i apparently today i logged on just to complain about amc's 2018 horror period piece The Terror lmao
#but it was hyped up so much for me and i didn't care much for it#like i get what they were trying to do and i think it was a technically well-made show but the themes didn't hit for me#mostly bc i didn't care that these characters were dying bc they never should've been there in the first place#they're invaders forcing themselves somewhere they're not supposed to be and they're being punished for their hubris#and i do feel like the show does engage a bit w that theme but not enough to make an impact to me#i don't have any empathy for any character but lady silence and i don't feel like they did enough w her to make her compelling#and hickey wasn't sinister enough to be an interesting antagonist he was kind of annoying to me#and there was a bunch of opportunities to tie in the cannibalism w the nature of imperialism and colonialism but they didn't really do it#mostly bc they waited so late in the game to actually introduce the cannibalism#i don't know man. i'm always harder on projects that i think have potential and don't hit for me bc it could've been so much better#and also the tuunbaq didn't need to be there at all. it didn't serve the story in anyway imo#the terror#my posts
