Steve wins the bat plush at a fair when he's seven. He doesn't care about bats, but it's the prize for making all five baskets in the basketball game, so he gets the little bat. Its eyes are a little crooked and one wing is slightly smaller than the other, but it being lopsided sort of makes it cuter.
He and his dad, they're supposed to be going on rides now, but his dad's pager keeps going off. He puts Steve next to a funnel cake stand, tells him not to move, and goes in search of a pay phone. Fifteen minutes pass, and Steve is bored under the flashing lights and tinkling music. He wants to play not sit and wait.
Eventually, he drifts back towards the midway, watches the people rushing by, searches for a sign of his dad's return. His attention is caught by another boy at the basketball booth. He has to be about Steve's age, with a mop of dark curls on top of his head and a jean jacket that's slightly too big, sleeves flopping over his hands as he lines up his shots.
This boy, he's terrible at basketball. Every shot is too high or too short or goes wide, but he's trying. Even from this distance, Steve can see how hard he's trying. He uses up his five balls, fishes into his jacket pocket for more money, and gets five more.
He misses every shot. This time, when he goes back for more money, he comes up empty. Steve thinks he sees his lip shaking.
A man, one in a leather jacket and boots that Steve thinks look mean, comes up to the boy, drops a heavy hand on his shoulder. He's too far away to hear the conversation, assumes the boy asks to play again and the man's response is a shaken head and a tight smile. They walk away from the games, right towards Steve, who slinks back to the side of the midway, not wanting to be caught staring.
"What was it you wanted? That stupid bat? Just another piece of trash you wanna bring in my house." Steve hears as they pass.
The boy nods, but keeps his eyes down and to the side.
He feels bad then. Felt bad before, but now he looks at his own bat, at its funny eyes and poorly attached wings, and wishes he could hand it over to the boy who really wants it. Steve almost does, then, makes to go after them, but his dad appears, dropping a hand to Steve's shoulder and saying, "ready to hit those rides?" And he knows the opportunity is gone, knows his dad will say it's too soft, not what men do.
Steve manages to lose himself for a while in the swirling lights and funhouse music and carnival rides, forget about the little bat in his back pocket and the boy who wanted one so desperately. But then his dad's pager goes off some more, he goes back to the pay phone, and Steve ducks into the low brick building that houses the bathrooms.
His eyes immediately land on the same boy from the basketball game. His eyes are red, face damp, obviously from tears, and Steve just--
"Here." He shoves the bat into the boy's chest.
For a second, the brownest eyes Steve's ever seen widen at him, before narrowing in a harsh glare, the boy's teeth barred.
"Why?" He snarls.
Steve thinks he may regret every choice that led him to this but he says, he says, "Because I want you to have it."
The boy blinks a few times, hand reaching out to gently pinch the bat's smallest wing. "You sure?"
Steve nods and the bat is slowly withdrawn from his grasp.
"No takesies-backsies?"
"It's yours."
The boy looks at the bat in awe, and Steve says, "see? It already looks happier with you."
The boy's beaming smile is cut-off by a voice calling from the door, "you in there,? I ain't got time to be waiting for your boohooing."
"Coming!" The boy carefully tucks the bat into an inner pocket of his jacket. "Thank you," he whispers, eyes big and glistening and happy, before he disappears out the door.
---
13 years later, give or take a few months, and Steve stands in the cracked shell of a bisected trailer, rummaging through what remains of a life well-lived, searching for anything whole. He's already found a few undamaged mugs and clean hats, but this room--it took a lot of damage. The brunt of it, really. Some sick sort of joke, after everything.
It's mostly rubble in here, scraps of fabric; slivers of notebook paper, magazine, poster; crumbled shards of vinyl and cassette plastic. A few times he comes across the disembodied limb of one of those dnd figures, and something weird happens to his throat.
In the far corner there's half of a dresser collapsed into itself, and he shuffles through the debris to see what he can find. There's something, soft and black, just the edge of it, peaking out from under half of a drawer face. He pulls it out, careful as can be and it's--it's a plush bat. It's a little dirty, but unharmed, though its eyes are a little wonky, and one wing is smaller than the other.
He holds it and he stares and he has to brace himself against the wall. It can't be--it's not the same one--but he remembers those big brown eyes and the curls and--
"Harrington," a warm, rich voice calls from what's left of the hallway. "You get lost in there?"
Eddie shuffles in, slow, careful with his crutches. And it--it took so long, months and months of convalesce and physical therapy, still physical therapy, but he's here. He's alive. He's perfect. And the something blooming between them, it's not spoken yet, but it's there, growing, and now, now--
"Oh my god, you found Lilith! I thought she was toast."
"Lilith?" He's still cradling the little lopsided bat in his hands, but moves closer to hand it over to Eddie.
"Yes, Lilith." Eddie takes the bat, presses it to his chest. "The first boy I ever loved gave her to me."
His heart turns over in his chest and when he swallows his throat clicks. Eddie doesn't notice, he's smiling softly at the bat, at Lilith, but then, "why are you looking at me like that?"
"First boy you ever loved?" He says. He thinks he sounds normal.
Somehow, Eddie's smile grows even softer. "Yeah. Roan County Fair, years ago. Tried to win her, but--" he clicks his tongue--"never had great hand-eye coordination. And then this kid just gave her to me out of nowhere. I used to think I was going to marry him."
"And now?"
Eddie laughs. "I grew up, Steve."
And for a second, he doesn't know what to say, but then, "I was right then, huh? That she'd be happier with you."
He stares at Steve, those same big brown eyes, wide and glistening. "Steve that was--Steve?" Eddie presses a hand over his mouth, overcome, before launching himself into Steve's arms. The crutches clatter to the floor, but Steve has him, will always have him, no matter what.
"I can't believe you kept her," Steve whispers.
"God, I carry her everywhere. She's Corroded Coffin's mascot, and you--Steve, I can't believe that was you."
"Surprise," he bumps Eddie's forehead with his.
They hold each other in the center of the destruction, but none of that matters right now, not when it feels like every moment since they very first met as children was leading them to this.
From the other half of the trailer, they hear footsteps, chattering, Wayne and Robin and Dustin, but Steve wants this to last a little longer.
"So, marriage...that still off the table?"
Eddie laughs softly, nuzzles his face against Steve's neck. "Are you kidding, sweetheart? No way I'm letting you go."

Happy storyteller Saturday (glad we’re bringing this back)! Your characters go to the county fair! What do they eat? What rides do they go on? Who gets so into petting goats they forget to even look at rides? Who wins a questionable number of clearly rigged games? Who gets their face painted? Who overhauls their entire aesthetic based on booths of scarves and accessories? Who finds something hyperspecific to learn about while the others tap their feet impatiently? Etc.
(that last one is based on me going to the county fair and becoming so engrossed in a local history lecture at the museum exhibit I did not even go check out the rides)
Happy STS Moshke! What a fun question!
I feel like the Twins are big fans of the rides and food trucks, they take turns waiting in the lines and babysitting their other siblings, switching whenever they're bored of one task and feel like tagging in for the other. Like Marco loves spinny rides but hates waiting in line for them, Matteo isn't a fan of the spinning but doesn't mind the wait, so they switch when he gets to the front of the line. Meanwhile, Marco gets funnel cake as a favor so when Matteo switches out, Marco can go in his ride, and Matteo can have a treat! They've really hacked the system.
Tess is Extremely Intimidated by all the hubbub and Hannah hates crowds with a visceral passion, so the two of them gladly hang out at the petting zoo.
Quercu would win all the rigged carnival games. She's been sneaking into human fairs for 200 years and she knows all the tricks. She won't keep the prizes though and passes them off to the kids in line who don't have her kind of faerie luck.
Cecelia gets her face painted so that nobody questions when she uses her glamours, just a tiny bit. It looks a little too hyperrealistic, but no adults are looking that closely.
Lady Brigid would enjoy seeing the crafters, though I don't know if she'd completely overhaul her aesthetic (she is supposed to be based on a nun) but she would like to support the arts, so she'd buy a few pieces as gifts for the girls! I also imagine Mrs. Tegan might run a stand like this. In my imagination, she has a large craft room and runs a fairly successful small business out of her home. Cecelia might help her stock inventory and run the table.
If Hannah ever left the petting zoo, she'd get lost at the farm show exhibit with all the heirloom varieties of vegetables and apples, and the panels on local agriculture. She's a huge plant nerd and learning how to yield a successful harvest would interest her. Her dad would find her talking the ear off a gaggle of old-timers and she'd leave with an internship or something sldjsflkjds.
Thanks for the ask!
#ask answered#etta rambles#writeblr#writeblr community#runaways#I used to go to the biglersville apple harvest festival county fair in central PA growing up every year#it was HUGE absolutely my favorite event of the fall#I live too far to go there anymore but it was so fun#adams county has so so so many apple orchards and the whole faire was just dedicated to apple themed everything#it was great#my siblings and I would be stuffed by the end of the day

a/n: this is going to be heavily based on my little fantasies since I went recently, thank you for the request <33

Upon your arrival, Ellie would definitely drag you onto rides. It was nice for her when you easily agreed, but when you didn't, she'd be begging you and trying to find incentives to convince you. Ellie found joy in the freeing way rides made her feel, almost like she was flying. The joy on her face was enough to get on most rides with her.
"I'm not too sure about this one, Els." You'd say looking at the ride and back at her.
"Babe. 'ts not even that bad, you just spin a little in the air." She'd be holding your hand trying to get you excited for it too.
"Only in the air, huh? so convincing." You'd give her one of your sarcastic stares.
"C'mon, I'll even buy you one of those albums with the fancy photocards you collect." You could tell Ellie was getting desperate with the glint in her eyes.
"Whichever I want?" You grew curious on how far Ellie would promise. "Mhm, whichever." Ellie said quickly. "Deal." Ellie dragged you in line, talking about how this specific ride reminded her of a moment in one of her comics. You wouldn't make Ellie buy the album, but you loved her dedication.
Ellie knew how much you liked stuffed animals. She noted the very large collection you had kept on your bed, which led you to beg her to allow you to put some on your shared bed. Once Ellie saw you looking at this specific one, while walking around in the carnival, she knew you wanted it.
While you took another glance, you heard Ellie's voice. "Want it?" She stopped walking, which made you turn back at her.
You hummed, giving it thought and sighed. "No, these games are impossible." You really didn't want to waste all your money on a game that no one has won.
" 's alright, we can try." You looked at Ellie with hope as you walked hand in hand to the stand. You held her arm as you walked, feeling pleased Ellie would try for you. "I love you, Els." you said dramatically. She smirked at you in reply.
Ellie pulled out a 20 to buy a bucket of balls to throw at the glass bottles. "Look, it's not entirely impossible, babe." She said as she picked up a ball.
When Ellie missed horribly at her first shot, you glanced at her at the same time she glanced at you; you both burst out in laughter at the eye contact. "Here, let me try, Els." You took the ball with confidence just to fail worse than her.
"Okay." You dragged the O. "Maybe you can do the rest, I'll be here for support." You rubbed Ellie's arm to back up your words.
You could see the way Ellie's arm tensed when she threw the ball, such imperfect timing for these thoughts, but she was hot. Stuffed animal or not, you enjoyed the show.
Ellie hit the 5th bottle, which was enough for the stuffed animal. "You're amazing at that, my love." You giggled, checking out your new stuffed animal. "I love you too, babe."
Ellie would probably be the type to say she isn't interested in carnival food, but steals bites of your food. You knew when she wanted some because her eyes did all the work. She'd raise her eyebrows and couldn't maintain eye contact with you since she would keep glancing at the food.
"Oh, Els!" You'd tug her arm and point to a concession stand. "Look, they're selling funnel cakes and cheese fries." Ellie would nod, "Mm, ya'want something?" You'd simply hum in agreement and be on your way.
You ended up buying an agua fresca to go with the food. While you found a place to sit and start eating, Ellie would deny her want first. "Want some?" You'd wave a piece of funnel cake her way. " 'm not hungry." She'd reject nicely. You shrugged your shoulders and continued to eat over conversation.
"I'll need some time before going on rides again, my stomach is definitely not prepared." You looked up from sipping your drink, to meet Ellie looking at you intently. "Here, try some babe." You'd push the drink her way. She didn't want to say no again (and secretly wanted some) so she agreed. "That's actually really good."
You didn't know if Ellie noticed, but you'd always only eat half just to say your full, so she would try some too. "Els, you want the rest of this? don't think I'll finish it." You'd give her a little grin. Being the hundredth time you've offered her food, she'd agree in a joking tone. "Well, if you insist, babe."
You'd definitely be taking secret photos of her when she isn't looking for social media. She never posted much, so any photo of her was a joy for you. She'd give you one of her awkward smiles when she"d catch you but was too sweet to you to tell you to stop, as it didn't bother her that much.
The neon lights illuminating on Ellie's face from the ferris wheel made her look so sweet, you couldn't help but want some photos. As you took a few photos, Ellie looked to you and gasped. "Mmm what're you doing, babe?" You'd grin at her, "Noothing."
She smiled at you, making you smile back even harder. She made you feel like a lovesick teen. "Now that you obviously know, can we please take some together?" She'd fake think, making you wait. "C'mooon, Els." You'd tug at her arm. "We can be like those pinterest lesbians."
Ellie would obviously agree, but when didn't she? Anything you wanted, she did her best to provide. The time at the carnival was just a big day to be lovesick with each other in admiration. Both of you ended the day tired, but in each other's arms, with your new stuffed animal.

Mikey couldn't help but laugh at her question. "Heck no this isn't a place that street gangs typically go to.. But you never know." A lot of the local gangs were comprised of teens after all, and despite not wanting to be seen as childish, he couldn't deny that theme parks were fun for all. A few might come here off duty to have fun with friends or family. "I doubt they'll come to have a war in a place this crowded though. All it would lead to is them getting instantly arrested." The Toman leader wasn't the most cunning individual, but he was smart enough to keep himself out of trouble when it mattered. He cared a lot about Toman's image after all, and he would never put it in danger.
A pang of guilt hit him squarely in the chest at her flippant comment, as he rotated the headband in the mirror. "I wouldn't do that." He knew Sonia had meant it as a joke, but the words stung more than she could know. "I don't hit women... At least.. I never intended to. It's one of the codes I live by, and yet I lost myself back there." He straightened, Black hues meeting blue. "I won't do that again. Even if I am the Big Bad wolf." The blonde tried to laugh it off. He wouldn't lose to the darkness again like that, he silently vowed to himself.
He took in the sights as they walked towards Space Mountain. There was a rainbow ship with Mickey and Minnie Mouse standing upon the helm, as well as a large statue of Cinderella. Manjiro was surprised that the girl was seemingly more interested in his family. His expression softened at the innocent inquiry, and his gaze seemed a bit hollow. "I have a sister, Emma. You remind me a bit of her." He hesitated for a moment. "I had an older brother too, named Shinichiro. The last time I came here was with him. He died though." It felt like he never got used to telling someone new that his brother had already passed. He didn't think it would ever get easier. "Siblings.. yeah they're great. Cousins are good to have, but it sucks that you're an only child. Must get really lonely. Especially in a mafia family. I doubt your parents are warm." He didn't say it unkindly. Even though he'd lost his older brother, he was still grateful he'd had him. He had many fond memories with him, just like when he'd taken him to this theme park.
"Ah, what did you find?" He asked, but she'd already run off. He smiled softly, and headed to the queue, in order to save a spot for her. It felt like yesterday that he'd been here with Shinichiro, as he retraced his steps to the back of the line, funnel cake in hand. His older brother had bought them both one, knowing that Mikey didn't like to share, even though he also knew he wouldn't actually be able to finish the whole thing. He ate until he got a stomachache, and he finally shoved the rest into the garbage. The roller coaster afterwards had been.. an experience after that, one that kept Mikey clamping his mouth shut, lest he vomit on the people below. He'd learned his lesson after that. Although he was a lot older now, and he probably could finish the cake and be alright, he would much prefer to share it.
He smiled wistfully as he thought of the fond memory, but Sonia soon pulled him out of his nostalgia with the mochi she had in tow. "Good choice! Thanks." His one lament was that the sticks weren't flags, but at least they were alien shaped, so he supposed he could let it go. Mikey was certainly not as excited to stand in line as she was, but the sweets distracted him, as well as the extravagant decorations in the tunnel the line went through. He popped a vanilla mochi into his mouth, chewing the rice paste until the flavorful custard burst out. On the wall, there was a spacecraft flying in a video, and a glowing constellation system on the other separator.
"Sure." Luckily they had given him two forks, and he gave her one. He held up the plate, making sure he got the side with his flag on it. Taking his fork in hand, he cut off a large bite of the fried dough, making sure there was ample whipped cream and a hunk of strawberry included. He took a bite, trying to not to look too excited, as he chewed. "Everything is so good!" He took a few more bites of funnel cake, and then popped the strawberry mochi in his mouth. He still made sure to follow the line as it moved, and they went through new rooms. One room had alien figures, which was strangely fitting with their mochi balls.
By the time they'd finished eating, he was happy to find that they were in the final room before the ride. He shoved the garbage into a trashcan near the coaster itself. "Guess the line wasn't so bad after all." The coaster took off, and moments later, and the riders began to scream. "You've never been on one before. Are you nervous?" He asked, as they moved towards the slots that would designate which cars to go in. "Which car do you want to go in? I've heard the front and back are the most scary."
"Do street gangs visit amusement parks?" Sonia asked, voicing the question Mikey had only dared to think. "Yourself aside, I mean for reasons other than to enjoy an amusement park for what it is. I am not sure that declaring a turf war on an amusement park offers much gain, and considering the amount of hidden cameras watching our every move, any plan would have to be subtle." And from what she knew, street gangs were anything but. It was a common problem in the gang-to-yakuza pipeline that she'd heard Fuyuhiko mention: young, brash, men who had just left school behind and were seemingly the perfect candidates for foot soldier positions in organized crime, but acted too quickly. Too hot under the collar with no idea of how to be patient or discreet, often causing more problems for a crime family than help. It was important, in her opinion, to carefully screen anyone who wished to join: loyalty wasn't enough. The ability to understand and take orders was equally important, and a sense of cunning and negotiation often helped rather than hurt.
That negotiation, Sonia knew, would be what got animal ears on Mikey's head. The fact that neither of them had been recognized was also likely to blame for her new friend adjusting his wolf ears to suit him. "Then you will punch me too, if I laugh?" She asked, grinning at his lopsided ears as they left the shop. Considering what she'd witnessed at the hostess bar, she doubted he had any scruples when it came to physical assault against women whom he believed to deserve it. But she had no interest in using the image of The Invincible Mikey in animal ears as some sort of leverage or blackmail against Toman, the way street gangs might. If there was someone clever in charge: for all of his good points, Mondo Owada of the Crazy Diamonds and her general touchstone on street gang behavior, was not a particularly clever person. She'd ask Mikey about them at some point, if they'd ever crossed paths.
In the meantime though, it wasn't terribly important: the retro-futuristic styling of the attractions, shops, and eateries were, alongside the various sounds and scents piped in to add to the atmosphere. Sonia chuckled: even the vending machines looked like something out of the space age vintage cartoons she'd seen as a child. Nothing like the 21st Century in reality, but fun to imagine nevertheless.
"You have siblings, then?" She asked in interest. Out of the fake spinning saucers and the animatronic alien that sang in the nearby burger restaurant, Sonia was far more intrigued about his family dynamic. "That sounds nice. I have cousins, but none of my own. It is why The Family shall be left to me one day, but I would much rather have had siblings instead."
The queue didn't dissuade her too much, if just for the fact that Sonia hardly ever had a reason or chance to stand in one. Doors opened and people stepped aside when she walked by, out of loyalty, or fear, or a mix of both. But passing the time with sweet treats seemed far more preferable, and she smiled at Mikey's excitement for the funnel cake and resulting flag atop it. "I have never seen cake like this before!" She exclaimed, though the treat looked big enough to share. Enough to give her pause as she looked to one of the other nearby stalls, her eyes lighting up at the offerings. "I think I have found something good, please allow me a moment."
One crisp yen bill later, Sonia returned to where Mikey had held their places in line, a plastic cup in each hand filled with three small mochi made to resemble three-eyed cartoon alien heads, a small toothpick included. "Look, they are cute and resemble the characters in the film!" She grinned, handing one cup to Mikey. "They are filled with chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla custard apparently. Now we can share both treats as we wait in space." An accurate assessment: they'd just ascended a motorised walkway, taking them up and into the darkened ride building, illuminated with various neon and black lights to simulate space. "I like this already," Sonia declared with a smile, popping the strawberry custard-filled mochi from her cup into her mouth. "Sugary snacks and a decades-old interpretation of life in space. May I have a taste of your funnel cake, then?"

Caramel Popcorn:
Gooliope is one of my favorite Monster High characters, and Sweet Screams is one of my favorite lines. So it should come as no surprise that when a collab group opened up for redesigning the MH characters to fit your style, I was excited to partake! This is my first time working with a 17 inch doll, and it posed an interesting challenge! I gotta say, I loved working on a bigger face! I have another Gooliope, Draculaura, and Maddie Hatter of this size in my stock, to hopefully one day we'll do a project this large again. The trick is, it's gotta be a doll I'll want to have out all the time, since they're hard to store. So far this is the case for this one, she's so pretty, I don't see myself storing her too often. XD
My vision for this project was to deck her out in carnival sweet treats. Gooliope is a circus ghoul after all, so it stands to reason that those would be up her alley. I went with pink and blue on her hair and the ribbon details to represent cotton candy, there are buttons made of polymer clay that look like lollipops, and while it's hard to see, her heels are candy apples. She's decked out with a bunch of fabric paint to hold on the sprinkles and look like dripping icing, and then you have my favorite detail, the headband. You can't have a carnival without funnel cake, and adding a little chocolate ripple to it? And sprinkles? Oh man, -chef's kiss- perfection. The sprinkles were honestly a highlight for me. I normally don't use pieces from other crafters in my work, but when I wanted to add caramel corn to her apron (my other favorite piece next to the face), I figured hey, why not? Also, it's hard to see, but I added a bit of a color shifting glaze on her eyes before glossing them, and it's super pretty in person. Gosh, it is hard not to stare at her, I love her SO MUCH.

As soon as they’ve passed through the entrance, the scent of sugary, deep fried, fair food surrounds them. But they keep walking, past the food stands and commercial booths lining the gravel road into the heart of the fairground. They’ll get food later. Right now, Izumi and Kya have a different focus: the rides.

Cut to different idiot demon boys wrecking everything up either on purpose because they want MC on their booth still or because, look, they’re all idiots your honor. So!! MC IS LIKE “I don’t….have anything. The event is tonight and I don’t have anything!!” LUKE AND MC PANIC TOGETHER TRYING TO THINK
AND SIMEON. OF ALL PEOPLE. “Kissing booths are popular? Right?”
Cut to HOL boys being like “hell yeah kissing booth with the MC😎” but then they see the line of MC’s fan club and their like “😡😡😡 This kissing booth is against the rules!!”
Also! No kissing booth if someone is uncomfortable! Hugging booth instead! Or!!! If physical contact sucks!! Lucy with her therapist stand but MC instead. Or!!! FOR ANYONE JUST DONE WITH ANY LEVEL OF CONTACT, people can pick up handmade “fortunes” that MC slapped together.
Mostly I want MC being like “we don’t take Grim here, five non cursed rocks gets you a peck on the cheek but a particularly nice compliment gets you some flirting to go along with it”
asdfaj;klja;sdj YES MC KISSING BOOTH SHENANIGANS 💛
MC arbitrarily deciding what the 'cost' of the booth is considering they're not using Grimm, but leveraging it against the brothers.
For Levi its "say three nice things about yourself that you believe." For Beel its the last bite of his funnel cake, and for Lucifer its to apologize to his brothers for being an 'invulnerable' hardass.
MC working out they can just apply this concept (a kiss/hug for x) in their everyday life and baking Simeon a giant cake as a thank you.
#ro#obey me#the CHAOS this would cause#luke would get the BIGGEST cuddle and kiss on the cheek if he asked#free of charge#i talk to a real human

i think you could write a great jabitha fic in which they go to the fair together (or a theme park your choice :))
thank you :) I hope this is what you had in mind
-
The last time a carnival had come to Riverdale, Betty's dad was chaperoning the pre-teen trio of Betty, Archie, and Jughead as they raced into the lines of rides they were finally tall enough for. Ever since Jason's death, and the subsequent events that followed, the grounds behind the local mall remained empty, a haunted husk of ferris wheels and funnel cakes. Jughead remembers going there with Archie at the very end of senior year, sitting together where the caricature booth used to be, neither of them acknowledging the upcoming burden of graduation (or the lack there of).
But things have changed in Riverdale again, this time for the better, and every street corner is covered with signs advertising the carnival's return.
Pop's has been offered a small plot to celebrate the fair's arrival, and the truck is parked opposite the caricature stand.
Business is slower than Tabitha had originally anticipated, due in part to the dark clouds looking overhead. The rain hasn't started yet, but every news station says that it should be soon, so most of the town has preemptively taken refuge.
There's still a few people taking their chance with the weather though. Betty and Veronica already stopped by for a black coffee and a vanilla latte respectively, their arms linked together as they took their drinks. In the distance Jughead can also see the vague shape of Reggie, who's spent most of his afternoon trying to beat a ring toss game.
"You know, I've never actually been to a carnival." Tabitha says from where she's sitting on the counter beside the sink.
"Really?"
"There weren't any in the part of Chicago I'm from, and my dad wouldn't have wanted to travel far enough to find one." she slides off the counter and onto her feet. "But I thought now would be as good a time as ever to check one out."
She offers her hand out to Jughead. "You coming?"
Jughead laces his fingers together with hers and it's only a matter of seconds before he's being pulled out of the door.
There's a gentle breeze slicing through the thick summer humidity, granting them some much needed relief from weeks of thunderstorms and heatwaves. And the overcast sky means it's just dark enough for the carnival's lights to flicker to life, illuminating the space around them with bright pinks and blues.
Tabitha gives Jughead's hand a small squeeze.
"C'mon, I wanna kick Reggie's ass at that game he won't stop playing."
Jughead laughs. "Are you gonna win me a stuffed animal?"
"In your dreams. If it's my good aim that's winning, then it's my prize to keep."
She doesn't end up winning until her third try (and Reggie finally wins mere seconds after Tabitha does, but whether it's because the employee pitied him or not is up for debate), and she picks a large stuffed bear dressed in suspenders and a bowtie from the prize counter before handing it off to Jughead.
"I thought you wanted to keep the bear for yourself?"
"Changed my mind. You looked like you needed a friend." She kisses his cheek as she steps in front of him, grabbing his hand and pulling him towards the ferris wheel.
The rain begins just as they're reaching the top of the ride. It's a nice break from the muggy heat of the summer, and it's light enough that neither of them have to change when they make their way back to the food truck.
Tabitha collapses into the closest chair as soon as she shuts the door behind her, closing her eyes and undoing her ponytail.
"Tired?" Jughead asks, a teasing tone in his voice as he takes a seat beside her.
She slowly reopens her eyes and takes the bear from him, pressing it against her chest as she sinks deeper into the cushions.
"A little. If the rain clears up, I still think we should get funnel cake, though. I know I'm not too tired for that."
#i wasnt sure where to end this but i didnt wanna make it too long bc its an ask fic n not a fic fic#if u like if tho maybe ill expans it n post it to ao3 :)#its been a while since ive done fluff tho so i hope its what u wanted#jabitha#mine#asks

Silly Crush | POSSIBLE CHAPTER SERIES
Stu Macher x F!Reader
Scream FanFic
TW: Fluff, mild language, heated make-out session
Forgive my writing. It’s been a while.
GIF created by @2026
Late summer of 1996, just before school starts back up again. The summer fair had come to town, this year it decided to not skip town, the weather was perfect for it! Being the loner you usually steered clear of these things, but you had befriended Tatum and Sidney. It was nice to have friends that you could talk to, to trust, plus the added perks of Stu's flirtatious nature, though you could never bear to tell him that you had a crush on him, you'd be risking your friendship and likely look foolish, there was no way you thought that Stu would be into someone like you... I mean, after all, he was Stu Macher, he and Billy were kind of known around Woodsboro High.
Slipping into your favorite pair of black overalls, one strap off, and slipping on a black crop top and a pair of black LEI black platforms a touch of makeup, and braided your hair into long pigtails, and headed out. Tatum loved your outfit. "We'll meet the guys there, Stu had to do something." Tatum chirped while you hopped into her red Volkswagen bug and takes off down the road. "What did have to do?" You casually ask. "Something with Billy, said they'd show up after, some project they're working on." Sidney chimed in. "Yeah something stupid important." Tatum mocked. With a chuckle, you shake your head and watch out the window.
Getting out of the car after she parked it you three look around and decide to head to the benches waiting for the two boys to arrive. Tatum played with her gum and Sidney reading a book, you sat there, people watching, three unlikely friends, but so far so good, this was going to be good for you, real good, so you hoped, minus the odd guilt of crushing on Tatum's man. Letting out a soft breath, Stu and Billy approach from behind startling their better halves. Stu looks at you and gives you a sweet smile. "Hey Y/N. Glad you made it." It could be he was being nice, but the feeling behind his words was something more. You give a kind smile back and flush slightly. "Me too." Clearing your throat and with a side stare from Tatum and a smile from Sidney the girls hop up and look around.
Without any hesitation Tatum looks a Stu, "It's time for that big blue dog you promised me!" She grinned taking his hand and dragging him away. Sidney looked at Billy, "Ferris Wheel?" with a shrug and a nod. "Sure." Sidney looks at you. "You can come if you'd like." You shake your head and give a smile. "Nah, I'll be good, I'll be here. It's just nice to get out of the house." Sidney nods and pats your shoulder before she and Billy take off to the wheel while you sat there, alone, like always. "I knew this was a bad idea." you tell yourself before letting out a sigh and slump on the bench picking at your glitter nail polish and staring at the ground a bit.
After a few hours had passed Tatum started to feel sick, of course, that's what happens when one inhales two cotton candies and a thing of funnel cake and a corn dog and a diet soda. She looks at you. "Hey, I'm going to head home, thanks for coming with us, Stu is going to take you home if that's alright?" You look at her "Yeah, that's fine. Feel better." You tell her. "Billy, Sidney you ready?" she askes them almost feeling ignored you look down at the ground, your jaw clenches, Sidney touches your shoulder again and the three of them take off. Stu sits next to you and looks ahead of himself. "You know, she doesn't mean to be a bitch all the time." You look up and over at him and arch a brow. "She's not a bitch, just, set in her ways." With a chuckle, he shakes his head. "No need to be polite. She brought you here and ditched you. Personally Bitch move." He stated
Shaking your head you know how people like that can be, you slump a bit more. "Nothing like being a third wheel." you chuckle. "It's alright though, it was nice to get out of the house." you state with a soft voice and maybe some optimism. Looking at you he smiled. "How about I make up for it?" You quickly shake your head and smile. "You don't have to, there's nothing to make up for." Shaking his head again. "I don't think you understand. Let me make it up to you. I don't think I'm giving you much of a choice." Clearing your throat you look down and pick at your nails again and nod your head. "Okay Stu."
Standing up he takes your hand and your whole body gets warm, flushed, and nervous as he takes you to win you that blue dog he botched trying to get for Tatum. "Until I win the big blue one Merve." He tells the man behind the counter. "Anything for you Stu." He chuckles and hands him some baseballs. You watch as he looks at you. "I'm bad at this." He laughs throwing a few, "Not too bad." you reassure him. After a good five minutes, he wins you the large blue dog, smiling you bite your lip taking the dog. "Thank you," you tell the man and then at Stu. "And thank you. I have the perfect spot for him in my room." You beam a smile nuzzling into the dog a bit.
"Next stop!" He takes your hand and takes you to get something to eat. You blush a bit as he took it upon himself to order for you. Taking a seat a the picnic benches Stu looks at you and looks around. "There are a few more stops before we hit the big ending." He nodded to the Ferris wheel. Biting your lip and taking a bite of your burger you look at him and back at the end of the strip and let out a shaky breath. Nerves are going to get the better of you, you know this and grip the large paw of the dog and look at Stu. "Thank you, for all of this so far." He laughed. "Don't thank me until the end." He tells you.
Finishing food he takes you to the water guns, the ball toss and ends up winning you a goldfish, the thunderbolt, and last but not least, you two are standing in line for the Ferris Wheel, your stomach is turning, nerves, the Ferris wheel was a special ride. "We don't have to do this." You tell him. "Nonsense, we're going." He laughs taking your hand and getting into a cart and closes the door. Placing the dog and the bag with the goldfish on the bench across the way Stu decides to sit next to you with his arm around your shoulders, pulling you close. Taking in his cheap cologne your eyes close, feeling this odd sense of safety.
The ride takes off and you jump a little and he pulls you closer. "Heights make me uneasy." you tell him, looking down at you. "I'll protect you." He tells you with a cheeky grin and looks around. "Thank you for tonight, I'm glad I came." She smiled. "I'm glad you came too." A few times around the wheel stops, Looking around Stu chuckles. "Uhhh, bad news, we're going to be stuck here for a bit." Your eyes grow wide and you get closer to him and bite your lip harder. Stu holds you petting your head a bet and you look up. "Well I guess, we should talk... I need to distract myself. I'm a horrible friend Stu." You tell him.
With an arched brow, he looks at you, "How so?" you fidget and he looks at you, waiting for you to speak. "I've uhh, I've got this thing for someone, and this someone has someone, and this someone's someone had befriended me this summer and I feel like a bad friend for liking this someone." You state, "Vague... I'm sure Sidney would understand, everyone's got a thing for Billy." He moves away a little bit. Shaking your head you look up at him. "No Stu, I like you, and Tatum would have a cow if she found out." Stu looks at you. "You like me?" He asks you, nodding your head he chuckles and smiles. "I like you." He tells you.
With a nervous laugh, you lean into him and bite on your lip. He looks down at you, and tilts your head up, and presses his lips to yours, his hand resting on the side of your neck as you grip his shirt and press into the kiss a bit more. His tongue dances with yours as the kiss becomes a bit more heated, his hand moves from your neck to your breast gripping it in his hand as the other pulls you closer. He pulls you on top of him and you look over his face, moving your hips a bit and he lets off a soft groan, pulling you closer back into a kiss as his hands rest on your butt pulling you even closer, any closer and you'd melt into him. His hand slips under your shirt playing with the perky bit of flesh and the suppleness of your breast while your fingers play with his hairline.
Tongues dancing together he lifts his hips up into yours. Looking over his face. "We shouldn't do this here, not here, and it's too quick, and I... Stu..." Stu looks at you. "Yeah Y/N?" He askes with a smile. "Do you love Tatum?" You ask him. "I wouldn't call it love, she's annoying, needy, and overly clingy... I offered to take you home, I wanted to tell you I liked you, and was hoping that maybe you'd be my girl." He looked over your face. Hugging him you nuzzle into his neck. "Yes, absolutely. Tatum is going to shit." You chuckle shaking your head. "She will at first, but she'll find someone else to occupy her time." He smirked and places you next to him and fixed your shirt, taking care of you, holding you close.
The wheel starts moving again and when you two get off the wheel, he smiles taking your hand, and escorts you to his car where he then takes you home. "I'll come by tomorrow we'll go see a movie or something. After I tell Tatum see ya." He chuckled planting a kiss on your lips before you get out of the car and make your way inside with your dog and fish. Your mother looks at you. "Well well, looks like you had fun." You smirk big and nod. "Night mum. Love you." You kiss her cheek and rush upstairs. Putting the fish in a bowl and the dog on the foot of the bed you strip down into something comfortable grab your journal and being to write. "Dear Diary, Tonight, was the best night EVER!"

Getting stuck at the top of the Ferris Wheel.
Prompt list
18+ Warnings: None really
Between Earth and Sky modern!au
"I dunno Bell," Flora looks nervously up at the 50 foot metal structure in front of them, gripping onto his arm, "That looks really high."
"Oh c'mon!" Bellamy laughs, "You had no problem dragging me on to that janky ass, death trap of a rollercoaster, but this is what you need convincing for?"
"I don't like heights!"
"I'll be right there the whole time," he assures her, "You'll have fun, I promise."
She chews her bottom lip for a moment before nodding, "Yeah okay."
"That's my little daredevil!"
He pulls her into line and it doesn't take long until they're strapped into the seat. She makes a small noise and latches back onto his arm when they start moving backwards.
"See?" He asks when they start lowering down the other side of the wheel, "It's perfectly safe."
He feels her grip loosen and she moves one hand to the lap bar, smiling slightly as they start their second loop.
"Do I get to kiss you at the top this time?" He teases and she laughs.
"Shut up-!" She squeaks when the wheel jolts to a stop just as they crest the top a second time.
"Hey! Hey," he reaches over to where she's now white-knuckling the lap bar and places his hand on her's, "It's okay, they're probably just letting someone on."
She nods, taking a shakey breath.
After fifteen minutes of not moving he pulls out his phone and texts Monty who was getting food with Jasper, asking if he could find out what was going on.
Monty: It broke down, they're working on it, but it'll be another half hour, at least
He sighs and slips his phone back in his pocket.
"Bell, I wanna get down," she whimpers.
"I know sweetheart." He looks over and sees her eyes start to shine with tears, " Hey, it's okay, we'll get down soon. No need for tears."
He carefully wraps his arms around her, softly pulling her against him. Her hand moves from the bar to latch on to his shirt.
45 minutes later the wheel jerks again and she yelps, burying her face in his shoulder.
"I've got you," He holds her tighter when her shoulders start to shudder.
"Bell please," there's a tremble in her voice and he presses a hard kiss on the top of her head.
"They'll get us down soon, Flo, I promise," he says, "And then we can get some funnel cake, and you can win me a goldfish or somethin' at the ring toss."
He hears her let out a teary laugh and he smiles into her hair.
Another 20 minutes, and the wheel jerks a third time before moving properly again.
"You two okay?" The carnie asks as he let's them off at the bottom.
"Yeah, we're good," Bellamy says.
He leads her away, towards the food stands, sitting her down on a bench.
"See?" He crouches in front of her, tucking a loose bit of hair behind her ear, "I told you, you'd be fine."
"I'm gonna kill you!" She pouts, shoving his shoulder, making him laugh.
"Nah," he grins up at her, hands holding her's, "You love me too much for that."
"And you're damn lucky I do, Blake."
He laughs again, leaning up to capture her lips with his, "Luckiest damn man I know."

He slowly blinked and then let out a laugh. This girl was amusing and talked about her own death as if it didn't matter if she was snuffed out at any moment. She'd surprised him more times in one day than most of his members of Toman had in the time they'd been in his gang. He supposed growing up caged inside of a mafia family with no escape, that choosing the way she died was the only bit of freedom that she had. Death was inevitable and the one thing that her family couldn't take from her.
"Hmm... I guess I am all those things. But ears...?" He couldn't deny that what she said made sense, and it seemed that she was set on him wearing a pair with her. Mikey couldn't come up with a solid argument, but instead of trying to decide what pair he could tolerate, he decided on a short nap. The day had been exhausting after all. He felt rejuvenated by the time she woke up him. "Yeah I'sppose it's not just the jacket, but wearing it would be like a beacon to any gangs at the amusement park." Did gangs even go to the amusement park? The Toman leader hoped not. What he wouldn't do in order to enjoy one day as himself, showing his new friend around this fun place. Things were never that easy though, he thought bitterly as they stamped their tickets and waved the pair through the gates. At least the security was tight, so weapons likely wouldn't be an issue if they were to be ambushed. He was confident in his fists and kicks for protection, but he wasn't able to totally relax. He'd have to stay on alert just in case anyone realized who they were.
He only felt himself hope that no one noticed him even more, as he glared at his reflection in the mirror. The wolf ears weren't quite even, and he pushed the headband around to straighten them, but it made them no better. He'd never hear the end of it if anyone he knew was here. The Invincible Mikey didn't go around in animal ears."Yeah the big bad wolf or whatever... If anyone laughs at me I'll punch them." Sonia's excitement when he handed her the pair he'd gotten her, made it all worth it though. His grimace quickly turned into a smile when he realized how much she loved them. "Y-yeah I thought they would match your outfit." He said awkwardly. "Glad you like them."
Mikey found himself surprised once more as this girl fearlessly grabbed his hand, as if it was the most normal thing to do. He'd never held anyone's hand, aside from his siblings, and he marveled at how warm her hand was in his own. It was a cooler day after all, but it wasn't purely physical warmth that he felt at that moment. The boy gave her hand a small squeeze. "Let's go!" He grinned in a carefree way, and he had no trouble keeping up with her, despite their height differences. "Oh yeah Space Mountain. My brother took me to it. It's really cool!" He wasn't sure if she would find it as exciting as she seemed to think it would be, but roller coasters were fun either way.
There were lots of food stands nearby and the line for Space Mountain was, as usual, very long. "It's gonna be a little wait. For times like these, it's best to get a little snack to eat while you wait in line" Manjiro's eyes lit up as he scanned the stalls. "They have funnel cakes! Those are my favorite!" He wandered over to the stall and ordered a funnel cake with whipped cream and strawberries. "You want something? They have deep fried oreos and cheesecake. Or there are other stands..."
After he posed the question to the Ultimate Mafia Boss, the vendor handed him a large funnel cake. "Hey... this is supposed to have a flag. Where is it!?" The vendor raised a brow, before placing a small flag on top of his funnel cake. His excitement was palpable as he gazed upon the masterpiece.
"These are pretty big if you want to share. They're hella good too." He wanted to give her all of the options for her first theme park snack. He'd never been good at sharing, with his boys, but he didn't mind giving Sonia some bites. This was her experience after all, and he was just along for the ride(and funnel cakes.)
Sonia had shrugged as they made their way through the Chiba prefecture. Surrounded mostly by residential homes occupied by the upper middle class and upper class families of Tokyo, they both had looked terribly out of place. Mikey was the leader of one of the most prolific delinquent gangs in Tokyo and Sonia's look was flashy, powerful, older than most likely expected a high school girl to dress. Unlike many girls, though, she'd been forced to grow up quickly, if not too soon. Thus his astonishment at her reaction to his motorcycle riding earned him a shake of the head in return. "We will all die sometime," She pointed out, "Whether that is by a weapon, or a motorcycle, or a supernatural entity waiting to claim one's soul for the depths of hell. At least if I had been scraped into mush on the side of the road, it would have given the Borghese Family an element of surprise. Something no one could have expected. If I had to depart this world at seventeen years old, I should like to make it memorable."
A sad situation nevertheless, one that seemed callous and inappropriate at an amusement park. But Sonia wasn't surprised that he balked at the idea of animal ear headbands: the street gang members she was familiar with would rather be beaten to a pulp by their worst enemy than admit to any 'girly' interest. "The sort of leader who has a vivid understanding of when they must be focused and taciturn, unshakable even in the most dire circumstances...and when they should be having fun, not giving a fuck about their titles or what anyone thinks of them," She answered for him, already heading towards the mall. "While you wait, maybe decide which one you want to be today."
What he'd decided on in her absence was sleepy, something she hadn't considered as she ventured back towards the motorcycle looking decidedly less like an organized crime underboss and far more like a foreign tourist cosplaying a Japanese schoolgirl. "It is just like your jacket, I think," She replied thoughtfully at his assessment. "No one would doubt that you are The Invincible Mikey of Toman, just like I am never doubted as the daughter of Valentina Borghese. Whether we like it or not, our attire aids our ability to lead. Though at present, I am quite comfortable simply being Sonia Nevermind." She chose not to comment directly on his appraisal of her new look, but her widened eyes at a compliment from him was an involuntary response. She shook her head as she followed him to the gates, and had opened her mouth to interject that she could surely afford the tickets before he'd cut her off, paying for them himself. Another puzzle she needed to riddle out: street gangs, as far as she knew, were traditionally composed of young men and women who came from lower income families, and with parents who needed to work round the clock just to support them and without much in the way of guidance or supervision. They banded together until school days ended and the only thing in the adult world that suited them were soldiers for various yakuza families, often who recruited them with promises of great wealth and influence. Fuyuhiko, during a shooting range session they'd shared once, had confided in her that such promises were often empty, leaving former street gang members trapped in their chosen crime family with no real future to be had.
Something Sonia bitterly understood, the pipeline in organized crime, as she handed off a new model of a handgun for Fuyuhiko to try. In case, of course, the Kuzuryuus wished to do business again with the Borgheses. Even her friendships, though as she stepped foot into Tokyo Disneyland's World Bazaar, she questioned if any illegal activity could possibly happen beyond petty theft. A massive glass roof protected a quaint street, the sort she remembered from old American movies, with a towering fairytale castle in the distance. The street itself was lined on both sides with various shops and eateries, and Mikey hadn't wasted time in leading them to one of the brightly-lit stores that seemingly piped in both enticingly sweet smells and songs from Disney's popular films. "Goodness, how does one even choose a souvenir?" Sonia asked, awed by the sheer amount of branded merchandise available. Japan loved consumerism, and gifting even more, but from plush dolls to keychains, tissue box holders to soap dishes, to individually wrapped biscuits to an array of t-shirts and hats. "I guess you choose a favorite character or some such thing. I wonder if they have anything Jack and Sally related, or Stitch-"
But she hadn't gotten that far. Mikey had returned, with a pair of gray fuzzy ears on his head and another set, pale blue with the quintessential round mouse shape and a big bow in the center. "Does that make you the Big Bad Wolf then?" She asked, raising an eyebrow before her smirk turned into a genuine, delighted smile. "Oh, look at them! They are so cute and the color matches!" She chuckled, eagerly accepting them before nodding to him. "Thank you, Sano-san. Yes, they are perfect! And I shall not leave you alone in donning ears today. These shall fit great, fo' sho'!" With the aid of a nearby mirror, she plunked the pair of pale blue Minnie ears on her head, adjusting them until they were even.
"Come on, come on!" She urged, doing what likely no member of Toman, barring Draken, would ever think of doing to The Invincible Mikey: she took him by the hand, dragging him out of the shop and in pursuit of the retro space age decorations on one side of the park: Tomorrowland. Or at least, the future as envisioned in mid-century America. "There is a mountain here, which is apparently code for roller coasters! And this one is in space. We must ride it and see how fast we move through the stars!" That is, if they weren't distracted by the array of food options on the way: ice cream, flavored popcorn, pastries, and more all were open for business, each offering looking more tempting than the last.
