AITA for basically being my cousins' 2nd/3rd parent and actually doing my aunts/uncles job for them

I (19 ???), have six young cousins on my mom's side who i see pretty often given everyone's schedules. Im really close with 4 of them, having grown up almost like siblings mainly with the two oldest. The two youngest dont care for me especially since one is only like 4 months old

Ive always been the reliable older brother/sisterish figure to them even when i was younger, it just came naturally. But in recent years ive had to pick up the slack in alot of things related to raising my cousins in a way. A goodish example is with the oldest, she's 16 and a few years ago I had to give her the sex and period talk cuz her school barely did anything about it (long story short they literally just gave out a basic (outdated) packet that basically just said "dont have sex, girl bleed once a month" in a horrible shameful way), and her parents just said "we'll explain when you're 18".

Ive done everything from teaching them internet safety to cooking to explain topics such as the sex talk because my aunts and uncles just dont do those things.

But enough context heres the main things,

One of my cousins called me dad in front of our relatives while we were all on vacation which caused a scene to say the least. It ended with me absolutely tearing into my aunts and uncles, which i admit wasnt the best choice but still, i basically tore into them about intentionally or not have almost completely abandoned their roles as parents. (Also one got tore into for basically forgetting their oldest in favor for their youngest so much so the oldest didnt get new clothes for two years)

The fight ended with me and my cousins storming back to the room we claimed and locking the door. We basically camped out there for the last two days if the trip, only leaving for food a night (had a bathroom connected to the room thankfully) we only really spoke to my mom and our grand uncle and aunt during that time

Its been about a month since it happened and things have atleast superficially calmed, still receiving the stray vague call out on social media and getting called an selfish asshole in a polite socially acceptable way. The only people on my side are my grand aunt and uncle, my mother, my cousins, and my friends

Im torn, because on one hand i care for my cousins and dont regret finally standing up for them all including myself.

But on the other its not completely my business on how my relatives raise their kids. I didnt have to do all that i do/did. I choose to do all those things and im still choosing to do them

I would speak to a professional or something but my last therapist dropped me cuz of stories bout my family (no joke she literally said "you're family is fucked up i have no hope in helping you, you're a lost cause") so tumblr what's your thoughts this probably out if yalls pay grade but still

It was around 2 am in the morning when you and Riki decided to stay for a little bit more to finish up the first part of the song.

"1 2 3 4, 5 6 7 8" Riki counts as you both move in sync, he smiles at your worn out figure laying down on the ground "tired? we can wrap this up if you want to"

He sits down next to you, handing you his cup of cold water. Your mind secretly going on frantic over his little gesture "Let's just finish this last part and i'm heading home- unless you're tired too-" you sip the water, sitting up.

"-Nah, nah i'm not tired yet" He shakes his head. crap, did that sound too desperate? Riki asks himself, trying his best to not make it seem like he was avoiding your gaze

"Alright then, 2:30 we'll leave" You say, walking towards the table as you place the cup. Riki seriously didn't know how calm and collected you were especially with just the two of you alone, together. No managers, no members, nada.

You start playing the music, feeling yourself getting more exhausted each minute that passed by. Sloppily moving your body with the rhythm. Of course that didn't go unnoticed by Riki.

As the song ended, you both face each other. It was a part of the dance, but your face being barely an inch from Riki's wasn't. You both froze, not knowing what to do. Well, facing a different way was another solution, but neither of you wanted to do that, let's be honest.

At this moment, Riki didn't give a shit.

He grabbed you by the waist, faces inching closer by the second. But before your lips could touch—

“This one is for the boys with the boomin syst— Riki? Y/n?” Heeseung takes a second to blink, eyes refusing to see what he was seeing “I uh, I gotta go. My manager is asking if i’m at home. See you Riki, Bye Heeseung” You hurriedly pack your things, face red from embarrassment and the thought of you and Riki almost kissing.

“Hyung— I can explain—“ Riki walks towards him, trying to grab his hand “—Riki calm down, I wont tell” Heeseung chuckles, patting Riki’s bag “If you don’t know where my airpods are, then go walk her home. She’s not supposed to be out at this hour alone. I’ll take your stuff back to the dorm aight?”

“Oh gosh” you groaned, dragging your feet as you rethink what had happened “What should I do?” You pull your hair.

Just as you were about to turn to the corner you hear him call your name ‘No Riki! This is not the time!’ you panicked, but just before you could act as if you didn’t hear him, he taps you by the shoulder “Riki, just what the hell are you thinking chasing me right at this hour!?” You whisper-yell at him “I was just worried about you walking home at 3 am. Your company sucks for not getting you a driver”

“No I told them I could walk home” You chuckle, in Riki’s eyes you seemed so bothered. Noticing the way you dragged your feet and messy hair “Everything okay?” He asked, facing you

“Riki we’re doomed! Heeseung knows, and maybe dispatch is somewhere out there already taking pictures of us at this mome—”

He giggles “So what?” You gasp, mouth open. You seriously couldn’t believe this kid.

“So what?! Ugh, why do I even put up with you” facepalming as you groan

“Heeseung hyung said he wouldn’t tell, and I don’t care about dispatch, engenes know how close we are and does your fans. They’ll think this is a friendly gesture” Riki reassures you as he looked at the stars, finding peace within your presence.

“So don’t worry okay? Everything will be alright. And if they ever suspect anything, I’ll try to find a way to get us out of it” He stops by your doorstep “Well, this is your dorm, good night y/n—”

Without a thought running through your mind, you pecked Riki Nishimura. Immediately trying to unlock the door “Good night Riki” You smile, squealing once you closed it “I saw that” Ningning smirks. There goes your money.

It was the following week after your collaboration with Riki was released and so far everything was going great. Both your fans really liked the content you both made, appreciating your talents and especially loved your ‘friendship’

Riki was right, everything was going to be alright. No dispatch and no suspicions from the fans and both companies.

And ever since that night, you and Riki had decided to make it official. Both agreeing to keep it a secret for now until you were both ready.

Thankfully the fans recognized the playful personalities and cherished your friendship, making videos like “Y/n and Riki being chaotic in their (collab) behind” and “Riki and Y/n being the best friends everyone would want” Of course, your companies noticed the sudden increase of popularity for both groups and proposed an idea of having each other in shows, and other things that could possibly make you interact more. Almost immediately, you both were very supportive of the idea and agreed to do more shows.

You guys had an episode to go to the beach with the other Enhypen members. As you were filming the things that you were packing, Riki knocks on your door “Oh? Riki came~” you cooed, smiling at the sight of his head peaking through the door “Y/n! You’re packing more than necessary” He laughs, looking at the big pile of folded clothes.

After a few minutes, you decided to stop filming. Immediately throwing yourself into Riki’s arms “Are you excited?” you asked, rubbing circles on his back “not really— I mean yeah i kinda am but what if the other members—”

He pouts at the sound of you laughing “No ones gonna steal me Nishimura Riki. If that’s what you’re worried about” you squished his cheeks

“Now help me pick which swim suit I should wear”

“Okay :D” He gladly says, sitting patiently as you start gathering the options.

So far, filming with enhypen was fun, you got to play games in the pool, grill meat, answering mini interviews the other members held, you enjoyed it all.

Of course the trip wouldn’t be complete without you and Riki flirting with each other once in a while. Which caught both your fans attention, posting overly suspicious interactions between you and Riki. Leaving comments like “act surprised when they reveal that they’re dating” and “OKAY CAN WE TALK ABOUT: Y/n casually wrapping her arms around Riki’s neck while just staring at each other in today’s behind” all around twitter.

Jungwon being active on all social media platforms didn’t help either, resulting to him realizing that you and Riki were more than just friends. Soon enough the other members figure it out as well, silently sitting back and enjoying you both so oblivious towards the fact that everyone knew.

Meanwhile, you and Riki thought you were doing an excellent job at keeping it a secret. While resting on the same bed watching a movie, your manager barges in, shoving the phone into both your faces “Nishimura Riki, care to explain?”

Lainey, Cameron and Benny had gone to Maxine to visit Eddie for lunch. And well ... to make sure he didn't snap at Lushion, Steven or Esperanza. Eddie decided they would go to the Love Train diner. The older woman and man that owned were funny to Eddie and he loked them shockingly.

Eddie held the door for them then walked in. He showed them to a booth and sat beside Lainey in the booth.

"Aye, Hattie! You not gon feed ya boy? I'm starvin?" He yelled out with a playful smile.

His siblings were glad to see a smile on his face, it was strange though. An older woman came walking from the back of the diner smiling.

"Eddie? That you, baby?"

Getting up to hug her, Eddie started to introduce his family. "That's my baby sister Lainey and these are my brothers, Cameron and Benny, my other brother had some business to handle. Yall this is Ms. Hattie, she owns this place."

"Aht aht! I told you boy, this is not just her diner its mine too. This old bat couldn't do this by herself."

"And that's Floyd," Eddie laughed sitting back down.

The siblings' food had just come to the table, they dug in to their food talking amongst themselves. They talked about everything except for the turmoil their family was in, no one wanted to ruin the others appetite or mood.

Eddie's phone started to vibrate on the table, after his third time declining it Cameron spoke up.

"If you need to take that, go head. We don't mind."

"I mind," he huffed.

"Well who is it?" Benny asked.

"Mika's dumbass mama. Whatever it is, she can ask Steven or Lushion's nosey ass."

The siblings went back to eating and talking once his phone stopped ringing. It started to vibrate again, Lainey grabbed it snuff answered it.

"What, Esmeralda?"

"It's Esperanza and where is Eddie? I need to talk to Eddie."

"We're eating lunch, he doesn't wanna talk to you."

"Alaina, just give him the phone! This is important!"

"First, don't yell at me. Second, tell me what it is and I'll decide if it's important enough."

The two women went back and forth for about five more minutes. Lainey was calmly letting Esperanza have it, she didn't falter or pause and she honestly couldn't tell you what the other woman was saying.

"Can you please just tell Eddie that some guy called me and said that he's coming to kill me and Mika today? Please?"

Lainey took the phone from her ear to look at it then put it back up to her ear. "Why you ain't just say that? Who called you?"

"Some guy named Eric, I don't know."

"Stay your ass in your bedroom. We're coming." Lainey got off the phone then looked at her brothers. "We gotta go get them."

"No, hell no. I'll get my daughter but her ass it's staying there."

"Eric is trying to kill them. Do you really wanna deal with that, Eddie?" Lainey asked pushing him out of the booth.

He rolled his eyes asked groaned as he got up. "Knew I shouldn't have married her dumbass. If she could keep her fucking mouth closed."

The siblings left the diner, speeding towards Esperanza's house. Lainey rode with Eddie in his truck and Cameron drove behind them with Benny. Parking a block away, they ran to the house with their guns out and low. They watched Eddie's back while he unlocked the door. He rushed inside with Lainey right behind him, Cameron went to check the back door and Benny stays at the front looking slyly out of the windows.

As soon as Eddie opened the door Mika ran straight to him, hugging him around his waist, sobbing quietly. He tucked his gun seat to comfort her.

"Hey, it's alright. Stop that cryin, we're good. Everything's okay," he insisted softly.

"No, Daddy," she cried, "Mama said some man was gonna kill us! I'm scared."

After sending Mika to her room to hurriedly back a bag, Eddie glared at his ex-wife and spoke through gritted teeth, "Why would your dumbass tell her that? Huh? You must have shit for brains."

Esperanza stood in front of him and Lainey with her arms folded, "I want gonna lie to her, she needed to know that we're in danger, Edward cause you sure weren't."

"You're damn right I wasn't, she's nine you dumbass! She doesn't need to know that."

"Well dammit, Eddie, next time, cause you're gonna put us in danger again, leave me rules cause apparently I keep making the wrong decisions."

Eddie looked her up and down, "Your ass better hope your alive to see a next time. Pack your damn bag and lets go. Don't take all damn day either."

Lainey told Eddie to go help Mika and she would wait on Esperanza. She stood in the doorway with her gun in her hand watching Esperanza move around the room.

"Could you put that away?" Esperanza asked packing clothes into her bag.

"Girl, pack that damn bag and let's go. I'm not Eddie, I don't have to restrain myself from putting my foot up your ass, Princess."

"Ugh, no wonder you're related to him. You're just as rude as he is."

"Nah, I'm worse than he is. You got two minutes, hurry up or get left," Lainey said with a shrug.

"Do not rush me, I'm flustered and scared give me time."

"Girl," Lainey chuckled, "Hurry the hell up. Two minutes, I'm not playing. Try me and you'll have a bullet in your ass."

Cameron was watching out of the kitchen window when he saw one of Lainey and Zion's older brothers walk into the backyard. He kept quiet watching Eric's movements. He whistled lowly catching his siblings attention, they came walking to the kitchen.

"What's up," Benny asked.

"We got a guest. He came through the back."

Eddie nodded going back to the bedrooms to get Mike and Esperanza.

"Lainey, you and Eddie can get them to the truck. We'll keep watch for Eric and handle him."

Lainey nodded and started to back away. "Okay but dont kill him unless you really have to. I wanna do that."

"You got it, baby sis. Just make sure they stay quiet," Cam nodded continuing to look out the window.

Lainey met Eddie and the girls in the living room. Eddie was arguing quietly with Esperanza.

"What the hell is your problem? I told your ass let's go so move." He fussed quietly.

"No, I'm not leaving. We're gonna get shot if we go out there."

As soon as she said that Mika started to cry. Eddie shushed her as gingerly as he could. Lainey told Eddie to take Mika to the truck and she would bring Esperanza. Eddie didn't wait, he scooped his daughter up in his arms then ran out the door to his truck.

"Listen, I told you I'm not playing. Move your ass or get a bullet in it."

"No! I'm not going!"

Lainey punched her in her mouth to silence her effectively. It was either that or she hit her with the butt of the gun. She then pointed her gun in Esperanza's face to keep her from making any other noise. Esperanza held her bleeding mouth crying.

"You're gonna pick up that fucking bag and run to that fucking car. Do not stop until you are inside with the door closed, I'm gonna be right behind you," she explained quickly and quietly. "Do you understand?"

Esperanza nodded.

"Good let's go. He's parked a block away to your left. And if you stop, I will leave your ass right where you start, Mika's mother or not."

The two women ran for the door, just as their feet hit the driveway there was a loud boom from inside the house. Esperanza looked back at the noise but a glimpse of Lainey's gun kept her going. She jumped in the backseat of Eddie's truck, Lainey in the front and as soon as their doors closed Eddie pulled off as fast as he could.

Mika noticed her mother's lip and frowned, "Your bleeding, Mama. What happened?"

"Don't worry about it, babygirl," Eddie smiled looking in the rearview mirror. "That's what happens when adults dont listen to Auntie Lainey."
