it was not what i expected but it was still good as an adaptation. i didn’t expect a musical but i guess it fits bc the nature of magic is kinda cheesey and disney princess-y. it also connects everything together more succinctly but i also liked the ambiguity of the original. i havent reread it in a couple yrs so i can’t say for sure how it compares but i recognized most of the plot beats except for the one about hana spying on the magician — not a change i liked… i was afraid it would go down the “dangerous guy w mental illness” path

#im not gonna reread it bc its locked behind daily pass now #i read it like 5 times over a couple of yrs before it got locked so haha i guess i got it #im just a sucker for a focused short story and coming of age #magical 12th graders adaptation when ?!?!#my main gripe is the whole drama surrounding the crimes #they upped the stakes and showed the magician to be really aggressive n shit n idk…#also the fact that its a musical does kind of speedrun the character development i think lol #also also ildeung shouldve been more rude but specifically stuck up #idk i dont wanna analyzeit
