Y/n peeked through the curtains, hands slightly clammy, heart beating at a faster rate than usual, eyes darting across the audience. They played with the old bracelet on their wrist, one that was gifted to them by the exact person the song they were about to sing was about. The crowd cheered for them, it was their first ever on-stage performance yet they were already rather popular in their area. The curtains opened and people started to quiet down, y/n had quickly gotten their act together and smiled at the audience, waving with a simple greeting. The crowd cheered for them, boosting their confidence the tiniest bit. After taking a deep breath, the melody started and the lights dimmed and focused on the star on the stage, highlighting their beauty.
Let's go back to the summer night
When we met eyes, it's like a movie line
  Kissin' underneath the city lights
But now you're laying in another girl’s arms
  'Cause I'm all gone
Y/n’s nerves calmed, focusing on the music and the breeze that surrounded them on the cool summer night. Memories of the past relationship had already started to fill the mind of the singer. Despite the rocky ending that the two had ended on, they still cherished the moments spent in their former lover’s presence.
But when you look in her eyes
  Do you think of mine?
And when you look at that smile
  Do I cross your mind?
  I know in your head
  You see me instead
'Cause she looks a lot like I did back then
  Baby don't lie
  She’s just a lookalike
Memories of silent declarations of love and kisses shared while enjoying maryjane popped up into y/n's brain. The way their hands felt like they were molded to fit together or how they could stare into their eyes as if the world was held in them. The clothing that y/n would steal off them always had this distinct forest smell with hints of mint in there. How they missed that smell.
  Can't redo what's already done
Can't compete 'cause I've already won
Sayin' this time, "It's really love"
But honey, you're not fooling anyone
  Don't you know we're done?
Y/n’s eyes opened back up, showing their eyes to the crowd. They smiled at the positivity of the audience, feeling better knowing that they weren’t being booed off the stage. They lightly swayed to the tune of their own song, the crowd even joining in. Y/n’s eyes scanned the crowd, seeing friends and family scattered around and smiling at the eye contact, but as their eyes landed on a certain someone, they almost froze, not knowing if it was from the shock or the wave of emotions that just crashed down on them.
But when you look in her eyes
  Do you think of mine?
And when you look at that smile
  Do I cross your mind?
  I know in your head
  You see me instead
'Cause she looks a lot like I did back then
  Baby don't lie
  She’s just a lookalike
In the crowd sat Ellie Williams. The girl that y/n l/n was still in fact in love with. The girl that inspired the lyrics that were coming out of their mouth. The girl that had left them in shambles. And sat next to her was Dina, the Dina that had stolen away their Ellie. Y/n’s eyes quickly darted away as they continued on with the song but they couldn’t help but to glance back at them.
And I'll admit that I sometimes, maybe, might
Think about you at night, well, almost every night
No matter how I try to hide
And erase you from my mind
  I'm dying
  To find a lookalike
As they sung those words, y/n’s eyes drifted back to Ellies. As if asking her to let them move on. Little did they know that Ellie had yet to move on either. Ellie was still smitten over the performer on the stage. She didn’t mean for the argument to happen, she wouldn’t have wanted this even in a million years. The two were unknowingly in love with each other and it was hurting the both of them.
Cause when you look in her eyes
  Hope you think of mine
And when you look at that smile
  Hope I cross your mind
  I hope in your head
  You see me instead
'Cause you've been in mine every day since then
Maybe it's time to find a lookalike
As the song neared its end, Y/n looked towards the audience with a soft, bittersweet smile. They straightened out their clothing and once more found their hand on the old bracelet that resided on their left wrist. That action unintentionally brought attention from its creator to the bracelet.
  No, I can't lie
  I need a lookalike
The lights darkened and silence was brought upon the crowd before the applause began. The area was lit backup and y/n bowed with a large smile on their face. After thanking the crowd they disappeared backstage to rest, being greeted with the scent of their favourite food and best friend, Abby, holding the origin of the scent. She smiled at them upon their arrival and set the food on a table to hug them.
“Figured you’d be hungry after that.” She let go of y/n and sat down, y/n joining them. They dug into the food and shared casual conversation and banter as friends do. Their meal was interrupted by the door opening to show the last person the two were expecting to see. There stood Ellie, who nervously rubbed her nose while standing at the door. The room went silent, Abby defensively grabbing y/n’s hand and y/n awkwardly chewing on the food she was eating before being interrupted.
“I was um,” Ellie looked at the way Abby was holding onto y/n and she almost walked out but decided to still try. “I was wondering if I could talk to you…” Looking Abby directly in the eye she quickly added. “Y/n, I want to talk to Y/n.” Abby tightened her grip on y/n’s hand but y/n nodded, agreeing to talk. Abby looked at them as if to ask if they were sure and in return they smiled at her and got up, taking Ellie to a more secluded area to talk. At first, it was silent, only the distant sound of people talking and enjoying their time in the background. Y/n was wondering if this was really worth it and looked towards the way they came from, contemplating if they should go back to the comfort of their food.
“Look if you don’t start talking I’m going to go back to Abby.” Y/n sighed with a frown. Ellie hesitated but continued, knowing that they weren’t going to waste their time in awkward silence.
“Was that song about me?” They looked shocked, a little embarrassed even and looked away.
“It may have been… inspired by you.” Silence took over once more, no one really knowing what to say despite the thousands of things they'd love to admit running through both of their minds. There were many times where Ellie specifically opened her mouth to say something but before she could, she found that she couldn't find the right words to use to express herself. But she knew she had to say something, anything, so she let herself out of the uncharacteristic bubble of nervousness and blurted out her thoughts.
“I’m sorry about how we ended, do you wanna try again?” She looked into y/n’s eyes with hopeful ones. “I know it was my fault, I know i fucked up and I’lladmit that but,” She grasped their hands with her rough ones. “I want to try that again, I’ll prove to you that I’m able to be a good girlfriend.” Y/n met Ellies gaze hesitantly, not really knowing what to say. They were ecstatic for starters but at the same time they didn’t know what to say about this. They decided to take their chances, knowing that it’s not everyday the ex girlfriend you’re still in love with asks to try again.
  “Okay, I wouldn’t mind that.”
“Let’s go to that restaurant you like. Saturday night, 6:30, don’t be late.” Excitement bubbled up in the both of them. Ellie walked away after they agreed and pumped her fist in accomplishment. Y/n walked back to Abby, squealing and jumping up and down as soon as they saw her. She explained everything to her, and Abby, despite not having the fondest idea of Ellie, was still extremely excited for her best friend. The night went amazingly for both Ellie and Y/n, the latter already fantasising about the night they'll spend together while Ellie thought of what gift to get for them.
In the end, Saturday night went great and ended with a blooming restart in love. The night was filled with flirtatious jokes and goofy pick up lines. The date ending with Ellie gifting y/n with a promise ring, as a way to tell them that she’ll do her best to never intentionally hurt her again.
