I guess what still comes to my mind whenever I think about Veilguard is the question, "Given the circumstances, was there ever a way this game came out and was better than it is currently?"
And despite the mutterings we've heard and the interviews I've read and the different perspectives of former Bioware employees, I still don't know that I really have an answer to that question, but my instinct tells me no.
#this game was in production of some kind since 2015#they overhaled it to be single player “rpg” after fallen order did well and anthem flopped#the game director who ultimately got the game over the finish line didnt join until 2022#longtime writers fired during the development process#EA threw anywhere from $200 to $250 million at this game over 10 years and i dont think it made a difference#by many accounts the culture within bioware was not good#if this game was better i think it would have survived the 10 year gap between games#just like if gta6 is good its gonna sell a bajillion copies.#but it. was mid. they produced a completely adequate game. and that is no longer enough for the general gaming population#and would never have been enough for people who care about dragon age#dragon age#veilguard critical#really ea and bioware critical because this game seems to have been fundamentally mismanaged#with unclear goals that changed due to outside forces. when they never should have been paying attention to those in the first place#but alas. EA wanted their own fortnite. and they will never get it.
