fic is about the idea of loosing yourself I used to be obsessed with. The ending's kinda a spiritual successor to the Ghostbur poem in that way. Like I said, it doesn't make any sense for him. It's just who I am.)
btw if you're wondering I still have Light Yagami on the brain. I had to idea last night to write a fanfiction in 1st/2nd person where he's "I" and L is "you". definitely Not Normal.
