This is why at comic con with phase 5 there isn't an X-Men movie...they will wait until the contract is up to screw over the actors. Does no one remember what happened to Scarlett Johansson??
The MCU/Disney will wipe their hands clean of the Foxverse and do their own thing with the X-Men and mutants. But um...Dadneto/Quickson/X-Men fandom um...has anyone thought of how mutants might fit in the MCUverse? No, really?
Do I have to go over the list of things that the MCU did badly? Pro-military propaganda, whitewashing, Jewish eraser, Shang-shi, Loki, and Mrs. Marvel. I could name more. But others have made entire metas.
It comes to a case of Theseus ship at what point do the X-Men and mutants are not anymore? Mutants are a metaphor for civil rights. There's also the more generational and older mutants that's important to the fabric of mutant like Charles and Erik to guide them.
The MCU worldbuilding wise...the MCU wants to pretend that prejudice doesn't exist, but at the same time it does in some movies. I don't trust the MCU with the X-Men, I just don't. The subtle nuances will be totally lost on them. The writers have a problem always ending their movie in a fight; that isn't what the X-Men are about, at the end of First Class the threat of Shaw and nuclear annihilation is not even the climax, the break up and fall out of Erik and Charles relationship is. Though they are assemble pieces, they are intensely character focused and it isn't until DOFP and Apocalypse that we as an audience do get the end of the world type stakes. Marvel has up until recently hasn't had a certain je ne sais quoi about dealing smaller stakes, but only in their miniseries. I can't name a marvel movie off of the top of my head that doesn't deal with the end of world or something super high stakes.
I give credit to the Foxverse, it holds no punches and tells you up front that discrimination in all its forms exist in that universe; doesn't fuck around with it.
Now all of the sudden people notice that mutants exist when the MCU gave no hint at; Not to say that there haven't been cases like this in the world: theses people have always been there and now people are noticing them as internal enemies and paranoia breaks out. I still do not think Marvel/Disney are capable of understanding that; they don't have the vocabulary.
With aliens, magic, and advanced tech people taking it all in stride...what's the big deal about mutants?
If they go with oh there's an explosion or plot radiation that caused mutations to happen. Congrats Marvel you made the Inhumans instead of mutants!
I believe that the X-Men their assorted issues and drama they do not need to interact with the avengers or any big name superheroes. They've got enough going on already.
I'm just waiting to see just how much the MCU/Disney fucks up the X-Men and Mutants.
(Found this tweet thanks to another post by @imposterogers )
“Or enter production on a film that includes roles held by some recent principle actors in the Fox franchise”
Maybe I’m totally off here, but my (wishful) understanding of this is that if any xmen actors showed up in the MCU, they would contractually have to be playing their xmen characters—unless it’s past 2025 and the contract is no longer valid, in which recasting/rebooting is allowed.
Under that logic....what’s up with the whole Ralph thing in wandavision?
