plops down beside her, head resting against her arm. "You giving back my controller or what? I'm bored..."
@zoomingupthathill // max shenanigans
Tumblr media
" well, you're just going to have to wait your turn, " lexa replies, grin stretching ear to ear. she's played this level so many times, she can practically run through it in her sleep. emerald eyes are locked on the screen as 8-bit graphics unfold before them. she times a jump to get to the next platform, followed by an attack which clears her path previously blocked by a flying enemy. this is the TEDIOUS part. moving too fast would often result in getting hit, losing armor and eventually game over. " you know the drill. it's mine - " she means the controller. " until i die. " lexa grabs the styrofoam cup next to her and drains the rest of her soda, still pulling through the straw long after the liquid is gone. for obnoxious dramatic effect. " sorry, kid. i don't make the rules. " while maintaining her focus, lexa reaches across her body for the half eaten bag of fries and offers it to max.

Stray kids and their sneaky love antics | Fluff, Comedy
Tumblr media
Pairing: Stray kids members X reader (reader is implied to have periods in Felix's part but other than that no pronouns are used)
Genre: Fluff, comedy, bullet point
Warnings: sNeAkY bois, pranking and blaming it on ghosts, lino opens your bags without permission, overprotective behavior (??), they're all playing dumb, Jeongin is one feisty boy, periods, food (sweets) , lots of TEASING
Length: 2k total
A/N: It's all just for fun I swear 😂 I couldn't sleep last night so I came up with this lmao
Tumblr media
Chan who always puts spare change in your jacket pockets
Maybe he noticed how you always seem to freeze on the spot or apologize awkwardly every time cashiers ask you if you have any change
Or maybe this is just his way of giving you money in a way you don't notice so you won't scold him for spoiling you (again)
You don't notice it at first, but you do breathe a sigh of relief when you actually do have some coins on your next purchase
And the next one...
And the next one after that...
Okay hold up, what the-
Is your jacket pocket an endless well of fortune??? You're taking out coins but they keep coming back???
Nah just joking of course you realized it was Chan
Especially since one day you caught him, like a gremlin in the dark, hovering around your jacket in the hallway
"Whatcha doing, boo?"
He jumps and tries to splutter some excuse to you but you're not impressed
"Ah, I wanted to ask you, do you have some spare change by any chance?" You tease him and he bursts out laughing and turns beet red
"You caught me!" He exclaims, still laughing as you drag him out of the dark to cuddle with you
"You sneaky coin goblin" you tease him further and ruffle his hair
────────── · · · · ✦
Lee know who always puts packets of sweet biscuits in your purse/ backpack
It's a habit for him, he's a caretaker - packets of snacks for all of his kittens (you included)
You told him you liked those packets of biscuits you bought from the supermarket last time
And you told him you get hungry often when you're not home
1+1=2
Lino buys biscuits. Lino puts said biscuits in your bag. And then he acts like nothing happened, of course
So when you come home one day, and look inside your bag and go "oh, how'd this get here?" he shrugs his shoulders.
"Aren't they yours?" And you're like sir what
"No? Maybe someone put them in my bag by mistake?"
"No no I'm pretty sure they're yours." He answers and you're like. Oh. I see how it is.
"And you had absolutely nothing do to with them, right?" You tease, and he purses his lips and shakes his head no
"Well then if they're mine, let's eat them!" You explain, and Lino snatches them out of your hand lmao
"No, I'm pretty sure they were there so you can eat them when you get hungry outside."
"Wow it's so weird you know that considering you had nothing to do with them!" Oh he's trying so hard to keep a straight face but he's failing
So you put them back in your bag and actually keep them as an emergency snack. And then send lino a pic with the empty foil saying "thank you <3" and he literally replies with "thank the ghosts not me. I told you I had nothing to do with it."
The ghosts continued to put biscuits in your bag
────────── · · · · ✦
Changbin who always carries around a fanny pack with a tiny bottle of water inside in case you get thirsty outside
Changbin often showcases his care for others by looking after their health
Sometimes he can be a little irritating and pushy, always telling you to exercise and eat this and that and what not
You came to a compromise eventually, you're not gonna work out with him but you're gonna go out often and go on many walks
After all it's quality time, right?
But no no the mans come prepared
Always. Wether it's an intended walk for exercise or a walk for romantic vibes or you're going to the mall, doesn't matter
He always has that teeny tiny water bottle with him just so he can go like "you thirsty? I gotcha babe" lmao
Because as Changbin always says, "soda doesn't help with your thirst, only water does" 🙄
He's no fun sometimes but you still love his overbearing ass <3
────────── · · · · ✦
Hyunjin who "accidentally" gets paint on the clothes of his you like sleeping in so that you could keep them
They say there's two stages to falling in love with a man
First, you fall in love with him.
Second, you fall in love with his clothes
And oh boy that hoodie of his was looking mighty fine that evening
And the evening after
Hyunjin could swear you growl louder than Kkami if he tries to take his clothes back
Well then oOps. He mighty have accidentally painted wearing that hoodie and might have accidentally stained it with paint (weird that the stain looked like it was made with a brush, huh.)
You were like, "Oh no! We can wash it??" And he was like this paint is really hard to get out of the material, so you just HAD to keep it as your sleeping hoodie now ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
But then it just so happened you also caught a crush on a shirt of his one day
How'd that one also end up stained with paint???
A whole ass mystery
But oop looks like that shirt can't be worn outside anymore either, what a shame.
Hyunjin smiles to himself as he sees the collection of his clothes that are purely reserved for you, sitting on the shelf he's dedicated to you.
They're just clothes after all. Objects. He doesn't care about them, he can replace them. But you're everything to him
────────── · · · · ✦
Han who always comes up with new nicknames and endearment terms, each one sweeter than the other
You can't lie. At first it was kinda cringe
The way he was all like "ah, my sweetie honey poo, my shiny golden angel, the first ray of sunshine of spring warming up my heart"
Ok, dork lmao
But they always made you laugh
And he loved seeing you happy
Some days he wouldn't do it and you'd instantly notice
It became a necessity, okay? To hear what ridiculous, creative mishmash of words he could throw your way
So you'd go outta your way to ask him, "so what am I to you today?"
And Jisung's brain is buffering  "Uh, my lover?"
"Just your lover? What happened to being as soft and sweet as creme brulee?" He said that once. Yep.
And his eyes light up! He scoots closer and picks up your hand to kiss it
"You're the reflection of everything I hoped I could deserve in this world. My crystal ball of good fortune"
How does he keep coming up with these, nobody will ever know
But your goofy lyrical genius will do anything for you
────────── · · · · ✦
Felix who knows your menstrual cycle by heart and always carries pads with him
It's not that Felix paid extra attention to when you were talking about your period. He just ALWAYS paid attention to what you said
He's a man of detail
So he was listening to you, always offering to help you out with whatever you were craving or needing, and eventually he began to note down your cycle in his calendar and that somehow lead to preparing in advance every month
With snacks, asking you if pms is bothering you, if you're irritated, hungry etc
And of course he'd buy you pads for the house that's just a granted
But on top of that he also had an extra pack at his place from which he'd take one or two pads and put them inside his backpack for emergencies
He'd advise you to check if you can take days off in case the pain is too bad
And he won't push you to go out AT ALL
It's like he had two modes: boyfriend mode and older sister mode 😂
All in all he's not afraid to put in effort and he's a literal angel I'm telling you
────────── · · · · ✦
Seungmin who keeps putting candy in the pockets of your pajama pants
This one started out as a prank
He had no other choice but to get a couple of candy because the shop he bought from had no change to give him
And he won't just give you the candy, duuh
You had a habit of throwing your pajama pants on the back of a chair
His eyes landed of them and the plan locked in his head
He literally sat there and watched you put on the pants clueless. And then he URGED YOU to come to bed exasperatedly
But you were uncomfortable??? Something was poking your leg??
You take out the candy and squint at it in the dark
"What is this doing here?"
"I know right, why do you have candy in your pajamas, you weirdo."
Oh THE GLARE you gave him
Seungmin had an epiphany that night. That messing with you is fun. Oh boy.
He waited before doing it again, of course. He had to keep you on your toes
But this time you caught on the moment you pulled up the pants up your leg
"Kim Seungmin!" You exclaimed while laughing and he feigned innocence yet again. You still haven't eaten the candy from last time, so with a bunch of candy in your hand, you dropped them on the bed and began unwrapping one as you guys watched Netflix
"If you keep buying them, let's at least eat them, you fiend."
"Ew I don't want your gross pant candy." But he ate it after you thew a pillow in his face
But one time he put an entire candy cane in there and it was just jutting out of your pocket like a Christmas stocking and you literally broke into a laughter fit for 15 minutes straight
────────── · · · · ✦
Jeongin who will pick a fight with any person who interrupts you while you're speaking
Jeongin began to get angry on your behalf ever since you started dating
He's usually so calm, so chill
But suddenly!! if someone messes with his baby say goodbye calmness
That one guy who closed a door in your face? Literally scolded a stranger for closing a door in someone's face like that
God forbid someone pushes you on the street
He will literally sit there and teach people manners lmao
But if there's one thing about manners he hates, it's being interrupted while speaking
But if YOU get interrupted while you're speaking?
W a r
"Do you need to clean your ears? Someone was speaking."
Literally how DARE THEY interrupt his sweet angel
You could literally be talking to him about pigeons and he'd still think it's the most important thing he's ever heard
The amount of times he's sassily shushed people so you'd be able to finish one goddamn sentence
He's so disappointed in society, can you tell?

gaah I have so much information bouncing around in my head about my ocs (and also some little hcs abt actual characters) .. throwing all I can put into words under a read more
Jerry
while its reckless behavior and disregard for safety may make it seem like it doesn't know what it's doing, she knows exactly what she's doing . it is fully a choice
she's very skilled at jerry-rigging things
also, she's really good at calculating/estimating what will happen if she introduces a new variable to a situation which often leads it to creating these elaborate rube goldberg machines when it's bored that work almost perfectly the first time they're run
messy coder, it usually results in her bots lashing out at her due to a bug somewhere in there, which in turn gets her hurt
if you're like 6' it can and will climb you to gain the height advantage
Ibis
he's got a bit of the cowrruption in his blood, thanks to his dad
because of this he has like, periods of intensely violent urges
the most recent of these violent times ended up with a phone booth beat the hell up, which he is not proud of at all
turned to pacifism as a way to quell the urges and has since learned some different ways to let out that energy (breaking pencils, screaming into pillows, aggressively baking, etc etc)
honestly if he had the chance he would've joined the baker boys
he's fond of goblin foods!
full of confidence
Heron
such a himbo
most of his scars post-wol are from being on the cow's side of the stampede in 1906 and he's got little stories that go along with em (which I may post later)
he had a wife at one point but sadly she died during childbirth. her name was Cherise.
burning hatred towards clowns. all his compassion goes out the window once he catches sight of one and he'll be one bad interaction away from recreating a rodeo
he loves his son so much and he's so proud of him
als when the stampede happened and all the cows went back to hell or whatever, Heron was left so far east that he had to walk back home and it took a couple months because no one would dare give him a ride home
filed down his horns when ibis was young so he didn't get hurt when playing around
still keeps in contact with gary (or at least his decendants)
S
genuinely he's like both sides of the "someone's gonna die..." "of fun!" meme
she can just shoot ppl so fast that a whole row of ppl will just drop dead once the shots are in the air
they ate a lava fava once and regretted it immediately.
when he was at gun manor things were Tense between him and florence. like she was talking about killing a ghost to a ghost ? yeah thats uncomfy
tbf florence didn't know because like, since like s was an Unnaturally occurring ghost she didn't show up on the radar thing and she didn't want to find out what that zapper did tbh
after the gun manor reckonin' they did tell florence that they were a ghost though lmao so they're all good
misc headcannons
the pencil hobo is so blorbo to me n it makes me so sad he doesn't have a name so I hc his name is Penn
als I'm hcing that the dude who works at the fission chips name is charlie because the pirate restaurant mentions how charlie (the guy above them) is hiding the true sandwiches or something

Here we go again. The candidate I mainly worked for won, but everyone else, including the state seems to have lost. The other two candidates I worked for were long shots, so that's to be expected, my main guy was favored, but not a lock, so at least that went well and kept the seat we could have lost. Obviously the more devastating return is at the top, and we're now cursed to deal with this disgusting thing for at least another four years when we were on the verge of finally exorcising that hideous thing and its ilk. If they'd just lost, preferably decisively, we could finally start moving beyond that as they start finally re-calibrating how they want to conduct themselves, and then maybe they conclude that they need to stop with all the cartoonishly idiotic, anti-democracy stuff. The last time this was going on, I felt extremely sad--to tears--this time I just feel angry and disgusted at my fellow citizens. Last time I could wrap my head around people not knowing what they're getting, this time, there are no excuses. The only quasi-comfort is that most people didn't vote, so I remain optimistic that most people don't want this, but they still couldn't be bothered to vote. And now the idiotic media is going to sprint to start interviewing more of these braindead diner-dwellers, and dismissing every molecule of people who don't want this. They, too, would have finally, maybe dropped their incessant fawning over all these horrendous cartoon characters, too, if it had been decisively blue. Just extremely frustrating--I wanted to be able finally, finally to start tuning some of this stuff out, not having to pay so much attention to the news and everything, so I can finally, finally return to focusing on and caring primarily about art. My art has gotten weaker, less polished, ever since all this. I don't think I've made anything portfolio-worthy since before then. I just want to be able to, like with Joe, let him hand the minutia, and then just check in here and there as a normal citizen, rather than having to keep all this stuff right next to me in the off chance I need to explain it to a voter on a phone-bank some day. So the only slight tears have been from just before, as it was looking like Kamala was going to get it done. There were some pangs earlier today, when they interviewed this Hispanic lady with her two little kids, who she had explained the situation to, and her little boy started crying. My fury remains with the malicious idiots (every single one of them) who voted for this, but also the absolute idiots who undermined Joe, when he could have quietly won this, and then also the selfish idiots who undermined him and the party throughout his presidency, downplaying every victory and gain, meanwhile blaring every shortcoming or pitfall. I personally know two such people who couldn't wait ever to throw a parade every time there was some setback or negative story, but never, ever, ever broadcast when Joe and the team came up with a solution or remedy. I am just sick of these people. If anything I've felt like throwing up, especially seeing more of this leather-faced piece of garbage more on TV. I have always, since it was a punchline on Conan--which is how I only ever knew this thing--avoided that disgusting face and voice, and now here we are having to go through all this again, like after you beat Ghosts n' Goblins, and then--nope!--gotta do it all over again. But my fellow citizens who chose this, as always, simply disgust me. The unbridled racism and gender-bias are plain. The other thing I can't stand is now how other countries' officials also now have to start playing along with this stupid make-believe with all that braindead "greatest" "best" "incredible" idiotic language in engaging with the US. It's like one giant conspiracy to entertain the stupidest, most spoiled child you could conjure. I don't believe this thing will even last more than two years, but whatever, the sickening thing at VP is going to just prolong all this. The only hope is minimizing damage til midterms.

pokemon ask: all the odd numbers!
[cracks knuckles] okay. OKAY. this is LONG so this is going under a cut because this is gonna take a while.
1. favourite type?
ghost! there are just so many fun little gremlins and goblins i adore to shreds in the ghost type. electric and ice are a close second because aesthetic, but in the end ghost just barely edges them out.
3. favourite DUAL type
uhhh gotta be level with you i love it when shit gets grouped together with the /flying type. i could be entirely unimpressed with a fella and then i find out it's part flying and i'm like captain k'nuckles oohing over that fucking dog
5. favourite trainer
n...hello n. how are you and your complete character arc and sequel exploring the results of your character arc and etc. i adore you.
7. favourite gym leader
tate and liza! i remember them being an absurdly hard obstacle to my newbie ass the first time i played through ruby, and even back then i had already started adoring double battles as a thing. so seeing gym leaders go "here that's our thing now" made me go oooh.
also pokemon masters gives them some cute characterization! liza hanging out with guzma is a particular favourite character interaction of mine.
i also really, really love lenora. having a gym inside a museum/library is like, #goals. it's totally my aesthetic.
(also i don't know if we're allowed to count trial captains, but if we are, i'd also add nanu here. grumpy old man with five million cats and a sad cop backstory. also apparently a bad cop in the anime but that plotline went nowhere lmfao)
9. favourite elite 4 member
shauntal for being a literal ghostwriter. like. how do you beat that? love her. love that gal. pokemas has her mention that she's been friends with her chandelure since she was a little girl and it was a litwick, and she used to read and write by its candlelight at night, and that just immediately brought me back to my days of hiding under the sheets with a book and a flashlight. like. love her. love that gal. good for her and her mountain of ghost books.
11. favourite trial (sun & moon)
sophocles' trial in the original sumo games! not because of its format (quizzes are always boring) but how it's presented as a comedy of errors from this kid trying to do his best in the role that he's given. and of course, that final question that straight up breaks the fourth wall. like. please. i appreciate that humor. i was kinda sad that his trial got revamped in the ultra remakes, it lost a lot of its life and felt more like a standard gym challenge.
13. favourite antagonist team
i want to take team skull home and feed them and give them hugs. they're such dorks. they're just punks who lost their place in the world and trying to carve out their own niche, and that niche is TROUBLE. the little bits of when you can actually see them hurting just kinda kicks me in the nads.
15. favourite shiny pokemon
i mean it's my favourite pokemon in general, but flygon. it's just so bright, and neon-y! flygon is my flagship pokemon in general so the fact that its shiny is cute makes me very happy.
17. 3 favourite pokemon
flygon, dhelmise, sigilyph! flygon has always been my favourite since hoenn, it's my big dragonfly baby. sigilyph has always struck me as a very unusal flying pokemon and i adore how it's modeled after the nazca lines. and dhelmise is just so charming to me in how the actual pokemon is the faceless possessed lump of seaweed and everything else is just it deciding it wants to yeet ship parts at things. love it. you do you, king.
19. favourite pokemon game
the b/w series! i just really love the spritework, the life the region was given, the stories it had, the characters it built...10/10 would absolutely play again even though it does not need a remake but i will accept a port.
21. favourite legendary/mythical pokemon
oh this is hard. early baby me really loved articuno and suicine (it's where i got my handle from! i went by Northwind Gale on the serebii forums because of suicune being the north wind pokemon or something like that, and that just hung on until now im just the Gale y'all know today lmao). but a lot of legendaries are pretty damn cool now that ive grown! zekrom’s a big fave of mine too. big and black and blue electricty glowin’, the way that it appears to a traner filled with ideals, the entire lore behind it is just [chef’s kiss].
i kinda like zygarde as a concept, though. a legendary that isn't a singular entity, but rather made up of multiple hiveminded parts that have been scattered across the world to help observe its state of balance. it feels more like a force of nature than a physical being. a representation of what it embodies. it's cool. i appreciate that the anime played with that concept. (almost made up for the absolutely DISAPPOINTING bullshit they pulled with xerneas and yveltal tbh)
23. favourite music track from a pokemon game
Tumblr media
oh lawdy. oh lord. god. okay. this is so fucking hard, actually. i fucking love pokemon music, it makes up half my playlist, please don't expect me to actually pick one.
from the main games: r/s/e's trainer school, route 113, gym leader and champion theme; b/w's box legendary, side legendary, black city, village bridge and ending theme; sumo's vs solageo/lunala; swsh's battle tower & gym theme
from the spinoff games: mystery dungeon 2's vs dialga; mystery dungeon 1's sky tower; pokemon ranger 3's vs pokemon pincher grunt; learn with pokemon typing adventure's boss theme; literally almost every fucking song on pokemon masters' ost, what the actual fuck is this thing on
that's off the top of my head! there's like, tons more in my playlist but if i went through that i'd be here all day
25. favourite design of a pokemon
again, dhelmise. it's just so funny. here's a floating steel anchor. it has a face. no it's not steel type. no it's not water type. it's a grass/ghost because the actual pokemon is the seaweed on its face fuck you. sumo really does bring a lot of my favourite "faceless entity has a mockup of a face or doesn't even bother trying" designs like mimikyu, xurkitree, stakataka, etc. i love it. give me more faceless pokemon gamefreak. i want them all.
27. overall favourite generation of pokemon
gen 5! it's not only the era of my favourite mainline games, it's also when we had a lot of fun ds sidegames (well, gen 5 and gen 4) like the pmd and ranger series. it just really felt like the end of an era, looking back, when they were just really pushing what spritework could bring, what the touch screen could do with gameplay. i love it. the fun pokemon designs are just a cherry on the cake.
29. favourite normal type
i've always had a soft spot for the zigzagoon line. they're small and fluffy and good. and thanks to middlest bro i appreciate furret as well. good long bois.
31. favourite fire type
i love...centiskorch. long fire bug. big boy. gets even bigger when gigantamax. all the cute fanart we get of kabu with the pre-evo makes me love it more.
33. favourite fighting type
the only reason i didn't put blaziken up in 31 was so i could put it down here instead. torchic (and hoenn in general) was the generation where my brothers and i started our starter picking tradition based on our faves (i would pick fire types, littlest bro picked grass types and middlest bro picked water). i love this little chicken, love that it grows up to be big kicky chicken. good for them.
35. favourite water type
pyukumuku! it is small, and round, and if it dislikes you it will disgorge its internal organs into the shape of a fist and punch your lights out, and that’s wonderful.
lapras has also been a long time favourite mainstay of mine as well, ever since we first got one from rescuing silph co back in gen 1! so gentle, so graceful. a wonderful being.
37. favourite flying type
corviknight! it is big, and terrifying, and oh so very helpful. i love the corviknight taxi as a thing, love that people just put themselves into stagecoach shaped birdcages and be carried around. it’s wonderful. corviknights are wonderful. i love my big feathery beast of a bird.
39. favourite grass type
you know it, you love it, it’s dhelmise! again! y’all wish you were as swag as these fellas
41. favourite poison type
gengar! because i love my ghosts, and i can only put so many ghosts into the favourite ghosts ask. but also one of my favourite epsides as a kid was the pokemon tower episode and watching these goofy little ghosts just wanna play with a kid, so they kill him by accident. and then they get to do ghost things. listen. ghosts are good. gengar is a big ghost friend. he deserves hugs. i bet he gives wonderful hugs. hug the giant poison cloud. do it.
43. favourite electric type
vikavolt! a giant six foot railgun beetle is a good and great friend! treasure it. luxray is also a good favourite of mine, mostly because of the x-ray eyes and yusei hair.
45. favourite ground type
mudsdale! it’s literally a giant clydesdale horse. what’s not to love. i also really love krookodlie. big old sandigator with sunglasses. absolutely dope. big ground boyes.
47. favourite rock type
so i’ve already mentioned stakataka. i love the idea of horrible little hivemind creatures becoming one big thing. it’s a bunch of blocks! with eyes! and each one is alive! and they’re all living and working together to become this terrifying eldritch behemoth of a wall! i love them! i also love the fossil mons cradily and armaldo and archeops. they’re such fun designs. even if i don’t ever usually use fossil mons in my playthrough because i usually have a full dedicated team by the time i unlock one, i love them very much.
49. favourite ice type
s...nom. i love them. thy are small, and round, and sound like jingle bells. this is partially middlest bro’s fault. he’s obsesed with them and that enthusiasm infected me. but really, snom is just so cute. . . .
i also really love crygonal! “gale it’s just an angry snowflake” yes but it’s my angry snowflake. i’m weak for geometric designs. leave me alone.
51. favourite bug type
galvantula is the greatest bug type of all time and if you don’t agree you can eat my bug lovin’ ass because oh my god. my baby. my baby tarantula. “tarantulas aren’t bugs gale” well pokemon gave it six legs so it’s technically not a spider RIGHT? anyways i loved my galvantula so much that when zekrom insisted on taking a spot on my team to fight N i said “no, fuck off, the galvantula stays” and i sent zekrom to the box. and i fought n on my own with no legendary. zekrom was weaker than my spider anyway it needs to git gud
(i’m sorry zekrom i love you too)
53. favourite dragon type
it’s. the baby. my baby. FLYGONNNNNNN. my number one forever and always. my partner for life the one that weathers the storms and stays by my side. aridsoptera my love i don’t care if gamefreak neglects you until the end of time and refuses to give you fun toys like megas or gigas or regional variants you will always be my number one
55. favourite ghost type
mimikyu my darling. hello my baby hello my darling hello my rag-wearin gal. what can i say about you that people haven’t already said? you’re perfect.
57. favourite dark type
absol! because i fell in love with it the moment i first ran into it in ruby and boy howdy did i spend many, many hours hunting one down after failing to catch the first one i found. the fact that it’s a misunderstood baby that just wants to warn people and gets blamed for shit instead makes me want to give it a hug.
59. favourite psychic type
sigilyph! like i mentioned before, i love its strange design, i love its cry, love its spritework, what else can i say.
61. favourite steel type
metagross! another hoenn mon that i fell in love with at first sight when steven caved my underlevleled ass in the first time i tried challenging the elite 4. it just looked so badass. and then that one trainer in the deoxys movie who looked like me and carried a laptop around just casually sends one out and i’m like !!!! it is a Sign. it is meant to be for me. there’s this fanart i love of some girl goign throu traffic while just casually lounging on her metagross on some kind of kotatsu or something, and man. life goals. i too want to have a metagross to ride on as i casually trawl the interwebs.
63. favourite fairy type
gardevior is, yet again, another hoenn mon that i fell in love with first sight when seeing another trainer use it for the first time. i straight up restarted ruby the first time i played after beating the champion, just so i could catch and use a ralts early game, so you know it was gonna be a fav for life. and it’s just. it’s never let me down. good defenses, terrifying special attack. and then it gained the fairy typing in gen 6 and became even more terrifying.
65. favourite pokemon movie
this is a bit of a hard call, but i’m going to say the keldeo movie! it tends to be pretty overlooked, as do many of the b/w movies, but it’s a fun little movie that focuses largely on keldeo’s growth as ash and co help try to protect it from the results of its own bad decisions. frankly, the bw movies in general did a really good job at making the focus legendaries their own characters with their own stories (admittedly the victini movie only made a start at it, but still) which really helped sell them as pokemon i would want to try and get a special event for?
as an aside, this is also why the newtwo movie is another one of my favourites. she’s written as a fairly compelling character in her own right without needing to lean on og mewtwo as a base, so like...the movie in general doesn’t deserve the hate it gets (if it still gets hate, i remember people backlashing pretty hard against the mewtwo shilling back then). i remember making a writeup about the differences between the two mewtwos ages ago, and i had an ENTIRE writeup on plurk after i actually watched the movie that i’m wiling to share if anyone wants to hear, but lmao this ask is getting so long already so.
67. favourite animated adaptation
i know people don’t like best wishes because of all the lost potential but listen. i like the bw anime and it’s still a favourite of mine to this day. it has lots of little gems in character interaction and animation that xy and sumo take and continue on with, so i genuinely think people don’t give it enough credit. yes, it has its failings, but so does every other season of pokemon.
69. favourite pokemon card
i. i don’t actually have any pokemon cards that i’ve ever collected so like. all th eold ones i had as a kid i barely remember, but i do remember having a blastoise that i really liked.
71. favourite pokemon tumblr blogs!
IM MAKING A CALLOUT POST ON MY TUMBLR DOT COM @scrawlers AND @wild-battlebond ARE BITCHASS MOTHERFUCKERS WHO TOOK OUT AGES OF MY LIFE. THAT’S RIGHT THEY TOOK OUT AGES OF MY LIFE. ENGAGING ME IN PRODUCTIVE, INTERESTING, ABSOLUTELY FASCINATING DISCOURSE AND CREATING WONDERFUL HEADCANONS
also @jadeazora deserves props for being an amazing source of news and updates! you’re doing thankless work that i’m sure many of us have come to take for granted, but bless you regardless.
73. favourite pokemon merchandise
so when i was a wee 90′s kid, and the local Lotte(tm) asian market still had an electronics section, there was this little pikachu alarm clock that i pestered my mom into buying for me. when it rang it would say “Good morning!” and then play the chorus bars of a song i didn’t recognize at the time, but would later come to know as Mezase Pokemon Master. i loved that clock. i loved it to bits. i would use it as a timer for fucking eveyrthing. i would set the alarm off on purpose so i could hum along to the song.  even when the battery case started falling out and wouldn’t stay the fuck in. i ended up passing the clock down to middlest bro, and i think he might still have it around. i don’t know if the clock still works though. god i need to see if he still has it. i miss that clock.
75. a pokemon you feel is overrated
if i see another fucking sylveon merchandise i will strangle that fucking fairy fox with its own ribbons. i hate it. i fuckingng hate sylveon and its unnatural ribbonass face. why ribbons. surely you could make a fairy eeveelution look more natural than fuckin pastel flesh tentacle ribbons
77. favourite eeveelution
oh funny thing given the last ask uh. it’s umbreon. i love them. so sleek and wonderful. and the shiny is also peak beauty. a wonderful darling
and that’s a wrap! oh god sorry for the long wait THAT WAS A LONG ASK MY DEAR

The Idea of the Gamer
I woke up today to Matthewmatosis streaming Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection and figured I'd give it a watch. I like his videos a good deal, and I'd recommend watching them if you haven't. Except the Demon's/Dark Souls commentaries, those games are the least interesting things on the planet
The stream had a nice atmosphere. He's just kinda figuring things out in the game and responding to chat every so often. In fact, he largely ignores chat in his streams, and will often just talk about whatever he wants without others having much influence, which I think is a good decision. His chat can have some cool discussion in it, but a lot of the time people are up their own ass. They'll make statements while blatantly emphasizing how unique and special and smart they are for not buying in to what the masses think.
It's baffling how these people just parrot whatever they've heard on YouTube and pretend it's this profound stance that sets them apart from all the normies, as if watching some guy you think is smart is enough to become enlightened yourself. There's this one guy who was talking about how mainstream games journalism isn't good - a concept which is already immensely obvious to most/all people you'd expect to find in a stream like this - and listed exactly two incredibly basic points as to why, one of which is just elitist trash.
(quotes are paraphrased)
"They don't have enough experience to accurately judge games!" It feels like an admission that they're still fuming about that one Cuphead video because they just can't handle that maybe some people don't dedicate their lives to this stuff. It's a fair enough point if a casual reviewer is reviewing something which is obviously targeted towards a "hardcore audience," but to say this in such a general way paints a different picture to me. This is pretty much a guess, but I think it's a safe bet to say that the vast majority of games aren't hard enough to warrant having "specialist reviewers," so I don't think it's quite the rampant problem that they're making it out to be. In fact, the worst interpretation of the statement implies that not being good enough at games means you lack the authority to review any of them, and if they're trying to say that, like... I don't know what to say. (Much later in the stream it was implied that the harsher reading is correct, as Matthewmatosis said that the better a player is at handling game systems, the easier it is to grasp other aspects of the game, and this person put in chat "this is a subtle critique of games journalism." Great.)
"They don't try to avoid bias from free review copies, etc.!" This one's valid, and widely known. It's a fair point though and one I won't argue against. Curiously, however, the very next message came out of left field with an accusation of reviewers trying to create "safe spaces," and why that's detrimental to the medium as an art form. This was baffling because it was presented as though this were already established, but it just never was; the concept of safe spaces hadn't been mentioned or implied in their previous messages, nor was it remotely relevant to anything they said. I think that gives good insight into what they're saying here. It's also worth noting that it wasn't a separate point from the others, as they numbered both of their other points, but this was was left without one, indicating that it was indeed a followup to the bias thing. That was probably unintentional, but personally it really activates my almonds.
My point is that this seems to stem from a desire to feel like they're above others. They can cry about how absurd the SJWs are for wanting safe spaces, and how that would get rid of perfect masterpieces such as Dark Souls 3, and act like they're in the know because they recognize that a massive company like IGN isn't going to be very good. This puts them above normies who buy into IGN's reviews, who play idiot casual games that don't require 1000 hours to beat a level, and SJWs who just don't get why sexy booba & ass is integral to a game's artistic merit. This isn't exactly a new idea, gamers seem to be frequently viewed in this sort of light from what I can tell, but it's still frustrating, especially in Matthew's chat. He's not perfect by any means, but he at least seems to have beliefs which are his own, and they're actually somewhat reasonable. On the other hand, a good chunk of his chat seem like the kind of people who parade the idea of "objective reviews" around.
In the process of writing this the same dude who was complaining about games journalism earlier just said they couldn't get into Evangelion because Shinji isn't a relatable protagonist lol
I know nothing about Evangelion honestly and I don't really care, but christ what a perfect summation of what I'm getting at here: they fundamentally cannot enjoy a work unless they can self-insert. I guess that would explain the "SJWs suck!!!" hint earlier. Women bad.
It demonstrates such a staggeringly flawed view of art too. I just can't understand how somebody could feel that way, honestly. I don't think it's a simple matter of preference, I think it's just that they were overly catered to and never bothered to develop the ability to engage with a story that didn't allow them to imagine themselves in the situation. Anything but a power fantasy catered specifically to who they think they are just isn't interesting. I probably need to shut up about YIIK, but I think this is part of the reason it got such bad publicity. Perhaps Andrew Allanson was more right than I thought with his comment that a lot of gamers just can't handle an unlikable protagonist. It's more nuanced in that game's case, but... I can't help but see it potentially being true in a broader sense.
I've always felt disconnected from "gamers," and it's kind of interesting to consider why. I think a large part of it is a lack of investment. I truly don't care to stay up to date with new releases, and I very rarely look for something new to play - I mostly just play things I know I like, almost as a comforting act more than anything. It's fun to try something new every so often, but if I can kill some time and feel happy playing SM64 for the 50th time, why not just do that? On the other hand, I think gamers are super invested in new releases, always looking for new things to play, or mastery of something they may revisit time and time again. I'm just not like that; I'm content to enjoy things pretty casually, even after so many playthroughs.
I think another aspect is something I accidentally touched on already. That person in chat made a big deal about identifying with protagonists, and I think that's something I've largely lacked. Not that I've played that many games with much of a narrative, but even when I have, the protagonists (or any characters at all, really) haven't been accurate to me. I don't mind that, but it highlights something related: in terms of a typical gamer, I'm just not compatible. I'm some weird deer thing, and before that I didn't feel like anything at all. My perception of what a gamer was, then, likely led to me feeling as though I wouldn't fit. I wouldn't have been able to tell you why that was at the time, but in hindsight I don't think it's a stretch to say that being a gamer is a bit elitist. I've always had a "mental image" for them that's somewhat specific - one which I never aligned with.
That said, applying labels to myself has always felt pretty weird, so I don't think I was comfortable with the idea of attaching my identity to a hobby that I didn't take very seriously. Maybe the reason I didn't want to call myself a gamer is solely due to that, rather than the demographic itself. I can't really say.
My weird identity also has another effect though. It seems a lot of gamers are quite keen on femoids with big booba and sexy dumptruck ass. I alluded to this in my last post, but I really cannot stand stuff like that, and it's an incredibly efficient way to take me out of an experience. For people who enjoy it though? They don't bat an eye. Or, well, they do, just in a particularly unfortunate way.
I'm gonna be honest with myself and say that I don't actually have a point with this. I just hate excessive sexualization in media and I really wish it weren't so common. It just feels disgusting. I deeply loathe it.
So anyway :) I'm definitely not a gamer. It may be a significant hobby for me, but I've never wanted that as part of my identity, nor does it feel that significant to me. It's just something I like doing. Just because I drink a lot of water doesn't mean I'm a water enthusiast, and the same applies to games. I play them a lot, but I don't care much about them beyond that, and I think it's better that way.
I want to return to something I briefly mentioned earlier: that people seem to believe they can become an intellectual authority just by listening to some YouTubers. As I said before, I enjoy the work of Matthewmatosis. I think he does a good job analyzing games and keeping things succinct, while also going pretty in-depth. One could even say I think he's smart. Let's say, then, that I believe I must be smart as well since I understood - and more importantly, agreed with - his points. If I were dumb, after all, how could I know what he's talking about? If I were dumb, wouldn't I disagree with him, since he's smart?
Wouldn't that make me wrong?
I think that sort of thought process, conscious or not, may lead people to conflating being smart, with having a given opinion. "This guy's smart, and I agree with him, so I'm probably smart too, and so being smart must mean you have opinions similar to mine." I don't think I need to explain why that's wrong, but let's look at its two results:
1. "My opinion is correct." This easily leads to the idea that 'objective reviews' are not only reasonable, but ideal - "objectivity" naturally meaning narrow subjectivity. This can lead to absurd levels of vitriol from those who can no longer comprehend the fact that their opinion on something isn't objective truth, and so they view people who disagree as unreasonable. Blind. The facts are right there, after all! Celeste's controls are objectively perfect! La-Mulana's controls are objectively clunky and terrible! If you can't see that, you're either an idiot, a troll, or purposefully not looking!
2. "I have a complete understanding of this topic and its nuances." Shockingly, hearing a heavily revised opinion as the result of a lot of thought and reflection does not communicate what that thought and reflection actually entailed. You only get a conclusion, which in a lot of cases is good enough, but it has its failings. I've been thinking about this recently in regards to YIIK, actually. The community has made the nuances of the game's narrative clear to me, but I'm still kinda lost in how to explore it myself and how to reflect on things, as I haven't really engaged with a work in that way before. That's exactly the issue I'm getting at. When Matthewmatosis explains something, it's true that it gets the point across, but it relies on the viewer's own understanding and intuition on whatever he's talking about. For many, it'll feel accurate, or like it explains something that they've felt but couldn't ever articulate. For others, maybe not. It's all about a common experience with a game, and being able to understand where a disagreement may arise; why he would feel one way about something, while the viewer may not. The point is that this understanding isn't guaranteed in the explanation itself, it has to be compared to one's own experiences. In the same way I find it difficult to unravel YIIK's plot myself, it's difficult for these people to analyze games themselves and come to conclusions beyond the ones they've already been given. It's dangerous to take something one hears in a video and then parade it around as if they know everything, when they probably haven't done much thinking on it at all. Only knowing the conclusion and not understanding how they got there is a severe detriment to one's ability to explain it to others, and the faulty understanding it provides is harmful to their perception of the work in question, and any they may compare that to. It's just bad all around.
Based solely on anecdotal evidence (I'm NOT a hypocrite I PROMISE) I get the impression that this sort of thing is a common problem for people, and it results in vapid, inaccurate, hostile discourse. But it's the easier option! You don't have to think about things much, it can just be black and white. The thing you like is good, and deviating from that is bad. Have conclusions fed to you, rather than coming to them yourself or thinking critically on how they may or may not apply to other works, and you have some fancy terms and ideas floating around your head, at your disposal, without necessarily knowing how or why they apply. That's where point #1 comes in, to shield you from the reality that you're engaging in poor discourse by deluding yourself into believing that you're simply correct in your assessments. Of course it would be a hostile environment, because they're just idiots, it's fine to be harsh. It's fine to be passionately right against those who are passionately wrong.
One has to put in effort to apply and communicate ideas. Simply knowing of them doesn't cut it.
