Went for a walk today and came back home to find ONE tick in my hair. I vigorously washed my hair and the tick fell out. I washed it down the drain. It came back. I washed it down again, and it came back. I washed it down a third time and kept the water running while I got ready for bed. I turned off the water thinking that was the end of the tick. Reading a Steam review for Hustle Cat and confused about what the phrase "toxic relationship ideals" means. You seem informed, so can you tell me?

1/ Are you sure this blog is the one you wanted to send this to and not my side one, Anon? Their topics are pretty different and your question definitely fits the /other/ one. But maybe tumblr F*’d up.

2/ I don’t pretend to be more informed than anyone else.  I’m older (sometimes it helps), my Google-fu is on point and I don’t shy away from researching topics of interest.

I admit the expression “toxic relationship ideals” confused me for a while too. I have an idea of what it means but I can’t really be sure and it could be misunderstood really easily.  Which is, I’m guessing, where you had an issue too. So, I needed the context. I looked for the exact review on the Steam store. For the sake of full information for everyone, I am quoting it below:

This is probably my favourite dating sim I’ve ever played at this point in my life.

Very high production values; the art is beautiful and well polished. The UI in particular has a very polished look to it while remaining simple, I like it a lot. The writing is lovely - not particularly deep and sometimes a little cheesy, but always relateable, interesting, and easy to go along with. The romances are all EXTREMELY cute and really lovely; there’s no toxic relationship ideals in this game, all the characters are well rounded and doing their best.  

Honestly? This is a game that will make you feel good. It’s really nice, all the characters are incredibly likeable, and it’s just… sweet and charming. Highly recommended. Like hugging a cat but in game form.

Ah, yes.  

My understanding of that line is that, according to this reviewer, none of the relationships in the game use or refer to some of the abusive aspects of relationships that are often portrayed positively  in media. The media (too often) portrays some abusive behaviors as an ideal everyone should strive for. The best examples coming to mind right now is Twilight or it’s “adult” version Fifty Shades of Grey in which extremely creepy, abusive and toxic behaviors (by the male characters) are depicted as romantic. Controlling the woman you love? Stalking her? Being violent towards her? Yeah, sure, you’re suddenly the ideal man. (/s)

So that’s how /I/ understand this line. But bear in mind, this is my own interpretation of it.
