thinking of the contrasts between fili and kili in that kili is not seen as a typical dwarf through things such as short beard, no braids, uses a bow, falls in love with an elf, etc. while fili is always doing the most he can to prove himself as a good dwarf and a good heir to thorin. really shows the difference in fili being the eldest and being more uptight since he has more pressure on him while kili is more rambunctious and free spirited since he doesn’t have as much pressure on him

A/N: This is my first Fili fanfic so I apologize if this is so crappy. And sorry in advance if I portrayed Fili badly. It took me a while to finish this because unlike Thorin, Fili is a little bit in an uncharted territory for me to write on.

“How come your eyes are beautiful?”
You whispered, but only to yourself, one evening when you accompanied Fili while scouting the perimeters of the forest that surrounds the camp.
“Did you say something, (Y/N)?
“Oh, nothing of the sorts Fili.” You gave him a smile, praying that he didn’t hear your words.
Ever since Fili and Kili took you under their wings and became the brothers that you never had, your adoration for the blonde prince got stronger. But no matter how hard you denied and how hard you degraded your worthiness, there’s no one else whom your heart belonged to.
Until it became evident to those with keen eyes that you’ve taken a liking to the blonde prince. Heck even Thorin knows, and was encouraging and quite insistent, in his own subtle way, of you to confess your feelings to his eldest nephew. He even admitted that he sees and treats you as his niece! It’s so unlike the Thorin that you read in the book and watched in the movies.
“Okay, if you insist.” replied Fili, though trying not to be that hopeful.
For what you didn’t know is that Fili heard you clearly. Though he haven’t been vocal about it, unlike his usual rambunctiousness together with Kili, there's something in his chest that he’s been keeping at bay ever since he met you at the Shire. What he heard from you made him feel the same pull in his heart again.
He haven’t got a clue on what he's been feeling about you when you're introduced to the whole Company. And no matter how he conceal it, it continued to grow immensely.
It all started when you told the Company your story - you hailed from another world where dwarves, elves, orcs, and goblins are non-existent except in story books, your honesty that you were scared when you suddenly woke up in a different world until Gandalf came to your aid and taught you things you need to know, and the fact you mastered archery before coming to Middle Earth that it made Thorin agree for you to join them immediately.
After realizing what the feelings all mean, with some heart-felt counseling from Balin and Thorin, with an extra rough push from Dwalin and an awkward but reassuring nudges from Kili, it didn’t take long for Fili to make the first move when he offered to fix and braid your hair one night after you took your bath in a nearby stream.
And to say that the blonde Durin heir becomes the happiest dwarrow in all of Middle Earth when you gave him a chaste but love-filled kiss the next morning.
-----
“You dare touch my princess!”
Fili bellows as he points a dagger, that he somehow hid in his person, at the Master of Lake-town’s deputy, his features like a fierce lion preparing to pounce on a trespasser who dared enter his pride.
“No one dares touch my princess with they filthy hands!”
The Lake-town Master’s deputy, who’s called Alfrid when Thorin asked Bard about him through gritted teeth, has been eyeing you ever since you and the Company arrived. And no matter how hard you tried to hide your person from him it seems he has another eye somewhere in is pitiable state of a head.
The rest of the Company don’t like him one bit, even the ever respecting Bilbo almost lost all his manners when he learnt that Alfrid has been disrespectfully looking at you.
“No need for pointing dang’rous objects at people now, do we?” Alfrid nervously said as he carefully back away from the dagger, but somehow could not for Bard’s blocking his way, also pissed as hell.
“For disrespecting (Y/N)? For degrading the sacred tradition of our kin by touching her hair? Her braids?!” Kili’s now loosing his cool, and never have you seen him loose his cool.
“You clearly didn’t regard the lass’s furious attempts on gettin’ away from ye!” Dwalin added, a deep growl evident in his ever booming voice and his accent getting thicker.
“I didn’t ev’n know ‘bout ‘dis sacred tradition of yours! ‘Twas my honest mista-”
“Enough with the excuses!” Now you haven’t heard Thorin bellowed like that since his last encounter with the Elvenking Thranduil. “You leave our presence or so help me for disrupting the peace that your Master had just formed within minutes ago.”
Bard, who becomes a close friend to you for taking care of his children during your short stay at his house, gave you a comforting smile and an apologetic pat on both Thorin and Fili’s shoulders before he forcefully dragged Alfrid away from the Company and left the front porch of the Master’s house.
You are immediately pulled in Fili’s embrace once everyone’s been ushered inside. Even both Kili and Thorin each give you their hugs and the Company each give pats on your back and shoulders. All of your frustrations due to the recent events are immediately washed away when Fili gives you a sweet and reassuring kiss.
“You are fine now, young one.” You heard Thorin while you’re still in the arms of his nephew.
Even if they’re the ones who are in a pinch, they’ll still protect you no matter the circumstances, definitely a trait that made you love them even more.
“I’m so sorry I’ve let him touch my hair and braids.” You quickly apologized when you and Fili pulled apart. “I know it is sacred and only my family and my One are allowed to touch it. I tried to pull away from him but-”
Fili, ever so romantic despite being in a killing rage minutes ago, cut you off with a short but breathtaking kiss, making your legs weak. “There’s no need for apologies amrâlimê. I should’ve been by your side when he started to eye you like that.”
He kisses you on your forehead and hugs you tightly.
“You are my One, therefore you are my princess and you are mine. It is my duty to protect you at all times.” Fili said as he gives your braids a caress.
He then slowly trained his lips to your ear, making your legs even weaker, and whispers with his voice mixed with endearment, lust, and filled with promise. “No one will dare touch you like I do ever again. And I promise they will regret that they’ve crossed the line of Durin if they dare do so.”
-----
The saying ‘Dreams do come true’ suddenly became an understatement of the century when you mysteriously fell down to Middle Earth one spring night.
You’ve read all the books, watched all the movies, been a fan for as long as you remembered, and The Hobbit has been your favorite among Tolkien’s works. But you never dreamed on having a chance to live in the world you’ve known only in your fantasies.
And never in your whole life, no matter how many times you’ve watched the movie, will you be more fascinated than you ever did when you met Fili - and destined to be his One - in the flesh.
Therefore the term ‘Living the dream’ should be the best to use in your current situation.
But a certain dwarven prince could say that he is the one who’s living his dreams, as unexpected as it initially seemed, that he will ever meet someone with both wit and intelligence, with bravery and courage, but with the purest of hearts and undying compassion.
Someone that he will both cherish and proudly call his princess, his One.
And it seems the ever foreboding that he has before of his future as heir to the throne was long forgotten and never to be resurfaced in his mind again whenever he takes a look at your braids with his beads on it, and the silver band that he secret slipped on your ring finger.
